thinking about how maomao's pain and poison thresholds are so high that she barely feels any injuries she's had, so much so that even when the gash in her leg opened (repeatedly and on multiple occasions, from her overstraining her body) she would only notice because of the blood, but when jinshi bites her (ref light novel volume four, p.219) she can feel it... that's a metaphor, to me
#the apothecary diaries#maomao#jinshi#i have terrible brainworms about them#natsu hyuuga... thank u for your efforts#maomao in particular is such an interesting character to me because god she is such a good unreliable narrator#she's convinced she hasn't been affected by the trauma of her past experiences but even so she functions primarily on one basis#and that is self preservation#she's not unaware of her own actions in that regard but she sees them purely as logical tendencies and not an ingrained coping mechanism#i have so much more to say but that will probably be it's own post#the light novels are simply excellence to me#i've yet to start the manga but i'm on volume five of the light novels at the moment. insane stuff i am obsessed

Imagine
Imagine you are offered an exciting, well-paid job with an up and coming spirits business, whose owner you happened to sympathize with at a work event. Imagine you really invest yourself in that job and you are so enthusiastic about it, that you even put your own business network to service. Imagine you start seeing the first results of your efforts.
Then imagine that the owner you happened to sympathize with (and who probably recruited you) has a teeny-tiny problem, the amplitude of which was absolutely impossible for you to grasp. He is also an actor and, as many actors who are actively involved in successful cinema/TV productions, he has a fandom. Some things may have been mentioned to you, such as the abusive behavior of 'some' fans - but you really had no idea and you were way too excited to make this new job opportunity work for you. You definitely didn't take any warnings too seriously: you know that series has some sort of cult-ish status and that actor is many ageing women's secret fantasy, all around the world. You probably even think it's definitely corny, but overall these ladies seem harmless enough - plus they seem to show up in droves and buy in bulk, everywhere he goes. You are way too focused on your job to notice any misconduct: you dismiss it with a laugh.
And then, someone, somewhere decides it is your turn. You have excitedly posted a snapshot of a rugby match you have been invited to by the owner of the up and coming spirits company, who happens to have an excellent relationship with the local, prestigious club and is a rugby fan himself. You are over the moon to be a part of an event that allows you to better discern the new type of customers the business hopes to attract, in the foreseeable future. You enjoy the wonderful camaraderie in the galleries: you had no idea about what rugby means to so many different people, wow!
You are, therefore, very surprised to find out some women already started to claim on the Internet you and your boss are an item. This is completely nuts: courtship seldom involves attending a rugby match, in Europe - that much you know. You begin to receive nasty, insinuating DMs on your Instagram page. You perhaps remember one of your boss's friends, a young disabled artist, has very recently been harassed by his fans and had to call the police, in order to make it stop. You decide the best thing you could do is to erase the rugby match pic: too late, it has already been screen capped, shared and discussed. This is how you also find out that some of those women think you have an agenda, that you plan to seduce your boss and that you are, at any rate, a lousy wannabe in the business world and a highly functioning alcoholic, to boot. The ones claiming so are either pretending to be experts or to have SOURCES, based on FACTS. This is beyond your understanding. You may even have a mild panic attack and you definitely feel all of this is: a) ridiculous; b) unfair and c) potentially dangerous.
Most of the women who called you out have no idea about what happens at a rugby match. They are that kind of older people who still think geishas are prostitutes, for example, because they lack proper education. They have no direct experience of the business world, let alone the spirits business world. No real facts and no logical arguments are ever presented to seriously discuss your efforts, but many smearing accusations are being written down, with full confidence. All they know is that they don't like you, because you somehow failed to comply with their own, twisted version of reality. In their books, your boss is either a closeted gay man or a lewd womanizer, with a dirty penchant for whores. This would normally make you grin, but today you're just not in that mood.
Today's your turn.

My Desired Daughter
Hi! The poll I made a few days ago ends today so "yandere platonic Bruce wayne" officially won. Enjoy reading!
TW: manipulation, platonic yandere, threat against parents, threat fulfilled. etc. English is not my native language and this is translated with google
==================================
The first time Bruce saw you he didn't give it much thought, you were just one of Tim's friends who knew how to play well with technology.
But it wasn't until he really needed your help with something since Tim couldn't. Bruce showed up dressed as Batman in your room when you were putting up a Flash poster in your room.
Well, in short, after you helped Batman with one of your "inventions" he started to feel attracted.
It wasn't a romantic attraction or an unhealthy obsession in that sense. No. Bruce Wayne wasn't that vulgar. His thing was more... deep.
He wanted to be YOUR father.
There was no logical reason behind it. He had seen orphans all his life, he had rescued children from misery and abuse, he had adopted more than one. But you weren't an orphan. You didn't need a father. You already had one.
And that only made him love her more.
You had a loving and functional father and mother despite being divorced.
He didn't want to seem like a pervert – he didn't need to be in the magazines again since you were still underage – so he was careful about getting close to you.
He would talk to you when you came to Wayne Manor to do homework with Tim and sometimes he would interrupt you to bring you some lemonade.
But that was only until you made new friends and you didn't talk to Tim as often anymore and you stopped going to Wayne Manor to do homework.
It's not that you two fought, it's just that you found other friends, but every now and then you would say hello to Tim when you passed them in the hallways at school (elementary, middle, high school, etc. Take your pick)
Bruce was left with a bad taste in his mouth and he investigated your mother and father to see who he could seduce – Bruce wouldn't miss the opportunity to be your stepfather.
He found out that your mother owned a coffee shop downtown, an hour away from the Wayne Industries building.
An hour? Yeah, definitely Bruce would drive an hour every morning to go get a coffee at your mother's coffee shop and slowly court her.
Well, he's Bruce Wayne. Handsome and charismatic, the crush of all the women in Gotham.
It wasn't more than 5 months until you and your mother went to live at the Wayne mansion since Bruce proposed to you.
Yeah, very fast, but your mother was really in love with him.
But despite that he could hardly talk to you, you were hardly at the mansion, you went out with friends or with your father who took you fishing, on unusual excursions.
You had a good father and that frustrated Bruce.
But he got fed up with that and decided to interfere directly.
You were in the limo with Bruce, Alfred was driving, he was coming from the Wayne Company and you were coming from school. You hadn't wanted to get too close to your new "stepfather" for three reasons: the first was that you didn't know him very well and you weren't good at socializing with adults, the second reason was that he was the father of your friend with whom you hardly spoke even if they now lived in the same house and third, you had problems with your mother.
Your mother could fall in love easily and in a strong way, the last time you tried to sympathize with your mother's former partner, she yelled at you saying that all you wanted was to steal "her man" from her.
She was a good mother and an excellent person, but she went crazy with the men she loved.
–"Your mother and I are going to dinner tonight. Would you like to join us?" – her voice broke the silence, deep, almost warm. But there was something in her tone, something calculating, that made you feel uncomfortable. You knew that her invitation was not simple courtesy.
You looked at him, frowning.
–“I don't feel like it, but I appreciate your offer, Mr. Wayne”– you answered evasively, still looking out the window. Bruce wasn't that easy to dismiss, you knew. He had learned over time that Bruce Wayne didn't just accept a "no." His face remained calm, but something in his posture changed, as if his patience was beginning to wear thin.
The limo took a curve and stopped in front of Wayne Manor. Alfred, the eternal butler, had stopped talking, and the air inside the car became increasingly dense.
When you finally arrived at Wayne Manor, Bruce didn't move away from you.
–“Hey Y/N.”
He followed you to the main room, his steps at your side like an echo of a presence that would never leave you.
You were about to enter, but something stopped him. Suddenly, in an unexpected turn, his hand caught your jaw, forcing you to look at him.
–"I don't want you to ignore me"– he murmured, with a danger you couldn't ignore. His grip was firm, just enough pressure to make your jaw hurt, but still not enough to make you scream. –"And I don't want you to be so... distant anymore. Do you understand me?"
His eyes remained fixed on yours, as if the entire world could crumble around you and the only thing that mattered was what he wanted from you.
Your breathing quickened as you tried to break free, but his strength kept you prisoner.
–"Talk about this to anyone and your father will end up behind bars for selling drugs."
–"My father doesn't sell drugs"– you whispered.
–"That's not what the evidence will say."– His tone was sharp, and the threat was clear. You wouldn't say anything else, not with the fear you felt.
Your mother was so infatuated that asking for help sounded stupid and your father, you didn't want Bruce to follow through on his threat.
But you couldn't, you couldn't stand this, you tried to run away one afternoon where your mother was with your father, she had gone to pick up one of her things that she had ordered on the internet and it arrived at her old address. It was not necessary to mention how upset she was about that.
You grabbed your backpack, you were going to go with your father, you were going to tell him everything.
But when you were about to cross the threshold they grabbed you by the backpack and pushed you to the floor, you fell on the carpet.
–"I thought you would be smart and not make me have to do this..." – he spoke with clenched teeth, he took the backpack from you and threw it in the corner and then grabbed you by the hair and dragged you.
–"ENOUGH! PLEASE STOP, IT HURTS!" – you cried.
He took you to the laundry room and pushed you inside before closing the door.
You didn't know how long you were there, you were really scared. Scared of what this psychopath would do to your parents.
========
You woke up when the door opened and you saw his shoes.
–"oh baby, come here, I didn't mean to be so aggressive with you... you just didn't leave me a choice"– he whispered before hugging you.
You wanted to push him, bite him or scratch him. But you were scared, really scared.
–"let's have breakfast together, it'll be a father and daughter breakfast"
He seemed happier than usual.
Bruce carried you to the living room where the television was on and left you on the couch to go get breakfast.
Then you saw it. The journalist was talking about how they were able to catch a couple with more than 20 kilograms of crack in their house.
That couple was your parents.
You cried until Bruce stood in front of you, with a smile that said he had already won everything.
You would be his daughter now, he had the cunning, the influence, and the desire to be your father.
And he had succeeded.
–"you can call me 'dad or father' from now on"

A core problem with radical feminism is that it does absolutely nothing to unpack the gender essentialism of the societal forces it's criticizing. "Man" and "woman" aren't just personal identities with serious societal consequences: they're a fundamental part of who everyone is, defining not only how others see them, but their eternal role in a conflict of interests that can unironically be summed up as "the battle between the sexes".
Under this model, "man" is the role of the oppressor, akin to the concept of the bourgeoisie. To be a man is to be part of the ruling class, to participate directly in the oppression of women, and to desire this participation and the rewards that it brings. Similarly, to be a woman is to be both the subject and object of men's exploitation, incapable of wielding any gendered violence in turn because, no matter what position a woman is in, she is always at a disadvantage against men.
These roles are more than simply functional, according to radical feminism - they are an innate part of the fabric of society, woven as deeply as classism, racism, transphobia, or ableism. And so, in the eyes of the radical feminist, to disagree with either the universal or inflexible nature of these roles is to disagree with feminism itself - because women can and will not be liberated until everyone is brought around to this way of thinking.
Now, I could go on for paragraphs upon paragraphs about the harm that this causes. The fact that this model is inherently rooted in white supremacist gender ideals, that it leans on and enforces stereotypes that most people agreed were sexist and out of date a whole 20 years ago, etc. And those are all conversations that need to be had.
But what I'm getting at today is: radical feminism is innately hostile to trans people.
You see this easily with the trans-exclusive brand. The especial animosity that TERFs have toward trans women is rooted in the idea that they possess Innate Male Privilege, and therefore, as earlier established, everything they say or do that fails to agree with Tervish ideals (including the claim that trans women are Actually Men) is a product of, and serves to reinforce, that privilege.
But you can also see it - and this is actually the reason why I started writing this post - in the way that TIRFs on this site lose their absolute shit at the concept of anti-transmasculinity and more specifically transandrophobia.
Remember what I said earlier about the radical feminist model: Gender A is oppressive, Gender B as oppressed. What this means is that, when you say:
"Actually, trans men are oppressed on the basis of gender!"
And what you mean is:
"Actually, trans men are also oppressed on the basis of gender!"
The way a TIRF is going to read it is, instead:
"Actually, it's trans men who are oppressed on the basis of gender!"
And then start calling you a "mask-off transmisogynist" while you're sitting there trying to figure out what the fuck you even did.
And if they don't read it that way, they assume that you must be saying that trans men aren't REALLY men, because as we previously established, the male gender is innately a position of privilege, and therefore anyone oppressed on the basis of gender must be a woman.
Of course, the kind of logic being applied here is like someone saying that since cars drive straight down a road, it's impossible to be T-boned: much like this hypothetical scenario, it displays a total failure to understand the function of intersections.
Depending on the person, you might even see this logic extended even further. An excellent example is the claim that "masculinity is universally rewarded, femininity is universally punished." Which, yanno, is a buck fucking wild thing to say when trans men and butch SIF people in general are often targets of corrective rape, but go off I guess?
And then of course you get the variant that "trans women, by which I mean women born with Wolffian anatomy, are the most oppressed people of all and everyone else, including everyone born with Mullerian anatomy, is contributing to their oppression." You pretty much only see this in the most hateful extremist groups, and this logic is the primary reason why you see odd behaviors like trans men being referred to as "theyfabs" - because in the mind of this kind of weirdo, every Mullerian trans person is a member of the same oppressor "class".
But I would caution people against hyperfocusing on that specific nonsense. The thing is, the entire radfem mindset is harmful and exclusionary no matter who is peddling it or how it's applied - which means the main priority is that you be able to recognize these arguments as the red flags they are. Not only for baseless hatred toward trans women or men, but for a model of feminism that is fundamentally exclusionary toward anyone that doesn't fit a vary narrow set of standards for who is allowed to call themselves oppressed.

I would DIE to see you write more stuff for Ian. He's definitely one of my favorites.
A/n: I CAN GIVE YOU THAT! If you want more please let me know

Chaos and Cooing that is what your life now consisted off.
The night is quiet—eerily so, considering that in this house, quiet is as rare as a perfectly functioning dinosaur park. Ian Malcolm leans back against the couch, his infamous black shirt slightly unbuttoned, sleeves rolled up as he cradles a chubby, giggling baby in his arms.
“Ah, well, now this is unexpected,” he murmurs, bouncing the baby on his knee, who responds with a delighted shriek and a kick of pudgy legs. “The real chaos theory at work—not in the form of dinosaurs, no, but in the genetic masterpiece that is my son.” He waggles his eyebrows. “Clearly, he takes after me.”
Across the room, you, his very tired but still stunning wife, groan from where you’re curled up in the armchair. One hand grips a cup of lukewarm coffee, the other rubs circles into your temple. “Ian, for the last time, he’s giggling because you keep making ridiculous faces at him, not because he understands chaos theory.”
“Ah, ah, but that’s where you’re wrong,” Ian counters, pressing a noisy kiss to the baby’s round cheek. The baby gurgles in response, drool dripping onto Ian’s wrist, but he doesn’t seem to mind. “You see, my dear, chaos theory states that small changes in initial conditions lead to vastly different outcomes—case in point, had we slept last night, we wouldn’t be in this state of delirium. But! Because our son, this delightful little agent of chaos, decided sleep was, ah, unnecessary, here we are.” He gestures vaguely to your exhausted form and his own slightly disheveled one.
Your eyes narrow as you sip your coffee. “Are you seriously trying to lecture me on chaos theory using our son’s sleep schedule as proof?”
“I lecture because I love,” Ian replies smoothly, shifting the baby in his arms as he gazes down at him with something absurdly soft in his dark eyes. “And because I haven’t slept in three nights, and my brain has officially left the metaphorical building.”
You sigh, watching as Ian continues his one-man performance, making exaggerated faces that send your son into another round of belly laughs. The sound is so sweet, so impossibly joyful, that despite your exhaustion, you feel your heart melt.
For all his dramatics, Ian is an incredible father—dotingly attentive, full of boundless energy (somehow), and completely enamored with the little miracle you both created. It’s a sight you never tire of: your eccentric, brilliant, sometimes infuriating husband wrapped around the tiny, chubby fingers of your son.
The baby coos, reaching up to grab a fistful of Ian’s dark curls, and Ian winces but lets him. “Ah, yes, son, excellent grip already proving Darwin’s theory of natural selection. If you can cling to my hair with such tenacity, surely you will thrive in this chaotic world.”
“Or he’s just a baby, Ian.”
“Ah, ah, but is he just a baby?” Ian lifts a dramatic finger. “Or is he the next great scientist, the next disruptor of the status quo, a bringer of groundbreaking, world-altering change?”
The baby sneezes.
Ian nods solemnly. “I rest my case.”
You chuckle despite yourself, shaking your head as you set your coffee down and push yourself up from the chair. Walking over, you press a kiss to your son’s soft, round cheek before meeting Ian’s gaze. “You know, for all your rambling, you’re really just a big sap.”
Ian gasps, feigning offense. “Me? A sap? I’ll have you know, darling, I am a man of science, a man of logic, of reason.” He pauses, looking down at the baby, who is now sleepily sucking on his fist. Ian’s voice softens as he gently rocks him. “But… if loving my son so much that it defies logic makes me a sap, well… I suppose I can live with that.”
Your heart clenches, and you lean against him, resting your head on his shoulder. “Well, at least one of us is still functional,” you murmur, feeling your own exhaustion creep back in.
Ian chuckles, pressing a kiss to your temple. “Oh, my love, that implies I was ever functional to begin with.”
A scoff left your lips yet a smile remained and with that, the baby sighs, nestling against his father’s chest, and finally...finally...falls asleep.
Chaos has, at last, taken mercy on you.
For now.
As your eyes drifted closed, Ian's fingers running through your hair gently.

You wouldn't happen to have an extensive layout dissection of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant? Or even a list of all notable and obscure sections of the Jedi Temple? OR or even labelled areas that are public and reserved for only temple residents. Both from canon and legends, please and thank you!!!
The best I managed to find comes from Star Wars Complete Locations - you may check out the whole archived version here. The “zoom in” option is pretty good for reading details. Below the pages (I suppose the best is to open them in new tab for better reading):
As for the list of locations, I recommend wookiepedia's list. Plenty of data, both for Legends and New Canon.
Additional sources worth to check out:
Jedi Temple Locations & Jedi Temple History - both published as official material on star wars.com in regard to prequels and New Canon sources. Pictures and references to various places inside Temple.
Star Wars.com's The Clone Wars episode guide + videoclips from the series, like
A) Jedi Archives Tour (the entrance to one of the most restricted areas of the temple: The Holocron Vault).
B) Layout of Jedi Temple Library (source)

C) Jedi Temple funeral room + environment illustration by Tara Rueping (source)

Old Data Bank for Jedi Temple
HoloNews mentioning "a mob of 20 university students attempted to infiltrate the Jedi Temple" and "managing to get as far as the Second Atrium Lobby"
Star Wars Battlefront (2) game wiki provides some map and location description
and if you have time (and patience) you can watch gameplay from 501st Legion's mission in Jedi Temple for reference, like this one
youtube
The wookiepedia's articles should give enough good idea of the rooms, their location and functions, but I'm adding a few source pages:
STAR WARS: FACT FILES #36 provides a lot informations what and where was inside the Temple and some general data about visitors, security, Grand Balcony, Grand Corridor & Towers. Not all is super specific, but worth checking out for sure.

The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia mentions this:

and for Jedi Temple entry:

As for the named locations that are public or reserved for only temple residents, there is definitely a division like that, however I'm not sure if this issue was very well explained. The source gives us some ideas, like for example, Jedi Archives have data accessible only for Jedi with rank of Master or higher (thus most likely separated areas to study). At the same time, Fact Files #25 says that Jedi Archives offers an "excellent resources to researchers, including star-map hologram consoles", but also an access to entire scientific and historical knowledge of the Republic
so non-Jedi were allowed to use Jedi Library/Archives for their own research and work-related needs. We also must remember that the Jedi Order had various scientific branches, including archaeology, exploring unknown regions, and medicine, so logically thinking Jedi worked with other, non-Jedi specialists of many fields.
We also know from various sources, that politicians and important guests were invited for various occasions. We could see in Republic comics series that Bail Organa, Mon Mothma and senator Ask Aak were allowed to listen to Jedi reporting before High Council about his last battle
or attending Jedi Funeral like Duchess Satine and Padme Amidala did for the (fake) Obi-Wan's one or just visiting as a friend/comrade-in-arm
I would need to make more research about this issue as there is plenty tie-in material to Jedi Temple on Coruscant that would take a lot time to study, but at this moment, I think the best is assume how far a non-Jedi may walk into Temple will depend greatly who is that person and what is nature of their business with Jedi.
At the same time, Purge: Seconds to Die has this line "Clone Troopers? This deep in the Temple? Not permitted."
The Jedi was in Archives herself, so it is worth to take into account that clones could have more limited access to Temple than the average guest before war did. At the same time, clone troopers could make a report before Yoda and Mace Windu/High Council, as was presented by Star Wars Tales (Honor Bound):
so it is not like they were outright forbidden to enter the temple either.
Hope it will help!
#star wars#jedi temple#jedi culture#my replies#I'm pretty sure Star Wars Miniatures too had some maps for playing inside Jedi Temple#but sadly couldn't get any good images

Skills You Should Know For The Professional (White-Collar) Workforce
I have primarily only worked in the white collar workforce post-college (I worked as a parts clerk in a factory pre-college but it was for my mom ), so I can only speak to that side of the workforce, but here are some skills that I recommend knowing to go into the workforce:
How to draft a professional email
How to logically structure an argument, both on the overall level (across multiple sections/slides/paragraphs) and on a sentence level
How to draft a grammatically correct sentence (including understanding how to identify common grammatical errors)
How to do basic formatting in MS PowerPoint (e.g., resize, align, find and update Slide Master)
How to do basic functions in MS Excel (e.g., create a formula, create conditional formatting, create a table)
How to do basic formatting in MS Word (e.g., update paragraph spacing, update headers and footers, update table formatting)
How to speak, present ideas, and engage with others in small group settings
How to speak, present ideas, and answer questions in larger group settings

Best of Time Travel AU
There are A LOT of time travel fix-it fics, but this isn't my favourite trope. That said, this post might be the only part of the recommendations for this section of Naruto fanfiction.
Uzumaki Revival by Lerya @lerya-fanfic They had been trapped in the ruins of Uzushio for who knows how long, the hastily erected barrier on the point of breaking, which would mean their deaths at the hand of Kaguya, when the Bijuu come with a solution. A solution that requires them to make the ultimate sacrifice, to give them a chance to change it all. - Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Kakashi and Obito were reborn as a part of the Uzumaki clan to fix past mistakes. This is my favourite fic, where Naruto is a functioning Kage. Everything is logical in this fanfic. Sakura is a strong and capable woman; everyone in our small group acknowledges how competent as a leader Naruto is. KakaObi and Sns are established relationships; interactions between Sasuke and Naruto are too precious. NaruSasu/SasuNaru | Time Travel AU | Fix it | KakaObi | Kage Naruto | Uzushiogakure (81,338)
French Kissing, the End of the World, and Other Impossible Ordeals by Tsume_Yuki This is it, centuries of excellent genetics, of carefully selected marriages to maximise the potential of future generations and it’s going to be Sasuke who introduces idiocy to the Uchiha bloodline. The ancestors must be rolling in their graves. In which Sasuke is smitten, Naruto is a badass, and timetravel happens. - This fic saved me from depression quite a few times. You could just read it purely for serotonin production. I just can't get over how smitten Sasuke is. They save the world together and live happily ever after. I believe this is the best-written fem Naruto I ever saw. SasuNaru | Fem Naruto | Time Travel AU | Fix it | Smitten Sasuke | Smart Naruto | BAMF Naruto | Protective Sasuke (16,194)
Two Lifetimes by KinomiAkai @kinomiakai With every passing day, it's becoming clearer and clearer that Sasuke is dead. So what else would Naruto do, if he got the chance to try all over again? - They got another chance to fix everything. Sns is not established YET, but our boys have a happy ending. SasuNaru/NaruSasu | Time Travel AU | Fix it | Eventual romance | Happy ending (11,166)

More Star Trek/Edward Scissorhands crossover thoughts to go along with this post I made:
Edward understands, in concept, what a family is but he doesn't know any details about how one is supposed to function or be set up so he just assumes that the crew must be a family and forms relationships with them based off that fact.
Like, for instance, he decides that, since they're the primary authority figures on the ship that Kirk and Spock are his parents now. No it doesn't have anything to do with shipping he doesn't even know what that is, he's just decided that this is the most logical option (Spock's encouraged him to be logical so he's trying his best) and they've inadvertently encouraged this because they interact with him a lot when he first comes on board so he gets Attached. And they're the ones who take care of the crew, right? So, parents.
(this got long, so the rest under the cut)
What's honestly funnier is that Spock catches onto this faster than Kirk does (he's more used to keeping an eye out for weird human behavior and trying to figure it out) and he reacts accordingly. Which means he's now doing research on human child development in his spare time so that he can better understand what's happening and be helpful. He compares Edward's behavior to the research he does on typical human children and notes the differences he finds, what skills Edward seems to be lacking or excelling in. He also tries to figure out Edward's mental age but can't pin it down exactly, so he just notes when Edward seems to display behavior typical of a younger child or an older one. (He has graphs of all this stuff in his room for sure.)
What this, practically, translates to in his interactions with Edward is that he's much more verbally affirming and reassuring with Edward and lets Edward be much more physically affectionate with him. Which the crew notices and is... fascinated by. Especially Bones and Kirk, of course, because this is great, this is prime mocking Spock material and they absolutely do until they finally have a meeting about it in sickbay (Bones and Kirk are calling it an intervention).
So Spock rolls his eyes humors them and explains the research he's been doing on human children and what they need to thrive which leaves Bones and Kirk a little slack-jawed and then Spock whips it around on Kirk like, "Captain I would have expected you to also be taking this approach, since Edward has accepted you as his other primary caregiver." "...He's done what?" "Yes, isn't it obvious? He has intuitively grasped the chain of command on board the ship and put us into the role of parental figures." *Kirk gaping at him, Bones wheezing with laughter in the background* "Haven't you noticed, captain, that when Edward needs something he typically seeks one of us out? If we are not available-" "He comes in here looking for me or nurse Chapel." "Precisely, doctor. So, as you can both see, I am merely taking an interest in Edward's wellbeing for both his own sake and development and to continue to ensure the smooth running of the ship." "Explain that last part, Mr. Spock," Kirk requests after picking his jaw up off the floor. "Certainly captain; human children who are neglected or abused tend to develop problems that affect not only their development, but also their households and relationships with others. Therefore, Edward's wellbeing is connected to that of the ship." "Quite logical, Mr. Spock." "Thank you, captain."
After this, Kirk has a mild crisis because apparently on top of being the captain of a starship he is now also a parent. But he accepts it pretty quickly and proceeds to start taking it waaaaay too seriously and trying to overcompensate for the time he didn't realize he was Edward's dad now. I'm not 100% sure how that translates but I feel in my heart that it's right since Kirk is the most over-dramatic man in Starfleet.
Perhaps that's when the Pet Store Incident happens. Basically Edward somehow acquires a tribble and when Kirk finds out he is like absolutely not we are yeeting that thing off the ship immediately- except this absolutely devastates Edward so now Kirk has to find a way to make it up to him and he can't just like, spend extra time with the kid, no, he's going to take Edward to an intergalactic pet store, because there is no possible way that could go wrong, right?
So, despite warnings from both Spock and Bones, Kirk takes Edward down to this space petshop and honestly it might have been fine. Edward's so enamored with all the little critters he's not even worried about picking one. They could have managed to leave without even getting a pet if Kirk hadn't decided to make small talk with the shopkeeper, who lets it slip that, "Oh yeah, if we don't manage to find homes for them before they grow up we just ship them off to the butcher. Yeah, some of these are delicacies, people pay good money for 'em-" and Kirk just starts sweating and slowly looks up at Edward praying he hasn't heard that-
And Edward's standing there, covered in small animals, with the most horrified expression Kirk has ever seen on his face and oh he is cooked-
Kirk walks over to him hoping he can maybe, somehow, mitigate this, convince Edward the shopkeeper was joking, anything, but the first thing Edward says is, "We have to save them." and Kirk just sighs and accepts his fate. "Okay, Edward, but this has to be your mission then. You have to find them all good homes in a reasonable amount of time. I'm not spending the next six months on a ship infested with small alien creatures, we'll get complaints."
And Edward just beams at him and Kirk is so done but how can he even be upset, he walked right into this. So he lets Edward use his communicator to contact the ship and he was supposed to just get routed through to Spock but Uhura helpfully turns the com on speaker so the entire bridge can hear. Kirk told Edward to tell them to convert a cargo bay into a zoo holding room for all the animals. Edward happily relays this and why they're doing it. The bridge crew is in stitches. Kirk will never hear the end of this.
Spock relays the situation to Scotty, who complains about having to convert one of the cargo bays and grumbles, "Has the captain gone mad?" to which Spock replies, "I doubt it, Mr. Scott, especially seeing as it was not the captain's idea." "Well then who's was it then?" "Edward's, after he realized that the animals would be killed if they were not rescued." ".... Well why didn't you start with that then?! That's a different matter entirely!"
The animals are all safely beamed on board the ship once enclosures are made for them. The ship's expert on alien animals is brought in to help and oh my goodness is she having the time of her life getting to observe and study all these critters. The crew helps Edward find homes for all the critters (he spends a lot of time making calls to people with Uhura) where they will not be eaten.
Edward does keep one, it's a little catlike creature that eventually grows wings. When it's little he carries it in his pocket and when it's older it drapes itself over his shoulders. No one knows what species it is or what planet it's from (it's probably covered in a future episode) but it's not a woman disguised as a cat like the other alien cats in this show. It loves Edward unconditionally and if anyone is ever mean to him while his cat is around she BITES. She's very mischievous, but usually only causes a moderate amount of trouble.
Alright, I'll stop there, I hope you enjoyed reading this silliness. xD
#star trek#edward scissorhands#crossover#silliness#james t kirk#spock#bones mccoy#montgomery scott#I need to stop being anxious about this crossover nothing I'll ever come up with#is as unhinged as what star trek itself has canonically done#OR as wild as what's already out in the fandom#writing#writers#fanfic

I do computer work but it's not very hard and kind of boring. How do I get to do hard computer work? Do I have to go to grad school?
hi i tend to miss these because of slipshod ublock custom filters im too birdbrained to fix.
i worked for a large american technology company which sold business machines internationally for close to a decade until laid off in successful accounting fraud scheme a few years ago. started as developer, erm, pardon me, i started as
junior developer
which is a role similar to routinely-executed court jester and human meatwave conscript meant to soak up enemy bullets to cause exhaustion of enemy bullet supply and finally guy that comes in big gross truck with a pump and a tank and a big hose used to suck the shit+piss out of portable toilet/malfunctioning sewer etc. this is for when you are 20 years old or so and they hit you with this work to calm your ass down a bit. my case was cloud bullshit on ancient rickety php stack. 5% keystrokes/clicks are php, 95% remainder is jira and other members of the axis of evil. LOT of dick sucking and butt fucking. Going into men's bathroom and making eye contact with cubicle neighbor before entering stall and fearlessly making disgusting noises. microwaving fish lunch thrice daily. you get the idea. meager paycheck but six figures takehome technically
next is staff dev, wait, god damn fucking tumblr, you can't adjust fonts mid-paragraph, and Big Text is just another type of font, in case you wanted Big Specific font. fucking fuck hold on. next step is
staff developer
no effective change besides greatly increased workload (click those motherfucking jira buttons!! suffer coworker's asinine bad-faith code review comments that HE AND HE ALONE must manually accept your responses to, on HIS time, before you are allowed to click the jira buttons that start the human meat sausage factory to get your 20 line maximum change into an RC and then release and then push candidate and then prod push!! pay raise one thousand dollars annually (lol). Emails. Now you deal with project manager too. speculate as to what sorts of grievous head injuries that man must suffer daily to describe his logic. his job is like the guy from office space that brings documents from one desk to another but he randomly reorders the words on the page in-flight. make plausibly-deniable wife fucking jokes about his wife in earshot. you're almost at the top of the suffering function. next is, no fucking cute font this time, senior developer, sounds cool right, lol, lmao, "senior" "developer" is like "tallest" "midgit".
no pay increase no workload increase but now manager emails you about extremely, extremely personal issues he's facing and also makes his most difficult problems from his boss your problems. one week will pass and then they will hit you with the "we're considering you for a team lead position". answer:
NO
answer no as this is the prescribed path, you take that role, you are maxxed out in workload, you are dealing with forty employee's worth of bullshit, another one thousand dollarinos a year raise, employer has solved efficiency problem with your sanity and burnout as variables. you're supposed to quit or kill yourself within seconds of hitting 30 y/o. don't fall for tricks. say "NO" in a creative way such as "i have tabulated some data and made it into excel pie chart quantifying diff. departments work output and am considering sending it to whoever Dave is, the guy that is one or two or three report levels over your boss' head, you know, his boss' boss' boss or whatever. or say "you are harassing me sexually, racistly" that kind of shit. make threat clearly.
was worth mentioning before, throughout all of this make as many friends and as much of a splash for yourself as possible as its time to trade on that goodwill, tell your boss you want an open relationship and you're going to fuck and suck other managers, and then find the good one with the good team of old fucking geriatric guys who could never be fooled into working more than a reasonable amount daily and also can kill people with their minds since they have been sitting on the bleeding edge of computing since 1969. their boss will usually be, suspiciously, one report rank higher than everyone else. e.g. their boss has a whole other boss + his reports under him. usually small team. go to their boss, say, hi, look at me, look at my beautiful plumage and captivating mating dance, please hire me, pleassseee. his team will say no, they will say things like "I don't know about that kiddo", "That guy seems like a candy-ass", they will read your papers and look at you in the eyes and say it is not compelling, the boss will kind of hire you anyway. if he doesn't you're fucked. if he does you're now a
STAFF ENGINEER
for fifteen minutes and then
ADVISORY/SENIOR/SPECIAL ENGINEER
and the suffering is over. no code minimal jira + squad of gremlin zerglings under your boss whom you can rank-pull and delegate bullshit to, they will be mostly suckers, take advantage of this. 80% of keystrokes/clicks will be in production of beautiful wonderful lovely .docx and .xlsx's, what a godsend, only in an emergency are you allowed to fuck with your zergling's code, usually in a cool way with bullshit procedure removed.
i worked on high performance computing shit. "what the fuck do you mean 2PB or so in and out a day on flash memory", "what the fuck do you mean special infiniband intel MPI library on CD-R stored in Craig's filing cabinet???". Meetings with company people: webcams off, responses optional, snideness allowed. Meetings with client: you must have your dress shirt starched and white glove the shit out of those motherfuckers. timezones = skill issue. i don't care where germany is, i don't give a shit, wake up at 3am for a 20m meeting i take on the toilet or while eating a boiled lobster complete with cracker + lobster bib. customers countable on one hand, invoices to customers not countable with 32 bits. no fucking mistakes ever allowed except for like whitepaper drafts, you cannot fuck the pumpkin on this one, your actual job relies on your ability to hit a button and suck down a week's worth of compute and millions of dollars, boiling swimming pool's worth of TDP, one mistake that leads result data to being able to be characterized as flawed and your balls are getting ripped off. Quarterly IRL meetings = normiepilled normiemaxxing. Dress sharp. leave at 5pm on the dot, go to bar with Old Fucker coworkers, drink wrecklessly with them, have a blast, let them give you a tour of a lab you are absolutely 100% not allowed to be inside, buildings that have posted weight limits per sq. ft. exceeding 250lbs, such a blast. every paycheck a FORTUNE every dinner a banquet every meeting an email every keystroke life or death. you get to meet /lib/doug mofos too one of whom i wrote a very poor kind of poem thing about. thats about it. hope this helps

I’m playing Silent Hill 2 and while reading the walkthrough, I found a very interesting explanation to one of the puzzles, involving certain symbology.
The author of the article has no affiliation with astrology and so they identified the symbols as Alchemical, which they are, but what they weren’t aware of is their spiritual significance. As an Astrologer, I took notice of it immediately and was intrigued, because the explanation gives excellent background for possible planetary remediation linked to natural metals associated with planets.
I’m gonna skip vitriol and philosopher’s stone and move right to the planets.
The first one on the list is Saturn, being associated with lead. That is an intriguing piece of information, giving the fact that lead is something people are trying to get rid of and purify themselves from in their lives for the sake of health, as well as it’s the material used to produce bullets or chains, both associated with death or imprisonment. It’s a heavy material, associated with all those difficult karmic things like bondage or disease. On the plus side, it is also used for protection from danger, such as radiation shielding or excessive sound isolation. If you’re struggling with ego and need to humble yourself, or feel like you need to be isolated from external stimuli, this metal may be excellent for spiritual purposes.
The second symbol on the list is Jupiter, associated with tin. That is such a curious association, given that tin is put on cans to protect our food from corroded metal, and Jupiter rules protection and nourishment. The metal was used historically for variety of purposes, and if you research it you will see how wide its usefulness spreads. In appropriate form and small quantities, it’s even safe to ingest, again giving it that Jupiter connotation.
The next symbol is Mars, linked with iron. Iron is the cheapest, most basic but also the most universal metal for tool production, and fits perfectly with Mars’ simple logical tool usage. It’s almost primitive, yet so functional and practical, as our ancestors knew.
I’m going to lump the Sun and the Moon together, because it is a widely known fact of astrology that as the king and the queen they both rule the most precious metals, gold and silver respectively.
Venus’ ties to copper are also well known in spiritual circles, which is why copper is used in high quality cooking apparel but also as a healing metal, known for balancing the body as per Venus’ physical school of healing.
Mercury, which after all has a metal named after itself, the only liquid metal on the list, or at least commonly used in liquid form. That association further exemplifies Mercury’s ties to healing and the caduceus symbol, as Mercury is the metal used in traditional old style thermometers. Mercury, however, is dangerous to approach directly and toxic to the touch without specialized protection. Mercury is also commonly used in electricity as a conductor, and interestingly enough, in gold extraction, which is mythologically accurate, Mercury being the envoy of the Sun, the king himself. People with very strong Mercuries may like to work in professions requiring contact with wires or chemicals.

Into to thosetransformersyousawinthebackgroundofTF:ONE pt.2 Red Alert:
Red Alert in TF: One Right: Red Alert from the Generation 1 cartoon
Original Toy Tech Spec: "Nothing escapes his notice, no matter how small. When his sensors are activated, thinks trouble is coming. Edgy... unpopular with comrades, but appreciated. Can trigger alarms in other Autobots. Excellent sensory perception. Fast in vehicular mode. Carries 25 mile range rocket launcher and particle beam rifle. Prone to rash judgements which can lead to injury to himself and comrades".
Quote: "Caution can never be overused".
The following information is from "Transformers Universe"
Function: "Security Director"
Profile: "Paranoia is the character trait that makes Red Alert as good as he is at his job. Nothing escapes his notice- whiff of smoke, a whisper of crackling electricity, a faint scent of fuel exhaust. Anything, no matter how small, that triggers his sensory circuitry directs his thoughts immediately to the expectation of trouble. Most of his comrades find his edgy, driven nature an unwelcome presence among their ranks, but they all appreciate his dedication to his duty. "He may have a few wires crossed in his logic center," says Inferno, "but at least his optical sensors are looking straight ahead"'.

Hey there, random question. Does Solas feel emotions more intensely or feel will of objects more strongly due to his composure? Does this also affect his relationship with his own feelings? Does he tamper them down or does he allow himself to work through them? If he does not allow himself the grace to unpack them due to his trauma and past, how is this detrimental to his idea of self? How does this feed into his means to an end?
Idk if he feels emotions more strongly than mortals, but he certainly feels strong emotions and, as a once purely emotional being, he processes them differently. Bellara tells us the ancient elves were freer with their emotions which is incredibly logical - emotion is what the firstborn elves’ nature was, and it makes sense that that would translate into their new reality/society.
I genuinely think the root of most of his problems is that he doesn’t deal with his relationship with emotions. He wants to be this creature of logic, but that’s more of a perversion of his nature than even the corruption of wisdom -> pride. Emotions hurt, and Solas excels at nothing better than trying to protect himself from pain. This is a man who buried his most painful memories, and their associated emotions, and then tried to erase them. He tried to make a matryoshka doll to remove these feelings. It’s not even making the internal external - it’s trying to forcibly excise those emotions/memories.
Solas’ relationship with emotions is multi-faceted, and include both metaphysical and incredibly human reasons:
For the metaphysical - he’s not a spirit anymore and hasn’t been for >10,000 years. He isn’t a single emotion, be that pride or wisdom. But he wants to be. He’s never been able to get over the trauma of such a massive shift in his very nature/being. ‘I prefer to be known as Wisdom,’ he tells emmlich. Babe you haven’t been that for a long ass time. HOWEVER, he’s also not fully ‘human.’ There’s a good theory out there that bad endings Solas in essence fully corrupts into a Pride demon. I buy it, given how extreme his snap from regular Solas to angry Solas is. His mind doesn’t work the same way mortals’ do. He’s still going to be driven by emotion moreso than logic or intellect.
I don’t think this is inevitable for spirits who enter the waking world. I think it’s the result of the firstborn elves not knowing how to deal with this dramatic change/not receiving good guidance. They still likely tried to function within the parameters of emotion they were familiar with. So for example ‘war trauma’ isn’t attributed to the psychological, which it is, it’s attributed to a corruption or twist of their nature. To be clear, I think they do get corrupted bc again, they’re not mortals, but that’s not the only thing that’s going on.
Which brings us to the ‘human’ aspect - emotions are a detrimental thing to have when you’re at war, and Solas has been at war since he took a body; be that Titan, violent or intrigue civil wars, Rebellion, or Veilfall. Emotions cloud the ‘necessary’ ruthlessness of winning a war and complicate decision making that will cost lives. They make the inherent trauma of war harder to bear. Divorced from emotion, making calls or dealing with the day-to-day feels easier (emphasis on feels - numbing yourself is not an effective way of dealing with psychological trauma, but it is an extremely common ‘human’ reaction). ‘Can’t have PTSD if you pretend the T doesn’t exist’ or something smh.
Where he can’t divorce himself from emotion, he redirects the emotions he can’t shake (bc no one can) into the cause. It is ‘ends justify the means.’ What he can’t numb himself to he justifies as being ‘for the People’: i.e., he substitutes or redirects ‘guilt’ into ‘purpose.’
#I’m not very good at talking in the abstract but I Tried#also the extreme snap from regular solas to bad ending solas feels like bad writing lol but I work with what I have#headcanons (some have wisdom for those willing to listen.)#spirit
