Me: Aaah yes, 3am-it is time for that great mistimed inspiration as I would prefer going to sleep and keeping my sleep schedule semi-intact-BUT if I were to actually go make art, 3d or otherwise, that would be great as I have waited the entire day for just this moment
My brain: Rewatch ALL of Durarara!!
Me: .....that's like....over 50 episodes or so...I...no?
My brain: Other option is to read the Light Novel
Me: That's even more!!! No thanks!
My brain: Alright.....oh, why not go rewatch Bungou Stray Dogs then? You haven't caught up with the manga for months either so better reread that completely as well (i remember some bigger differences between manga and anime....)

I loved the child! Reader, you did and wondered what the characters' first response or reaction was to the fact that their guiding light was actually a kid, still under the age of 10, and still too young to be reading or watching something like Bungou Stray Dogs.
There, enjoy.
Finding out, that you are a child

Connected to this oneshot.
Warning: Soft Platonic Yandere. OOC. Mention of stalking. Two swear words. English is my second language.
Recently, you got a habit to talk with BSD Characters every time you open the app. It makes you feel, like you have friends.
Today was your birthday, so you decide to tell BSD cast about the presents, you got.
__________
In the app.
__________
Katai, Ango and Fyodor finally managed to hack the camera on your phone. Today, all of them will finally see Their Guiding Light.
All of them gather in a meeting room. The Special Screen, that they use to browse the Internet with you, was put on the wall. On this screen, they will see your face today. They were waiting for you to open the app.
The moment has come.
Their Guiding Light open the app. During the loading screen, they start talking. They sounded happy.
"Guys, it's my Birthday! I wish, you can see, what I get today!"
The Screen shines. And then they saw you.
A kid. You were a kid. No older, then ten-year-old.
With bruises on their wrists.
BSD cast were silent.
Their Guiding Light were still talking.
"Guys, look, I got a sketchbook on my birthday!"
You "show" them a cheap sketchbook.
"I already draw something there"
You open the first page.
A group portrait. A childish drawing. All of them. With you, standing in the middle. All people on the drawing were smiling.
"This is us. All of us are friends."
The Gang was silent. Meanwhile, you open the next page.
Another drawing. Dazai and You. Dazai was protecting you from three monsters. Two monsters were big. Third monster were smaller, but still bigger than you.
The monsters were named.
Dad
Mom
Derek
"This is Dazai. He is protecting me. He is my guardian even now."
You take something from your pocket and show to them.
The keychain. Dazai's figure.
Dazai himself were looking at you with soft eyes.
Then, they heard the noise. Someone was knocking on your door.
"Hey, unwanted sibling! Are you finally have gone mad? Who are you talking to? To imaginary friend, like a baby?"
That someone laughed and left.
Then BSD gang heard you mumbling.
"I am not a baby. I am nine."
_____
You spend sometime talking about your day. When you closed the app, the first few moments in the app were silent.
And then the wall was broken.
______
🐾 They were concerned, that you are too young to learn about their lives. You are too young to learn about Mafia, killers, black market, terrorists and so much more.
🐾 But, they were more concerned about your life situation.
🐾 You saw your parents and older brother as monsters. Your brother calls you an unwanted sibling. You had bruises on your wrists.
🐾 Characters, that wanted to hurt you, before hearing your voice, already feel awful. Now, after they learned that you are a kid, they were feeling absolutely terrible.
🐾 All of them enraged. Especially Dazai.
🐾 After seeing his keychain with you, he proclaimed you his child.
🐾 They need to hurry. They need to save you.
🐾 They will be your new family. Family, that loves you.

Bonus.

__________
Before you got into their world
__________
You were watching Season 4 of BSD. Characters were sitting in the meeting room, watching it with you. They enjoyed your comments, even though, you have already read the manga, and they hear them.
You were watching the episode about ADA been chased by Hunting Dogs.
And then Chuuya Nakahara on the helicopter appeared.
"You have fucked up, Detective Agency!" said Chuuya on the screen.
The Cast heard a loud gasp. Dazai clenched his fists, he glared at Chuuya, that was sitting on one of the chairs.
"Mind your language, hat rack! There is a kid watching you!"
Chuuya snaps in return.
"Back off, Vagabond! Little Guiding Light are smart kid, they won't repeat bad words after us."
___________
Later. When you get into the BSD world
___________
You were sitting on the chair, between Dazai and Yosano. You were eating pancakes.
Meanwhile, Fitzgerald was using The Internet. He was doing something about transferring his money to the real world.
Fitzgerald growl.
"This Bank is awful. They lost the documents. Now, we have to wait another three days to try again."
You chew the pancake and asked.
"It means that They have fucked up?"
Everyone became silent. Dazai stand up with a loud gasp. He was looking at you, clutching his fists.
Oda tried to calm Dazai down.
In the next moment, Dazai was holding Chuuya down, his wrist was raised right above Chuuya's face. Dazai was still looking at you.
At the end, Oda managed to pry Dazai from Chuuya and you promised never say this word again.

Currently thinking about the DoA.
Nobody in that organisation had the same goals. Fukuchi wanted to end a war, Fyodor wanted to further whatever the fuck he's doing, Nikolai hoped that the organisation would bring him closer to freedom. Sigma wanted a home. Bram never wanted to be there in the first place, as far as we know.
They were all just people who were alone who ended up together, but unlike the ADA, they're only there to use each other. They don't become close, a lot of them can relate to each other, but it doesn't help.
All organisations in bsd have a colour scheme, and the Decay's is white and purple.
Fyodor wore a white hat for the majority of his time with the DoA, while the other members all had white hair, maybe because he always intended to betray the organisation and was just disguising himself. He also played victim with Ace in season 3 only to outsmart him by the end of the episode.
Fukuchi wore the red-ish hunting dogs uniform, but used Amenogozen, which is sometimes shown to be purple and sometimes white, since he knew how terrible all the Decay were and was just using them like a weapon for what he believed was a good cause.
Nikolai wears mostly white, but a bit of black. He joined for selfish reasons, but in the beginning it was with what he considered good intentions; he wanted freedom, and didn't come to the conclusion that he needed to kill the guy who introduced him to the DoA in order to do that until later.
Bram never wanted to join. What we see of his outfit at that point is all black, but it's not until the sword is pulled out and he's free from the DoA that he has a full body and therefore full black attire.
Sigma almost entirely consists of white and purple, because, until Atsushi tries to save him, he has no loyalties besides the DoA; no intention of leaving.
But Nikolai defects and saves both himself and Sigma when Fyodor most likely intended for them to die, in order to kill him in Meursault. Sigma is ready to join the ADA if and when he gets the chance. Bram escapes with the help of Aya.
And then Fyodor abandons all pretense of being at all loyal to the DoA by killing Bram and Fukuchi, and then his new outfit (Bram's) is entirely black, and he's not wearing a white hat to cover up that he's not like the rest of them.
But none of them are entirely loyal, so what makes him different? I can't say for sure.
What I DO know, is that the DoA have ceased needing each other, so I think all the ones that are still alive are going to get a colour scheme change pretty soon. (Bram is too dead for that, but Fukuchi is Amenogozen now and Fyodor, as mentioned above, is wearing all black.)
So, for Nikolai, his past outfit was black and white, but primarily white. Also what it means for his character that a clothing change may or may not mean he gets rid of his jester persona is, uh, content for another post once I think about it more because I feel like that'll be Big.
And Sigma? Probably, he'll be wearing something more ADA adjacent (beige and possibly soft sunset tones, I believe) at some point soon.
Anyways yeah in conclusion the DoA was never a proper organisation, none of them cared for each other nor were they working towards the same goals, their needs just happened to align at some point. Also this is reflected in their character designs.

I am not a dazai hater by any means, but you talk so respectfully (and make a lot of sense) about your opinions on him I can't help but really enjoy your blog! I particularly loved your ship opinions posts. Any other characters you want to share ship opinions on?
Hi friend!!
I'm glad I came off as respectful and left a positive impression on you! I do a lot of shit-posting about Dazai, but I do feel like I am at least fair to him when I am analyzing his actions? Other times, yeah, I'm just indulging in my desire to beat him bloody. Just, like, once. To get it out of my system XD. For science.
And the ship posts! Those were soooo fun to make. And oh, let me think about any other ships and my thoughts on them...
Fyolai (Fyodor / Nikolai) – Remember how I was like "there's just some things you don't write if you don't want people to ship two characters?" This is another case. This is the reason I disagree with people that go like "bsd is the only manga where no ships are necessary," like bro, there's so many things wrong with that sentence. It is absolutely necessary to make a bond such as these two's feel almost tangible to the viewers. It is essential to understand Nikolai's emotional dependance on Fyodor as a driving factor to his actions. Nikolai is orbiting around him, and you can see Fyodor having a genuine interest in this man, who doesn't play a big role in his grand plans. To me, these two feel kinda like Soukoku? Something something "the stars aligned so we could meet." 10/10 ship.
Ranpoe (Ranpo / Poe) – What God do I need to pray to in oder to get about 50 OVAs with these two?? Season 4 Ranpoe was the biggest treat and gift to me, personally. I love love love their dynamic so much. Like, yeah, Poe idolizes Ranpo, but he is now just as much in Ranpo's radar as well! Ranpo imprinted on him, he is Ranpo's emotional support rich boyfriend for fuck's sake. The way Ranpo uses his ability seamlessly?? Like it belongs to him?? Like he's so goddamn comfortable with it?? And what about the, "What would I do with myself if Ranpo-kun were to die..?” They're literally soulmates. They met and clicked so hard, they found each other, they suit each other, they complete each other. 10 million/10.
AtsuLucy (Atsushi / Lucy) – Firstly, I love Lucy, I think she's a great character, I love her design and personality and ability and everything. My baby. However, I have no particular attachment to this ship. It's not bad, and it's perfectly valid, but I don't see like- a need for it, you know? They understand each other, have stuff in common, and impacted each other's lives; I do love when two characters save each other left and right, so kudos for that. Honestly, they seem like they'd be absolutely amazing friends, really close, and honestly, I would love to see Atsushi have such a friendship, I think it would be good for him, but personally I don't see them in a romantic light. 9/10 ship due to the lack of feels I got from their interactions.
HiguGin (Higuchi / Gin) – I think that they're amazing and I would die for them. I need a spin-off of them. I need at least a whole WAN episode of them going on a date and shopping and eating ice cream and training and going to the beach– basically everything because they'd have the best relationship ever. I can just see them cuddling on a couch and watching TV as sskk fight over the last dumping in the kitchen. I need more about them like I need air. Also, petition for Beast Higuchi and Beast Gin to take over the Mafia. For reasons. 10/10 ship.
FukuMori (Fukuzawa / Mori) – Yeah, yeah, they're divorced Double Black and whatever, but let's be real for a second; no one can convince me that when Fukuchi first showed up, y'all's reaction was not, "Hold on a second Fukuzawa, what about your husband?!" The way Fukuchi behaved with Ranpo screamed new boyfriend trying to gain the son's approval, I was dying XD. "But Fukuchi knew Fukuzawa first!!" Yeah, yeah, I don't care– I'm not a zskk shipper until Fukuchi enters the screen. Let Fukuzawa and Mori be the yin and yang pillars of Yokohama. 9/10 ship because Mori is *sigh* a bad guy. Sad.
Odango (Oda / Ango) – They are married. No, I will not accept criticism. This is canon to me.
KuniBram (Kunikida / Bram) – My sister has decided they're also married and coparenting, so the conclusion is that they're married and coparenting.
I can't think of any ships right now, but do mention if there's one you like that I have missed!
(Honorary Mention: Dead Apple Trio) – So, we agree they fucked, right?? That wasn't subtext in the slightest, that was the greatest amount of subtle and yet ostentatious display of repressed homosexuality I've seen since SuperWhoLock hit this website. Dazai did not look that good to simply not be pushed against a table/wall. That's a disservice to him.

one thing that struck me about today’s BSD season 4 episode (aside from the world-turning-to colour moment, which was super dope!), was the use of levels and positioning. in particular, i’m referring to ranpo’s scene here, where he makes his address to the audience.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
first of all, the imagery of him being on a throne directly calls to his self-proclaimed new status as the “world’s greatest detective”. but what’s also interesting is just how high up he is.
it’s not so clear in those first screenshots, but here, you get this very clear view of how high up he is. he’s on the tallest level of the stage, above murakami, the policemen, and the audience.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this whole sequence takes place after fukuzawa hands him those infamous glasses, and tells him that he’s gifted. ranpo believes he’s an ability user, and so, this separates him from the masses in his mind, who are visually represented here by the audience on the ground (including fukuzawa, who hasn’t discovered his ability yet at this stage). and this not only separates him from them — it elevates him. putting him on, not only the stage, but the highest part, emphasises the difference in his self-perception. he is different from the regular ‘monsters’ because he is an ability user: a rarity, an urban legend of sorts.
even here, when the police officer (who is definitely not suspicious at all) comes over to compliment ranpo and fukuzawa, the concept of levels is at play. this police officer is, to our current knowledge, a regular, non-gifted human. he even expresses shock and awe at the fact that he’s in the mere presence of an ability user. ranpo is at the top of the stairs, again, emphasising his position as a gifted ability-user, someone beyond the skills of a regular human.
Tumblr media
and ranpo’s (literal) elevation, especially in the stage scene, is also linked to the themes of the play itself, i’d argue. and like, full disclosure that i’m long overdue for a reread of untold origins since my memory is very blurry at best, so i’m just going to be basing this off what the anime does with the play (since, after all, this is a post analysing the relevance of positioning and layers/height/elevation in the anime).
at the start, it’s stated that angels are ‘gifted’ beings — and the word used here is, to my knowledge, the same as the word for ability user (please correct me if i’m wrong!). so the association is immediately established: gifteds — ability users — are strong, beyond human comprehension, and powerful enough to strike a fallen angel down. so that is to say, stronger than the normal, status quo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there’s religious (largely christian) imagery written all over the stage. at the start, one of the fallen angels in the play is ‘murdered’, and the imagery behind is undoubtedly a nod towards the crucifixion of jesus. and this position and framing here very much reminds me of an altar. especially with murakami’s ‘corpse’ under the (white!) cloth.
Tumblr media
ranpo’s position, above everyone, being deliberately above the cross, the centre of the spotlight — it’s almost as if he is some higher being. something there to cast judgement above all. something like… an angel. who are gifted beings, according the play, as he himself believes he is, since he’s been dubbed an ability user by fukuzawa.
indeed, the murder and the play are deeply connected — but so’s the symbolism of ranpo rising above everyone else and the concept of ‘gifteds’/‘ability users’ and the concepts laid out in the play. at least, in my view.
positioning has always been used in the BSD anime to display power dynamics and relations, and it’s a similar concept here. the subtle details make all the difference to the way we view the anime, i think. and that’s the power of visual storytelling!

These new blorbos you got here, they’re compelling. Should I give Bungo Stray Dogs a shot? Manga or anime?
YESSS okay so. i do really enjoy the bsd anime but the manga is (imo) significantly better. especially once you get to late season 4/season 5. the anime tends to,, sort of water down some characterizations. however the nice thing about the anime is that it includes adaptations of some of the light novels, whereas if you only read the manga, you would have to break at certain parts to read the light novels (specifically the dark era light novel i would say is most important to understanding the main storyline). something else the anime did that i. am not a fan of. is they changed the first light novel - dazai's entrance exam - so it takes place during the events of season 1 instead of two years prior when dazai first joined the agency, and they cut out a good half of it in order to cram it into two episodes
my Ideal recommended watching/reading order is:
bsd anime seasons 1-2 -> the dead apple movie -> bsd anime seasons 3-4 -> bsd manga, either from the beginning or from chapter ~71 to chapter 112 -> bsd anime season 5 -> bsd manga, chapter 113 onward
i also highly recommend reading dazai's entrance exam light novel at some point, but it doesn't matter when. as for the other light novels:
the dark era is adapted at the beginning of s2 (i have not finished reading the ln itself so i can't speak as to how good the adaptation is), fifteen is at the beginning of s3 (this one is mostly good, but some of the fun bits and little characterization moments esp with dazai are cut), ranpo's backstory in untold origins is at the beginning of s4 (i have not read this + i believe the untold origins light novel has more than just ranpo's backstory which was not adapted). the fifteen light novel also has a manga adaptation which i believe is either about to be finished or just recently finished updating. dead apple also has a manga, and was adapted into a movie. i have not read this light novel yet either.
the BEAST light novel is an alternate universe. i have only read the manga for it, but i definitely recommend. there's also a live action movie adaptation which i have not seen but i do not trust. wouldn't recommend watching that first from what i know of it.
light novels without adaptations: storm bringer is chuuya's backstory - i'm partway through this and it is widely regarded to be the most emotionally devastating of the light novels (with the exception of, perhaps, BEAST). 55 minutes i believe takes place sometime in the season 2-3 era? and focuses on atsushi & akutagawa (+ dazai & kunikida?) i haven't read this one yet but i've heard many good things. there's also gaiden which focuses on characters who aren't really present in the main bsd show/manga - one of the main characters works in the government and shows up at least in dead apple. i haven't read this one yet either so can't say much about it. the day i picked up dazai was just recently released, and i haven't read it so i can't say much about it either except i believe it focuses on oda & dazai and might be best understood if you've read BEAST first.
there's also BSD wan! which is a silly comedy vibe spin off. there's one season of it + a manga, but it's not required watching/reading and i don't believe it's considered canon to the main storyline. there are also several anthologies which also have little stories in them but are not necessarily considered canon to the main storyline, but i've heard those are hard to find translations for
tl;dr: the manga is overall better than the anime, but the anime is probably best to start with because it includes important information in the light novel adaptations. once you finish season 4, i would read at least chapters 71-112 of the manga before watching season 5

Hot take, Bones doesn't deserve the amount of hate they are getting. Some, I understand but the amount I'm seeing is ridiculous. They have multiple projects they're working on and I get it, rushing through BSD isn't great but they can't animate everything. Also... the way they animated Aku makes more sense. Hard to give a soft smile losing such a large amount of blood from your neck.
Mmh, I understand that it can be disheartening to see something you like so heavily criticized, but I do believe the studio is doing some major mess up this season and that people are legitimately enraged.
I'm the first one to say that we're all here to have fun and there's not really any point on focusing on things we dislike, but I think it's also valid to be upset when something you care about a lot is treated unlovingly, and people are in their own right to express such disappointment. Moreover, I feel like in this case there is a point in expressing one's disdain. It's important to be critic of the media we consume: we could all pretend to be satisfied and settle on complacency, but wouldn't that be deeply detrimental? Otherwise, sometimes it's important to acknowledge and even state loud that you don't like something, because it's only by recognizing something is wrong that people can get to work to change it and improve. If we all tamely pretended we liked the new season, if there was no one to ever evaluate its direction, animation quality, pace, there's little hope for any of them to improve, simply because there's no need to change something people are happy with.
Theodor W. Adorno is my favorite sociologist. He once said, “the splinter in your eye is the best magnifying-glass available”. With that he meant that pain is the greatest source of knowledge. Pain allows to see things that otherwise would go unnoticed: only by acknowledging pain one can understand that something is wrong, that something needs to be changed and improved. I think it's always important to state: “this is wrong”, because nothing can ever be fixed if you don't first recognize it's broken.
Personally, I do believe what Bones studio is doing is wrong. I don't think it's fair to have such a drastic quality drop with the last season just like it wasn't in the third. I don't think it's right to not have an original opening sequence nor an ending sequence (that we know of). I don't think it's right to have such a fast pace that you can't keep up with the events. I don't think it's right to have a season filled with reused animations. I don't think it's right to have very little animation to the point there's up to 36 seconds of the same static frame in a single scene. I don't think it's right to have a quality drop in the drawings and quality inconsistency between one episode and the next. I think it's outrageous that the Fukuchi vs. sskk fight was so poorly animated and completely striped of any emotion. I don't think it's right of them to assassinate Akutagawa's chapter 88 panel. But most of all, I don't think it's right to have a season come out three months after the other. I don't think that's in any way ethically sustainable, and I don't think anyone needed that. I don't think it's right that studios don't get that people don't want an uninterrupted flow of content, people want quality content, and it's important to say that, or they'll never get it. I think they messed up greatly with this season, and I don't think being working on multiple projects can use as an excuse in any way, because as a studio you should be able to tell when you've got your hands too full to handle another project without meeting the quality standard. If Bones studio was working on too many projects, they simply shouldn't have set this season up for release so early, because again, NO ONE needs a new season after just three months.
I can see why you would say that the way they animated Akutagawa's last words makes more sense. It definitely is more rushed, and ugly. I guess one could argue that it conveys how death is precipitous and unpleasant, and doesn't leave space for last words. ... But I highly doubt that much was intentional. The sskk scene in its entirety was so poorly curated that I can hardly see the direction make thematically relevant choices. Even in the rare hypothesis it was a conscious and intentional directing choice, the outcome was still extremely underwhelming, because the moment itself doesn't feel rushed in particular since it's coming right after an episode that was rushed in its entirety.
I agree Akutagawa's death scene in the manga isn't realistic the slightest. But realism in that moment was never what the reader was asking for in the first place! It's a moment of conclusion for Akutagawa. It's the end of his cruel and hated life, and the author chooses to end it in kindness. By giving him a moment to smile and redeem himself, the author is showing Akutagawa the compassion he never received in his violence ridden life. Death scenes in media are almost never meant to be realistic! Their main aim is to move the audience, not to portray a realistic death. It's part of the deal the audience makes with the media the second they start interacting with it, to suspend their belief in order to enjoy the media at its fullest. It's, fundamentally, the same reason why you wouldn't question the characters having superpowers.
All the same, if you find yourself to be on average satisfied with the anime, that's perfectly valid too!!! I'm sorry people's disappointment may have resulted disheartening, and I understand it's hard to avoid, but my best advice is to try and curate your own internet experience to be so that you see the least negativity as possible. You might want to consider blocking and unfollowing people whose comments you find unpleasant, even if it's just temporary for the time the season airs. If it gets too much, refrain from visiting the main tag on Wednesdays when new episodes drop if that can work for you. I recognize we as a fandom could work better to build a space that is enjoyable for people who are liking the new season and wouldn't want to meet so much negativity, and I'm the first to admit I've been quite inconsistent in tagging my posts recently, so in the future I'll try to tag negativity accordingly. I do appreciate you for reaching out and sharing your opinion Anon! Let's all work together to build a better fandom space for everyone (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*.✧

Well I’ll be damned, this was a lot better than I was expecting. The third work from kimisen’s author and the follow up to last season’s God’s games we play which was the worst show of the season and a snoozefest, I expected a cookie cutter isekai but this was actually a nice change up on the formula. BSD meets Konosuba?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Went into this totally blind so as the episode went on I’m like wait, that’s totally Dazai with the suicidal gimmick 😂 even in this show he can’t get his perfect suicide because of the isekai set up. Where’s Kunikida when you need him? This is also the first time I’ve ever seen an isekai with an actual historical figure too, so props to Sazane sensei for doing something different.
I loved the first meeting between Annette the Goddess and Dazai. Dude’s trying to commit suicide mid speech with the pills and she’s just totally shocked. Years and years of welcoming heroes to this world, but never one who tries to kill himself off rip. Understandable she’d become disillusioned with her job given the type of people she was running into. Seems like the most arrogant and pretentious people got isekai’d.. and then you have Dazai who couldn’t care less about it lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The tree scene is an example of what could make this series special. You have your traditional fantasy tentacle rape trope, but instead of Dazai getting flustered or even trying to save cat waifu, buddy is just in awe at how beautiful a dying woman looks and even tries to join her 💀 some.. convenient camera angles there too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Most people’s motivations for being isekai’d are starting a new peaceful life or gaining glory, Dazai just wants to find sacchan and commit double suicide properly this time 😂 this is gonna be a fun ride and the girls are hot af

yeahh atsushi's internal monologue and plea always felt like a eye of the storm moment to me, absolute silence, except for the plea for "somebody anybody... please fight with me". it could have stood well enough on its own, just atsushi calling out in the darkness, the music was not needed
EXACTLY exactly!! It's a moment of complete solitude, and that can only translate with low and slow music / complete silence tbh.
(Following a line of thought I ended up rambling a bit about some things I haven't had the chance to bring up so far, it's quite negative on occasions so leaving it under the cut / feel freee to ignore)
I don't knowwwww like why are they compressing the episodes so badly to the point in three (3) episodes they never had time to roll the ending credits. I don't get it. In my very humble opinion: chapters 84-87 should have taken one episode and half (again. The sskk / Fitzgerald fight has the same length and that's the anime screentime it got). And it actually works perfectly, because chapter 87 *needs* to be a cliffhanger at the end of the episode, so they could have easily arrenged the episodes like: all the previous episodes events (chapters 78-83) should have taken two episodes and half, then the remaining half together with the entirety of episode four would have adapted chapters 84-87. As in season 4, the amount of events adapted isn't really the issue (they're almost adapting on panel by panel basis) as much as it is the restless pace that leaves you trying to catch your breath. By making the events adapted so far take 4 episodes they could have easily spaced everything better, include some things that were overlooked (I feel like leaving out Fukuchi's motives was a big loss... Like as an anime only, why is he even doing what he's doing? I know some people have speculated it's for political reasons and I understand the argument, but then again even if they wanted to include it, how could they possibly make it fit)- not to mention, well, maybe have enough time to show the ending and not make it overlap with scenes that have a completely different atmosphere.
I don't know why they're cutting things so short. The pace was a problem with season 4 too, but now in addition to that there was also a massive and evident quality drop to the animation which... Eh. Episode 3 had whole scenes of just static frames which are extremely awkward to see, and a thousand times more so in a supposedly action centered episode. From the very beginning: if one was bitter enough to bring together all the time they spent on the same Akutagawa / Dazai on opposite sides frame in the first flashback sequence they'd get 36 seconds, which is just unacceptable.
I don't get it. Wouldn't it make more sense to make as many episodes / seasons as possible as to have more dvds to sell AND to keep the fans engaged with the franchise for as long as possible? It's not like the manga updates super quickly so they were in a rush to catch up or something. But that can only lead me to one consideration: what was the reason of having two seasons come out in the same year? From my very limited perspective, applying a little common sense, here's a very simplified way to describe how I'd guess things should work: anime company releases a season. The anime season gets the fans invested, so anime company can sell them merch for a while- and that's why you can attest an abundance of merch release simultaneus and following the anime airing. After some time passes, the audience will start losing interest: that's when anime company releases a new season, and the cycle starts over. If anime company releases the seasons with such a small time frame between them, aren't them losing profit? This way anime company basically ends up losing all the potential profit of the first wave of interest that comes after the season that released first. And it's reasonable to guess that, given the unusual amount of it, bsd profits /a lot/ from selling merch, so I don't get it. (And that is neglecting, in a way that is reprehensible on its own, mentioning the negative ethical consequences that releasing one season right after the other has, especially in relation of overworking animators. I was hoping the execution of season 5 was assigned to a new animators team who worked on it in parallel to season 4 but, given the evident drop in quality and overall how unpolished the new season is, I'm afraid one can't afford the luxury to believe that anymore).
Tl;dr: Capitalism ruined the Atsushi “I’m all alone someone come rescue me” scene, which should have had either silence or a gloomy background music, but instead got the ending song because they just don't have space to fit things. I really can't seem to understand why they'd rush the anime release because it doesn't make sense to me from any point you see it. Also justice for chapters 84-87

im fucking feral
edit: basically, ignore most of this, i was delirious. i read a few different things that made sense, im dumb and im just ignorant LMAO so sorry about that anyways, im scared as balls for the next episode.
ofc spoilers for the newest bsd episode i would say manga spoilers but SOMEHOW we're fucking caught up? im still so baffled at how they managed to animate AND voice chapter 109 AND the first 7 pages of 110
what the actual fuck
anyways xoxo
im only writing this bc im confused at what the fuck is going on with the next episode, because ive been under the impression that season 5 was only gonna be 10 episodes long 💀
yeah so im a bit lost
im gonna make another post analysing the fucking chaos we've just been given in the form of episode 10 but rn i just want to talk about the apparent episode 11 we're being given
does everyone genuinely think that it's gonna be a continuation of right now? because i really dont
i dont know what its gonna be, maybe another adaptation of one of the light novels
but i really dont think its going to be a continuation. would asagiri really put the anime ahead of the manga? idk. but i genuinely dont know bc the episode title seems to be in line with the current fucking calamity that is this vampire arc, irdk, genuinely ive never been so baffled lmao
the anime watchers are now caught up with the manga, and that genuinely blows my fucking mind, based on the fact that the end of episode 10 was literally only released a little over a week ago (manga) like what
anyways. idk whether the next episode will be the last, whether we'll have up to 12 or 13 episodes, whether it takes a complete new direction, idk. idk whether itll somehow switch into beast, or stormbringer or the time i picked up dazai - i really have no fucking clue lmao
im so baffled
and pissed off at a fair few things in the newest episode, but also pretty happy with it
anyways have a great day/night wherever you are, bc i sure as hell wont LMAO im gonna be thinking about this shit all night

I js realized that I forgot to ask some questions 😭😭
Anywayz-
By 🌙,
Questionz!!1!!1:
1. Can the bsd cast become self aware in later chapters? Also when did they/what chapter/episode become self aware?
2. So the port mafia will still have a port mafia irl?
3. So if GL doesn't want to live longer will the bsd cast still live on? Though if they want to live longer will they also live on?
4. What if GL wants to go into Bsd Yokohama? Can they like explore there? Also can they only go to Bsd Yokohama or can they go to other places too? (Like: the airport, Where Agatha Christie office is, etc.)
Questionz 4 ya:
1. Do you also post on AO3?
2. Btw wdym people ain't interested at you? Ngl I am interested onto knowing more Abt u!
Opinionz/feedbacks?:
I read your new post "Reading chapters from 105-117" and "Few words" they are so good! It literally put me into a good mood after the chapter- and Kunikida...erm- anyways- Your grammar/english improved!!! Atleast I think so-
I also saw your new blog and ASKQUWNPVIPQHDPQNS I didn't read genshin lore much but your post in the blog made me more interested than the other genshin stories lol
1. Yes, they can. They can become self-aware after multiple appearances in manga/anime. For example, right now, Agatha Christie isn't self-aware, despite appearing in official media two times. And Bram became self-aware later, then other characters.
Most of the characters became self-aware after Episode 37 (Last episode of Season 3) and somewhere during Skyfall chapters. (74-77)
2. Yes. They want to "rebuild" the Port Mafia. But more in a way of shady protectors.
3. If GL won't live on, BSD Cast will choose to grew old and gray. At the end only Lovecraft, Bram and Fyodor will remain.
4. Yes, they can explore. Right now, they can visit all Yokohama locations (including airport), Meursault, Sky Casino, Bram's Castle (if it wasn't destroyed). In a future, after Agata became self-aware, GL can visit her office.
1. I have an AO3 account, but I don't post anything from BSD Self-Aware AU on it. I only post AU related fics only in this blog.
2. Well, thanks. Hm... I guess, I can share some little facts about me.
- I like cats.
- I like cinnamon.
- I have known about BSD for a few years, but wasn't interested in getting into the manga or anime. And then I saw screenshots with Fyodor Dostoevsky (one of my most favorite authors in real life).
- My dumbest reason for pulling the character in Genshin - Neuvillette was voiced by Ray Chase. I didn't care, how strong Neuvillette is. Moreover, I wasn't looking at posts or guides that were created during his first banner. I didn't even do his trial run or watched his demo.
- I like doing Color by Number paintings.
_________
I am so happy, that you liked the last two fics. And it makes me even more happy, that you think, that my English and grammar improved. I will try to improve them further.
_________
Glad, that you found interest in Tired Creator AU. Hope, you will enjoy next posts.
I already have some ideas for the next post.

BSD episode Preview Spoilers (?)
I just saw the new episode preview and never in my life had i thought that i would breakdown a 30 seconds clip to an extent of deriving a theory out of it…. But hear me out!!!
The sword that Fukuzawa oh so dashingly pulled out of his own body is the time-space sword - the one weapon that had saved Fukuchi's ass all this while (the solid plot-armour he banked on) - that is now in Fukuzawa's hands!!!
What i'm trying to say is, Fukuzawa can end this whole fight by killing Fukuchi from the past and it would resolve this whole fight!!!
These few seconds cued me in for that:
Tumblr media
Fukuzawa clearly intended to deal a killing blow to Fukuchi then and there, but then he was surprised for a split second… his focus was shaken there when he was supposed to finish the swing and end it there…
And then we see the flashback of the two fuku's younger days
There surely must be some mechanism behind the Time-space sword. Maybe for the wielder the time stops and then they can access to the past and all the future outcomes and then make the optimal choice, like Alcott's ability but not needing to be in a closed room.
If this actually happens, the whole fight up to this point can be reversed by strategically putting the sword in the past to either stop an event or to kill Fukuchi earlier only. Though i wonder if that could cause a problem since Fukuchi would have the sword in past
But the possibility of this happening is high because that's what Fukuchi did in the very first fight with Akutagawa and Atsushi, where they had almost won but were defeated by the ability of the sword…
The restriction of till what time in past can the sword go or how much distance the space aspect could cover would build the story from then on…
But this would be enough to end this season on a uphill note if not completely resolve this conflict…
Any thoughts?

/// BSD Spoilers up to Ch. 110
So I realized something interesting about the teaser for the next episode of the anime: Dazai getting shot by Chuuya is very explicitly shown in the preview.
At first I thought "Oh yeah they just wanted fans to know that we'd be getting to chapter 109 in this episode already". But then I realized that it's actually super weird that they would "spoil" the big twist (Dazai's potential death) in the teaser already. That feels a little bit like if had chosen to show a clip of Chuuya drowning in episode eight (which they obviously didn't - it was supposed to be The Big Thing of that episode, it was meant to shock anime-only fans and leave them with a cliff hanger that would have them come back the following week). So why did they make the decision to show (what one would assume) The Big Thing of episode 10?
And it's not even a subtle hint that only manga readers would pick up on. We flat-out see Chuuya shoot Dazai in the head in 4K colorized version.
People have theorized that episode 11 would actually wrap up this arc by showing unreleased manga chapters, which is a theory I'm inclined to support (what's the alternative? Storm Bringer crammed into 20minutes? Chapter 110 but it's just Aya falling for 15 minutes? A beach episode?).
However, one twenty-minute episode feels way to short for wrapping up an arc as big as this. We literally have four different POVs to follow simultaneously - five if you count SKK and Fyodor/Sigma in Mersault as seperate POVs. Half of the cast is currently bleeding out somewhere. So we'd have to assume that the last episode is gonna be significantly longer (probably fourty minutes, if you want a more or less clean wrap up off all the loose ends). Which in turn leaves us with the question - why not just do an episode 12 and thus bring this season to a standard BSD length?
But let's assume this issue gets fixed somehow.
Narratively I think it would make sense to leave episode 10 with the absolute lowest point of our protagonists. Which I guess you could say it does but that leaves 110 and Aya's little Beastzai moment out. It would be odd to start the episode with Aya jumping because her POV needs to be the first one resolved (since Bram controls the vampirism). It also wouldn't fit with the assumed episode's theme of regaining the upper hand in the battle/ with things looking better for our protagonists.
In conclusion, episode 10 will likely feature Aya's jump as The Big Thing for anime-onlys to be shocked about and in episode 11 we'll get unreleased content and the big finale of this arc.
Is this a theory I personally like? Not really because it leaves the possibility of an incredibly rushed ending to this overall fairly good arc. It would also take away at least a couple of months' excitement for new manga chapters away since these would already be featured in the anime.
But I think it is the best option we are left with. Unless Bones pulls a Haha Jk on us and there is no 11th episode.
I don't usually post rambles like these and my thoughts are probably all over the place so forgive me if this is too confusing T_T
