my favorite scully and mulder moments from s1
the evergreen classic mulder reaction to a terrified scully knocking at his door in the very first episode- how he checks over her, holds her close, and brings her into his room
(and then ANOTHER instance of examining each other for aliens in episode 8 which was wild. if i had a nickel for each time they had to look at each other's bodies for evidence of aliens, i'd only have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but its weird that it happened twice)
him playing with scully's necklace in episode 3, while admitting he feels "territorial"
the first time he calls scully "dana", right after her father dies- which surprises her so much she mumbles her name back to herself- and he follows up by grabbing her face and gently running his finger over her cheek
(and the first time she tries to call him "fox", after he had been awake for 3 straight days on a stakeout, and she begs him to go home- he laughs and says he even made his parents call him mulder)
((still, she brought him a sandwich and a drink- “if there’s an iced tea in that bag, could be love” “must be fate- root beer”))
scully in Doctor Mode™ after mulder got stuck in the fire in episode 12, trying to give him water as he lays in bed, while he gets all emo and pushes her hand away
when scully gets kidnapped in episode 15 and mulder calls her "dana" again over the phone, her first name slipping out in his fear, then he tells the kidnapper "listen to me, you lay one hand on scully, and so help me god..."
(and THEN he tells everyone going on her rescue mission that this is a very important mission to him, so please everybody do their best)
the endless banter: "i still don't get it. what does this have to do with us?" "robbing a jewelry store is a federal crime" (flatly) "thank you."
when he is at an autopsy with scully in episode 18 and makes it very clear he does Not Want To Be There (but she still is sad he won't join her on her next one in episode 22!)
"happy birthday scully!" (pause of confusion) "you're two months early!"
when she finally listened to the psychic to get evidence for a case in episode 13, trying to make mulder proud- "i'd thought you'd be pleased i'd opened myself to extreme possibilities"- only for him to yell at her for putting herself in danger
(later in the same episode she screamed at the criminal, saying that if he did anything to mulder, she'd kill him herself)
((AND their conversation at the end of that episode when mulder is laying in a hospital bed: "why can't you believe?" "i'm afraid"))
the very empire strikes back coded fighting in the arctic compound in episode 8
"you think it's remotely plausible that someone might think you're hot?" (stunned silence. scholars are still trying to figure out what was going on here)
oh, this one made me weepy: "i have never met anyone so passionate and dedicated to a belief as you. it's so intense, sometimes it's blinding. but there are others who are watching you, who know what i know, and whereas i can respect and admire your passion, they will use it against you. mulder, the truth is out there, but so are lies" aka the episode 17 monologue… what if i melted into a puddle? how would you react to this news? how about mulder the protector turning into mulder the protected?
(also, episode 17 had a moment where he grabbed her shoulder and leaned in and i had to restrain myself)
them having hand signals to indicate watch what you say, we’re being listened to
in episode 18, the preacher’s kid tries to taunt mulder with information about his sister and scully tries to shut him down Immediately
they’re looking for each other in the dark in episode 19 while a wild beast is on the loose and mulder finally kicks open the door and finds scully while she whispers “it’s okay, it’s me, it’s okay”
episode 20, when he shows her a bunch of lumberjacks, which he describes as “rugged manly men in the full bloom of their manhood” and he says she should look for anything unusual or a boyfriend among them... and she laughs
scully losing her mind when the evil cocoon bugs get on her, screaming at mulder to get them off of her, while he holds her still and explains it’s okay as long as they're in the light
(and then they sit on the bed, side by side, talking through the night)
when mulder’s friend dies and she kneels and says to him, “you’ve been through a lot… more than I think you realize” and encourages him to take some time for himself
any episode where they both wear big coats (for the snow in episode 8, or the rain in 20) is an instant classic to me
“mulder, you’re rushing me out of the room… is there a girl coming over?” from episode 11... yeah I laughed. and then laughed even more when he was just hanging out with deep throat in the next scene!
episode 23’s “how was the wedding? Did you catch the bouquet?” “maaaaybe 😊”
and who can forget the finale! she apologizes for doubting his alien leads; “I should know by now to trust your instincts” “why? no one else does” (both smile and i, once again, collapse)
there's so much to unpack here and i could spend a lifetime doing it, but before i watch s2 for the first time i needed to make note of the things that especially made me happy or brought great angst to the forefront; i am studying their dynamic and putting it in a bottle <3

Imagine being kidnapped by Tom Ludlow.
tom ludlow x f!reader
cw: kidnapping
the most terrifying thing about being kidnapped by tom is the fact he knows his way around the system; knows what kind of place to take you to where the two of you won't be found or disturbed, knows when to text your friends and family from your phone as to not rouse suspicion, knows what to say if anyone were to come sniffing around should they get suspicious.
thanks to his job and connections he already knows almost everything there is to know about you on paper. with a bit of digging he's able to get his hands on the basics - you're not in the LAPD system (of course you're not; sweet, innocent little you) but it's not too much of an issue for him to get the info he wants. he is a veteran detective after all. everything else, the nitty-gritty, the more personal things he'll have plenty of time to find out once he has you.
he knows you'll be frightened, completely terrified of him at first - it's only natural of course, waking up in an unfamiliar place with an unfamiliar face would instill fear in anyone - but he's sure that with time and a lot of care and patience he can chip away at that, bit by bit.
patience was never his strong suit, but for you he has all the patience in the world.
"sshh baby," tom cooed, his voice a deep rumble as he wiped away the tears rolling down your red, blotchy cheeks. "c'mon now."
you sniffled and hiccupped, doing your best to squeeze your eyes shut against any more fat globes of sadness and fear that prickled behind your lids and threatened to fall. tom hadn't outright hurt you since snatching you away from your life, but considering he did snatch you, you wouldn't put it past him.
and it's not like you could defend yourself against anything he could possibly do to you. without looking you knew your hands were handcuffed behind you, the cool metal biting at the soft skin of your wrists; not tight enough to be painful, but enough to cause discomfort and make sure you were secure. in a similar fashion your ankles were bound with zip ties to the front legs of the chair in which you woke up in, pinching your skin and surely leaving angry, crimson marks.
tom's big, meaty hands cupped the sides of your damp face. "look at me." the tone of his voice was stonier now, a complete juxtaposition to the gentle way in which he caressed your cheeks.
you did as you were told and opened your eyes, having to blink away any remaining tears that still clung to your long lashes. through your bleary vision you could just about make out the corners of his plush lips curling upwards into a satisfied smirk.
"that's it, atta girl. no need to cry - i ain't gonna hurt you."
of course, tom tells himself it's all to keep you safe and far away from any harm. he's seen what a nasty place the world can be for those who can't fight for themselves. deep down, however, there's a part of him that knows he's only feeding that need for control.

i found ur blog recently after becoming incredibly infatuated with twst but specifically idia shroud (my friends said i act like him to an uncanny level and they were absolutely right...) and i love your vilidia posts dearly. ok that's it thank u
OMG that's so awesome, welcome to the twst fandom and congrats on having such fantastic taste in characters and ships lol!! i adore vilidia (obviously, if my whole vilidia tag is any indication) but i haven't posted about them in so long, i hope you don't mind if i use your ask as an excuse to share some silly little headcanons that i don't believe i've posted before:
so i think that when vil was like, 10 or so, his dad tried to encourage his love of potion-making by getting him one of those candy chemistry kits. the ones that come in super cute colorful boxes and teach you how to make things like exploding pop rocks and glow-in-the-dark gummies while explaining the science behind it. (here's a picture of basically the exact thing i'm thinking of.) but vil, poor sweet little vil who'd already let the brutality of the entertainment industry make him believe that he needed to be absolutely perfect, just rolled his eyes and said he was too old for that stuff and that all of that candy wouldn't be good for him anyway. he never once touched the kit, even though part of him probably did really want to.
and i also think that at some point, after he and idia had started dating, idia bought one of those same kits online and just barely mustered up the courage to ask vil if he'd like to join him and ortho in making some of the candy. he claimed the entire thing was ortho's idea, but vil could tell that idia really wanted them to do this together and he decided it'd be okay to indulge his boyfriend just once. as he actually made the candy he realized that although it obviously didn't teach him a single thing he didn't already know, it was still a lot of fun and he wished he hadn't rejected things like that as a kid.
also, speaking of chemistry, there's a voice line in-game where idia implies that he is not good at it. so while i think he and vil would be fascinated by each other's different fields of scientific interest and would love talking about it together i also think that one day idia just very overdramatically goes like: "omg i'm doing soooooo bad in my chemistry classes... if only some super smart and kind and very attractive person would help me out..."
and vil responds by telling idia that he most certainly does not share his younger brother's talent as an actor. but he agrees to help anyway and then they have cute study dates.
idia's habit of starting to excitedly infodump about his interests only to suddenly get embarrassed and stop persists for a while into his relationship with vil but every single time it happens, vil encourages idia to keep going. he often says things like "oh, are you done already? that's a shame, i was so looking forward to hearing more about sora's journey to save kairi". it takes a long time but eventually idia gets to a point where he's so comfortable around vil that he doesn't feel embarrassed anymore.

I always have thoughts about Simarkus and I could talk about them for forever, but there’s one thing I haven’t seen talked about yet that I thought was interesting and wanted to mention.
So throughout the entire game, Simon is so insistent that Markus is "the only one who can lead us", or that if Markus dies "the cause will die with you". And I find this interesting, because technically... Simon is wrong.
If Markus dies, then North, or Connor, or both, take up the helm. North leads Jericho, and Connor leads the deviants at Cyberlife tower if he becomes deviant. And the cause most definitely doesn’t die if Markus does, even if some of their efforts may fail. They continue to fight until they win, or die trying. And while North is doomed to fail her fight because d*vid c*ge is a misogynistic pos, if Connor successfully leads the deviants from Cyberlife tower, he can choose to shoot himself rather than give Amanda control, and the androids still win.
Simon just genuinely believes that Markus is the only one who could lead them. And he’s the only one the entire game who is so sure of that fact that he follows Markus no matter what and agrees with every decision Markus makes regardless of any opinions he may have on them. North and Josh get mad at Markus if he makes a decision that goes against their input, but Simon almost never gives input and just asks Markus what he wants to do. And whether or not it's because Simon just sees something in Markus that seemingly no other character sees, or if he's in love with Markus, or both, I think it’s so interesting that Simon’s feelings for Markus so deeply affect how he sees Markus as a leader, and how differently - how genuinely - Simon perceives Markus versus how North and Josh do.
North and Josh see Markus as who they want him to be. They see a leader figure that is simply a stand in for themselves, someone they'll follow but also someone they want to influence, telling him what decisions to make or what he should do or say. And Markus's decisions greatly impact their opinions of him.
But not Simon. He sees Markus for who he is, not what he wants Markus to be. He trusts Markus to save their people, not because he necessarily agrees with whatever Markus decides, but because he trusts that whatever decisions Markus makes are the right decisions. He feels so strongly that Markus is the only one who can lead them because he's making decisions that none of them could ever make. If Simon even does disagree with Markus (which we wouldn't know, because his opinion of Markus isn't swayed if Markus chooses aggression or pacifism), he still follows Markus. Because Markus making decisions that they disagree with is exactly why Markus is the only one who could lead them, to Simon; as in, none of them could lead because they'd all make their own decisions, but Markus would make decisions for everyone, regardless of others' input.
Even when Markus makes a decision that's in line with something Josh or North suggest, he always has his own reasoning for it: "I won't kill one of our own", "I want them to understand… but I do not want to start a war", "No crime against an android shall go unpunished", “ We shouldn’t become like them”, "We have to face them. There's no other choice." He doesn't just go "oh well [North/Josh] has a good point", he makes his own point. Simon sees this, and he sees how Markus is willing to listen to both of them, and he decides that Markus is the only one can make those decisions for the better of Jericho and their cause. “Wherever you need to go, we’ll follow you.”
Simon believes the cause will die with Markus, that Markus is the only one who could lead them, because he sees that Markus puts the well-being of their cause above his own opinions. Despite Simon having kept Jericho in hiding, as soon as Markus starts the fight for freedom, Simon follows him readily. Simon is more passionate about and more sure of the cause's success than most other deviants are, and he's willing to do whatever, to follow Markus through whatever, to ensure they win. He so easily trusts Markus. North doesn't think they can win without aggression, and Josh doesn't think they can win if they don't choose pacifism, but Simon believes that they will win so long as Markus is leading, no matter what Markus chooses to do. And that’s why he without hesitation will sacrifice himself for Markus, because he sees Markus’s life as synonymous with the cause’s life, and therefore the decision to die for Markus is easy.
If Markus dies, the cause doesn't actually die with him; but to Simon, it does.
