Do you maybe have any stevetony fanfic recommendations?

why, yes, i do! to be fair, i haven't read any stevetony fics in over a year, but i still have my ao3 bookmarks and my old marvel blog haha. also, just a warning before anything else: i'm a big, big fan of angsty fics, so, yeah.

my absolute favorite piece of writing in the marvel fandom is the series what we share (and what we hide) by @machi-kun. the 1st part is set right after CACW, before IW, from steve’s POV, and the 2nd part is still a work in progress, post-IW, from tony’s POV. despite it not being finished, i can't recommend it enough. just trust me. you haven't seen writing like this.

Hating Steve Rogers: my second favorite piece of writing. the angst in this one gave me butterflies.

An Infinite Number Of Monkeys At Typewriters (Or, Steve and Tony Finally Get It Right): After the events of Civil War, Tony and Steve wake up in bed next to each other in an alternate universe. It goes about as well as you’d expect it to.

Lost With You (Might Be All I Need): Tony and Steve fall through a portal just after defeating Thanos and his army. Stranded in another dimension, the two have to finally face what happened—and what could have been.

All Roads Lead To: After Obadiah’s betrayal, Tony hides in the depths of the Midwest to become a mechanic. The Avengers come into his life anyway.

The Jar: The Avengers are ridiculously competitive people, and what starts out as a silly late-night team discussion quickly becomes a contest: their names. Not the code names – the nicknames. Who can go the longest without using them?

Lost Together: Being trapped in a horrible world where some things are like home, and some things are terrifyingly not, is bad enough. But when it becomes clear that the people here come in pairs - and unpaired people are a threat - Steve and Tony are forced to pretend that they’re a pair too, if they ever want to make it home alive.

Binary System: Tony tends to be tactile with people he trusts. These days that list of people includes Steve, which is a good sign of the progression of their friendship.

Stick With Me, Baby, I’m the Fella You Came in With: During the final battle with Ultron, Tony kisses Steve for the first time. Afterward, he makes it clear to Steve that he was just running on adrenaline and not thinking clearly. (this whole series is AMAZING, tbh)

Take Care, I’m Easily Broken: Tony isn’t the type of person to pine quietly.

Someone to Love: What does it matter that it’d been because of Loki and his damn magic? He’d fallen in love with Steve once. He can do it again.

Take Two: Steve loses his memory but he gets the feeling he’s lost a lot more. Who exactly is Tony Stark to him and why won’t he come out of the basement? (AMNESIA AU, i can’t scream this loudly enough)

Love’s Such an Old-Fashioned Word: Steve gets the very brilliant idea that he and Tony should date, but Tony needs some convincing.

Rebirth: this is the 1st part of a series. if you really like angst, i strongly recommend this one. the comment i wrote in my bookmark for this is literally “WHOEVER YOU ARE, YOU ARE NOT READY FOR THIS ANGST” lmao (unfortunately, the 2nd part is not as good, but that’s another issue).

"The… party, sir?" Cody had that sinking feeling again. "Oh right!" Skywalker said, and then leapt up onto a crate to address the gathered men. "Alright troopers, consider yourselves on leave for the next 30 hour rotation!" he shouted, to cheers from the men. "Now," at that, he dramatically ripped his tunics open. Rex made a choking noise next to Cody’s ear. "LETS FUCKING PARTY!" They're all going to die, Cody thought.

An early book, before I really got the process down, so the first cover was wrong but the second worked out. I hadn’t gotten my Cricut yet so the numbers were made with my Stampin’ Up set, and the rest of the title is my label maker.

This is the story I learned to book bind for. This is so much fun, just some big belly laughed and delicious scenes with some good character exploration. Ugh, I just love this. Obi-wan and Anakin are just completely unhinged, Ahsoka is getting so much love, Rex is having the time of his life, the chat is getting the BEST gossip, and Cody is having an AWAKENING! It is amazing, go read it, and read the whole series!

A Most Elegant Dinner Party

"You're not… cooking, are you?" asked Obi-Wan warily. "No! Of course not!" she said cheerfully, dusting her hands off on the apron she was wearing. "You know I'm not allowed to cook Obi-Wan, don't be ridiculous."

Printed with the first story, I wanted to have them match so I did a blue cover with the colorful detail. The wine glass is from, again, Stampin’ up and the title is with the label maker.

This one builds on the previous in the best way. We’re going to a dinner party with a bunch of ridiculous people. It goes nicely, but it’s ENLIGHTENING. It’s lovely, it’s spicy, funny, and just a great time. GO READ IT!

Commander Fox is Completely Fine

Cody was still staring at him. Fox wasn't sure what made him keep talking. "It's always the shinies who think they're invincible," he muttered, "who think they're above the rules." Cody nodded slowly. "Yeah," he said, voice a little hoarse, "that's usually how I lose them too." Fox watched as his little brother finished the rest of his drink and stared down into his empty cup. It wasn't the same, he wanted to say. That's a battlefield, this is the centre of the Republic, it's different. The truth is that it's not as different as it should be.

Gave myself a minor heart attack taking pictures of this one as I was STILL READING IT BUT CHOOSE TO MOVE THE BOOKMARK ANYWAY; terrifying. Just a typical galaxy fabric cover. The cover image is the Coruscant logo I used my Cricut to get out, and I am very proud; except for that mess near the bottom, I’m still learning how to work with vinyl. The spine image and page breaks are alternate versions of the Coruscant Guard logo.

Contrary to what the title says, Fox is not Okay, but he gets better. This is all the year or so leading up to 30 Hours, the first book, and everything going wrong. It hurts a lot, but it’s also really freaking GOOD! We meet some amazing original and canon characters, have some profound conversations, lots of humor, lots of spice, and just an amazing read. This not only lives up to the standard the first two books set, but surpasses it. Please, please, please, go read this series and tell Maddy_B how amazing she’s doing.

There’s also several shorts to enjoy and another long story featuring REX! Our favorite blond captain is getting his own story, with a hunky Jedi for himself, but he’s got to suffer first.

That Douchebag Steve Harrington (E) - The Hargroves come to Indiana one year early. The town of Hawkins is all abuzz about its first missing persons case in decades, but all Billy cares about is figuring out how much Steve Harrington really wants to date the stick-in-the-mud Nancy Wheeler and whether he can stop that from happening.

so many ways to talk about longing (M) - Steve wakes up--in a pool lounger--to Billy Hargrove looming over him. Billy pushes his sunglasses down and Steve thinks sleepily that it must be so that Steve gets the full impact of Billy’s narrow-eyed glare. “Harrington,” Billy says. “We’re fucking closed.”(or, three times Billy doesn't let Steve touch the radio and one time he kind of does).

Take Me with U (E) - Billy bobbled a bit as he stood to mind the fire on unsteady legs. He tripped over his own feet then flopped back on his ass, his back pressed to Steve’s legs, laughing, face flaming with embarrassment. Steve threw his other leg over Billy’s shoulder, his calf pulling Billy back for a moment. “You gotta serve your penalty now. Too drunk. Two minutes in the box, Hargrove. Stay put.”

Billy wrapped his fingers around Steve’s ankle, on top of his jeans. “That’s what I get for trying to be light on my feet like you.”

“Callin me light in the loafers?”

“I’m callin you a pussy.” Billy’s hand remained on Steve’s ankle. His back was still pressed against Steve’s shin, and his fingers started to drift under the hem of Steve’s jeans -- touching a small bit of skin underneath. Maybe he should not be doing this. Maybe Steve wouldn’t like it.

But the moment Billy shifted forward, Steve tugged Billy back into place with the leg that was flung over Billy’s shoulder -- pulled Billy’s back tight against Steve’s leg. “Stay.”

i hear the secrets that you keep (when you’re talking in your sleep) (T) - Billy’s there the way that he’s a lot of places nowadays, sort of absent-mindedly, like he’s not sure how it happened or why and is going somewhere else in his mind anyway.

Steve watches him more than ever now, and Billy rarely watches back.(or five times billy really needed some sleep, and one time he needed something else entirely)

i'll carry you home (E) - It’s been five days since they left Hawkins. They ride through meadows and woods, chasing the taste of freedom, stealing kisses, and pushing on as they get closer and closer to their happy ending.

Around Venice and Santa Monica, skaters take advantage of the empty pools, breaking into backyards to skate like no one has before. When Billy Hargrove—a skater who splits his time between his job at a surf shop and skating with his sister, Max—breaks into Steve Harrington's backyard, it might turn out to be the best thing he’s ever done.

I'm a Rebel Just for Kicks (T) - Steve couldn't believe he was having to spend his Saturday with his ex-girlfriend, her new boyfriend, his friend-turned-pain-in-the-ass, and Billy fucking Hargrove. Steve couldn't think of a group of people he'd like to spend less time with than them. Hopefully, the next six hours won't be too bad.

With Your Long Blond Hair and Your Eyes of Blue (M) - Billy leans back and sweeps his hands through his hair, gathering it back from his face and any danger of dipping into the food. Steve watches, frozen to the spot as he produces a tie from his pocket and secures it all up in a messy bun at the top of his head. Steve’s entire world stops moving.

hello anonie! i guess i can say i’ve read at least a good 80% of all the fics, at least. probably. most likely because the fic tag at the start of the year was tiny and now the community’s grown so much there’s almost 600 of them. that’s insane to me. like hello?

i have a lotta fics that come to mind, that i should honestly make a master post on because i love them all. so here are a few many that came to mind immediately as i typed this up.

Utahime slowly lifted her arm, already planning on throwing the thing back in Gojo’s annoying face. Gojo gets Utahime a very special kind of souvenir. Set during the start of the Goodwill arc.

Oh are we talking about AO3 vs Tumblr? Here we goooo

-censorship is not a thing on AO3, any tags you want to use, not only can you use them, you SHOULD use them, its important for both those that want to find your fic and those that want to avoid your fic, its like a consent thing, people cant fully consent to the stuff in your fic if its incorrectly tagged

-theres multiple ways to keep track of a fic. Bookmarks, subscriptions, the history and "mark for later" features, or just hoarding the links if you dont want any of that

-when you've written and posted multiple fics its easy to keep track of interaction, I personally like to keep all the comments on my fics unmarked in my inbox (you can mark and unmark whenever you want as much as you want, its not permanent) along with the author replies to my own comments on fics, right now my inbox is 794 comments big. Outside of the inbox there's also the statistics page for all of your fics both individually and together, where you can see the number of views (hits), comments, bookmarks, subscriptions, and likes (kudos)

-on Tumblr if you have a multichapter fic you have to link each chapter together via editing, on AO3 you just have to add a chapter and its there, even if you don't mark it as a multichapter fic you can go back and change that whenever you want, you can also mark down the number of expected chapters, even if they're not posted, so it'll look like "4/18", or "4/?" From the reader side of things, navigating multichapter fics is pretty easy on AO3 (it can be easy on Tumblr too if each individual chapter is linked, but that's from extra effort on the writer's part), there's a drop down list so you can select a specific chapter and jump to that no matter where you are in the fic. When something old is updated and I need a refresher on what happened I go to the chapter before the latest update and reread that, then go to the next chapter to see the new stuff, its a good system

-a series is easy to keep together, when you're posting or editing theres an option to mark it as part of a series, where you either select from the series you've already made in a drop down list, or just type in the title of a new series and boom, that title is a new series. Very easy, no fussing over links, if you ever want to change the order of fics its very easy to do, you just go into the "series" page of your profile and there's a "reorder series" button up the top

-a Tumblr specific issue is that when you edit something, it wont affect any reblogs that had already happened, your typos can haunt you to the end of eternity. Obviously thats not a problem on AO3 (thank god, because I go back to fix things frequently)

-since AO3 isn't a social media site where the algorithms have full control and old things are pushed to the back of the line, the only way time can ever affect the popularity of your fic is if someone is going through the tag with it sorted by the date it was updated/posted, which is the default, yes, but not the only option. There is also a cultural issue of people from social media treating it like social media, where its "inappropriate" to comment on something old, which is absolutely ridiculous to me, but its not an entirely universal belief so you will still occasionally get comments on something that is 5+ years old

There's a lot more benefits to AO3, but I think these are the big ones for me

Fandoms I’ve Written In: 911 and a teensy bit MCU

Looking Back, Did You Write More Fic Than You Thought You Would This Year, Less, Or About What You’d Expected?: Waaaaay way way more. I have never ever written this much for anything. And given as I had never seen an episode of 911 before May of this year, didn’t exactly expect that at all. (but omg how I love them 😭)

What’s Your Own Favorite Story Of The Year?: So hard to pick because they’re all pretty different? My Heart series was a complete labor of love and an unintentionally massive love letter to all of Buddie fandom (and their story up through s4) because the sniper incident was what got me into the fandom. So of course this story is very special. I am still not sure how I wrote 137K in four months. still over here going hOOWWW????? I am also very very fond of The Aftermath of Liberation and Love Confessions. Who doesn’t love sassy petty Eddie?

Did You Take Any Writing Risks This Year?: idk just writing in general and pushing myself to stay with it? Which isn’t really a “risk” per se but putting anything out there kind of is? I also like to play around with prose in general. I think it’s fun, especially in moments where a character is completely out of it or blindsided by something, to make the narration more poetic or lyrical? With repetitive lines or lack of punctuation and things like that.

Do You Have Any Fanfic Or Profic Goals For The New Year?: I do have a few series to finish. I was going to work on my alternate canon s2 Buddie series during hiatus but then I got started with a post 5a fic of pain (I’m fixing them I promise we’re working on ittttt) that I’m really enjoying and I’m really excited about what’s coming up in the next chapter. Also, I have to finish Bannerella at some point because I’ve been working on it off and on for almost 10 years and it’s just ridiculous at this point.

Most Popular Story Of The Year?: Technically? Based on kudos, it’s Plus or Minus, which I sort of figured might be the case? It was an idea that a lot of people seemed to theorize about (T*yKay gets a job offer and asks Buck to go with her) but I hadn’t seen any fics about it where that was the whole premise? (Totally could have missed them. So sorry if I did!) So I think it got quite a bit of traction just because people wanted to see that play out. But if we’re being honest, I think it’s one of if not my weakest piece. I do love the two scenes with Eddie (and Christopher) and the whole Eddie stress cleaning because it’s apparently A Thing lol. But overall, I’m still pretty meh about it. *insert shrug emoji* However, if we go by some responses and reactions that I received, I’d say Aftermath (and even my What I Did for Love fic) seem more popular to me. Though if we go by number of bookmarks, it’s my Heart series.

Story Of Mine Most Under-Appreciated By The Universe, In My Opinion: Okay, I’m going to ramble here because I think I either didn’t summarize this one very well or I posted it too late and people were over Halloween, but I really really loved, In the Darkest Time of Year, and I swear basically no one read it. It’s kind of like Aftermath in that it’s sort of a holiday fic? But not really? It’s also an Eddie POV story in which we are tormented by repression and go through a whole Halloween shift of spookiness and emotions to get Eddie to confess his feelings. The goal was to really break him down and threaten him with losing Buck forever if he didn’t come to terms with everything he’s been holding in.

There are sweet scenes with Eddie and Hen working together and being friends! (and I wanted them to have that whole sexuality conversation without being super straightforward about it?) and there’s mutual pining and longing with Buck, and not one but TWO scenes of Eddie vs T*ylor ethical conflict snarky fighting showdowns (including one right in front of Buck 👀) plus it all has this maybe magical realism, maybe mental breakdown hallucination sort of things that I thought gave it an interesting twist. Also has the tragic gay cheerleaders 😭 and I had a lot of fun hinting at these mythological figures and giving them personalities. Oh plus??? I somehow got into making it a kind of Orpheus/Eurydice type story only the twist is that Eddie is Eurydice because Buck pulled him from death, but they’re both still stuck in that moment of the sniper shooting so Eddie worries that he will be trapped in death and the underworld.

Anyway! I would love you forever and ever if you went and checked it out!

Most Fun Story To Write: Hands down. Aftermath of Liberation and Love Confessions. Snarky sassy petty Eddie! Buck getting roasted for the lame T*yKay love confession! Ravi being adorable! A couple super fun OCs who were inspired/based on my late grandparents. Oh, and let me tell you that Buddie kiss? Was one of my favorites to write. Also, I didn’t get to do this for a couple of fics where I think it needed it? But I got to slow down the ending for this and give them some time to figure things out. Which meant you got to see them be cute and together after their big confessions and I really liked that.

Most Unintentionally Telling Story: Also, Aftermath. Eddie’s whole confusion about defining his sexuality and his coming out scene. I feel that so hard. demisexual!Eddie my beloved 😭 Plus, obviously the two OCs (Larry and Patricia) are very special to me. It was fun bringing them back to life in a sweet, ridiculous, silly way. All the love confessions, too, and having everyone essentially tell their own love stories hit very close to home because every single one is inspired by my own wife and how much I love her and how important she is to me.

Biggest Disappointment: I think I already rambled too much about that lol. But In the Darkest Time of Year

Biggest Surprise: Writing this much at all? Falling so hard for this pairing and their little family and weirdly identifying so much with both of them but in different ways? Also, I am still surprised by the reaction I received to Aftermath. I wasn’t sure people would like it! But it was so much fun to write and I loved it so so much. So, if anything, I’m very grateful people loved it :)

My Favorite Part Of Fandom This Year: Oh gosh. I’ve been enjoying all the amazing writers and meta-ers and gif makers and artists! You are all so incredible and so talented and I adore all of you. Also, I have to agree with @reallysmartladymariecurie because I joined the fandom between 4x13 and 4x14 and omgggggg was that wild. I’ve met such kind and wonderful people who just amaze me every day with their friendliness and enthusiasm and I just really love all of you. It’s been a long time since I was so excited about a fandom and it’s largely because of all of you. 💕💕💕💕�� Giant hugs and love for you all! 🤗💕

I’m going to add a few here, too because they just need to be mentioned!

Most Memorable Scene to Write: There are some scenes from Heart of Flowers/Heart of Gold that I just really lovelovelove and feel they had to have happened in canon in some form but we just didn’t get to see them. But the one that really sticks out to me is basically a 4x04 addition where Buck goes to Eddie and Christopher’s after the “love me anyway” dinner with his parents and has a breakdown in the key of, “what did I do wrong/why can’t anyone love me.” And his boys smush him in a hug and snuggle him. It’s still one of my all time faves. Also? When Eddie’s parents call and not only does he get to tell them off but he has to argue that he (and Christopher) deserve love? Oh, that was fun.

Favorite Kiss: The overall story is still in progress, but I think the beginning can still be a standalone. So, if you want to know my all time favorite Buddie kiss that was just the most fun? It’s from Reset the Clock. Also the love scene near the end of Heart of Flowers/Heart of Gold is 👀👀👀👀 just saying.

20. Hi! First of all, thank you for helping me find so many nice fics! You literally save me at my hour and a half long commute to work [😊]

Secondly, I have a fic I want to find that despite all of my efforts remain hidden and I wondered if you or one of your followers could help. What I remember from it is that wwx dies, but his body is placed in a glass coffin or something in the burial mounds. The years pass and even though he is dead his body remains preserved in the glass until one day he comes back. And I think he comes back when the entire cultivation society is gathered by his coffin for some reasonable or other. It's very vague but it's all I remember!
