Hey, I have two requests, One, can I please get an angsty fic about Crowley falling from heaven, like a fic showing the process of it, preferably on Ao3. And a couple recs for Aziraphale or Crowley raising kids, mpreg is nice I like it, or one where they raise Muriel.
TYSSSSMMMM I LOVE YOU! THIS ACCT ABSOLUTELY AWESOME 10/10!!!
Hello. We have loads of fics on our #the fall and #kid fic tags, so do check those out! Here are a few more recent fics for each tag...
Crowley Falls by A_pile_of_good_things (T)
When an angel Falls, a part of the world dies. It was a truth written in the stars, an immutable law of the cosmos that had held sway since the dawn of creation. And on that fateful day when Crowley plummeted from grace, the world itself seemed to shudder in response to the loss. The demon in the making would later say that he did not as much Fall as Saunter Vaguely Downwards, but that is not the truth. He is a demon, after all, and demons lie. OR A vignette describing Crowley's Fall, while Aziraphale watches. I wrote it for a Fictober prompt no. 2: 'Don't worry, I got you.'
She Gave It A Try (She Closed Her Eyes) by orphan_account (T)
A dreadfully divine creature waits at the precipice of demise, an oxymoronic statement that will most likely never be used again. OR The hours before and after Crowley falls
The Temptation of the Starmaker by koala2all (T)
Crowley wasn't always a demon. Once he was the Starmaker... an angel in Heaven, powerful, innocent, and joyful. Crowley has never told the story of how he was led to his Fall to anyone... well, not the true story, anyway. But when Aziraphale admitted to feeling responsible, Crowley knows the time has come to share that part of himself he's kept secret since Before the Beginning. Remembering how Lucifer Morningstar led him astray will be painful... And even worse, the truth might be enough to push Aziraphale away.
Open Your Heart To The Unexpected by Ombra_la_lupa (G)
Appalled by the sheer stupidity of the nuns, Crowley takes matters in his own (and his life partner’s) hands. “I’m afraid we’re quite definitely closed.” “Aziraphale, it’s me. We need to talk.” “Yes… Yes, I rather think we do. I assume this is about…?” “Armageddon, yes. I’m coming to the bookshop now.” The aforementioned hell spawn chose that moment to start crying at the top of his lungs. “Crowley, is that… Is that a baby?” “Uuuh”, hesitated the demon, looking at the distraught, tear-streaked and bright red little face visible from the open lid of the basket at his feet. “Kinda?”
baby blues by catfishcigarettecard (T)
Aziraphale finds an abandoned baby and can't help but try to rescue the little cherub as best he can. Crowley is dragged along for the ride and shows a rare side of himself.
The Second Coming That Wasn't (Or Was It?) by polymona (T)
Aziraphale is surprised with a chat from God. Crowley is confused as to why any human would just abandon their newborn in front of a bookshop of all places. When the forces of Above or Below find out what has just been set in motion, there will be both Heaven and Hell to pay. If God can be a woman, so can Jesus.

Ok, so, I've never watched any of the qsmp streams, but I read your rambling about it and read your one shots abt it, and uh do you have any advice on how to get into watching the streams? Like where do I start? How to catch up on missed lore? Stuff like that
well there are a lot of different POVs you can choose to catch up on and which one(s) you choose will definitely affect your understanding of what's going on. if you want to just catch up on the primary major story beats overall (federation lore, main egg lore) this channel on youtube has made 3 videos so far summarizing the lore as it goes on. I haven't watched these videos myself so I can't say how accurate they are or if they leave anything important out, but I've heard positive things!
now if you wanna catch up on more individual lore/character dynamics and all that then you're facing a bit more of a challenge. I believe quackity has most of his qsmp vods uploaded on his vod channel so you can definitely check those out for his story stuff. if you wanna understand my fics better wilbur has the smallest number of qsmp vods out of the cc's at least somewhat tied into the storyline so it shouldn't be too hard to catch up on his stuff. his vod from day 1 of the qsmp has one of the funniest moments from any wilbur stream ever (yes I am referring to that moment he was talking to max) but I don't think you need to watch a ton from any of the day 1 POV's after the first hour or so.
while phil is the pov I watch the most for qsmp, he's definitely less involved in the plot. but unlike what I keep seeing some people on twt and tumblr say, he DOES participate in the rp and does care about the lore. he just doesn't go out of his way to get super involved in it and likes making 4th wall breaking jokes. but yeah if you're looking for more lore based stuff, phil might not be a great pov to watch as your primary.
now bad is the english speaking cc most involved in the heavy federation lore stuff, so his vods are definitely good to check out if you're looking for an english speaking cc to watch. jaiden's also definitely tied into it and has her own very interesting plotline going on atm involving the federation, but she doesn't stream as often so there are a few more gaps with her compared to bad who's been daily streaming for months now.
now for the cc's who don't primarily speak english, it's definitely a bit more of a challenge to watch those POVs if you don't speak the cc's language, but when many cc's are in a group they'll usually switch to english since that's the most common language on the server. also there's the translator that most of them have up on their screen, but it's not super accurate and a lot of the time cc's forget to switch it between languages so I don't rely on it much. for lore stuff, cellbit is a great choice because he's been heavily involved in investigating the federation and solving puzzles and all that since he first got on the server. from the french side, baghera jumped into lore stuff pretty quickly too so I highly recommend her pov as well
again I don't know how detailed/what the summary videos do and don't include but if you see clips from certain streams on that summary video that look interesting, I definitely recommend going to the vod itself and watching at least a bit of it. the group dynamic between all the players on the island is so delightful to watch. so many great friendships have formed bc of this server and it's so much fun to watch them grow in real time.
more than anything though when you're trying to catch up, go through the tumblr tag! follow people who liveblog a lot! follow the updates accounts on twitter! I actually don't catch many streams, but I'm usually pretty up to date on the big plot stuff happening on the server at all times just from what I see on my dash. read posts and check out the tags to absorb info via dash osmosis. that's how I caught up on dsmp when I first got into it back in january 2021 lol
hope this helps :)

1, 2, 5, 7, 12, 19, 26, 33, 39 for yet another writing ask game (I tried to pace myself, believe it or not 🤪)
(Mhm, I can see that! XD)
yet another writing ask
1. Which of your fics would you keep the basic plot of but rewrite completely?
Why would you do this to me? Don't I already have enough WiPs on my plate? You know this is only ever going to end one way.
I'd say Prey on the Heart. I do like the descriptions of the setting and the worldbuilding but *pinches bridge of nose* Valtor is SO OOC, I'm in literal pain. I don't know what was going on through my head but oh, boy! Then again, it's been almost three years since then and my understanding of the characters has definitely improved plus my headcanon game has evolved too!... Now I feel the need to add that to the pile of WiPs. I. Am. Mad. at. You! 😤
I'm also definitely touching up the three chapters of Gifts Are Given To Be Taken if I ever get to writing the rest. And same for Have No Name for My Heart. That one is such a downer. 😅 I need to rework the tone completely.
2. Anything that you'd like to write but feel like you're unable to?
In general? Murder mysteries. I LOVE murder mysteries (though I'm somehow way better at identifying the red herring (as such) than the actual culprit)! But they require way too much research and that's literally the bane of my existence. So, uh, yeah... that Scream AU for Winx is probably not going to happen.
In particular I feel that I'm unable to write the Winx rewrite. Like, I want to! I have so many cool ideas that I'm excited about! But I lack the motivation and the sheer size of it scares me. Besides, there are so many rewrites out there that it feels like a waste of time to do that when I can be working on Griffin x Valtor (or a Griffin x Faragonda or Marion... or anyone really) fics, which are... mostly my niche (not to monopolize the ship but *looks at the Griffin x Valtor tag on AO3*).
5. What's a tag you never want to use for your works even when it applies?
I can't think of one? If I don't want something associated with my account, I just don't post it. But I guess, generally speaking, I wouldn't want to tag something if it's spoilers. AO3 luckily has the "creator chose not to use archive warnings" and you can write an additional tag to the same effect if it's a trope you don't want to tag rather than an archive warning.
7. Your favorite ao3 tag.
I was gonna say I didn't have one but I'm afraid that if my answer here isn't angst, you will hunt me for sport. XD You know I love my pain and tragedy.
12. If you write in more than one language, what's the difference?
I write in Bulgarian very rarely anymore. I think the last time was in the beginning of last year and I have only written down a few ideas since then. But the key difference I feel is that I have a much easier time describing things in Bulgarian because the language itself is more descriptive. It's possible that I simply understand it a lot better than English since it's my mother tongue but I have also analyzed some Bulgarian texts and their English translations and while translations can rarely capture the full spirit of the original, I still feel that the Bulgarian language just offers more when it comes to how descriptive words are. Idk if that makes sense.
Another one is that I have a much easier time with varying sentence structure in English. Though, that might be because I've paid special attention to that while I haven't practiced it in Bulgarian... at all.
19. Share a snippet from a wip without giving any context for it.
I want you to know that I have to try so hard to restrain myself from saying at least five different things about this:
She slid a hand between her breasts to touch only flesh instead of her monad necklace that was usually nestled there. Its shine was replaced by the gold she’d threaded into the plunging neckline of her nightgown with her own powers, all on Valtor’s insistence it would bring out her eyes. Despite the darkness trying to creep over her form, a smile was curling her lips at how right he’d been.
A draft disturbed the room, the air moving as if with something shuddering.
Griffin whispered his name. Only once. Like it was some cursed, forbidden knowledge. The power it held was immeasurable – greater than any spell.
Her fingers dipped under her neckline to trace a path for him directly to her heart.
As if offended by its thundering, a lightning tore through the blanket of clouds enveloping the castle.
The flash of light revealed in the mirror a pair of glacial blue eyes, pale skin and maroon fabric that would blend together with her nightgown perfectly if not for the gold threads distinguishing where her form ended and his began.
The darkness surged over the room once again a moment later, greedy, great enough to swallow even him, making it look like she was a lonely island surrounded only by empty air and the hazy glow of her magic. Yet, even that omnipotent cover failed to hide him from her.
He was silent, motionless, not even a gasp of breath coming from him to make the hair on the back of her neck stand on end. The magic that had clung to her day and night had evaporated, leaving only a hollowness behind, a cold that made her shiver as if she’d been thrown out in the storm.
It didn’t matter.
She was dressed for him, in her favorite nightgown she hadn’t worn for anyone else – a tribute to him. She’d only needed to call his name once and he’d come running. He wasn’t leaving here until she was ready to let him go, until all the cards were on the table, everything revealed. No more distant voyeurism and half-lies, only naked truth.
26. What would you describe as OOC?
A behavior or action that isn't properly supported by the previously established characterization. For fics specifically, a character isn't OOC if the story took the time to take them from their canon self to the person that they are in the fic but there has to be a hint at least of why they are the way they are.
33. Give your writing a compliment.
You know, I'm starting to like my descriptions more and more! I'm learning to focus more on the vibes and that makes it easier to pinpoint which parts I need to describe. I was panicking about this one description I needed to do recently and then I ended up getting it almost perfect right away!
39. Wildest AU scenario you have written?
I answered this here.

Since it's been a while since the last fic update (again), here's another short installment of Become the Night 2, which I'm now titling Return to the Night so I can have a separate tag and at least until I think of a better name lol
Return to the Night, Part 3 (Part 1, Part 2, or Ao3)
Elec Man and Turner's apartment was not located in a nice neighborhood. The streetlights outside were dim, and the surrounding streets were empty and dangerous feeling, as though eyes were spying out from the dark, broken windows above.
Turner led Proto up a set of dirty, creaking stairs to a plain door, which he opened with an old key. The lock unlatched with a rusty rasp, revealing a small, dark room.
Proto poked his head inside as Turner clicked on the light, taking in the entire contents with one glance. The apartment itself was very clean, like a secret room within the shabby building, but small—barely more than a studio.
"Two beds?" Proto asked Turner. "Does Elec Man sleep now?"
Shrugging, Turner closed the door behind Proto. "We both do—why? Didn't he always?"
"Not when I knew him."
"Well, he is my prototype—perhaps he was upgraded to be equally as advanced."
Proto took a second glance around. So, Elec Man and Turner were sharing this small space? He briefly imagined sharing a room with Rock, then stifled a rueful smile. Rock and Proto would have killed each other by now. Proto could tell instantly which side of the room belonged to which brother. Turner had the nicer side of the apartment, with a massive wardrobe, standing mirror, rug, and a large bed filled with pillows and a thick duvet. Meanwhile, Elec Man's side was plainly furnished, more like an office than a living space. Elec Man clearly hated acting more human than he had to.
Smiling to himself a little, Proto sat on the edge of Elec Man's twin-sized bed. It had looked like the type of bed that squeaked, but did not, yet that was the most one could say for it, the bed was definitely not more comfortable than it looked. He glanced back at the door. From the way it opened, Turner's side of the room would be obscured, yet Elec Man's bed had a good vantage to shock any would-be intruder.
Turner glared down at Proto. He had re-affixed his superior mobster facade that he had learned from Elec Man. "Well?" he asked Proto in a drawling voice.
"Nice digs," Proto quipped back, standing up and turning around on the spot.
"You're supposed to be looking for clues to find Elec Man," Turner reminded him coldly.
"I am, junior, don't blow a fuse," Proto reassured him airily. His eyes fell upon a small vanity. A large crystal vase packed with fresh white roses sat on top.
Turner noticed Proto's gaze. "From my fans," he explained, his drawl becoming even more superior as he crossed over to the vanity. He pulled one of the roses from the vase and lifted it up to his nose. "You know, because I'm a famous ballet star. Of course, Elec Man says I always keep them too long. He says I get enough roses every night that I don't need to keep the old ones."
"Kiddo, no offense, I'm with Elec Man on this one—those are starting to smell like death."
Turner cast Proto a withering look over his shoulder as he replaced the rose back into the vase. "They do not—not yet, at least."
Just then, something small and silvery flew off the vanity toward them. It gave Proto a small, tut-like beep, then hovered protectively over Turner's shoulder.
Proto blinked, his aviators sliding slightly down his nose. "I don't believe it—is that my valet drone?"
"Your valet drone?" Turner scoffed. "It's my valet drone. You can't have it back, I need it to get ready before my performances. Its name is Winston and it's mine."
"Kid, you can have it, words alone could never convey how much I hated that thing. Besides, my natural style works best for me."
Turner gave Proto a quick once over. "…Perhaps."
'Winston' gave another tut-like beep at Proto, apparently disapproving of his old t-shirt and baggy jeans then hovered off to settle back on the vanity, looking just as haughty as its Syndicate masters.
"Alright, you've had the tour," said Turner, glaring reproachfully at Proto. "You're hardly living up to your reputation as 'Cypher' or the 'Devil of the Underground' or even this 'Break Man' person—whoever that's supposed to be—are you going to help me find Elec Man or not?"
"I am, I am," Proto reassured him as he looked back at Elec Man's space. "Ah, Bingo." Proto settled down at Elec Man's desk chair and booted up a sleek desktop computer.
"What are you doing?" asked Turner with folded arms.
"Looking for clues, remember? Maybe your big bro left something on here that will give us a lead."
"Looking for clues on Elec Man's computer?" Turner scoffed again and rolled his eyes. "I've only tried that like a million times. There's no way to get into Elec Man's computer! He's the best hacker in the Syndicate—maybe the world. He has everything super-encrypted. You can't break in, don't be ridiculous."
"True, I'm not as good at computers as Elec Man, but he taught me some things, like how to get into his files in case of emergency—" replied Proto, as he typed in a few commands, "—And I'm already in."
Turner's brows rose incredulously. "You have his login information?"
"No, but looks like my backend credentials still work."
"Your what?" Annoyed, Turner attempted to shoulder Proto out of the chair. "Let me see—"
Proto pushed him away. "Ah ah ah—if Elec Man didn't give you his login information, he probably doesn't want you snooping around on his desktop."
With flashing eyes, Turner asked frigidly, "Oh, and I suppose it's okay if you snoop through his files?"
Proto shrugged. "Like I said, I have backend credentials, and if they still work—"
"Oh do shut up," Turner replied crossly, pointing his nose toward the ceiling as he spun so his back was turned to Proto, though after a moment, he glanced back, his pale eyes daring to look hopeful as the snideness dropped from his voice. "…Do—do you think we'll find something?"
"Of course we will, junior, and then we'll go find Elec Man," Proto replied cheerfully, though internally he felt tense. And when we do, I'm going to kill that jerk for going missing in the first place.
A few moments of silence passed as Proto scanned the file directory, then Proto frowned as he opened a file with a recent timestamp. He scanned a few lines of text, glanced surreptitiously over the monitor at Turner then away again.
Unfortunately, Turner had been watching Proto like an anxious hawk. "What is it? You've found something, haven't you?"
"Maybe." Proto quickly closed out of the file, then logged out of Elec Man's account. "I have an idea, at least. Elec Man was messing in some pretty serious stuff…" Proto trailed off. He didn't mention that Turner had been part of the plot, that the file had contained key information about their mission orders for the ballet. It appeared Elec had shielded Turner from details.
"Well what are we waiting for?" demanded Turner, his voice rising in panic. "He could be in trouble, or hurt, or—or—"
"Calm down, Elec Man's too stuck up and spiteful to die," said Proto, standing up and striding toward the door. "…All the same, we better hurry."

1D Fanbruary 2023
Tumblr media
So I've been wanting to do something nice for the fandom, but I've also been thinking about how to help the fandom help itself. These ideas have settled into Fanbruary!
Each day during the month of February, you can earn entries by commenting on fics on AO3, reblogging fic posts, or reblogging art posts.
(I am super awful about lurking and not reblogging content myself, so this is definitely something I need to be better at myself!!)
At the end of the month, I will randomly select 7 people. Each person will receive an eGift Card to Redbubble. (I am based in the US, please see the Rules for a note on international users.)
$25
$20
$15
$10
$10
$10
$10
If there are any clarifications needed for the rules, they will be edited into the original post. Chances that I'm forgetting something at the time of writing this post? Eh, 83%.
To submit an entry, fill out this form. Please make sure you have thoroughly read the rules below.
Rules
Limited to the 1D fandom and 1D-related content only.
1 entry per AO3 comment / 1 entry per Tumblr fic reblog / 1 entry per Tumblr art reblog.
DO NOT REPOST CONTENT!! Tumblr entries should be reblogs of an original post from the author/artist of the content.
Art content can be a manip, gif, video, drawing, painting, moodboard, etc. Generally, something that took work to make original.
Each entry must be unique throughout the month. Example: reblogging the same fic (even if posts for different chapters) will not count as multiple entries. Commenting on AO3 and reblogging the same fic on Tumblr will count as 2 entries.
You may not submit a reblog/comment for your own content as an entry.
There is a max of 5 entries per person per UTC day. Please do not flood the form with entries. I won't count any more than 5 per day, please don't make things difficult for me.
Reblogs should include commentary tags in addition to any categorical tags (date, fandom, trope, etc). AO3 comments don't need to be deep or profound but should be more than just keysmashes.
AO3 comments may not be anonymous. I need to know who you are!
If your Tumblr username and AO3 username are different, please make sure that there is an obvious link between them so I know they belong to the same person.
You must allow Tumblr messages or asks - I can't send you a gift card if I can't communicate with you.
I'd prefer to do Redbubble gift cards so that the money hopefully loops back to fandom content creators.
Redbubble gift cards are available in AUD / CAD / EUR / GBP / USD.
I am willing to discuss alternatives with each winner and send a gift card to another company.
This is technically open to all international users, but note that purchasing a gift card for someone outside the US will be tricky. Many cards will only work in the country of purchase (Amazon, Starbucks, etc). I will incur a fee for any currency besides USD.
I am willing to discuss alternatives to Redbubble and winners outside the US but note that I may need to adjust the prize amount to account for currency conversion and fees.

The more pressure there is on creators to tag/warn (aka rhetoric like "its okay if ppl write [blank] as long as its tagged" rhetoric... discord servers that have heavy CW rules... comments/asks requesting certain topics to be tagged...), the less interest I have in actually tagging anything whatsoever.
Movies are a different beast perhaps, but, as an avid reader, I've never stumbled across anything unexpectedly dark or triggering in a book or a fic. The author's opening passages or chapters have always prepared me for the eventual nature of their story. The style, the tone, the synopsis, the foreshadowing — they have never failed to indicate an oncoming scene descriptive or explicit of something dark or uncomfortable. When I stumble across those preparative breadcrumbs the author has left me, it's true that I sometimes feel temporary discomfort... but I'll hit the back button or close the book or exit the app, and that extremely mild unease is soon forgotten. (If it is not forgotten, then I am grateful for the reminder to schedule my therapy appointment or spend time with a friend or find some other kind of tactic to address such unhealthy rumination. And even if I cannot address it, I'm aware that any attempt to avoid it will only worsen my tolerance for uncomfortable encounters in the long term.)
I can sort of understand the pressure in some scenarios. Perhaps a discord server would like to be inclusive of minors without legal repercussions. Perhaps a user is constantly filling a popular tag with triggering material without any warnings or tags. However, there are times when it makes less sense. A discord server dedicated exclusively to darker themes (especially with a small userbase) needn't mandate the use of trigger warnings. A tumblr user needn't tag every mention of "blood" or "vomitting" just to satisfy the possibility of one or two uncomfortable followers.
I support tags. I support warnings. I support information.
As long as it's voluntary.
The use of warnings and categories and tags and 18+ pages is the solution to any need for censorship. However, when such things become an expectation, rather than a choice, this wonderful solution so easily veers straight back to the slippery slope of censorship. "Fic authors should tag for noncon" so easily becomes "authors who don't tag for noncon aren't allowed to write noncon at all," which so easily becomes "authors who don't tag for noncon are abusers themselves." And throughout the process, the definition of what constitutes "noncon" will expand and expand and expand. In this way, the impetus is shifted right back from the reader (who can curate their fandom experience) to the author (who becomes responsible for reader discomfort). I am hardly the first to talk about this, nor is this the best way I've seen it described — but it is a problem that concerns me deeply.
In our interpersonal relationships, I think most of us do understand the difference and agree on the issue. For example, I am triggered by animal death or harm. If I see too much related to the subject, I will be caught in a depressive episode that can last hours or days or weeks. I avoid movies that involve animals, and I religiously check relevant questions on doesthedogdie.com. However, if my friend comes to me for comfort because her pet cat is dying, I do not shriek at her for not considering my trigger or warning me first. Hell, I don't even ask her to stop. I sit there, and I listen, and I support her, because even though it's a trigger for me, I realize that sometimes in life we can't choose the subjects we encounter. We curate our experiences the times in which we can to make room for the times in which we can't.
AO3's option for "creator chooses not to archive warnings" is not a mistake; it's a feature. And as a creator existing in the current state of fandom, I consider using it more and more every day. Your discomfort with my writing's existence is not my problem, and my writing warns for itself.

questions for fic writers #s 1, 2, 3, 12, 13, 14, 23, 26, and 30 :)
Thank you so much!!
Questions for fic writers
What fic of yours would you recommend to someone who had never read any of your work? (In other words, what do you think is the best introduction to your fics?)
Honestly... Taking Flight. It's in by far the smallest fandom I've written for, but that almost works in its favor because it means the fic is able to stand largely on its own without requiring any background knowledge into the Fablehaven universe. And it's my most recent longfic, so it best reflects my current level of skill and writing style from the first chapter. Plus... I'm just really proud of it, and I wish more people would read it
2. Go to your AO3 “Works” page, to the sidebar with all the filters, and click the drop-down arrow for “Additional Tags.” What are your top 3-5 most used tags? Do you think they accurately represent your writing habits?
Angst, Fluff, and Hurt/Comfort are the top three. Makes a lot of sense, most of my fics include a blend of all three at some point
3. What are some tropes or details that you think are very characteristic of your fics?
References to birds, references to music, devoted couples facing the horrors of life at each other's side, and romance alongside fast-paced action or angst
12. Are there any tropes you used to dislike but have grown on you?
Hanahaki! I didn't enjoy the idea that only requited love would cure the disease, since it basically put the weight of a person's life on the other reciprocating feelings that they really can't control. But I've seen a version of Hanahaki that's based on the confession, not the love itself, and I like that a lot more
13. Are there any tropes you used to like but don’t anymore?
I don't know about particular tropes, but I think my characters have become a lot stronger and more self-possessed than they used to be (we're talking like... when I was 14-15 and just getting into fanfic here). I don't think it was full "damsel in distress", but there were definitely a lot more OCs in need of rescue rather than working together to rescue themselves. Idk
14. Are there any tropes you would only read if written by a trusted friend or writer?
I mean... I've only ever read Twilight/vampire fics as written by @nebulousfishgills, and I had to look at a wiki just to know who the Volturi were, if that tells you anything. I don't like Twilight at all, but I really like Nebby's writing style and characters
23. What’s a trope, AU, or concept you’ve never written, but would like to?
Hm... I've had a few ideas for a soulmate AU, but I've never put one down on the page. The closest is Heartstrings, but that doesn't quite count.
26. Would you rather write a fic that had no dialogue or one that was only dialogue?
No dialogue. I explained this in more depth in a previous ask, but I feel like building a scene would get stilted and awkward if it relied on only dialogue.
30. Have you ever written something that was out of your comfort zone? If so, what was it, and how did it affect your approach to writing fic thereafter?
I mean... I feel like I'm always a little bit out of my comfort zone in some way or another. Writing is an exercise for me, so I try to pick at least one character detail or writing style that I need to practice and research so that I'll always be engaged in the story.
I will say that writing Desert Song has definitely stretched me in a lot of ways - there are some darker characters, more intense moments, and a few slightly racier scenes than I usually write, and working myself through those moments I feel has made me more well-rounded as a writer in general. The spicy scenes especially... I still don't write smut, but I've gotten a lot more comfortable with spicier scenes in general, and that's also made me better at other types of emotional intensity in scenes I think

Hi. Saw your opinion on non-canon ships in SVSSS. And I'm curious to what you think about BeefLeaf. Personally, I don't really like the idea very much. There was too much between HX and SQX to ever had a chance or to ever have actual chemistry to be a plausible couple. Idk know where this ship even came from besides the fact that they were sort of introduced together and SQX was the definition of clingy best friend while HX hid his true motives and personal vendetta against the Shi brothers. Also there is a god-awful amount of fics under this tag. Not as much as JWY/LXC 🤮 though.
Just asking if you're familiar with their arc.
Good morning!
I'm not much of a side shipper for MXTX works really, if anything I am simply maybe more dedicated to the potential of Lan Xichen and Jiang Yanli if I were to explore something in tandem with Wangxian. But I have to say that's really the most I am willing to really stick effort into for a transformative fic project.
I myself was more... interested, I guess, in the relationship in general for Beefleaf as it was in the story than anything else about TGCF.
Even from the point of it being a strange almost friendship Shi Qingxuan thought it was, and what He Xuan also wanted it to be in the midst of his own hate, vindiction and connection to him in turn. Plausibly, in the story itself, no I don't think there is any chance of an actual romance, as He Xuan has a lot of feelings to work through with what his hate against his love of Shi Qingxuan as a person vs the enemy he was for centuries in his mind. He Xuan was committed to the to see Shi Qingxuan as an end to a means. But, Shi Qingxuan also became more to him, and I think that is the thorn for it all.
He Xuan did end up caring more for him, than I think Shi Qingxuan even knew, and that's why they can't ever really come to an understanding. They hurt each other unintentionally and intentionally. Shi Qingxuan still sides with Shi Wudu after how much attention he gave to He Xuan. And He Xuan still wanted the Shi brothers to fall together despite what yearning he had, whatever it was, when he was with Shi Qingxuan. Yet He Xuan is still the one to follow him even after he has fallen to mortal. He Xuan is the most interesting party here, as time and again he almost gets what he wants yet tragedy follows him constantly despite his choices.
He killed the one person that Shi Qingxuan was willing to do anything for, someone arguably very vile to He Xuan. It's hard to come to terms that someone you have cared about, does not care for you as much, and has someone else already they would protect so much. It's He Xuan's yearning to be wanted by someone that doesn't even know how much he has hurt him, that is really haunting.
In that way a romance lens makes sense. But I also think there is so much to think about anyways, as these are two people who constantly missed the other while having the chance to be close, if not for awful circumstances from before never letting them be real friends. It does not need to be about romance, to still see all of the missed what if's if things had been different, but that's not the world that MXTX explores in her works, and all vindication has it's regrets when that's what one of her characters is obsessed with.
Yearning as well, can be a scary thing that haunts you.

Hi Tibby! I saw your post that Casey McQuiston was originally a prolific fanfic writer of AG/JE rpf. I had heard that they were a prolific rpf writer…but for a different fandom. More specifically Harry/Louis from 1D. And that they were one of the mysterious authors of the legendary These Inconvenient Fireworks.
I find it interesting that it’s a well known rumor that they wrote rpf, but there are differing details about which fandoms they wrote for. Though in this case, they heyday of the social network fandom was ~2010 (afaik) and 1D fanfiction peaked closer to 2014 (though TIF was written in 2012). It’s definitely possible they wrote for both.
Just curious about your thoughts on the matter 😏
hi ariel! i have never been involved in the 1d fandom, so i can't say if i know anything about the (in)famous fics within it. my knowledge begins and ends with the after films being based on harry styles/oc rpf. so i cannot offer any answer there.
i WILL also say that i cannot say with any certainty that rwrb is in fact jesse eisenberg/andrew garfield fanfiction. i just know that casey mcquiston was a prolific tsn writer back in the day, and the american guy and british guy falling in love is a very funny coincidence to me. and also that reporter guy had STRONG justin timberlake energies. honestly i've spent enough time in tsn fandom to pick up on which character was meant to represent who, but for all i know the same can be said for 1d fic or whatever.
i've also had people in the tags of that post claim that rwrb was based on a merlic fic, so who knows for sure. i personally don't think that the story itself was originally fic, but that casey was simply inspired by. certain actors or characters when writing their leads.
anyway. i didn't expect my posts to get any kind of attention outside of my immediate mutual circle, which is primarily compromised of people i know and many of whom already had the rpf knowledge. i just find the whole thing funny, and as a tsn stannie it's just something i like bringing up because it makes me laugh. i don't particularly care about fic writers becoming authors or rpf being made into movies, because. well. shit happens, it makes money, tsn is virtually rpf and one of my favourite movies of all time. there are much better hills to die on.
i am just of the opinion that if rpf/fanfic IS going to continue to be made into movies then they need to commit to the bit. cast the actual person it was based on. if that meant we needed jesse and andrew, or harry and louis, or the two guys from merlin to be the rwrb leads...then so be it. we all know it's fanfiction and possibly rpf anyway. why not take it all the way?

also honestly, girl at an all boys school has been such a common trope for YEARS like. i know not everyone is insane like i was and went through a gacha phase but the fandom was literally 1/5 built off a girl mc in an all boys school trope. obviously we were all kids when we made it so gacha mvs weren't the best for the portrayal of nuanced, gendered issues or specifically, proper handling of misogyny for the matter but like. the theme itself definitely not weird as bad as people think. yuu literally got their asscheeks yoinked to an alternate world them being a girl is the least of their concerns. if any thing, it can be more interesting to see how characters differently interact with yuu and come to build positive, intimate and meaningful relationships with her especially as guys who have had limited interactions with girls, so both yuu and the characters learn from each other putting aside the main character development in the storyline. adding onto the feeling of the divide yuu would feel at the beginning as someone who's both from another world and of another gender in nrc. these girl in an all boys school plots often end up as a harem story where the mcs are just a blank slate in the character drama. and i hate it cause most of the times it ends up perpetuating the notion that guys can never be friends with girls due to romantic or sexual interest electing the girls as either someone to possess in a relationship or someone not suited to them at all, just generally being misogynistic pricks, or actually being a decent friend to a girl is humiliating and a sign of inferiority. or girls just aren't as interesting. my best friend is the lesbian to my gay twink and building relationships with people fundamentally different than you can be so, so beautiful and fulfilling. i love seeing girls and guys just being HOMIES!!! seeing fem yuu's learn and stumble and grow with the nrc and just. overall people drawing and writing their yuu's with their favorite character is like fuck, speak your truth man. to be honest i was mainly speaking about the inexperienced first years but just any character. malleus, lilia, vil, etc etc. let's go yuu nation
tdlr its a really intriguing dynamic and allows for a lot of possibilities a fan could think of. masc yuu's are great, gn yuu's are great, fem yuu's are great. some twsties need to LET OTHER twsties just enjoy their whimsical thoughts.
YES YES YES YES EXACTLY AGREEING WITH ALL OF THIS!!!! having a girl in an all boys school or a boy in an all girls school has been a trope for years, and sure sometimes it is used for uh. fanservice. but when it is properly explored it can be a really interesting trope!
i saw someone say once (before yuuka came out) that there shouldn't be an official fem yuu because then the studio would HAVE to canonize a yuu ship which is soooooo. firstly why would having a fem mc mean that you have to ship them with someone, and secondly what about the studio implies that they would ever do that, and thirdly what an ass backwards misogynistic take, and fourthly you have to understand that f/m and f/f ships are not lesser than m/m. please LKAHSDFLKASDHFLKH the lengths people go to to justify not liking fem yuus. i laugh but it sucks going in the twst tags sometimes because people are so mean its depressing.
nyeah i feel like fandom is a bit like. too romance focused. people can do whatever the hell they want forever ofc! i like shipping also! i am known to enjoy an reader insert fic! i buy romance novels and play otomes all the time ajksldfhlakshdfasldhf but it sucks when its all that there is yknow. i love pushing dolls faces together to make them kiss but sometimes i would also like to play something else.
i also wish there was less disdain towards different yuus. like man we're all stuck in disney anime boy hell can't you guys suffer with dignity like the rest of us instead of being mean. we should all hold hands and imagine our favorite characters together.

So I know we're slipping into Saturday in this timezone, but I nevertheless have a question!
What's your relationship to dialog? Because I have had a variety of opinions from writers: some love it, some hate it. Do you like writing it? Is it easier to write than the rest or harder? Do you have opinions on dialog tags? On written accents and language quirks?
Sorry if this is all vague, the gist of it is: tell me about your approach to dialog. I'm asking because I really liked the dialog in your latest FPA fic.
Good luck with your current project and thank you!
Thanks for asking, I'm still happy to answer this on a Saturday lol
Also, I'm really flattered that you liked the dialog in my fic <3
This is such an interesting topic and I think I have lots of opinions! I would say there was definitely a time when I would have said dialog was my least favorite, but I think it has changed. I'm still struggling with it sometimes, especially if I need a character to give a certain piece of information to another character for plot reasons and I don't want them to sound dry. That still feels pretty hard.
But sometimes it's actually the dialog that comes to me first from a scene and then I make sure to write it down immediately. I think it also makes it a bit easier to see if it flows naturally if you only have the dialog next to each other and nothing else. Also maybe my brain hacked itself into daydreaming up some dialog because I found it hard lool
I also really like banter-heavy scenes in media (you know, the FPA has plenty of good lines for example), and that both motivates and inspires me to try to get the dialog right. It can also be fun once you learn how a particular character talks. (Although I do tend to second-guess myself every once in a while.)
Writing in first POV also indirectly helped I think because when you write the narration you are already closer in tone to how that character speaks, if that makes sense?
Writing different English accents specifically is very hard for me I think, because I never got a lot of exposure to them irl. And because of previous fandoms I know how it looks when someone does it really well (looking at you @geekinthefuschiahair sorry to tag you in a random discussion but this question made me think of how you writing Jamie's Scottish accent always filled me with awe and humility lol)
With the punctuation of dialog and the different language quirks around that I'm not picky. I don't know if you agree as a fellow European but I feel like since we get exposed to a lot of languages in our lives minor things like how someone signals the start of dialog just don't seem like a big deal? What I mean for example is that I ordered three books of the Dresden Files series and it took me actual DAYS to notice that one was the UK edition and had single quotes instead of double quotes around dialog lool I just opened both and went "yeah, looks about right" lmao
It's funny because I know that people can be extremely picky about that.
But if you read books in different languages growing up I think it's not that difficult to adjust to punctuation.
Actually, I think when I translated my first fic to English and put it on AO3 I used the Hungarian way of doing the dialog with EM dashes (I can sense some people shuddering right now) because I didn't know any better. I edited it since ofc lol Then because I got into Outlander and because I lived in the UK for a while I tried using single quotes, but then I had a lot of American fandom friends and decided to spare their eyes lol
So that is to say, I'm not picky about that. As long as you tell me who is speaking, I'm fine. Which is more of a pet peeve of mine. As a writer, you obviously know who is talking. And then sometimes you think oh I don't want to overuse a character's name or "he said/she said'. But I think that's a myth and you can't overuse that stuff. It's repetitive but I think when you read your eyes just glide over those phrases and it doesn't take you out of the scene. But if you have to stop and try to figure out who's saying what that is a lot more tedious in my opinion.
Alright, well I clearly had a lot to say about that so thank you for those excellent questions! xx

Twenty questions for fic writers
thanks for the tag @blackdalek! I feel like i maybe have not written enough for these answers to be that interesting but i'm going to do it anyway because fun!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
Three. Although there are two other fics on fanfic.net that I never moved over to AO3. Full disclosure, I don't go by this url on AO3 or ffn because when I started writing fic i was still closeted even to this tumblr blog, which seems insane in retrospect LOL (also I have a lot of IRL friends on this blog now who don't need to go reading my fanfic. I guess that is where i draw the line XD so if u are an IRL maybe ignore the rest of this post. or don't - read on at your own risk lmao)
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
47,860 words
3. What fandoms do you write for?
OUAT - Swan Queen (although I have not written for them in about 9 years soooo. I should really fix that. but let's be real, I do not write very often in general)
Supergirl - General Danvers
Grey's Anatomy - Meddison
there are other fandoms that I definitely started writing things for and then abandoned before I even posted anything. Oh I did write Rizzoli & Isles fic a lot like 10 years ago but never posted any of it except for a crossover fic that still lives (and will die) on ffn. In retrospect that fic was v problematic due to copganda.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
lol I only have 3 fics on AO3 so guess they are my top 3.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to! Although I have not been lately because lately they're all like "I love this fic hope you come back to it" and um I can't really say if I will come back to it or not! I would like to, buuuut it's far more likely that when I start writing again it'll be something new. Who knows though! I am definitely at a better position in life to start writing again now than I have been for the last 2 years.
6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
well... I think i've only completed two fics ever LOL the first was a pretty fluffy one shot (i think... idk it was ffn era so who remembers). Rooftop Negotiations is pretty angsty in general but it does have a hopeful ending (and I prevented Astra from dying so how angsty could that really be XD)
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I think all of my fics are intended to have happy endings, but they're for the most part unfinished so I couldn't say which would be the happiest ending.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Hmmmm I cannot remember if I ever have. It depends what you consider hate. I did get a very weird comment on one of my fics by someone who was really aggressively angry that I had abandoned it. So that was weird. I also got some criticism on that crossover fic I previously mentioned and yeah in retrospect that criticism was well founded.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
heh heh not usually but I can think of one scene that I wrote. If I ever continue my multichapter meddison fic I will have to decide if I want to write smut or not. I did rate it M so...
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Oh the crossover. Look, when I first started writing fic it was just me and my tumblr friend emailing a google doc back and forth, alternating each chapter, writing only for ourselves with no direction planned and no intention of posting it anywhere. And yes, we loved a crossover. Mostly it was Rizzoli & Isles and OUAT crossovers but my co-writer loved to introduce new crossovers without warning so those fics got out of control very quickly. But the first fic I ever posted was a crossover (again Rizzoli & Isles and OUAT). Can anything really be considered a crazy crossover though when OUAT is involved? the show itself is a crazy crossover.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
not as far as i know!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not that i know of (although I did start writing a fic in another language once. I never posted it though)
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
uh the unofficial never posted fics mentioned above LOL
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
probably still Swan Queen tbh. I will never be over them. I feel like I have devoted my whole adult life to them.
15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Can I go where you go?
I sooo want to finish it. Writing that fic was the most disciplined I have ever been with fic writing and the only reason I stopped was because I moved across the country, started a new job, and got into a new relationship all at the same time and life was chaos for 2 years.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I *think* I am good at dialogue. I can usually hear a conversation between characters in my head and when I write dialogue I'm really just like transcribing what they're saying.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
description kills me. I cannot keep track of character's movements through space, I generally don't care about what their surroundings look like so I forget that the audience might want to know. My ideal fic would just be written like a play where I only have to provide the spoken lines and no other information or direction.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I don't think I've tried other than the time that I tried writing the entire fanfic in another language. I have read many a SQ fic that sprinkles Spanish dialogue in for Regina and tbh it is so hit or miss as to how well it works that I dunno if I ever would try it.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
OUAT/Rizzoli & Isles (was a crossover lmao)
20. Favorite fic you've written?
at this point, Rooftop Negotiations because i actually finished it and succeeded at staying within the scope of what I set out to achieve. and for what that was, I think I implemented it all quite well.

WIP Wednesday Game
(tagged by @sharpbutsoft,thank you <3)
It’s WIP Wednesday, time for a little accountability, sharing your work, and getting a kick in the pants.
Here’s how it works:
In a reblog (or new post w/ rules attached), post up to five (5) filenames of your WIPs; not titles, file names.
Post a snippet from one of them. Snippet must be words you wrote in the last 7 days. We’re posting progress here. If you haven’t made any, go make some and come back to post!
After you’ve posted, people can send you an ask with one of your file names. You must then write 3 sentences in that file. If the filename is one you can't share from (for example, an event fic), write 3 sentences on it anyway, and then 3 more on another to share.
wips
steddie week 2023 ((i know it's way past steddie week but this particular prompt im working on got out of hand))
i think i've loved you before
monster stobin - creepshow

snippet
It was obvious where the creature had come through, even if the gate had closed behind it, deep gouges in the soil like something dragging itself free. There were scratches on the stone too, made by something thin and sharp. Claws, Jim guessed, holding his hand up against them and tracing his fingertips down the stone. “So, what do you think it was?” Harrington asked, head turned to look through the trees, baseball bat slung over his shoulder. The nails were crusty and rusted, dull from use, the wood splintering slightly around where they had been hammered through. Jim wondered how it hadn’t broken yet, if maybe it had and he’d just made another.  “I have no idea.” Jim admitted, moving his torch down and squinting harder at where the stone met soil. There was a thick layer of mould, interwoven like the thin membrane of a bat's wings and Jim sighed. “It’s definitely the Upside Down, though, look at this.”
steddie week 2023 (technically titled ''let me rest (i need to be loved)" but hey)
i genuinely don't know who to tag so i'm just..not. sorry. thank you for tagging me though <3

hi yes hello it's me again. so I'm working on my dream of the endless™~ playlist.. and I was looking through this BROODS album that I liked a lot and... just. just look at this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
uugghh Dream just being so overwhelmed after everything and going to Hob.. and Hob's just. Over the moon that Dream feels safe enough with him for comfort.. the bridge is especially destroying me cause like - of course Dream would beat himself up abt needing comfort in the first place and he can't stop thinking abt all that needs to be done and- AAHHH Hob just gently pulling him out of all that, if just for a moment...
I love fics with this premise and now I have a SONG to go with them???? I'm in shambles.
here's the song btw :

My #1 post of 2022
It appears the last two (2)….times I’ve tried creating this post, tumblr thought I was too wordy, so I’m going to attempt to get in and get out before it eats itself again
this playlist (a Dream of the Endless™ character examination via my silly brain and sad ass music) took me entirely too long and I'm going to throw my laptop out of the window if I have to look at it any longer so pls pls take it and I hope that if you listen or even read the lyrics that you find something new, or hear something you like.
This absolutely would not have ever seen the light of tunglr.hell if not for the beautiful souls of the Sandman fandom, and a few of my new friends and mutuals. So special internet cookies and hugs to these inspirational, encouraging, and beyond talented individuals; @wordsinhaled , @weirdfishy , @wizardofgoodfortune , and @xx-vergil-xx - i love y'all dearly and I hope this is even HALF of what you would have expected, or a quarter of the amazing content y'all have bestowed upon my lil eyeballs. Now Onward! to words that personally injure me!
Florence + The Machine -Too Much Is Never Enough
And the crown, it weighs heavy
'Til it's banging on my eyelids
Retreating in covers and closing the curtains
One thing's for certain, oh
A year like this passes so strangely
Somewhere between sorrow and bliss
~I first encountered this song in it's source material FFXV, and there it destroyed me. Now, wearing my dumb lil blorbo glasses yet again, it is back with vengeance..goth royalty sad wet cat flavored (gross), vengeance. "too much is never enough" .... oh sweeties...
Oh, who decides from where up high?
I couldn't say "I need more time"
Oh, grant that I can stay the night
Or one more day inside this life
VIRA - God Complex
God, I could try
To be the one
To be the one
I'll tear down the sky
What do you want?
I'll do it all for life
My love, my alibi
Tonight, tonight
I'll try to do it for you
~pretty sure this is the angriest sounding song on this thing? but it is fitting.. and desperate.. and wanting and... painful. when she grits out 'try' and 'sky' the way she does.. god the emotion. this just brought to mind Dream and falling for someone hard enough to the point of destructive devotion...
I'm gonna be where you are
Doesn't matter how far
Because we are meant to be
I'm gonna be what you need
Darling, please worship me
Unless you prefer to plead
AJJ - Body Terror Song
~ I love seeing people explore the idea of Dream just...not vibing with being fully corporeal. At least not in the way he is while in the Waking.. what a mood, and especially after the fishbowl...whew.
It will betray you
Be used against you
Then it will fail on you, my dear
But before that, you'll be a doormat
For every vicious narcissist in the world
Oh, how they'll screw you all up and over
Then feed you silence for dessert
Philip Wesley - Lamentations of the Heart
[Instrumental~]
~I wanted to include a few instrumental tracks in here and this one felt apt because I used to fall asleep to this album all the time. Like it was one of the only ones I could fall asleep to with any certainty. The feeling and title for this one tho struck me with Dream specifically so I went with it. The rest of the album is so nice though, highly rec.
Iris Lune - Paper Mache
~ this song!! it sounds so so ethereal and her voice is GORGEOUS but the lyrics!! have mercy the lyrics! big ole owwie! "save me from myself" , "make me believe that I can change, make me believe that I'm not strange" hhhh (also if y'all couldn't tell, this will be dreamling flavored, I think I'll tag them too jic but. yes...)
Save me from myself
I've been in the dark too long
Paper mache love
Make me believe that I can change
Make me believe that I'm not strange
At all
Penny and Sparrow - A Kind of Hunger
tremble, recognize the distance
Go try and murder every preference
I’ll keep hangin' ‘round for reference
come care about me
come care about me
~this is... such a heavy song. hadn't heard it before starting this playlist but found it and immediately had to add it.. just. come care about me. changing, watching you with wonder. Dying is just a kind of hunger. that line specifically. -lays on the floor for 3hrs-
changing, watching you with wonder
you’re less and getting even younger
dying is just a kind of hunger
come care about Me
come care about Me
Carly Rae Jepsen - Gimme Love
~originally was gonna be a joke song to lighten the mood but haha! nope! I mean it is lighthearted but it still absolutely, in my mind, fits Morpheus. beautiful babygirl of the endless...smooch
Gimmie love (Oh)
It's the way we are together (Oh)
Wanna feel like this forever, forever (Oh)
It's the way we are together
And I never thought I'd ever say forever
Jon Bellion - Stupid Deep (Acoustic)
~this song fucks me up! 😀 for real though, I highly suggest watching the acoustic performance of this that he has on youtube cause the vibe is so.. intimate and dreamy and gorgeous.. and the lyrics.. jon bellion, sir.. smh.. the ending..
What if who I hoped to be was always me?
And the love I fought to feel was always free?
What if all the things I've done
Were just attempts at earning love? Yeah
'Cause the hole inside my heart is stupid deep, oh, stupid deep

2) What is your favorite fic of yours?
3) What fic of yours do you think is underrated?
6) Do you outline your fics? If so, how?
8) Do you take inspiration from real life? If so how do you incorporate it into your fics?
Oh hey anon!
2) So, while I don't really have any comfort fics, but one series that lives rent free in my head is Caged Robins by independent_variables. Here's the description:
Caged Robins don't sing, they beat their wings against the bars.
Or:
Jack Drake meets Robin.
And another favorite of mine is 16 November 1581 by DairyFarmer. If you like Good Dad Bruce fics and you like hurt/comfort, this is for you. It's just, a stellar fic all in all. Tw for child abuse, though. Description:
Bruce blacked out. He wasn’t sure what happened after those words left Jack’s mouth. All he knew was that the next thing he remembered was being pulled off of Jack Drake by several police officers.
----
Tim goes missing and there were times that Bruce wished he wasn’t such a good detective.
There's a lot more fics from a few different fandoms I could rec if people were interested, but these are ones I've remembered and read Recently. shoutouts to
the ENTIRE Where's My Goddamned Dinosaur series by njw (18+ yall)
Loading and Aspect Ratio by JUBE514
M&M by Impravidus
The Entirety of Liminal Spaces by Calamityjim
Worlds Finest Three by SuperRobinSmash (18+ yall)
Whatever Happened To Tim Drake? By TinHatFlash (READ THE FUCKING TAGS YALL). I frankly consider the best example of an honest to god Greek tragedy that I've ever seen in modern writing (and I WENT TO SCHOOL FOR THAT SHIT) because every "mistake" the characters make is an action that have no choice but to make because they are who they are and they're trying to do the next best thing in a horrible situation and it is an ever-evolving downward spiral. Seriously, I cannot sing enough praise for this fic.
Additional shoutouts to Heartslogos, Petra, and Teland, who's fics dragged me, joyfully, into this fandom, what with my then-limited-to-Teen-Titans-Cartoon knowledge of dc comics, and honestly so many others who's names I recognize, but can't pull from yhe top of my head right now.
Ok ok,
3) so, the first thing is I actually have irl friends who follow this account, so on the off chance they see this, I'm not gonna talk about my own works, *but*, I do think that one of my short-story/longfics is over-rated. It's got 2 chapters, is unfinished, hasn't updated in years, is full of mistakes and stilted sentences, is frankly a longfic i didnt commit to and need to seriously rework before i continue, and it has as many kudos as all my other works. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful for all of them, and I'm really happy that the story made so many people happy! I just think it's definitely one of my rougher pieces, and hopefully now that my schedule is even-ing out i can finally dedicate some time to working on that.
6) yes and no, sometimes I get an idea and inspiration for a short fic and am writing whatever comes to mind in a matter of minutes, and finish it in a caffein induced haze within the week. Sometimes I write a full NotFic (a beat sheet, if you will) and never write a full story. Sometimes I write a notfic, edit it a couple of times, then write a fic. Sometimes I copy/paste the thing into a new doc and just restructure the sentences into the right perspectives, paragraphs, and descriptions, and Bam! Story. And sometimes I do an actual point by point outline of "these are the beats I want to hit, the how doesn't matter, just figure out the details as you go and Get To This Place, and that's the kind of thing that usually leads to my fics that deal more with emotional trauma than anything else, I want the characters to feel a certain way then interact with each other, and I ask myself how I can bring them to that point. The story usually builds itself after that.
8) Oh yeah, all the time. I started writing by writing poetry to express myself, and the media I consumed was, generally, along the same vein. As a kid I liked pieces that were both escapism, and something that tackled my day-to-day problems. So give me magic and dragons, but give me academic pressure and strained interpersonal relationships, too. To this day, that is still my taste in media. I use fiction-writing as a way to vent my own thoughts, emotions, and traumas. I'm always inspired by the world around me, in that sometimes i see a pretty dress and have to think "do I want to wear this dress, or do I want to see a pretty girl in this dress?" And then write both. Sometimes I go "man, that was fucked, Imagine if I made a fictional character go through that too?" And then make the character go through something infinitely worse, yet still come out on top. In that sometimes I find that I'm writing a lot of a trope I enjoy, and then I start examining what about the trope i like, and nine times out off ten some other long-forgotten trauma comes flying out of the woodwork. When I'm writing, I'm doing it to tell a story, yes, but also to examine some aspect of people. Their inner thoughts, the way we interact with each other, our wants and needs, how we treat each other in a society l, and why some normal human things are taboo when the same society allows atrocities. I don't necessarily think stories need to so much have a progression as they need to simply convey something to the reader, much like poetry, and I think that really impacts my writing.
Anyway, sorry that was so long! I have a lot of feelings about fanfic 😂 thanks for the ask nonny!!!
