When Eddie moved to the city, it was with big dreams.
Get an apartment, get a job, and play any and every gig that came his way. Every open mic, every last-minute substitute guitar, every weekend the whole band could come up from Hawkins to play a bar gig.
It's difficult, and a little soul-crushing, but exhilarating and everything he could have ever wanted for himself. It isn't long before people start coming to their shows for them, not just because they're the opening act. He lives off the adrenaline, the high, and his never ending love for music.
The day their record deal, through a small but influential metal label, goes through, he's over the moon. He calls Wayne as soon as he finds out, blowing the old man's ears out. Wayne cries for him, so proud of his nephew who made something out of himself, all by himself, despite the odds.
They spend four months in a music-writing frenzy, and it pays off. The album is an instant hit, one of their singles even reaching the more mainstream stations. The tour is announced days after the album drops, and most shows sell out by the end of the day, the rest by the end of the month.
It's amazing, every minute is exactly how Eddie imagined it would be, and the pay day isn't so bad either.
But by the end, it all starts to feel a little...hollow.
Like he had a goal, reached it, and doesn't see anything beyond it. Like it's finished, somehow.
He keeps it to himself, though. They get back, have a small break, and then it's back to the drawing board. The guys are all excited, and he plays his part. He pulls out old notebooks for lyrics when he can't think of any good ones, he pulls out all his best musical tricks, every idea he ever wrote down or got stuck in his head. The jam sessions, at least, never lose their appeal. It will never not be fun to dick off with his best friends and just create.
Their second album does even better than the last.
Critics praise their risk-taking, their nuanced lyrics, and their musicality.
Somehow, all the praise is what breaks the camel's back.
Eddie hates the album, hates how it sounds, hated how it felt to write it. Empty, empty, empty.
The next tour is announced, and Eddie backs out. No one understands it, and he can't explain it. Everything is going as well as it possibly could. Every success has found its way into his lap, and Eddie doesn't want it.
He packs up, and they cancel their impending tour. He tells them not to, that they should replace him and continue living their dream, but they refuse. Eddie can tell they're half convinced he'll be back, that this is just a blip in their careers.
But Eddie knows better.
In the end, Corroded Coffin never comes back. They are remembered as one of the most influential metal bands in history, and fans and critics mourn their short lifespan.
As for Eddie, he finds his way to a mid-sized town on the West Coast where he opens up a small community center for the arts. He finds his purpose in helping kids just like himself find their solace and passion in music, and he finds his heart in a kind man with a troubled son and a love for the guitar.

I took a 6yo boy to his placement and as soon as I got him situated in the back he saw my SpongeBob driver’s license air freshener hanging on my rearview mirror. He asked if that’s really SpongeBob’s driver’s license and I said yeah it’s real. Then he asked where I got it if SpongeBob’s underwater so I told him I wore a helmet like Sandy and stole it from SpongeBob when he slept, and without missing a beat he goes “That’s identity fraud”

the weird schrödinger's emotion that is "that character death was narratively satisfying and emotionally impactful and ultimately the best way to handle their character arc" simultaneously with "noooo but I wanted them to live :( :( :("

I don't usually dabble in realism - but this was a gift for someone very meaningful in my life. And some things just deserve to be painted as they are.

I keep seeing the leather/pleather vs denim jacket poll over and over again with all different sorts of discourse about how there is no plastic-free pleather and like, that's TRUE, there isn't, but honestly I DO think people who don't want to use animal products* also deserve to look cool
and so my suggestion is that y'all google "waxed cotton jacket" or "waxed canvas jacket" plus like, "motorcycle" or whatever style you think is cool, because there's a plastic free leather-look material that is strong and durable and waterproof and doesn't use animal products** AND is plastic free already out there and some of the clothes that you can get made out of it look sick as hell.
*ignoring the fact that most leather is meat by-product that would be going to waste anyway
**except beeswax but if you're going to object to that then honestly there's no helping you
