SHANG TSUNG'S ISLAND

The island: absolutely breathtaking views. Tropical paradise. Various old structures and architecture of many many various eras and dynasties of China. Sometimes you can feel the island like it's alive....how ominous. Shang tsung says the island is in a realm of its own. A pocket dimension,not quite affected the same way as the realms it connects to. It sorta of is timeless,much like the man who rules it...still wonder what he means by this.

But overall it has lovely shores and beaches. Lavish courtyards and gardens. It has an upper courtyard,and lower. The Lower courtyard is mostly for guests,kombatants when there is a tournament,servents and guards. The upper courtyard is for me and shang tsung. He doesn't let anyone wander around in it unless he invites you. Which he does rarely.

The interior: the interior is traditional but has modern facilities. (Look shang is old but come on man!)

Tho he does have a traditional kitchen and a modern. But the modern one is his personal one near his living quarters. The rest of the inner palace is still got an old school vibe.

The inner palace/private living quarters:The bed chambers is lavish. Large. Silks,velvets,gold,red. *sigh* . Beautiful.

Shang's private kitchen,bathroom,hot spring,etc is all connected.

Armor/clothing:has beautiful armor and a ceremonial sword in his bed chambers too.

Some armor is for kombat. Some is ceremonial. Either way it's always beautiful to look at.

I too have lovely outfits. Aren't they great?

My magic apprentice outfit. Sorceress in training if you will. (Not exactly how i had it,but it was closest to i could find)

Also our accessories too

Shang and i (lady tsung) have snake rings. A pendent that helps my magic training. Master tsung has a snake flask(with what alcohol or its contents, i dare not ask him) and a dragon pipe for Tobacco(or other substances im sure).

Throne room:Shang tsung's throne room is also breathtaking. A Large room,holden dragons,the tournament master private dining room, a small courtyard next to it. Isn't it lovely?

OK, so Replica feature

Some notes: 

Replica works on builds with float, sink, etc. 

It directly copies the position of all items in a certain area when used. You cannot make any changes before the entire build is copied over (though you can edit normally once it’s done). 

This means that even if you don’t care about keeping those BP items you don’t have, you better get over 90% furnishings without them somehow.  

Unfortunately, this also means the you can replicate only to the same realm and area as the original build. 

Ie, you can’t move builds between islands or between realms. If you already have a build you really like on the specific area the code is for, you’re out of luck. 

You can also only use Replica codes from your own server, not the other two servers. 

For interior, the entire layout of a specific mansion type (Mond, Liyue, etc) will be copied over. There is no way to copy a single room. Bright side: realm doesn’t matter. 

When you enter the replica code, you’ll be shown a preview and the furnishing list. You can use the replica if you have 90% of the furnishings needed. The list will only show the number of furnishings free, not the total number you own, so if they’re used in some other build, you can free them up and improve your percentage. 

You have 10 slots for recording replicas of your own builds. The code will still work even if you remove the build in the teapot itself. 

This also means that replica codes will only keep working while the owner keeps them up. Once the owner overwrites the codes, they won’t work anymore. 

There is also an option allowing guests to generate a code based on your teapot builds. I haven’t tried this myself tho. 

Fun fact: Any furnishings that require assembly (flower displays, snowmen, aranara carvings, etc) will be copied over in their base state (eg without heads). You have to assemble them yourself afterwards.

You’ll likely have the items, and the load is very low, so you can add a lot to it. If you have Mirage Isle on Cool Isle realm free, try it out. (Alternatively, make a code of your current Mirage Isle, then replace with this replica, and once you’ve taken a look, you can replace back your original Mirage build. Nothing stopping you from using your own codes.) 

But personally I felt there isn’t much to do with it at base. It doesn’t feel good to climb, there’s nowhere to walk and nothing to interact with. It does look pretty nice from the other islands though! That part is important. I’ll keep it as a placeholder and probably overwrite it later.

I then proceeded to edit it to my tastes lol. The topmost house is missing because I only had one copy of it and didn’t bother making a second one, lots of greenery got removed when I... made a set of all the boulders so I could move the entire build. I also switched out the farming plot and added a second one, make stairs out of small boulders instead, etc.

So, my overall impressions of the Replica feature: 

It’s useful but limited. Compared to working from a build video, you can’t select your own realm/area, change position, substitute items... So it’s going to have comparatively limited use if you’re very particular about what you want to make. 

However, I think it’s very useful for plopping down builds in a realm that you haven’t gotten to or if you have a free area and no particular plans. It also lets you experiment with editing a finished product, which is a lot less intensive than building a fresh design. 

The biggest issue is definitely going to be the low number of replica code slots and their impermanence. It’s sort of okay now, but people are going to start removing shared codes pretty quickly imo, so codes from posts and videos are going to become dead once we’re a few months in. If there’s anything I worry about, it’s that people who would otherwise try to explain their builds will just plop out their codes, but there’s the sever limitation and the inevitable expirations, so it won’t be as widely useful. 

The other issue with using codes is definitely getting 90% on the furnishings. This can often involve a huge bunch of a specific item (I’m trying to buy my way toward a build that needs 21 of a floating boulder, where I always got by with... 6, another build needed 31 stepping stones). If it’s a plant or rock, you can only buy 3 a day. And if the build uses some limited furnishings like from BP or events you missed, you really need to get all the other items or you’re hosed. (And it’s not out of the quest that they just used that many BP fountains or torii gates, so you just can’t get 90% at all.) 

Since codes can’t be saved on the user side (aside from generating codes from your friends’ pots, if they allow it), it’s easy to imagine a scenario where you work toward obtaining all the furnishings you need, but a week or two later when you’re finally ready, the code is already dead. 

To make it clear, I do think it’s a nice feature. It’s just also limited in use. 

All that aside, one other use of codes is to save your own progress in a build that you might want to revert later. 

Let’s say you have a build you’re pretty happy with, but you want to make some adjustments. The build is complex enough that changing those things back would be a huge hassle. Imagine the kind of thing where you painstakingly floated a bunch of stuff, but now you want to pivot half the build to face a different direction. You can now save state your current build, and then revert back to it if the changes don’t look as good as you hoped. 

That’s pretty convenient too, and since you’re not sharing the code, you can remove or replace it whenever you like. I’ve mostly seen talk about sharing codes, so this aspect didn’t occur to me until today, haha.

A Goode Year? Review of 2020

Can’t believe it’s that time again.  What a weird year.  Despite Covid and Lockdowns we have actually seen quite a lot of Matthew Goode this year - so this is a long post to save for when you are bored of eating over the holidays!    I’m not adding links to vids, etc. like previous years because tumblr doesn’t like them anymore [Grr] but all of them are still available and I’ll signpost them. 

In January Matthew was finishing filming A Discovery of Witches Season 2 in Turin and we had some glimpses of his leather clad bod in some Teresa Palmer instastories -

In February we saw Matthew and Sophie having fun at the Pre - BAFTA party

The rest of that month was all about Leap Year’s 10 year anniversary and we drooled over Declan all over again ....

In March Matthew was finishing filming Silent Night with Keira Knightley when the world changed.  We were introduced to ‘social distancing’.    We had to keep a full Matthew Goode length away from other people - a handy reference is below to remind you -

[Pic - Ellen Von Unwerth]   On the upside the news broke that Matthew would be playing Keira’s husband in Silent Night (as we suspected) and that they had finished filming before lockdown in the UK.  

In April Matthew had his 42nd birthday.  Check out all of the fabulous birthday tributes posted on here around 3rd April.  As a special birthday present Sky released ‘Four Kids and It’ on their cinema channel on the same day with Matthew playing the role of slightly harassed parent David.  It was a goode family movie and just what we needed in lockdown.

In May we got our first glimpse of Matthew in lockdown when he made a poignant contribution to Bletchley Park’s VE Day celebrations -

It was perfectly judged - just Matthew filming himself on his phone, in his garden, complete with birdsong.

According to James Purefoy and Joe Fattorini Matthew shaved off his hair with the dog clippers in lockdown so he looked a bit different the next time we saw him in June!  

Matthew appeared via zoom on ‘Dan Nicholls Really Likes Wine’ show - ‘Drinking the Goode Stuff’.  It was great seeing these old friends bantering away and drinking wine.  Of course Goode fans immediately campaigned to get Matthew on The Wine Show @ Home and we got our wish a few weeks later when Joe and Matthew had a virtual wine tasting on zoom - 

The whole session was hilarious.  Matthew was completely adorable and funny as usual.  Amongst other things Matthew told us that Sophie had gone off pork (not a euphemism) and we got another peek at his beautiful home with Sophie’s interior design skills on show.   This is also still available on The Wine Show @Home You Tube. 

June also gave us the new trailer for ‘The King’s Man’.  We heard Matthew’s unmistakable voice as the Scots bad guy and there were some tantalising peeks of his character’s mysterious alter ego ‘Shepherd’ - 

In July we finally got to see one of Matthew’s Q & A sessions for actors in training at Bow Street Academy in Dublin that he had recorded in May - 

Matthew gave frank, funny and very practical advice on auditions, preparation for roles and demonstrated how to be scary with a knife! 

August was a bit quiet - we got news that A Discovery of Witches Season 2 would now be aired in January 2021 but a new promo image helped soften the blow of that delay. -

Kingsman was delayed yet again....  but at least we got some new promo images of Matthew’s character - Captain Maximillian Morton.  (Morton? Hmm - someone on here (not me!)  spotted the relation to Roxy!]

In September Matthew’s new movie ‘The Duke’ received glowing reviews at the Venice Film Festival and we got confirmation of my speculation that he would play barrister Jeremy Hutchinson.  

Tantalisingly goode info about Matthew’s up coming movie Silent Night came from Baz Bamigboye from the Daily Mail as he called it ‘the most astonishing Christmas movie ever made’ - hopefully he meant it in a goode way!  We had fun spotting Matthew’s body parts in the pictures accompanying the article ...

Production on A Discovery of Witches season 3 started under strict Covid rules and Matthew was seen filming for ADOW Season 3 in Bristol -

October was a very goode month!  

It kicked off with The Wine Show Season 3 teaser - 

Matthew ‘sub-section’ Goode joined in with the ADOW cast Q & A.  He was a funny and engaging as ever including an unforgettable impression of a ‘wafter’ and a hasty exit at the end!  

We had the official ‘first look’ trailer for season 2 of A Discovery of Witches -

The Wine Show season 3 landed on Amazon Prime in the UK and it is SO goode even tho’ there is less Matthew than usual due to filming clashes with ADOW.  Matthew was still his adorably goofy self and gave us the usual interesting fashion choices and jokes.

And as if that wasn’t enough excitement for October we got the official news that there will be another Downton Abbey movie - starting to film in March 2021. Hopefully we will see more of him in this one!

Matthew usually keeps his charity projects private but in November we saw him donating his ADOW ‘wedding day’ boots to be auctioned for the Small Steps Project ....

...complete with on mud from the set.  Some lucky person is probably stroking that suede as I write this!

Matthew also recorded some charming contributions to the #SaveJenny campaign.  He evicted the dog from her favourite chair by the radiator in the kitchen and sat there to read the opening chapter of Wind in the Willows -

It has been a while since I introduced my ocs, soo have another one.

-His name is Orion and he's an graffiti artist from Promethea.

- He's got nickname Neon Artist. As he often used neon colors in his works and because of how Promethea is lighted.

-He's famous around the galaxy from his graffitis as he publishes his works on the echo net.

-He has light brown hair, with purple highlights, that reaches to his neck. He has implanted himself, so the graffiti mask can digistruct on the spot.

-He's 5.7 feet tall and isn't the most masculine man. He wears a choker, that he found during his first graffiti. He considers it his lucky charm.

-Speaking of jewelry, he also has few earrings on his right ear.

-He's your usual jokester, taking very few things in life seriously. He means good usually. He likes to pull some pranks at times.

-His favorite things in life are art, having fun, cider and money. Sometimes love.

-Speaking of love, his love life is non-existent. He has had few relationships over the years, but none of them have worked out. He's a bisexual mess.

-He's that guy that has no idea when to stop talking and will joke about everything. Bad puns, are his specialty.

-He utilizes his spray cans in combat as well. He has three sets of them. Cryo, flame and corrosive are his usual ones. He did consider slag at one point but he decided against it.

-He has a Jakobs pistol, that he calls Life. (It's funny, cause he takes lives with it.)

-Common face in the local police force as he gets caught from doing pickpocketing and occasional mercenary work. And his graffitis as most of them are illegal.

-But this doesn't slow him down. Quite the opposite. Once, the graffiti gets cleaned up there's usually a new one the next day.

-He met Zero during one of his missions, which is how he met the Promethea gang.

-He and Lorelei got along really well, as they both share the dumbass energy. Rhys also enjoyed his company, as he brought much needed humor to the crew.

-Rhys commissioned him to work on the interior and exterior design of Atlas headquarters. (Orion loved the job offer.)

-Rhys didn't expect the graffiti work to look so, bright but his employees liked it so he let it go.

-He ended up working on regular basis at Atlas. But once he stole something he shouldn't have, he set sail towards Pandora by Zer0's recommendation.

"I recommend Pandora for you/I liked it there, lots of things to kill/ But be, warned. It's no catwalk out there."

-And he did that. As he couldn't afford an straight fly to Pandora, he traveled on various ships as a bunny.

-It was a slow trip but he made it there eventually.

-First few weeks were hard for him. He had been so used to the availability of ac and cooler environment of Promethea.

-He absolutely used one of those mini fans.

-As he traveled the Pandora, he met with early COV. The psychos were already lunging at him but Troy stopped them.

"Hey, stop it." Troy steps out of the shadow to greet Orion. "Hello, there stranger."

"Heyoo. Are these friends of you safe to be with?" Orion asked as he pointed at the psychos. Troy nodded.

"Perfectly as long as you don't piss on them. Hey, do I know you from somewhere you seem familiar." Orion took an smug look on his face.

"Maybe. If, name Neon Artist says anything." Troy then jumped excitedly towards him.

"Holy shit! I'm such a big fan! Selfie time!" Troy quickly took an selfie before Orion could say anything. He quickly put his fingers up to do an peace sign.

-After this Troy commissioned Orion to do the graffitis for COV. He worked on them for the few weeks and he got paid well.

-He spent some more time on Pandora just exploring and making art. But this is where he heard about vaults for the first time.

-He got interested in them and after doing some research, he also got interested on the cash and sirens.

-His thoughts about Pandora.

"God, what a shit hole it is. But, I'd lie if there wasn't any charm to it. There's no law enforcement in there and huge canyons just waiting to have some art sprayed on to them. Sure, locals can make an issue but. As long as you can pull the trigger, you're good to go. Besides, what're they gonna do? Swing their bone clubs at me? I'm scared skele-ton of them. Just kidding. Not really."

Vaults tho? Now, we're talking. If, I could find one I could make some easy cash and if it's mega dull looking vault, well I can always spice it up little bit. Imagine, that. This vault was found and the graffiti on it by Orion aka Neon Artist. That sounds fucking amazing. I've heard that though it takes a siren's call to get to it. So, let's find an beautiful siren first. Let's start with COV sirens."

B   :   BOUQUET.   does your muse like flowers? which ones are their favourite?

raleigh: he likes flowers in the sense of being around during hikes. so, if there’s a purple flower by a rock, he’ll comment that’s a pretty purple, internally or externally. but he isn’t someone to go out of his way to pick flowers out at a store (even, again, he may find a bouquet pretty when walking by) and he doesn’t really know the names of flowers compared to his preference of trees. he loves trees. but i’ll save that for another day. but, if he has to name a flower...

liz: yeah... she likes roses, mainly red or white roses. though, while roses are her favorite, she may buy something that looks nice / fits the current theme for her interior design. however, she’s not the best with maintaining plants, so they don’t last long. but she’s the most likely to buy a bouquet of flowers as a gift, either for a close friend she knows like flowers or a romantic partner. she’ll also make sure to know what flowers said people would like to best, which includes succulents. 

jamie: im not quite sure about his own preferences to flowers, mainly because it’s not something he thinks about. however, like liz, he’ll buy flowers for someone he cares about. first to come to mind was his college ex, where he would always get flowers after on of her dance recitals. 

maddie: she loves loves loves flowers! her favorite are sunflowers, but daisies, carnations, & chrysanthemums are on the top of her list. heck, she even has a tattoo (bonus link about all her tatts & the brothers; the main one here is #7 for maddie, though i do have to update this)  she’s also someone who looks closely at floral meaning, though she often just uses her own meanings based on how she views the design / color & the other person. for example, she regrets how yellow carnations mean rejection since yellow is maddie’s color, but will combined yellow & red roses as both representation of liz & herself and the happiness having her sister around brings her. she may even wear floral patterns, definitely more than liz, and use floral designs in her artwork. and, yeah, more like to work at a flower shop in those tropey flower shop au’s.

D   :   DATE.   what is your muse’s ideal date? where / who with / etc?

general: im answering this as the ideal first date, or early dates. while i think some of the settings to personalities shown in these answer may show the type of people that can fit these, im not going to say ‘who with’ since there’s a lot of flexibility on dating & “P” sorta answers that.

raleigh: somewhere that isn’t too crowded but isn’t too private either. so, don’t expect anywhere like a club or a home. he’ll like hiking the best, especially with his dogs & other pets around. while trails can be private, there’s also people that can come by & it’s not a crowded space. cafes at slow hours are also fine too. and outdoor settings, so like eating outside or dogs parks or just outside. he’s an outdoor person at heart, and spending hours in the hospital or off days where he can hardly get out the bed makes him appreciate any time he can get outside more, so he’ll prefer those as early dates, even if it’s as simple as reading on a park bench hearing the water. oh! and museums! he loves all kinds of museum & aquariums, maybe zoos. 

liz: she doesn’t date. don’t say that you’re dating. who cares if she spends more time with you, mainly doing things you like or asks you to meet her at her special chocolate shop so she can see what types of chocolates you like while you seeing all the dark chocolate she selects. or cooks for you or she even helps you with things you’ve been struggling with, even as she struggles herself at certain things.  you both go to the bar together without either of you hooking up with anyone else despite that being “the purpose.” hell, who cares if the two of you made out while stargazing on the top of a skyscraper or travelled to an open field or even woke up to the smell of breakfast the morning after. who cares if everyone calls you a couple or you fell yourself falling for her & the private moments you know she doesn’t share with anyone else but you: she 👏 doesn’t 👏 date. 👏

jamie: a sporting event may be something fun. and especially couple workouts. but also horseback riding together or being around animals. there’s also him cooking for his date, though he can tolerate going out to restaurants. but, overall, there needs to be some sort of active activity alongside the date just because he has a hard time staying still. 

maddie: concerts from other artists or her & the date playing music together. but she likes museums or aquariums too, though she leans towards art museums or photo galleries. then there’s even more exciting events like paintball or roller skating. i think she’s inbetween jamie & raleigh in the sense that she needs to be active but can be tranquil when the moment is right, and that she prefers more public locations but can be in big crowds. 

P   :   PARTNER.   what does your muse look for in a partner? looks / personality?

raleigh: uh, someone that’s strong & independent. someone that can take a leadership role but isn’t too demanding. while feeling he needs guidance sometimes, he likes his independence too. and definitely someone who doesn’t mind being around his dogs or mind husky hair on them, of course.  

liz: these are not things she necessary look for, but things i’ve realize occurs with romantic ships... someone she feels needs some sort of guidance in their life or someone that accepts liz trying to take care of everything. so someone submissive (mainly in bed) yet being able to remind liz to not overwork herself. because a lot of her partners give her advice or suggestions that can change her mindset or try to work to what the partner wants, even if she pretends to remain distant about it. she’s VERY internal & isn’t going to communicate her own wants, because she does get to the point where partner > her. and im about to go off topic since this isn’t about what she looks for in her partner uh... she likes tattoos & leans towards artistic people or people in subjects that can tell her things she doesn’t know much about (and she likes all sorts of knowledge). occasionally she’ll realize a fwb is getting to close, and sometimes that ends up as something more but usually her attachment issues kicks in & she leaves. :/

jamie: uh i guess someone who’s physically fit? or at least can keep up with him. as in, the other person doesn’t need abs but can learn to throw a football or walk a couple miles with ease. it’s more due to this being the types of people he hangs around with due to his job. he’s also drawn to sophistication, if that makes sense. like, his college ex was a ballet dancer. but it’s also like, someone he feels some sort of awe too, which could be being sophisticated in lets say physics or have a smile he feels is worth a million bucks. 

maddie: usually she ends up with another fellow musician or artist because it’s the folks she hangs around with & finds comfort in having that same interest. and she CAN loose interest pretty quickly in terms of dating, but can remain as friends. 

Q   :   QUESTION.   would your muse ask the big question or expect their partner to?

raleigh: he’ll ask first, but would be fine if the other partner asks. especially if they feel impatient with him trying to gain courage to ask. tho like someone else i could see him asking when drunk and not remembering in the morning & be like ‘... oops.’

liz: next.

jamie: he’ll ask. all the way. he’ll feel the most weird if someone asked him.

maddie: the partner to ask.

U   :   UNREQUITED.   has your muse had their heart broken?

raleigh: yep. half the time he breaks it himself because he puts high expectations on either himself or how things with someone will go.

liz: no. because she doesn’t have one. actually her parents have broken her heart as in her struggles with any sort of attachment, romantic platonic or whatever, due to her mother leaving and then her father’s later dependence on liz / his constant reminders of never get close to people have really damaged her but we won’t go there.

BUST AU - Timeskip Moon Base (+other headcanons)

(Made a previous post about my The Space Between Us AU that I’m now calling BUST AU; all you need to know is Steven grew up in the Moon Base, which was remodeled over time to look more like a proper home.) “Here’s an AU that I won’t develop beyond this synopsis!” *immediately spends the entire night world building* ....Seriously its almost 8am, I haven’t left my computer since I made the first BUST post like 9 hours ago or somethin oops- Anyways, I really wanted to design how the moon base house looked in my head! Though after I drew it out, I realized it might be more suitable as a timeskip, when Steven had more say in how it was constructed, and was held more responsible for taking care of himself. I SUPER wanna revisit this and actually make a background for each room, but now is Not The Time, so here’s the general idea!

I wanted to get a sense of scale first, so here’s just the practice of getting the interior down! I used a bunch of screenshots to make an educated guess on the measurements, and boy howdy that is a LOT of room...

And here’s the (timeskipped) house version! (The holes on the far wall allow a platform elevator to efficiently transport people up and down the house, courtesy of Peridot and Pearl’s handiwork.) I went HAM on the decoration man, I’ll explain this chicken scratch bottom to top:

Warp Room

The entrance and exit! The warp pad was placed in its own room so the warp light doesn’t blind anyone. It’s a personal theory that the farther the distance of warping, the stronger the light; and the moon is pretty far!

The Gems bring back as many cool finds as they can to help decorate the space (making sure the sharper things are securely fastened out of reach). Along with this, Steven decorates with his own art and posters that he buys online. 

The Gems made sure to insulate and wall up the murals; they didn’t need him asking about the Diamonds so soon. Some furniture lines the outer wall with maps and books strewn all across them; Steven prefers to be home schooled down here, and it’s also where the Gems usually plan for missions that they want Steven to join. Steven also brought a bunch of flowers down, helping fill in the giant room.

Next to the door is a pair of homemade (but reliable) astronaut suits; they aren’t used very often though, since there’s not much to see outside. The main door used to be locked entirely, until a second airlock was fitted inside.

Kitchen/Living Room

To the left is the general living room area, to the right is the kitchen. The Gems were able to set up electricity, water lines, sewage, the WHOLE package!

The dining table usually has 5 chairs set up, but they keep some extra foldable chairs leaned against the cabinet- just in case.

A large rug, coffee table, two mismatched couches, and a cluttered bookshelf in the living room; long counters, overhead cabinets full of canned goods, a fridge, sink, and microwave oven in the kitchen.

Bathroom/’Shed’

For the sake of privacy, this floor is separated into two rooms with a hallway in the middle. Steven took the liberty of decorating it with a nice table and a flower.

As standard a bathroom you can fined on the moon, on the left- tub/shower combo, a short counter with a sink, a mirror, toilet, standalone closet with ‘typical’ bathroom supplies

Currently, the ‘shed’ is full of books, games, and beanbags; whatever Steven’s family think he might find fun usually ends up here. 

Steven built a little loft area as his first big addition to the house, which he’s proud of; only him and Amethyst have the guts to hang out up there, though. A small TV is used for his video games and movies; he can’t really get a signal for cable on the moon, but he can always watch new movies in theaters in the observatory.

Greenhouse

As it’s titled, where at least half the plants in the house are kept!

This area might have gotten the most upgrades, with Peridot’s help; with regulators and efficient plant lights, this farm and outdoor area is much easier to take care of nowadays.

The first ‘layer’ is a grassy area with a small oak tree and a pond with a few fish.

The ‘shelf’ floors act as a farm, with a variety of crops growing all year round in assorted wall hanging planters.

Plant lights hand down from the shelf floors; the brightest hang above the open area, so the tree gets enough light. Solar panels now line a majority of the outer walls of the base to power the house.

Observatory

Almost the same as it was when the Gems first started renovating; the only difference being the entrance/exit being changed to a different spot. Steven uses this room less ever since he’s been able to visit Earth more, but before then it might’ve been the room he spent the most time in.

Bedroom

The diamond seat was turned into a bed; with some custom-made support between the edge of the seat and the edge of the control panel, a mattress was able to be placed inside; the back of the seat and the control panel acting as the head and foot of the bed. As cool as the view is, Steven placed a removable veil over his bed for when he wants to pretend he isn’t entirely isolated from humanity.

I like to think it’s similar to the conservatory seen in the movie, with beanbags and flowerpots.

Furniture like a dresser and bookshelf was placed on the wall facing away from Earth; his desk faces the Earth. He also made a removable background curtain, so when his friends that don’t know he lives on the moon decide to video call, he doesn’t have to answer many questions.

He has a few hundred feet of string lights hung above everything, kind of like a spiderweb. Pearl calls it a fire hazard, Steven calls it necessary for the aesthetic

There’s all the rooms, now time for some other random headcanons!

Can you tell that I like Steven likes beanbags?

Steven picked up a LOT of hobbies since he had so much alone time; his most frequent being singing/playing instruments, gardening, reading, and art. The gardening helps him take care of the greenhouse, and his art decorates a lot of wall space. He’d have probably picking up cooking if he didn’t have to rely so much on others getting the ingredients for him.

Steven keeps a beanbag in the observatory; he could and does spend hours sightseeing. As fascinated as he is by society, he tries to respect peoples’ privacy as best he can, and doesn’t spy on his friends and family altogether.

A lot of the stuff to build was stolen or taken from garbage; Greg was impressed, exasperated, and afraid for his son when Amethyst told him this. (Amethyst still brings stuff for the house to this day; the foldable chairs, some of Steven’s posters, the living room rug,etc.)

The amount of hours he’s sunk into people watching has inadvertently made him REALLY good at lip reading.

Steven isn’t entirely vegetarian, but a good majority of what he eats comes from the farm in the greenhouse; it’s easy to tend to and is right at home!

The greenhouse used to be Steven’s favorite place to hang out, but seeing the human zoo kind of disturbed him; he still loves it since it’s his home and he likes tending to his plants, but he subconsciously avoids staying there for as long as he used to. (...remind me to never try to do half-assed-and-failed gravity math at 4am ever again. also. heheheh could write some fluffy qpr connverse....or something dramatic like the warp pad breaking...hehehehehehe maybe later tho when i aint dead)

Do you make your bed? - GAWD NO, at least not 70% of the time, im so bad at this. it’s coz on the weekdays, i start working at 6:30am or 7am at home coz my bosses are in Australia and a lot of our clients are in Australia and/or New Zealand, and they’re 3 or 4 hours ahead of us, so i gotta get on those emails and support case tickets as soon as i can, so i give myself about an hour to catch up, and then i hurry out of the condo to get to the office before im marked late at 10am lolololol. on the weekends, when im at home, BECAUSE im just at home, i never fix my bed coz im in it 85% of the time anyway lakdjf

2. What’s your favorite number?  - 13, cliche as it sounds. not coz i think it’s lucky or anything, but because other people around me thought it was. i kind of clung onto it when i was in high school coz i wanted to fit in by standing out.

3. What’s your job? - An accounts and client services manager at a digital services agency.

4. If you could, would you go back to school? - Probably not. I love learning, HATE studying. 

5. Can you parallel park? - i never got far enough into being taught how to drive by mom to get to parking

6. A job you had which would surprise people? I think every job I’ve ever held, tbh. I graduated interior design mainly because my dad told me to when i asked him if i should enroll in advertising instead (the entrance exam i passed was good for either course). the only ID job i ever had lasted only two weeks, at a firm i had to do my internship/OJT at. it was my first job, and i was let go after two weeks. after that, i was a call center agent for two months, and then a copywriter for 6 months, and then an SEO specialist for a year and a half, and then a social media content/community manager at one firm for one year, and then for another agency for 3 and a half, and now im in my second year as an accounts manager at a digital services cloud agency. even i’m surprised at this job list tbh.

7. Do you think aliens are real? - i absolutely do believe that we are not the only life in this big, huge, wide, expansive universe that the planet earth is but a miniscule blip on. there’s definitely other life out there.

8. Can you drive a manual car? - i haven’t driven a car legitimately outside of learning how to drive, but yeh i probably can, since that was what my mom taught me with.

9. What’s your guilty pleasure? - junk food and soft drinks, but in general i try not to feel guilty about anything i take pleasure in

Tattoos? - none, but i am ACHING for them. i’ve had ideas for a loooong time. one that i DEFINITELY want to get as my first one is part of a letter that i found that my mom wrote for me in high school. “i know that you will be able to stand up for yourself and the world will stop and take notice.” i still have the letter, so i still have it in her handwriting. i want it on the inside of my left forearm. 

11. Favorite color? - Pink! lighter/softer/pastel shades are my preferred ones, but i love any shade or hue of pink tbh

Things people do that drive you crazy? - i hate fake guilt trips. like, when someone wants me to do something that i can’t do, they’ll come in with like “nah, it’s fine, i’ll just drop all these SUPER IMPORTANT things im doing and go out of my way to do this thing that im asking you to do because i’m SOOOOO sorry that you’re unable to do it yourself” coz it’s like...dude, if you really were able to do that or if you wanted to actually do that, you wouldn’t have asked me to do the thing in the first place. like, you’re clearly just saying that to make me feel bad enough to make me drop everything im doing and do whatever it is you asked me to do. i also hate when ppl fish for compliments by being falsely humble or self-deprecating. like. PLEASE, y’all, i’ve lived with negative amounts of self-esteem for literal decades, i know the difference between actual self-loathing and you just wanting to hear good things about yourself that you don’t want to be called narcissistic for saying about yourself. i know what it sounds like when someone is actually going THRU something or is actually having an actual hard time accepting themselves and/or asking people for what they need as opposed to when someone just wants to be told something. like. don’t insult my intelligence and experiences like that. granted, there are nuances to consider for all of these things, bUT like i said, i know the differences when i see them.

13. Any Phobias? - i have a phobia of drowning that’s light enough to NOT keep me away from water but bad enough to sometimes make watching or listening to scenes where someone could potentially drown to set some triggers off for me. i also just have a really really bad fear of dying because of getting my oxygen cut off, coz that sounds like a really slow, painful way to die.

14. Favorite childhood sport? - i was never really a sports kid. the only sport i ever really enjoyed playing willingly was badminton. i trained for a few summers but never competed, but i got good enough to make games in a court fun. i still have my badminton racquet, it’s the only Legit™ badminton racquet in the house (it’s a Yonex, handed down to me by my trainer, only been restrung twice or thrice coz the last restringing was done so damn well), all the other racquets were inexpensive unbranded knock-offs that were good enough for me and my family to have casual games with.

15. Do you talk to yourself? - yes but mostly as a product of deep focus or concentration, or really heavy emotion. having social media has lessened doing it for the latter since i can just vent on here or on twitter, but when im doing stuff for work that’s hard or needs a lot of focus or concentration, i have full-on stand-up meetings with myself.

16. What movie do you adore? - “Romy And Michele’s High School Reunion.” it’s not a perfect movie by any means, but for someone who was a bullied outcast for much of elementary and high school years in a private, all-girls, Catholic school where everyone was tall and thin and pretty and pale and smart and popular, ALL the things that i wasn’t, it was - is? - like a beacon or a hug.

17. Do you like doing puzzles? - heck yeh, coz solving them makes me feel smart, and not being able to solve them but learning HOW to is so much fun for me.

18. Favorite kind of music? - i don’t know that i have one, to be honest, i haven’t listened to current radio in literal YEARS because i dont own a radio in the condo, i barely watch TV anymore, and i dont spend enough time in a vehicle to really know what’s up. i enjoy pop, hip-hop, rnb, showtunes.

19. Tea or coffee? - more of a coffee person myself, actual tea always just tastes LEGITIMATELY like leaf water to me, and i cant find a liking for it. i do really love sweet tea and milktea tho. but yeh, im mostly a bean juice person.

20. The first thing you remember you wanted to be when you grew up? - An architect, like my dad. i thought i would be one, up until i discovered writing in high school, and then i thought i wanted to become a journalist until i took it up as my first course in college and hated it. but yeh, it was always “architect! like daddy!” when i was asked that question when i was a kid. i looked up to him so much as a kid, and he and i were super tight when i was younger coz i was his firstborn and a daughter. we used to call each other best friends. i miss those days a lot; things between us seemed simpler, but maybe that’s because i didn’t have the ideals, knowledge and capacity to question the way he loves/loved me as My Parent™. our relationship these days is absolutely skewed and skewered.

no. 1 reason why jun finds himself working as a barista is bc he dragged himself along

he’s a college boy too, major in performing arts wow whats new

and when he heard that joshua will be applying as a barista on the café near his department

he’s like “can i join, that sounds fun”

ofc, joshua being a kind friend, he’s very pleasant to have jun with him

ya know this café they applied to really needed a new set of baristas

and by the time the manager saw jun and joshua walk inside

“you’re both hired”

i mean, these too are very attractive (and they can attract more customers) and they look very responsible and dependable

tho they were accepted, they also had to work on different shifts and this made the two of them quite sad :(

but anyways, jun works in the afternoon after his class, which is also after everyone else’s class so his job was quite on the hassle side

junhui adapted on the job really well and only had to go training for two days

surprisingly, as junhui continued on his job on the café, he really DID attract more people to come

plus, most of the customers are college girls ofc

one time, a group of girls from another department came in while stiffling their grins and having pink blushes on their cheeks

junhui seemed to notice their reactions and found it really cute

and they seemed to notice that junhui caught them too

so they slightly turned away before ordering

luckily for jun, the café wasnt really packed at that moment so he took the opportunity to eavesdrop while pretending to clean the counter

but when your eyes landed on junhui, you made your way to him with such eagerness

junhui, on the other hand, almost dropped the towel he was holding as he watched you run to him

when you stopped directly in front of him, with the counter separating the two of you

he couldnt get himself to speak

and you noticed that

so you initiated a sentence

“excuse me, is joshua here at the moment?”

and he felt a very little pang on his chest with that

he thought you were going to order and he would get his chance to know your name

he mentally shook himself before replying

“oh, h-he’s not here. his shift starts a-after mine.”

and he wanted to slap himself for stuttering in front of you

“oh” you said, a little disappointed “would you mind if i leave this here? it’s our report and he needs to revise it for our presentation tomorrow” you waved a brown envolope as you spoke

jun nodded multiple times before reaching the paper “s-sure, i’ll let him know.”

and that brought a huge beautiful smile on your face and he felt mini butterflies on the pit of his stomach

“alright, thank you–” your eyes squinted on his name tag “thanks junhui?”

“you’re welcome” he shyly replied, shoving the envelope on the drawers

and junhui suddenly didnt know how to punch your order on the machine bc he was so flustered

his hands were shaking as he took your order

He was blushing real hard and he’s never blushed like that his whole life

the temperature outside is really high too, so junhui secretly add more ice on your drink

“y/n” he called you and you looked at him, forcing yourself to smile but not too much

Bc he’s going to notice you’re having butterflies

Ofc, when he handed you your drink, your fingertips brushed against his

And that brought mini sparks in his hand

You pulled out your wallet to pay but jun immediately interrupted saying,

“Oh, don’t. It’s on the house,”

Even tho it wasnt, lol, really, it’s just a cup of iced americano

You know he’s lying but you just let it slide bc you didn’t want to insist

So you gave him one last smile before leaving the shop

lol, don’t forget about the group of girls earlier

Bc they witnessed your lowkey flirting with him

And they didn’t like it of course

Junhui saw how they were glaring at you and this brought a frown to his face

One of the girls saw his expressions, and they just embarrassingly walked out without ordering

So his shift continued until it was done, he was just waiting for joshua to come

When he did, jun immediately handed the envelope you gave earlier

“It’s from y/n,”

Joshua frowned a little, “y/n? How did you know her?”

“She said her name?” now junhui is a little confused why joshua was a bit skeptical

and this made junhui nervous bc…

….are you two dating?

“Are you….dating?” jun asked very slowly

“What? No! She’s my cousin.”

SIGH

Junhui let out a relieving sigh and nodded his head “she’s really…….pretty.”

Joshua’s eyes widened. “DO YOU LIKE HER IMMEDIATELY? YOU JUST MET HER TODAY”

He shrugged, and was about to ask something about you again until their manager came out and scold them for gossiping lol

And so the next days, junhui kept hoping for you to visit the shop

But you didn’t

He wanted to meet you so badly and it was so obvious that he’s very interested in you

He asked joshua all the time why weren’t you going to the café

And he was relieved that you were just very busy at the moment 

Soooo, one day, you came back

But junhui didn’t hear the bell ring, and he didn’t know someone came inside

It was sunday which means there are no classes, but jun still has work that day 

you came inside with bunch of books on your hand and a heavy backpack hanging on your shoulder

of course, you came there to study, hopefully before you get distracted by junhui’s ethereal face

and when you were about to order, you didn’t notice the sign on the floor

and you

slipped

luckily, there were only two people inside

plus junhui

who heard your fall

your books were scattered everywhere

and he saw you on the floor, struggling

so he immediately stopped fixing the plastic cups and ran to you 

his hands were on your arms, helping you to get up

while you were trying to hide your face behind your hair because,

let’s be real, it was embarrassing

when you got up, junhui gathered your books and gave them to you with a concerned look

“are you okay? where does it hurt?”

you almost blushed again because, damn, he’s really sweet

“no, i’m okay. sorry.” you chuckled, while screaming inside

junhui led you to an empty table, with his hand on the small of your back

why is he so sweet already ahsldjlas 

“do you want some iced americano?” he shyly asked, looking down at you

“oh s-sure” you stuttered, looking down at your books

so junhui made you order and gave it to you immediately

lol he has never worked this fast before

he wanted to have a conversation with you but he noticed the abundance of textbooks you brought so he gave you the time you needed

and there he was,

just standing behind the counter

watching you as you focused on the notes scribbled on your papers

he literally just stops gazing at you when a customer comes in

but when he has the time, he just looks at you

you weren’t oblivious about it tho

in fact, it was distracting you

because you can really feel his gaze piercing on you, and you can’t focus on your studies because you just want to look at him too

tho as much as you want to, you also have a huge exam next day, and you don’t wanna fail that so you have no choice but to just leave

junhui was sad while seeing you walk out

and you saw of course

so you promised to yourself to come again tomorrow

and so you did,

not just the day after that

but you visit everyday

you and him were a bit awkward at first

he knew your order already

“i mean, if you’re not busy–”

“im not!” he interrupted too quickly to which you laughed on

and that was you first date, you were the one to ask him out

and he didn’t really give you a choice at all, honestly

“we’ve been in to so many dates, will you be mine already? yes or yes?”

when joshua heard about this, he was like ‘FINALLY!!’

coffee dates became your thing, and joshua was always the one to serve your coffees

and stay with him on the café if he needs to work overtime

junhui is just thankful to have you

and he would never ask for more after having you

because you’re all he needed

eventually, you started working on the café too

Boy am I late. Projects. They’re hungry little monsters.

Rules: Answer 10 questions and tag 10 writers.

1. Your main character is designing their dream house. What does it look like?

Kei is not much of an interior designer I fear. He would go for loads of space, for the dancing, obviously, but also for the dogs he’d want to have. Oh, and he’d try to convince all of his group members to live with him. He’d pester Ace and Owen the most about it and Ace would actually be happy to join. The location would cause him conflict, because he has to stay close to his workplace but hasn’t seen his family in a long time (”What do you mean all your friends live there, mom, I miss you and that other apartment is nicer than yours right now”).

2. What is the weirdest thing that has ever inspired a WIP?

Okay, so this is a WIP that is very much just starting out (as in, I only have names for two characters while normally characters and their names come first for me), but it’s basically about a group of students deciding to revitalize the old medieval code of chivalry in today’s world. I got the story idea after reading an article about Don Quijote stating that he was actually the only one sane out of all of the characters from the novel, because he was the only one that didn’t accept the dirty and innoble reality of his time as a given and insisted on behaving in a totally different and both anachronical and revolutionary way. In that sense, Don Quijote can be read as the story of an old man dissatisfied with the world who assumes what he holds as the ideal behaviour while also assuming that everybody else will respond in the same way and how his chivalry and naiveté make him the punching bag of everybody he comes across.

I’m passionate about the idea and ideal of the chivalrious knight, okay? 

3. Which character in your current WIP is the most fun to write and why?

They all have their little (or slightly larger) quirks and I love them. I am therefore very bad at chosing. What I can say, however, is that I love writing the various ways in which my boys go wrong again and again in a half-conscious effort to not go the right way because they know it’ll be hella painful. Basically have them resist their character development.

5. The characters in your current WIP are in high school. Who gets voted “Most Popular/Most Likely to End up in Jail/Friendliest” etc.?

Most popular: Kei and Daemin. Seriously, everybody loves Daemin and spoils him rotten. If the boys’ fans had a say, it would be X.U. (followed closely by Kei).

Most Likely to End up in Jail: Ace, voted unanimously. He’s not so happy about that. Ok also suggests Rai, because his stare is just that scary for him. As their creator, I agree with Ace, if he were placed under extreme conditions, but Ecco could get close to be convicted via crime of omission.

Friendliest: Seung (bc they haven’t seen his dark side - yet), Owen, Lue

Most likely to become president: Ecco, hands down. Even I can’t disagree with that.

Biggest Diva: X.U. all the way!

Teacher’s pet: Seung

Most likely to win a Nobel prize: Rai. I’d put my wages on Tadashi as well, tho. The kid has potential.

6. Tell us a place in the world that you desperately want to visit and why.

Backpacking through Eurasia, because I like walking and I want to see all these places up close! South Korea, because I want to learn the language (and make my WIP the most accurate possible. What have I gotten myself into)! Weta Workshop in New Zealand (they made all the props and costumes and character designs and creature designs and sets for LOTR and The Hobbit and I love their work)!

7. What is the absolute trashiest TV show that you’ve ever watched?

Huh. I don’t really watch TV shows and if one of them doesn’t grab my interest, I’ll drop it very quickly. But I just watched xXx: The Return of Xander Cage today and it’s so. basic. but so much fun 

8. Hollywood comes knocking, wanting to put your life story on the big screen. Who’s cast to play you? What about your nemesis/love interest?

Jennifer Lawrence as me, maybe? And I haven’t really had a love interest yet, so no chance on that i have had a crush on Aidan Turner tho so... Anyway, my antagonist is myself, so good luck to Jennifer Lawrence with that! Also, I want Cate Blanchett as my mom, and Sir Ian McKellen and Maggie Smith as my grandparents.

9. Favorite flowers and why?

Roses. My grandmother has some in her garden that have the most amazing smell and colour ever.

10. Is there a genre that you’d love to break into in the future?

I’d say fantasy, but I have already sorta broken into it. So let’s go with romance. I normally work with big big BIIIIIIIIIIIIG plots (like epic quests and evil governments and stuff), so to have the relationship between two characters be the center of a story is quite challenging for me i’m also a romantic person.

Montgomery, Alabama

After Birmingham my next step was 1.5 hours south, the state capital Montgomery, another historically-charged city in the South. I read it was pretty sleepy (truth) so I decided I would just spend a few hours there but my time did not disappoint. Even more so than Birmingham, Montgomery is a step back in time with important lessons for the present. If only they would learn....

My first stop off I-65 was the brand new National Memorial for Peace and Justice. It opened last year to commemorate victims of racially-motivated violence, from slavery to police killings, but its primary focus is lynchings. Atop a grassy hill under a low slung roof hang 400 rectangular iron slabs, one for each county where lynchings took place (mostly in the South, but parts of the midwest too). On each slab is engraved the name of the county and the people who were lynched there (tho only a fraction of the victims and their stories are known). The pathway slopes downward in a loop until the slabs’ hanging effect becomes unmistakeable. Along the sides are engraved inspirational quotes and the shocking stories of some of the victims (one man was lynched after a coat went missing). The horrific details of torture and death are not spared. Outside this roofed area an identical set of 400 slabs lie on the ground like a field of coffins, waiting for each county to pick theirs up and display it, in an attempt to create a truly national memorial and a semblance of accountability. It’s deeply saddening and moving, a truly provocative, moving, overdue addition to our country’s national monuments. But unlike, say, the Vietnam Memorial, here you must have your bags inspected, pass through a metal detector and be told not to take selfies with the statues of tormented slaves in chains. How awful that those precautions are still needed.

From there I moved to Montgomery’s most famous institution, the Rosa Parks Museum. It has two halves: a children’s wing that tells a very simplified version of black history from slavery to Jim Crow (all while sitting on a “time machine” bus with hydraulics driven by the robot Mr. Rivets); and a wing focused on Parks’ protest and the ensuing bus boycott. Annoyingly the ticket person didn’t tell me that the first part was for children when he sold me a ticket, so I wasted 30 minutes riding this Magic School Bus. At least I was all alone (except for Mr. Rivets) so I didn’t have to give up my seat to anyone.

I decided to postpone the second half of the museum and walk through downtown Montgomery to the capitol building. The main street, Dexter Ave, has not changed much since Parks was arrested there almost 65 years ago. Most of the storefronts are deserted and judging by the signage left behind, they have been empty for decades. Some of the structures are quite beautiful and historic, such as the fountain at Court Square (originally a slave market and later the bus stop where Parks boarded that bus) and the Winter Building (where the Confederate leaders sent a telegram to their generals permitting them to fire upon Fort Sumter, which started the Civil War). But mostly it’s pretty bleak. Even the more modern government buildings at the end are really unattractive smorgasbords of too many architectural styles.

The capitol building itself is fairly nice. The grounds are well-maintained, and they had the decency to remove the Confederate flags from their massive monument to the Confederacy.... (Fittingly I had the disgust of seeing Jeff Sessions pass by as I was photographing the monument.) The building has undergone several expansions and renovations and even tho there has been some attempt to restore original details, it still looks like the interior came from Julia Sugarbaker of “Designing Women.” The walls are mostly painted pink and lavender, and the carpeting and chandeliers are quite... ornate. The original Senate chamber is where the Confederacy was born, and the front steps are where Jefferson Davis was sworn in as president. (Over one hundred years later, MLK would address 25,000 supporters from those steps after they walked in protest from Selma, the first attempt ending in the police severely beating the marchers.) Weirdly I think I saw maybe three people working in the entire STATE CAPITOL, not to mention the dozen I saw walking around the city for an hour. It is sleepy there....

Montgomery has an interesting way of addressing its dual history as the birthplace of both the Confederacy and the Civil Rights Movement. The public signage is notably impassive: “This happened here. This happened there.” Of course true objectivity doesn’t exist-- they use “secede” and “secession” a lot, rather than, say, “rebel” and “traitor”-- but I do think the state has struck the right chord. They know how divisive their history continues to be. They clearly just want to acknowledge historic events and keep the government neutral in these heated discussions, a wise lesson for Alabama. (My biggest gripe is that I saw nothing acknowledging that Montgomery began as an important port for slave trading. Even the sign at the riverfront only mentioned that the port traded a lot of cotton, grain “and other commodities”.)

The non-state sites, such as the Rosa Parks Museum and the Lynching Memorial, stir enough passion to make up for the official indifference. My next stop was the National Civil Rights Memorial, an homage to 40 people who died as martyrs during the Civil Rights struggle, Some of them were active protestors; others were bystanders whose deaths helped propel the movement. Some are familiar, like Medgar Evers, Emmett Till and MLK; others are unknown. The terrifying, harrowing personal stories hit hard. Outside of the museum is a water sculpture designed by Maya Lin (of the Vietnam War Memorial) that is solemn and dignified, while its flowing water and circular design suggest the struggle has always been happening and continues to this day.

After this it was time for lunch at Dreamland, a small Alabama BBQ chain that was as delicious as it was friendly. It’s in an area just northwest of downtown by the riverfront that is undergoing a promising, well, gentrification. It’s full of beautiful old brick factories and warehouses that are being restored and converted into lofts, galleries, restaurants, bars, etc. It sounds tragic to coastal ears, but I think Montgomery could really benefit from development that draws in young people. And the restorations look remarkable.

After lunch I walked to Old Alabama Town, a collection of small old homes spread across several blocks that display what the city used to look like (I’m not sure when exactly). It was cute and charming but not architecturally noteworthy and hardly worth the walk over. I went back, past the Hank Williams statue, and popped over to the riverfront, also not worth the walk (at least not on a grey winter day).

My last stop was back at the Rosa Parks Museum to see the “grown-up” wing I missed before. It’s one of these museums that makes you sit through various presentations rather than proceed at your own pace. I’m not a fan of that, especially when I’m tired and trying to get to Mobile before the rain and dark arrive. The first video describes life for blacks under segregation and explains how the bus segregation was the most hated of all, which was actually pretty interesting. It tells Rosa Parks’ backstory as well, but although it explains how she worked with the NAACP, it glosses over how much of her protest was plotted in advance so that the museum can stick to the “just a tired lady on the bus” narrative. Once that video ends, some doors open and lead the viewers into a room designed to look like a bus stop, complete with the shell of an old bus. In the windows a video is playing, and for the next ten minutes actors in the video recreate the scene when Parks wouldn’t give up her seat. It sounds weird-- and it was-- but somehow it works. (Fun fact: under city law Parks was allowed to sit where she was and did not have to give up her seat, tho neither she nor the driver was aware.) Unfortunately I had to skip the self-guided history of the boycott (which is really the best part) because my meter was running out. I also decided to skip the Lynching Memorial’s sister Legacy Museum. It sounds amazing, but I wanted to get on the road and frankly, it sounds really depressing, and I had had enough for the day.

I then left for Mobile (to be continued) and while I was having dinner there I caught up on the news of the day. It turns out that while I was touring Montgomery’s and Alabama’s tortured history of discrimination, the US Supreme Court handed down a decision in the case of Domenique Rey. Rey is a Muslim man on death row in... Alabama. After exhausting his appeals, he asked that an imam be allowed to pray with him during his execution. The state told him that only the officially sanctioned (Christian) chaplain would be allowed. Rey appealed, citing the Constitution’s anti-establishment clause which forbids the government from favoring any religions. The Eleventh Circuit stayed his execution but the US Supreme Court decided against him. The new conservative majority of five thought that because his petition arrived just weeks before the execution, he was only trying to delay it (nevermind that he filed as soon as he learned the imam would not be allowed). Even many conservative commentators think this will go down as one of the Court’s worst decisions, along with Dred Scott and Plessy (which I learned about on the time machine bus tour!). Curiously, after the Eleventh Circuit stayed the execution, Alabama figured the jig was up so they changed the rule so that no clergy of any faith would be allowed to comfort the condemned during an execution. This echoes the state’s tactics during the fight against segregation, when they closed parks, pools, schools, etc. rather than integrate them. Alabama, will you ever grow up?!

What made you go into art in the first place? Like was it a gradual thing or an instant that you decided to be an animator?

Oh this’ll be a long one since it was a question I ask myself pretty often. Could be a lil personal, but sh.

Well, for art wise, it was a hobby that was picked up all because I found out about the warrior cats fandom through Youtube. 

Yeah, I drew like the occasional stick figures (actually triangle ppl with oval heads) and weird creatures because they were fun to draw, but actually drawing something with a meaning? I was drawing warrior cats and my fursona with a fan-made clan because of this fucking fandom. I was so inspired to draw cats and try animating them like my favorite animators. (GinganinjaOwO, Squizy, NiftySenpai, Milkfake [even tho she barely animated warrior cats i was still deeply inspired by her animations lol], etc) I actually don’t remember the time I started drawing; it’s just kinda vague since all I remember from growing up was being “the best drawer” in elementary. I think I started animating when I got my first phone in high school and I learned about Flipaclip. I still have it lol.

Now, when starting high schools in Las Vegas, there are schools called CTA (Career and Technical Academy) schools designed with programs (like culinary, game dev. [v popular], web design, etc.) to get kids ready for college/understand their major before going to college. They were very popular to attend since they were basically private, magnet schools that you could only get to through a raffle.

At a young age (maybe like 6-8 years old), I was always nudged about my college option. I wanted to go to the big colleges, like USC, UCLA, NYU, etc. etc. etc. because my parent’s friend’s kids were going there, but there was the biggest problem for my stupid ass. I had to pick a major. Many of the options I picked were the hobbies/interests I found along the way.

(((YOU CAN SKIP THIS PART ALSO; IT’S JUST ALL THE INTERESTS I HAD BEFORE I PICKED UP ON ANIMATION)))

- Botany ( [age 6-10] living in the middle of the fucking forest, i was a huge treehugger. my favorite color was green at the time bc of plants. i dropped the career plan after i picked up a biology book and couldn’t understand how do flowers reproduce for a grade. i usually got like a C, at most a B, in all of my science classes.)

- Culinary ( [6-now] my parents opened a restaurant when we lived in washington, which got my interest into cooking. i watched the food network all the time when i had cable and we have a huge selection of cookbooks that i actually have right next to my desk rn that i plan to read and keep. i even thought i was ready to work for my parents when i learned how to cook the “perfect ramen” out of the package. when choosing my high school, my first choice was to pick culinary. however, my parents FORBID me to go into culinary/any food-related career mainly because of the food industry and their experiences with their food-relate jobs. i still have interest in cooking, but it’s more of a hobby.

- Environmental Design/Landscaping ( [13-now] i got this hobby when i moved into our brand spankin’ house and my parents wanted to design their own backyard. this was when i realized i wasn’t interested in plants; i was more interested in the aesthetic of plants. this quickly turned into a gardening hobby. we got a garden in the backyard lol

- Interior Design ( [12-now] now here’s the real banger. this was the program i stuck with for 4 of my damned high school years. i was first interested because my family was looking for a brand spankin’ house and we were looking through model homes for like 2 whole years. i chose my school specifically bc it was the only school that promoted their interior design program before i realized all the CTA schools had an interior design program but they didn’t promote them when the high schools came to my middle school. choosing interior design was actually like a gateway to my interest in art schools since most of my classmates turned into design (or literally anything that’s not related to interior design like fashion, marketing, etc.) students. during my sophomore year, i realized i should’ve picked game dev. bc it had the most art creation in that program but i was already too invested in finishing off this fucking program. i developed a love-hate relationship for interior design bc i studied it for 4 years and now it’s just a hobby i picked mainly for the aesthetic of living.

Finally was ANIMATION. I was drawing for most of my life, from drawing on the walls with crayon, to now. But I didn’t think too much about it. At this point in picking a college, I was one year away from having to choose a major before the tests I had to take asked for my planned major and I had none picked out. I had no interest in going to anywhere for a career. I had no interest in anything except drawing; but that was slowly coming to a stop just like all my other interests. I didn’t even know you could draw for a career. I learned about animation as a career when I first meet my friend, Kiba or Kibadoglover45, when I entered her stream one day and heard she attended SVA. As the friendship grew, I decided illustration/animation was the only thing I had to go into. Why? It was the only thing I was good at. I didn’t have any interest at that point besides drawing, and my parents would not let me into college for something I wasn’t interested in. It was at the time that I was ready to just quit a plan for the future because I really didn’t have a plan. All my relatives suggested medical (i refuse to go to medical mainly bc my biggest phobia is literally medical) or accounting (i don’t know jack shit about money) because it made some REAL good money. I didn’t want to hear about it. They didn’t understand.

I was at my sophomore year in high school and was moving to junior year when I meet my online friends and I had recently stopped drawing because I wasn’t improving the way I wanted to. Also it was when I stopped talking to my previous online/RP friends after all the drama/toxicity and my main outlet for drawing was to draw my RP characters. After meeting my new online friends, they encouraged me to keep drawing and that’s when the burst of characters and stories started. I remembered making fanart for someone in that stream, who turned to my friend, Lady/Snow, and telling her that I stopped drawing long ago and that I thought I wasn’t as good as her. She told me to keep drawing because she saw potential in me. My friends were my biggest inspirations and motivators and if it weren’t for them, I would’ve not picked up on animation. Kiba and Milk’s animations were so fucking spectacular and their improvements were just absolutely goals, and I wanted to be just like that. I wanted to inspire others to animate and draw. I was set on having animation as a career in my junior year and now I’m here.

aa i understand!! i had to take some time off too because the whole situation made me really sad :( i’m just hoping they at least know they were in the wrong and that they’re learning by themselves, but i don’t expect a lot from celebrities. but other than that, i’ve been good!! i’m really sad henggarae promotions are over too, but we have the japanese comback to look forward too at least!! and thank you so much!! i actually won a giveaway on here and so i have a henggarae album on the way as well!!!! i wasn’t expecting to win it at all since i have such bad luck LMAO. hopefully i pull a gyu pic at least once in my life ahaha. i got the set version bc the pictures looked really soft :((. have you gotten your biases first pull from an album?? i hope your albums got to you already as i’m replying to you! n when i first started stanning svt, i thought mingyu and wonwoo were twins but they,, are completely different people. also a lot of ppl mix up wonwoo and seokmin too which i see a lot now :O my first bias was chan during adore u era :D i really liked his spiky orange hair in the adore u mv and then later on when he had blond highlights!! i used to stan exo before svt and the age gap was greater between me and the members and so naturally i grew to like dino a lot because we were close in age. and then when i started learning their names, i grew to love mingyu a lot D: i think this video is what really sealed the deal in me being a gyu fan for life. he’s been my ult for the longest time,, out of any idol or group!! i became a seokmin stan just recently during home era, though. i remember the exact day too because this day,, is just forever ingrained in my memory. was seokmin your first ever bias then? also idk why i rly hate this term but do you have any bias wreckers LOL.

I am Crying thank u so much thank u for Finally asking abt my ocs I have so many of them and I love them all so much so I’ll just sum up my few main ones and favorites (buckle up and also this whole story takes place in london as of now bc I’m uncreative):

Beckett (full name Beckett James Montgomery) is a happy little man who’s full of love and also a lot of chronic illnesses and other conditions. He just has really rough luck but he’s still pretty content with things. He’s working hard to overcome his shyness to set boundaries with others and he’s becoming a lot more confident in himself!! Of course losing a large portion of your childhood to illness and injury is pretty traumatic but he has a really solid support system. He loves his friends and is also very passionate about horticulture. And some other facts abt Beckett:

his favorite colour is pink (which is why his hair is pink throughout his teens and into his 20s but it’s naturally a mousy brown!)

he’s big gay

he’s a manlet (5'6")

he goes on to open up a plant nursery

he plays piano

his entire life is like 1/8th of a plan and 7/8ths of a prayer

Cherry Nova Griffin is a cool girl who’s super smart and just the raddest ever. She’s the older sister friend despite being the baby of her family bc she really really cares abt her friends and wants the best for them. She’s no square so she’s not gonna harsh anyone’s vibe but she is very sensible so u won’t go fucking yourself up on her watch bc she’s your voice of reason. This doesn’t mean she doesn’t partake in her friends foolishness, she just makes sure the foolishness goes smoothly. She’s super smart and very interested in science. She’s also pretty much always dressed to the nines (heavily influenced by her sister Azalea who’s a fashion icon). And some more facts abt Cherry:

her favorite colour is purple

her and elfie are the co-Just Dance™ wii champions of their friend group

she comes out as a lesbian in her 20s because that Internalized Home Of Phobia Tho

she’s 5 foot nothing she’s Small (she looks nothing like her two tall, rake thin older siblings)

her and Beckett are childhood friends, meeting when Beckett joined her class at school when they were both 7 or so

she’s always trying to prove herself to others but she has enough people around her that know how cool she is

Elfie Pepper (or Elfie Kiyoko Takemago-Pepper) is a fun, spritely Irish girl (her mom and biological father are Japanese but she was born in Ireland and raised there by her mom and now-stepdad). She’s super funny and very much the life of the party like she will always get u to chuckle. She can make any situation better just by being there bc she’s hilarious and rad. Her girlfriend is a super butch buff athlete but Elfie’s more often than not found eating lucky charms straight out of the box on her couch. She does like to skateboard tho and she’s pretty darn good at it. She’s the friend who makes all the playlists for driving/partying/chilling bc her music taste is universally liked (without her everyone would be fighting to play their own tunes she’s the peacemaker). Basically everyone likes Elfie. Now for The Facts:

she’s probably the rowdiest of the bunch. she’s like permanently cranked up to 100

Elfie is Big Lesbian

she’s a decent base player

her mom wanted to name her Kiyoko but let her hippie boyfriend pick the name Elfie for her

she moved to England when she was 12 and joined Beckett and Cherry’s squad then

She’s like 5'3" their whole squad is Tiny

Eleanor Lucille Atwin is the only one tall one in their squad. She’s 5'11" and the definite mom friend of Elfie, Cherry, and Beckett. She’s always got snacks and extra sweaters and pain medication and makeup wipes on her. She’s patient and caring and will have your back no matter what. You could indefinitely count on her in a crisis. Eleanor is also trans and has really been through it and still sometimes struggles with loving herself (not to mention dealing with transphobia) but she receives endless love and support from her friends. She’s good at painting and is always lookin super pretty. And some Eleanor facts:

she’s 20

she was born in Yukon, Canada

she joined the main group when she was 15

she’s prefers painting with watercolours

she marries her high school sweetheart (a ginger soccer/football player who’s like the only cishet guy involved in this story)

she goes on to become an interior designer bc she’s got rly good taste

Kimmo Alric Seppänen (23) is kind of a bitch, but he’s been through a Lot so it’s kind of expected. He had a really rough childhood where he was neglected severely by his parents before he was taken out of their house and placed with his adoptive parents who treated him super well and loved him a lot. He struggled a lot with fitting in and became really edgy in high school where he started dating Fredrik on and off. Then after school he had problems with addiction and did a lot of unhealthy shit but he eventually sorted it out. Now he’s living with Fredrik in London and they play in a band together (he still smokes like a pack a day). Kimmo is grumpy, and prone to lashing out, but he’s also a talented musician, wise beyond his years, and very dryly funny. He’s hard to get through to, but oddly lovable when you get to know him. And some Kimmo facts:

he was born and raised in Jyväskylä, Finland

he’s a killer guitarist and an adequate singer

he has a total of 12 piercings, most of which he got in his teens

he was diagnosed with Klinefelter’s syndrome in his early teens

he uses he/they pronouns and hes bi

his nose is crooked as shit from being broken several times

Fredrik Jeremiias Harmaajärvi is beefy and dumb. He’s the second oldest of 4 brothers. He’s like a big stupid golden retriever: cute and overall friendly, but kinda air-headed. He drinks too much (though he has captain america-level alcohol tolerance) and doesn’t notice many emotional cues from others, especially his emotionally unstable boyfriend Kimmo. When he was 21, he formed a band with some friends and Kimmo (his then ex-boyfriend whom he had newly reunited with). Kimmo and Fredrik moved to London after the band lost its two original members. Fredrik is easygoing and fun, but he has literally no brain cells. Some facts:

he’s a killer singer and an adequate guitar player

He’s also from Jyväskylä

His whole family is absolutely disgustingly beautiful (to his kinda ugly bfs dismay)

pure, unconcentrated himbo

His band is primarily punk/garage rock but Fredrik loves pop music

he’s also pretty into fitness and maintaining his image so he frequently goes to the gym (this is why he’s a big muscly Viking man)

Phoenix Delphinus Griffin is Cherry’s oldest sibling and he’s also a gem and a treasure. He’s a professional dancer and dance instructor. He’s 6'5" and all lanky, wirey muscle. He’s a laid-back, sociable guy who easily builds relationships with others. He acts super chill on the outside but he does struggle with pretty bad anxiety. He’s very fit and health conscious and is always up early to go to the gym or go for a run or drink a smoothie or whatever healthy people do. He has a number of large friend groups and is probably the most “popular” of all my ocs. And some facts abt him:

Phoenix has a phobia of drowning and is very uncomfortable with swimming in large bodies of water

he prefers contemporary ballet, but he’s trained in classical ballet and tap as well

he was once in a local production of cats the musical (he played macavity and plato due to his height and lack of singing required for the roles) and his friends won’t let him live it down

he’s bi

he dated the bassist in kimmo and fredrik’s band for a few months

he’s just a way friendly dude everyone loves him

Just for the Night (Hoseok x Reader)

Prompt request: “Are you hurt?”

Summary: Hoseok is a famous actor, and you happen to be working as a stylist on set. You and Hoseok have undeniable chemistry, but will anything come out of it?

Word count: 1.4k words

You watched as Hoseok recited his final line. Throughout the past few months of filming, you had been completely awed by Hoseok’s presence and charisma. He was always energetic and cheerful, and his acting was stellar. You understood why the young star had risen to fame so quickly.

Plus, you were also stunned by Hoseok’s good looks. You had seen him on screen before, but in real life, it was a whole different story.

Unfortunately, with filming already wrapping up, you realized you never got the chance to talk to Hoseok. You figured a star like him would have no interest in you–a college student interning as a makeup artist. You didn’t want to get your hopes up, anyway.

The crew members and cast erupted into cheers as the final scene concluded. Filming was over. It was a bittersweet moment for you; the experience was amazing and you were sad to be saying goodbye.

With a quiet sigh, you retreated to the dressing rooms with a few other makeup artists. You only handled the secondary or background characters, so you never came into contact with the big stars.

One of the supporting characters was played by a young actress named Mina, who was around your age. She treated you like an equal, which wasn’t very common in your experiences.

“Hey, Y/N!” Mina called, running up to you and draping her arm across your shoulders. “Can you believe it? Filming’s done! Isn’t it crazy?”

“I know,” you replied sadly. “I’m kinda sad. I had so much fun working here.”

“So, once you graduate, just come work here again!” Mina chirped. “It’ll be so cool seeing all of our hard work on the big screen, you know?”

“That’s true,” you laughed. The two of you disappeared into a changing room, where you made quick work of removing Mina’s makeup and hair extensions. You chatted idly as you did so, Mina carrying most of the conversation. After a few minutes, you were finally finished. Mina changed into her regular clothes and you two exited the room.

“So, are you going to the dinner?” Mina asked as you walked through the production building’s long hallway. “The place is really nice! I mean, I’ve never been there, but I heard it’s awesome.”

“I don’t think I’m going to go,” you said reluctantly. “I dunno, it’s not really my thing. Plus, I’m an intern. The actual crew might not be too happy to have me there.”

“Don’t say that!” Mina exclaimed, slapping your arm lightly. “You do a ton of work, and you’re not even paid! You deserve a free, fancy dinner.”

“Amen,” you muttered. You turned a corner, entering the building’s large lobby. Crew and cast members were already congregating there, talking excitedly. “But still. It’ll be uncomfortable. I’m just going to go home after this.”

“You’re not coming to the dinner?” a voice suddenly asked from behind you. Both you and Mina spun around, stunned into silence upon seeing Hoseok standing just a few feet away from you.

“I-I’m not, no,” you replied quickly, tripping over your words. Barefaced and in casual clothing, Hoseok was still radiant. He smiled at you, and you had to physically resist the urge to swoon.

“Why not? It’ll be fun. Plus, free food,” Hoseok grinned. “For real, you should come, Y/N.”

“I, uh, I’ll t-think about it,” you stammered, reeling from the fact Hoseok knew your name.

“Hope I’ll see you there,” Hoseok said, shooting you a thumbs up. “You too, Mina.” With that, he walked away, presumably to talk to someone more important.

You turned to Mina, your mouth hanging open. Mina had a similar expression on her face.

“He knows my name,” you whispered to her. “Holy fuck. Why does he know my name?”

“I have no idea,” Mina replied, her voice bursting with excitement. “But you better find out!”

Two hours later, you arrived at a luxurious restaurant stuffed into one of Mina’s designer dresses. Uncomfortable in heels, you waddled up to the front of the restaurant where a few other people you recognized were standing. Mina patted your arm encouragingly, knowing how out of place you felt.

After some small talk, you were whisked into the restaurant. It was dimly lit, the interior design modern and sleek. The entire place just radiated wealth. You were itching to leave, but you wanted to talk to Hoseok once before the night ended. A girl could dream, after all.

The company had booked a whole section of the restaurant, so you and Mina just took a small table and waited to be served. Mina chattered away, and you listened attentively to whatever drama was happening in the world of celebrities. You didn’t care, really, but you had to admit it was interesting.

Eventually, dinner was served. Earlier, you had ordered lobster because you knew it was expensive. You hadn’t been paid for your labour, so you sure as hell were going to milk this free dinner for all it was worth. You had also been drinking champagne nonstop, so when you started to feel a little dizzy, you had to take a breather.

“I’m gonna go to the washroom,” you announced, pushing away from the table. Mina nodded, her mouth full of food, and waved you away. Teetering on your high heels, you searched the dark restaurant for a washroom in vain. Wandering aimlessly, you eventually found a hallway leading somewhere.

You continued walking down the hall, hoping it didn’t lead out of the building. Just as you were turning a corner, you collided with something solid. Stumbling back, you flailed as you tried to catch your balance.

Hands grabbed onto yours, keeping you steady.

“Are you hurt?” Hoseok asked, concern ringing his voice. “Oh, Y/N! You came!”

“I-I’m fine,” you blushed, letting your hands fall from Hoseok’s warm grip. “And yeah, I did. The food was good, so I’m not complaining.”

“You should’ve come talk to me sooner,” Hoseok pouted. His expression quickly turned serious, and his eyes turned dangerously dark as he looked down at you. “But you look really good tonight, Y/N.”

“Thank you,” you said quietly, biting your lip. You peered up into Hoseok’s eyes shyly. “You look nice, too.”

“Tell me if I’m reading this wrong,” Hoseok mumbled as he leaned down, his face hovering inches away from yours. You could feel his breath ghosting across your lips. When you made no attempt to move, Hoseok closed the distance, and his lips met yours.

Maybe it was the champagne, or maybe it was just Hoseok, but you wrapped your arms around his neck and kissed him back. It was messy and too quick, but it sent shivers down your spine. Hoseok’s mouth was so warm, and his wandering hands drew you in.

“Fuck,” Hoseok groaned, pulling away to catch his breath. You panted in unison. “I’ve been wanting to do that since I first saw you.”

“You should have told me sooner,” you laughed, threading your fingers through Hoseok’s soft hair. You tugged the strands gently. “But better late than never.”

“True,” Hoseok smirked. He stepped back and grabbed your hands. “Here, follow me.”

He led you further down the hallway where there were–like you were looking for–washrooms. Hoseok pulled you into the empty washroom, clicking the lock behind you. When he turned back to look at you, the expression on his face almost predatory. You smiled at him. A challenge, which he readily accepted.

And if Hoseok liked you in Mina’s dress, he certainly liked you even more without it.

After that night with Hoseok, you parted ways without a word. Well, there were words. Hoseok was as excitable as ever. But there were no promises of keeping in touch or relationships. Both of you knew that was impossible.

So, your internship ended and you returned to school. You were actually studying special effects makeup–niche, you knew. After your final year in college, you returned to the industry with a bang. After working on a few small projects, you landed a position on a huge film project.

When you walked in on the first day, the last person you were expecting to see was Hoseok.

He spotted you almost immediately, a smile tipping the corners of his lips upward. His eyes darkened–just like they did that one night–as he looked you up and down.

“Y/N,” Hoseok said, your name sounding like honey. “Nice to see you again.”
