I wanna make a “third day out here” joke but everything kinda sucks real bad so it’s actually crochet update time:

I redid the cow I took apart and I’m much happier with the proportions

All the parts for the bat are done, proportions are adorable, and button eyes picked out

The blanket squares are officially finished and all accounted for I just have to sew them….

Haven’t sewed the pieces of my cow child together but I’m already making her accessories. (god has cursed me for my hubris so my work is never finished)

Planning a green cardigan for me and my new child and then some other accessories for her using left over yarn from other completed projects

It’s amusing to Miguel- this little portion of your personality.

He’d been surprised the first time he was over at your apartment and it was time to wake up- but now, a little over three weeks after that initial day, you’re at his apartment and he’s come to realise that this is your ‘allotted grumpy time.’

He’s been fiddling with some sketches for new suits and new transportation centres for the anomalies that you find as the sun rises. 

Miguel’s an early riser- something he’s sure you’ve attributed to his grumpy disposition. Always telling him, ‘It’s because you don’t let your body rest so you get grumpy halfway through the morning’.

Your alarm is going to go off in ten minutes and he finds that he’s eagerly awaiting it. 

The soft tunes of waves crashing comes from your phone; your groan follows it immediately. Miguel bites back a smile. 

You’re facing the halfway opened curtains, little streams of light pouring through the window as the sun stretches to the top of the sky. Miguel suspects that doesn’t help you fall back asleep as you try burying your face back into your pillows. 

“Sol,” he whispers, pencil in one hand as the other scratches at the nape of your neck. “Es hora de despertar.” 

Your hand finds his at the back of your head and you remove it with a little more force than he had been expecting. 

“No,” simple and final.

He leaves you be, knowing you’ve another alarm in five minutes that usually does the trick. As Miguel waits for it, he moves to his kitchen, setting the kettle to boil. 

Your grumbles find him in the kitchen and he smiles at how annoyed you sound. 

You stomp your way to the bathroom, and ten minutes later you emerge wrapped in your towel, your face is glossy so Miguel can only assume you’ve showered and done your skincare routine. 

Your frown doesn’t go away though.

“You alright there, grumpy?” he asks as he catches a glimpse of you getting dressed. 

“M’not grumpy,” you deny as you put on a pair of sweatpants and a tank top- as a second thought you pull a sweater off the hanger and drape it over your arm. You don’t have much tactical training today, so you’re opting for comfort. “S’early.” 

Miguel meets you in the living room with a mug of tea for you and one of coffee for himself. “You set your alarm, Sol.” he reminds you and you cast a scathing glare at him. He wants to laugh because you look the exact opposite of scary.

No one would believe him if he even muttered the words, ‘Oh they're not a morning person,’ or if he even insinuated that you could be grumpy. Not even Lyla. 

“How are you not grumpy?” you ask him as you take the mug from him and take a sip. 

Miguel shrugs, setting his coffee down as he gets a pair of socks and your shoes for you. 

“Maybe we’ve swapped places for the day,” it’s unnatural even for him to say but it pulls a snort from you and that makes him feel a sense of accomplishment.

“Or maybe you’re an anomaly,” you joke, reaching a finger to pinch and poke at his cheek as he fits your socks and shoes on for you. Miguel bites the tip of your finger as it comes close to his lips, smiling when you let out a gasp that turns to a giggle. 

“Ready?” He finishes off his coffee with a couple sips as he waits for you to pack your tote bag- it’s filled with mostly tactile stuff, like your crochet needles and yarn, a sketchbook and one of the little cubes that Miguel had designed to help with your thinking, and then your tablet with all your notes on it. 

“Miguel?” 

“Yes?” He holds the door open for you. 

“Do you think you could help me with the new design for the web shooters? Something’s off, but I’m not sure what.” 

He grabs his own tablet and a yoghurt freezie and hands it to you. 

“I can, amor. Will you come have lunch with me or will you be with Jess and Margo?” 

You laugh at how offended he sounds, “No I’ll have lunch with you. You missed me too much yesterday. Lyla told me how you were even grumpier than usual.” you’ve already eaten half of the freezie when you reach the elevator. Miguel only shakes his head, plotting to figure out a way to get Lyla to not tell you everything about him.

— COSMETICS

Use bar soap instead of soap bottles

Use old toothbrushes for cleaning surfaces

Try exploring and researching some homemade face/body/lip products

Use ice sleeves, sunglasses, and caps instead of sunscreen (Edit: I’ve seen people say that it is safer and even necessary to wear sunscreen at all times so try to use eco friendly sunscreen instead! In my country it’s pretty uncommon to wear sunscreen often as we usually wear ice sleeves which is why I did not know this oof)

Use coffee grinds or homemade tumeric masks instead of cosmetic products with exfoliator beads

Invest in a metal ear cleanser instead of cotton buds

Try placing more importance on skincare instead of contributing to exploitative beauty companies by buying makeup

Use cosmetic products that do not contain palm oil

— CLOTHING

Try as much as possible to rewear your outfits at least twice before washing them

Actually WEAR your clothes! I know some of y’all just wear them once for your Instagram post and let it rot in your closet forever. Stop doing that!

Thrift, stitch up holes in your clothes, and use second hand clothing instead of supporting fast fashion companies like SHEIN, H&M, Zara, etc.

Cut up your old clothing into yarn and do macramè with it

Cut patches of old clothing to turn into reusable cotton pads

Learn how to knit, crochet or stitch your clothes!

If you use tampons, try menstrual cups or discs instead. If you use pads, try reusable pads or period underwear. (Trust me, it works). Also, use reusable panty liners instead of disposable ones. They may seem expensive but you will end up saving a lot more in the long run

— GARDENING

Plant seeds/cuttings in your old bottles, jars, and containers

Propagate your plants and exchange cuttings with your friends instead of buying new plants

Make your own soil mixes instead of buying soil mixes

Better yet, don’t use soil for your indoor plants and try getting into hydroponics or semihydroponics instead. This saves so much water and doesn’t contribute to mining of soil

Fertilise plants with fruit peels, coffee grinds, and tea leaves. (DO NOT use chemical fertiliser on soil)

Plant more legume plants in your garden instead of using nitrogen fertilisers. (Look up the nitrogen cycle if you need an explanation on this)

Avoid pesticides unless really needed. Try sprinkling cinnamon powder on soil or spraying neem oil on plants and soil to keep away pests.

If you have a lawn, try looking into rain gardens and consider making one

Let the (non invasive) weeds in your lawn/garden grow! They are there for a reason!

Stop killing earthworms and millipedes in your garden. This also applies to snails native to your region. They are there for a reason.

Water used to wash fruits and rice can be used to water plants

— REDUCE, REUSE

Use the caps of jars as soap holders

Use recycled paper/notebooks

Wash and dry your glass/plastic items before throwing them in the recycling bin

Keep any plastic bags for future use

Invest in a fabric cup holder

The applause was triumphant, even from the safety of backstage where you were currently hiding. It was better to stay far away from the wings in case Dieter felt the need to pull you on stage. The relationship was still new, so you didn’t want to be subjected to questions by the interviewer.

You gave a little wave as he almost ran up to you. “Hey, honey cakes.”

He moved to kiss you but then noticed the throng of people. Opening the door to his dressing room, he gestured you inside.

“My girlfriend will take off my makeup,” he shut the door behind him. “And anything else you want.”

You smiled off his flirtations as you were distracted by all the colourful bouquets spread around the room.

“That’s a lot of flowers. Are you going to take them all home?”

“Oh, no, they’ll be sent to old folks’ homes.”

“Really?”

“My abuela always loved getting flowers so I’d like to make some other abuelas happy.”

“The more I learn about you Dieter,” you wrapped your arms around him. “The more I fall in love with you.”

He tried to hide his blush, “Do you want any before they go? I know Valentines is a bad time for flowers, but is flowers in general going to trigger you?”

“I don’t know. I’ve never really been given flowers in earnest. It was always this thing which I now know is called love bombing.”

Dieter sighed in sympathy, “Oh yeah, that’s happened to me often. It was always with some trinket and a big fancy bunch of flowers.”

“I only ever got the saddest bunch from the petrol station.”

“He couldn’t even put in the effort? What sort of flowers did he get you?”

“I don’t know the names of flowers,” you looked around and pointed to some that looked familiar. “Those ones I think.”

“Yellow carnations?” he sucked his teeth and shook his head. “Oh, those are a bad sign.”

“They are?”

“Yeah, in floriography they mean disappointment.”

“What-a-what-graphy?”

“Floriography. Have you seen my film As the Petals Fall?” you shook your head. “Me neither. All I remember from the film was the floriography, or the meaning of flowers.”

“Was it a romance?”

“There was a dead body, so I don’t think so.”

“Oh, I may watch that. So you wouldn’t give me those?”

“Fuck no, I’d only give you flowers with a positive message,” he moved over to a bouquet and pulled out some small white flowers. “This is baby’s breath, it’s usually a filler for bouquets but it means everlasting love which I hope we’ll have.”

“Well, if you’re the ones giving me these, I might grow to like flowers.”

And you did.

He would always leave you a single flower but with this singularity came a meaning that was so deep and profound. As your smile reminded him of sunshine he offered you a yellow tulip. After the first time the two of you made love, he gave you blossoms of the sweet pea as it meant blissful pleasure and thanks for a lovely time. He expressed his continued passion for you through a red tulip. Whenever he was away, you knew he was missing you as he’d send a pink camelia meaning he was longing for you, or the red carnation meant his heart was aching for you.

Christmas gave him the excuse to get out the mistletoe, not just because it was a romantically cheesy tradition, but it meant love and friendship.

Once he rediscovered his love for yarn craft, he would crochet anything with flowers so his messages of love could have a more permanent medium. He mostly made granny squares with daisies or roses, the classic expressions of love and now you wore them as a cardigan or carried it as a tote bag.

When you moved in, he gave you a sprig of small holly blossoms as they symbolised domestic happiness, it was hard to find but he found the small white blossoms. He gave you a carnation for your first anniversary and then again for your first wedding anniversary.

“Now, the rose,” he held out the single flower to you. “A red rose is a symbol of love. A single rose means love at first sight, two means love and affection.”

“So the more you add, the more you love me?”

“Well, 15 means sorry, so go with 12 or 24.”

“Oh,” you gasped. “All those flowers you gave me on Valentine’s…”

“Don’t worry about that. I’m sure someone got a better use out of them.”

And he continued to pass on his knowledge.

Clara gasped at the display of colour. “Wow! So much colour!”

“I know, we have a lot of choice. Now,” he kneeled down. “Do you know why I get flowers for mummy?”

“Cause they pretty and she pretty?”

He couldn’t help but smile, “That’s exactly right. But also, every flower has a special meaning to them, like a secret code.”

“A secret code?” he nodded, and she clapped her hands in excitement.

He picked her up and proceeded to point of various flowers. “Red roses mean ‘I love you’, pink carnation means ‘I’ll never forget you’ and yellow pansy means ‘thinking of you’.”

“Audrey two: I eat you!”

“I don’t think they have any of those today,” she pouted so he continued to explain every flower and its meaning.

“Honey cakes, we’re home!”

Dieter took off his crocs and Clara followed taking off her little crocs. You almost couldn’t see her behind the huge bouquet of flowers she was carrying.

“Oh wow pumpkin, look at all those flowers!” you managed to take the petaled gift from her before she fell over from the weight.

“Wait, secret code!”

“Did daddy teach you?”

“Every flower!”

She almost jumped up on the couch as she was eager to tell you what she had learned. She couldn’t remember the names of the flowers, but she remembered their meaning.

Pointing at each one in the bouquet, she recited, “I love you; I love you; I love you!”

“That’s a lot of ‘I love you’s’!”

“I love you lots, mummy.”

“I love you lots, pumpkin!”

“Now cupcake,” Dieter reached into his crocheted tote bag. “I have a flower for you.”

“For me?”

“Yes,” she reached out for the single white flower, wrapped so lovingly. “This pink rose means happiness because you and mummy both make me happy.”

She hugged it close, giggled out a blush and ran off to show her toys.

“She’s going to love getting flowers.” You got out a vase and started filling it with water. Dieter got something else out of his bag and hid it behind his back.

“Dieter, I don’t think I could fit anymore flowers in this vase.”

“Oh, I don’t have a flower for you.”

“You don’t?”

He shook his head. “Is there a secret language for cheese?”

“Cheese? I don’t think so, why?”

“Well,” he held out a small wheel of cheese to you. “I couldn’t find a flower that says ‘I love you to the moon and back’ so I decided to say it with cheese.”

i ramble about my crochet projects/my crochet history under the cut so don’t mind me‼️‼️

so i first started crocheting when i was a sophomore(??) in high school!! my mom had a crochet side business where she would take commissions and sell them at local flea markets!! i loved the little creatures she made so i begged her to teach me lmao.

i only really made scarves/blankets when i first started out!!

old rayray photos incoming (my face is going to be blocked out in all of these!! i’m not like. worried i’m gonna be recognized or smth i’m just weird about showing my face online lol)

the first crochet item i’d ever made!! It was an infinity scarf lol.

funny story. i fucked up that scarf so bad. i was just using it as an excuse to practice the double crochet stitch and ended up using an entire thing of yarn. the scarf was “too long” so my mom helped me make it an infinity scarf instead lmao. i still have it ‼️‼️

and then i had a period where i made nothing but scarves for a few months. i don’t have pictures because i gave them away as gifts so here’s proof that i had the yarn 😭😭

and then a took a HUGE ass break from crocheting for a few years 💔💔

But i picked it up again this this past january!! I was required to take a 3D design class at my school so we did a lot of sculpture work!! Here’s my project that i did after not touching crochet for almost 3 years!!

it’s a deconstructed-abstract jellyfish!! I used wire to make the form. Wrapped different yarn around all the wire!! And then made very long strands of the tentacles by doing long chains, things of single crochet and double crochet!!! the best part is that it curled at the end on its own!!

i loved that project sm!!!

I actually used crochet to work on my final for that class!!! here it is!!!

(blocked out face) we had to create a 3D project that was wearable!! I crocheted a SHIT load of flowers and spread them around a veil that i made!! it was supposed to represent springtime/loss of autonomy. (id be willing to explain that later ehehe)

and here’s a very crappy photo from another final i used crochet with‼️

so i had to create a sculptural element for a class and then project a video onto it!!! I created a backdrop with a ladybug/flowers/and a bee to represent an almost idealistic version of my hometown. and the video i projected was clips of what it was like living in the city for the first time!!

i actually made LOADS of bees. they were super easy to make so i made 5+. i even gave my mom one for mother’s day :)))

and for father’s day. i made a LONG BEE

i do have more projects in the drafts rn!!

I made a HUGE red blanket that i finished during finals week lmao. Right now i’m working on a capybara plush for my nail tech (she’s sick rn), and grannysquare-star blanket, star garlands, a tote bag, more bees ofc, a shark, some bookmarks, and a crochet bouquet!!!

i’ll def talk about my crochet habits some more on here ehehehe i’ll make it a separate tag so lmk if u wanna be tagged whenever i post about my crochet junk!!!

going to work on putting together a small portfolio of sorts to bring to the natural food co-op and see if they will carry my work. they have a big gift shop area and i heard a rumor that they’re doing away with the home brewing section to expand the gift area even further… sad for home brewers but good for me! (not even that sad bc a different natural foods store 10 min away has a better home brewing section which i suspect is why they’re getting rid of it).

i need to come up with some core items that are easily replicable/don’t take too long to work up and that i think will sell well there. so far my ideas are the checkered bucket hats that are my current obsession, 8-square small granny square purses, bigger 13-square granny square totes, drawstring/other small pouches (which means i need to learn to attach zippers which means relearning how to sew lol), small mesh produce bags, bandanas, maybe wider brimmed hats if i can find a sturdy enough yarn to stop them from flopping in your face.

summer is tough bc it limits what i can sell; in winter i can do so many hats scarves leg warmers wrist warmers etc. maybe i should suck it up and try to come up w some simple amigurumi keychain patterns, i just haaaate working in tiny rounds like that and trying to work around stuffing it is nightmarish for me. also want to sell the more artsy stuff like tapestries and eventually freeform when i get better at that. maybe i can even get my stuff in one of the galleries downtown?!? it would be sooo cool so crazy to have my work in a gallery like that would make me feel so legit lol. very exciting to be thinking about all of this! still wanna brainstorm the portfolio a bit more and then i have to actually time myself making each item and calculate yarn costs etc. good thing crochet has revived my math skills 😩

hello hello! i just saw the crochet ask and and to stop by ur ask box lol…totally feel you! i actually picked it up end of 2022, called it my grandma era because i would spend my evenings sipping on some tea and learning to crochet lol. it’s very cathartic! but was like ppl can make such cute things! i want to too,,!!

i’ve only made a scarf for my dog loool. and i just finished a chonky scarf for myself. i have a goal to finish somethin every month! next gonna tackle maybe a little pouch?! a tote bag?? lol.

the bad batch + items i would knit for them

a/n: i’m obsessed with knitting/crocheting bc i’m actually a very very ancient old elderly decrepit person trapped in the body of a sexy young lady. and i especially love knitting things for other ppl bc it makes me feel like a little christmas elf. so this is what i would make for each of the bad batch

Hunter: headband

yes this is an obvious one but i don’t care

hunter wears the same rotting headband every single day someone needs to provide him with extras so he can at least rotate them

headbands are really easy to knit so i could provide him with an endless supply of clean ones

ALSO it would be so cute to make the actual headband one of the bad batch colors (black, red, even white) and then crochet little appliqués to sew onto them

like the skull, 99, those would so cute on there like basically how the skull is on his already but more 3D

yarn is also most likely more breathable than whatever he’s currently got strapped on there so comfort wise it would be better too

Crosshair: beanie

crosshair is such a 2015 beanie dude

like i don’t mean that in any sort of way bc he’s a handsome young man BUT he’s very “i’m the misunderstood artsy loner guy who wears leather jackets and beanies and smokes cigarettes and reads classic literature”

and i love that energy for him so he deserves a beanie to compliment it

also i think crosshair is a very chronically cold person but is too proud to ever admit he’s cold so he won’t put on a jacket or use a blanket BUT he’ll wear his beanie bc he can pass it off as a fashion choice

Tech: tote bag

tech has so many god damn things

so many trinkets and gadgets and tools

HES GOT GADGETS AND GIZMOS A PLENTY HES GOT WHOZITS AND WHATZITS GALORE

but anyway he needs somewhere to put all of those things! and if that storage location is also mobile? even better!

I keep a lot of my things in tote bags (literally i keep my knitting stuff in a tote bag) bc it’s easier and then they’re ready to go if i need to transport them

i just think he would get a lot of use out of something like that, plus this is more of a time consuming project and he would have the patience to wait since it’s not a pressing need

i’m making a tote bag for myself right now and i’m knitting a design into it (eggplant emoji on one side, peach emoji on the other side) and i would def do a design on tech’s to make it more exciting and I think he would really appreciate the craftsmanship of it all

Wrecker: bucket hat

crosshair might be a beanie dude. but wrecker is 1000% a bucket hat dude

like wrecker is just such a chad in the best possible way (in the beloved himbo way) and i think his natural state is at like a tailgate (or some kind of outside day drinking event), hawaiian shirt unbuttoned, bucket hat on, sipping a bud light and playing cornhole

bucket hats are more of a crochet thing but they’re pretty easy and quick to make and they’re super cute with little appliqués sewn on like with hunters headband

he would love having a few different ones with different vibes like obvi some bad batch themed ones but other ones too

specifically the one i’m picturing in my head is like a pretty light blue with little white cloud appliqués sewn in all over so it looks like a beautiful blue sky

Echo: blanket

now this is a time consuming project. you gotta really love someone to devote this commitment to them

as much as i love all these lovely individuals, echo is the only one who deserves having these labors performed for his comfort

echo has had almost only the worst of times ever. now he’s like half robot and doesn’t even get to have a robot hand OR his own bed he sleeps in a fucking hammock

he deserves the world, the least i could do is make him a big cozy knit blanket

echo is also the only one who’s patient enough to wait for a nice blanket to be made. everyone else would get antsy too soon

i would use that big soft yarn they sell for baby blankets like i would just buy a fuck ton of it and it would be so comfy

Omega: sweater

omega is the only one i would make a sweater for

similarly to echo i think she’s the only one who deserves such a laborious task, but also she’s much much smaller than the rest so it would be way easier

not to be fully mrs weasley but i would def knit her initial into the sweater

NO I WOULD KNIT THE GREEK LETTER OMEGA INTO THE SWEATER THAT WOULD BE SO CUTE

i’d prob also make matching headbands for her and hunter but whatevs

☆ Mitsuya Takashi, despite being a strong and founding member of Toman, is the most gentle person you ever know. His touch is soft and fleeting, as if trying to make sure he won’t hurt you, and he holds your hand so kindly.

☆ Mitsuya will, no doubt, coddle you similar to how he does with his younger siblings. His sisters always want a lot of attention and he knows that you do as well so he makes sure that you feel loved.

☆ Luna and Mana always gets jealous.

☆ Mitsuya will never answer because on one hand if he says yes, his little sisters will literally attack him. If he says no, then you, who was standing right beside him with a for-now kind smile, would be pouncing.

☆ But even if you’re not around, he still won’t answer it.

☆ Mitsuya just loves you that much that he’s seriously threading a dangerous line right now.

“Don’t worry Luna-chan, Mana-chan. If you get sick of Takashi, you can always remember that I love you very much.”

☆ Mitsuya is very offended, by the way.

☆ His sisters love you so there isn’t any spite even if he gives you more attention. They know that their dear brother needs to find a partner anyway, or else he would be a lonely old man and Luna and Mana do not want to deal with that.

☆ Mitsuya worries that they love you more than they love him. Only to laugh because that would never happen. Until the thought of you loving his sisters more than you love him came up. Nuh-uh, Mitsuya’s not gonna let that happen.

☆ So, yes, he pampers you to make sure that you’ll still love him even with his adorable sisters around.

☆ When the two of you hang out, it’s usually at his place so that the two of you can watch over the misfi- ahem, Mana and Luna.

☆ The girls always love having their hair brushed and tied by you and you’re always happy to follow their requests. You once switched it up and exchanged their hairstyles: Luna had her hair in space buns while Mana had her hair in twintails. Mitsuya had to check twice if he was seeing things.

☆ Mitsuya grew out his hair because Luna insisted that he should so that you can brush and style his hair as well.

☆ You usually stay indoors when the two are around because you worry that you can’t keep an eye on them. When indoors, Mitsuya would always improvise on what to do for the day.

☆ Usually, you would clean with some pop song playing on the radio. You would sing along while Mana and Luna danced around. If it comes to that, only Mitsuya would be cleaning because the three of you would be too distracted to actually clean.

☆ By lunch time, Mitsuya would had prepared food already and you would eat while watching a show on the television.

☆ Luna and Mana would always bicker on who would sit with who. So Mitsuya made a schedule. Today, Luna can sit with you while Mana sits beside Mitsuya; the next time you come over, they can switch.

☆ Mana was not happy with this and Mitsuya is offended because wow, they like you more than him now.

☆ The three of you would wash the dishes and clean up while Mitsuya would find some things to do to entertain the tiny energetic demons.

☆ On some days, he would teach you to sew and the two of you would knit scarves, socks, gloves, and even beanies. If his two sisters are in the mood, they would knit as well. Sometimes, it’s crocheting. Some days it’s embroidering.

☆ Mitsuya sewed you a tote bag once and his sisters were the one who designed it. You take good care of it and the three of them always give you identical smiles when they see you with it.

☆ Sometimes, you and Mitsuya teach the kids how to cook. It usually ends in disaster with something popping or the meal tasting wrong. You attempted to bake cookies once but at the end of it, the icing were on each other’s faces and the extra flour was on the walls.

☆ The plain cookies tasted great though, especially since it was shared among the four of you.

☆ Other days, you would craft different toys with them, ranging from cars, dolls, planes, dogs, and even puppets. The two sisters share a room and all of the crafts are placed neatly in the corner. You would see it stacked neatly every time you visit their room.

☆ Around afternoons, you would start watching movies with snacks either prepared by Mitsuya or brought by you.

☆ Mana and Luna plays rock-paper-scissors on who gets to pick the first movie. After the two of them are done, you would pick the next movie and then Mitsuya.

☆ So you have at least four movies in total. Sometimes, you just stick with a series that piqued the interest of both sisters.

☆ If you decide to hang out outdoors, it’s usually at the park where Mana and Luna can run around or interact with other children their age instead of hanging around with old people like you (Mitsuya’s words, you smacked him for that and Mana and Luna followed your example so the three of you were ganging up on him).

☆ You will either buy ice cream or visit a cafe, usually a pet cafe. (More than once, you encountered Chifuyu in one. At this point, Mana and Luna know him as well.)

☆ When the sun starts to set, the four of you would walk back to the Mitsuya household and you follow the usual routine when you stay indoors at evenings.

☆ Only this time, you can only have one or two movies because of how late it is. Mitsuya always ends up giving up his chance to pick a movie because you will bicker with him about it.

☆ When it’s already late, you and Mitsuya will tuck in both Mana and Luna who would complain and insist that they can stay awake a little longer. When that doesn’t work, they try pleading with you to stay with them.

☆ There were some occasions that you did end up staying, either out of exhaustion or when the two (sometimes three, Mitsuya I’m looking at you, you traitor) of them managed to guilt trip you into doing so.

☆ Mitsuya would try to walk you home but you always reiterate that he doesn’t have to because no one would watch over his younger siblings since their mom always works late.

☆ He would still walk you either at the end of the street or at the train station though. Completed with a kiss goodnight on the forehead and a thank you. You retaliate with a kiss on his lips.

☆ It’s domestic. It wasn’t their house that made you feel like home. It was the people that live in it. You couldn’t wait to spend your years with him.

While the easy answer to cleaning up the earth may be “Just recycle!” unfortunately, it is not that simple. Many areas do not have recycling plants available or nearby. In my own neighborhood, to be part of the recycling route, you have to pay a monthly subscription, which not everyone can afford. 

Because of this, I have found myself becoming increasingly creative in the ways that I reduce waste. Below are some of my most practical tips.

1.) Containers!

Containers are very easy to reuse--whether its a glass jam jar upcycled into a trendy coffee cup, or an old mayo jar being reused as a craft supply holder, containers are my favorite reusable item. I have washed out plastic ice cream tubs and used them as flour/sugar containers and as planters. Tin cans become cute pencil holders and planters with a coat of exterior paint or a ribbon. I have used vitamin/pill bottles as bathroom organizers for Q-Tips, tweezers, and make up brushes. Cutting a milk jug in half and covering the exterior with a colorful cloth makes a handy sock/underwear organizer. The possibilities are endless!

2.) Paper Goods!

Instead of throwing away paper, look for ways to reuse and donate! Many cat shelters use newspapers for their litter box liners and are glad to take the newspapers off your hands. There are DIY tutorials online about how to make a pet mat with newspapers and fabric, also a great item to donate to shelters! Make sure to call and check with the shelter to see if they need these items before beginning any project, though. Paper can also be reused to make fire starters, beads, decoupage material, and paper mâché. You can shred it and use it as small pet bedding, as well.

3.) Plastic Bags!

It is incredibly sobering to see so many photos of plastic bags in landfills, in oceans, and around the necks of our wildlife. Easy to make and easy to throw away, plastic bags are easily a castaway product that is easier to use and not think about. After seeing my own plastic bag usage, I realized I needed to make a change. I cut plastic bags into loops, connect, and roll them into balls of “Plarn” (plastic yarn). I have been crocheting the plarn into containers and reusable grocery totes. While the prep work is a bit time consuming, making plarn is still a lot of fun, and its the perfect fidget task for me while I watch movies.

4.) Clothes!

Clothes are one of the slower biodegradable items, with the plastics of common day production making breaking down difficult. Instead of tossing out a shirt with a rip in it, or a pair of shorts with a stain, look for ways to repair it first. Sewing a flower over a stain, or using a cute stitch to seam up a tear is a great way to add character and longer life to your clothes. If clothes no longer fit or are too damaged to repair, many thrift stores (or craft clubs!) will accept them. I like to donate clothes to smaller, personally owned thrift shops before large chain shops, but any type of donating keeps clothes out of landfills! If there are no thrift shops that accept donations, churches, benefit clubs, and homeless shelters often accept items into their closets so they can give them to people who need it directly. Sometimes food kitchens will collect clothes so when visitors get a free meal, they can also get a free shirt if they need one.

5.) Electronics!

Electronics are easier to donate, if recycling is not possible, with many pick up locations by large stores or busy areas. If there are no pick up/drop off electronic places, local high schools, trade schools and the like will also accept electronics (working or not) for the students to tinker with. Women’s shelters and assisted living centers also accept (working) electronics, even if they are older. Many occupants need devices or tech related items to help them apply for jobs or learn new skills, and often these places don’t have enough to go around. Depending on what electronic you are trying to dispose of, you could use the frame (like a computer frame) as a cute planter or quirky garden decor, or paint it into an artistic piece.

"Hi, love," you announced yourself as you walked through the door, welcoming the warmth of your apartment with opened arms. Discarding your coat, boots, and beanie, you took the tote bag that you carried all the way there and entered the kitchen, where Jongho was preparing dinner. You put the bag on one of the chairs and went to give your partner a back hug, Jongho turning his head to the side to kiss your temple as he was stirring the food in the pot on the stove.

"Babe," he said as he slightly moved, extracting his left arm from your hold to wrap it around your shoulder. You both stayed in silence, enjoying each other's company for a moment. Today, Jongho was your life saviour because truly, you were too lazy to prepare dinner, you probably would have gotten something warm to eat on your way home. "How was the afternoon with your mother?" he questioned as he detached his arm from you, turning off the stove as he walked to the other cabinet to get two plates and items of silverware out.   "Oh, tell me about it. You know how my mom is," you sighed with a smile as you freed your boyfriend's hands so he could keep an eye on the dinner still boiling in the pot. "What? Did she say something upsetting?" he demanded, and you shook your head. "No, no, she was overall very lovely, but you know how extra and dramatic she can get," you paused as you finished putting everything on the table, Jongho signalling you that you could sit down as he lifted the pot to place it on a board between the two of you. 

"She was telling me how my brother and his girlfriend didn't like the Christmas sweaters she knitted for them," you explained before whispering a sweet thank you as your boyfriend served you some of the food.   "She was like "yeah I'm mad because they didn't even say thank you for making those when I spent hours working on them. I had this amazing idea of knitting sweaters for them, and I was at the store when I saw some crochet hooks and decided to use this method! It was a great idea, right sweetie?" and I couldn't say no, other she would have thrown me another tantrum about how ungrateful her children were," you told as you started eating. Jongho was all ears at your story, giggling as he could visualise the way your mom was acting. 

"But wait," he suddenly said as looked at you, "did she give you some for us as well?" he rolled his eyes with an amused sigh as he looked at your puppy eyes. "I'm so sorry," you said before taking a bite from your plate, "I couldn't say no," Jongho seemed like he had given up but started laughing at your remorseful expression. "She even argued further that she would be delighted to receive some pictures of us wearing them" Jongho almost spat out the slice of meat he had just started munching on. "Of course," he said while laughing, wiping his mouth with a napkin before sighing. He looked up to meet your eyes, and you had an embarrassed smile on your face, feeling sorry that you had to make your boyfriend do this just for the sake of your mother's pleasure. 

"Alright," he said as you took a break from eating, "how do they look?" Your eyes went wide, not expecting your boyfriend to be this conciliatory. "What?" "Do you have the sweaters here?" he asked, and you felt a smile forming onto your face. You grabbed the tote bag on the floor and unfolded two massive crocheted sweaters. "I don't know what design she knitted on them, I hope it's not too embarrassing," you whispered as you turned the sweater, searching for the potential weird design.   "Well, they're not that bad," your boyfriend said as he extended his hands across the table, reaching out for his sweater.  "Look," he added as he slightly pushed his chair away from the table with his feet before passing the sweater above his head. It was just his size, your mother had a trained eye for measurements.

Jongho's sweater was dark blue with a few dots of white here and there, mimicking snowflakes falling from the sky. On the left side of his abdomen, there was a Santa Claus face, a long white beard with red cheeks.

"Wait, stand up," he said, and you copied him, walking to the window to see your reflections. "See," he said as he poked your right side, making you squeal, "you have Mother Christmas here," he said, keeping his forefinger where he's just poked you. You gave your boyfriend a weary look before rolling your eyes, Jongho chuckling at your behaviour. "I'm tired of her, you can take it off," you sighed as you were about to remove the item of clothing, but Jongho wrapped his arms around your shoulders. "Hey, it could be worse, love," he whispered, but you shook your head, rolling your eyes again. "I'm just glad she didn't do a below-the-belt joke," you mumbled, Jongho grabbing your hand as he walked you to the living room, in front of the decorated Christmas tree. 

"Don't move," he said as he paced to the bedroom before coming back with a tripod and his camera. "Love, we don't have to do this, really," you let your arms fall on your sides as Jongho shushed you with a smile. "Let's do this for your mother, hm?" he said as he adjusted the camera, "I'm not fond of doing this but I do it for you and our relationship with her. For the great terms and harmony in your family, okay?" he said as he pressed on a button, the self-timer starting to run. He paced next to you, standing on the good side to make sure that your mom's joke would be visible on the picture, his arm around your waist.

You tried to hide your irritation while smiling, the camera clicking a few times before going silent, Jongho going back to check if the pictures were good. He looked quite happy with them, so he started another wave of pictures, where you allowed yourself to be goofier. "What do you think?" he said as he tilted the camera screen so you could have a look of the different shots. You puffed at how ridiculous you looked but shrugged anyway. "They're okay, I guess," you replied, and Jongho nodded, putting the protection back on the lens before placing the camera on the table. 

"Aren't you taking it off?" you asked, and he just shook his head, getting cosy and comfortable on the couch. "No, it's pretty warm," he giggled, and you chuckled at his behaviour. He was quite right, he looked buffy and warm, his face almost drowning in the material. "Come here, babe," he said as he made grabby hands for you to come closer and cuddle him, your annoyed look vanishing as his arms wrapped themselves around you, trapping you in a warm embrace. "Thank you for tolerating my mom's weird moments," you bluntly said, and you felt him laugh, a hand softly rubbing your back up and down. "It's okay honey, I can go through that for you, you’re worth it," he answered as you looked up to him, locking your eyes with his with a smile. And, before you could do the slightest movement, he captured your lips in a loving kiss, keeping you close to his chest.   "Thank you," you said as you pulled away, nestling your face into his neck. "No worries, love.”

I asked him if something was bothering him and that’s why he didn’t want to talk to me, but he ignored me.

He went off in a huff this morning toting two bottles of champagne and a pack of red Equate-brand knock-off Solo cups, stomping, throwing things, wouldn’t talk to me. He didn’t take an overnight bag or his toothbrush or anything.

I did get a hug, though I don’t know why I still seek them. Well, sort of got a hug; his hands were full. I hugged him and he tolerated it.

It’s harder and harder to be affectionate (I don’t want to withhold affection) when he’s saying over and over with his actions that I don’t matter to him.

Either way, he won’t be back until tomorrow, so we can relax today. Or whatever passes for relaxation for me, anyway.

We’ve had one confirmed for the house party he shouldn’t be planning, so I guess that’s likely to happen.

Not only is he planning a house party like a derp during a pandemic, but he’s doing it in the worst way possible. He’s inviting multiple groups of people from multiple areas of the region. Work people, former work people, childhood friends from Philly, none of whom live HERE.

I can’t even wrap my head around how stupid he’s being about the pandemic. Like, aggressively stupid. Like he’s deliberately trying to spread this shit to prove to me specifically that it’s not actually that bad, when I’m the one most likely to die from it.

I’m tired, I’m sad, I’m scared, and I don’t want to do any of this anymore.

My throat still hurts. Something crunched in my right ear and both ears have been gooey and oozy since. He hurt me and I let him.

Just like everything else.

Probably won’t hear from Scott much from now on. He usually gets around to emailing once a week in the middle of the night and said he’s working on his sleep schedule which includes less screen time in the night. It’ll still be nice to hear from him when he has time for me, but I do feel a little more lonely, now.

The house he’s moving into barely has walls which is why I went for making a blanket as a house warming gift, but it’s not going to be all that warm. I’d hoped he wasn’t moving up there until spring at least so it wouldn’t be so bitterly cold. He said he’s getting a space heater, but without any sort of insulation, I’m honestly worried about him.

Maybe he is not so smart.

An electric blanket would probably help.

I should probably stop asking him so many questions. He ignores half of them anyway.

i’m always trying to find ways to lessen my impact on the environment but being a uni student means that most of the time i’m trying to find a balance between realistic long term actions and sustainability. so below, i’ve shared some of the ways i currently help lessen my environmental impact as well as some habits i’d like to slowly integrate into my life in the future.

bring your own water bottle - i think this one is pretty straight forward. i’m very lucky in the sense that my university provides a lot of refill stations. i usually pack my water the night before with my lunch so i don’t have to stress about it the next day. plus!! with my own water bottle, i can add lemon slices or mint etc. in winter, i like to use a thermos and bring honey lemon water, hot tea, or just not chilly water.

pack your own lunch - this not only helps you save money but also makes sure you know what you’re eating. i have a perfect sandwich sized container as well so it means i don’t have to use plastic wrap for anything. since i’m a vegetarian, most of my meals are pretty straightforward and feature rice, pasta, eggs etc. that i can buy in bulk with less plastic packaging as well.

bring your own utensils/keep cup - if you enjoy coffee, either sit in the cafe or bring your own reusable keep cup! my university is really conscious about this so all the nearby cafes let us bring our own cups and sometimes you even get discounts for not using single use cups. when i do go out to eat as well, i try to bring my own utensils so i don’t have to use the single use plastic (or even those wooden chopsticks) this also applies to straws for bubble tea or smoothies.

switch milks - i know a lot of people already have coconut, soy, almond milks with their coffee/tea due to lactose intolerance/other medical/personal reasons. many coffee shops do charge for plant milks but if they don’t then it’s an option since the dairy industry produces a lot of methane (also plant based milks are healthier). i don’t personally buy milk often because i don’t drink it so it’s not a big dent in my budgeting but if it is then don’t worry about it.

reuse notebooks  - on top of recycling my scrap paper, i reuse notebooks that i never finished. instead of organising my notebooks in terms of papers or courses, i separate them by area of study so it means that i can use the same notebook for 3/4 years for politics or english. otherwise, i use the backs of notebooks to write practice essays, do past papers, doodle, do random brain dumps etc. essentially i treat unused paper in notebooks like loose leaf.

buy pen refills and do pen audits - find out what pens you actually use!! i know for me, i’ve felt pressured by the studyblr “aesthetic” to buy stationary that i don’t have a use for and it just results in unnecessary consumerism. i use roughly 10 pens at most as well as some art supplies but for my pens, i try to use refills instead of replacing the entire pen. in the future, i’d like to also stop using correction tape and be comfortable enough to just cross things out. i have to use a wide range of pencils for art but in general use, i simply own 3 mechanical pencils and refill the lead instead.

carry a reusable shopping bag - recently, my country banned single use plastic bags so now everyone uses reusable shopping bags or no bags. although you can buy brown paper bags for 20 cents in supermarkets, you never know what you’ll need to carry around so i like to bring a tote bag.

invest in a quilt - i am super guilty of getting cold really easily and that means i usually have the heater/thermostat on in winter when i’m studying but recently i’ve come to realise that i abuse that a lot. so instead of automatically going to turn on the heater, i try to see if i’m wearing enough first or getting a quilt to put on my lap when i feel cold. this way i don’t have to rack a super high power bill in winter.

change your mailing options - previously i’d get mail from my bank regarding bank statements etc. now i’ve opted for monthly statements online instead saving the paper that they’d use mailing me, similarly i no longer sign up for coupon books, circulars, random magazines etc.

thrift shop your clothes - i feel like this is a really big trend in my city but i’m trying to only thirft shop my clothes now instead of buying new. the thrift shops that i have access to are really good quality and it’s basically a reseller where people who bring their clothes in get 50% of the sale. this does mean that clothes are pricier than big chains like h&m but it also means that you have to think about the purchase for longer + a lot of the finds are super unique and will most likely last longer.

mend your own clothes - in a similar sense to thrifting, don’t just throw out a shirt because it’s missing a button. a 20 minute youtube tutorial can make sure that shirt remains a staple item in your wardrobe. plus sewing leads to darning your socks, knitting, crochet, or even making your own clothes.

consider epilating/laser hair removal - i used to go through so many plastic razors during summer because i was someone who preferred no hair. i know there are many people who don’t mind their body hair and that’s great! for those of you who do however, considering an epilator (multi use) or even laser hair removal (permanent). both are more expensive however they both also use less plastic (compared to fornightly/monthly throwing away of razors)

bulk make your own snacks - i really want to make my own museli bars in the future since i eat them a lot. usually i try to limit my snacks to things like carrot/celery sticks, fruit, nuts, berries etc. but i try to not get individually packaged snacks (they can be more expensive as well since you’re paying for convenience). this is definitely something i can work on but i’d like to be able to bulk make my own granola, museli, dips etc. in the future.

replant your vegetables - this is a lot more achievable for me since the place i live is rural in land style. currently my family has a multitude of fruit trees, tea trees and we’ve recently gotten into reusing our vegetable scraps. for celery/cabbage/lettuce/etc. you can replant the root area. the same goes for spring onions (which are super easy to grow! and garlic cloves!) most vegetables are quite easy to grow with just a bit of googling. even if you don’t have a lot of space but would like to give this a shot, consider adding some herbs to your indoors plant collection.

visit farmers markets - unfortunately, this isn’t that big a thing where i live but i remember going to a few as a kid and the produce is much fresher, the atmosphere is lovely, and it’s a good way to source food and products. many stalls also sell premade items like jams, sauces, baked goods, soap etc. so if you find yourself busy then it may be a possible investment to buy from farmers markets.

some other habits: composting, public transport, bicycling, bamboo toothbrushes, natural home cleaners, raising your own animals, beeswax wraps, cloth napkins/handkerchiefs, buy in bulk, use rain water to water your plants, invest in a menstrual cup, choose wooden over plastic

disclaimer: you don’t necessarily need to buy anything to be more environment friendly!! some things on this list do suggest it but look at your life currently, if you don’t drink coffee or tea on the go then there’s no need for a keep cup etc. invest in products, don’t just buy them because they’ve been advertised.also, i’d like to iterate that whilst climate change is a very real and very scary threat,  personal use by the general population only results in a small part of it so please don’t feel like you’re letting anyone down if your personal situation or any part of your life prevents you from doing more than a few things to help the environment. as long as you’re not being dick to the environment and taking 4 hour showers, using 500 plastic straws a day then doing your best is enough. if you can’t do anything more in lessening your environmental footprint, then that’s okay. other people might be able to so even just spreading the news could help a lot.
