Twice's Private Manager
Tumblr media
Chapter links are at the bottom of this post.
You are hired by JYPE to be a manager for Twice, in charge of their more personal requirements. For fear of scandals, Twice members are not allowed to have relationships, so your job requires you to fulfill their intimate and emotional needs.
Heavily biased towards the J-line, but will contain smut for most members.
Quick note: I am writing this disclaimer now, after finishing the story. This was my first piece of work and I want to believe my writing improved greatly towards the end, so bear with the earlier writing. That being said, I am not going to go back and try to improve previous chapters in a way to bring them up to the new standard I try to hold for myself, I'd rather leave it as is so that I can see my growth. Enjoy!
The Tumblr version of the story will be strictly speaking "better" because I didn't start proofing the original until around Chapter 19, but this version will be fully proofread!

Updated Masterlist of Writing and Art
Tumblr media
About the writer/artist: I like to write and paint. My current obsession is Sandman, but I enjoy most fantasy fandoms as well as anime (I think I’m on season seven billion of One Piece right now 🤣). I'm also weird as they come (and awkward, too), so just please ignore my oddball (coughTERRIBLEcough) sense of humor.
On a more personal note, I have PTSD and suffer from severe manic depressive episodes. Writing and art are my most familiar coping mechanisms, and I need them like I need oxygen. Seriously, there were times in my life that knowing I had to finish a story or a piece of art was the only thing stopping me from ending up dead. So, I don't take part in fandom drama. Having my peace and protecting my mental health are very big deals to me, and I won't risk those for anything if I can help it.
As for my writing, it ranges from short one-shots to ridiculously long novel series. I use third person POV (on longer series) as well as second person (on shorter things). I also try to always exclude physical descriptions when writing main character OCs and assign them nicknames to avoid using Y/N. I love to read Y/N fics, but writing them makes me feel like I'm at work. And who actually wants to ever feel like they're at work when they're engaging in a hobby? Definitely not me.
Lastly, there's usually more stuff on my AO3 page than I have listed here, because I forget to post it pretty often. Oops. I'll get around to moving it all over one day. Probably. Maybe.
Feel free to leave an ask if you want or just drop by my DMs. <3
Artwork links are at the bottom of this list, so if you're here for those, that's where they are.
Sandman 'Verse
All the Precious and Fragile Things (so easily do they break)
After banishing his lover from the Dreaming for her betrayal, Morpheus learns that she is pregnant with his child.
And that she’s been captured by a revenge-seeking Alexander Burgess.
What the both of them are unaware of is that this will set in motion a cascade of unfavorable events, causing a chain reaction that threatens the whole of existence itself.

Epilogue
Sometimes He's Sweet
Morpheus hates the holidays.
As excited as she seems to experience the mortal holiday, he's… less so. Much less so. With the entire collective unconscious contained within him, this time of year can be wholly overwhelming, a miasma of too much red and green, too much worry, too much loneliness, too much excitement, too many similarly themed dreams, too many similarly themed nightmares, and far far too many holiday songs. It all bleeds out from the collective unconscious into his own mind, sticks there like weeping sap to a tree until he feels half-mad with the unrelenting presence of it, with his inability to get free from its cloying trespass upon his very being.
This is just a little sweet fluff for the holiday season. It takes place between chapters 19 and 20 of "All the Precious and Fragile Things". No spoilers here if you've read that far!
The Dog Debacle (or how best to sneak a dragon into the dreaming)
Morpheus' daughter gets a new dog.
Well..... kind of.
That Familiar Feeling of Family (or how Hob Gadling ended up as an uncle to his stranger's oftentimes feral children)
It's a pretty universally known thing that families are just strange. As Hob is quickly figuring out, however, this little fact is magnified by AT LEAST a billion when the family in question is Endless.
(A lighthearted story in which Hob Gadling finds out his stranger has married, makes friends with a homicidal maniac/ruler, and manages to become an exemplary uncle to a pack of magically mischievous children. Really, now all he has to do is convince everyone to stop calling his and Dream's weekly meetups "playdates", and then his life would be practically perfect.)
Chapter 1
Chapter 2
The Maker, the Muse, and the Sundered Song
In his temple, what remains of Orpheus waits in trepidation. Something is changing. Something that he knows might alter the very fabric of the world as he understands it.
Finally freed from captivity, Calliope struggles to make any meaningful changes to the laws that saw her bound and taken in the first place. When the strange woman appears on Mount Parnassus and offers help, Calliope knows she would be a fool not to accept it. Even if she thinks that she's being lied to.
Meanwhile in the peace of the Dreaming, Morpheus grapples with guilt over his son's fate. As he basks in the love of his new children, he can't help but to regret his own failings where Orpheus is concerned.
And as for May, she's really just got a job to do. And her own traumatic issues to deal with. And if it's all hella awkward because she's having to work alongside her husband's ex-wife, she'll see it done anyway. There's even the small possibility that she might eventually admit to Calliope the truth about her identity. That is if she can ever actually work up the courage to say it aloud.
Chapter 1
Nothing in This Closet but Boots and a Boy
Morpheus is wildly protective of his daughter.
That's probably bad for the boy in said daughter's closet.
AU's and Other Stuff in the Sandman 'Verse
Of Exes, Hellhounds, and Waffle Fries
Morpheus shows up to rescue the woman he probably loves (though he won't admit it) from hellhounds and ends up getting roped into helping with her family. This is one of those extras that doesn't fit into the main story, but it's fun, so I'm posting it.

Ever since that dinner, you felt like you were being watched. Now and then you noticed Chan staring at you a little too long and cautiously, as if he was expecting you to do something again. You even suspected he had asked Felix to keep an eye on you as well. Felix often seemed to pop out of nowhere when you were alone, finding all kinds of excuses to stick around and not leave you to yourself.
But neither of them were anything compared to Minho. Although, he seemed to be following you for an entirely different reason.
Just like Chan and Felix, he seemed to be secretly watching you, popping out of nowhere and lingering around you. However, compared to the slightly anxious and worried looks from Chan and Felix, which were making you uncomfortable and irritated, Minho had a completely different effect on you.
Whenever he was around you, you could feel a sense of eagerness and anticipation, but most of all … wanting.
There was no inquisitive worry in his eyes, but something else entirely. His gaze reminded you of a predator looking at its prey. Now and then you caught him biting his bottom lip whenever you tucked your hair behind your ear or licking his bottom lip when you sucked on a popsicle.
He wanted you. Badly. And you knew it.
This position of power made you want to experiment, to tease him, and to see how far you could go until he snapped...
You would go out of your way to make Minho jealous. From cuddling the other guys, to sitting in their laps. You would look at Minho and bat your eyelashes at him sweetly. It was hard to hold back your grin whenever you saw him clench his jaw…
Tumblr media
Your phone rang, the sound echoing through your quiet room. You stretched out your arms, tired from typing on your laptop all night, and answered your phone.
‘Hi Adam,’ you spoke, having seen his name on the display.
‘Hey, y/n, how are you?’ he asked politely, his standard way of picking up the phone.
‘Good,’ you said with a yawn and a stretch, ‘Almost finished my homework for the weekend already.’
‘Good thinking,’ Adam said seriously. ‘You don’t wanna be studying while hungover.’
‘Hungover?’ you asked confused.
‘Yeah, cuz of the party?’ he said, sounding surprised. You slapped your hand on your forehead. The party! Of course! You had almost forgotten about it since Minho had pulled you away from Adam right in the middle of that conversation.
‘E-Exactly!’ you said quickly, trying to recover.
‘Right, anyway, that’s actually what I’m calling about,’ Adam said with a more serious tone in his voice.
‘What’s up?’ You asked, leaning back on your desk chair, listening.
‘I know we never really discussed how you were going to get to the party, and I would’ve offered to pick you up, but my car broke down again,’ he said, sounding grumpy. ‘It’s in the shop and I won’t be able to get it back ‘till next Wednesday,’ he growled.
‘Aw, man, that sucks,’ you said empathetically. ‘But don’t you worry about me, I’ll get one of my house-mates to drive me there.’
‘You sure? I could ask my sister to-,’ Adam began, but you cut him off.
‘Adam, I’m a grown woman, I’m sure I can figure something out,’ you chuckled.
‘Right,’ Adam laughed. ‘Just wanted to make sure my wing woman would be there, you know.’
‘Oh, I’ll be there,’ you assured him.
‘Alright then, I’ll text you the time and the address in a bit then, okay? See you tomorrow then!’ he said cheerfully.
‘See ya,’ you said, smiling, even though he couldn’t see you. The line beeped as Adam hung up and you stretched again. You were genuinely looking  forward to the party. It had been quite a while since you had been to one, and you wondered how college parties would differ from high school ones.
A knock on the door drew you from your thoughts.
‘Yea?’ you asked. The door opened a bit and you could see Minho’s face peaking around the corner. He was wearing one of your favorite outfits; a white oversized sleeveless shirt with a pair of oversized ripped jeans. His hair was messy and damp, a clear sign he had just come out of the shower. He looked so handsome like that.
‘Want some strawberries?’ he asked you, bringing up his hand. He was holding a small bowl of fresh strawberries in it.
‘No, thanks, I’m good,’ you said without thinking. You could see the disappointment in his eyes and regretted your words instantly.
He simply nodded, turned, and left your room.
You cursed yourself for not realizing his intentions immediately, and not saying or doing something sexy or witty. Of course, you wanted him too. But you wanted to tease him some more, make him beg for it like he made you before.
The door was still slightly ajar and you sighed, getting up out of your seat to go and close it. You had barely taken a step when you suddenly stopped. Through your mirror you had spotted Minho, standing in his own doorway, still holding the bowl of strawberries and staring through the crack of your door, clearly trying to decide whether he was going to go back in or not. By the angle of the mirror and the direction he was staring, you knew he couldn’t see you, or see that you had spotted him. A naughty idea crept up into your mind and you grinned cheekily to yourself.
You took another few steps, stopping before your bed, a position in which you were sure he could see you. You looked in the mirror and were happy to see him still standing there. His eyebrows had raised as soon as you had come into his view. You held back a grin, even though you were standing with your back to him. You stretched your arms once more and could see Minho taking a step towards your room again. Smiling to yourself, you grabbed the shoulders of your cardigan and let it slide down your arms. Through the mirror, you could see Minho freeze. He had seen you undress a thousand times before, but never had he reacted to it like this. Next, you grabbed the edge of your shirt and slowly raised it over your head, leaving you in your bra. Minho’s jaw clenched. Very slowly you started to unbutton your jeans and lower them down your hips even slower, exposing your pink satin panties. Minho’s eyes had become slightly lidded and he took another step forward.
Suddenly, loud footsteps and laughter startled both you and Minho, making him turn away from you as you quickly raised up your pants again.
‘Oh Lino,’ Seungmin’s voice sounded, somewhat surprised.
‘What?’ Minho said, his voice sounding furiously cold. Seungmin clicked his tongue and a single pair of footsteps left the hallway and went down the stairs. You could see Minho leaving for his room, shutting the door behind him with a loud bang.
Another pair of footsteps came down the hall and Han peeked through your door. As soon as he spotted you, standing there in nothing but your bra and jeans, the corner of his mouth lifted slightly. He looked over his shoulder at the closed door of Minho’s room before he entered yours and closed the door behind him as well.
‘Y/n,’ Han spoke your name softly, as he walked over to you. You could feel your cheeks flushing, knowing he caught you and feeling extremely embarrassed. He stopped in front of you, his hand going up to cup your face as his emerald-green eyes met yours. ‘You shouldn’t challenge him like this,’ Han spoke softly. His words were unexpected and you looked at him in surprise. Han smiled softly at you. ‘You have no idea how beautiful you are, do you? You have no idea what you do to us,’ he chuckled. You blinked a few times. ‘Don’t tease him like this,’ Han repeated shaking his head. Something defiant crept up inside of you, possibly ignited by your embarrassment.
‘Why not?’ you spoke stubbornly. ‘He’s had it coming, you know. He’s been a real twat to me lately, he deserves it,’ you argued. To your surprise, Han chuckled and shook his head. His thumb caressed your cheek as he looked at you oddly.
‘I’m telling you, stop now. Give him what he wants, what you want,’ he spoke softly, before bending close to you, his lips almost on your ear. ‘Trust me, you’ll regret it otherwise,’ he said, his words tickling the shell of your ear and sending shivers down your spine. Han let go of you, turned around, and left your room, closing the door behind him.
Your heart was beating loudly in your chest. Your knees felt weak. The space between your legs felt like it was on fire.
You knew Han’s warning should’ve scared you, but instead, all you could think about was Minho losing control…
You went to bed that night imagining Minho all over you and making you feel quite hot.
Tumblr media
The next morning you were rudely awoken from your lovely dream by some loud banging coming from downstairs.
Feeling irritated from being woken up like you had, especially from such a fine dream, you quickly put on a robe and went downstairs.
‘Are we moving?’ you asked sarcastically when you spotted all the boxes, newspapers, and bubble wrap in the living room. You could see Minho, Felix, Changbin, and Hyunjin picking up all sorts of items around the living room and packing them up hastily.
‘I wish they would,’ Seungmin’s annoyed and groggy morning voice sounded from behind you. You turned to see him sitting at the dining room table, coffee in his hand and messy hair clearly not yet combed. Apparently, he too had been woken up early by all the noise on his day off.
‘What’s going on?’ you asked him as you went to stand beside him.
‘Hyunjin has an art expo and for some reason, that means our living room needs to be redone,’ Seungmin spoke before sipping his coffee stiffly. You watched the boys pack and noticed that they were indeed packing up paintings, statues, and other art-like decorations.
‘I heard that,’ Hyunjin said, walking past, ducking just in time as Minho let a heavy-looking blue vase soar over his head. ‘Hey, watch where you’re flying that stuff,’ Hyunjin rounded on Minho.
‘It’s levitating not flying, but sorry,’ Minho grinned, not looking sorry at all.
‘Coming through!’ Felix called out, as he carried a large marble statue of a person past you, the one that they used as a clothing rack.
‘Make sure they don’t see you outside!’ Changbin called after him. Felix made a noise to indicate he understood.
Deciding there was not much for you to do, you decided to sit down next to Seungmin and watch the guys pack. About twenty minutes later, Jeongin arrived together with Han.
‘We’re back!’ both of them called out simultaneously.
‘Yeez, are you guys still not done?’ Han asked, watching Changbin struggle with the tape that kept sticking to his fingers.
‘Almost! Just a few more pieces,’ Hyunjin said, not looking up as he delicately wrapped a painting with bubble wrap.
‘I never really realized how much art we actually have in our living room,’ Jeongin said, looking around at the empty spots around the room. You could see Hyunjin smile as he taped off the corners of the bubble wrap. ‘Oh, also, I got the chocolate fudge you wanted for that client of your’s Hyung,’ Jeongin said, lifting the grocery bags in his hands.
‘Oh, thanks man,’ Hyunjin said, looking at him happily. It was clear the two had finally, and truly, made peace now.
As the four continued to pack, Jeongin and Han started to unload the groceries and cook breakfast. By the time the food was served, the boys were done and the living room looked empty.
The four guys were just about to sit down and dig in when Changbin’s pager rang. He grumbled angrily, gave you a pat on your head, and waved goodbye to the boys as he quickly ran off to whatever emergency the fire station needed him for.
‘Where’s Chan?’ you noted, the two empty seats at the table more noticeable now that the living room looked so soulless.
‘Didn’t come home last night,’ Jeongin said with his mouth full of rice. You instantly looked at Felix but he didn’t seem too concerned about it as he continued to gratefully eat his breakfast. You knew it wasn’t unusual for Chan not to come home from work now and then. But still, it always worried you.
As soon as his plate was empty, Hyunjin left as well, but not before thanking Felix and Minho gratefully and planting a quick kiss on your cheek before running out as well.
The afternoon was a lazy one. Jeongin and Minho played video games on the television while Han and Seungmin did some gardening on the balcony. Felix went together with you to the basement to do the laundry and together you chatted about this and that. He didn’t say anything about your powers or Chan’s warning and it seemed like he trusted you to not try that again.
Tumblr media
After dinner, it was time for you to go upstairs and ready yourself for Adam’s party. You had a hard time finding the right outfit, but eventually decided on a basic little black dress with knee-high boots.
By the time you re-entered the living room, there was only one person left. Minho was sitting on the couch, watching a show on tv. He looked up when you came in. A muscle in his jaw tensed when he saw you, and you could see his eyes scanning you from top to bottom.
‘What are you wearing?’ he asked, his voice back to that cold, arrogant, and judgemental tone. You thought that after the moment when he defended you against Chan, the two of you were good again. But apparently, you thought wrong. Why did he have to be like this? Why did he always manage to poke you where it annoyed you the most? You balled your fist.
‘My party outfit,’ you said coolly.
‘Your what?’ he repeated, raising a handsome brow. You ignored his question and scanned the room again as if you were hoping any of the other guys were hiding somewhere you hadn’t spotted yet.
‘Where’s Felix?’ you asked, not looking at Minho.
‘Out for emergency surgery,’ Minho answered back instantly.
‘Hyunjin?’ you asked.
‘Not back yet,’ Minho answered shortly. ‘Nor Chan or Changbin,’ he added. Not that you would ever ask either of those overprotective men to drive you to a college party anyway.
‘Han? Or Seungmin?’ you asked, your eyes darting back at Minho, who wasn’t looking at you, but was back to watching his tv program. He simply shrugged.
A door opened and closed and Jeongin came walking into the room, wearing his bartender’s uniform.
‘Innie!’ you said jumping at him, happy to see someone else was still here. He looked surprised but pleased with your enthusiastic greeting. ‘Innie,’ you said in a whiny voice, grabbing his arm and batting your eyelashes at him, ‘can you pretty please drive me to my friend’s party?’ You pouted like a child asking a parent to buy them a new expensive toy.
‘Oh,’ Jeongin’s face fell, ‘I’m sorry princess but I can’t. I’m already late and I really don’t want to get fired,’ he said, his face painfully apologetic.
‘Oh, that’s alright,’ you said, your voice letting out far more disappointment than you had wanted to, and letting go of his arm.
‘I’m sorry princess, I’ll make it up to you, okay?’ he said, sadly smiling at you. You nodded at him and he quickly kissed you on the forehead before rushing off.
You heard the sound of the door closing behind him, echoing through the room.
There was no other choice. It was either a taxi, which you didn’t really have the money for, or Minho. You tightened your jaw, turning around and looking at Minho, who was still watching tv, but now with a little smirk on his face.
‘Lino,’ you began, trying to sound sweet, but sounding more like you had a toothache. ‘Could you please maybe drop me off at the party?’
Minho didn’t respond but stared at the television. You waited, trying to search his face for a clue but finding nothing. It felt like an eternity and he didn’t budge.
Just when you were at your limit and felt like yelling at him for ignoring you and stomping away, he suddenly got up.
‘Come on then,’ he said, his voice soft and low, and his eyes not meeting yours. Surprised, but happy, you followed him silently as he put on his coat and led you to the car.
You quickly put your phone in the holder of the car, putting on the navigation to the address Adam had sent you. It was further away than you had expected it to be, so you were happy you weren’t forced to call a cab.
After minutes of a silent drive, where neither of you looked at the other, you softly mumbled, ‘Thank you,’ at Minho. He didn’t respond for a moment, waiting in front of a red light.
‘Why do you want to go to this party anyway?’ he asked out of nowhere.
‘What?’ you said surprised, not expecting a question like that.
‘Why are you going to this party?’ he repeated.
‘Erm, 'cause it’s fun?’ you answered him back, feeling dumbfounded by his odd question. You stared at him incredulously, but he didn’t say anything for a while. You folded your arms and stared out the window for a few minutes.
‘Will he be there?’ Minho asked suddenly. You looked over at him. He still wasn’t looking at you, his eyes fixed on the road.
‘Who?’ You asked, knowing very well who he had meant, but playing dumb just to annoy him as much as he did you.
‘You know, that guy,’ Minho said somewhat annoyed.
‘I know a lot of guys, please elaborate,’ you said stiffly.
‘The western guy, the guy you hang out with at school, the one with the scar,’ Minho said truly annoyed now.
‘Oh, you mean Adam,’ you said, knowing very well Minho knew his name. Minho grunted, and you took your time to answer.
‘Yes, Adam will be there too,’ you spoke. Minho didn’t react and you looked away from him again, watching the streetlights pass by and feeling fed up with everything.
‘He likes you,’ Minho said suddenly after a long silence. It wasn’t a question.
‘He used to,’ you bit back, not looking at Minho, but seeing your pouting reflection in the mirror.
‘Sure,’ Minho grumbled, sounding obviously insincere. You rolled your eyes and it was silent for a while again.
‘You care for him?’ Minho asked abruptly, surprising you once more. You huffed and looked over at him.
‘Yeah of course I do,’ you said feeling insulted. Minho’s jaw clenched and the knuckles of his hands went white around the steering wheel.
‘I thought you only cared for us,’ he spoke, almost accusingly.
‘Excuse me?’ you said, barely able to believe what you were hearing. ‘I-What? I mean, come on-well,’ you stammered incredulously. ‘You guys don’t own me, you know!?’ you huffed angrily.
The car stopped abruptly and the seatbelt cut hard into your chest.
‘You have arrived at your destination,’ the cool woman's voice of the navigation app sounded through your phone. For a moment you looked furiously at Minho, wanting to start an argument with the man who still wasn’t looking at you. Then, in a split second, you decided you had had enough, opening the door and jumping out of the car angrily. You were just turning around to smash the door closed when your eyes met Minho’s.
‘No, you own us,’ he said softly. The door slipped out of your hand and fell shut. The engine roared and the car drove off into the night.
The look on his face seemed to be imprinted into your mind. The same look he adorned so often lately. One of adoration, longing, and pain.

I'm 100% stealing this from @pagegirlintraining
AO3 wrapped (writer’s edition)
I had a long year, so I didn't get to write as much as I would have liked to, but we still got a ton done.
1. How many words have you written this year? 180,453 words.
2. How many works did you publish this year? Somehow the answer is eleven.
3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)? Reckless Abandon. Hands down. It took so much time to plan and so much energy to write and I am so proud of it. I'm writing the ending of the first draft right now and I'm sad to leave it behind.
HOWEVER I also very much enjoyed The Last Time, which is my Nilcent fic. I think just in terms of quality, this is one of my most beautifully written fics.
4. What work of yours has the most hits? The fics I have with the most hits is Reckless Abandon, but I think that's because it's the only one from this year that had more than one chapter.
5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected? Dress Up As ! I wrote that in like 30 minutes while half asleep and then didn't edit it, so I didn't think anyone would read it at all lol. It's not my most popular fic by any means, but more people read it than I thought would.
6. Favorite title you used? Wilhelm's Frog Addiction because it's so ridiculous. It implies that Wilhelm needs a rehab for frogs, and I think that's great.
7. If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most? I used the title of The Last Time from a Taylor Swift song, but I think that was the only one.
8. Pairing you wrote the most for this year? Wilhelm/Simon Eriksson with 9 out of 11 fics being about them or containing them in some way. (damn thats an unfortunate statistic)
9. Favorite pairing you wrote for this year? Obviously Wilmon. I feel like that's a given at this point.
10. What work was the quickest to write? Dress Up As... again, I wrote it in 30 minutes while half asleep💀
11. What work took you the longest to write? If we rule out the one that's multi-chapter for fairness sake, then the fic that took me the longest to write was probably Not Entirely Screwed (But Almost). But take that with a grain of salt.
12. How many WIPs do you have in your docs for next year? Two or three that I actually plan on finishing. I have others that are started, but I don't know if I have enough plot to actually get through them.
13. What’s your longest work of the year? Reckless Abandon, containing 123k of my 180k words this year 💀
14. What’s your shortest work of the year? A Fool Proof Guide - 507 words.
15. What WIP are you taking into next year with you? Finishing Reckless Abandon! One chapter to edit and an epilogue to finish writing, and then it's done. I just can't finish it in the two days I have left of the year 😭
16. What’s your most common “Additional Tags” tag? Simon Eriksson Loves Wilhelm, followed by Wilhelm Loves Simon Eriksson
17. Your favorite character to write this year? I simply cannot answer this. My mind has been so consumed with Reckless Abandon and the switching POVs that I literally cannot choose one.
18. What’s one pairing you want to explore next year? I think I might like to write more of Felice's platonic pairings next year. I feel like I neglect her because I don't really ship her with anyone.
19. Which work of yours have you reread the most? The Thing In The Mirror. It's kind of a love letter to my grief, so sometimes I go back and read it when I'm feeling down.
20. How many kudos in total did you get this year? 2,754
21. Which work has the most comments? Reckless Abandon, but again, it's the only one with more than one chapter so that makes sense.
22. Did you do any collaborative works this year? Not this year! Maybe next year. Dani and I don't write "together" per se, but we do bounce a lot of ideas off each other, so if that counts then yes, but nothing plotted and written and posted together.
23. Did you write any gifts this year? I did! I wrote for YR Week, which wasn't a gift, but an event. And I wrote a Christmas gift for Nic!
24. Did you receive any gifts this year? Yes yes yes! A beautiful, perfect Christmas gift from @pagegirlintraining I enjoyed every word of it.
25. What’s your most common category? M/M
26. What do you listen to while writing? Not much, actually. I have the Reckless Abandon Playlist, but I only really used that when outlining.
27. Favorite work you wrote this year? For the sake of not repeating myself, out off the ones I haven't mentioned yet, Isn't That Your Thing? and Patience Is A Virtue are my favorite little crack fics.
28. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year? Oh jesus, that's impossible. I don't think I can choose just one. I can give you one that makes me think "holy shit I can write" though:
This piece of work — the one staring Stella in the face — was a revolution made of oil paint.
29. Biggest surprise while writing this year? I can write smut. And people don't hate it somehow.
Thank y'all for a fun year. Can't wait to see what my brain does to torture us all in the next one.

AO3 wrapped (writer’s edition)
Well, this was a lovely way to close out the year. Here goes:
1. How many words have you written this year?
An unbelievable 331,924 👀
2. How many works did you publish this year?
12 in total. 6 are oneshots, and of the rest I’ve finished 4.
3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?
I’m extremely proud of Oh, Those Summer Nights. The dialogue in this one flows so beautifully, I love the way I got to incorporate some of my favorite places in Stockholm, and it just altogether has this magical atmosphere about it.
But also, for entirely different reasons, Vi har bara varandra, det är allt vi behöver. Because I wrote a freaking story in Swedish, what even?!
4. What work of yours has the most hits?
Overall it’s Dancing Through Life with a little over 22k, but considering we didn’t start publishing The Prince And The Popstar until August this year, the 16k on that one feel worth mentioning. On a chapter basis they’re also very close to one another.
5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?
The Prince And The Popstar. For sure. That one blew both of us away I think.
6. Favorite title you used?
Both One, two, three, four, five, sex on my mind and Stop the world (I wanna get off with you) fit so nicely with what the respective stories are about.
7. If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most?
I haven’t actually checked, but it’s probably Sabrina Carpenter from Prince and Popstar alone 😂
8. Pairing you wrote the most for this year?
Wilmon. They’re also the only pairing I wrote for.
9. Favorite pairing you wrote for this year?
Same answer as 8.
10. What work was the quickest to write?
Copy and Pasta went from a batshit idea to a fully-written thing within 4 hours, that’s got to be a personal record.
11. What work took you the longest to write?
The writing process of Prince and Popstar was very spread out because both @the-amber-fox and I had lots of life stuff happen in between. All in all it took us 4 months to even have enough to start posting, and then another 3 to finish it.
12. How many WIPs do you have in your docs for next year?
I have two new ones I firmly plan on writing, and one idea I’m not so sure about yet. Also two I plan on finishing next year.
13. What’s your longest work of the year?
Based on the amounts of them that were written this year, it’s The Prince And The Popstar. Then again I only wrote about half of that, so it may also be The Time Of My Life with 45501 words and counting.
14. What’s your shortest work of the year?
Vi har bara varandra, det är allt vi behöver (714 words) for obvious reasons 😂
15. What WIP are you taking into next year with you?
Dancing through life (don’t look at me, I swear I will get myself to finish that epilogue at some point🙈), The Time Of My Life and Killing me softly (with his song), which still hasn’t gotten a second chapter yet but is very much not abandoned.
16. What’s your most common “Additional Tags” tag?
Alternate Universe. Who else is not surprised?
17. Your favorite character to write this year?
I swear, the answer to this changes every time I think about it. For now I’ll go with my Dirty Dancing AU version of Simon, because he’s somehow the version that feels closest to canon Simon even though plot wise the story is the farthest from canon. That’s a nice mental stretch to keep up.
18. What’s one pairing you want to explore next year?
Can you hear me laughing? It’s Wilmon all the way.
19. Which work of yours have you reread the most?
It’s probably a tie between Copy and Pasta (short, sweet, always cheers me up) and the already existing parts of The Time Of My Life (it’s two of my favorite things combined, has my favorite version of Wille I’ve written and some beautiful Wilmon moments I really like revisiting).
20. How many kudos in total did you get this year?
4448.
21. Which work has the most comments?
Per chapter it’s The Prince And The Popstar.
22. Did you do any collaborative works this year?
Yessss 😍 I realized the other day that I’ve written four complete works with my darling @the-amber-fox this year and could not believe it. They’ve been some of my faves to write, and that’s hugely thanks to her, so thanks 💜
I also got to write the first chapter of Killing me softly with the amazing @ishotforthestars . Mayyyyybe we’ll get back to that one for a special occasion…😁
23. Did you write any gifts this year?
I sure did. Got to cowrite two birthday presents, for and with @the-amber-fox and @ishotforthestars respectively. Then another birthday present for @omaremioo and a Christmas present for @zee-has-commitment-issues .
24. Did you receive any gifts this year?
Yes again. Got a lovely birthday gift and the very best Christmas gift this year (Thanks, Foxy, and thanks times two, Elin 😂🫶🏼)
25. What’s your most common category?
M/M unsurprisingly.
26. What do you listen to while writing?
When I do it’s either my ever-growing annual playlist or the cheesiest 80s ballads for intimacy scenes.
27. Favorite work you wrote this year?
I think I’ve had the most fun with Prince and Popstar, but the most moments of giddy pride with The Time Of My Life. That’s all I can say for this one.
28. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
I can’t possibly choose a favorite, mostly because I’d have to reread all of them and I don’t have a whole week off to do it😄 so I’ll go with something that, while pretty simple, resonated with me a lot when I reread it: “Just because that’s what he expects doesn’t mean it’s what you need to give him, Simon.”
29. Biggest surprise while writing this year?
Learning that despite what I’d been told before, I seem to have a knack for comedic writing.

Do all the ones you haven't gotten yet 😂🥰❤️ ilysm
OMG YOU BRAT
1. Which of your fics would you keep the basic plot of but rewrite completely? Um, probably my Linstead multi-chapter (I think you're familiar hahahaha), mostly because I had no plan in place and it became a total mess. So I guess I would rewrite it by... not writing it at all? Oh! But seriously I kind of wish I could go back and re-write this one. It was my first foray into writing for Chenford, and I've been thinking about a bunch lately for some reason (I think because it's vaguely related to another idea I have). I wish I'd kept it entirely canon compliant.
3. How would you describe your writing style? Lately? Nonexistent.
4. Do you have any OCs? Do you have a story for them? Original characters are TERRIFYING to me. There's a reason I write fanfic and not original fiction, coming up with characters (especially well-rounded, relatable ones that people like) feels impossible. So I just... don't. (To the point that I researched the names of every single referenced member of Metro so I could use actual character names and not make any up. I have the list if anyone's interested 😜)
5. What's a tag you never want to use for your works even when it applies? I find this question confusing. I never want to use MCD, but it shouldn't ever apply since I have no intention to write it. What a cop out of an answer, but I don't understanddddd. OH! I sometimes wish I could exclude relevant tags for the surprise factor.
6. What's your ratio for rating your works? What does this mean? Oh wait, I think it means in terms of T vs M vs E? Sex brings it to M, and porn is E?
7. Your favourite ao3 tag. Lately? Established relationship or missing moment.
8. How slow is a slow burn? So slow that they spend most of the story dancing around their feelings and only get together near the very end.
12. If you write in more than one language, what's the difference? Strictly English over here.
13. Rate your worldbuilding skills from 1 to 10. Uh... 1 or 2? Because I don't build worlds, I play in existing ones created by the show?
16. Are one-shots really underrated? Wait are they underrated??? WHY?? I LOVE a one-shot. Whether it's 500, 2000, or 10K words, I love being able to sit down and enjoy and fully fleshed out story from start to finish.
17. Past or present tense? Why? I used to write in past tense, but I think reading more present tense influenced me to do the same, and now I prefer present.
19. Share a snippet from a wip without giving any context for it.
“No!” she practically shouts at him. She takes a moment to school herself, exhaling slowly. “I mean, Tim, I say this with love, but if you don’t give me some fucking space, I will kill you.”
20. Do you work on a single project or many at the same time? How does that work for you? Many. Though it usually bites me in the ass because I end up stuck on something, and then something else, etc. So clearly it doesn't work all that well. But I think (unless I was on a total roll, which sometimes happens) I'd be stifled if I focused on only one thing. Plus ideas tend to multiply.
21. Can you accurately predict how long your fics are going to be? If you can, what's your secret? No, not really. I don't typically write anything super long though.
22. What is it about watching the same two idiots falling in love over and over again? I DON'T KNOW BUT I LOVE MY IDIOTS!!!!
24. Thoughts on flashbacks/flashforwards. Not really a fan, especially if they're super long. A couple of lines here or there are a-okay with me, but when you're italicizing half a chapter? Pass.
25. Is writing the whole thing beforehand better or worse than writing it as you go? As in, with a multi-chapter? I clearly suck at that, so I think I'd only ever do another if I wrote the whole thing in advance (or at least had a VERY clear plan in place)
27. Do you agree that one shouldn't start a story with a piece of dialogue? Nope, strongly disagree. Sometimes it just works to jump right in without preamble.
28. Any writing advice that works for you and you feel like sharing? Not really, but I'll take any advice you want to throw at me, because I am soooooo stuck.
30. Describe a fic that almost happened, but then it didn't. Well right now, every single one. Because I CAN'T WRITE 😩. Oh, but my Contractor Jay fic counts I guess? *Sigh* 10K words of nothing. IT HAUNTS ME
32. Do you have a word/expression that you always use in your writing? Fuck. And murmur. I looooove murmur, it's my favourite.
33. Give your writing a compliment. 😩 I... can... idk dude, I can't right now. How do you compliment something that doesn't exist?!?!?!? I'm going with my fallback -- I'm decent(ish) with words themselves, but ideas are my struggle.
34. Do you write to improve? Or is that not a concern for you? Do I sound like an ass if I say no? 😬 I write as a creative outlet, that's all.
35. Thoughts on writing challenges/contests. Contests, no thanks, I don't like the idea of pitting writers against each other (assuming that's what that means???). I'm all about celebrating other writers. Challenges, like #chenfordweek? YES, I wrote more that week that I had in ages, I apparently do well when there's a fire under my ass.
36. How do you come up with fic titles? What's the one you're most proud of? I ask you? 😅 And when I try by myself, I follow your lead of Taylor Swift lyrics. Fave of the ones I've managed to do on my own? I like this one best I think?
38. "This never happened" fix-it fics or "this happened but" fix-it fics?
Tumblr media
As long as you fix it, I'm happy! (Yes Suz, I mean you specifically here)
39. Wildest AU scenario you have written? I've only written one, so I guess that's it -- paging Dr. Jay Halstead. I don't think any of the AU ideas I've played around with are particularly wild.
40. Write a 9-word fic. What the fuck is this question?!!? Tim Bradford loves Lucy Chen forever and ever. Amen. Nine words does not a fic make.
Thanks-ish, I love you and I hate you for this 💖

AO3 wrapped [writers edition]
always nice to close out the year talking about writing, so here are my responses for 2023:
How many words have you written this year?
163073
2. How many works did you publish this year?
three one-shots (hetero of the year, en garde, and lovely figurines), the last few chapters of like because, love despite, and the first five chapters of the road is made by walking.
3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?
i really did love writing (and still love) hetero of the year. thankfully, the kudos/hits do align with that, so i guess it's not just me. :)
4. What work of yours has the most hits?
on a per-chapter basis, hetero of the year with 7178 for a one-shot.
5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?
i was kinda down on like because, love despite at the beginning because it wasn't getting much traction, but in later chapters and especially once finished, engagement picked up a lot.
6. Favorite title you used
i rather liked like because, love despite. i felt it linked with the original movie closely enough but without being too similar and with a different angle to the original title.
7. If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most?
lovely figurines (still speak to me today) is the only title pulled from song lyrics, so i guess suzanne vega? the road is made by walking is pulled from an antonio machado poem that has been adapted INTO song, but i don't think that counts.
8. Pairing you wrote the most for this year?
i haven't written about anything but wilmon since 2021, dude. xD
9. Favorite pairing you wrote for this year?
see previous answer.
10. What work was the quickest to write?
hetero of the year wrote itself SHOCKINGLY fast for a 21K-word behemoth of a one-shot.
11. What work took you the longest to write?
like because, love despite took nearly a year to complete. about a month-ish per chapter, when you think about it that way.
12. How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year?
i only work on one fic at a time, so i don't have WIPs other than the one i'm currently posting (the road is made by walking). i've got 31 ideas in various levels of detail in my "fic ideas" folder, though.
13. What’s your longest work of the year?
like because, love despite is nearly 100K words.
14. What’s your shortest work of the year?
en garde clocked in at 3241 words.
15. What WIP are you taking into next year with you?
the road is made by walking, as mentioned above.
16. What’s your most common “Additional Tags” tag?
"romance." because of course.
17. Your favorite character to write this year?
this year marked a bit of a turn on my level of comfort writing simon. all three of my one-shots were actually from his PoV, and both chaptered fics alternate between his and wille's PoVs. not that i didn't write from simon's PoV before, but last year i still felt a bit apprehensive whenever i did; i've historically felt a bit too close to simon to feel comfortable writing him-- he's the character i identify with the most and that often makes me nervous that i'm writing myself into my stories rather than writing the character. i didn't really feel nervous about it this year. i guess practice makes… not perfect, but easier.
18. The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?
i had to write more august this year than i've had to in the past, and i'm still cringing about it.
19. What’s one pairing you want to explore next year?
bish, please. xD in this house, it's wilmon or bust.
20. Which work of yours have you reread the most?
i've reread hetero of the year more times than i can count. it just puts a smile on my face, what can i say?
21. How many kudos in total did you get this year?
1357
22. Which work has the most comments?
again on a per-chapter basis, hetero of the year with 67 comment threads on its only chapter.
23. Did you do any collaborative works this year?
not this year, no. :(
24. Did you write any gifts this year?
two! en garde for @the-amber-fox and lovely figurines for tui.
25. Did you receive any gifts this year?
one! the talented miss @the-amber-fox wrote love is everything, stupid as my birthday present. <3
26. What’s your most common category?
M/M. because of course.
27. What do you listen to while writing?
the TV? sometimes it's the news, sometimes it's just youtube videos, but i usually work/study/write with the TV on.
28. Favorite work you wrote this year?
i feel like this is the same as question 3, idk. same answer.
29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
i really loved the big argument at the end of chapter 9 of like because, love despite. i was really, really proud of how that scene came out.
30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?
it's not much a writing surprise as it is a reading surprise, i guess? but i didn't know so many people out there wait until a fic is completed to start reading it. i'm very much a read-as-i-go girl as long as i have assurances that the fic will not end tragically (always tag your angst with a happy ending, folks! don't alienate potential readers just by forgetting the tag!). but it seems a good chunk of the fandom doesn't start reading anything unless they know it's complete. and i totally get why, truly, but it just hadn't ever really occurred to me to do that, lol. xD

Chapter 24: Breezeblocks // He bruises, coughs, he splutters pistol shots Chapter One | Chapter Two | Chapter 3 | Chapter 4 | Chapter 5 | Chapter 6 | Chapter 7 | Chapter 8 | Chapter 9 | Chapter 10 | Chapter 11 | Chapter 12 | Chapter 13 | Chapter 14 | Chapter 15 | Chapter 16 | Chapter 17 | Chapter 18 | Chapter 19 | Chapter 20 | Chapter 21 | Chapter 22 | Chapter 23 | Read on A03 Ship: Receit Warnings for the whole fic: Drug use, sexual content, sex under the influence of alcohol, alcoholism, implied/referenced suicide attempts, sexual trauma, sex addiction, self-worthlessness. Plot: Remus is running from a history he doesn’t want to face, Janus is escaping guilt that he doesn’t have to bear. When the two meet under the most unlikely of circumstances, Janus finds himself in a whirlwind of a life that gets stranger by the second. As he starts to uncover more about Remus’, and his brother Roman’s, history, Janus finds himself in a much harder situation than he’d thought he’d be in. Can he stop his past repeating itself? Or will he have to carry the weight of living alone once again? Chapter Summary: Remus' emotions have an unsteady sort of day. --
His first day of his classes were only a little exhausting. He'd at least had the sense to wear something comfortable, loose clothing. It made him feel less displaced in the bustling halls of a college, unnoticeable. For once, he was quite content not being the centre of attention. Instead, he sat quietly at the back of class, bewildered how different from school it all felt. People chattered and relaxed throughout the day. Remus, nervous to admit he felt out of his depth, huddled in a corner with his notebook, sketching outlines and writing notes in one long, pictographic flow.
But overall, it wasn't a bad day. It was surprisingly uneventful, which he supposes he should be happy for.
When he recounts the day to Janus, he explains that the course content is surprisingly easy - that he might even do well, here. He'd had to let his course tutor know about his reading struggles, but as it turned out, it was a surprisingly common experience. "Apparently not being able to read right doesn't mean I won't do well," he'd chattered excitedly, flittering around the kitchen aimlessly. Janus watched him with distant amusement, sipping a cup of tea that Remus had all but abandoned in his excitable frenzy.
"I could've told you that for free."
"Oh...shut up."
Janus smiled, shaking his head as Remus finally came to a halt. He shouldn't have looked as extravagant as he did to the other man, wearing a hoodie that he's half-sure is Roman's, and a pair of black jeans. He did, though, his dark hair curling around his ears and a lively flush to his cheeks. His happiness brightened him in a way, his excitement painting a sheen over him far more beautiful than any amount of makeup could ever attest to. There was something so effortlessly alluring about him as he stared down with that smile of his.
“My smart, academic boyfriend," he uttered in the quiet, his reverence barely concealed. Remus blushed, but feigned annoyance with a roll of his eyes and a scoff.
"Don't get your hopes up."
"You can't stop me!" And this much was true. “I thought you might be a little tired when you get back, so, I figured we'd order in, my treat for your first day."
"I love you."
"Me? Or my wallet?"
"It's a package deal," his voice lifted into a teasing sing-song, spinning around excitedly on the spot. "Pizza!" His hands fluttered with the bout of emotion that ran through him, "...first day of college, and pizza!" Janus only watched with amusement, finishing off the remnants of the cup of coffee in front of him, as Remus began to dissolve into a list of all the things that made him happy. "-Did you know I fed a squirrel today? It just stood there looking at me, and I'm like-" Where had all this joy been hiding? All this excitement? Who in their right mind would have ever deprived this from him? "-but it does not go away, and I'm like here, have some granola, I guess?"
"Squirrel friend on your first day, I'm so proud of you."
"I'm thinking one day I can get all the squirrels to trust me, and raise a squirrel army if I ever have trouble."
"Smart plan."
"I know, right?"
He set about ordering pizza on the phone when Remus' chatter died down. His tiredness began to show through, slowly. The realisation that he would have to go back and do it all again tomorrow clearly started to settle in. There was a flutter of pre-emptive exhaustion at the thought, and he found himself unwilling to move from where he sat on his bed. Paralysed by an onslaught of tiredness, he stared at the fibres of the floor and wondered, distantly, if he was well enough for this.
"I ordered the pizza," Remus looked up to Janus. He hadn't even heard him come up the stairs, but he stood there with a frown as he saw the other man unmoved on the bed. "Are you okay?"
"Tired."
"Yeah, it's like that at first," Janus sat beside him, frowning. "Even I was like that when I first started working, routine changes can be difficult for anyone, the best you can do is keep at it and do what you can to make it easier."
"Anyone?"
"Yeah, I mean, I went from a good three months of not moving to a 9 to 5 job, the first month all I did was sleep when I got back." Remus sighed with some quiet relief. "It's not the difficulty, really, it's just getting used to it, bearing with the uncomfortable until it's familiar."
Remus nodded, resting his head against his partner's shoulder, before nuzzling at his neck. Janus shivered beside him, and Remus felt the way his breath caught in his throat against his own lips, where Janus' heartbeat also fluttered.
"I love you," Remus muttered.
"Pizza's on its way," Janus replied, voice suddenly hoarse and strained. The other man could do nothing other than grin, the heat of Janus' flustered response warm to the touch.
"We've got at least an hour," his hand rested on Janus' spine, where a shiver trembled through him, pressing his body into the touch without so much as a conscious thought. "That's some time to kill."
"Re-"
"Please."
"No." Remus stopped. He looked up at his lover with poorly concealed hurt, his eyebrows pulled into such a pointed frown that Janus could only assume he'd just punched him in the gut. "I'm not rejecting you, Re," he uttered, sighing, "...If we're going to do this, we're going to talk about it first."
"Talk about what?"
"About how you're feeling! About how I'm feeling! But not on a time limit and not on a whim, because I don't want that." Remus' frown deepened, trying to grasp an idea of why Janus felt the need in the first place. "I'm not comfortable doing anything that could possibly hurt you, Re, I won't do it if I think for a second it will, it's not fuckin' worth it."
"Why are you uncomfortable? I was the one that was raped." Janus flinched at the curtness.
"Because I care about you, what the fuck else do you think?"
"I should get to decide what I do!" The quick rage that seemed to fly through him was abrupt and uncontrollable. He forgot on some instinct how to curb the fire as it lit in his throat and poured out of him. At the moment, he couldn't have ascertained where it came from, why he suddenly felt helpless and furious.
"You should! But this isn't just your choice!" Whilst Janus simply felt hurt. His voice shook with a more managed anger, measured and weathered to something close to sadness; the raised voice hadn't scared him, but it did wound in one way or another. He hated to upset Remus, even more so when he felt it was a perfectly reasonable request. It would take another few minutes of back and forth and raising voices and the inevitable slam of the door as Remus - now angered beyond anything that made sense - left his own room and stormed downstairs. A few seconds for Janus to catch his breath before he would offer himself an explanation that made enough sense for him to flop back on the bed and groan dejectedly.
The silence in the house consumed them both as they waited and waited. Neither ready to face the other - for shame, or heartache, or just plain sorrow - so they remained apart, until the doorbell rang, and the pizza was there. Janus let the pizza go cold for half an hour before he swallowed his pride and returned to the other man. Remus had hardly touched the pizza, peeling sweetcorn off of the surface and dropping it into the cardboard box.
"I wasn't trying to control you," Janus muttered, "...I know, I figured...afterwards that was probably why you were so angry, I wasn't trying to control what you do with your body, and I'm not making decisions for you - but I am making them for me, Re, I couldn't live with myself knowing I hurt you." He sat down in silence and picked at the abandoned sweetcorn, eating it and wincing at the cold grease and rubbery cheese.
"I don't know why I - I just got so angry."
Janus nodded. "I think, maybe, because you don't want to feel like anyone has any input over you, and that's fine, that's normal, and that's good, but when it involves both of us..."
"Yeah," Remus nodded, "...yeah, I get you." His eyes were shining with tears. He stared down at the mangled and uneaten pizza so hard that Janus wondered if the thing might burst into flames from concentration alone. He slid closer to the other man and offered him an arm. Remus sank against his shoulder and shook with the exhaustion of his own feelings. The anger, residual from the pain he'd suffered for too long, the fear that remained ever present beyond his conscious thought, the shame of existing with all these overwhelming feelings.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
"Let's try and keep a lid on it, for a bit, yeah, I don't want to ruin a good day." Remus nodded wearily, pressing a kiss to Janus' shoulder, the best apology he had the energy to give.

Fanfiction 1-2-3
I wrote some more.
I have a guilty pleasure read (one of so, so many). In this case it's Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter books. I recommend them if you like urban fantasy heteroromance with a touch of smut. They are fun, they are quick, and within the constraints of working for one of the big publishers, she tells a fantastic story. They've got the usual problems of heteroromance, but I don't read them expecting to solve the problems of the world. They pass a night well enough, and that's all I ask.
This is fanfiction for that world because there's always been one glaring problem with the world she created, and it's always jarred me, violently, every time it comes up in the books. There's a little under 30 chapters, it's already finished, and it will be going up here, on Pillowfort, Ko-fi and Ao3. Ao3 might actually get it faster than everyone else. Pillowfort will get it slower, simply because they don't have a queue and me remembering to post things is always dicey. Updates should come once a week.
Well, here we go, I guess. Please remember that reblogs give me life. The main tag is #Alyss and Jean.

Alyss had never meant to be anyone important.
Angels, he understood, were the top creatures of the world. They were born to that privilege, they lived in that privilege. It never left their lives. No matter how low an angel might fall, and some did fall very low, they were still apex predators, apex lifeforms. A very, very old vampire might best a very young angel, but why would they risk the terrible destruction that would fall upon them if they did?
But there was wiggle room in that definition, in what was expected of an angel. And for most of his relatively short life Alyss had been of a very firm mind: he was going to be an accountant. This was not the sort of thing he told anyone. Humans were accountants. Vampires were accountants. Angels had other people do their accounting for them. And in truth, he'd learned many other skills throughout his few centuries: he was an excellent illuminator, a passable translator of multiple languages. If it had to do with books, he was good at it. If it had to do with numbers he was even better. But he didn't want to be an illuminator. He didn't want to be an archivist, or a librarian, or a historian.
He wanted. to be. an accountant.
On his second century, after the last of his teachers had given up on him in some specific fields, he'd left the Refuge and finally been allowed to openly do what he'd wanted to do all along. He'd found work in many angelic households and businesses; none that wanted him there permanently, but that was fun in its own way. He got to see so many new places, mingle with so many different people, meet so many of his kind, see how they lived, how they ruled.
Within a few years he was horrified.
Alyss understood, in theory, the process by which vampires were Made and trained. He'd never personally met any; in the Refuge they were distant satellites orbiting around the angels, or Archangels, they served. Until he'd left the Refuge the reality of vampires had been little but writing on a book: the meticulous scheduling needed to remove the build-up of toxins in an angel's body, the complex rules and regulations by which those humans who wished to undergo the vampiric awakening were measured. Hundreds of thousands applied every year. Most were turned away, found wanting or incompatible, though they were never told of the later. In exchange for the many gifts that came with becoming a vampire, they agreed to a hundred years of service to the angel whose choice gave them the chance to be Made. That century was meant to turn a feral creature into a self-willed predator, ruthlessly in control of their new instincts. It was a time for their angel to teach them what they were, who they'd become. To guide them and yes, if need be, to make them fear the ultimate authority of those who had created them, and could destroy them if they did not learn.
Alyss had seen no such teaching. He'd seen torture, lots of that. He'd seen cruelty beyond anything he'd ever imagined, for no reason other than an angel's entertainment. He'd seen the most stalwart hearts shattered, the strongest wills broken. He'd seen new vampires refused the kindness of going through their initial awakening in a medically induced coma, simply because their angel wanted to see them writhe. In Isabel's court he'd seen the angel wake a vampire from such a coma just because she wanted to hear them wail in incomprehending terror while she entertained some close friends for dinner. And that was just for starters; one hundred years was a long time to find out what harm you could do to a person to while the hours away.
It wasn't entirely unfounded, Alyss understood that. After the Cascade, when both the number of angels and archangels had beeen catastrophically low, the vampiric population had risen on a tide of mindless bloodlust. The Guild existed to hunt vampires who ran away from their contract for a good reason: too many vampires, well, ran away from their contract. And in theory the VPA was supposed to advocate for vampires, particularly those most vulnerable.
But after what he'd witnessed Alyss had begun to wonder if some of those vampires didn't run away for a good reason. He saw so much of the bad over the next century that the good seemed distant, faint, and eventually unlikely. It became shocking to him whenever he found an angelic home where the trainees were treated well.
In one of those houses he met Jean. And things kind of spiraled from there.
2
Alyss flew through the early morning light, deeply enjoying the chilly breeze coming from the sea, the sight of New England beneath him a vast landscape cloaked in every color of autumn imaginable. If he'd not been en route to a meet-n-greet he would have gone down just for the guilty pleasure of walking among the trees and kicking up clouds of gold, red and orange leaves.
But he was due at Kliman's house within the hour, and while the breeze was lovely it was also a headwind. He put his head down and pressed himself to further speed. Better to arrive on time and a little breathless than late.
The aerial picture he'd been sent of the estate didn't do it justice. Kliman oversaw New England from Maine but she was a reclusive, elderly angel; her agents did most of the legwork while she remained hidden away in a hundred acres of marsh and woodlands. The house was beautiful, a jewel nestled among wild-seeming gardens. There was a pond shaped like a crescent moon on one side of the manor, gleaming in the sunlight like silver. The autumn-touched woods went on forever, and a vast marshland glittered off to one side.
There was a helipad tucked away on the far side of the property, and a man waiting for him on it. Alyss landed as gracefully as he could while carrying his office in his frontpack, breathing hard. He’d tried traveling backpacks like those of most angels, but his wings were positioned in such a way that most laptop bags just weren’t comfortable.
"Morning wind caught you, did it," the man drawled, his Maine accent dulled not a bit by the many years he'd lived and served his angel.
"Height usually helps," Alyss admitted, wheezing. "Didn't this time."
The man laughed. He was of a height with the angel, which made him short; Alyss didn't quite reach the halfway mark to his sixth foot, though his oversized wings gave him the illusion of height. Kliman's Second was powerfully built, dark brown hair freely peppered with silver; he’d been made late in life. He was wearing comfortable, elegant clothing and two short knives on matching sheaths at his hips, the handles old and worn. His hand, when he offered it, was warm and heavily calloused. "Glad you could make it. I'm Gevaun, the lady's Second."
"Oh." Alyss faltered, as ever he did when he found a vampire that seemed content with their lot in life. Gevaun didn't just look well-adjusted but outright happy, and for a moment the angel didn't know what to do with that. Belatedly he scrabbled to take off a glove and meet the hand with his own. "Sorry. I'm still waiting for the day I won't feel the cold. A pleasure to meet you, Gevaun."
"I'll let the staff know to keep the place warm for you." Amazed, Alyss realized the vampire was teasing him. "Bring all the extra blankets out."
"What a sight I'll make, bundled up with only my eyes peeking out," he replied automatically, and felt an unexpected surge of gladness when Gevaun chuckled in response. The vampire gestured them on and they meandered towards the manor home by way of a winding stone path. "May I ask you why I'm here or should I wait until I'm speaking to Kliman?"
The vampire seemed to think on that far longer than the simple question merited. "You know she's old," he said at last.
"Very. But with the Cascade, it's said there's just no one to replace her if she goes into Sleep."
"Oh, there's plenty. There's none she trusts is the thing," Gevaun replied. "She's done a good thing here. Raphael's never had a reason to worry about New England because she knows the difference between a velvet glove and an iron fist. The others..." The vampire grimaced.
"That's not something an accountant can fix," Alyss pointed out primly.
Gevaun grinned at him. "No. But a good accountant can sniff out which of them's already cheating. She wants to clean house before she even considers looking for a replacement."
"Do you think they're cheating her?"
"Oh, absolutely. Well, barring Evie. But, you know, I'm her Second. I'm expected to be suspicious of everyone, even if I'm the only one."
"You've not met many accountants, have you."
Gevaun was still laughing at that when they reached the house. Alyss was surprised to be led to a bedroom, spacious and colorful, where a vast balcony had been seamlessly added to the wood and stone of the house's architecture; this was a room meant for an angel. He opened a door to an exceptionally modern bathroom, equally set up to accommodate someone with wings. Another door led to a walk-in closet empty except for boxes labeled "Books", "Kitchen", "Clothes" and the like. The last door led to an empty office where he dropped off his bag.
A maid, human, came to get him, peeking in not-so-discreet awe at him. That, at least, was behavior familiar to Alyss; he wasn't much of an angel to his own people, but to humans he was still one of those apex creatures. He was even passingly nice to look at, he often thought, though he knew most of it was his wings: they were amber-colored, some unknown quality of the feathers making them gleam in the right light, the rich hazel going to darkest honey at the tips.
Otherwise Alyss had always thought himself unremarkable. Short. Skinny. Rather than his mother's auburn hair he'd ended up with his father's fine brown curls, and rather than his striking green eyes he'd got his mother's brown gaze. At least he'd not inherited Maura's abundance of freckles. Or Elian's nose.
Compared to himself Kliman was exquisite, and he found himself tongue-tied the moment he saw her. The angel of New England was a porcelain figurine with flawless, pale skin and a long, rich golden braid at her back, between wings where every feather was tipped in various shades of violet and indigo, her eyes of matching hues. She wore clothing as comfortable as her Second's, dark gray slacks and a knit sweater fitted to her wings.
"Ah, the accountant." She beamed at Alyss and offered her hands, and when he would have instinctively bowed over them she instead pulled him into an unexpectedly strong hug. "None of that! Kissing knuckles, really now. This isn't the Dark Ages again, and thank goodness for that." She pulled away and stared at him. "Goodness, you're so young." She sounded a little crestfallen.
Alyss couldn't blame her. Time swam and lingered in the other angel's gaze, and for a moment he felt crushed under the burden she carried. "I assure you, ma'am, I got all my wild-oating out on my second century," he managed, breathless under what little he'd glimpsed of her age.
She burst out laughing in surprise. "Did you?"
"Terrible, I was. There's books still shelved in the wrong place at the Refuge's library. Truly I don't know a worse criminal."
Kliman laughed even more.
They sat and had hot cocoa and warm croissants, and Kliman told him much the same thing Gevaun had said. "I'm old, Alyss. I'm tired. This Cascade has left me hollow. So many dead, such terrible scars on the world. The healing will take decades, centuries. I’ve done my duty by my Archangel, but I’m tired. I don't have the strength for it anymore, I just don't." Gevaun, standing behind her, put a hand on her shoulder and she covered it with one of hers, smiling a little at her Second before facing Alyss again. "I want to Sleep. But after everything that was lost, after everything we fought for, I will not leave my people, my land, my charges, to someone less than worthy. I will see them cared for as I would care for them."
"I'm not the sort to ferret out plots or villains, ma'am," Alyss pointed out nervously. That simple gesture, that moment of unthinking, trusting intimacy between angel and vampire had got him so distracted he'd nearly forgotten what he was there for or what the older angel had just said.
"I know. But you are the sort to hunt down numbers to the last decimal. You can tell me if they're already taking advantage of their position. You can tell me how badly they're abusing the power I've given them. That's all I ask." Her smile turned so sharp that it made Alyss slick his wings back instinctively. "I'll take it from there."
3
Alyss began with Rhode Island. It was small, it was uncomplicated, and Gevaun already had a list of Andrew's pecadillos. "He's a vampire, he was never in the running, and he knew it from the beginning," Kliman's Second told Alyss. "We put him there because it was safe, in every way that matters. If you find anything beyond what we have I'll just go down there, put the fear of God back into him and see that he cuts it down to more reasonable levels." Alyss frowned and Gevaun grinned. "What were you expecting, Alyss?"
"That you'd kill him," the young angel admitted readily.
"Jesus! He's not bad, he's just lazy. Rhode Island's just about what he can handle."
"Yes, but he's cheating you. He's cheating Kliman. You already know this." At a loss for words, Alyss shrugged. "It's what anyone else would do. A few angels would make it linger but the end result's the same."
Gevaun stared at him a long time. "You've been to... a lot of angel homes, haven't you?"
"I've been to enough," the accountant admitted tightly as he set up his laptop. "Enough to know this place is the exception, not the rule."
"Raphael is not unfair. Ruthless, stern, but not unfair. He doesn't like his angels to be unfair either."
"That doesn't seem to stop them."
"Vampires are dangerous, Alyss. I'm one and I can tell you that. I don't trust half my breed half the time, and the other half I'd split fifty-fifty still. We're predators, and blood sings a helluva song. Bloodlust is a very real threat."
"Vampires are predators, yes. I know that. I've seen a great deal of them, I've met a great deal of them, in passing." Alyss put down his tablet a little more forcefully than he'd intended and turned to look at Gevaun. "But humans learned to gentle horses to saddle rather than break them. They learned not to uses whips or fire or hooks on animals for entertainment. You'd think we angels could do better than them with a sentient creature. Except we don't." He drew and let out a deep breath, and realized he was an inch away from blowing up at his employer's Second. He went so profoundly red he felt it like radiant heat, and flailed with his equipment. "Rhode Island first then, got it. On it. Right away."
Gevaun's brows, unseen, went up minutely. So, there was steel to the little goldfinch. Interesting. "Leave you to it," he drawled and walked away, closing the door to the little office soundlessly.
Alyss waited until he was sure he was alone to collapse on his keyboard with a pathetic sound. Ah, yes, just the sort of first impression that got him recommended to others. Well, nothing to it now, he'd just have to let his work impress instead.
If not because Kliman insisted that he take dinner with the household, Alyss would have lost all track of time buried in his work. Ever since he’d been little, when he’d first realized that what went on in his head did not have a spoken form, he’d realized he would have to be his own translator for the rest of his life. Numbers ruled his mind, his dreams, shaped and defined his world. When he was at work numbers danced in his mind's eye, falling into serried, organized rows and columns, order that he brought about. It was a very small sliver of the world, but one he controlled, one he knew, one that did exactly what he told it to do. It was hard to peel himself away and accept that he belonged to a very different reality, but for the angel of New England he did, every night, even as he spend his days working.
The first thing he noticed was that Gevaun was keeping a very good watch on Andrew.
The second was that Kliman's own accounts were not what they should be.
After confirming a fourth time, he threw himself out of the office and onto the balcony, gliding down to one of the paths likely to take him into the woods. He needed air, he needed space, he needed his thoughts to stop harassing him. He hadn't been brought in to audit his boss, for the love of prime numbers! Well, technically he had been, but!
The woods welcomed him with whispering breezes and unexpected torrents of leaves, and Alyss' mood changed almost immediately. He spread his wings and shook them, laughing a little when he realized he couldn't fully dislodge the leaves caught in his feathers. He dragged his shoes through piles of gold and brown, red and orange, gleeful as a child. He found a few wild rose-hips and left a tiny offering of blood on the rose thorns when he picked them and ate them, sweet and tart like little pieces of sunlight made solid.
The thwack of the ax splitting wood nearly made him jump out of his skin. He froze, eyes wide, sucking on his bloody fingertips. When the sound came again he flinched, but it was also reassuring proof that he wasn't hearing things. The third time he straightened up and began to earnestly follow the sound deeper into the woods.
The sound was coming from a clearing where a falling tree had dragged two more of its brethren down with it. It had happened long enough ago that all three trees were dry and dead, prime pickings for firewood. Kliman's manor ran on solar power, but it did have a number of fireplaces that were probably very cozy when they were going. The trees had been cleared of branches, which had been cut into kindling and neatly bundled up on the bed of a small wagon attached to a muddy ATV. The logs had been split into sections at some point, the chips from the chainsaw's work littering the ground beneath them.
There was a man splitting those sections with an ax, and Alyss immediately felt as if he were intruding into someone's privacy.
The man was nothing but muscle. He'd stripped off his jacket and shirt, which were hung on the side slates of the wagon. He was tall, swarthy, what Alyss' mother would have called 'sun-kissed' with an appreciative purr. The thought only served to make Alyss flush, flustered. His hair was short and wavy and very, very dark, and his shoulders were exactly the sort one would expect of someone splitting wood as if it were butter under a hot knife.
Alyss suddenly choked; what he'd thought to be dappled light falling on the man's skin wasn't. It was moving when he moved. It was scar tissue. The lumberjack's back and arms were covered in it, thin lines spread out with sickening regularity and creating a very precise grid all over him.
The man whipped around at the tiny sound, the ax held up like a weapon. Alyss scrabbled back and away, arms coming up to appease. Before he could say anything one of his wings slammed into the tree behind it, and the other ran right into a mass of brambles. "Wait, no, I don't mean -" The rest of whatever excuse he'd been about to offer went out of him in a startled cry of pain.
"Don't move!" The stranger barked, tossing aside the ax and putting his gloved hands out as if to calm a frightened animal. "Don't move, don't move your wings."
Alyss was finding some small measure of reassurance in the ax not being brandished at him, but it was about the only part of the current situation that wasn't worth some panic. "Oh, it hurts!"
"You're caught in a greenbrier. Don't move." The man repeated, his tone low and slow. He had an accent Alyss couldn't place. His face was carved stone, his features stark, lean and austere; there were very dark shadows under his bright green eyes, and he looked starved but calm. He put his hands up. "I'll get you loose but I need my knife."
The silence grew between them. "Alright?" Alyss said uncertainly, not sure why he'd have to be informed of such an obvious thing.
The stranger gave him an unreadable look. He stepped back to the wagon, chucking off one of his heavy gloves, and grabbed a plain leather sheath from one of the jacket's pockets. Slowly, carefully, he approached Alyss and then moved around him, to the tangled-up wing. "You can fold the other one," he said.
His voice was low, the accent giving it a pleasant sort of music that under better circumstances Alyss would have appreciated as much as the man’s looks. "I'm afraid they get on the buddy system when I'm stressed," he admitted. From up close the scars were even more obvious in their methodical, almost mechanical pattern. The man was sweat-sheened, he smelled of his work, of wood and forest... and of the faint, alluring scent of a particular predator.
A vampire.
"Fair."
Alyss saw him gingerly grab something, felt the tug of it against his feathers, and stiffened in anticipation of pain. It didn't come. "What is it? What did you call it?"
"Greenbrier. Tangly sort of vine." The pressure eased in part of Alyss' wing, and the vampire showed him the culprit, a thin green vine covered in spines nothing really ought to need for anything but a nefarious purpose.
"I don't think I needed to see that," Alyss admitted breathlessly, his whole body tightening up again. "But it's good to know what to avoid in the future, I guess."
"If you're in the habit of not staying to the path, that might be wise," the vampire said mildly as he carefully, so carefully, cut the greenbrier off in bits and pieces. Of all the things he'd expected, to find an angel in the middle of the woods hadn't been part of the schedule. He'd planned to spend the day alone, working on the firewood. The silence and the solitude were balm he sorely needed. Instead he was cutting greenbriers off of one of the most delicate-looking angels he'd ever seen, and that included Kliman. The thorns of the greenbrier had ruffled some of the amber-colored feathers, had twisted a few, and the sight wounded him. It had to hurt, but the angel was doing as he'd been told, holding perfectly still, even if by angelic standards the vampire was practically groping him. "You're the accountant."
"Yes. I'm Alyss."
"Hn." The vampire threw aside a massive loop of the spiny vine. "Jean."
"John?"
"Jean," he corrected, grunting when the greenbrier, unsurprisingly, punched right through his glove. He got a better grip and cut another section off the wing.
"Oh, Jean." The angel huffed shakily. "Well, I'm glad to meet you."
"Are you," Jean paused to stare dubiously at him.
"Yes. Very glad actually. Otherwise I'd be stuck here with no one to help me."
"If I wasn't here you wouldn't have had a reason to come looking. Why'd you come, anyway?"
"I heard the ax, I couldn't tell what was going on."
"You've never heard someone chopping wood?"
"Not for a century or so."
"Fair," the vampire admitted after a moment. "Alright, move. Slow. I can't tell if I got it all from this angle."
"So... get behind me?" Alyss suggested blankly.
Jean had to pause and digest that suggestion, so innocently, so trustingly put out there for him. "Would, but there's a tree in the way. It's gonna win whatever fight I start." Alyss made a nervous sound and the vampire leaned back. "Hey. Look at me." When those sweet brown eyes met his gaze he spoke as calmly as he could. "You're alright. Just move slow. If something tightens up, stop."
Alyss closed his eyes, drew in a deep breath, and let it out very, very slowly. He tried to fold his wings -
"Stop." Next to him, Jean dropped to his knees and slipped beneath the wings. Some more greenbrier began to fly off in pieces.
"Thank you for being careful,” Alyss murmured, even though a flush of embarrassment was slowly but surely creeping over his face. “I am not a libertine, I'd like to point out," the accountant said primly, wrapping his arms around himself.
The comment was so outlandish, so out of nowhere, and such a complete betrayal of the angel's current state of mind as well as his efforts to ease it, that Jean barked out a laugh before he realized what he'd done. He had to stop and pull away, leaning back on his knees to look up at that fine-boned face. He could feel the ghost of a grin trying to break free. "Too much action for you?" Jean watched crimson spread over the fair skin, and the angel could only offer a high-pitched, wordless sound in response, covering his face with one hand. "I won't tell, I promise."
"I'm not a virgin, either!" Alyss declared staunchly from behind his hand. Somehow it seemed very important that he declare that, and yet as soon as the words were out he couldn't believe he'd said them.
"Duly noted," was all the vampire said in response. "Alright, try now. Slow." When Alyss managed to pull both wings tight to his back, Jean further instructed, "Lift your wings up. Alright, now step forward, three steps. Ought to put you clear of the greenbriers." When the angel obeyed and was finally both safe and free, Jean rolled smoothly to his feet and moved to the wagon to clean his knife.
"Oh, it itches, it itches, it all itches. Thank you, Jean, but it itches. Please, excuse me."
"Excuse wh-" Before he could finish, Alyss had sprung up. The vampire jerked away and crouched down instinctively; such a take-off was usually a maneuver only seasoned angelic warriors learned or mastered. But Alyss, Jean realized, had an unexpected advantage: his wings were big for his size, larger than those of most angels the vampire had ever seen. He leapt and cupped them and they caught the breeze, effectively parachuting him up and away. Just like that, the accountant was gone. "Anytime," Jean told the empty clearing, and went back to chopping wood.

*GASP* 😱🤩😁
Awesome! Thanks! Wow, okay. You know what? I'm gonna be a mad woman and answer ALL OF THEM. Eheheheheheh. Let's go! Under the cut since this thing is LOOOOOOOOOONG.
1. Do I prefer one-shots or multiple chapter fic's? Hm. Hard to say. Although, I do enjoy connecting plots and references in multiple chapter fics. So I'm gonna go with that one.
3) Describe the writing process. Well, first I make a scene map. It's a jist of what will happen of the course of the story as a whole. It keeps everything inline and easy to rearrange if something doesn't work or won't make sense. Then I just wing it and add the action and dialogue. I've found that it works really well!
4) Where do I find inspo? EVERYWHERE! Disney movies and life experience especially. I love classic adventure films/comedies. But for the more emotional bits I sometimes struggle. So then I'll turn to book and movies with more emotional plots. Or I'll just try my best to imagine the emotions the characters are going through. I especially like writing about domestic family life and love. And I find a lot of inspiration from those kinds of stories. Especially since my fic is basically the Brotherhood and Vat7k merged. I haven't got to those parts yet, but I will!
6) Do I beta my work? Nope. Haha. Well, sometimes. My little brother actually enjoys hearing my stories. So I'll read him a chapter sometimes. And my mom likes to listen too. So that counts I guess. They give me good feedback. And I have a friend that reads it after I published it and they give me good feedback as well.
7) Everyone's it seems! You get to hear all their thoughts. It just depends on which one is talking at the moment. Or what's going on.
8) Do I enjoy the beginning, middle, or end of a story? End! Because that's were everything is wrapped up and makes sense! Although, if the ending is poorly done, it will irk me to no end.
10) Er, yeah. I'm writing this on my phone. I don't think it can do that. Sorry.
12) Well, I makes me a little sad when I don't. But it makes sense too since I don't have a very well known fic and since it takes me a while to update. So I understand.
13) NONE OF THEM!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Lol. Yeah, I figured that actually when I write, that it I focused too much on the rules and tips, it actually caused me writers block and became less fun for me.. So I just throw caution to the wind and run with whatever idea I got!
14) How do I write emotional scene? With lot of crying. From me... And preferably with some tissues beside me. Haha. Anyway, jokes aside. I'm not to sure. It seems to be a hit and miss for me. Sometimes I've got big moving scenes that will make you ball. And other times it's like "He was sad." :/
16) Ooh! I do have one actually! It will probably be in the distant future. But it's a modern version of my fic and it involves aliens, unstable government projects, an awesome foster family, and a ranch! It's super cool! In case your wondering, SPOILER ALERT! The aliens are where Varian got his Moon powers and how Ulla disappeared.
17) When does writing become difficult. Writer's block is definitely one. But burnout? Burnout is the worst! *Insert Ben Schwartz yelling "THE WOOOORST!"*
18) That's interesting actually because sometimes I do and I'll leave them to write later. I have a bunch like that! I helps me keep track of everything I want to write. But I don't lable them too far into the fic. It's mostly one shots I do this with.
19) I don't have ao3. But most used tag here is Alchemy Bros!
20) There's a lot of sadness. I know that sounds bad, but I'm writing a continuation of a role play I followed and that eventually ended on a cliffhanger. Before that, the characters went through lot of trauma and the story I'm writing is basically the whole family healing together. Which is very sweet I think. Of course there will be action though! And fun!
21) Would I ever collaborate? Not sure how to do that. But, I usually prefer to work on my own. I like being able to adjust things to how I like it. And while I'm sure a collaboration would be fun, I like to keep the story mostly in my hands. So I don't think it would be a good idea.
22) Anything heavily adult. Never ever. I hate heavy gore, smut, and swearing. Nothing like that will ever be in my fics. Even if a character gets a severe injury, it will only be vaguely mentioned.
23) Best writing advice? If you need a break, take a gosh dang break! I have to learn this myself. But it is effective. If you tired and you body telling you rest, do it!
24) I can't think of anytime I've actually got bad writing advice. At least, nothing comes to mind.
25) Any of them really.
27) Writing romance. That is the hardest thing ever! I'm way better at platonic relationships and family bonds. Romance can sometimes be just to cringy to me.😅
29) I pretty much just read it through and if I see something I don't like, I just fix it. If it's a big thing though, it off to the scene map to switch things around again! Or cut things out if necessary.
31) Characters or plot? Hm... That's an interesting one. I can't really say because the thing is when I get a really good idea, it just kind explodes in my mind! I know what characters are going to be what and what will happen. But maybe when it's not like that, I guess you could say it's the Characters. Like, if I'm coming up with an Au, I'll usually figure out who I want where and then I'll figure out the plot. I'm not sure if this all makes sense. I'm flying by the seat of my pants right now.😂
33) Do I want my work published? YES YES YES YES!!! AJAJSHSHDGDHDKAKA! I planning on becoming a script writer someday! I love writing scripts for TV shows and movies! Book writing is fun too though and I might do that as well.
34) Hopefully happy with plenty of work published. And having made lots of people's lives better and more exciting.😁
35) Don't forget what type of villain you have. It's so easy it seems for people to forget. Do you want one that we will sympathize with? Make them sympathetic. Don't make him a horrible person and then expect us to feel bad for them. You want us to hate them? Then don't make the likeable! It's crazy how many times I've seen this.
38) Nope! Don't take commissions. Don't take requests. I got a very busy life and that would probably send me straight over the edge! Haha!
39) WIP snippet? Of course! Here! Not the best, but I've got one!
Tumblr media
40) Oh gosh. Nobody's done that. I would be thrilled! But thanks to burnout, I'm only two chapters into the fic so there wouldn't be much to draw. Lol! But I would love to see art of future chapters I have planned. Lots of family fluff and action scenes! I guess if I had to choose a scene from a chapter I already have, then maybe the one we're Ulla has finally been taken outside the library by Varian and his friends and they're all looking out over Corona from the grassy base of the mountain. It's a very peaceful scene. Not too much happens, but it's calm.
41) I reread constantly! I several favorites that I like to read all the time!
46) Definitely emotional and action driven. There's no in-between. Either we're sobbing or diving head long in the fray!
47) My process. Number 1. Write fic. Number 2. Proof read. Number 3. Post. Number 4. Edit because I realized that I was so tired out that misspelled ten words, completely looked over a gaping plot hole, and forgot to add the chapter links. In short, I'm pretty chaotic!
48) Don't know. Never looked into one.
49) Nobody reads my stuff enough to warrant a bad review. 🤣🥲 But yeah. I'd probably handle it pretty well though!
51) Don't have an account! Probably won't ever either! I prefer it here. On cozy Tumblr.😊
52) I always respond to comments! Why? Well, sometimes I leave comments and people don't answer. I understand of course. People get busy, or are to tired. Everyone deals with that. But of course, it always makes me just a bit sad because I like talking to people. I don't want anyone to feel that way! Everyone is welcome! I'll be happy to talk to you. No matter what!
54) Writing practice! It helps for someday when I'll be publishing my stuff!
55) Definitely Hugo! I love him and connect with him a lot too. I especially like the version of him from the roleplay I followed. In my opinion, he was one of the best versions I've seen of him. Not overly sexualized or vulgar. And much more empathetic. That's why I'm continuing his story!
56) I love the fact I can use symbolism or deeper meaning's in my writing. Little things that seem un-important. But really mean everything. And I hope that as more people read my work, they'll get to see it more.
57) I prefer editing as I write. But sometimes I go over the top and tire myself out. So I need to learn to rein it in and relax. Gotta to remember to not sweat the small stuff.
58) The brainstorming! Coming up with world building and epic action movie style scenes to take place is my jam!
60) I do actually! My friend @cassandrium360 is amazing and read their stuff before befriending them! Afterwards, they told me to let them know when I new chapter was coming out so I could show them everytime! I was ecstatic! And it's been that way ever since! I love them to pieces!
61) Because I like sharing with people! That's it really.
62) Cliffhangers? Hate them. I hate them with a passion. It's one of my pet peeves. So many good shows and movies are ruined by the them. They're almost as bad as a sloppy ending.
65) The finale of my story should epic! And I also look forward to maybe doing some animatics based on certain chapters. I'm not too good yet. But I'm gonna get there!
67) I like prompts sometimes. I prefer to find them myself. But I will ask every once in a while. If I'm particular uninspired.
68) Listen to music. I can imagine whole movies and animations to one song. It's something I've been able to do since I was little. And it helped me in the long run with my writing!
70) I get a little embarrassed. But I think that's because I'm shy. I'm much more comfortable on here actually!
71) Once again, the scene map saves lives! If you want to know how to do one, just send my message and I'll show you!
72) Beginning to end! Start to finish. I hate writing things out of order.
73) It's definitely different from most Varian and the Seven Kingdoms fics. The most notable thing is that there's no Varigo. Varian and Hugo are in a healthy brotherly relationship. And in fact, Hugo is practically adopted by Ulla and Quirin. Also, instead of Nuru and Yong, I have two characters from the roleplay Jacky and Belle in their place. Nuru and Yong weren't included in the roleplay very much, so I decided not to use them. And instead say that they left earlier in the journey to go home. Since they had found whatever they were looking for. Jacky and Belle are super fun actually and I love them. Great characters!
75) The chapter I'm on now. It's been almost a whole fricken year! And it's 95% finished! And YET, I'm still struggling.😭 Oh well.🤷 I'll get there!
76) I remember one thing I thought about this one thing were Hugo's birth dad Alec*, who is a horrible person and tried to to take him out, tried to kidnap him and Varian and the family would have to rescue him! It didn't make the cut though and now I have a new villain. Alec will still be there, but not as the kidnapper. *Alec is another character from the roleplay*
77) Yes! The one we're Ulla finally get out of library! It's in the first chapter and it's very sweet. Plenty of hugs and comfort.
WOW!✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
I did it! Alright. Time to pass out. Thanks for the ask! Bye! *faints*🤣

Fanfic Writer Asks | Ask Box
Riley's answers:
2. Do you read/reread your own fics? – I do, so I can remember what it was that I was going to do before I stopped writing it for whatever reason I did, lol. Otherwise, I re-read it if I haven't in a while simply because I enjoyed it. Also, I'm reading it as I'm writing it so there's no way I'm not reading it, if that makes sense.
3. What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written? – Well, this is hard considering I have over so many of them that are finished that are posted online, so many that are finished that will never see the light of day other than between myself and my sisters, and also in that there's more than that from those I deleted over previous years. BUT it's any of The Flash and the Flame series (The Flash), and of my Elementals series (SLOZAC/SLOD), The Can't Help It Series (SLOZAC/SLOD), and any of my Big Time Rush ones, I honestly can't choose just one.
4. How many WIPs do you have right now? – 100+
5. What’s a fic idea you’ve had that you will never write? – My idea of a Bit Beast War for Beyblade and my idea for Teen Wolf of a mythical creature hit list. I will never write them.
7. How many ideas for fics do you have right now? – *Checks Notes* Over 30 across multiple fandoms.
15. How do you come up with titles for your fics/chapters? – It's either a play on the theme to the fic, a play on words, or it's a play on a idiom.
16. At what point in the process do you come up with titles? – At the very end. Most of my documents are titled [insert title here] until I come up with it.
19. Give us a small teaser from one of your WIPs. – From the next chapter of "The Night Witch" (Narnia)
“I don’t know, I think she has something there. I mean, Jadis was known as the White Witch. She had powers all over the realm of cryogenics,” Susan explained. She looked to Edmund and Peter and added, “Ice and winter,” as if explaining something to a child. Both of her brothers gave her exasperated looks in response. “We’ve all heard the stories from Professor Kirke…of her immortality.” “And then Nikabrik, the hag, and the werewolf tried to bring her back,” Peter agreed. “Her body may be gone but…” he swallowed hard. “That doesn’t mean her life is.” “You said the powers were like hers…but not exact. Lu, what did you mean?” “Exactly as I said. There’s another witch out there, the magical powers…I can feel it. Professor Kirke explained it me, when he told us stories of his uncle and what happened with him and Polly. I know the feeling of that magic; I can sense it. It’s similar but is the strongest at night. Just as Jadis was strongest in winter…she was the White Witch, and this one…” “Is a Night Witch,” Edmund finished for her. He shrugged in light appreciation. “Good name.”
20. What’s a favorite title for a fic you’ve written? – “Whatever It Takes (To Get Me Out Of Here)” for my Degrassi fic...which I really need to get back to.
21. Have you ever deleted an entire scene after spending hours laboring over it? If so, why? – Yep, all the time, and it's mostly because something about it isn't working and I can't force it to work.
22. Do you know how your fic will end before you start writing? – I usually know the end line/the end scene of a fic before I write anything else of it. So, I come up with the end before I come up with the plot and work my way into how to make the end make sense.

Rhuben's answers:
2. Do you read/reread your own fics? – Yes! Most of the time it’s to remind myself what idea I’ve already done, or where I am in a fic I’m currently writing because it’s been so long since I updated it, but yes. A lot of it is cringy, but it’s also fun! A lot of the time I can remember where I was in my life at the time I wrote it, or I can pinpoint what inspired me to write it in the first place.
3. What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written? – As far as completed ones go, probably my Flash fanfic (In a Flash) or my Big Time Rush fanfic (Never Again). They were the first two “big” ones I’d say I did from start to finish that I felt was complete in terms of what beats I wanted to hit, what tones, the characterization, and everything really felt like it came together. (I do have a bad habit of starting fics and never finishing them, or just silently deleting them, or just going with a new WIP as soon as I get that idea).
4. How many WIPs do you have right now? – A LOT! Is the short answer. But that also depends on what you mean by WIP. Did I actually start writing out parts or just open a document and just dump my base ideas? Counting them, 50+
5. What’s a fic idea you’ve had that you will never write? – Honestly, probably my SSX 3 fanfic about Skye Simms and her best friend (my OC) competing for a wild card spot into the circuit for that year. My OC gets it for that game iteration and realizes how out of her depth she is as her base sport is wakeboarding. I’ve been really into this idea for a looooooooooong time, but don’t know if I’ll ever actually do it.
7. How many ideas for fics do you have right now? – I always have idea for fics. It could be new ideas or just different ways to write the same trope for the bajillionth time. But, I have ideas for: Digimon, Pokemon, SSX 3, Beyblade, Kingdom Hearts, Miraculous Ladybug, Power Rangers, The Artful Dodger, Young Justice, Mighty Ducks, Superstore/Big Time Rush crossover, The Flash/Criminal Minds crossover, Chicago Fire/Chicago PD, X-Men (movies), and more I’m forgetting as I think of this off the top of my head. (And that's just for things I'd post online.)
15. How do you come up with titles for your fics/chapters? – 9 times out of 10 it’s a song title or a lyric. I’m listening to music allll theeeee timmeeee and tend to get stuck on certain phrases that just latches on to my brain. Otherwise, it’s titles from episodes of other shows, or random book titles I come across.
16. At what point in the process do you come up with titles? – If I don’t already have an idea for the series/fanfic title, it’ll usually come as I’m writing up the (FFN/full-length) summary of the fanfic because I like to try and have something quippy or punny or clever in the summary that goes along with the title or the overarching plot.
19. Give us a small teaser from one of your WIPs. – From my DC’s Stargirl fic, “Collateral Damage”
“If my parents catch me eating this, they’ll ground me into dust.” Still, Artemis Crock quickly removed the plastic from the Twinkie in her hands and took a large bite of the spongy treat. Her eyes fell shut, and a smile graced the curve of her lips as she chewed. “But, it’s so good,” Connie Sinclair said, using her finger to wipe away the glob of cream oozing out of the Twinkie in her own hand. She licked the cream off her finger and sighed. “Mmmm.” “Tell me about it,” Artemis said, her words barely managing to tumble out of her mouth before she took a second bite.
20. What’s a favorite title for a fic you’ve written? – “Silent Pages, Loud Words.” It’s the title of a Big Time Rush one-shot focusing on Kendall, but I always really felt something deep with that phrase.
21. Have you ever deleted an entire scene after spending hours laboring over it? If so, why? – YES!! All the time! Mostly it’s because by the time I write the stuff around it, it doesn’t fit with the tone of the chapter anymore. There’s a section from my Flash fanfic “Out of Focus” where Iris West is supposed to spend time with her estranged mother without her knowing about it, and I’ve tried to fit that in the past four chapters, and it still doesn’t work and I keep moving it somewhere else.
22. Do you know how your fic will end before you start writing? – Yes; A lot of the time, the ending is one of the things I write right after the first chapter. Recently, a lot of my fics are like “novelizations” of the movie/tv series they’re based off of, so I know how it ends canonically, but it’s how it’d change regarding my OC that makes it fun to write the different stuff. I already have the ending to my Criminal Minds fic (which I REALLY need to get back to) written and ready to go.

Clouds, hello!
For a 2023 year in review writer ask :3
1, 3, 9, 15, 19, 21, 22, 29, 30
Thank you for blessing us the past year with your wonderful stories, and once again - congratulations on finishing your magnum opus (for now; I'm sure you'll write another outstanding story if you were planning to write a long fic!) Black Water.
I said it already (many times but anyway) but I admire you a lot as a writer and I really look up to you a lot.
Heyyy Anna!!
I'm always happy to be a part of this fandom with people as talented as you! Also, the best part about writing BW was being able to share it you and everyone here ❤️
Let's get to the questions!
What’s something new that you tried in a fic this year? How did it turn out and would you do it again?
While this past year has been a wonderful and unique experience all on its own, it's gotta be writing "out of order"
Slow and Steady all happens in the same universe and the same timeline, but I wanted to try and let smaller stories flow together into one without having to worry about writing them all at that way
3. What’s something you learned about yourself as a writer?
That I get too much into a single "universe" and refuse to leave it. Im glad that this allows me to delve deeper into the characters emotions in a particular situation, but it also hinders my creativity that it becomes harder to write anything different or anything too different
Leaving is possible, but not as easy
9. What fic meant the most to you to write?
.... I tried to find a different answer, but It'd be a gross lie to say 2023 wasn't the year I posted some of the heaviest and hardest to go through chapters of BW
Thanks to BW I was able to allow myself to explore a lot of feelings and thought-patterns that I usually gloss over in my head because they're either too painful or too overwhelming to consider on my own, but in fiction, if felt more doable
15. Rec a fic you wrote or posted in 2023
It's only appropriate that I rec Slow and Steady, considering it started as a 2023 challenge (but will live on for much longer lol)
Kind of a way for me to hop between different points of their relationship without being stuck with a plot or particular narrative
19. Share your favorite opening line
The second chapter of Slow and Steady
"It’s the eighteenth day when Armin finally picks one up. It’s slim and long and surprisingly weightless where it fits effortlessly between his index and middle fingers. He wonders how much thought went into ensuring it’s as easy as possible to hold."
I love writing sad Armin who's trying to keep it together you know?
21. Share your favorite piece of dialogue
...... Anna do you know how much I wrote this year!?
on top of 8 chapters of BW ALONE
ffs
Black Water, Ch 20. Not The "pillow talk" but the part just before it. Annie isn't used to comforting and supporting Armin with words rather than actions, but this is the first time since the beginning of the timeline she does it and it'll always has a place in my heart

Black Water, ch 17:
It was just this morning that Armin woke up alone. This same bed felt too big and too empty, with one of the pillows remaining squarely by the headboard, untouched and smoothed over. Now, it’s a mess; utter chaos. Annie has her hands in her hair, working out loose knots while leaning back on her pillow—which she’ll probably have to spend upwards of fifteen minutes working back into proper shape when they try to sleep again. The blanket resembles the peaks of high waves on a stormy day where it rests atop her knees, cascading in all sorts of ripples and wrinkles. Both towels she used are still on the floor, damp and in need of good airing so they remain smelling fresh. He tells himself that it does not matter that Annie wasn’t here this morning, or the night before, or the one to precede, but that she’s here now. That she came back and he’ll make sure to hold on to her properly this time around.
2022 was the year of making Annie suffer. 2023 was the year of making Armin suffer
29. If this were an awards show, who would you thank?
To my friend from 6th(ish) grade whom I exchanged a lot of my writing with
30. What’s something that you want to write in 2024?
Something Armin-focused for sure! I've been wanting to do that for months now with no luck. Maybe this year will be it!

Note
for the fanfic end of year asks, 1-30!! :D
Oh dear lol let's see then
Tumblr media
1. Sprout, Grow, Bloom
2. Sprout, Grow, Bloom (by default since it's the only fic I've worked on this year)
3. Racking my brain to remember what scenes I even wrote in the year 2023 lmfao uhmmmmm, let's see . . . Oh! Hahaha, probably when Oikawa got peed on when holding that puppy. That was funny. Or when Hanamaki, in the most recent chapter, subtly kept teasing Iwaizumi about Oikawa and gave him "food for thought", love to see Iwaizumi suffer through being flustered. And then favorite because of dramatic effect is probably was happened with Yuda (can't explain bc spoilers), like that whole chapter turned out even better than I thought it would (not for Yuda of course lol poor guy)

8. Did not complete any fics
9. Sprout, Grow, Bloom
10. Sprout, Grow, Bloom
11. Haikyuu (it's the only fandom I wrote for)
12. Matsukawa and Hanamaki <3
13. I listened to my various SGB playlists
14. Technically could answer with SGB since I didn't expect it to be so long and complicated
15. I've made writing harder than it needs to be
16. None😭
17. Sprout, Grow, Bloom
18. Just SGB, I don't count my other WIPS because I haven't touched them in years and don't think about them much at all
19. No, will just be struggling to work on SGB🥲
20. There's 3 comments in my inbox marked as unread, but only because I've not replied yet. I have read them (multiple times) (with the intention of replying) (just have not managed yet)
21. Someone commented on SGB and said I'm like the Dostoevsky of ao3, which I think is high praise? (tbh I've never read Dostoevsky, though because of that comment, I'm curious to read something by him and see what his style/storytelling is like)
22. None
23. The only fic I particularly want to write is SGB and it's been such a slow process
24. fine line by starsqwub
25. The one I mentioned above, and also my friend's star wars au (to the ends of the earth by axreliono) (they've worked so hard on it and it's woefully underappreciated) (they've just finished the first draft and many more chapters will be out soon!)
26. I made 46 new bookmarked this year and have not yet read most of them
27. I'd have to say fairycake, read several of their works for the first time and quite enjoyed them
28. Ironically, the longest fic I read was probably my own during a re-read, especially if we count all the stuff I've not posted yet for SGB and all the notes/etc
29. For You by kylar (this was a re-read for me, highly recommend checking it out, it's not nearly as appreciated as it should be)
30. Haikyuu, of course
