I don't know if the epic poems count as mythology, but do you prefer the Iliad or the Odyssey? And why?

I absolutely would count them as mythology, on a personal level, though I must confess that I actually really need to read them because, so far, I am just familiar with the plot but have never read them (I'm a disgrace).

I think I prefer The Iliad because I am more familiar with it and I think it is a bit more entertaining, rather than simply telling the story of how one singular protagonist spent 10 years trying to return to Ithaca and his wife. Moreover, The Iliad contains characters such as Patroclus and Achilles within it (whose deaths broke my heart even as a young child), though I must say that Epic: The Musical has slightly changed my perspective on Odysseus for the better, because I used to look down on him a bit.

i think for Act One, it would intentionally be a little hazy? like enough that you can see something is a little off, but it’s not so obvious that it really sticks out. it would probably have Reader at the forefront with black feathers falling from the letters, maybe? and it’s dark behind them, but there are two silhouettes we can barely see: Miranda and pre-full mutation Lunatic. it looks like a strange mix of horror and… peace? maybe? and i definitely feel like they should be placed outside in that forest they woke up in with the moon shining somewhere above them, perhaps in the distance, since it’s a very important part of the story and of Act One

although Act Two isn’t finished, i would probably have its cover be something like a kneeling, defeated Reader with someone unknown standing above them, only two glowing golden eyes shown. Reader is probably at least partially mutated here and their clothing is probably torn, as well as blood on their face and/or body, and their wings are spread out as far as they can go behind them. once again, they’re in that same forest, but little things need to be off: a tree branch isn’t connected to its home tree, a root is too high up… little things that if you pay attention, you’ll know something is wrong. perhaps in this one, the moon is casting Reader and the person above them in a dark light and only the edges of their bodies are outlined? i’m not entirely sure if this makes sense

and Act Three hasn’t even begun yet, so we’ll hold off on that one for now :3

also, i realize the Dimitrescus aren’t in the covers, but that’s because, while they are an important part of the story, it’s not necessarily centered around them, you know? but i could probably add at least the girls in the back somewhere of the first cover so they’re still there. i dunno, im not an artist 😭

as a general statement, I got and answered a lot of asks in and around last season about my thoughts and criticisms and analysis of the show, which was very fun! I love talking about things and to y’all, but full disclosure, my tolerance for fandom BS is at an all time low, and significantly lower than it was last go around so i’m a) prob not the best person if ur interested in discourse and b) there’s a non zero chance I will be not nice if u spew some bs into my inbox.

while i’m still happy to engage with content (obviously) and discussions around the show, i’ve said it before and i’ll said it again now just so everyone’s clear, I am decidedly NOT a book purist. If you have issues if and when the show changes things from the books, I am not the best person to air those grievances with. You are perfectly entitled to those opinions, I just, chances are, am not gonna care!

hi sameera 💖 i'm sorry if this is a strange question to ask but i was wondering how you choose/decide on specific scenes to gif, especially for the per-episode sets you do for TV shows..! like.. your ~thought process~ or ~criteria~ for seeing a cut and then choosing to gif that? idk if this is making any sense but i always find your sets so coherent and beautiful and i was curious how that process worked for you, if you had one!

hey!!! and don't worry, it's not a strange question at all! it's hard to describe exactly how i go about choosing scenes to gif, but i'll try my best. a lot of it really does come down to just scrubbing through an episode and keeping an eye out for shots that are just really beautiful, or well-lit, or something that i instrinsically know i'll be able to manipulate in photoshop to bring out a specific color (or colors!) in mind.

that really does come with practice, though! i wasn't as good at it when i first started giffing, but i've noticed that with time and experience, choosing scenes to gif and having a sense of intuition regarding which scenes i can enhance the colors of has become more like second nature. it's still not fool-proof at all, don't get me wrong; i've colored additional gifs that i wind up discarding entirely, or i've recolored a gifset multiple times before posting it, or a gif that i really wanted to include in a set or one that i thought i would be able to color doesn't work out the way i wanted it to. and we're our own worst critics! a lot of the sets i post i don't feel too good about, or i don't think many of them are coherent at all, but i know deep down that a lot of that is just me getting in my own way.

so i guess the long and short of it is: i try to have a basic idea of what i'd like to choose for a set, but i don't commit too strictly to it either; sometimes, an idea for a set doesn't pan out and some gifs get cut out from the final post. but most of the time, it's about focusing on what i feel looks best, and making a set that is varied in the shots chosen and the colors that are enhanced. and i also try to remember to always avoid being too hard on myself! for me, that's what's worked best so far, and it enables me to have the most fun while giffing.

People ask me sometimes how I'm so confident that we can beat climate change.

There are a lot of reasons, but here's a major one: it would take a really, really long time for Earth to genuinely become uninhabitable for humans.

Humans have, throughout history, carved out a living for themselves in some of the most harsh, uninhabitable corners of the world. The Arctic Circle. The Sahara. The peaks of the Himalayas. The densest, most tropical regions of the Amazon Rainforest. The Australian Outback. etc. etc.

Frankly, if there had been a land bridge to Antarctica, I'm pretty sure we would have been living there for thousands of years, too. And in fact, there are humans living in Antarctica now, albeit not permanently.

And now, we're not even facing down apocalypse, anymore. Here's a 2022 quote from the author of The Uninhabitable Earth, David Wallace-Wells, a leader on climate change and the furthest thing from a climate optimist:

"The most terrifying predictions [have been] made improbable by decarbonization and the most hopeful ones practically foreclosed by tragic delay. The window of possible climate futures is narrowing, and as a result, we are getting a clearer sense of what’s to come: a new world, full of disruption but also billions of people, well past climate normal and yet mercifully short of true climate apocalypse. Over the last several months, I’ve had dozens of conversations — with climate scientists and economists and policymakers, advocates and activists and novelists and philosophers — about that new world and the ways we might conceptualize it. If we can adapt to some of the harshest climates on the planet - if we could adapt to them thousands of years ago, without any hint of modern technology - then I have every faith that we can adjust to the world that is coming.

What matters now is how fast we can change, because there is a wide, wide gap between "climate apocalypse" and "no harm done." We've already passed no harm done; the climate disasters are here, and they've been here. People have died from climate disasters already, especially in the Global South, and that will keep happening.

But as long as we stay alive - as long as we keep each other alive - we will have centuries to fix the effects of climate change, as much as we possibly can.

And looking at how far we've come in the past two decades alone - in the past five years alone - I genuinely think it is inevitable that we will overcome climate change.

So, we're going to survive climate change, as a species.

What matters now is making sure that every possible individual human survives climate change as well.

What matters now is cutting emissions and reinventing the world as quickly as we possibly can.

What matters now is saving every life and livelihood and way of life that we possibly can.

It’s dinner, and you’re talking about mundane things that happened during your day. You saw a cool bird, got some gum stuck on your shoe, and bought a new flavor of toothpaste to try. Everyone is listening intently. If only they would pay this much attention in class.

Lucifer knows the way his brothers look at you all too well. It’s a look full of respect, admiration, and fondness. It’s a look that’s often reflected on his own face when in your presence. At first he never really understood why you put up with his siblings, as the option to ignore them and be on your way was always there. Yet you continue to make time for them anyway. How unusual.

Moments like these where everyone is together and you don’t treat them as the Seven Rulers of Hell, you just treat them as your dear friends and family. That’s what makes Lucifer soft. He tries to imagine a long future of things staying just like this.

Mammon’s hesitant to lend anybody money, even you. It takes a few minutes to butter him up and fluff his ego before he relents. At last, he hands you the crispest bill in his wallet. “Don’t spend it all in one place,” he kids, knowing full well he’d do just that if he was in your shoes.

He’s curious what you plan to buy. It never dawns on him that you have no intention of spending the cash. Half an hour later, he finds it on his desk. The exact same bill, now creased and folded neatly into an origami bird.

He picks it up to wiggle the little paper wings, entranced, then looks around frantically and catches your eye. A playful smile graces your face and tugs at his heartstrings.

Leviathan is not typically one to make mistakes when it comes to anime. But even he’s not perfect.

He had it set in his mind that the new show premiered at 6:00pm, which left plenty of time to prepare the ultimate solo viewing party after school. He was humming quietly to himself when you walked over. “Isn’t your show starting soon?”

You specifically took an interest in his hobbies. You remembered that it started at 16:00 (four o’clock), not 6:00. Leviathan wondered, how could he make such a egregious mistake? You were the one who dashed back to the House of Lamentation at full speed by his side. When your human stamina started failing, he unconsciously picked you up so you’d both make it in time. You made it with two minutes to spare.

Sweaty and out of breath, still in uniform, you were able to watch the premiere together. It wasn’t until after credits rolled, you went elsewhere, and the live reactions on social media started calming down that Levi realized what a big deal this was to him. What a big deal you were to him.

Satan wasn’t expecting you to be spacing out in his favorite armchair. He had plans to read in it that evening, and considered asking you politely to move. But the way the lamp light shines on your skin, the thoughtful expression on your face while pondering ideas unknown. The way your lips part ever so slightly and your eyes gaze off into nothing. It captivates him. You look like a painting. His breath gets caught in his throat, and in clearing it he manages to break your trance.

“Oh, hey. Welcome home, I didn’t realize you were there.”

You go to get out of the chair, but Satan insists you stay. It doesn’t look right without you anymore. He doesn’t feel right without you anymore.

Asmodeus does not have wardrobe malfunctions often. His outfits are of the highest quality and a lot of care goes into putting them on. Still, things happen.

When his fans rush forward out of nowhere, sometimes they are successful in tearing his clothes. A fistful of shirt here, a mouthful of pants-leg there. Being in the center of a lust-fueled stampede can make even the most collected people lose their minds, but you are steadfast. You shout at the rabid demons, shaming them for their disrespect. You believe you can chase them off all on your own, not knowing that the Avatar of Lust behind you is exuding a killer aura and warning his fans to back off with a powerful glare.

As you sloppily stitch up what remains of his shirt so he can walk home without the incident repeating, Asmodeus is smiling from ear to ear. You’re so focused on genuinely helping that you don’t even notice the bedroom eyes he’s flashing. The scene of you waving your arms and trying to chase off a pack of demons as if they were stray pigeons is permanently ingrained in his memory. Just as your existence is ingrained in his soul.

Beelzebub knows what he likes. He knows what will catch his interest and is pleasantly surprised when a new one crops up.

One thing he likes is you. Another is food. Both are in the cafeteria. He piles a tray high with carbs and goes looking for you at lunch time, finding you seated in the middle of a long table at the edge of the room. He calls your name.

It’s unexpected, the way you quickly swing your head up mid-bite. Your cheeks are full and noodles dangle from your mouth, sauce dripping back onto your plate. Your eyes light up as you look at him from below. It makes him stop in his tracks, causing several shorter demons to walk into him. Such a simple action, yet so profound. You hurriedly chew and offer him a seat while Beelzebub powers through his emotions. He takes a seat across from you to offer a napkin, wondering when he’ll see that face again.

It’s late, far past everyone’s bedtime. Yet Belphegor forgot to tell you something during the day and decided now would be a great time. When you don’t respond to the quiet knocks at your door, he lets himself inside. Your sleeping figure looks too comforting to resist and he gets the brilliant idea to crawl into bed with you to whisper in your ear.

The problem is, as soon as he lifts the covers, you fart. It’s loud. You don’t move an inch, remaining fast asleep and ignorant of what just happened.

Belphegor freezes in his tracks to process it, but is soon doubled over on the futon laughing. The vibrations wake you. You sleepily open your eyes to see who is in hysterics and ask the obvious: “what?”

Belphegor is laughing too hard to tell you. He doesn’t want to tell you. It’s too priceless. You groggily smack him with a spare pillow and it makes him laugh harder. While he loves to look at you, that week it becomes difficult for him to meet your eyes without erupting into a fit of giggles.

A lot of Ukrainians (me included) feel like we're talking into the void. We share news about war and current genocide, talk about our history and culture, about all the opression we lived through because of russia, russian colonialism, etc. Every single question you could possibly have about Ukraine is probably answered by multiple Ukrainians on social media already. But it seems like all of this is being shared only between Ukrainians and those foreigners who already know all those things, the people who need to learn about it won't see it. Something educational about Ukraine goes viral, you check reposts - Ukrainians and people who already engage with Ukrainian activism, no regular people who know nothing about Ukraine or "war is being shoved down our throat" crowd or whataboutists.

Y'know, sometimes you don't realize just how mean you are to yourself until you look back.

I'm not sure how people who don't write or journal would figure it out; I was rereading some self-insert stuff I wrote but never shared (and probably never will share), and through the mouthpiece of another character I wrote many things putting myself down, even after I was supposedly in a better mindset. I understood I was being mean to myself, that was the point; but I'm not sure I really understood how much so. It didn't feel it at the time, again bc I was "better."

And just, if I were to look at it overall...it kinda makes me sad, y'know? That I felt that way about myself enough to belittle myself about it by proxy and not realize it. Feeling better takes time, I know now, and progress is not always obvious, or finished quite as soon as we think, apparently.

idk if this is accurate but i’ve felt like in previous seasons riz & gorgug have been one of the inter-bad kids dynamics we’ve seen the least of & this season has been so great in that aspect. gorgug having helped make some of riz’s magic gear. riz helping gorgug with his studies. the shared birthday party. gorgug’s gift to riz being something he himself made to protect riz. riz’s gift to gorgug being something he illegally grabbed to protect gorgug. gorgug who utilizes rage to put his body on the line for his friends & riz who will take deep levels of mental stress for his friends. even though it was within the context of a joke, riz calling gorgug an “absolute sweetie.” like yea they might not be in a band together or both part of a presidential campaign team or owlbears teammates, but they’d go to war for each other, because they’re best friends.

The envy Arthur and Lancelot would have had for each other must have been insane.

Because Merlin is secretive with Lancelot. He tells him things he would never tell Arthur, he opens up to him and Arthur knows he can never have that trust. Never have that closeness not while he’s king and Merlin a servant.

But to Lancelot he’s been secretive about protecting Arthur. It all resolves around Arthur, opening up about protecting Arthur, giggling over using magic to please Arthur. Lancelot knows it will never be him on the other side of the devotion not like this.

just like he will never be Gwen’s because she loved him once yes but at the end of the day it’s Arthur she chooses.

and in Arthur’s eyes Lancelot is Gwen’s first love will always be known as such and will always be looked at as such even if she loves him she loved Lancelot first and Arthur can’t help but think if she could have him she would.

Anyway I’m so sane about them and at the end of the day how they still understand why it’s like this because they would choose the other as well.
