… I’m just going insane about, how during the battle in the last book, Percy had to literally sit on his father’s throne to get his attention, something that almost got him killed.
I’m thinking of how you need to burn something important to you so the gods know that you’re truly desperate for their attention. in such moments of need, the incineration of something so cherished is a poignant gesture, a language that the gods are thought to understand but rarely respond to.
but Sally, oh Sally. all she did was burn ice cream. a random ice cream dessert. it held no meaning for her, it wasn’t even Percy’s. it was devoid of significance, it wasn’t even sacred. she had no connection to it. was it even hers? I think she randomly grabbed it, right?
