1. Biến tần báo lỗi quá dòng ( Fu.001, Fu.002, Fu.003) ~ OC (Over current) Biến tần báo lỗi quá dòng khi chưa kết nối với động cơ: Trong trường hợp này nhiều khả năng biến tần đã bị sự cố phần cứng (lỗi IGBT), mạch đo dòng của biến tần.

Kiểm tra xử lý:

Biến tần báo lỗi quá dòng khi đã kết nối động cơ:

Công suất biến tần nhỏ hơn công suất động cơ.

Thời gian tăng tốc quá ngắn hoặc thông số cài đặt chưa đúng.

Tải thay đổi bất thường, dòng tăng đột ngột.

Động cơ bị chạm vỏ hoặc dây kết nối từ biến tần ra động cơ bị chạm.

Phần cứng (mạch đo dòng) của biến tần bị lỗi.

Kiểm tra xử lý:

Trong trường hợp biến tần chưa kết nối động cơ hoạt động bình thường thì ưu tiên kiểm tra động cơ. (chạm vỏ, dây kết nối từ biến tần ra động cơ)

Tăng thời gian tăng tốc, cài đặt lại thông số động cơ hoặc cài đặt chế độ tự động dò thông số động cơ.

Kiểm tra nguồn cung cấp và tải.

Liên hệ nhà cung cấp.

2. Lỗi biến tần báo quá nhiệt ( Fu.014) ~ OH (Over Heat)

Quạt trên biến tần không hoạt động (quạt hoặc bo điều khiển hư hỏng)

Nhiệt độ môi trường quá nóng.

Bo mạch bên trong biến tần bám bụi không tản nhiệt được.

Lắp đặt trong không gian kín (tủ điện), không có quạt tản nhiệt và thông gió.

Cảm biến nhiệt trong biến tần bị lỗi

Kiểm tra xử lý:

Kiểm tra quạt biến tần, nếu quạt không chạy thì thay thế quạt hoặc kiểm tra bo điều khiển

Vệ sinh biến tần, dùng khí nén khô thổi bụi bên trong bo mạch.

Di chuyển biến tần đến vị trí thoáng mát hơn.

3. Biến tần báo lỗi quá áp: (Fu.004, Fu.005, Fu.006, Fu.007) ~ OV (Over volt) Quá áp lúc tăng tốc: (Fu.004)

Điện áp nguồn cấp quá lớn.

Bo nguồn bị lỗi.

Kiểm tra xử lý:

Kiểm tra nguồn cấp.

Liên hệ nhà cung cấp kiểm tra bo nguồn.

Quá áp lúc giảm tốc và dừng: (Fu.005, Fu.006, Fu.007) .

Thời gian giảm tốc quá ngắn.

Tải có quán tính lớn hoặc động cơ bị một tác nhân khác kéo, sinh dòng điện trả ngược về biến tần.

Kiểm tra xử lý:

Tăng thời gian giảm tốc.

Cài đặt thông số cho biến tần dừng tự do và bắt tốc độ

Gắn điện trở xã (điện trở thắng) phù hợp. Đối với biến tần không tích hợp bộ thắng (DBU), thì cần gắn thêm DBU để kết nối điện trở.

Liên hệ nhà cung cấp chính hãng để được thay thế linh kiện và sửa biến tần chính hãng.

4. Lỗi biến tần báo quá tải: (Fu.012, Fu.013) ~ OL (Over load) Lỗi biến tần quá tải (Fu.012)

Lựa chọn biến tần công suất chưa phù hợp.

Biến tần chưa dừng hẳn khi khởi động lại (khi chưa cài chế độ tự động dò bắt tốc độ)

Các thông số cài đặt trên biến tần chưa phù hợp.

Điện áp nguồn cấp quá thấp.

Tải quá nặng, bị kẹt hoặc động cơ bị lỗi.

Kết nối encoder bị ngược ở chế độ điều khiển vòng kín.

Kiểm tra xử lý

Kiểm tra biến tần có bằng hoặc lớn hơn công suất động cơ và phù hợp với loại tải chưa.

Điều chỉnh đường đặc tuyến V/F

Kiểm tra và điều chỉnh các thông số: tự động dò bắt tốc độ, chế độ chạy, bù momen khi khởi động, thời gian tăng tốc, cường độ dòng thắng DC trước khi khởi động và khi dừng.v.v.

Kiểm tra tải và cơ khí.

Kiểm tra encoder trong điều khiển vòng kín.

Liên hệ nhà cung cấp.

Lỗi motor quá tải (Fu.013):

Hệ thống cơ khí của máy, dây chuyền sản xuất hoặc động cơ bị kẹt.

Công suất động cơ không đủ.

Điện áp nguồn cấp quá thấp.

Cài đặt thông số động cơ chưa phù hợp. ( nhóm thông số nhập theo nhãn động cơ)

Biến tần lỗi phần cứng.

Kiểm tra lại động cơ và hệ thống cơ khí của máy hoặc dây chuyền sản xuất.

Đo nguồn cấp cho biến tần.

Nhập lại nhóm thông số động cơ hoặc cài đặt chế độ tự động dò thông số động cơ.

5. Biến tần báo lỗi thiếu áp: (Fu.008) ~ Uv (Under Volt) Nguồn điện áp cấp không đủ hoặc hệ thống điện bị sụt áp quá lớn.

Kiểm tra xử lý:

Kiểm tra nguồn điện áp cấp.

Phân chia nguồn cấp có các tải động cơ có dòng khởi động lớn.

6. Biến tần bị mất nguồn (P.oFF) ~ Power off

Nguồn điện áp cấp không đúng. (ví dụ: biến tần 380 V nhưng cấp 220 V)

Nguồn điện áp cấp bị ngắt đột ngột. (cúp điện, nhảy CB, hoặc terminal cấp nguồn vào biến tần bị lỏng)

Bo nguồn biến tần bị lỗi

Kiểm tra xử lý:

Kiểm tra nguồn điện áp cấp cho biến tần.

Kiểm tra CB cấp nguồn và dây điện kết nối vào terminal cấp nguồn.

When I started shipping them: So funnily enough it was because of this amazing destiel fic (WHICH I AM HAVING A CRISIS BECAUSE I CANNOT FIND IT AND I DO NOT REMEMBER WHO WROTE IT OR WHAT IT WAS CALLED). Anyway it was Dean and cas as Jason and Dick and i read it and was like “I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE OH MY GOD” And then I went out and read A Photograph From Life by @stevieraebarnes and I was hooked.

My thoughts: idiots. I love them.

What makes me happy about them: they compliment each other so well. Also they’re very smart yet very dumb at the same time and I really stand behind that kind of dynamic.

What makes me sad about them: DC seems hellbent on making sure they never appear in any comics together

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: overly feminizing Dick to make him into some pretty wife for Jason

Things I look for in fanfic: them being stupid. Also angst.

My wishlist: more fake dating. I know, I know, there’s so much out there but I will never get enough of these two fake dating.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: please let Jason get a boyfriend. I’m not even feeling picky right now, just a boyfriend please and not one of the terrible m/f relationships that Lobdell tried to write in rhato. I want Dick to be happy. So whoever makes him truly happy please. No more bad rape stories. Also, am I allowed to say joydick is a good alternative endgame? Because Roy deserves to be happy with them too. They would all be great dads to Lian.

My happily ever after for them: Dick admits that he actually killed the Joker temporarily, Jason realises that Dick did always have his back. Their love is messy and sometimes explosive but at the end of they day they realise that they are really good for each other.

— - the torment of his father and mother’s abuse ( mostly verbal , scolding him for giving himself a virus he never intended to have , calling him an embarrassment , etc. ) led him to becoming a reclusive person until joining the doom patrol , though , shortly after he’d heard about his parents boating accident which contributed to their death . soon enough , he left the doom patrol and joined the teen titans , changing his reclusive personality to being the comedic value that the titans needed . using jokes and comedy to cope with the death of his parents and the abuse dealt to him at a young age. now a valued member of the titans , garfield logan , ( aka BEAST BOY ) now felt like he had a place to call home . you can read more about him HERE & HERE , since i’m mixing both canons into one .

— - if you haven’t heard of garfield logan , then you’ve definitely HEARD garfield logan . with a voice that could burst eardrums if you got too close . as the only child and son of a biology professor and an animal biologist , he was was always seen a somewhat of a disappointment through the eyes of his parents. both of them taking turns and asking if he’d decided to go to college yet , if he knew what he wanted to do with his life . and the answer was always no . much to the dismay of his parents . and while it break his heart to have parents that didn’t support you choice to skip school altogether , it was simple to hide behind the veil of slacker friends who enjoyed your jokes . it was easier to fake a smile than it was to give everyone a real frown .

— - garfield lives comfortably on his own , barely making rent for his very run down , one bedroom , open living , studio apartment . working as a dog walker doesn’t as much money as he hoped . but he knows walking the dogs of the more wealthy people in PA would get him the money and tips he needed . not to mention , he’s a sucker for animals .

— - to make a long story short , garfield it quite literally that dumb , skater kid you see telling dumb jokes with his hat on backwards . he’s got a heart of gold and can be a little dumb sometimes . but it’s always with good intent . a total sweetheart , but will rip you to shreds if you mess with someone he loves. is a giant mess and totally not ashamed of it at all . will do everything in his power to make you smile ! just a goofy boy with the best intentions and is here to provide you with some sunshine.

001. you know what gar needs ? more friends. specifically, a PLATONIC SOULMATE. by that, i mean, someone who has so many things in common, they’re practically the same person. would be sick if they were one of his skater friends, but definitely not necessary. don’t get annoyed with him and love and support the decisions he makes... even if they’re dumb.

002. gar absolutely loves being able to annoy people to no end. he adores being able to make people smile and loves making people angry a little more. so, someone who could get annoyed with his very happy, silly and goofy demeanor would be amazing ! he will constantly tell you childish jokes about poop and tell you to spell ICUP... but, i promise he loves you. and maybe you keep him around because you secretly love it and he makes you smile !

003. please, i need someone to simply despise gar. get mad at him, make him cry, ask him how’s he’s so happy being a failure and not doing something good like his parents. if your muse is kind of an asshole, this is perfect. i just know not everyone is going to like him and i thrive on enemy plots !

Public Opinion in the JFK Library Archives: Civil Rights Protests and the 1963 March on Washington

On the morning of August 28, 1963, about 250,000 travelers came to Washington, DC for the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, the biggest civil rights rally of its time. These days, the March on Washington is remembered as a major milestone of the 20th century. But in 1963, Americans were divided about whether the March was a good idea at all.

A Gallup poll found that only 23% of Americans who’d heard of the March had a positive view of it - and the negativity didn’t come only from segregationists. President John F. Kennedy’s administration had recently drafted a new civil rights bill for Congress, and some civil rights activists worried that a big protest would push away representatives who were still on the fence about supporting it.

But while a record turnout was expected for the March, civil rights protests weren’t new to the American public in the Kennedy era – especially after a few very public showdowns between the White House and Southern governors. These and other events prompted people across the political spectrum to write to the White House with their views on American protest and civil rights activism. These public opinion letters are now part of the archives at the JFK Library, where we’re working on preserving and describing them.

The first wave of letters about civil rights protests hit the White House in May 1963, when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Birmingham Campaign” highlighted the violence that peaceful civil rights activists faced while trying to integrate the city of Birmingham, Alabama. Writers described the atrocities they read about in newspapers or, in some cases, experienced themselves.

But as news about the proposed March on Washington spread in June and July, a reporter finally asked for JFK’s views about this specific protest at a July 17 press conference. The President defended the right to peacefully assemble, but stopped short of a full endorsement:

I think that the way that the Washington march is now developed…I think that is in the great tradition. I look forward to being here. …I would suggest that we exercise great care in protesting so that it doesn't become riots, and, number two, that those people who have responsible positions in government and in business and in labor do something about the problem which leads to the demonstration.

After these remarks, the White House saw an increase in letters about the March. Many interpreted JFK’s press conference statement as an outright endorsement, and the reactions varied widely.

Many of the anti-March letters expressed worry that the Civil Rights Movement was controlled by Communists, or predicted riots or violence.

Other writers took the opportunity to write in about civil rights in general, covering a wide range of opinions and beliefs.

Though our archives don’t include White House responses for all of these letters, a form response sent to multiple writers shows consistency with the President’s July statement: that the administration supported peaceful protest, but did not “suggest, approve, or endorse” the March itself.

In the end, the March on Washington was a landmark achievement in the history of American protest, safely hosting more than double the number of marchers its organizers had planned for. National Urban League Director Whitney Young summed up the day in an interview after the March: “I just can’t see how anybody could have witnessed this today and denied something long overdue.” But only two weeks later, March leaders found themselves reunited via telegram – this time, to push the White House to action after a Ku Klux Klan bombing killed four little girls in the Birmingham Baptist Church basement. While the March was over, its organizers continued to assert that until the reasons behind it were resolved, the work wasn’t done.

COURSE DESCRIPTION & OBJECTIVES

This course is designed to shed light on the foundations and applications of scientific research in communication. In this class, students will learn new ways of asking and answering questions that will alter your approach to our mediated world. In particular, this course’s objectives include: 1) understand scientific research methods and basic concepts of research evaluation; 2) learn when to use the most appropriate method to investigate a certain research question; 3) learn how to design and conduct communication research; and 4) learn how to interpret the meaning of numerical results. Students will practice some basic statistics to learn how to interpret data tables and statistical relationships.

This course has three sections: the nature of social science research in general, quantitative methods (e.g., survey, experiment, and content analysis), and qualitative methods (e.g., observation techniques, interview). Once you learn diverse research methods and related concepts, your critical thinking and reasoning to see communication research in terms of how it is done, how it could be done better, and how it can be done to answer specific questions will all be enhanced. Some of you may have reluctant feelings about this course because you think that this course has little to do with your career goals. However, I want to remind you that all areas (e.g., communication, journalism, public relations, management, and marketing) begin with a solid foundation in research, and all areas are consistently related to the research process.

All assignments in this course should be original, NOT a recycled topic submitted for another course. All writing must be presented in clear, compelling, and grammatically correct papers and be typed in 12 font size and double-spaced with one-inch margins. Also, students are required to follow the APA writing style (6th ed.). The guide and samples of the APA writing style will be made available on Blackboard (BB). Each student is responsible for knowing and following the format requirements. All writing assignments should be uploaded to BB in time AND submitted as a hard copy of your paper at the beginning of class. If your paper fails to follow the requirements noted above, 3% to 20% of the assigned grade will be deducted.

General Tips For Writing:

• All sources should be listed in paper and references following the APA writing format.

• Periods and commas go inside quotation marks (“." or “ ,"). Please adhere to this convention.

• Use direct quotes sparingly. Direct quotes should comprise no more than 5-10% of the total word count of the essay. If the use of direct citations is considered necessary, note the page number with the author’s last name and publication year (Thomson, 2012, p. 237).

• Write from the third-person point of view (he, she, it). Do NOT use the first-person (I, we) or second-person (you) point of view unless specifically allowed in the assignment.

• After you give an author's full name once, then use the author's last name in the remainder of your paper. Do not use the author's first name alone.

• For in-text references, when first noted in paper, all authors’ last names should be presented (Thomson, Kang, Shipka, & Kim, 2011). For sources with more than three authors, note the first author’s last name and use “et al.” for others (Thomson et al., 2012) from the second.

INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENTS (400 POINTS)

Class Participation (20 points) The instructor reserves the right to give you in-class exercises without a notice. Your class participation will be evaluated based on consistent attention and contribution to in-class activities including lectures and discussion.

Quizzes (100 points) The quizzes will be given anytime during class. You should complete each chapter/lecture and come prepared to take the quiz. You will take 10-12 quizzes during the semester (10 points each). Only the best 10 scores of them count toward your grade after the TWO LOWEST scores are dropped. Quizzes are based on the lecture, assigned readings, and in- class exercises for that particular class period. The format of the quizzes will vary: short answer, T/F, fill-in-the-blank, and/or multiple-choice questions.

ONLY ONE missed quiz can be excused if you submit official documentation (e.g., a doctor’s appointment slip, prescription, etc.) stating a legitimate reason for your absence on the date of the given quiz. This documentation must be submitted within one week of the missed quiz date. Excused quizzes will be not counted in the calculation of your final quiz grade, so that you will still be able to drop your lowest quiz grade.

Library Resources (50 points) Regardless of the type of research, good library skills are essential in this course. This assignment is designed to familiarize students with the resources available through Albertsons library. A specific guide will be provided in class.

Literature Review Critique (30 points) To learn how to write a literature view of research paper, you will analyze and critique the literature view of one research paper provided by Dr. Kang. A specific guide will be discussed in class later.

Data Analysis (100 points) To learn how to analyze and interpret quantitative and qualitative data, three assignments will be required: TWO of quantitative data (70pts) and ONE of qualitative data (30pts). You will able to learn how to run SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) with real-world data provided by Dr. Kang and how to analyze qualitative data such as fields notes and analytical memos. Specific guides will be provided later.

In-Class Exam (100 points) There will be ONE in-class exam. Examination date and time will be toward the end of the semester. Check your schedule. Exam is a mixture of multiple-choice, T/F, fill-in-the blank, and essay format. Most of the questions will come from lectures given in class, the text book, and in-class activities. A make-up exam is offered only under dire and verified circumstances (i.e., serious illness or accident, family crisis, etc.). In such circumstances, you are expected to notify me via email prior to the exam time with some form of documentation. If an adequate notification is not done before the scheduled exam time, a penalty of one full letter grade is applied to the subsequent make-up exam.

GROUP ASSIGNMENTS (600 POINTS)

Each student will be assigned a group. Each group will design and conduct a research project throughout the entire semester. The project will involve a variety of assignments including research critique and presentation, applications of research methods, and a final research project. Every member of a groups is required to actively participate in and contribute to group projects. Sixty percent of the total points for the class come from group projects. Students are expected to work closely with one another, and behave responsibly.

Group Contract (P/F) Each group is required to create a group contract and submit the contract all group members signed. The intent of contract is all group members are valuable contribute to perform all tasks necessary for the completion of this course. Failure to follow the contract will result in a lowered grade for the class.

Peer Evaluations (P/F) After completing each group assignment, group members will evaluate each group member’s performance, including themselves. Students will rank each participant on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being poor and 5 being excellent. The evaluations will be reflected in each group assignments grade. Failure to submit peer evaluations ON TIME will be applied to the group participation grade.

Group Participation (50 points) This course requires each student’s active and close collaboration with group members. Student’s performance on each group project will be graded based on group members’ evaluations as well as my observation (10 pts per project). Group participation will include each student’s complying group contract, attending at group meetings, completing each assignment on time, behaving in an appropriate manner, demonstrating supportive attitudes, and ultimately making valuable contribution to each project.

Research Critique and Presentation (120 points) Each group will select TWO of research articles provided by the instructor, for a 4-to 5-page paper (50 pts per) and 5-10 minute in-class presentations (10 pts per). Specific guides and presentation schedule will be discussed at the beginning of the course.

Applications of Research Designs (80 points) The primary aim of this assignment is to practice research designs which students will learn in class. Each group will work on two research design assignments (40 pts each). Specific guides will be provided later.

Research Project Paper and Presentation (350 points) Final research project is designed to lead students to do their own research from reviewing the literature, collecting and analyzing data, and discussing findings. The project will involve a variety of assignments, including research proposal (P/F), research prospectus and in-class presentation (100 pts), final paper (200 pts), research poster (30 pts), and presentation (20 pts) at the poster session. Detailed instructions will be discussed later.

GROUND RULES/EXPECTATIONS:

Class Attendance Students are expected to attend all class sessions. Your class attendance will be considered based on attendance sheets, which will be circulated at the beginning of class. Any excuse absence will be considered only based on official documentation such as the case of a documented emergency or documented student illness (certified by a physician’s signed statement that the student was too ill to attend class at the designated time on the designated date), death in the student’s immediate family (verified by a newspaper obituary or equivalent document), or participation in an official event sponsored by BSU (again, verified with the appropriate documentation). An excuse for official events also should be presented to me in advance. In the event of an illness or family death, I should be contacted and the verified excuses presented as soon as possible.

I will present materials in class that is not discussed in the reading, and you will be responsible for that material on examinations. If you miss a class, it is your responsibility to get lecture, DVDs, and/or exercise notes for that day by checking Blackboard. As for group assignments, your group members rely on you to attend team meetings and turn in your best effort for the project.

Deadlines One of the critical expectations of this class is that you meet your deadlines. All assignments must be submitted and/or uploaded on BB on the due dates. You should be responsible for any work lost due to technical problems (e.g., computer or printer problems).

Penalty assessments for late submissions begin once the assignments have been collected. A deduction of 10% off the assigned grade is applied to late submissions turned in within the first 24 hours (for example, from the time that assignments are collected on Tuesday until the same time on Wednesday). Assignments submitted within the second 24 hours will result in a deduction of 20% off the assigned grade. After that (a total of 48 hours), the grade is a 0% (much worse than an “F”). For late submissions, emailed assignments are acceptable considering the possibility you could not meet the instructor after class.

If you are medically unable to submit the assignment in class, please email it to the instructor before the class by 4:00 p.m. of the due date with an explanation. Official documentation stating a legitimate reason for an emailed submission is required within one week.

Academic Honesty This course will strictly adhere to the University policies regarding individual integrity, and students are expected to conduct themselves professionally at all times, demonstrating highest levels of respect for the instructor and other students at all times. Any work done for this class is assumed-and required-to be your own. Cheating, plagiarism, or any form of academic dishonesty is not acceptable. Academic plagiarism is a serious offense. Any student violating the policy will receive a grade of F in this course. Just to be clear, this includes every unacknowledged use of materials written by others (even sentences or obvious paraphrases without quotes). Classroom Courtesy Classes will start on time. If late to class, students should enter the room as quietly as possible. Regarding electronic devices, students should make their cell phones silent before class. In order to excel in this course, students are allowed to use a laptop for note-taking purpose. However, students who will use their laptops should turn off Wi-Fi capacity in class as noted in class participation.

Class discussion will occur in an environment of mutual respect for opinions, ideologies, and points of view. During class discussion please treat others with respect. Monopolizing classroom discussion, side conversations, reading the newspaper, text messaging, preparing for another class during this class, writing a letter to your significant other---these are all examples of classroom disrespect. Disrespecting your fellow classmates or your instructor will NOT be tolerated.

Blackboard (BB) and Email All information in this course including lecture slides and instruction for assignments will be made available on blackboard (https://blackboard.boisestate.edu/webapps/login/). You should check BB and emails as frequently as you can. Questions concerning course content are always welcome during class. Please raise your hand and when called upon, you may ask your question respectfully. Also, please feel free to meet me before or after class or by making an appointment.

New Harvard Study shows for the first time that meditation upregulates genes in the AMPK pathway similar to metformin

A new study published in 2018 by researchers at Harvard Medical School showed for the first time that a collection of meditative techniques that led to the relaxation response (RR) in human patients significantly upregulated genes in the AMPK signaling pathway [1]. The RR elicitation routine included diaphragmatic breathing, body scan, mantra repetition, mindfulness meditation, and passively ignoring intrusive thoughts [1]. An upregulation of genes in the AMPK signaling pathway was detected via blood samples taken from patients in which total RNA was isolated from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) [1].

This study has an interesting connection to a recently published study in 2018 in which a retreat that included meditation led to an increase in the RNA-binding protein HnRNPA1 [2]. I first hypothesized and proposed that metformin and AMPK activation would beneficially modulate the activity of HnRNPA1 [3,4] . Indeed, the well-studied AMPK activator resveratrol has recently been shown to upregulate HnRNPA1 [5]. Additionally, HnRNPA1 binds to telomerase and plays a critical role in telomere maintenance, promotes latent HIV-1 reactivation (facilitating immune system detection and virus destruction), and is necessary for the transposition or “jumping” of “jumping genes” in human cells [6-9]. Metformin has also been shown to activate human telomerase (hTERT) in an AMPK-dependent manner and reduce cellular makers associated with latent HIV-1 in infected patients [10-12]. This evidence lends substantial support to several hypotheses that I originally proposed linking metformin and AMPK activation with telomerase activation, “jumping genes” in the brain (important for learning and memory), virus destruction, aging deceleration, human life creation, and even consciousness itself [3,4,13-17]. Strikingly, AMPK activation may also play a critical role in the beneficial effects of meditation on the human brain.

Meditation has been shown to increase brain gamma waves, brain gray matter density, and beneficial transcriptome changes in energy metabolism [18-20]. Interestingly, the Dalai Lama has also described meditation as “hard work”, indicating that meditation is an active process that challenges or slightly stresses the brain, leading to upregulation of genes in the AMPK signaling pathway as shown in the Harvard study [1]. This “mental stressor or challenge” is very much similar to challenging or stressing the human body with exercise, which is well-known to induce AMPK activation, leading to several beneficial effects [21]. The “mental challenge of meditation” is also analogous to the stress or challenge placed on the brain of animals when exposed to a stimulating environment, leading to an enhancement of learning and memory (i.e. long-term potentiation) and the “jumping of genes” [15,16]. Additionally, methodologies and neurotransmitters that are critical for inducing long-term potentiation (e.g. glutamate, high-frequency stimulation) activate AMPK in neurons and nearly every anesthetic used clinically to induce and maintain general anesthesia, including propofol, activates AMPK and excites the brain in low doses (called paradoxical excitation) [15,16]. Nearly every neurotransmitter that plays a critical role in wakefulness, arousal, and cognition also activates AMPK, supporting my original hypothesis that AMPK activation likely plays a central role in promoting consciousness itself [16].
