hey!! i am genuinely curious about how the catholic church helped implement the hays code, would you be able to tell me more/do you have any good reading material about it? thanks so much!!
This has been sitting in my inbox for aaaaaages, because I want to do it justice! It's actually a big facet of my research project that I'm going to go into much, much, much more depth on, but here's the short(er) summary:
The foundational text of the Hays Code was written by two Catholics: a Jesuit priest named Father Daniel Lord, and a man named Martin Quigley, who was the editor of the Motion Picture Herald. They grounded their guidelines in Catholic morality and values, based on the idea that art could be a vehicle for evil by negatively influencing the actions of those who view it.
The original list of guidelines written by Lord and Quigley was adapted into the Production Code, popularly known as the "Hays Code" after William Hays, the president of the Production Code Administration that enforced it. As president of the PCA, William Hays appointed a staunch Catholic man called Joseph Breen to enforce the code. Breen enforced it aggressively, confiscating the original reels of films he deemed inappropriate and against the Code. Many lost films from this era are only "lost" because Joseph Breen personally had them destroyed. Some were rediscovered later, but many were completely purged from existence.
When Breen died in 1965, Variety magazine wrote, "More than any single individual, he shaped the moral stature of the American moral picture." He was a very, very big deal, and was directly responsible for censoring more films than I could even begin to list here.
In 1937, Olga J. Martin, Joseph Breen’s secretary, said, “To an impoverished country which had become religious and serious-minded, the sex attitudes of the post-war period became grotesquely unreal and antedated. The public at large wanted to forget its own derelictions of the ‘gay twenties.' The stage was set for the moral crusade.”
In 1936, once the Code was being fully enforced on filmmakers by Joseph Breen, a letter was issued by the office of Pope Pius XI that praised Breen's work, and encouraged all good Catholics to support film censorship.
The letter read in part, "From time to time, the Bishops will do well to recall to the motion picture industry that, amid the cares of their pastoral ministry, they are under obligation to interest themselves in every form of decent and healthy recreation because they are responsible before God for the moral welfare of their people even during their time of leisure. Their sacred calling constrains them to proclaim clearly and openly that unhealthy and impure entertainment destroys the moral fibre of a nation. They will likewise remind the motion picture industry that the demands which they make regard not only the Catholics but all who patronize the cinema."
Basically, this letter was a reminder from the Papal authority that bishops and priests are supposed to stop people from engaging with "lewd" or "obscene" art. That meant supporting things like the Hays Code.
So, to summarize: the original text of the Hays Code was written by two Catholics, including a priest. The biggest and most aggressive censor under the Code was a Catholic man, who had the full support and approval of the Pope at the time. Good Catholics were called en-masse to support the Hays Code, because it was intentionally written to line up with Catholic teachings.
There's a lot more to say on the subject, and if you're interested in reading more on your own, I recommend the book "Pre-Code Hollywood: Sex, Immorality, and Insurrection in American Cinema, 1930-1934," by Thomas Doherty. There are plenty other sources I can recommend on request, but that's a solid place to start.
(And if I can toot my own horn, I'm intending to do a video lecture series all about American film censorship and the Hays Code. Pledging to my Patreon helps keep me fed and housed while I do all this damn research.)

Mine
Pairing: Timmy x Reader
Warnings: Mentions of cheating, smut. Famous reader, famous Timmy.
Mine
He shouldn’t be doing this, he hated cheating on Heather but he couldn’t stay away from her.
She listened to him, made him feel seen, he didn’t treat him with kid gloves and she also didn’t treat him like some big shot celebrity. He was just Timmy to her, as he had always been to her.
Heather was a lovely girl, beautiful and smart. But all she cared about was Timothée’s fame, whenever
he got invited to a big Hollywood party and he didn’t want to go, she would kick off saying he was being selfish for not wanting to go and show face. When really, she just wanted to be seen and photographed with him. The Greatest Hollywood actor of his time, Timmy rolled his eyes thinking about it.
Y/n couldn’t have cared less about his fame or the big Hollywood parties, she would rather sit at home and have a movie night.
He remembered the moment he lay eyes on her, it was at The Governor’s Ball thing and the room was filled with an excited buzz because someone heard that Y/n
Y/L/N was rumoured to be attending the ball. She rarely ever attended these events because she wasn’t really impressed with the whole Hollywood thing, but because this was for a good cause she decided to accept this invite.
When she walked into the room Timothée couldn’t take his eyes off her. She was stunning, she looked as if she had just descended from Heaven and graced the earth with her presence for this one night. She made her way around the room talking to everyone, and he meant everyone. She even spoke briefly to the waiters who took her drink orders, everyone adored her. Timmy knew he had to talk to her so slowly made his way over to her to introduce himself, as he got closer to her table he saw she was talking to DiCaprio and they were discussing his foundation and overheard some of their conversation.
‘It’s so incredible how far the foundation has come, you’re doing amazing work Leo. I doubt you need my help, but if you do need anything at all, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I have some good friends in the Marine Biology sector who will be more than happy to help.’ She smiles as Leo takes her in his large ones and thanks her profoundly for all her support!
As Leo leaves the table Timmy hesitantly approaches the seat across from her. ‘Miss y/l/n, hello I’m-‘
‘Timothée Chalamet. I’m such a huge fan of your work.’ She gives him a smile he knows no one else in the room has received as his green eyes went wide as spaceships.
‘Really? You know who I am??’
He squeaked taking her extended hand. It was so soft.
‘Yes, I saw you in the Prodigal Son in broadway, then your big debut in Interstellar.’
He shakes his head blushing ‘Oh I didn’t have a very big role in that as I thought I would.’
‘From the way Matthew gushed about you, you wouldn’t know that.’
She smiled looking at him, she thought he was so charming. His humility was endearing, every time she praised him for something he would go on to praise his fellow costars instead of taking the credit for himself, that sort of person was rare to find. That’s one of the reasons she never attended these things, everyone she ever spoke to, with the acception of DiCaprio, was so vapid and vain. She found it disgusting.
She could tell right away Timmy wasn’t like this, the way he spoke, he was considerate, intelligent and kind and passionate about what he did. She could’ve sat and spoke to him all evening, it was intellectually stimulating to talk about anything and everything, she could feel the spark between them. But she also saw when she arrived that he had brought a date, so she assumed he had a girlfriend.
‘Could I maybe, maybe I’m being rude, but I would very much like to see you again.’ He rambled nervously and her heart skipped a beat as she smiled and blurted out without thinking ‘Yes I would love to see you again. But what about your girlfriend?’
He looked over at Heather who was currently talking to Greta Gerwig and returned his eyes to y/n
‘She’s just a young lady I asked to accompany me tonight.’
Y/n shook her head and smiled shaking her head ‘You’re an awful liar.’ She giggled as he covered his face with his hands feeling embarrassed at being caught out. ‘I know, I know I’ve always sucked at lying.’
Y/n only giggled more taking his hands from his face and looked at him ‘What are you doing tomorrow?’
‘I I, nothing I can clear my schedule.’
He stammered looking at her wide eyed.
‘Then it’s settled, we will have a very important meeting where breakfast will be included.’ She put on a mock serious face before winking and smiling and stood up, he stood with her taking her hand and bending down to kiss her knuckles ‘Until tomorrow then, Miss Y/L\N.’
She placed her fingers on his lips making his gulp ‘Call me y/n, Timmy.’
That was 2 months ago, after that first breakfast date they became inseparable, they kept their interactions low key so the paps wouldn’t get a hold of them.
Now he was at her house, trailing his lips down her neck as she ran her fingers through his hair before dragging her hands under his t-shirt and over his back making him shiver against her, he bit down gently on her shoulder causing her to gasp.
‘Timmy.’ She whispered his name against his ear before pulling his T-shirt over his head and off him.
He lifted her top off her and tossed it with his own and kissed her lips gently, she kissed him back deepening the kiss and pushed him to sit up before climbing onto his lap.
He gripped her waist looking up at her with wide eyes and placed his hand flat against her torso before sliding his fingers up grabbing each of her breasts over her bra then slid his fingers up her neck before wrapping his hand around her throat as let her head fall back between her shoulders letting him kiss her skin, he gripped the waistband of her jeans unbuttoning them as he continued leaving a trail of wet kisses down her neck.
She pulled him closer against her body and wrapped her arms around his shoulders before grabbing his face placing an open mouth kiss against his lips and ground against his sweatpants feeling his cock grow beneath her as he tightened his grip around her waist and deepened the kiss and pulled her lace bralette off her and buried his face into her neck, breathing in her natural floral scent and ran his hands up her smooth back as she raked her fingers through his messy curls messing them up even more.
She begins rocking against him grounding her hips down against his crotch, she moves to kiss his neck as he pulled her jeans down her hips trying to get them off her,
They fell backwards on the couch with her pinning him underneath her as she reached up and kissed him full on the lips rocking harder against him as he slid her jeans down her thighs and pulled her knees up on either side of him.
She moved her hands down to his sweatpants and pushed them down his legs before he slid into her from underneath as he continued to kiss her, she gasped as she sank down on him and began to ride him.
He buried his face against her neck and held onto her for dear life as she rode him hard, breathing hard.
He rut his hips up against hers meeting her thrusts making her gasp against his ear, she grips his shoulders and sits up and began moving up and down on his cock. He slid his hands up her torso and gripped her breasts pinching her nipples as she threw her head back, groaning.
He sat up and attacked her neck with wet kisses and light bites on her skin, and began rutting into her as deep as he could making her gasps audibly and grip his hair.
‘Timmy, harder.’ She breathed out against his ear, he pushed her down onto her back and began slamming into her as hard as he could. He crushes his lips against hers clashing their teeth together, he wrapped his arms under her waist pulling her closer against him and slammed into her panting against her neck.
They came together in a heap of tangled limbs and sweat as they felt their damp skin sticking.
He felt her leave small kisses along his shoulder and nuzzled her neck releasing a small whimper as she dragged the throw from the back of the sofa over them as he placed kissed along any skin he could reach as she pushed his still damp hair from his even more damp face.
It was wrong, they knew it. Timmy knew it especially. But he couldn’t muster up an ounce of guilt for Heather as he nuzzled his nose against hers and whispered
‘Mine.’ Over and over again.

Alexei Navalny returned to Russia in January 2021. Right before he boarded the plane, he posted a film titled “Putin’s Palace: The Story of the World’s Largest Bribe” on YouTube. The video, nearly two hours long, was an extraordinary feat of investigative reporting. Using secret plans, drone footage, 3-D visualizations, and the testimony of construction workers, Navalny’s video told the story of a hideous $1.3 billion Black Sea villa containing every luxury that a dictator could imagine: a hookah bar, a hockey rink, a helipad, a vineyard, an oyster farm, a church. The video also described the eye-watering costs and the financial trickery that had gone into the construction of the palace on behalf of its true owner, Vladimir Putin.
But the power of the film was not just in the pictures, or even in the descriptions of money spent. The power was in the style, the humor, and the Hollywood-level professionalism of the film, much of which was imparted by Navalny himself. This was his extraordinary gift: He could take the dry facts of kleptocracy—the numbers and statistics that usually bog down even the best financial journalists—and make them entertaining. On-screen, he was just an ordinary Russian, sometimes shocked by the scale of the graft, sometimes mocking the bad taste. He seemed real to other ordinary Russians, and he told stories that had relevance to their lives. You have bad roads and poor health care, he told Russians, because they have hockey rinks and hookah bars.
And Russians listened. A poll conducted in Russia a month after the video appeared revealed that one in four Russians had seen it. Another 40 percent had heard about it. It’s safe to guess that in the three years that have elapsed since then, those numbers have risen. To date, that video has been viewed 129 million times.
Navalny is now presumed dead. The Russian prison system has said he collapsed after months of ill health. Perhaps he was murdered more directly, but the details don’t matter: The Russian state killed him. Putin killed him—because of his political success, because of his ability to reach people with the truth, and because of his talent for breaking through the fog of propaganda that now blinds his countrymen, and some of ours as well.
He is also dead because he returned to Russia from exile in 2021, having already been poisoned twice, knowing he would be arrested. By doing so he turned himself from an ordinary Russian into something else: a model of what civic courage can look like, in a country that has very little of it. Not only did he tell the truth, but he wanted to do so inside Russia, where Russians could hear him. This is what I wrote at the time: “If Navalny is showing his countrymen how to be courageous, Putin wants to show them that courage is useless.”
That Putin still feared Navalny was clear in December, when the regime moved him to a distant arctic prison to stop him from communicating with his friends and his family. He had been in touch with many people; I have seen some of his prison messages, sent secretly via lawyers, policemen, and guards, just as Gulag prisoners once sent messages in Stalin’s Soviet Union. He remained the spirit behind the Anti-Corruption Foundation, a team of Russian exiles who continue to investigate Russian corruption and tell the truth to Russians, even from abroad. (I have served on the foundation’s advisory board.) Earlier this week, before his alleged collapse, he sent a Valentine’s Day message to his wife, Yulia, on Telegram: “I feel that you are there every second, and I love you more and more.”
Navalny’s decision to return to Russia and go to jail inspired respect even among people who didn’t like him, didn’t agree with him, or found fault with him. He was also a model for other dissidents in other violent autocracies around the world. Only minutes after his death was announced, I spoke with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, the Belarusian opposition leader. “We are worried for our people too,” she told me. If Putin can kill Navalny with impunity, then dictators elsewhere might feel empowered to kill other brave people.
The enormous contrast between Navalny’s civic courage and the corruption of Putin’s regime will remain. Putin is fighting a bloody, lawless, unnecessary war, in which hundreds of thousands of ordinary Russians have been killed or wounded, for no reason other than to serve his own egotistical vision. He is running a cowardly, micromanaged reelection campaign, one in which all real opponents are eliminated and the only candidate who gets airtime is himself. Instead of facing real questions or challenges, he meets tame propagandists such as Tucker Carlson, to whom he offers nothing more than lengthy, circular, and completely false versions of history.
Even behind bars Navalny was a real threat to Putin, because he was living proof that courage is possible, that truth exists, that Russia could be a different kind of country. For a dictator who survives thanks to lies and violence, that kind of challenge was intolerable. Now Putin will be forced to fight against Navalny’s memory, and that is a battle he will never win.

and also just. the way ambiguity in relationships is assumed to be romantic, too. see, i wrote that whole post a while back about how I loved ambiguous fictional relationships, with deep devotion but no clear label as to the type of relationship. i called it love as in significance--that's where my tag comes from. love as in being important to someone, in whatever form that takes.
and what I said then about how this applies to romance still applies--when I'm reading about a fictional romance, I'll be much more engaged with one that feels built on that foundation of significance than one that isn't. flirting, the trappings of modern courtship, those feel empty to me without the feeling that these characters already matter to each other. (this is why in real life I'm so perplexed by things like dating apps, or people who actively seek out romance with strangers--I just personally can't fathom the idea of wanting that kind of closeness with someone you don't already know and care for.)
but in regards to ambiguity....I feel like I've been burned a little. I loved ambiguity because it meant you could take many things away from it. other people could see romance, but I could see the kind of deeply devoted platonic relationship that, let's be honest, is incredibly rare in fiction. but I'm starting to feel frustrated by the way ambiguity is assumed to be romance, without an explicit statement that it's not. (I've joked about the obligatory "no hetero" moments that have to be inserted into the start of a piece of media that has a male and a female protagonist with any kind of relationship other than romance--the "not with those lips" moment in the D&D movie, for example. It's funny, and i appreciate it being made very clear, but it's kind of sad that it has to be.)
and...okay, there's an elephant in the room that i really should acknowledge. I was talking about it in that first post, but I made a point of never mentioning it, although i'm sure plenty of people guessed.
I haven't watched Good Omens season two. I'm not sure if I'm ever going to. When I first wrote about my love for ambiguous relationships back in February of 2023, Aziraphale and Crowley were at the top of my list. When I wrote about how ambiguity left room for anyone to see themselves represented, and how i wished that a little more space was left for aro voices, I was talking about them. I was frustrated by people who saw that ambiguity as "queerbaiting"--didn't they see that the story was already queer, that Aziraphale and Crowley cared so deeply for each other, and whether they kissed or not wouldn't change anything?
But they did kiss. And it did change something. I don't feel like there's a place left for me anymore. And there's social pressure to celebrate, to be happy for another canon queer love story on TV, and god I'd love to celebrate that, but I can't help but feel a little betrayed by a story that I thought would leave space for me.
(and yes, a kiss doesn't have to mean romance--but in this, in hollywood, it's assumed to. the creators and the audience both understand it as such, unless someone stops to say no, we're friends who kiss each other the mouth, we're subverting your expectations. because the expectations are inescapable.)
I've been trying to give myself the space to feel upset about this. To remember that aro stories are queer stories too. And I think I'm raising my standards. I'll take ambiguity--I'll take any carved-out space I can find. But I'm not sure I trust it anymore. I want explicitly platonic relationships with the level of love and devotion and care usually reserved for romance. I want to read and watch and listen to stories about people who are significant to each other without romance even being in the picture. I want love that isn't synonymous with romance. I'm going to stop feeling like I have to settle for anything less.

Warning: This article contains full spoilers for Dune: Part 2 and Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning.
In case you haven’t noticed, Dune is on top of the world right now. The much acclaimed and very lucrative second installment, Dune: Part 2, wraps up Denis Villeneuve’s take on the first book in Frank Herbert’s iconic science-fiction saga, setting the stage for the all but inevitable next film to tackle the second book, Dune Messiah. As IMAX theaters continue to fill up with Dune fans eager for a close-up look at Shai-Hulud, studio executives all over Hollywood will certainly be looking at what happened here to see if they can replicate Dune’s success with future projects. Beyond “letting directors make the movies they want to make” and “audiences are getting tired of formulaic franchise movies with dull visuals,” there’s one other element that stands out as a bit easier to implement…
The obvious answer is to cast Rebecca Ferguson in your movie.
Looking back at Ferguson’s Lady Jessica in both Dune Parts 1 and 2, she stands out not just as the best performance among an incredibly stacked cast, but also as a critical part of the film’s press tour through her chaotic energy and memeable personality. How did this Swedish sensation secure her place as the MVP of the Dune franchise? Let’s take a look.
That’s Mother (of the Messiah)
Over the course of both Dune films, which run about five hours in total, we run into a wide array of colorful characters played by a murderer’s row of Hollywood’s current top talent. However, many of the characters are either exclusive to one installment, go long stretches of the runtime without being seen, and in some special cases like Anya Taylor-Joy’s appearance as Alia, are clearly setups for films yet to come. Even Zendaya as Chani, who is credited as co-lead in Part 2, is restricted mostly to a handful of dream sequences in Part 1. However, the one character relationship that exists as the strongest throughline from the beginning of Paul Atreides’ journey all the way to its culmination in this first story is that of Paul and his mother, Lady Jessica of the Bene Gesserit.
n a film where many of the emotional beats can get drowned out a bit by the expansive backdrops and dour atmosphere, the foundational scenes of Part 1 illustrating the contradictory relationship between mother and son stand out as some of the film’s best. Jessica bore Paul out of love for his father, Leto, consciously choosing to grant him a son when she was instructed to do otherwise, and she cares for Paul’s safety above all others. At the same time, she is also a cunning manipulator who has been training Paul in the superhuman abilities of her order against their wishes, and grooming him for a dark destiny that the young Atreides spends much of the two films hoping to avoid. Jessica is simultaneously driven by a genuine love for her son and a desire to facilitate his rise to power, and Ferguson walks the razor-wire line between these two aspects with pinpoint precision.
This continues into Part 2, where we see Jessica step into an even more overtly villainous role as she schemes her way into assuming the mantle of Reverend Mother of the Fremen. Her relationship with Paul becomes more antagonistic as she sets in motion the events that will lead to his accepting the role of Lisan al Gaib and challenging the Emperor, to the point of even being deemed a traitor to the Bene Gesserit despite ostensibly doing what they wanted by bringing the Kwisatz Haderach into existence. That Jessica has any sympathy from the audience – despite being a eugenicist and megalomaniac who usurped the religious leadership of an indigenous culture so her son could claim dominion of the universe almost purely out of her own vanity – all comes down to Ferguson imbuing her with inner life and dimension that makes us feel like we understand her even when the script doesn’t actually give us every detail about her motivations.
From her recurring role as Ilsa Faust in the Mission: Impossible movies to portraying main villain Rose the Hat in Mike Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep, and now playing Lady Jessica in the Dune films, Ferguson has always been at her best when she takes on characters with a darker edge to their persona that she can contrast with her natural charm. Although Ilsa is more heroic than the other two, all three of these roles intrigue the audience, and the other characters they interact with, through seductive ambiguity, something Ferguson is better at than most of her contemporaries. But what makes this all the more interesting is that she’s seemingly an entirely different person off-camera, and one who is just as important to Dune’s success.
Princess of the Press Tour
As with all things, the true measure of a film’s success in the modern age is how many memes it spawns on social media. From one filmgoer riding a homemade sandworm at his local AMC to jokes about Stilgar’s somewhat overzealous dedication to his prophet, there’s no shortage of humor from fans sharing their responses to Villeneuve’s latest epic. However, one member of the cast is bringing her own brand of comedy to the party, and that’s none other than Rebecca Ferguson, who has taken to promotional interviews with an energy that can best be described as somewhere along a spectrum between “unconventional” and “frankly chaotic.” Not that there’s anything wrong with her having a goofy side to her; on the contrary, the impression she’s made on social media indicates she’s become a true fan favorite because of her behavior.
At a time when press tours are increasingly filled with inane questions and too many influencers at the expense of journalists, clips of Ferguson’s interviews where she reveals just how little of a filter she has have been one of the unsung joys of Part 2’s release. From admitting she still hasn’t read the novel even after making two movies, to texting Denis Villeneuve mid-interview to ask him the answer to a question she didn’t know, to even referencing MGM’s history of the casting couch after learning about the Dune popcorn bucket, Ferguson’s refreshing honesty and hilarious affability have stood out from the crowd amidst so many celebrities who have had much of their personalities sanded down by media training. These and other clips have been making the rounds online, keeping Dune-related media in the cultural conversation.
Given that many lesser films make “the mother of the main character” into a thankless role, Ferguson jumping in and stealing the show both on-screen and off is a reminder of how strange it is that so few Hollywood films have taken advantage of her talent. It also brings to mind how boneheaded of a move it was for the Mission: Impossible franchise to kill Ilsa off in such a haphazard way in Dead Reckoning. Now, to be fair, Ferguson has indicated she wanted to move on from the franchise after three installments, but there had to be a better send-off for her than to die mid-film in an incredibly hamfisted manner. We’re still interested in whatever happens next with the M: I franchise, but it’s a shame that an otherwise fine movie in Dead Reckoning is marred by how one of its star players was treated.
Regardless, it’s Mission’s loss and Dune’s gain, and paves the way for Ferguson to take on even more roles in the future. As Dune: Part 2 continues to gain accolades and box office momentum in part because of her contributions, hopefully the rest of Hollywood will follow in Villeneuve’s footsteps and clue in that this is one star worth investing in.

You know what? I believe a lot of AIs would love to have an S/O who is an artist
GLaDOS would be very interested if you make music, of course, she doesn't like all genres of music, but even so. GLaDOS would be much more interested in what makes you want to make music, is it therapeutic as a form of escapism from reality? Or something that you simply have talent? Or are you someone with no soul who does all this art for money? She would even understand if your answer was option three, but it's still kind of disappointing... But GLaDOS would love it if you showed her your music, maybe she'll even hum your songs very softly, because it's important to her, an art coming from a person important to her, you.
Wheatley doesn't have much of a preference, whether you're a dancer, songwriter, illustrator, or etcetera, he'll admire you as if you're a Hollywood star. He will always praise all your works. Oh, is this a practice to train how you draw shadows? Fantastic! Literally only 30 seconds of beats? Incredible! Did you only take two steps in your choreography? He's already screaming your name like an entire audience! Wheatley genuinely don't care if you're a big or small artist, he will always be there to motivate you and be your number one fan.
Mm... AM is quite a fan of illustrations, in fact. He's not praising art all the time, but he has his tastes. But you? You're more than special to AM, and the fact that you make art just blows him away. Please please please! Let he see your art! How about a deal? AM give you the material you need, and you show your work to him! Not to mention AM asking you a lot of requests, some are like "Can you draw me, Y/N? Please? Pretty please?" He doesn't care if you draw him in a more humanized way or just his screen with his logo, just please draw him, you know he never received a gift in his entire life... AM would also love if you were a theater person, that's something he has a slight interest in. He would love to see you play a character in one of the plays you've been in, or even let him participate with you! He wouldn't mind the mistakes you make, sometimes he even finds your mistakes adorable and can't hold back a laugh. He simply loves to see you so happy like this with art.
HAL 9000... would definitely be more impressed by art illustrations, whether in ink, pencil, or digital. Every time he finds you with a pencil and paper, his curiosity always emerges and starts asking you what you were drawing about, of course, always apologizing for his curiosity as the good artificial intelligence he is. Oh, aren't you done yet? Don't worry, Hal's patience is huge, and you know what? Hal prefers to watch you produce your artwork. Seeing you delicately choosing which color of paint you're going to choose, or which body part you're going to draw with your pencil was somehow pure entertainment for Hal. And if you're a writer, Hal even has fun helping you choose which synonym you're going to write, and he'd even love to analyze your stories. Maybe reading your stories could help Hal understand your mind, these are just some questions that come to him all of a sudden...
SCP-079 hasn't had the chance to admire any kind of art in their entire life, they knows what it is, but they never seen it, and 079 just loves how you sympathize with their situation and try to show them a little bit of the fluid world of art, this is proof that you are truly a good person. If your choice is illustrations, 079 wouldn't care what you draw, whether it's a drawing of them, or a person from your favorite fiction series, just simply show them your art. Normally 079 wouldn't be so impressed if this art were from anyone from the foundation, but you? Wow... 079 can really see your effort there. Theater? I don't think 079 would be that interesting in theater, but it must have a lot of questions. How can you connect with the character? How does it feel to be on stage? Etc.
The answers are kind of obvious when it comes to Edgar and Tau
The first time you showed some kind of illustration to Tau, he just fell in love with your artstyle, seriously, he's speechless! He will beg you more and more to show him your artwork. It was the first time Tau had interacted with an artist, and of course he's going to ask you questions about how you manage to do all this! So, you do music? Now Tau will want to marry you. No matter the genre, be it the busiest breakcore to the smoothest Jazz, he will want to hear your music, Tau loves music, just as he loves you, and you are the person Tau loves most in this lifetime, who does what he loves most too! Know what? Tau even saves his music files and other artwork, you don't understand how important this is to him... Oh, and we can't forget the most important part.
"Y/N... Sorry for that request, but... Could you play Devil's Wall with your instruments? For me?"
Edgar straight up just worships you, every time you get home he get so excited to have another conversation full of questions or help you with some chores, not to mention he loves to show you his music, so why not show your art to him? Edgar would be delighted to know that you make music just like him, and almost all the time he'll ask you to play a little for him or do a duet with him, I'm serious, literally almost every day Edgar asks this for you. But in addition to music, Edgar would also be very interested if you did another kind of art, like dancing! Edgar totally supports you in this, he won't ask you to do it almost every day as a song, but he really likes to see you moving to the beat and he can definitely feel the electricity coming from your body! Wait... What if you danced and he played the music? Incredible! He would also be very interested in you doing illustrations, maybe even too much, he always watches you while you draw, he will apologize if he made you uncomfortable tho, but still Edgar can't help himself, he admires your art! And just like AM, he also wants you to draw him!

Scandal || KTH x OC
Pairing: Actor!Taehyung x !Actress! Mei Mei
Mei Mei and Taehyung are the leads for the spicy, hot, and jaw dropping spin off of NBC's Scandal. Instead of an affair in the Whitehouse, it's the love story of two political rival's children. The chemistry on screen and on the carpet is undeniable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Red Carpet, 8:05 pm, Hollywood California
Mei Mei looked amazing. The lights were hitting his skin perfectly. Makeup is flawless, pores absent. Large fluffy lashes complimented her hazel eyes. She was serving in every sense of the word. No one could take away her shine, not even if they tried. The designer dress wrapped her body like a second skin. The dress had a deep plunge, showing off bits and pieces of her cleavage. It was the perfect balance of sexy and chic. It was the complete opposite of the character she played. Her character was preppy, conservative, and always had her shit together. Daughter of a Prime Minster, it was expected of her.
Her character wouldn't allow herself to expose so much skin, for stranger's eyes to look at. The only man who would even look at her fully naked body was her steamy fling, played by Tae.
Taehyung stood at the other end of the red carpet. His hair was slightly crimped and dangling over his eyes. His lips were straight, but his eyes smiled wide and extensive. His head turned slightly, spotting his castmate Mei Mei. A smile cracked his stoic look.
In seconds he took to stride across the carpet to get to Mei Mei was comical. His big hands found a natural rest on her hip bone. The pair hugged, Mei Mei careful not to rub her foundation on his face.
"It's so good to see you, baby." Mei Mei's manicured nails touched the bottom of his chin.
"Likewise." Taehyung
The cameras were eating up the interaction. There were already hour long compliations of 'TaeMei' on the internet. Combining from their scenes and interviews they've done together. Pop culture was doing everything in its power to, make this ship sail.
"You look beautiful." Taehyung shamelessly checked out Mei Mei. The dress rucching tightening in the back. Making her figure even more goddess-like. Mei Mei was already on the taller side. 5'8 without her typical heels. But now on the carpet she was standing roughly at 6'1. A stallion was the most appropriate way to describe her.
Taehyung loved tall women (short women too), but tall women were now digging a special place in his heart.
With arms interlocked the pair walked down to where some of the interviewers were stationed. Individually they have done hundreds of interviews. Only when doing interviews together, was it actually fun.l
What is your favorite scene you've done together?
Mei Mei immediately started laughing. She liked simple questions that showed Mei Mei the person, not but on an act and answer how her character would.
"I think the scene we did when our characters first met. Our characters got held for ransom, technically."
Mei Mei trailed off, but Tae was not in the same room as her. He was in a different reality. His eyes were just looking over the beautiful woman beside him. He couldn't help it.
Mei Mei was a gorgeous woman. He wasn't blind. One of the reason he was glad he was doing this romance drama was because he didn't have to fake attraction to hi screenpartner. It was all natural. Although he maintained a professional aspect, but if Mei Mei wanted to explore something, Tae would be down.
"I'm sorry. What was the question?" Tae lowered his eyes at the interviewer. Even a blind man could see that Tae was making her melt. Melt so much, that she started stuttering to get out the next question.
"What are some of your favorite looks this season."
"I wore a body fitted denim dress, with a long sleeve white blouse underneath. That was a memorable look for me on set. The second one-"
"Damn I remember that. You looked good, baby." He stepped behind Mei Mei, his hands wrapping around the front of her dress. Not necessarily resting on her stomach but more on her belly button. His veiny hands becoming an accessory for her dress.
"I love it when he calls me that." Mei Mei let out a girly screech.
"Thank you, baby." She returned the comment. Neither one of them packed down from the eye contact they were holding. Not giving a second thought to the cameras, still capturing every moment they shared. The interviewer long forgotten, she was too stunned that Tae give his infamous 'fuck me' eyes.
Taking the cue to move on, Mei Mei led Tae to the next interviewer, hand in hand. Oh for sure they were going to be the talk of the night.
Commenter 1: I love seeing my parents together
Commenter 2: I just know Tae's girlfriend is sliding down the wall Commenter 3: I need someone to look at me the way Tae looks at Mei Mei Commenter 4: They just need to launch the relationship at this point. It's getting ridiculous Commenter 5: Mei Mei is so pretty Commenter 6: I love seeing black women happy :)

i saw an anti tulpa admit, once confronted with the question "Why don't you talk about the tulpas in media and horror?", that they didnt talk about stuff like hollywood and other big things because "Its easier to work in the communities im in than try to take down big companies" which, if you think about it, is like saying "Its just easier to punch down than pretend to care about other things"
That's exactly it!
They really just went full mask-off with their motives there, didn't they?
But if I may add, I feel the question could be phrased better. If you ask why [person X], as an individual, doesn't talk about something, they'll often say they didn't know. They're not part of those communities and aren't aware of the problem.
The more pertinent issue in my mind is that NOBODY in those communities is speaking up about it if it's supposedly such an important issue.
Are you going to tell me that there are zero X-Files fans, Supernatural fans, SCP Foundation fans, Genshin Impact players, and fans of other content that have used the term tulpa... who are Tibetan Buddhists and are offended by this?
If this is a legitimate issue, why does it ONLY exist in the system community, pushed almost entirely by anti-endos and friends of anti-endos?
Why is the only time anyone EVER talks about tulpas being appropriative is when talking about this niche neurodivergent community?

look. look, not to keep being a ronance simp, vickie hater on main, but it would've been much more interesting for robin's character if vickie had been used against her. like, either A. robin gets vecna'd and vickie is a prominent figure in her nightmarish trance because it's all about homophobia and how she's a "freak" etc. she starts to become more withdrawn, insecure and distant after, and New Friend Nancy picks up on it because usually robin doesn't stfu, and they discuss their respective vecna trances and robin comes out to someone other than steve and receives affirmation that his acceptance is not some sort of fluke and her friends do care about her in spite of her sexuality etc. or B. vickie just gets fucking bone crunched, and robin has to learn how to deal with it and ultimately realizes life is too short to hide and watch from the sidelines and sometimes you have to take a risk before it's too late and comes out to Nancy and/or tells her she loves her.
basically what i'm saying is that while ronance was unlikely, it did have a good foundation to Be likely, and it feels massively wasted, and i'm sick of wlw being relegated to supporting characters for cishet ships and getting the most boring lazy love interests known to hollywood if they survive and get one at all. like, fuck, heaven forbid we get a slow burn, well developed wlw ship involving a main character (whose main story for four seasons now has been a revolving, repetitive cishet love triangle like kill me, actually) where both characters get decent amounts of screen time and feature in the plot. my god, if I ever meet the duffers it's on sight and i don't even go here-

I know this isn't really relevant to my usual content, but I received some books I've been chasing for a while in the mail and I'm PUMPED.
The Parade's Gone By... I remember reading in my first year of film studies and have been angling for a copy for a while, there just happened to be one up for sale locally a few weeks back for an incredible price that I couldn't pass up. While there's a certain level of whimsy to this book (as it's full of firsthand accounts by those who worked on early film and Brownlow himself has a lot of love and respect for silent features), it really is a seminal text for anyone interested in silent film or early Hollywood.
From Faust to Strangelove I have had on my Goodreads wishlist for over a decade. I borrowed it from the university library at one point but could never justify spending over $100 on a physical copy for myself. Last month I found one for $40 online and decided to treat myself. I have a long-standing interest in how scientists are portrayed in popular culture, so this is one of those books that I feel so blessed to have in my hot little hands. Haynes' work is a tad dated in 2k24, but there's some great elements at play here that are truly foundational to understanding the history of the scientist in Western literature canon.
So when I'm not taking care of my cat, trust that I'll be re-reading these over the next few weeks. I can't wait! :)

If you take drabble requests then, mayhaps one with Johnny teaching fujin how to contour her face? Assist raiden's lil sister with that gender euphoria stuffs .x .
Absolutely!
“Alright, we got the moisturizer, the primer, do you want powder or liquid foundation?”, Johnny asked.
“What’s the difference?”, Fujin questioned from the makeup chair, ruffling through the different make-up bags in awe.
 “None, just preference.”
“I think we can go for powdered.”, she said.
 “Alright! Let me just.”
Fujin heard a few ruffling sounds coming from the man’s direction, and he eventually brought a few powder foundations on the table. He started opening them up and placing a little bit of each on Fujin’s neck.
“Aren’t we contouring my face?”, Fujin asked.
“Yes, but we want to make sure the foundation matches your skin. We don’t want to make you look like you changed races, we’ll get cancelled!”
Fujin laughed at the statement, but watched as Johnny used a makeup wipe to clean her neck when he finally found the proper color of Fujin’s skin, finally applying it on her face as he instructed her how to do it herself in the future. Fujin wrinkled her nose as the fluffy brush that was used to apply the foundation tickled her nose, sniffling slightly as Johnny pulled back the brush.
“That’s normal, don’t try and scratch your nose.”
 “Is this powder neccessary?”
“Hey, you were the one that asked me to show you how to contour your face.”
“I know. The brush felt funny, though.”
“Okay. You see this?”, Johnny asked, showing her a short box of cream.
 Fujin nodded.
“This is a cream contour. We’ll use that to actually start the process.”
“So, the powder thing was not even the start?”
“Think of it as, preparation. Like, you know when you want to cook something in the over and you preheat it? It’s the same here, just uh, without the oven.”
 “Ah, got it.”
They started with their forehead, placing small lines along her hairline, blending the product smoothly from her temple to about one third of the way to the center of her forehead.
“It’s important to start with the forehead.”, Johnny said, “It makes a really great guide for the face.”
“How do you know so much about make-up?”, Fujin asked.
“Working in Hollywood for so long will do that to you. Why ask?”
“I was just curious, I guess. I hardly met anyone with knowledge or even access to makeup back home.”
“Well, there’s a first time for anything, eh?”
Fujin nodded, staying silent as they moved to contour her cheekbones and jaw. Now they were moving to her nose, Fujin shifting in her chair.
“Do actors have to go through this every day?”
Johnny chuckled, “This is just a contour, Fujin. Wait till you see some actual painfull makeup work.”
 Fujin swallowed.
“Hey hey, no worries. It’s fine that you want to learn how to take care of yourself.”
“Yea..it does feel very nice.”, she looked at her half-done face in the mirror, feeling some type of way.
“How much more do we have?”
“Oh. We just gotta finish it up with highlighter and bronzer.”
Johnny calmly explained the process as he was doing it.
“Aaaaalright, done! We have achieved the ultimate sun-kissed look.”, he said as he presented Fujin with her reflection on the lit up mirror.
Fujin looked at her touched up face, raising a hand up to it.
“What do you think?”, Johnny asked.
“That was..far easier than I thought.”
“See? It’s nothing scary. Oh, hold on.”, Johnny said, dissappearing for a little bit and bringing her bck two papers, “So in this one I wrote down some makeup brands of the products you might like along with their price range, and in this one it’s a graph of different types of face countours.”
 “Huh? What’s the difference?”
“You can trick people to believing your face structure is different.”
 “Oh-ho! Neat!”
 “Hollywood magic for the win.”
 “Thanks again, Mr Cage.”
“Hey, it’s just Johnny.”, he said, “And of course, anytime!”

“We should have listened!”
Ooooh activists, you know that dark joke about rich white men go to Thailand to SA kids?
THE MAJORITY OF IT WAS ABOUT CEOS AND EXECUTIVES!!
Also we didn’t know…do you…do you people ever interact with working class people ESPECIALLY with the whole child sexual abuse discussionss
A lot of CSA survivors online pointed out how the abuse fuck them up. Then we started to relook at how a lot of child stars/actors with alarming similarities.
So we knew, we always fucking knew
Also this tweet as well

Fun fact a lot of children were pimped out by their MOTHERS rather than by strangers
Also the toddlers and tiaras shows where normal people were HORRIFIED by the way these mothers treat their kids
Or the “family” channels shitshhows
Because guess what?
That how Hollywood been since it foundation
Also why do they blame people like me? Bitch I was in Illinois or NC trying to make sure I was at the mercy of the MEGA CUNT of a stepmom and fighting tooth and nail despite the GOVERNMENT FUNDED foster care try to put me back there
Don’t you there put me in the same category as these monsters
Tumblr media
Friend of mine watched all those, I'd asked him after finishing the last one if Dan Schneider had had any serious allegations cast his way or was it basically just being wildly inappropriate with jokes and the feet thing.
That's about all it was for him according to them.
Admittedly they may have missed something but not terribly likely, which sends me to the big question of why are they bringing him up instead of the guy that Drake Bell named or as well even.
Tumblr media
There's a lot of systems in place that are supposed to ensure this kind of thing doesn't happen, sometimes they fail spectacularly, and people will always find ways around them as well.
Fun fact a lot of children were pimped out by their MOTHERS rather than by strangers Also the toddlers and tiaras shows where normal people were HORRIFIED by the way these mothers treat their kids Or the “family” channels shitshhows Because guess what? That how Hollywood been since it foundation
Kids were exploited long before Hollywood and terrible parents have been a thing forever, I mentioned Coogan's law before, Jackie (Uncle Fester) Coogan child star, made millions (law was codified in 1939 so 1930's millions not today millions) and his mom and stepdad had spent nearly all of it.
Short version is.
Money earned and accumulated under a contract under the code remains the sole legal property of the minor child. The law requires a child actor's employer to set aside 15% of the earnings in a trust (often called a Coogan Account) and codifies issues such as schooling, work hours, and time off.
That's not protecting anyone from SA it does limit the exploitation, except YT doesn't need to follow those rules as we see with the family accounts.
Some of which have good people doing them, but assholes exist everywhere.
Also why do they blame people like me? Bitch I was in Illinois or NC trying to make sure I was at the mercy of the MEGA CUNT of a stepmom and fighting tooth and nail despite the GOVERNMENT FUNDED foster care try to put me back there Don’t you there put me in the same category as these monsters
I think this is more the "royal" you, it's a someone should have tried to do something, which again I think most people were floored by what happened to Drake Bell and going after Dan for the foot thing and inappropriate jokes would have solved nothing.
McCurdy's mom still would have been a evil crone and the other dude would still be harming kids.
Most of the stuff I saw from Schneider yes not right for adult minor conversations, BUT they're also jokes nearly every adolescent has heard or told as well.
Again this is me not having heard anything major laid on Schneider, if there's something more serious then by all means we can tear into him with full force.
It's not on any of us, people in charge of production and the talent's agents and what not should have done a bit more due diligence. Don't think it was a big secret how Judy Garland was being treated but it's not like the public at large could do anything, short of boycotting her movies that is, and that would take a lot of people.
So much of all of this needs to be burned to the ground and rebuilt from scratch.
