had the consult for my gallbladder surgery. the doctor told me i need to "lose 10 - 15 pounds" before they'll perform the surgery on me, and that I would need to wait 2 - 3 months before they would schedule it. i told her i have PCOS which makes it difficult to lose weight. she told me that does happen, and offered to refer me to a bariatric surgeon who is used to bigger bodies who could perform the gallbladder removal instead. i asked her for the referral to them instead
i was very angry at her for this, as 10 - 15 pounds do not make any difference when you are 300 lbs. my weight fluctuates between 280 - 340 lbs depending greatly on what i've eaten, how much i exercise, and so on. this will also vary greatly depending on if the stone is blocking my gallbladder completely or partially- if it's fully blocking the neck of my gallbladder, i cannot get enough digestive juices into my stomach to properly digest my food, so i will begin violently vomiting to get the undigested food out, and to get bile flowing into my stomach again. i begin to lose tons of weight when this happens, and i put it back on during the periods where i can get enough bile in my stomach to properly digest my food.
i can't digest my food properly. eating "healthier" will not change this- i can't digest food at all, period. healthy or unhealthy, i can't digest anything, because a good half of my digestive juices are completely missing from my guts. there is a functional issue with the way my guts work, of course i will lose weight drastically and put it back on at times. of course the issues will be episodic.
both her and the student that was working with me kept assuming that i said that my pain got worse after "high fat" meals. both of them put this in my mouth-
the student did it first. she asked when the pain gets worse and i said sporadically, but sometimes after i eat. she literally asked me "so you said it gets worse after fatty meals, right?"
i got frustrated and said "no, it's really random." i didn't get to tell her that raw leafy vegetables and lightly steamed or cooked vegetables make me vomit. broccoli and cauliflower that aren't heavily cooked, salads, raw vegetables, lightly cooked carrots, applesauce and apples in general are all problem foods.
the doctor then came in and said "it gets worse after high fat meals, right? you said that" and i went, again, "no it just kinda happens."
i don't even eat a high fat diet. i cook at home now for every meal now that i have all the tools i need to do so. i make rice, fish, pasta, and certain vegetables that i can digest like potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, mushrooms, and so on. i eat bread, seeds, nuts, dried fruits, and drink oatmilk. i don't eat land meats, eggs, or dairy. i don't have any of those things. i do eat french fries and fish sticks, but not for every single meal. i don't eat chips because they're too salty and irritate my stomach. i don't eat candy or sweets unless the food bank delivers them to me. i don't eat much sugar other than pancakes and certain fruits
she wouldn't listen to me and went "well when you eat fatty meals, your gallbladder has to contract more and it can cause you a lot of pain." you would not believe how many times she came back to "you need to eat a lower fat diet." "the pain gets worse after you eat a high fat meal, so eat lower fat meals and your pain will go down." "just eat a lower fat diet and it'll help."
i just kind of sighed. there were tears in my eyes. i felt defeated. they made a bunch of assumptions just because i was sitting there, being fat. i was wearing long sleeves due to it being cold and they didn't get to see that i have a lot of muscle in my body mass. quite a lot. i wanted to tell them that i'm on testosterone and physically active when and where possible, and that i frequently lift heavy objects and move, but i never got a chance. i wanted to tell them my BMI isn't what they think it is, but i just didn't bother to try
i despise that people assume that fat people are fat because they eat "unhealthy" foods. i ate high fat foods for a few months while i was homeless because i didn't have the resources to cook every single meal. it affected my liver, i'm dealing with some fatty liver. but my gallbladder has more important issues in the form of the literal stone inside. she would not stop pushing for me to eat lower fat meals. all because i was sitting there, existing, as a fat person. i wish i would've told her i can only eat fish and plant matter
i don't understand how a patient telling you they're vomiting and can't keep down certain foods does not sound like a more pressing issue than an arbitrary number. weight as a number means nothing, it tells you nothing about that person's actual body composition. i have trauma with vomiting and yet i'm going to have to keep doing it anyway despite the fact that it could kill me via dehydration or if i just. can't stop
either way i'm very unhappy with result as i already waited for a month for this consult. now i have to wait for a referral for another surgeon to go through, and to do the consult with them, too. all while being in pain and having GI issues the entire time. just because a surgeon doesn't want to take the time to learn how to operate on fat bodies. i'm tired. what a joke

do you have any idea how to deal with period cramps? I need to get my period two days from now and my insides are melting
Pain killers (ibuprofen or mefenamic acid are my faves), heat packs, gentle exercise (walking, yoga), water. Chocolate or your favourite comfort foods can help a little bit. And if you feel up to it sex/masturbation can relieve cramps for a while as well.
Comfort food all the way but don’t forget to eat healthy foods as well. You’ll feel worse if you only eat chips and chocolate the whole week. Vitamin C from fruit and veggies will boost your immune system and keep you healthy while you’re down.
Period pain sucks but it shouldn’t prevent you from doing your normal routine. If it’s bad enough to keep you home from school/work you might have something else going on (PCOS, endometriosis, anaemia)

Gym updates:
° I am actually..... enjoying this..? Especially strength training makes me happy! I've had the complete sicko sequence of thought and actions being "wow I feel so shitty today maybe I should work out that will help" - then actually gone to the gym - and it works
° I'd still rather eat glass than do running for any extended period of time tho, running does NOT spark joy for me
° I signed up with a PT, we actually work really well together and I feel like she gets me AND she's a fellow pcos girlie!! (Well that's actually maybe why she gets me)
° some of you might remember back in January (?) I met an older butch4butch couple at the gym and womaned up enough to ask for help with bench press! Well I've met them again!!! We randomly met at a market and they invited me to sit down with them and have a coffee!!!! And it was really nice!!! They also told me what days they go to HIT&strength classes at the gym but the one time I've been able to fit it into my own schedule neither of them were there and also I hated the class rip. Sometimes I do pass one or both on my way in and out of the gym tho which is always nice!
° I listen to the original Sherlock Holmes stories on audiobook, and keep this as a treat reserved for the gym. Now I only have a few short stories left! I loved these stories as a kid and would rummage through flea markets to find translations. Now I listen in English and they're just really funny and interesting and have made working out more enjoyable! Idk what to do when I finish tho. I guess I'll have to stop going to the gym or maybe just start from the top again.
° the sauna is currently out of order which is making the dip into the small cold pool after workout slightly less enjoyable. But I've been promised that it shall be back and running by next week (not true the other times I've been told this) but I hope that's the case bc I Love the Sauna, and I enjoy that there's a space where you can just be naked and introverted with strangers (or on your own).
° net positive in my life! I think it is contributing to my being a bit more up-beat and energized, or at least less tired, in my day to day life. I am one who needs structures, but I struggle with implementing them, and the gym has actually been one of the few things I've been able to keep up, and it helps me structure my week!
°EDIT: how could I forget?? My knees are doing much better!!!
(I still appreciate any tips any of you would have regarding the gym or exercises or experiences etc!!)

Hey, I just came across your blog a minute ago and saw your posts about your PCOS, as well as your struggles with weight gain and birth control. I also have PCOS (as well as pre-diabetes) and I’m around the same age as you too 😊 the point is: I am familiar with your struggles. So I wanted to share my story and tell you what worked for me so you could consider it as a potential treatment option.
When I got diagnosed with PCOS several years ago, the doctors just told me the only thing you can do to treat it is birth control, dieting, and exercise, that’s it. 🙄 Which is kinda bullshit tbh and not very helpful, but there’s so little research on the subject of PCOS, so that’s probably all the info they could give me at the time. And I refused to take birth control because of my mother’s stories of the horrible side effects she experienced in it. So the doctors just gave me some medroxyprogesterone tablets every 3 months to induce my period, that’s it. But the doses weren’t often enough, I still never had a regular cycle, and my other symptoms weren’t managed either.
But then I got diagnosed with pre-diabetes a year or two ago, and my doctor recommended putting me on a medication to manage my blood sugar. I heard a lot of good things about Ozempic vs regular glucose regulating meds, so I suggested taking that. That shit changed my life for real!!! I lost 30 pounds, I got more energy, my excessive facial+body hair growth was significantly delayed, I had no more bloating, AND I finally had a regular period cycle for the first time in my entire life!!! 😱 🥳 It’s nuts to me how a drug designed for regulating blood sugar also regulates female/menstruating hormones. It’s been proven in recent studies with other women too!
I didn’t even experience any negative side effects! The only real problem is that my insurance doesn’t cover it, so it costs like $800-900 out of pocket every month 😭 but your insurance might cover it! I highly suggest checking on that and talking to your doctor about Ozempic to see if it works for you, if you’re interested in taking that route. (I also wanna clarify this is not an ad LOL 😂 I just think it’s a really effective medication and I like to spread the word to help my fellow PCOS girlies😌✨)

Secondly, i totally agree! I actually went to my doctors last week and they prescribed me metformin (a diabetic pill!) so hopefully we can get some help there!!!!
I heard lots of good things about that as well, especially because a lot of people with PCOS have insulin resistance, which makes total sense as to why a diabetic medication would work!

Hello Haitch! Hope you are doing well.
Last year during summer, I was diagnosed with PCOS (i had gotten it checked because i hadnt had my period in like 3 months) and since i was just 17, the doctor asked me to maintain a proper lifestyle and see till November and said that if it wasnt fixed by then, i had to do a checkup again. But i'd gotten my period by august so i never reached out again.
but this year (im 18 now), the last time id gotten my period was in april so it's been 6 months now. im gonna go to the doctor again later this month. but here's the thing— last year, i went to a gyno abroad because women's healthcare isnt the best in my country. but this year, its not possible for me to go abroad right now so im gonna have to work with a gyno from here.
now i have a feeling that theyll put me on pills and while i agree thats the easy way to fix this, im worried itll mess things up for the long run. the lifestyle the first gyno asked me to follow is a little difficult for me to get into since she'd asked me to exercise plenty and im a full time alevel student and it gets hard for me to maintain a proper routine like that. i also struggle with binge eating which i've heard comes with having pcos (im not sure if this is true tho).
so in one hand, i feel like it's easier to just start taking pills but then again it has so many side effects i don't know what to do right now.
Lots to unpack here.

Firstly, PCOS is often diagnosed based on vague criteria; lots of doctors flippantly diagnose it based on a volume of loose criteria. If you have an increasing number of these criteria, then yes, the chances are you have PCOS. However, it's often erroneously diagnosed without proper diagnostic procedures such as scans, bloods, and a full review of your longer term health history.
That being said, being on the pill doesn't 'cure' PCOS, it can simply manage the symptom of irregular periods. There's flimsy evidence on the pill's ability to manage/prevent weight gain and the development of other disorders that are associated with PCOS.
While weight loss is often harder for women with PCOS, especially if you have associated conditions such as an under active thyroid, it's not impossible.
Your lifetime chances of developing Diabetes are significantly higher with PCOS, and this chance goes up again if you struggle with increased body weight. PCOS and appetite changes like binge eating have been associated with each other, too.
So you'll only know if managing your weight and eating habits make a difference with your PCOS, when you've actually tried them to the absolute best of your ability. If you are at an increased ideal weight, losing weight can be very effective to manage and reduce the symptoms of PCOS.
Of the many, many thousands of women I've looked after, I'm sorry to say that those with PCOS who are very pro-active with managing their weight, perhaps taking medications as advised by their doctor (the pill and Metformin are the most common ones I see), and exercising regularly, are those who have the highest chance of being 'healthy' (though I do not use the term 'healthy' lightly).
Ultimately, PCOS is one of those things that just happens and isn't your fault. I also have an endocrine disorder that makes it very easy for me to gain weight and very difficult for me to lose it, so I absolutely understand the situation yours in right now.
But, what do you do with this information? Do you say, "I am X, Y and Z because of my PCOS" and leave it at that? Or do you say "I suffer with X, Y and Z because of my PCOS, so I make life choices to reduce the impact of my PCOS by 1, 2 and 3".
So my advice is this: PCOS may be the hand you've been dealt, but your lifestyle choices can massively improve the chances of you reducing its impact on your long-term health. I'm not blaming you, or acting like healthy eating, exercise and medication decisions are easy; they are not. Please recall I'm in a similar boat, and I'm not one to blame women for their complex health conditions.
I could talk all day about PCOS but this is my best attempt to summarise it for you.
It's really hard making tough life choices to manage the hand you've been dealt. I fully understand. I've gotten better at it as I've gotten older. @mrhaitch makes similar big decisions, because he has two diabetic parents and one diabetic siblings, so he takes care of his health to a brilliant degree, to try to give himself the best chance of not developing diabetes himself.

After reading your juicy story about how that man put you through the mattress (congratulations 😭) I went through your tags and you mentioned you have pcos. I found out earlier this year I have it as well. It’s torn down my self esteem a bit. My period is irregular and I’m so scared of developing hirsutism. I know it impacts everyone differently but do you do anything to regulate your pcos?
Hey nonny haha yes i have pcos. i have hirsutism but i just get extra chin hairs that i pluck/sugar off. theres vaniqua hair cream for it but its expensive so i just pluck and sugar. its not anything scary tbh.

ultimately pcos is caused by a hormone imbalance. your best bet is to help your body naturally balance those hormones as best as you can. alot of the hormones are effected by gut health. eating well, to balance your gut health and exercise should be the foundation but glp-1s like ozempic help balance hormones as well and slow down the digestion in your gut so it isn't overtaxed. i suggest go getting a full blood panel from your doctor so they can tell you what nutrients you are deficient in and which hormones need the most balancing.
you don't necessarily need to lose weight but i found personally weight highly exacerbated my pcos. im back on b-control now but for the first time weight loss and continuous glp-1s got my period back regular, all on its own.

bit've tmi under the cut
so i have pcos which for me makes my period cramps really fucking painful. about five years ago i got the contraceptive arm implant to try and balance out my hormones etc and one of the side effects, thank fucking god, was that it stopped my period. in the past five years i have had one period and that was just because i had to get the implant replaced after three. so with that background info for yas, i started a weight loss medication and i've started line dancing classes which is a lot more exercise than i'm used to doing. both of these things, i'm pretty sure, are the reason why i have apparently just gotten my period yesterday. for the first time in two years, second time in five. i feel fucking awful. i'm hoping it's just a one time thing because if i go back to getting my period regularly and it's at all like what it was before the implant, i'm going to actually lose my mind. i was genuinely so depressed and aggressive before, i hated everything, everyone and myself, i got to a point after 30+ straight days of heavy flow where i just wanted to actually die. it was bad. i really am hoping it's a one time cleanse thing which, idk if that's a thing but i hope it is, and then it goes away again never to return. but that's why i haven't been around very much this past week. i'm also preparing to have family over for the next two-ish weeks so i'll probably put up a 'low activity' notice or whatever, not that i've been particularly active lately anyway, but yeah. i just feel really uncomfortable and nauseas and achey.

This has been on my mind for a while so I have a question:
If you’ve never heard of it, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is pretty much just what it sounds like. It is when a woman develops cysts on her ovaries, or has the potential to. These cysts often throw hormonal balance out of whack throughout the entire body. Pregnancy-like symptoms can occur, as well as heightened testosterone levels.
Common symptoms of PCOS are:
Excessive body or facial hair
Insulin resistance that causes rapid weight gain and weight that can’t be shed even with proper diet and exercise
Excessive weight around the gut, a beer belly or inner tube
Hair loss on head
Irregular or entirely missing periods
Intense sugar cravings
Depression
And of course, painful ovarian cysts
There is no cure for PCOS yet, but there are treatments. If you suspect PCOS, get your hormones checked. Talk to a doctor. Estrogen-progesterone birth control may help, as well as Metformin (an insulin resistance drug for diabetics)
It is not considered genetic, but I disagree.
I am not a doctor, but I have PCOS and I’ve been doing a lot of research to help clear up my issues. I hadn’t been able to lose weight even with a healthy diet and regular 20 minute bike rides. It’s frustrating and debilitating. I thought that I was just stuck, but talking to my doctor gave me hope.
I know several other girls with PCOS (every woman on my dad’s side of the family) with all different struggles.

PCOS is wild. I haven't had a proper flow in months because I couldn't do much physical exercise bc of disability but the moment I'm able to finally do some, I get the bloodiest painful period I had in over a year what the fuck

send (HC: the name of one of my muses) and i’ll give you 5 random headcanons about them! feel free to specify if you want them to be relationship headcanons involving your muse.
Thursday has a medical condition called PCOS (poly-cystic ovarian syndrome), which a hormonal disorder. Some of the symptoms include irregular or absence of periods, infertility, weight gain, acne, depression, and hair growth in "unwanted" areas. Thursday in particular experiences absence of periods, infertility, weight gain/obesity, depression, and body acne.
Her name at birth was Charlotte Salvatore. When the Dampening mist took her as a host, she lost all of her memories, including the memory of her name. Cyrus is the one who named her Thursday, because for some reason the first question she asked was what day of the week it was. Cyrus found the nearest calendar, which was still marked with the day the mist attacked, which was Thursday, March 17, 2011. Although she did eventually regain her memories, Thursday decided to keep her new name, because her life as Charlotte had effectively ended upon learning that everyone she knew from before the Office had perished in the apocalypse and everyone else already knew her as Thursday.
Thursday may hate formal exercise, but she actually loves going outside and walking around! She loves urban exploring, hiking through woods, taking long walks on the beach, just any kind of walking around and looking at things. Even climbing trees, if she can manage it (she sure as hell will try!).
In conjunction with the above headcanon, she is curious to no end, and this fairly often leads to her getting stuck in situations that are dangerous. She's lost track of the number of times she's died/been killed as a result of her own curiosity. Cyrus would argue it's stupidity, though.
She loves to banter. It does not take long after meeting her to figure this out. Different kinds of banter with her mean different kinds of things. Stick around her long enough and you might be able to catch onto her different types. There's friendly banter, argumentative banter, manipulative banter, flirtatious banter, silly banter, and absolutely straight up bullshitting banter.

Is there anyone out there who has gotten a hysterectomy for pcos,or just in general, who could share their experiences? I don't want to get cervical cancer but getting pap smears is not an option for me. I have pcos and no intention of ever having children (or sex, for that matter) and when I say I'd rather surgery than a pelvic exam or pap smear I mean it.
Pcos fatigue has consumed my whole life but my hormone levels are all normal. My periods are random, often extremely heavy, and sometimes last for months at a time. No source online seems to talk about the possibility of postponing menopause with hrt but I'd heard that you could do that.
I feel like my body aged so fast, already. I lost my whole youth to this. My body feels like a disgusting, sick thing I have no control over. I don't want to make that worse by going into menopause at 30. But it feels impossible to find any information about what can be done for me because everything just seems to say "eat better and exercise so you can get pregnant".
Does anyone out there have experience going through this kind of thing? How viable is surgery as an option for me?

Hi, I'm summer, I'm 14 years old and I was recently diagnosed with PCOS
PCOS is short for polycystic ovarian syndrome. This affects many things including periods, their symptoms, fertility and can cause cists on the ovaries.
It can be passed down, so my mum and my aunt also have this. We are all affected in different ways.
My mum has the cists on her ovaries, and her period cramps and moods are quite severe
My aunt was affected in fertility, it was a miracle when she got pregnant, but because of pcos, she miscarriaged and hasn't tried for a baby again
I am affected by my period, in that I don't get it much anymore, it's very rare and very short if I do have it. My cramps and so horrible that it affects my school life.
PCOS is so overlooked in society and some people think just changing diets or exercising solves everything. Yes it may help, but it's not exactly a cure.
The doctors suggested I start taking the pill to try and get my periods back, but that's nor something I was open too, especially at this time where I'm still young. So I am left with agonising period cramps at random point in time, without any actual period.
Sorry for the long post but I thought it was important I provide some of the information I know about PCOS, so more people understand it a little more
