The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence started when three friends banded together to dress as nuns and recite a loving and forgiving liturgy to drive homophobic evangelists off of Castro Street in San Francisco. It worked. The organization quickly expanded as an advocacy group for gay rights.

When asked why they are dressed as nuns, the answer was, "We do all that traditional nuns have done for centuries. Our look might be unique, but our ministry is common. We serve our community. We have raised lots of money for AIDS and other social causes. We visit the sick, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and sometimes disrobe the clothed! We are 21st Century queer nuns."

The Sisters primarily made a name for themselves through their AIDS activism. In 1982, The Sisters published Play Fair! which was the first humorous and easy-to-understand sexual health and safety pamphlet specifically intended for gay men.

The Sisters also used their presence to shame homophobic public figures, performing "exorcisms" on Phyllis Schlaffey, Jerry Fallwell, and Pope John Paul II, as well as on the steps of the U.S. House of Representatives.

In 2023, The Los Angeles Dodgers caused a huge controversy by selecting the Sisters to receive a "community hero award" on their Pride Night game (again, the Sisters are a legendary charity group that has literally saved lives), but then they gave in to right-wing pressure and cancelled it. Eventually, they realized how badly they had fucked up and re-invited the Sisters to their game.

The sisters remain active today with many chapters across the U.S. and Canada. Membership is open to all genders and sexualities.

He and his allies, like DONALD TRUMP, and Lindsey Graham have operated under the noses of the Department of Homeland Security for years. I know this because I turned them all in!

So zealous are these spooky strange persons to live where they do not belong they are willing to sacrifice millions of lives in Iran and Israel and then waltz in during a future Trump effort and plop right down. One For Israel is affiliated with the notorious disgusting Westboro Baptist Church, the LDS, the Seventh Day Adventists, Jerry Fallwell (AKA "JD Vance") and the Jehohah's Witlesses, all determined to show the world they just do not care.

I have asked the people of Iran who are clearly being duped, especially by the Cylon Imperious Leader, the Assholla who knows full well who the Mormons are and is using their terror tunnels, to stop all combat with Israel in any way, and meet with the PM of Israsel to discuss a non-agression pact and save their lives while Joe Biden rids the world of fundamentalist Christian. Please support this initiative. The people of Iran have nothing- no water, food, very few civil rights, work, or prospects so long as One For Israel operates.

Now we cover a concept from the Bhagavad Gita called “the field and its knower”, the kshetra and the kshetragna. The objective of the study of the khestra is to force the mind to get as close to the doorstep of the Brahman as it can get:

The black scary emptiness of the Brahman is the screen upon which life takes place. To be able to watch life and know it without being trapped by it is the goal. Some think they can’t enjoy any longer. Try masturbating once, eat when the body is hungry, drink when it is thirsty or hold back when one sees a sugar on the street. Try to avoid shivering or prevent happiness by the pool during midsummer, none of these are possible. So a wise soul allows the equipment to do what it is going to do without forcing enjoyment in or displeasure out.

One who is attuned to such a way of life would witness what those fuckups in the Republican Party and those very strange persons in Texas were up to and experience profound revulsion at the level of their evil and react. In retrospect, I think it is important to cover Elvira: Mistress of the Dark.

Elvira's arc in this film, again, is an almost beat-for-beat mirror of Lydia's in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the difference being that the film opens on Elvira quitting her career when it threatens her identity, only reviving it at the end when her work can once more align with who she is. Contrast this with Lydia, whose work is drowning her and yet she clings to it under the mistaken belief that it is her identity. Only through quitting is she able to find happiness.

The inciting incident in Elvira's film is the death of her great aunt Morgana Talbot, allowing her to quit her job and move to Fallwell, Massachusetts on a whim for the reading of the will. Compare with Charles' death prompting Lydia and the family to return to Winter River.

Other elements of note: Mistress of the Dark has multiple dream sequences and ends on a big song and dance number. The plot revolves around how Elvira's promiscuous, problematic behavior shakes up the puritanical town of Fallwell, culminating in a literal witch hunt wherein the locals attempt to burn Elvira at the stake.

I believe the social commentary of this reference speaks for itself.

While we're talking about 80's movie references, I'm going to go ahead and slip this comparison in here.

"I love a good dream sequence."

"As the World Falls Down" is a famous dream sequence, and also one of David Bowie's most popular and well-known love ballads. Labyrinth was released two years prior to Beetlejuice and the two are constantly compared to one another as beloved 80's coming-of-age films.

In Labyrinth, the Goblin King Jareth casts himself as the villain of Sarah's fantasies because he is in love with her.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Theory

Lydia is an unreliable narrator. Winona Ryder's personal headcanon that Lydia is a spinster by choice waiting in that attic is true. The film begins with her in the window in the house on the hill before blipping her over to New York suspiciously, and ends with her presumably in that same room. Astrid and Rory and Richard aren't real. The events of the film are all Betelgeuse indulging his wife's desire for a child, something he can't give her.

But he's sick and has to make his jokes, so he makes sure to remind her at the end with grandbabyjuice that her desire for a normal life is misguided and ridiculous, and she's stuck with him. Till death do we part, babes.

Cliche? Absolutely. Is that BJ's brand? Absolutely. The more I think about it, the more this is the most valid interpretation of the plot.
