Alexis Sara's Top 10 Most Anticipated Games Of 2024
We're about to enter 2024 and with that we have all the lists, lists I am not immune to making because I slowly build them up all year. Last year I played a fuck load of games and so this year I wanted to talk about 10 games I think look really fucking cool that are coming out in the next year or two. Some of these games are likely to release in 2025 instead but it'll be fun to see if they remain on the list next year then. I mostly just wanted to spotlight some art that looks cool to me outside of the context of a Sapphic Games Guide or a Review and maybe get others on the hype train with me. This list is not in order and just 10 games I think look like they could have an impact on me, I may not even buy every game on this list but there the 10 that look like I am most likely to check out.
Tumblr media
Gales Of Nayeli
So this is one of two games on the list I've already purchased. I backed the kickstarter of the game a while back and I thought "it looks alright and when I asked if there was gonna be any sapphic content the creator told me in depth what content he had already made so sure I'll back it. What was more if a thank you for being so kind and responsive so fast has turned into my most hype game of the year. Blindcoco and me have become friends over time so I am biased but I was actually sold on the game before me and him became buddy buddy when I played the demo and saw the amazing work that went into it. Then the extremally positive response from him and the community towards my desire to focus in on women and sapphic women only added to my excitement for the game.
The game genuinely seems to be raising the bar for SRPGs and really feels like it is a step above Fire Emblem and not an emulation of Fire Emblem. I loved the demo and the concepts in the game so much it inspired me to start working on my own SRPG studios game knowing what is possible at the high end of investment in the system can really be something special and really cool. I love that there is a focus on trying to cast voice actors who match ethnicity to the diverse cast, I love that there is a wide range of diversity in the revealed cast, I love the amount of queer women I am aware of in the game, I love the animations and sprite work, I love the gameplay, I am really really excited about this game and I think this game has a high shot at being one of my favorite games.
Tumblr media
Fields Of Mistria
I make fun of farming sims a little on my lists and stuff but only because I actually love farming sims especially in concept. This game probably has my favorite art style of the whole lot of games today. It's lovely 90s anime style sprite work is just AHHHHHHHHHH so good. I do in fact want to kiss the women in this game very badly and I would enjoy playing the game for the sake of dating them alone.
Tumblr media
Rune Factory: Dragon
Let's bang out the second farming sim while we're at it. We don't know a bunch about this game but it really just has to do two things for me to be into it. One, let you be gay like the newest RF and Story of Season games already let you do and Two, keep up the art direction and bam, I'm in. My biggest problem with the last Rune Factory game was that the art style made every woman look like a 12 year old and not in the like chibi story of seasons way like they just looked like they were kids. This however, has a much better set of art direction and it makes me think there might actually be women I'd want to gay marry.
Tumblr media
Mahou Senshi Cosplay Club
I really love Behold's previous game Chroma Squad but when I got this demo I had no idea they were the Chroma Squad people. The mix of dress up and RPG gameplay is a dream come true kind of game and the outfit customization is leagues beyond a game like Fashion Dreamer despite likely being made on a much smaller budget. The PSX style graphics actually work here with them evoking nostalgic graphics while also not actually being restrained by a Playstation One's issues. I just really loved the process of making the outfit and character in this game and honestly that alone is a potential game seller. The gameplay element was solid and I really want to play more of this.
Tumblr media
Beastieball
BeastieBall seems to be a really fun take on the Monster Taming genre. Having the monster friends play a sport and naturally be inclined to play the sport makes for a very cute and wholesome premise to which you become more a coach than an owner to these little cuties. It's a pretty simple concept in the demo but it's promising and cute and I do like that the monsters you collect build relationships with each other, I think that is something really special and neat and something I'd like to see more monster tamers do.
Tumblr media
Love In A Bottle
There is a lot of nice looking visual novels coming out but Love In A Bottle is dating sim that is really capturing my eye. You play as a demon girl, bam okay I am sold. You date other monster girls okay I'm sold. And it's got more then the basic one outfit you expect from a standard visual novel dating sim type deal for characters that is yet another sold factor. It seems really cute, seems fun and I hope I can smooch all the women at once.
Tumblr media
Fantasy Life I
While I said we were done with farming sims, I didn't say we were done with sims as we have Level-5's Life Sim, Fantasy Life. I won't be buying the game if I can't be gay in it but I really loved the first Fantasy Life on the 3DS and I think if it can keep up the charm and fun of the original game and add a homosexual seasoning on top it'll be a perfect cute and fun time. I love the wide array of jobs and how these all build into each other, it's a very one of a kind experience and really fun.
Tumblr media
Princess Peach Showtime
This is the true triple A game of the list and the only one that has captivated me in all the shows of all the consoles and developers I've seen of late. Peach is barbie now and I am here for it, let her have a million jobs and have a game based around her doing these different roles and being an icon in each of them, sounds good, I'm in, it's a really cute and fun concept. It looks really fun and the art style looks great.
Tumblr media
Our Life Now and Forever
There is no other games like the Our Life games and getting to be sapphic in this one means I finally get to go ahead and experience the series I have been curious about for a while now. This game will let you be polyamarous which is the only game on this list I can say for sure will allow you to do that and that alone is something that would keep me engaged. However, getting to grow up with characters, change your pronouns, your name, anything about yourself as you do and having the characters change with you is amazing. I love the concept of this game and the wild reactivity the games demo has always provided just to a simple thing like me choosing to be trans in the childhood phase is amazing, it is truly such a considered and thoughtful game with such masterful crafting that the act one demo alone is probably worth money. So I did back this one on kickstarter as well so this is my other pick up.
Unlike other games on this list I am fairly confident this is a 2025 game and not a 2024 game but I want to talk about it now because people on the Patreon will be getting to play updated versions of the game over the course of the year akin to early access. I think the game is for sure worth a look.
Tumblr media
Izrand Allure
After playing the previous game in the series I am totally sold on wanting to experience Izrand Allure. Luxaren Allure was a really special experience I had this year finally checking out the game after I think years of putting it off and beating it I really want to play this follow up. This game seems far more in depth and far more artistically masterful then Luxaren as well so I really want to see everything this game has to offer. I love a good job system and this game boasts one. I really want to see this lesbian RPG and I hope I get a chance to play it very soon but obviously Unity the dev should take her time to make it. Regardless, I am just gushing every time I see the game and I think this has potential to be a massive game of the year type hit for me.
If you enjoyed this post, I got a lot more end of the year lists coming up when it's actually next year so I can tell people what I enjoyed in December. You can also support me in making cool queer art by checking out my Patreon and Ko-fi.

Games I beat 2024 - 1
Let's start this up again!
Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land (gameboy)
Tumblr media
I guess I'm on a bit of a nostalgia trip after Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins was put on the Switch VC. Why not this game...? I still have the gameboy cartridge because game preservation just ain't there yet.
Fun game overall, Wario has some fun powers (jet bunny!) compared to Mario. Wario has good air control so the platforming was usually not an issue. The lava wall autoscroll level is probably the worst level in the game, with the big rolling spike balls the next. I got all the treasures & secrets, too. Not a long game, took just 3 sessions.

And finally, to complete my yearly game posts, here's what I plan on playing in the year 2024:
1. Assemble With Care - a short little game I should be able to knock out in a few hours but I picked it up in a bundle and I have wanted to play it so I will try to knock it out this year.
2. I'm more than half way done with Baldur's Gate 3 but I likely will be playing it through January. I hope to finish it at least once before P3R.
3. Bloodborne - help.
4. Borderlands 2 - since I had such a blast playing Borderlands with my boyfriend this year, I'm looking forward to giving this game a second chance and hopefully enjoying it much more.
5. Borderlands 3 - a little less hopeful for this one, since I haven't heard much good about it, but might as well knock out the main franchise.
6. Boyfriend Dungeon - I just got this for Christmas and I'm excited for the concept of romancing my weapons :)
7. I'm also more than halfway through Catherine, so I also intend to finish that in the coming month.
8. Cat Museum - something cute and short I picked up on mega sale and want to make an effort to play this year.
9. The Coffin of Andy and Leyley - I actually have no idea what this game is about or if I'll like it but it was a gift so dammit I'll play it.
10. Dragon's Dogma 2 - Dragon's Dogma is easily in my top 10 games of all time, and I am SO hype for this game. The only downside is it's coming in March, and the first quarter of 2024 is pretty PACKED with games for me.
11. Etrian Odyssey - because I never finished it when I owned it on DS but I'm in my Atlus Games era rn so
12. Far: Lone Sails - I was drawn to this game for the art and it seems like a quick little experience of a game.
13. Final Fantasy 16 DLC - blanketing over the currently available DLC and the up and coming DLC.
14. Hades - a carry over from 2023's list but THIS WILL BE THE YEAR (maybe)
15. Haven - I don't think (?) this game is very long but it looks very heartwarming so I'm here for it this year.
16. Little Nightmares 2 - another fairly short game that I have no reason not to play, especially when I'm obsessed with the first one.
17. Little Nightmares 3 - I don't know what the release date is yet but like Borderlands let's try to close out a franchise!
18. Metaphor: ReFantazio - it doesn't even have a release date and I'm already excited about it.
21. Nier Automata - another carry over from 2023, but I have a good feeling about it this year.
19. NEO: The World Ends With You - I hear only good things about this game but I will be walking into it 98% blind.
20. Nightingale - Idk how much I'll actually play this game but my friend and I have been watching its development for years and we are READY
22. Nier Replicant - I watched a friend play some of this and it looked fun, and since I saw it was free on PS plus... why not.
23. Octopath Traveler - this is to feed my JRPG addiction but break up some of my Atlus obsession
24. Opus: Echo of Starsong - This was a gift like 2 years ago and I really want to play it through this year.
25. Persona 3 Reload - I ALREADY TOOK VACATION FOR IT IM SO READY 38 MORE DAYS
26. Persona 4 Arena - Because I think it's the only readily available Persona game I haven't played yet.
27. Sea of Stars - I'm more than half through this too, I stopped playing it to play Tactica so I'll be finishing this soon as well.
28. Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne - I put a fair amount of time into it this year, and I adore this game. I'm finishing it next year.
29. Shin Megami Tensei 5 - for real this year, I promise (🤞)
31. Undertale - why have I not played this? Why did it sit on my list last year untouched? Why did I install it and never play it? The world may never know.
30. Soul Hackers 2 - because again, I'm in my Atlus Games era and I bought it this year so time to play it.
32. Untitled Goose Game - for casual hijinks
I'm even more ambitious this year than last year and thats without knowing even half of whats to be released in 2024 sooo wish me luck.

Draw a sight at some Hyper-Casual Games
In recent years, the gaming industry has witnessed a meteoric rise in the popularity of hyper-casual games. These bite-sized experiences have captivated audiences worldwide, offering simple gameplay mechanics coupled with addictive challenges. So, what exactly defines a hyper-casual game, and what makes them so appealing?

At their core, hyper-casual games are characterized by their accessibility and simplicity. They often feature straightforward controls and mechanics that can be grasped within seconds, making them ideal for quick play sessions during commutes, breaks, or whenever a moment of leisure presents itself. Titles like "Flappy Bird," "Crossy Road," and "Helix Jump" exemplify this minimalist approach, where players can jump right in without the need for tutorials or lengthy explanations.

One of the crucial things driving the success of hyper-casual games is their ability to appeal to a broad audience. Unlike more complex titles that cater to specific demographics, hyper-casual games have universal appeal, attracting players of all ages and gaming backgrounds. Whether you're a seasoned gamer looking for a quick distraction or someone new to gaming altogether, there's something inherently enjoyable about these simple yet engaging experiences.

Another contributing factor to the popularity of hyper-casual games is their addictive nature. While the gameplay mechanics may be simple, the challenge lies in mastering them and achieving high scores. This pursuit of improvement, coupled with the instant gratification of short play sessions, keeps players coming back for more, eager to beat their previous records and climb the leaderboard.

From a developer's perspective, hyper-casual games offer an enticing opportunity for rapid iteration and experimentation. With shorter development cycles and lower production costs compared to larger-scale titles, developers can quickly test new ideas and concepts, iterating based on player feedback to create even more compelling experiences.

Tumblr media
Take a look at the most popular Hyper Casual Games
Games with easy to access and appealing features set greatly in the gaming frame. Thus, Hyper Casual Games are extremely preferred and become successful than others in a very short time. Here are some popular hyper-casual games you might enjoy:

 1. "Flappy Bird" - The game that started the hyper-casual craze, challenging players to navigate a bird through a series of pipes by tapping the screen to flap its wings.

 2. "Crossy Road" - A modern take on the classic arcade game Frogger, where players must guide a character across a busy road, avoiding obstacles and hazards along the way.

 3. "Helix Jump" - A simple yet addictive game in which players have to control a ball that keeps on bouncing as it descends through a helical tower, aiming to avoid colored platforms and reach the bottom.

 4. "Paper.io" - In this multiplayer game, players control a colored square as they attempt to claim territory by drawing lines and enclosing areas while avoiding other players.

 5. "Ballz" - Players launch balls at a wall of bricks, aiming to break as many bricks as possible with each shot while strategically managing the bouncing trajectory.

 6. "Color Switch" - A fast-paced game where players must navigate a bouncing ball through obstacles of different colors, switching the ball's color to pass through matching obstacles.

 7. "Dune!" - Players control the ball as it rolls down a series of sand dunes, jumping to avoid obstacles and gaps while aiming for the highest score possible.
 8. "Cut Drop Strike" - Cut Drop Strike is another casual 2D animation game where the player is required to cut the rope to make a drop-down fall of the ball in a way to hit the pins and qualify the level.
Tumblr media

These games offer quick, addictive gameplay experiences perfect for short bursts of entertainment. Whether you're waiting in line or looking to unwind after a long day, these hyper-casual games provide instant fun at your fingertips.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the rise of hyper-casual games represents a significant shift in the gaming landscape, offering accessible, addictive, and universally appealing experiences to players around the world. As technology continues to evolve and audiences seek new forms of entertainment, the future looks bright for hyper-casual games, promising continued innovation, and enjoyment for years to come.

Games I beat 2024 - 2
Tumblr media
Back at it again at Krispy Kreme Monster Sanctuary. I replayed on steam for the achievements.
I decided on a "Beast" only team. When it worked, it worked well! So we have, from left to right (I'll put a Read More since I'm just gonna ramble on about M.S. mechanics for a long time 😂):
Sycophantom as healer. It unfortunately doesn't have the party Mass Restore for debuff mitigation, but it does have single-target Restore and the paired healing bonus skill that also heals the lowest HP monster whenever it uses a heal. So it's kiiinda like a party heal? Unfortunately for the main team, Sycophantom was the only monster with Cleanse, a way to remove buffs from enemies, so I often had to choose whether to use its turn on healing or try to attack an enemy to remove their buffs so the DPS can actually get a hit in. Also, its Psychokinesis buff buffs magic attacks, not physical which doesn't help Minitaur. When not attacking, Sycophantom also puts stacks of Blind on enemies which helps when combined with the agility buff from Psychokinesis.
Minitaur as the main DPS. I stacked so much critical chance and critical damage on this bad boy. Its Ultimate was Boulder Toss, which can and would one-shot annoying assholes like Aazerach and Sutsune in the Legendary Keeper teams. It also has Counter which counters every attack on him whether it lands or not (thanks, Agility and blind from Sycophantom!). There were times the last monster on the enemy team was already almost dead by the time I started attacking it from all the counters haha. Also, Minitaur's party buff adds Regeneration which is great, helped Sycophantom keep up with the heals and lack of party debuff removal.
Spectral Lion as the 2nd main DPS (who needs support when you can have 2 DPS? 😂). This thing was mean too! Jewel Blast is my favorite earth attack (next to Boulder Toss anyway). Critical Mass and Critical Boon means everyone in the party was fully buffed within a few turns (unless the enemy could remove them... the WORST). Overall Lion is a solid starter and its damage was pretty great too. It also gets Age stacks which means as long as you can keep it alive, it gets stronger and stronger. I think its downside is its kinda low Mana Regen so the Chill debuff hurt it a lot.
And now for the backup team:
4. Caraglow as healer. I can honestly say I did not like Caraglow. I prefer monsters with at least one elemental attack. Caraglow has 0. Worked all right as a backup healer but that's it. In fact, when it came to the Legendary Keeper battles, I replaced it with Targoat (which isn't even a healer)
5. Dodo as... Dodo. Stack a bunch of HP bonuses on it and it can work as a healer. It wasn't particularly strong as an attacker but it has the passive ability to remove a stack of debuffs at the start of your turn which was probably the main use it had. I think I've used Dodo as a backup before on my bird team but I've played so much I honestly can't remember 😅
6. Aurumtail as support. Who doesn't love this derpy dinosaur! I've heard this one can dish out some major DPS with shield bash but honestly its weakness to physical meant it usually died pretty fast whenever it was out. So I never got to see that. Maybe it would pair well with another Shielder. It does have relatively strong attack and worked well when I needed a wind attacker.
Honorable mentions:
I started with Catzerker instead of Minitaur, but found it too fragile. I also started with Yowie but couldn't find a role for it. Mogwai was on the team for a bit too, but it overlapped with Yowie. Then I had too many monsters with similar weaknesses and this became a liability in the Magma Chamber keeper battle, and that's when I restructured the team to become what I've listed above.
I did temporarily replace Minitaur and/or Spectral Lion for Brutus when I was trying to 5-star some of the harder bosses. Vodinoy, Ascendant, and Diavola in particular gave the team lots of trouble. So I buffed the heck out of the Brutus and went for the cheap 1 or 2 -hit KOs from its charge ups.
And as mentioned before, Targoat was, well, the GOAT for the Legendary Keeper battles. Its a wonderful supporter and tanky! Once it earns enough charge stacks from defending, it's something to reckon with. I'll have to use it in a main team sometime.
I know Sutsune instead of Sycophantom would've paired extremely well with Minituar (mainly for Bleed Out). But I've already mained Sutsune before and wanted to give something else a chance. That's also why I didn't use Akhlut, which is also a Beast type.
And that's it for this playthrough! I'm sure it'll show up on the "games I beat" list again though, ahaha. There's still a handful of monsters I haven't used, after all. And, someone is working on an archipelago.gg mod for it. It'll absolutely be my go-to game when that happens!
