Mea Maxima Culpa

He knows Izzy has some shit in his childhood, just like himself and Ed and Jim (and honestly sort of most people, he's coming to find.)

But it's still a sharp shock for a joking comment about him having the crew clean the jam room in the wrong way (meant completely in jest, to Stede the idea of a 'right way' to put away instruments and maybe dust is actually ridiculous) to be met with a confused and hurt look. Then, a soft 'tell me how; I'll redo it myself,' and he sees the start of tears in Izzy's eyes.

It's different, he explains later, when the tears have subsided, after he's let himself break down into Stede's arms. When it's someone close to him, someone who says they love him. No matter what kind of love, whether Stede, Ed, his mum. It hurts because he presumes if he's still loved, then he's pleasing them, that he knows what they want and when, to keep them happy.

"It's what I'm good at," his voice and his hands shake, and Stede can't hold him any tighter, but he tries anyway. "I can do better for you."

It breaks Stede's heart, and he assures him over and over it truly was a joke. Had he realized the pain it would cause he never would have even thought to say it.

Izzy melts into his arms even more in relief and laughs nervously. He didn't realize and he feels silly now for having assumed Stede was serious, he says, but his eyes are welling up again.

"I'll never make that joke again, and I'll make it up to you however I can," Stede murmurs it against his skin after a gentle kiss. "You do more than perfectly by me, by Ed. You don't have to worry about it like that, I promise. You're enough as you are."

Then they're both crying and Ed walks in only to immediately panic and tear up too.

After a tearful talk, they'll let themselves giggle about the scene. All of them messy with tears and sniffles and utterly exhausted; what if the crew had seen? The confusion and fear that might have reasonably caused!

Ed is the one cleaned up enough to head back out and let the crew know Olu is in charge, Buttons and Jim assisting. Should a serious emergency arise, then come get one of the captains. Otherwise, consider them and Izzy out of the office for the day.

He returns and they treat the afternoon as if it's nearly night. They bathe and dress in nightclothes (Stede in his nightshirt, Ed in his pink robe, and Izzy in a robe of his own, black velvet) and fall into bed.

Stede knows that to some, like the numerous Badminton bastard brothers, it would be seen as an overreaction, dramatic.

But it's tiring, working through things like that; things the Badminton family would surely sweep under a rug rather than ever face and deal with. So they'd never get it.

I'd like to introduce you all to a fun game I've been playing recently which I've been calling 'strap in lads'

It's basically where you try and find the best ao3 tags when you don't have the motivation to actually read any fics:

First off, you want to find a fandom/ship/well used tag (preferably with over 10 pages)

Pick a random page (may involve some skipping forward and backward)

Scroll away

Be sure to look carefully because there could be gold that you miss due to careless scrolling

Screenshot any gems to look back on or throw on your nearest site like I will

Bonus: you can enlist a fellow reader and have a little competition on who finds the best/weirdest tag

Some tips:

If you have a particular aversion to certain tags, filter them out to avoid the risk of any related chaos tags.

Pick a fandom that is known for it's... interesting fan base if you want to play easy mode.

Don't send fandom specific tags to friends without the context of the fandom (I sent my friend Alex a taskmaster tag that's just 'Alex staring at people like a creep' and forgot to tell her it wasn't targeted at her)

Fuzzverse: the Cast (version 1.0)

Writing this down makes me realize that this story has way more characters then I have originally anticipated, you know? Anyway, let’s meet the cast, properly. At least I think I haven’t forgot anyone this time around. 

Main Cast. Typical habitat - strike cruiser “Polaris”

Alexander Petrovich Ivanov, more commonly known as Sanya - ex-guardsman, passionate chef and sort of a main protagonist. Was dragged into a series of outrageous adventures and exploits by a Lord of Change and seems to be having a lot of fun, actually. Has a reward on his head put out by the Inquisition, to whom he is knows as Alexander the Accursed. To be fair, his Wanted posters make his life sound far spicier, than it actually is. 

Lacedrace, also known as Hopespark and Crystal Sage. And like a thousand other names. Said Lord of Change and a somewhat mysterious being with layers upon layers of hidden agendas, some of which seem to be centered around Sanya. Optimistic. Ruthless. Nerd. 

Bazgrog and Gromdak, a pair of Ork kommandos who stuck around for dinner and then another one, and another one, and another one... Bazgrog prefers stealth, while Gromdak is more fond of disguises, both are truly outstanding in what they are doing. 

Filit and Lady - when everything in your life goes wrong, sometimes you end up attempting a very questionable psyker thing. Once in a while it ends up in you acting like a tyranid for a while and later escaping after wrestling your mind free and taking a Carnifex with you and naming it Lady. And then tagging along with some weird space criminals. 

Charlotte Illvia - Imperial Scion of Knightly House Illvia, who miraculously survived the attack on her homeworld and was rescued by an Alpha Legionnaire, alongside her mother’s wrecked Knight. This started her own journey across the stars alongside, eventually ending in her, alongside her two adoptive dads, joining with Sanya and the gang.

Adder later named Nidhogg - Knight, who passed to Charlotte from her mother. Wrecked during the assault of their homeworld it was later reforged and remade into an even more imposing war machine, while retaining it’s heart and hundreds of generations of Scions inhabiting it’s Throne Mechanicum.

Alpharius more commonly known as Al, but also Alric - an Alpha Legionnaire, who was mentioned above and became first of Charlotte’s adoptive parents. Initially a member of a vaguely chaos-affiliated warband, his current persona is that of a Blackshield, coming from a destroyed chapter. Tries his best at parenting, runs a spy network and has a pet tortoise.

“Billy” less commonly known as Benedict Ignatius Lavrent - a tech-priest and sole survivor of an expedition went wrong, who became Charlotte’s second adoptive parent. Lacks much of his memory that he have not deemed crucial, while trying to survive a harsh world he got stranded on, and thus wiped from cogitators. Might also have something to do with C’toaster.

C’toaster also referred to as Blinky, Lad and Void - an eccentric shard of an eccentric Star God, who is slightly out there and is stuck in what can only be described as a toaster. A sole reason Billy’s expedition ended in shambles and slowly deteriorating beast of once formidable power. Now sleeps most of the time and trundles around biting ankles. And yet the trace of the true self exists in the false self. 

Oona once upon the time also known as the Eleventh, the Fey and the Queen of Monsters - she just wanted to live happily, hunt giant monsters and do gun trick shots all day, but was forced to be a Primarch and it haven’t ended well, so now there is this 10 feet of depression, emotional baggage and awkward social situations. She gets better over time, but not much. 

Por'Ui Vash'ya M'yen - water caste diplomat whose mission went awry and who was more or less shoved into a battlesuit and forced to fight for her life when all the lines of defense failed and she was among the least few surviving passengers of the ship. Upon the ship discovery by Sanya and the gang proceeded to attack them as well in fear, but after initial misunderstanding got adopted into the family. 

Praetorian - Al’s pet tortoise named as such for being well fortified and very yellow. Unfortunately does lack the iconic moustache. 

Sosig - space corgi, no more and no less. Following a short, but memorable visit of the gang to Fenris have decided to join the crew. Also this is meta, but Sosig is my attempt to convey the original Russian “Сосисочка”, the diminutive variant of the word “sausage”.

“Death Song”- a child of grief, desperation and quite frankly obscene amounts of questionable genecraft she is the last apex predator to ever emerge from the long gone jungles of Arcadia. Oona’s only comment? “Oh, she is just like me, you know”.

Supporting Cast. Typical Habitat - varied

“Ivan” - a lad, a boy, a tzaangor and a little helper. Assistant to Lacedrace, loves books and very excited about really big guns. 

An’Hangra - the tiniest Bloodthirster, your friendly gym bro and also a dog herder. If she is not hitting the gym, she is probably hitting someone with that axe. Vice-president of Lotara Sarrin’s Unofficial Fan-Club. Will tell you about her dogs. Also will should you pictures of every one of them. There are just so many dogs...

Balthrag - cottagecore incarnate and spiced up with some decay, rebirth and tasty soup with flesh-eating amoebas. Spends her days trying to take care of several very active nurglings, doing her best to make Isha’s stay more pleasant and trying to convince Mortarion to try a silly straw for his poison cup.

Shanakay - four-armed purple daemon with an unhealthy obsession with perfection and art. As a main occupation - singer, but as a main job she is trying to don’t go mad dealing with Fulgrim, N’kari and a damn mess third legion devolved into. Hangs out with Guilliman from time to time. 

Iris, Azalea and Nightshade - Shanakay’s daemonette handmaidens. Musicians by trade. Really desperate to fix Shanakay’s love life or more accurately the lack of one. 

Inquisitor Guy, currently unnamed - a daemonhunter from the Ordo Malleus dispatched to track down and banish the Crystal Sage, following her latest appearances in the realspace. Credit given where it is due, as far as Inquisitors go, this one is a pretty decent person. 

Arcadian Wardens - I mean, yes, they are all dead and gone, but still deserve a mention. Wardens were Oona’s Legion back when she was still employed as a questionably useful Primarch. Most notably represented by First Captain/Legion Master Madb. 

Alternate Cast. Typical Habitat - FantasyHammer Universe. Work in Progress

Squeak - alternate Lacedrace - a little meek skaven, who have escaped the Under-empire and started anew above the ground. Not without trouble, but finding a new place and a new family in the end, assisted by a kislevite footsoldier she met on the road. Always wears a colorful babushka shawl, covering stubs of broken horns. 

Moruhin and Ruin - alternate Shanakay - flamboyant and arrogant high elf alongside her winged, scaled and very, very mean dragon buddy. Moruhin was a child to a respectable family before being disowned and flying off into sunset - free at last to go and live this dragon scholar life she always wanted. With a side of calamity incarnate, so Ruin won’t get too bored. 

Hilde - alternate An’Hangra - merry and joyful warrior on her way across the world to study the arts of blade and face off against formidable opponents. Hilde is of mixed descent between kislevites and southern norscans and while being familiar with the Pantheon, she seems to be largely indifferent to them. Sole exception being her admiration of Valkia.  

??? - alternate Oona - scaled, clawed and fanged, wandering the endless jungles of Lustria alongside other Lizardmen, Amazons and towering beasts. Unbothered. Moisturized. Happy. In her line. Focused. Flourishing. Probably drinking buddies with Nakai.

How much hints around RTs and Wilbur's implied relationships are you planning? I only spotted to but I'm also kinda dumb and maybe forgot another couple. (In my head when I first seen Dan thinking about Wil's letters, I thought 'when will a letter showing up saying Wilbur died' even though I don't think that will happen) (I am bad at english)

you clever bastards keep saying things that are impossible to respond to without directly confirming or denying if said thing is going to happen or not, so i am very pointedly and intentionally refusing to acknowledge the last part of this ask.

first thing: Dan and Wilbur. we'll get a few more hints going forward but it's essentially: Wilbur was the first person in Dan's life after [SPOILERS] his entire family died. so he gets very attached in a short period, especially with as young as he is (almost everyone in this au matches up with the IRLs CC age, Dan would've been 20 and Wilbur 19) Wilbur's a total hotshot so of course Dan gets a tiny crush, but then Wilbur has to leave before anything develops and they only interact through letters after that, so of course Dan is left with unresolved feelings.

actually, now's a GREAT time to bring up the pre-canon timeline!

obviously a few things are missing because they haven’t been revealed, but hopefully this helps visualize it better! but again. wilbur will continue to be brought up, we just can neither confirm or deny how much closure you (or dan, for that matter) will get.

HOWEVER. LOL. the Ambiguous or Implied Relationship(s) tag isn't even there for RTSoot, it's there because Dan and Kevin are. literally sleeping together. they kiss. in chapter 10. but it's unclear of how far that's gonna go/if it'll stick around/etc so we're not tagging them as a pairing. not to mention all the other ""questionable"" moments between all 5 of them in this au.

we decided when developing this fic that revealing any end game pairings from the get go would be putting our cards on the table, hence that disclaimer at the beginning like "you signed up for whatever that tags ends up turning into" basically

last little thing, the Minor or Background Relationship(s) tag will probably get added... next chapter, actually? they weren't originally planned but there's at least two ships that naturally formed between characters that aren't any of the lads. so look forward to that! :P

//Honestly this is only half of the muses that I've considered over the past 4 years. I forgot to mention it in tags, but I was thinking of doing small drabbles with each of them, testing out how well they'd do in writing, and if I could portray their characters justice (I hope you won't mind).

Pibbles (Planet Panic)

It was a bright, hectic morning on Planet Panic; Giant robots and kaiju run amok, disguised aliens roam the streets, sinister floating pizzas threaten local resturaunts… and one young lad eagerly awaits it all. Making their way outside Zeus Guy's house, Pibbles got a good look at the surrounding trouble-filled town, and stimmed with glee. "Yeah, another day, another good deed!" They exclaimed, before the two buckled up in Zeus' police car.

"Mission mission mission yeah! Mission mission mission yeah!" Pibbles chanted in excitement, still brewing with the energy of an imaginative adolescent. As the two drove off towards their next mission, Pibbles had a thought they wanted to share with him.

"C'mooon Zeus, let me pick the next mission… I wanna put out an entire housefire! Or maybe I could help an alien with directions to their home planet! Or even reunite a retired band group!"

"You never take me to do any exciting missions, and I wanna break the mold for once! Pleeeaase?"

YAY-OK (Rocket Monkeys)

The vast regions of space. Endless boundaries, and infinite possibilities… And yet amidst it all, he had to be stuck on a rocketship with two monkeys, Gus and Wally. YAY-OK had just woken up from his battery-recharging nap, and neutrally decided to make breakfast for the two, waiting for them to arrive in the kitchen.

"Ah, good morning, monkeyz! I made you two some toazt in preperation to the day ahead." As YAY-OK spoke, he gave both each a plate of slightly-burnt toast with butter on top, and a glass of water to drink. As they began to eat their meals, YAY-OK left the room in attempt to get some time to himself, just because he hasn't gotten a lot with his time on this ship.

"Sigh, thoze two may be my friendz, but they can be so annoying zometimes…" He mumbled, cracking open one of the ship's windows for some fresh space air. He thought back to all the times he was tossed about by them. He didn't mind being around them much, but the common objectification hasn't been at all ideal. Surely the rest of YAY-OK's days won't be spent having to deal with those two moonbound marmosets, right? Right?

Peppa Pig, and her brother George

Miss Rabbit, still tied around her countless jobs, is serving popsicles under the noon spring weather. Peppa, spotting her, decided to walk up to her direction, and even invited her brother George to come along with her. "Come on, George; Let's go get an ice lolly from Miss Rabbit." Approaching the mobile stand, Peppa walked up to Miss Rabbit, and asked for a popsicle each for the two of them.

"Hello, Miss Rabbit. May we have two ice lollys, please?" Miss Rabbit, always charmed by Peppa's wholesome presence, reached into the cart's freezer, and gave one popsicle each to the two of them for free; One cherry-flavored for Peppa, and one orange-flavored in the shape of a dinosaur for George.

"Dynsor!" George exclaimed, upon receiving his popsicle.

"🐷 Yes, George, it is a dinosaur!" Peppa replied, giggling and approving of George's fixated imagination. Truly, this was a fun, good day for Peppa and George.

Purpose?

To increase the amount of and diversify fanworks in the Black Clover fandom featuring canon characters!!

But we have a general Black Clover Week, so why should we participate in this one?

Good question!! The main purpose of this week is to showcase Tabata’s cast of characters through various prompts that are not relegated to the just safe-for-tunglr dot hell environment. In fact, this week will not have a dedicated blog that will be collecting these works. Instead, these prompts are free for anyone to use and publish on their preferred social media, archives, and landing sites (Tunglr, Twitter, AO3, Livejournal, etc). Because it is a non-traditional, non-monetized, and free-to-opt-in casual event, there will be no mods but moi, no advertising of paid services, or participant restrictions.

To reiterate, this event will solely focus on canon characters, and will NOT encourage Original Characters and Self-Inserts as the center of the fancontent. This an opportunity for people who’d like to explore canon characters, dynamics, and relationships to come forth and get their creative juices flowing. Crackshipping between canon actors is encouraged, as well as darkfic, horrorfic, genre-specific work, and other both safe and not-safe-for-tunglr dot hell tropes.

So how does it work?

The release date for works is from Monday, the 23rd of August through Sunday, the 29th of August! 

Since this is a create-and-explore-at-will event, creators will be encouraged to write, draw, and create freely. Readers and viewers will be encouraged to engage with whatever content they feel comfortable with.

In order to ensure that both creators and readers/viewers are making informed decisions about what they engage with, all creators must include all triggers, genre specifications, ships, and warnings in their posts so that people are free to opt out of engaging with the work. 

All safe-for-tunglr fanfiction should be under a read-more. Safe-for-tunglr fanart does not need to be under a read-more. 

Not-safe-for-tunglr fanwork should be LINKED to whatever landing site the content is being hosted on (Twitter, AO3, etc). This includes both fanfiction and fanart. I don’t want anyone getting their blog banned because they forgot tunglr dot hell no longer supports 6k pwp between Vanica and Undine the water spirit.

And last but not least - if you are engaging with any of the fancontent, reblog, reblog, reblog! Share the work with your followers. Send all the love to the creators for crafting their masterpieces!!

What can I contribute?

Fanart (standalones, comic strips, etc.), fanfiction (one-shots, multichapter, etc.), fanmixes, gifsets, graphics, meme collections, fanvids, whatever your heart desires! Go wild!!!

Can I create/write not-safe-for-tunglr dot hell content?

Yes!!!  All creators must include all triggers, genre specifications, ships, and warnings in their posts so that people are free to opt out of engaging with their work. All not-safe-for-tunglr fanfiction, fanart, and multimedia must be linked to a separate landing site (Twitter, AO3, etc.)!!!

And I reiterate, tag all triggers!!! All of them!!! I mean it, thotties!!!

What does (X) prompt mean?

Each day has two prompts!! You can either pick a prompt OR you can combine prompts in different ways.

For example, for Hero/Villain swap, you can do a traditional swap between a villain and a hero through artwork and other multimedia, OR, you can explore hero-to-bastard and bastard-to-hero dynamics through fanfiction and other multimedia. Let your imagination take you where you want to go with each prompt!! If you want to explore both curses and ancestors in the same fanart/fanfic, then be my guest!!

Both Canonverse and AU content is acceptable! Creativity is key! Have fun!!!

Can I crackship/multiship/harem/OT3/polyam the characters?

Absolutely!!! The only stipulation is that the characters must ALL be from the Black Clover CANON. If you want to write a throuple between Charmy, Henry, and Yami, then heck yeah!!! If you are writing a polycule with Vanessa, Finral, Nozel, and an OC, I will have to respectfully ask you not to participate in the week as the focus of the week are the characters of the Black Clover canon, and the purpose of the week is to increase and diversify fanworks that explore canon characters. Thank you for understanding!!!

During release week, use the general “black clover” tag to share your work with the wider Black Clover fandom on tunglr. You can use whatever other tags you fancy. You can participate as much as you want!! Maybe you only wanna create for one day? Cool! Maybe you’re an overachieving corporate clown insomniac like myself, and wanna create for every day of the week? Go for it!!!

Fic Wrap Up.

This is going to be my own fic wrap up, my first one ever because this was the birth of my Ao3 account, so all of my fics are from this year. I’ll try to keep things concise, but it’ll still be pretty long. I will do this in the form of a Read More after the first few fics. There are over 90, I’ll try to go alphabetically. 

All of them are from the same fandom, BnHA, so that’s nice. More gen fics, less romance. Most of them are for series, events, other people’s aus - and I’ll make sure to share all of that when I share each fic, especially because some of the events are probably repeats and this is a little bit like free marketing [only tagging them once because that would get obnoxious, especially for the weekly event things I did]. Other than that, I hope you all enjoy and may 2021 suck slightly less.

First Flush, my Cadet!Fox/Intern!Riyo AU, didn't get a shout-out, but as my lunchtime, riverside walks have been occupied with little else, I’ll jump at the opportunity to share a few paragraphs from Chapter 1 (of 2).

Senatorial intern Riyo Chuchi is used to being fobbed off. When Cadet 1010, agenda item 2.2 in today’s Security Committee meeting, arrives fives hours early, Riyo gets her first taste of authority. 

The premise: we find Riyo and Fox circa 24 BBY. All is proceeding according to Palpatine’s plan, but the Republic is a little more wisened up to the fact that the Confederacy of Independent Systems is amassing an offensive army in a sovereign-rights hat. Personnel options are being explored in the (likely) event of a future conflict ...

“Now, what is the protocol for audiences with the Supreme Chancellor?” the Vice Chair prompted.

“I stand just behind your right, only speak when spoken to, and only minute what you explicitly request for the record,” Riyo replied.

“Very good.”

The lanthanide doors parted promptly when they reached the Executive Suite, and the Supreme Chancellor’s silky voice wafted out. He had company. The Vice Chair’s pace noticeably quickened.

“Ah, Major Melke,” the Chancellor began, once Riyo and the Vice Chair had crossed the threshold into his office. “May I introduce Vice Chair Mas Amedda, of Champala.”

Next to His Excellency was a tall Umbaran wearing thickly tinted spectacles. His hairline was severe; he gave the impression of a mannequin whittled from bone. On his other side stood a young man, slightly shorter but much healthier-looking, arms clasped rigidly behind his back. Human, as far as Riyo could judge—or, had learnt not to, in the hybrid hive of Coruscant; deeply handsome, regardless. Both strangers were wearing the same martial uniform, one shade off Republic grey, with a black-and-white sigil stamped on their upper right arms. The Umbaran’s shoulders bore metal epaulettes, while the human’s were perfectly distinguished without them.

Riyo’s eyes found the carpet before anyone could catch her staring.

Further introductions passed over her head. Nothing whatsoever about the young man. Just hyperlane stuff. Apologies about a missed memo and misaligned chronos. Kamino was mentioned—one of the entities involved in the security tender process and seeking Republic recognition. Riyo gathered that these visitors were its representatives, and they had arrived rather early for the committee meeting to which they’d been invited. She listened for Amedda’s prompt which never came. More apologies were exchanged. 

“Think nothing of it, Major. I’m grateful for the opportunity to meet the lad,” the Chancellor said, affably. “And perhaps he might like to meet one of our interns? Miss Chuchi?”

Eeee thank you for asking for Styles dear @aragarna !!😍 you know me, I always wanna talk about my sailor husband.🤣🤣🤣

One aspect I love about them:

His desire to encourage those he cares about. And help when he can, even to the point of self sacrifice. Example: offering to take over for Horatio in laying out the gunpowder so Horatio could make a run for it. Knowing full well that Wolf would probably catch Styles and gun him down. 🥲

One aspect I wish more people understood about him:

So I have been SO blessed by the Hornblower crew here on Tumblr. On AO3 it's different and I still don't know why....

But you all have understood Styles and how he is not a burden or a nuisance to Horatio and the others. You beautiful lads see his worth and his value and so I'm just gonna take this question as a moment to say once again THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for seeing Styles as I see him.💖💖💖💖

One or more headcannons I have about this character:

Styles has self-esteem issues due to his childhood. The only father he had beat him constantly and told him he was nothing. While his mother tried to counter this with telling him otherwise when she could, it still imprinted on his heart. He also struggles with feeling replaceable or left behind which is why he says he can do things he really can't just so he isn't left behind by those he lives and admires.

Styles loves dogs🤭(I feel like he would be really good with dogs idk)

I've discussed this hc with @twice-told-tales before I think:

Styles had a little brother; I never gave him a name. But that little brother died somehow when Styles was around 11 or 12 years old. Perhaps by plague or some common child illness or worse. But Styles blamed himself for not saving his little brother somehow.

One character I love seeing them interact with:

William Bush. Hands down. 👌

The energy of "I love you as a friend and I will NEVER tell you. I'm gonna be a bitch to you always" is so good.🤣🤣🤣

One character I wish they would interact more with:

Archie...I just...guh. so there's that first interaction of "Belay that, Styles!" Which I love endlessly. But then every interaction after that one was 'warmer' if that makes any sense. I just wanted more of Archie saying "Yes, Styles, that's right." In the kindest tone I heard from Archie when it came to the men under him. It was born of friendship I think. Something happened that we didn't see where Styles helped Archie somehow or vice versa. I don't know. I just wish they had had more interaction and time together.

One or more headcannons I have that involve them and one other character:

Styles sees Oldroyd as a little brother to try and ease his guilt over losing his own little brother. It's why he teases Oldroyd so much, and also encourages him in The Frogs and the Lobsters when Oldroyd is struggling.💖💞

Also, nothing bad happened to Oldroyd, my hc is that he was transferred to a new ship. And that Styles, Matthews, and him are reunited on shore leave at some point.💞💖
