Hi I have a request! How about a one-shot of Wukong and a female s/o, with Wukong after landing on Sandy’s ship accidentally falls asleep (due to lack of sleep and power drain) while being patched up, latching onto the closest person to him at the moment (s/o) using her as pretty much a teddy bear leaving her stuck with sleepy purrs, coos, and all?
Sorry if it’s a lot😂 😅

➨ Tonight, a dark blue hue painted over the sky, decorated beautifully with fluffy clouds and shining stars as far as the eye can see. The silhouette of the city’s skyscrapers looked like mountains, a nice touch to the landscape view from Sandy’s cargo ship.
➨ You decided to help Sandy with fixing and organising after he finally set the ship after all the damage it had gotten throughout your adventures with MK and the others. Of course, you let Wukong know about your location since he went out on a solo mission that needed to take care of some unfinished business.
➨ As much as you were worried, you trusted Wukong to return safe and sound. Right now, you and Sandy were taking a break, and he decided to brew some tea to relax and have a conversation amongst each other.
➨ “Sandy, this tea tastes amazing! Is this a new flavour?” You spoke, astonished by the wave of delicious flavour overwhelming on your tastebuds. “Yeah, I thought I'd try out something new. I’m glad you like it.” He responded, flattered by your compliment and smiled.
➨ At the moment, you and Sandy are talking about things aside from your adventures and focusing more on other things, such as your love life with Wukong. “So, how’s things with Monkey King?” Sandy questions you, and you respond with a light blush on your face. “Everything’s great. We have been living together for a few months, and everything seems good. He’s on a solo mission now, but I’m sure he’ll come unharm-”
➨ A flash of lightning came bolting down from the sky in the blink of an eye and then crash-landed on the harbour near Sandy’s ship. All of you got frightened by the abruption towards your peace and quiet.
➨ When you and Sandy carefully investigated what came crashing down, it was Wukong, but to your surprise, he looked severely wounded and didn’t seem to be moving. “Wukong!” You were the first to react, came closer to his body, and checked whether he was okay. Turns out he’s still breathing; he’s only sleeping. The injuries must have weakened him so much to the point of exhaustion.
➨ “Thank goodness.” You muttered to yourself and held onto him tightly. “Sandy! Can you lend me a hand?” He agreed and carried Wukong back to the ship, and you prepared First Aid on the couch.
➨ Even though you know Wukong can’t die, it still bothers you when he does reckless or impulsive things that get him into these messes. Sandy told you to take it easy and help him get patched up while he finishes off the ship.
➨ You took out the bandages and disinfectant from the bag and took off his torn-up shirt. Carefully, you wrapped up all the wounds and soothed the bruises around his body. Once you were finished, you placed his head on your lap and let him rest.
➨ You looked down and noticed how adorable he looked when he was sleeping. You smiled as you started petting his hair and scratching his ears before, all of a sudden, you felt him softly purr. That’s when your heart melts to the point you feel like you just fell in love with him again.
➨ He looked like a cat as he moved around you and stretched his arms and legs. Now, both of your hands are on him, and you take this opportunity to caress his tail and see what happens. He began to coo like his baby monkeys and couldn’t help but quietly squeal at such a precious moment.
➨ Then, he moves around the couch and begins to latch onto your body to cuddle in his sleep. As you tried to struggle free, you failed and now became a teddy bear for him to snuggle and nuzzle his furry face on the crook of your neck and his tail hugging your waist.
➨ And just like a cat, you don’t have the heart to move a muscle from the coach. “C’mon Y/N. Don’t leave me.” You heard him talking in his dream, and you must admit it was nice to know your partner loved you even when unconscious.
➨ “Baby, please. Just five more minutes; breakfast can wait.” Again, he muttered into your ear as he tried to shift your body around for him to rest on your chest. You blushed but shrugged it off as you slowly caressed his hair.
➨ You were so glad that Wukong was okay after the solo mission and began to drift off to sleep before hearing his sleepy voice again. “I love you, Y/N.” And finally, he went back to snoring softly. All you did was giggle softly at his words. “I love you too, Wukong.” You gave him a kiss on the forehead and passed out on the couch.
➨ Meanwhile, Sandy watched adoringly at your romantic moments with your partner and decided to do something special for the both of you to see in the morning.
・❥・
➨ The sun shined, and Megapolis roared with life again. You were the first one to wake up from your slumber. And by recalling your night with Wukong, you saw him next to you and sleeping without a care in the world.
➨ As you pat his head, he begins to wake up. “Mornin’ darling. . .Slept well last night?” You softly spoke to Wukong as he groaned, hissing quietly from the injuries but not as much to alarm you. “Hey, Y/N. How’s my sunshine, huh?” You giggled at Wukong when he gave you a kiss on the nose, and that’s when you heard your phone ring.
➨ Both you and Wukong checked, and there were photos of you and Wukong cuddling on the couch, along with the words of, “Sorry, Y/N. I couldn’t help myself; I thought you'd like to have these for keepsake.” By Sandy.
➨ You blushed and hid your face from Wukong while he enjoyed seeing these pictures, but deep down, he was as flustered as you were. “Aw, that’s really sweet, Y/N. C’mere.” He then proceeds to give you several kisses on the kiss as a thank you.

I've see ALOT of LMK angst and I have nothing better to do (cause it's late at night) and I'm not working on my LMK apocalypse au right now sooo-
LMK ANGST HEADCANNONS
Triggerwarning for Violence, Blood, Suicidal thoughts, and other general upsetting topics.
(Feel free to leave yours below. Let's make these characters sad together!)
:D
Tumblr media
Pigsy gets upset when people joke about Wukong being Mk's dad. It's insulting to him, the one that raises Mk since he was so little.
Wukong is someone that craves physically touch but also can't stand it. It stems from all the violence he's been apart of + the crown messed him up alot. He was SUPER uncomfortable with Mk touching him in the beginning. It has to be on his terms if you wanna touch him.
Macaque doesn't have a heart beat anymore.
Because of Macaque never coming back when Wukong needed him, Wukong had no trust that Macaque will come back if they have a argument. He assumes that Macaque is just gone and gets upset about it. Eventually Macaque comes back and realizes Wukong's upset but he doesn't bring it up cause he doesn't know how.
Redson doesn't really understand why his father doesn't seem to like him. He assumed that his dad would be overjoyed to see him again, not how he's acting now.
Mei had many breakdowns because of her grades and the pressure to be a spectacular student.
Pigsy got bullied alot in school for being a pig demon. It wasn't everyone, most people liked him, just a specific group of kids.
To add on to #7, Tang used to beat himself up over not being able to help Pigsy. He HATED seeing Pigsy getting bullied but he knew that if he tried to start a fight he would either get beat because he can't fight or get himself kicked out of school.
Mk gets nightmares of Wukong getting forced into the scroll. Sometimes he wonders what would of happened if Wukong never got out. He usually ends up crying.
The closest thing Sandy ever got to being violent is when one of his cats scared him and he accidently dropped Mo. He cried. Alot. (Mo was fine but he just hates his cats being hurt.)
Sandy still doesn't know Hunstman is dead. He just thinks that Huntsman was scared of him so he never came back. (Guess Hunstmans my favorite and he's dead and i hate it here god dammit.)
No one can say anything about Azure or Azure's death around Wukong because he will get upset. Macaque made a joke one time and Wukong lost his shit. He's still kinda shooken up about it.
Some of the baby monkies recognize Macaque as the one disguised as Wukong that ate the monkey and passed it around. Those monkies REFUSE to be around him. They get violent if they have to be around him.
Nezha wants to see Wukong, Redson, and the others more but his job is so demanding he barely gets to leave.
Wukong physically couldn't be around Tang for long periods of time when they first met. He got more comfortable with him over time but Tang reminded him to much of Tripitaka and he couldn't handle it.
Mei doesn't yell out of anger, like serious anger alot. When she finally yelled at Wukong because of the fire, all Wukong saw was Ao Lie screaming at him. (Stole that headcannon from a friend of mine. Thanks Ainnur you ruined my life.)
Mk brought up the fact that Wukong was willing to put the fire into himself and sacrifice himself, almost certainly killing himself in the process one time. Wukong kinda laughed and just said "Yeah, had to save the world bud. It's a shame Macaque messed up my plan, the world woulda been a little bit more peaceful if me AND Lady Bone Demon died." He wasn't even trying to admit suicidal feelings, he was just being honest. This scared the SHIT out of Mk because Wukong just admitted that he can and will kill himself if he feel he needs too.
Sandy often feels left out of the group and not as important but he doesn't wanna ruin everyone's fun so he stays quiet.
Bai he was ready to die when she was found by the Monkie Gang. She wasn't scared of death anymore.
Bai he was scared of Wukong when they first met face to face. Wukong apologized and explained himself. Over time she got a little more comfortable with him. She understands why he's apologizing but at that point she was so ready to die she didn't care who did it.
Redson wants to be around Sun Wukong again but he doesn't know how to start the relationship again. Same on Wukongs part but he's a bit more forward.
Macaque gets physical in fights fast. Partly cause his fights with Peng, Partly cause of his life before Wukong, Partly cause of Lady Bone Demon. If Macaque thinks a situation will get rough, he'll try to fight but if he thinks he'll lose he'll dip.
Princess Iron Fan unintentionally critiques Redsons's looks all the time. It messes with him alot so he's quite insecure.
Mei feels the need to always be upbeat and cheerful so Mk doesn't sink to far into depression. She can tell when he does this for her but she doesn't bring it up.
Pigsy's worst fear is that Mk won't come back home. The nightmares he's had of this is brutal.
I could make more but I'm sleeeeepppy. I'll make a part two one day though. Leave your own headcannons cause seeing other people break down these characters is so fun.
(How some people think Mk will be in season 5)

A farewell kiss (Oneshot)
Character: ☼ Wukong x Reader
✐ Summary: Wukong stubbornness lead you to danger. You ask for one kiss before you die.
✐ Category: Angst. Romance.
✐ Word Count: 1085
Link to read in AO3: Here.
(This is JTTW Wukong, so you can imagine any Wukong you want to.)
-✐-☼-✐-☼-✐-☼-✐-☼-✐-☼-✐-☼-✐-☼-
It was the last event between you two. It happened long time ago, when everyone were camping at a mountain.
"Wukong! I-I mean... Majesty, would you really consider accepting my courting if I went to that cave with stone fruits to gather some for you to dinner?"
You two had the innocent habit of playing around, competing against each other and challenging one another. Obviously, when you were challenged, things were much more difficult for you than when he received a bet, which made everything more fun in his point of view.
Sometimes the simian would purposely lose those bets you "made him" accept, this would happen when your reward was also interesting to him. Like the countless times when you would compete a race to some point, and he would have to groom your hair if he lost. Wukong would let you have a "heads start", and somehow something in the route would distract him, causing his loss.
Since only you and him were awake to hear the conversation, he promised that yes, he would start going out with you if such gift were delivered.
Normally in this kind of challenges the Tang monk would get in the way saying how cruel it is to take advantage of people's feelings like that, and how he only wouldn't use the crown to lecture the bad monkey because you would cry every time you heard the sage's pain. You didn't want to be the reason why Wukong felt pain, and the monk respected your wishes.
"Really? Will you really start dating me?" - Your voice started to raise with excitement, and that made the people sleeping in the camp start to move.
"Shhhhhh! Yes, this old monkey can assure you that once you came back, I'm going to be your partner or whatever. Just don't take too long, or I'll have to go out look for you. Your king demands your return in 13 minutes, did you hear me?" - Despite the rude speech, his cheeks burned with the thought of you two finally getting together.
It was his manner of saying "Take care of yourself".
You knew him well, he was terrible admitting his romantic feelings since he never felt something like this before, still, it was clear that as time went on the senseless distrust he had about you got turned into a fiery love that he considered difficult to bear.
Wukong always got defensive when anyone else threatened to steal your attention, he hated it when he had to allow you to go off alone to explore any village they passed as your beauty was easily noticed by any citizen with a functioning brain, it was normal for him to have to control his anger, so he wouldn't hurt any idiot who came to flirt with you.
But as you said every time the monkey lost control and said outrageous things to people trying to charm you, "If you're jealous, don't scare others off with bad behavior, just admit that you love me, so you can tell them to go away saying that I'm already yours.".
That always silenced him, his pride spoke louder at these times, if it weren't for this dumb reluctance, things could have been different.
You were smart, but your love for him blinded you at times. You both believed that the cave was safe, not knowing that at night a dangerous creature visited the place.
Rather than getting to check you in 13 minutes, he waited a bit longer wishing for you to win...
"May I have at least one kiss?"
For the first time in the king's life, he experienced the feeling of having his mouth above someone's else lips, as he never thought this was something to be wanted before.
He doomed himself to eternal longing for the softness of that delicate touch.
Helplessly you held your fingers at the side of his face, weak digits that barely did their job in maintaining the man in place, but they could feel the warmth of the thin cascade running through them.
Slowly the thumb brushing against the sage's cheek slid from that position, losing all the heat while it gradually fell.
When the water filled eyes of the warrior got to look at your facade he saw a smile, a gentle and sweet smile, to him that moment was a sad goodbye, to you, it was your first and last kiss, a bittersweet happiness.
Your closed eyelids accompanied by the soft grin brought a vision of peace, it was like the soul were in fact asleep, stuck in a brief dream, instead of living in the realm of the death.
He was alone now.
"Wukong! Where are you?! Did you find our friend?" - The monk cried in the distance.
... His name, he would never hear you calling by his name, ever again.
Wukong remained quiet, feeling stupid for not allowing you to approach him in the way you wanted… In the way he also wanted, but never got the courage to admit.
He wanted to throw up, knowing the reason you got to that cave in the first place. If instead of making those games to be your lover he had admitted his feelings, you would still be alive in his arms.
"... Please, come back. I… I never said to you how I feel..."
Worried about Wukong, Xuanzang commanded his second disciple to go where the older student is supposed to be.
Obeying the master's commands, Bajie went to the top of the mountain and entered its cave. There lying on the floor was the lifeless body of a scary monster, alongside a broken king covered in blood with his lost love in his arms.
"You stupid monkey! Look at what you have done!" - With a broken heart, the pig insulted his older brother.
Wukong remained quiet, only giving a touch in your forehead with his, then sliding his face to give a kiss where he touched earlier.
The pilgrims were obligated to bury the poor victim, they choose a nearby tree that flourished the prettiest flowers to be the place where your gravestone would be. That night, the Earth lost part of their brightness, and the sky gained a new star.
After that, the local population says that every year at the spring is possible to see a sad event. At the top of the highest mountain of that region, next to the oldest tree located there, the Great Sage Equal to Heaven crying at this tiny tomb.

Celestial Crossing (A MoonStone, SWKxChang'e, ship fic): Chapter 5- Double Surprise
This chapter WILL have spoilers for S4! Minor ones.
I have been stuck on this chapter for so long, but it's finally done! I think it's gonna be worth it to see the surprises that are showing up in this one.
AO3 Link.
"So... What do you think?"
Chang'e hummed, chewing slowly with her eyes closed in deep thought. Or at least Sun Wukong hoped she was in deep thought. Her poker face was so much better than he ever could have guessed before really getting to know her.
It felt like ages before she swallowed the bite of food in her mouth, letting out another hum before nodding her head.
"It's... Amazing!" She said, chuckling when Li-Yan chirped in a pattern that mimicked the sounds their mother made. "You're getting much better at baking, Mooncake! MK is going to love this."
"Really!?" Sun Wukong exclaimed with excitement. He had to hold back from spinning around, not wanting to jostle the child in his arms.
"Really," Chang'e assured. "You know I am always honest about my opinions on food. If I say it's good I really think it's good."
It was a genuine moment of basic and simple domestic normalcy. Just Sun Wukong, Chang'e, and their baby Li-Yan in Sun Wukong's lap. They sat in the kitchen, taste testing a new batch of vegetarian desserts that the king wanted to make as a special surprise for MK getting so far in his training. Just making nice little tarts and buns and having a good mid-morning.
It had been a few days since Li-Yan's surprise entrance into the world and they had finally gotten into a bit of a routine. The little one had less trouble staying awake for long periods of time and needed less energy to sustain them-self through the day, so much so that neither parent felt drained enough to immediately need sleep after a feeding session. And true to his word, Macaque had left after that first night once he was certain that Li-Yan would be sustained without assistance.
Nothing could possibly ruin it.
Nothing.
........ of course that was too much to hope for.
They really should have guessed something like this would happen eventually. Or at least Sun Wukong should have. He KNEW Macaque. He KNEW the other monkey demon couldn't resist scheming in some way. He didn't know how to have fun without scheming anymore.
But not even the Monkey King himself could have seen this one coming.
How was he supposed to guess that, before the clock had even struck noon, that the Six-Eared Macaque would stumble out of a sudden (and very shaky) shadow portal in the wall, barely making it half a food out of the wall before immediately face plant
"Uh-"
"Did your friend just die on our kitchen floor?"
"He's not dead!" Sun Wukong yelped quickly, handing over Li-Yan to Chang'e carefully. "I don't think he can even die anymore, man's like a computer virus that just keeps coming back. But..."
He trailed off slowly, moving toward the body in front of them even slower. Macaque was alive, his breathing making his back and chest rise and fall was enough evidence of that, but he was... definitely unconscious.
He would never just lay down like that, not around Sun Wukong. Their relationship had started to mend over time, but Macaque never seemed to relax around the other immortal monkey fully. Understandably so, he supposed.
So this was... off. Disconcerting in a way that the Monkey King couldn't put his finger on.
Then something inside, INSIDE, of Macaque's shadow moved, the top of a very small head peaking out quickly before dipping back inside the darkness cast by the lights overhead.
... he didn't...
"Does he normally have little guys in his shadow?" Chang'e asked. Sun Wukong had a feeling she already knew the answer, however, despite voicing the question.
"Definitely not," Sun Wukong said. Macaque couldn't have... "This is... not no- ... oh. Oh THAT DUMBASS."
"Uh?" Was all Chang'e could say, so surprised by the outburst she couldn't think of something else.
"He copied me! AGAIN!"
“I don't really think that-” Chang'e started, pausing only when she saw the look on her love's face. It was a mix of frustration and concern, something she had only seen on him in very specific circumstances. She wasn't entirely versed on the relationship the two immortals had, though she knew a lot more than most people. She could tell that, as annoyed and not 100% trusting in the other the Monkey King could be... he still held some amount of care for Macaque. “...that is the most pressing matter right now. If he copied you? We can chastise him for it later. For now, we should check and see if he is ok.”
“... you're right,” Sun Wukong said, almost if his mind was elsewhere and it had taken him a couple of minutes to register her words (and by all accounts, that was entirely possible). “But he's OUT. If he hasn't moved by now, listening to me yell, then he is really unconscious.”
“True...” Chang'e said, petting Li-Yan between their ears as she pondered on what to do. “I would say we should let him rest, but if our suspicions are right... it may be best to wake him backup.”
"Maybe if I kick him really hard-"
"Sun Wukong!" Chang'e snapped. "You are not kicking an unconscious man in front of our child!"
"Aww, not even a little?"
"Absolutely not, you cannot be a bad influence on them!"
“Ok, ok!” Sun Wukong said with a hearty laugh. “I wasn't actually gonna do it anyway, no need to literally kick him while he's down. But... hmn... how are we going to wake him up... We could try shaking him or yelling, but I really don't think that's a good idea in this scenario.”
“Do we have anything with a strong scent that you think would work?” Chang'e suggested. “We don't have smelling salt, but maybe there's something else we can use here.”
“Not a bad idea! And I think I know just the thing...” Sun Wukong agreed quickly. Chang'e watched as the Monkey King rushed off and returned just as quickly, with a bottle of peppermint extract. ”With our noses this should do the job well enough.“
”Just as long as you're sure he won't react too violently at the smell,“ Chang'e said with a soft chuckle.
Li-Yan watched on in curiosity, head tilting left and right. Their ears flicked in time with their tail, and the way they moved their head in her arms almost mimicked the way a small rabbit might sniff the air. Hmn...
They WERE made up of parts of her bunny bots, not just the original ones but also parts that Sun Wukong had managed to salvage and put together. It was likely that some of those parts were from some of the person sized robots she used within her mooncake factory. They were built to have sensors that could detect the ”smell“ of things like smoke and and burnt or spoiled mooncakes for safety. Perhaps they worked together with the unintended magic they tapped into to create them to change that...
There was a lot about their little bunkey baby that neither of them knew about.
But there was also plenty of time for them to worry about that later.
For the moment, the two of them kept a watchful eye on the shadow monkey's face as Sun Wukong rolled him onto his back carefully. He looked as if he was merely sleeping, the only way for them to know he wasn't was them seeing him fainting before them earlier. Sun Wukong opened the bottle of peppermint extract and carefully waved it under Macaque's nose. They could have sworn they heard the softest tiny little kitten like hiss from somewhere, but neither could really take any time to focus on that when Macaque suddenly groaned, lifting a hand to attempt to weakly push away the offending odor.
“What the fu-”
“Language,” Sun Wukong said quickly, closing the bottle and putting it in his pocket before carefully grabbing the other's hand. “You can curse all you want when you're NOT around my kid. Let's get you sat up.”
“Aw man...” Macaque groaned and his face fell instantly, not fighting the Monkey King as he helped him sit up with only a little effort. “I feel like I just got hit like a truck.”
“You look like you got punched in the face,” Sun Wukong countered. “Or swapped face masks with a raccoon, with those eye bags you have there.”
“That bad, huh?” Macaque said with a groan, rubbing his eyes in clear exhaustion. “I'd... hoped I wouldn't need to ask for any help actually but I kinda... overestimated things a little.”
“Are you ok?” Chang'e asked, slowly coming around to kneel on the other side of him so she wouldn't just be looking at his back. “Be honest, we can't help you if you lie to us.”
“I mean,” Macaque shrugged, putting a hand behind his back with a flinch as they all heard the soft of a soft hiss once again. They didn't miss how his eyes widened and he looked around in worry. “I'm just exhausted. And hungry. I'm fine outside that.”
“And the thing in your shadow?”
There was the sound of a breathless squeak that escaped from the shadow monkey, not unlike the sound of a deflating balloon.
”That's... uh...“
"What were you thinking?" Sun Wukong asked, face in his hands as fingers gently massaged his forehead. "No, no I shouldn't ask that. WHY WEREN'T YOU THINKING? That's a much better question. You very literally just finished explaining the dangers of this stuff to us a few days ago."
"I was thinking!" Macaque snapped, hand still behind him. "I just... didn't exactly expect what I got?"
"What, exactly, do you have?" Chang'e asked softly. Li-Yan chirped in curiosity, little paw reaching out to wave towards Macaque. “Like I said. We kind of saw something earlier, so you can't exactly hide them from us.”
"OK, don't... just don't spook them, alright?" Macaque said slowly. "They're really, REALLY, shy."
Sun Wukong tilted his head in mild curiosity, but nodded slowly. He could see his wife nodding as well behind him from the corner of his vision. He could also see her eyes widening as Macaque slowly pulled his hand forward, and his shadow... slowly started vanishing before their eyes.
In it's place, once his hand was pulled in front of him, were two very small baby monkeys. They were black with tiny red spots and wide eyes filled with confusion, a little fear, and lots of curiosity. And they were so...
Small.
Barely bigger than a couple of fingers, one easily able to sit in Macaque's palm like a kitten while the other clung to his wrist. Both had their long tails wrapped around whatever part of Macaque's arm or hand they could, and the same small hissing sound escaped from one of them.
Well, that explains that little mystery.
"... ta da?"
”You made TWO of them!?“ Sun Wukong whisper yelled, gesturing to the babies.
“Not intentionally!” Macaque snapped, flinching as one of the babies let out a soft chirp. “No no, shh, I'm sorry that was too loud, uh... They have sensitive ears. Like me.”
"Like their..." Sun Wukong started, trailing off slowly. "Wait a minute..."
"Oh Macaque, you DIDN'T-" Chang'e said.
"Did you. Make two magic babies... without a partner?" Sun Wukong asked slowly. "After you explicitly explained to us that we would need to work together to keep our SINGLE magic baby intact?"
"I already said I didn't make two intentionally!" Macaque insisted. "They just... happened. Like Li-Yan, sort of?"
"They're so small," Chang'e said in awe and concern. "Surely regular macaque babies aren't this tiny."
"No, that's a side effect of the magic," Macaque admitted with a nod. "They probably would have been roughly normal sized if I had used more than I did or they were just one being."
The one sitting in his hand dunked their head behind his fingers, barely peaking out from behind them. The other hissed softly, once again like a feral kitten. Though they didn't actually appear to be that scared... perhaps they were testing the limits of those around them. Both of the other parents couldn't help but notice that the hissing one was slightly smaller than the one hiding themselves away, if only by a little bit.
Then the larger one let out a yawn, stretching out one of their hands.
"They have little beans," Chang'e said with wonder. "They have toe beans on their hands!"
"I also have beans on my hands," Sun Wukong muttered softly.
"So do I, Wukong, you ain't special," Macaque muttered back in turn, carefully pressing on the soft paw pads on the palms of the child as he grabbed their hand between his fingers oh so gently. It was the most gentle motion Sun Wukonhg had ever seen the other make in all their lives together. "They're so... SOFT."
"They're brand new," Sun Wukong said with a shrug. "Of course they're... HOW new are they? Don't tell me they were literally were born literally yesterday, please tell me they're older than that."
The lack of answer and the way Macaque quickly tightened his mouth into a thin line as he looked away told hem both everything they needed to know.
"They're only a DAY old?" Chang'e whispered in concern.
"I hate being right... Macaque..." Sun Wukong said slowly. He took in a deep breath, brushing his hair back with a sign. "OK... ok ok ok...Can you please explain why I just happen to be looking at what appear to be 2 brand-new born monkeys and how, exactly, we got here?"
"Who also seem to be made out of your shadow," Chang'e chimed in.
"Yes, that too," Sun Wukong agreed with a nod. "I'm all ears."
"... I wasn’t copying you this time-"
"Lies!"
"I'm not lying!" Macaque snarked back instantly. "I'd... I'd wanted to do this for a while. That's actually how I knew what you did. I'd already looked into it for me."
"How long is a while?" Sun Wukong asked in suspicion.
"... 3 centuries, give or take?"
"3 c-THREE centuries?" Sun Wukong balked, blinking with his mouth agape for a moment. "You planned them for THAT long and you STILL... What?"
"This wasn't supposed to go this way!" Macaque half explained. "I thought I genuinely had everything planned out perfectly, I don't know how THEY happened. I've never actually seen a single person bring two of them about before. I didn't even think it was possible."
"Well..." Sun Wukong said with a shrug. "You're the 6 Eared Macaque. Maybe that has something to do with it."
"Why don't you just... start at the beginning?" Chang'e suggested softly. "Walk us through your planning and what you thought would happen, not from the other day but waaaaaay back."
The change in Macaque's demeanor was slow. First even more tense, then like he was considering the offer, and then he finally relaxed with a sigh before he nodded.
"... You remember how I would always help out with the little ones on the mountain? I'd always loved taking care of kids," Macaque started. "Didn't matter if it was the monkeys on the mountain or the humans that Azure got us to help. I always had a weak spot for making sure the little ones were ok."
"Yeah, I remember that you used to keep them occupied with little shadow puppets back then," Sun Wukong admitted.  "Especially the duck ones."
"Kids LOVE ducks," Macaque said with a sage nod.  “It honestly wasn't hard to make sure they were entertained while the adults around them cleaned up or did work or whatever else was needed. I'm pretty sure Peng thought it was funny that I was constantly volunteered to be a ”glorified babysitter“, but the one thing I'll give Azure is that he knew I liked it. That's why he always had me take on that job.”
“Wait,” Chang'e said slowly, tilting her head a bit in thought. “By Azure and Peng... do you mean the Azure lion and Golden Winged Peng?”
“Yeah,” Sun Wukong answered for Macauque with a nod. "The four of us were in a Brotherhood together with YellowTusk Elephant and DBK, remember?”
“I thought those names sounded familiar," Chang'e said with a nod. “I didn't get to hear a lot during the banquets I was able to go to in the Celestial realm back then, but it was hard to miss the talk of Celestial warriors who had decided to remain in the mortal realm and started fighting along side the Monkey King himself.”
“I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you heard about all that,” Macaque said with a nod. “Even if you could only go to banquets on occasion I imagine that we all caused a LOT of trouble for everyone up there.”
Sun Wukong chuckled at that, looking more than a little smug at the memory for a moment before a softer expression overtook his face. If his companions didn't know him as well as they did they might not have recognized it as the melancholic look it was. As if the weight of all that they had done in the past had suddenly crashed down on him in an instant.
But the moment was gone as quickly as it came, the sage nodding at Macaque to continue.
“You know how the story went,” Macaque continued. “We fought the Celestial realm, got kicked in the teeth, Monkey King got trapped under a mountain, journey west, so on and so forth. Got revived, headed on my way after ditching LBD.”
There was a noticeable tension in Sun Wukong’s shoulders at the mention of HER.
It was clear there was a lot that Macaque was glossing over, but neither adult wished to press the matter. Not when they already knew the outcome of those details. Chang'e had already been filled in on what she needed to know before, that Macaque had died and been revived by the Lady Bone Demon and had been running from his obligation to work for her and bring her back. She knew that, somehow, he had lost his life in a fight with her husband.
The details weren't necessary when the two of them clearly had been trying to move past it, had already accepted what had happened and were mending the rift between them.
“And you just... happened to find out about how to make magic children on the way?” Sun Wukong asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Kinda?” Macaque said with a shrug. “It's not like I set out looking to have a kid, I was on the run and didn't know when I wouldn't have to worry about a certain lackey anymore. Turns out he was never looking for me to begin with, after I ditched the skeleton key... but that was probably because she'd told him about her ”destiny“ predictions and he knew it wasn't time to act.”
“Sooooo, where to the magic kids factor in again?”
"I'm getting there!" Macaque said with a huff. "She said to start at beginning and I have a flair for the dramatic, give me a break."
Sun Wukong would have said something snappy back, he really would have. That had been his relationship with Macaque since the defeat of Lady Bone Demon. Macaque says something snarky and he snapped back and they exchanged barbs back and forth for a while.
But then he saw how the little twins, held so softly in the hands of the shadow monkey, were so curiously patting at each other's faces. As if trying to memorize each other. And how Macaque watched them with so much softness in his eyes.
"OK, I won't interrupt anymore,“ Sun Wukong said with a nod.
That was a lie. But he would make an ATTEMPT not to.
”Thank you... now... Oh yeah,” Macaque readjusted himself, making himself comfortable as he continued. “When you spend a lot of your life as a wanderer you start to hear things a lot more and you pick up on patterns. You hear the same stories, you notice people doing similar things miles apart from each other. That's how I first heard the tales of these magic constructs, these children that those unable to bear their own children would create in the hopes they could have a family.”
Both other adults nodded, encouraging the other to continue as they listened with genuinely rapt attention.
"It wasn’t hard to find some of the sources of these tales once I knew where to ask," Macaque answered with a shrug. "It wasn’t like I had much else to occupy my mind at the time. This was YEARS before I started on my “let's find the Monkey King and try to take vengeance every few years” thing, so I didn't really have any idea of what I even wanted to do with my renewed life. I just existed. I didn't know what to do with myself at all.“
"So you just gravitated toward the stories?" Chang'e prompted.
"Sorta," Macaque answered. "It really started when I tried to settle down in a village for a while actually. There was this older couple who was really well known by everyone who had been trying to have kids for years but it just never worked out for them. Then one day... Boom. Kid."
"Just... suddenly kid?" Sun Wukong asked.
"One day they had no kid, the next day?" Macaque continued. "Kid. Not quite a new born, but not more than a few weeks old. And clearly not made from traditional means, which the couple didn't even bother trying to hide. They actually kind of bragged about how well what they tried out worked. And the villagers were so happy for them."
"Sounds like a very accepting place you sound," Chang'e mused softly.
"It was. I just... seeing all those people around that kid, proclaiming it as a miracle... something just clicked in my head. I thought, "heck, I can do that", so," Macaque said with a shrug. "I started looking around, asking questions. I may have gotten a job at a nursery-"
"You worked in a NURSERY!?"
"YOU SAID NO MORE INTERRUPTING."
"YOU WORKED WITH BABIES."
"YOU SAY THAT LIKE YOU EXPECTED ME TO EAT THEM!"
"BOYS!" Chang'e interrupted, voice loud and firm but not quite a shout. "You're scaring the kids."
Sun Wukong and Macaque instantly froze, not realizing they had fallen so easily into their usual bickering. Both bristled, fur sticking up as they realized the mistake they had made as they looked down.
Macaque's twins were no longer holding onto him as they were before, one ear pressed into his arm while another had let go to cover the other. Li-Yan, meanwhile, was pressed into Chang'e, little ears pointed back and their face plate displaying only a !? in place of their usual face display.
"No no no, shhh," Macaque said, being the one to jump into action first. He covered the twins with his hand gently, chirping soft assertions of comfort to them. "I'm sorry, daddy's sorry, shhhh..."
Sun Wukong jolted, hands already gently petting Li-Yan's ears in an attempt to do much the same comforting, Macaque's words making all this feel much less bizarre and much more real than it had before.
Macaque was a father now.
... that was not something that the Monkey King had ever expected to acknowledge, even in the times long ago. Long before their falling out, long before even the brotherhood days.
"... what made you stop?" He asked carefully, taking Li-Yan from Chang'e to hold them in his own lap for a moment. "With everything you know about the process you must have been doing research for a long time."
"Years," Macaque admitted. "I wanted to know everything about this particular process, how wide spread it was and what different methods there were. It's extremely uncommon, but not taboo. Just difficult, and with easier ways to do the same thing around, like the river in the women's country, most people would opt to try something different first. I left that village after a few decades so people wouldn't question why I never aged. I tried to pick it back up after... after the first time I came after you. And I did, for a while. But the desire for revenge kept taking over and distracting me. Then... I saw our Not Mayor again."
"He was trying to get you to pay back your debt?" Chang'e asked.
"No. He just.. was smirking at me. Like he was planning something, or sending me a warning. Knowing the Lady Bone Demon was close to coming back just... made me give up," Macaque finished with a shrug. "I didn't see the point in trying after that. It was too dangerous to try knowing she could send me on the run at any moment. And then I uh... heard you got a successor."
"And we know the story from there?" Sun Wukong chanced slowly. "Outside of some of your motivation."
"More or less," Macaque said with a shrug. "Anything I haven't told you about that isn't relevant to these two."
"Why did you make two babies, though?" Chang'e asked softly, concern laced in her tone. "You were almost completely drained by them feeding on your essence when you came to us."
The way Macaque immediately clamped his mouth shut and looked away told Sun Wukong that there were only two options. And one he was certain was less likely because Macaque knew how to plan ahead.
"Oh my gosh it was-" "CEASE." "- an accident." "SHUT UP!"
Sun Wukong couldn’t help it. He TRIED to stop. Really he did. But...
"Stop laughing at me you asshole!"
"La-ha-ha-language!" Sun Wukong barely managed to wheeze out between laughs. He carefully placed Li-Yan on the floor between them, the little one looking up at him with a confused chirp as he double over in laughter. "Sorry, I'm sorry, it's just... the fact you decided to finally have a kid because WE had a kid and then you wanted that kid so bad you accidently magicked up TWO kids is. KINDA FUNNY. You... you failed successfully!"
It took no time at all for the Monkey King to fall to the floor again, trying his best to hold in his laughter at Macaque's accidental super success at baby making.
"You're lucky there are children here or I'd kick your-"
"Can we please stop cursing in front of the babies?" Chang'e said, firm and a small lilt of frustration edging into her tone. "And maybe try to work out how Macaque is going to take care of two children? Li-Yan alone is enough to drain us a lot, and it's probably not healthy or safe for you to constantly pass out because they need to sustain themselves."
"... ah, yeah," Sun Wukong said after a moment, staring at Macaque with realization. "That's why you just kinda. Face planted on our floor, isn't it? You can't feed them at the same time. It's not sustainable for you."
"It is!" Macaque protested. "I just... need some assistance afterwards..."
"That's one way to put it," Chang'e said, matching her partner in tone for the first time in their conversation. "Look... You helped is out. A LOT. And clearly you need help now. So, whatever you need? We'll help you."
"You will?" Macaque asked, staring at Chang'e with a sideways glance. "I mean, I kinda expected you to because you kinda owe me, but I also expected you to... I dunno. Need convincing."
"We're not the Lady Bone Demon, Mac," Sun Wukong said after a moment. "Even if you hadn't helped us? We would still have helped you just because you need help."
"Oh," Macaque said, as if he was genuinely surprised.
Sun Wukong had a feeling that he actually was.
"Like I said, let us do for you what you did for us," Chang'e said firmly. "Stay here, we'll make sure you and the kids are good until we all know they're stable. Deal?"
"Sounds like I'm the only one getting a good end of this stick."
"Take the stick before we smack ya with it," Sun Wukong muttered under his breath. He couldn't help it.
It was just a habit for them to take shots at each other.
"Do I have to keep you two in separate rooms?" Chang'e asked. "Cause I can call in the bunny bots to babysit each of you separately while I make lunch."
"That's not-"
"FOOD?"
Chang'e and Sun Wukong stared at Macaque, the excitement in his voice not easy for either of them to miss.
"... I've been extraneously hungry since the babies started feeding on me," He said, clearing his throat in embarrassment.
"Yeah, that tracks," Sun Wukong said with a nod. "We've been the same since we had Li-Yan. But with two I bet it's even... worse, what are your twins doing?"
Macaque must have been incredibly distracted by the promise of sustenance because, before he knew it, the twins had crawled away from his arm and were sitting in front of him. They started at Li-Yan, who returned the favor by staring right back at them, before letting out a questioning monkey like chirp in their own little digital sounding way. And the twins, clearly confused, tilted their heads as they chirped back their own question in response.
The three adults watched as the 3 little ones stared at each other, heads tilting in almost perfect sync as they tried to understand the other tiny being before them.
Then. Slowly. One of the babies reached out...
And slapped one of Li-Yan's ears before rushing backwards, grabbing their twin and forming back into the taller monkey's shadow.
The three parents watched in stunned silence as Li-Yan froze, as if unable to process what had just happened. Themselves also taking a few moments to process what happened.
Three seconds.
Five seconds.
Then they all watched in confusion as the robot baby started to LAUGH.
The amount of relief that rushed through the adults at that exact moment could not be put into enough words for the author to describe. But you can imagine it was a lot.
"Why would they do that?" Chang'e asked in curiosity. "Is it because Li-Yan looks like a rabbit but sounded like a monkey?"
"Probably," Macaque said, clearly looking like a man who was fully expecting to be ejected from the moon base. "Once the twins get used to them they likely will treat them the same as any other baby around them."
"Aw, Li-Yan has their first little playmates!" Sun Wukong said with delight. "But my gosh they are shy."
"Yeah," Macaque admitted with an awkward chuckle. "They uh... tend to hide when they get spooked. The first time I sneezed around them was an experience. but they should pop back out in their own time. Probably when they're hungry. They tend to sleep when I do, but they've woken be up to feed before."
"Sounds like we need to work around that," Sun Wukong mused softly. "We don't want them draining you while we're all passed out."
"We can take shifts like we did when Li-Yan was first born," Chang'e suggested. "All of us. One of us stays awake when Macaque is up in case the babies drain him too much again, and one of us stays awake while he sleeps in case they drain him in his sleep."
"You are going to babysit me and my children?" Macaque asked in dismay.
"Sadly, you have proven Sun Wukong correct in one regard," she answered solemnly. "You cannot be trusted with your own well-being."
"Ok, you got me there," Macaque admitted with a nod, which was not what either had expected. He stood up, slowly and carefully. "I'm not above realizing that I really messed this up, I should have at least had someone to watch me while I did this. It's like weight lifting with no spotter."
"Just don't do it again," Sun Wukong said as he stood as well, picking Li-Yan up as he did so. "Now... I am hungry again already, because SOMEONE was munching on my energy the entire time we were talking."
He smirked, immediately bringing Li-Yan up to his face to pretend to each them, much to their squealing delight. Even Macaque seemed to find this sweet, a soft smile ALMOST gracing his face.
"What do you want to eat, Macaque?" Chang'e asked with a smile of her own.
"Food," Macaque answered quickly.
"...you can be more specific, MAYBE?" Sun Wukong said.
"Edible food."
"Don't make me wish I disagreed with my wife, Macaque," Sun Wukong said, clearly joking.
Both adults were surprised by Macaque actually chuckling in response this time.
"I know you would never, you lovesick dork. I just don't have a food preference, I'm starving," the shadow monkey said as he stretched. This turned out to be a mistake, as he had to grab onto the counter to keep steady. "Ah, lightheaded. Making two kids on your own really takes a lot out of you."
"Would that technically make you their mom?" Chang'e asked, rubbing her chin as she pondered this.
"Momcaque," Sun Wukong offered so helpfully.
"I will do anything you ask me to if you NEVER call me that again."
"Then tell me. What are their names?" Sun Wukong asked in curiosity.
The silence that greeted the question made the air around the trio of parents feel incredibly awkward.
"You've planned this for CENTURIES and they don't have NAMES YET!?"
"I was planning on naming then after I got to know them!"
"THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS!"
"You didn't NAME YOUR OWN BABY AT FIRST!"
"WE DIDN'T PLAN ON A BABY AT ALL!"
Chang'e sighed.
This was going to be a very long co-habitation.
"I can call them Thing 1 and Thing 2 until I figure out their names," Macaque said uncertainly, shrugging vaguely as he held the larger of the twins.
"You cannot be serious," Sun Wukong said. "Can't you think of any better nicknames? Something? Anything?"
Macaque frowned, watching the smaller twin viciously attempting to bite his tail, which wasn't even the least bit successful or painful given her size. Held the larger twin, feeling the purr radiating through her entire tiny body.
"... Rumble and Savage?"
"That-!... actually, that's not bad," Sun Wukong admitted with a nod. "The little one who smacked Li-Yan, they're smaller-"
"She," Macaque corrected. "They're both girls."
"Oh my gosh, you're a Girl Dad," Sun Wukong said without even missing a beat. "Mei is going to tease you forever."
"I'll let that one slide, FOR NOW. Look, I don't know how long it's gonna take me to figure out names for them," Macaque admitted with a shrug. "I had A name picked out, but I either need a new set of names or I need to pick one that matches."
"You really don't need to-
"They. Will. Have. Matching. NAMES," Macaque said with insistence. "It's what I want so that's what they're gonna get."
"Ok, ok," Sun Wukong said with a chuckle, admitting defeat. "Is there anything else we need to know?"
"Nah, I told you pretty much everything there is to tell."
There was no way in any of the known realms, from the Celestial to the Underworld, that Macaque would ever tell them the rest of the story...
~
"And what, exactly, do you need that many orders of bao for?" Pigsy asked with a raised brow.
He was onto him.
"You've seen my kwoon, Pigsy," Macaque said with practiced nonchalance. "Place is a mess. Last time Bai He came by she threatened to clean it up herself when I wasn't around and, ya know, I think her dad would actually kill me if any of my weapons hurt her. So I'm in for a long project to prevent my imminent demise."

Seashells
The first time Ao Guang had laid eyes upon them was when they dove into the sea to gather sea urchins and mussels from the underwater rocks. He’d seen many humans do that before, but none were quite as graceful as they were, their movements were akin to the ones of a sea creature, and they could hold their breath for so long, that the dragon nearly thought they had gills for a moment… until he saw them resurface with their catch of the day held inside a net, slicking their hair back and taking in big breaths of air.
That had somewhat displeased the King, who wasn’t a fan of ‘air breathers’ as he called them. But still, every action of theirs couldn’t help but strangely tug at his heartstrings, in a way nothing had ever done before, not even his own reflection. That troubled him, how could he… a near immortal being, be feeling that way for a mere human? Had the centuries spent in solitude, trying to regain his power softened his hatred for anything capable of surviving on land? No… that certainly wasn’t it- then what? Maybe… loneliness?
He tried to ignore those budding feelings, but he simply couldn’t, not when that person kept coming there to gather seafood, which he didn’t mind, since those little shelled mollusks were too small for him to eat anyways. They’d dive into the water, and then spend some time on the shore cleaning their catch, humming a song with that beautiful voice of theirs, beautiful enough to render Ao Guang innocuous as long as he could hear it.
He’d come to enjoy that daily occurrence, to the point of feeling like his day wasn’t complete if for any reason they didn’t show up. For that reason, he’d been tempted to stealthily follow them back on land, discover where they lived… so he could go and check on them whenever they missed a day, just to make sure it wasn’t because they were sick. But alas, his sensitive skin could never allow him to do that, especially not since he’d lost everything, including his servants, to that dreadful Sun Wukong, the Monkey King…
He had nobody who could help him, who’d carry him in a bathtub so he could see what laid beyond the water. It had been so long since he’d seen the surface.
For that same reason, he’d never dared to even show himself to the diver, fearing his skin would get damaged by the light and air, and that the horrible sight would’ve scared off the human.
However, one day his hand would be forced.
The diver came back like usual, and the Dragon King observed them from his usual spot, hidden behind rocks… but that day, the human didn’t seem to move as gracefully as usual… he could tell something was wrong… maybe they were fatigued, or maybe they’d suddenly fallen ill. Still, they persevered in their duty, working with their small knife to detach the shells from the rocks and cutting some seaweed… he could tell they looked weak doing so however… really weak. What was going on?
And then it happened, their legs stopped moving and they clung to the rock, trying to swim upwards, but lacking in energy and limbs to do so, since their legs weren’t responding and one of their arms was busy holding the net.
Ao Guang panicked. They were going to drown… he couldn’t have that, absolutely not. They’d become the only light in his otherwise dull and repetitive days, he wasn’t going to let them die like that. He saw a few bubbles coming out of their mouth, and that finally prompted him to act.
In just a second he’d caught up to them, being extremely nimble in his element, he took them and their net, swimming back to shore as fast as he could, and by the way their body had gone limp, he could tell they were barely conscious, which was… disappointing; he wanted them to know HE’d been the one to save them, but that wasn’t the time to think about that.
He resurfaced, placing them on the hot sand. He could already feel his sensitive skin drying as it felt the air and sunrays, but he didn’t care about that now. He had to check on them, knowing that humans could get damaged if they were to breathe in water. Luckily, as he checked on them, the human began to cough on their own, gasping for air and spitting out water, their limbs shaking.
They were alive! But as soon as they’d coughed out all the water, they briefly looked at him and then… they passed out again on the sand.
The Dragon King took that opportunity to dive back into the water, hydrating his skin and going back to watching them from a distance; they seemed to be simply asleep, and he took a sigh of relief. Still… that was his chance, he could’ve done something to make his presence known, to perhaps finally let the diver understand that someone was keeping an eye on them.
He dove into the depths, searching for something that would’ve definitely let them know someone powerful had helped them, and then he found it, the most beautiful seashell he could find: a Venus comb, with blue and peach streaks, definitely something unusual, which was perfect.
After making sure the diver was still sleeping, he resurfaced and placed the seashell atop their net; he gave one last look at them, and then disappeared again into the water.
---
(y/n) woke up an hour later with a throbbing headache and sand all over their body. Their memory was foggy, all they could remember was suddenly feeling weak as soon as they’d entered the water, struggling to move and then… something scaly and smooth picking them up and dragging them to the shore.
“What the hell was that?” they muttered to themselves, brushing off some sand and looking to the side, noticing their net was safe and sound, half in the water so the creatures they’d caught wouldn’t dry in the sun, and on top of all that… a wonderful Venus comb.
Their eyes widened at the sight of that… Who could’ve left that thing there?
They shakily got back up, taking the shell into their hands, feeling it.
Suddenly, a memory flashed before (y/n), and they saw a blue dragon looking at them. Did it… save them?
That thought stuck with them all the way back home. How could THEY, a mere diver, have caught the attention of such a being?
“I’m home!” (y/n) announced, immediately being hugged by their older sister, (s/n), who was worried sick for her sibling.
“You’re late! I-I thought something had happened- I was about to come look for you I-”
(y/n) chuckled “Relax, sister… the sea is always on my side…” they replied with a small chuckle “I think… literally, today” they added, pulling back from the hug and placing the net on a straw mat before looking back at that seashell.
(s/n) widened her eyes at the sight “I’ve never seen such a large Venus comb…”
“I know! I… I had no idea they could get so big…” (y/n) replied, smiling “I think this was a gift from my savior…”
“Your… savior? So something DID happen!” their sister replied, sounding concerned again “I knew you shouldn’t have gone diving today… you’ve been working so hard- and you still insist on doing that almost every day too”
(y/n) looked to the side, really not wanting to tell their sister they’d nearly drowned, they shook their head “That doesn’t matter- I can’t just… Stop doing that, it’s my job…” the diver replied, looking back to their sister, then back at the seashell “I think… it was a dragon…”
(s/n) sighed deeply, knowing her sibling would never listen to her concerns, but soon her interest was caught again when (y/n) mentioned what they thought had saved them “A… dragon you say? But… there’s no other water dragons aside from… Ao Guang- but he tried to destroy us hundreds of years ago, why would he save a human now?”
(y/n) flinched, they knew the legend of Ao Guang very well: he tried to drown the world, envious of the people who could walk on land, but his plans were foiled by Sun Wukong, who defeated him before being trapped in a mountain for being too irresponsible with the powers bestowed to him.
“Well… I don’t know if it could truly be him- but… isn’t it good if it was? That means maybe he doesn’t wish to kill humankind anymore!” (y/n) suggested, wanting to stay positive “He even gifted this to me… so perhaps he’s truly changed…”
(s/n) nodded slowly, she did agree with her sibling, but it seemed a bit too risky to just let that happen without doing anything about it “Ao Guang is still a dangerous being, to leave his kindness unpaid could be dangerous… we should prepare an offering for him”
(y/n) couldn’t agree more, it was still best to be cautious with beings of such power, but what to bring him then? “I don’t think he’d enjoy fruits… and he definitely has enough fish in his territory that he can feed off of… we don’t own any cattle-” they began listing, unable to come up with anything that could even remotely pay back the Dragon King’s favor.
Their sister was thinking intensely about it as well, until she had an idea “You could bake something for him!”
“B-bake?” the diver asked.
(s/n) smiled “Of course! You’re nearly as talented with baking as you are with fishing, if any pastry can satisfy a divine being that would be yours!” she cheerfully said. “You could make him some Tang Yuan, or some Dou Sha Bao! I’m sure he’d love them”
(y/n) looked a bit to the side, embarrassed by their sister’s kind compliments “But… those are all such simple things, would a dragon really be satisfied with them?”
“Well… it’s still better than nothing, or than something he’s seen time and time again-”
“Right- right… well, I’d better get baking then” the diver replied, chuckling a bit; they had to get everything ready.
---
The following day, (y/n) got back to the beach, but not to fish this time, rather, to carry a large offering of red bean paste buns to the Dragon King. They felt a bit nervous, wondering if he’d even accept that as thanks, but they hoped for the best.
They knelt down on the sand, placing a bamboo boat, containing a decent amount of Bao buns, on it.
(y/n) took a deep breath, and then spoke up.
“Great Ao Guang… I humbly offer you this food, as thanks for saving my life… I know this will never be enough to repay your gesture, but please accept it”
The Dragon King was shocked to see the human come back like that, carrying food offerings. He’d been waiting for them, and had swam closer as soon as he heard them call his name. That was a great surprise, and it nearly made him feel prideful that humans still knew of him, even after being gone from their sight for so long.
He looked at the diver, then back at the offering. Whatever those things were, they looked delicious, he just had to wait for them to leave, so he could try some.
But it was really difficult to hold back, not just because he’d been craving something other than fish… but because he wanted to finally show himself to the human being.
After some moments of hesitation, he finally decided to bite the bullet and emerge, only by a smidge, so that only his horns and part of his snout were visible, because one: he wanted to look mysterious, and two: he was afraid his skin would dry out if he stayed out there for too long.
Still, that was enough to make (y/n) gasp in shock, and kneel down in respect “Great Ao Guang… so it truly was you who saved me yesterday…” they muttered, unsure if they were even allowed to speak.
In the meantime, Ao Guang was having the time of his life, being revered by the human he’d been interested in for so long was feeding his starving ego, and he had to hold back from saying anything, not wanting to ruin a moment that most definitely felt mythical to the human.
“If- if I may be so… bold to ask… why me? There’s… so many people who die at sea, some leagues more important than me, but you chose to save me… why?” (y/n) asked, wanting answers above everything.
The Dragon King wasn’t expecting a question so soon, especially not something that would’ve laid his motives bare like that, but alas… he had to answer, if anything because he wanted to get closer to them.
“You… come to these shores seeking food for your family most days, and then you sit on the sand and sing, cleaning mussels and other shelled creatures. That singing… it pleases me, that is why I saved you” he replied, keeping his tone serious and cool, although inside he was blushing madly from embarrassment, he couldn’t believe he’d just openly admitted he enjoyed the human’s singing.
(y/n) was surprised that he’d saved them for something so… silly, frankly, but then they remembered, the dragon was selfish, and driven by desire, so him caring for (y/n) simply because of their singing made sense. “So… you saved me because I’m… entertaining?”
“Life is boring, when you’re thousands of years old and have nobody to talk to-” he bluntly replied, before realizing how honest and non-mysterious his words sounded, which prompted him to cover his mouth with his hands, in a rather comical way.
The diver widened their eyes, holding back a small giggle, trying to remind themselves they were in front of a powerful dragon and not just some… lonely fish. “Well… if my singing brightens your days so… I’ll keep coming here, Great Ao Guang” they smiled.
The Dragon King felt his heart flutter at those words, but he tried regaining a calm attitude, wanting the human to take him very seriously. “Very well… you’re free to leave now- so that I can… enjoy my offers in peace” he said, accidentally sounding more eager than perhaps necessary. He just hadn’t had anything but fish for the past centuries since his defeat, he was DYING for some novelty.
(y/n) flinched “Oh! Yes, of course… I hope my baking makes you as happy as my singing-” they muttered, turning around to leave the beach. As soon as they’d taken some steps away, they heard the sound of water splashing around, followed by silly, happy giggles.
As it turned out, the King had not, in fact, been able to hold back for long enough, and had started eating his offerings without waiting for (y/n) to leave completely.
That prompted the diver to look back, finding the ‘Great Ao Guang’ floating atop the water like a sea otter, while keeping the boat full of buns on his chest and savoring them with the happiest smile on his face.
At that sight, (y/n) chuckled, they couldn’t help it, he was just too cute not to.
However, the moment the Dragon King noticed them looking, he grew embarrassed. “Uh… you were not supposed to turn around…” he quietly muttered, his cheeks going purple, ashamed of himself for not being able to wait longer, now fearing that the human would’ve thought of him as ridiculous.
But (y/n) wasn’t thinking that at all “S-sorry, sorry… I just… well- I was worried my offering wouldn’t be enough, so- seeing you enjoy it so much is making me really happy… Great Ao Guang…” they replied, smiling.
The King was surprised… the human thought those delicacies wouldn’t be enough? Well, actually they were right… or at least they would’ve been, a couple hundred years ago, when he was still respected as the King of the eastern sea, a simple offer of sweets would’ve been laughable, but now? After he’d lost everything because of that cursed Monkey King? Not at all- that, in fact, was the best thing anyone had done for him in a while, and he didn’t even need to instill absolute fear in their soul to get them to do that?!
“You underestimate yourself… human” he spoke, recomposing himself, as if he hadn’t just been caught lounging in such an unflattering manner. “These are undoubtedly… worthy offerings for a king such as I~” he smirked.
(y/n)’s eyes lit up with joy “T-they are? Oh- oh w-wow… That means the world to me! I’m so flattered!” they replied, a big grin on their face as they tried to stop the blushing on their cheeks; it wasn’t everyday that they’d get complimented by a dragon after all. Then… an idea suddenly came to them; they could take advantage of this… to help their village “I-I could bring more… if you wish”
“You could?!” Ao Guang blurted out, immediately clearing his throat as he noticed how desperate that had come out. “I mean… that would be… uh…” he stammered, struggling to find the right words to convey that he would’ve loved that, without losing his dignity, but nothing came to mind, so he just floated there, awkwardly.
(y/n) couldn’t help but chuckle again “Yeah, I could! There’s just… a small problem-” they began, their tone getting a bit meeker.
“And what would the problem be?” the King asked. Whatever it was, he was certainly capable of doing something about it- honestly, he would’ve done anything to get more attention from the human he’d been looking at for so long.
“Well… droughts have been more frequent as of late… and we don’t have many resources to begin with, our rice fields are especially struggling” the diver explained. “But… I know from the legends that you, Great Ao Guang, used to be able to control the weather- if you gave us rain to water our crops… I’d have enough to make these and many other dishes for you-”
The Dragon King listened. The human was asking him to do the thing that he’d always dreaded to do… control the weather to make humans happy. But… this time he could also gain from it; he’d gain the human’s trust, he’d FINALLY get to eat something that wasn’t fish, and maybe… something more.
“Ah, so I see you’ve heard of my legends… I am indeed capable of controlling the weather, and if you keep bringing me gifts and singing for me, I’ll bring you and your village rain whenever you’re in need, sounds good, little human?” he asked with a little smirk.
(y/n) couldn’t believe it… their plan had worked flawlessly! Maybe… a bit too much, was there a trick? Would the dragon expect something more every time? Had they just doomed themselves? It didn’t feel like that… but all they could do for now was bow “I thank you from the depths of my soul, Great Ao Guang”
The King’s smirk turned into a sheepish smile as he felt butterflies in his stomach, the feeling of that human revering him felt… beyond good; it took him on a full power trip, he felt like his old glory days would soon be coming back! And sure, he’d lost all his subjects, but this human’s attentions would definitely make up for it.
“What is your name… human?” he asked in a deeper, more confident tone.
“(y-y/n)…” the diver replied, and the dragon looked pleased.
“Very well, (y/n), expect some nice rain tomorrow~”
---
And rain it did. The following day, and then from then onwards at least once or twice a week. It was gentle rain, never windy, so that (y/n) could still come to the shore and look for mollusks, and clean them on the beach, singing. During the sunny days, Ao Guang would watch them from afar, but whenever it rained, he’d be able to come out of the water and enjoy (y/n)’s singing from closer, without having to worry about his skin getting dry.
Meanwhile, in the village, the crops flourished and produced more than they ever did, which meant the diver now also had enough variety of provisions to cook so many different meals for the King, the offerings never felt repetitive, and he always ate everything with great happiness, he was really living the life! And only at the price of some rain at that.
Still… the King had yet to find the courage to ask his human for more; the singing and offerings greatly appeased him, and their occasional chats were simply delightful, but something was still missing: touch. He craved it so deeply now… he wanted to hold (y/n), nuzzle up to them, he wanted to feel their hands on his skin, but there was no way he’d just crawl to them asking for affection, that was way too desperate, and as much as he would’ve loved to just use his position of power to order them to cuddle up, that didn’t feel right either.
He’d waited for the perfect chance: a rainy day, where he could stay out of the water without worrying about his skin. He’d looked at (y/n) as they gathered different kinds of shelled mollusks, something they’d certainly sell at the market, a little quaint human invention made to trade products between people, as the diver themselves had explained to him.
Then, once they were done, he followed them to the shore, sitting on the sand, using his long, scaly tail as a sort of pillow to recline against. His heart was pounding more than usual.
(y/n) sat down as well, beside Ao Guang, and began their usual routine of singing while cleaning up their catch on the beach, so that it’d look perfect and spotless when they sold it. But as of late… their routine position had gradually changed: at first they’d sit several feet away from the dragon, feeling like they’d be disrespecting him if they sat too close, but little by little, they’d began closing the gap, sitting closer and closer every day, until they were sitting within the King’s grasp.
Ao Guang smirked, noticing they’d sat close to him that day too; that was exactly what he was waiting for… he gently reached out with his hand and began to stroke their hair. “Hm… you’ve been sitting quite close by as of late, (y/n)...” he pointed out.
The diver blushed madly, not expecting to feel the King’s hand run through their hair so smoothly “I-I’m so sorry!” they quickly replied, lowering their head.
He chuckled softly “No need for apologies… I never said I minded it… if anything, I can listen to your singing even better from here…” the Dragon King whispered, his breath feeling surprisingly warm on (y/n)’s neck.
(y/n) flinched, their blushing situation not getting any better when they could feel him so close “I-I… well- I’m glad you enjoy it so much…” they muttered, feeling too flustered to think of anything else.
The dragon smiled “Still, I can’t help but wonder… if you’ve been getting closer on purpose…” he continued, wanting to test the waters.
The diver looked at him in total disbelief, they could tell he was trying to tell them something. In truth, there WAS a reason why they’d found themselves drawn closer and closer to Ao Guang… after all those months of meeting every day, offering things to him, watching him eat with such a happy and giddy expression- their feelings towards the dragon had begun to morph into something they didn’t dare to speak of with anyone. (y/n) cared about him, deeply so, and they struggled to accept that; he wasn’t even human, for crying out loud! Why did he make them feel like that?!
They blushed, unable to come up with an excuse “I simply… enjoy sitting here… next to you…” (y/n) muttered, slowly leaning into the King’s touch.
That motion sent a shiver up Ao Guang’s spine, and he really had to hold himself back from pulling (y/n) into a hug right as he felt their head rub against his palm.
“What a coincidence then… that I like this too…” he replied, trying to act cool.
(y/n) felt their whole body get warmer at those words, and slowly found the confidence to do something they’d never done before: they stopped cleaning their catch and turned to face the Dragon King, looking straight into his deep, red eyes. And then, (y/n) slowly placed their hand on his, running their fingers on his scales.
Ao Guang felt his cheeks warm up; (y/n)’s touch was so amazingly soft, up until that point, he never realized just HOW affection-starved he was, to the point where feeling that slight touch after centuries of solitude had his heart melt instantly, and he gently began to pull them closer and closer, until (y/n) found themselves leaning against Ao Guang’s body, which felt surprisingly squishy, though they should have figured, given how he was a water dragon.
“A-Ao Guang…?” the diver muttered, a slight gasp escaping their lips as the dragon wrapped his arms around them, the long sleeves of his robes covering (y/n)’s back like a little blanket.
He smiled down at them, “What’s wrong…? Is a King’s embrace so shocking you can’t even get your words out~?” he asked, the smile slowly turning into a little grin.
That smugness however, had sort of the opposite effect on (y/n), instead of further flustering them, they couldn’t help but chuckle “W-well… perhaps” (y/n) replied and gently booped his nose, which was just within reach now.
The Dragon King let out a small yelp, not expecting to get poked like that, but, not wanting to lose the ‘upper hand’, he poked right back, which only got (y/n) to giggle more.
“C-cease your chuckling!” he pouted, feeling like things weren’t really going his way.
“What? Don’t tell me you expected me to never tease back-” (y/n) giggled, looking back up at Ao Guang and finding him blushing purple; it seemed like they’d nearly forgotten the dragon before them was a King, and soon they  relaxed a bit, wrapping their arms around the dragon’s body, nuzzling up to his neck, which was covered in soft, teal fur.
For the second time in his secular life, the Dragon King felt himself tensing up and shivering, but this time, for a completely different reason. That closeness was simply driving him crazy- so much so that he ignored (y/n)’s little remark and let them cuddle up to him.
After a couple of minutes in comfortable silence, (y/n) spoke up again, still not completely certain that what was happening really meant what they thought it did “A-Ao Guang?” they whispered “Have you… wanted this for long?”
The Dragon King somewhat tensed up at that question, not wanting to admit just HOW long he’d been interested in (y/n), still, he couldn’t just stay silent- so he decided to repurpose their question “Hm… I don’t knowww, some time… but what about you?”
“I-” (y/n) blushed slightly, partially hiding their face into the King’s neck fluff “I-I admit… it was a few months into our agreement-”
The King couldn’t help but chuckle, trying to play it off outwardly, while inwardly he… honestly felt relieved his feelings seemed to be reciprocated.
“Ah, but of course, nobody can resist my kingly charms~”
(y/n)’s blush deepened at that silly statement “I-I really couldn’t-” they muttered, running a hand on his chest.
Ao Guang felt another shiver go up his spine and he smiled bashfully, really unable to stop enjoying (y/n)’s touch so much, and he tightened his grip on them, pulling them up; he was feeling more and more confident about this.
(y/n) felt so happy as well, it was absolutely crazy, not only that the Dragon King reciprocated their feelings, but that he did so with absolutely no hesitation. They rubbed their face against his neck and eventually found the courage to place a small, soft kiss on it.
The feeling of (y/n)’s lips against his neck got the king to let out a small squeak and flinch, the warmth from that kiss spreading all across his body as he felt compelled to kiss back- and he did, starting from the human’s neck, and slowly making his way to their beautiful face, closing his eyes while (y/n) clinged to him, pressing their body against him more, kissing back and caressing his fur.
The two slowly began to lose themselves in their feelings, and things could’ve gone on for longer, but suddenly, Ao Guang noticed his snout was starting to itch, and when he opened his eyes he noticed it had stopped raining!
With a slight gasp, he reluctantly broke the hug and got back up, causing (y/n) to slide off him, looking more confused than ever as the Dragon King hurried back into the water.
Did (y/n) do something wrong? Were things getting too heated? No… that wasn’t it-
It was then that they noticed the King’s skin was looking awfully dry, and they walked into the gentle waves, looking concerned as the dragon frantically splashed water on himself.
“Ao Guang… are you… okay?” (y/n) asked softly, stepping into the water to check on him.
“YES! Yes… everything’s… gorgeous-” he muttered, still looking unnerved.
The diver gently took his scaly hands, looking serious “I saw… your skin… is-is that why you never come out of the water when it’s sunny?” they asked.
The Dragon King looked to the side, feeling beyond embarrassed that now (y/n) knew about his darkest secret. “I know- I know it looks freaky…” he said, averting his eyes.
But (y/n) shook their head “It’s- it’s not freaky! I mean you- you didn’t choose to be born with such sensitive skin it’s… it’s okay! I still love you-”
The sea dragon could hardly believe that they were actually fine with it… for centuries people had made fun of him for his frail skin, and now finally… someone actually wasn’t judging him for it! But then the human uttered something else that caught his attention way more “Wait you- you… love me?”
(y/n) felt their cheeks heating up, they didn’t mean to say that… not yet at least, but seeing Ao Guang look so distressed had just made it impossible for them to hold back! “I-... Y-yes, I do…”
The King looked at them in surprise, his cheeks quickly going purple “D-do you… actually mean it? I mean of COURSE you love me! … y-you do, right?” he said, going back and forth between disbelief and trying to act cocky like he normally did.
“Yes, I really d-do…” (y/n) reassured him, going to hug him again.
Ao Guang chuckled bashfully, picking his precious human up and cuddling them “Well since that’s the case… I do believe I reciprocate those feelings… quite strongly” he said, looking a bit to the side. He couldn’t believe things had gone so smoothly… but he had to expect it, nobody could resist his charm!
Or at least, that’s what he wanted to think… but in truth, he felt extremely grateful for (y/n)… without them, his life would certainly be much duller. Sure, he was no undisputed ruler… but he was finally loved, and for now, that was enough.
The End

HiBERNATION SHADOWPEACH
Idk why this just popped into my head, but what if Macaque went into hibernation and none of the crew understood why Macaque suddenly fell asleep. I know monkeys don’t hibernate but let’s go with it.
Macaque fought hard against his instincts but ever since LBD, he just couldn’t keep fight it. So he started falling asleep a lot, until eventually his body gave in and he went to hibernation in his theatre.
No big deal, no one ever comes in and he has enough food to wake up to… Until Mk finds him and panics, because Macaque wouldn’t wake up and his glamour was off. He thought Macaque was dying and called Monkie King.
Monkie King never suffered from hibernation, he was always warm to the touch that the cold never made his body think of hibernation, so Monkie King just straight up panics.
He doesn’t know what to do and he things Macaque is dying as well, trying different methods to wake him up, not yet using anything magical or ancient since they’re in the city and everything is at Flower Fruit Mountain.
However Tang and Sandy calm everyone down by suggesting hibernation. That Macaque just needs to sleep to gather his strength back and he should wake up on his own, calming everyone down.
Monkie King takes him back to FFM in hopes of a warm climate waking him up sooner, nope. Macaques body has completely shut down until spring.
Monkie King stays by his side to just watch him breath, make sure he doesn’t die. He couldn’t face it if he does, Mk sometimes tags along and stays near Macaque as well.
The only time he does leave is to train MK and that’s it, he couldn’t bring himself to eat unless Mk brought him something and it’s not like he had friends.
I don’t have a clue on what would happen once Macaque wakes up, besides panic on being on the mountain and Wukong hovering over him.
But I do like the idea of Monkie King using Macaques hibernation against him by sleeping besides him, just to feel him breath and hear his heartbeat. He needs to feel Macaques warm alive body against him and not the cold body below him.
That’s all I got, hopefully I can draw some idea concepts around this.

season 4 special spoilers
Tumblr media
"oh yeah because normally you just RUSH to my rescue"
It goes without saying that this seems harsh and it is. On first glance, it seems like wukong is undermining everything Macaque has done for him but I don't think that's what wukong meant by it. I think he was referring to the fallout of the war against Heaven.
Let me explain. Wukong was the only one captured by heaven meaning the others including Macaque would have retreated without him leaving him at the mercy of heaven. We know they don't partially care about 'mortal' life (yes wukong is very immortal I mean from the mortal plain aka not a god). and keep in mind that wukong doesn't know he is imvisable from his perspective his closest friends, family even, just left him for dead. Something that he is terrified of to the point of paranoia (which is understandable, I would be too if I was kidnapped in my sleep and taken to the underworld).
Sure he may hope they come back for him but if he does that just makes it even sadder because well they don't. and it's not like they didn't have any time to either. for one, I really doubt that wukong was taken off the battlefield and straight to execution. I'm sure would have been a few heavenly days in a prison cell even if just to give them time to set up the execution but like also there is no way I don't see heaven torturing him for either information or just daring to fight against them. plenty of time to stage a rescue. even if he was taken straight to the execution bloke it still would have taken a few minutes if not more to get there. since each heavenly day is a mortal year that would probably translate to weeks. so there is no way that the Brotherhood didn't have time at least try and save wukong. Macaque specifically could have probably done it even without the support of the rest of the brotherhood. he can just shadow portal either wukong out or himself in to free wukong. we see that Macaque can do this in season 4 so we know he can portal there he just doesn't.
Even if there was a spell preventing shadow portal-ing on the holding cell the brazier of 8 trigrams would not have this security feature since it normally wasn't used for executions. This means that it theoretically should have been easy for Macaque to get Wukong especially given that Wukong was in there for 49 mortal years and especially especially since wukong was probably calling for him or at least screaming. which Macaque could probably hear given his abilities (which are proven to exist in the show). Furthermore, the brazer was probably left unguarded after a few days or so it should have been a piece of cake.
Then there is havoc in heaven. which would have been the biggest slap in the face for Wukong because none of the Brotherhood would really need to do anything but show up. Wukong almost defeated Heaven single-handedly. The only thing that the brotherhood would need to do is stop Wukong from making the bet with Buddha and they would have won and completed their goal. They were so close but no none of the brotherhood came to support Wukong in the battle. it's not like no one knew of battle as demons repetitively bring it up in jttw. and again there would have been time. Most battles last hours if not a full day which means there would have been months for the Brotherhood to prepare and join but they didn't. Even if it wasn't well known what was happening at the time Macaque with his good ears should have been able to tell. I know that Azure, Yellow Tusk, Peng, and DBK probably wouldn't want to go fight heaven to defend Wukong but Wukong wouldn't have needed them. even if it was just Macaque. If he had shown up before the bet they would have won.
This would be very upsetting. traumatizing even because he was abandoned and left for dead. terrifying because he thought he was going to die. Frustrating because he was right there. Sure there could be a valid reason why Macaque didn't help Wukong but we don't know it, Wukong probably doesn't know it. From Wukong's perspective, Macaque just left him to be tortured and killed only to return once he lost everything to give him one 'whole peach' as an apology while saying "You know I'd help if I could" despite there being multiple times that he could have helped. Which triggered the line of Macaque not 'rushing' to his aid. After the facts are laid out from Wukong's perspective you can kinda see where Wukong is coming from and why would lash out so badly. The reasons why Macaque's got the wrong approach are better explained in the post if you're interested.
I like to finish by saying I'm in no way saying that what happened was completely Macaque's fault nor I am saying that Wukong had the right to treat him so harshly. all I'm saying is that it is understandable for Wukong to act like this given what he went through, his words are not completely unfounded, Macaque and Wukong both shoulder the blame for this, and Wukong needs therapy yesterday. chop chop people/j

'Help' au Chapter 5. (part one)
The pilgrims waited in the same clearing where the monkeys had left them. They couldn't believe what had happened the whole time. They were broken. Ao Li cried all the time, the journey brought Wukong and the dragon very close. They became best friends. Ao Li couldn't handle this news about the possibility of the death of a monkey that had so many layers of immortality, so how was it even possible. The water demon shut himself up. He tried to find a balance, but he also became attached to Wkong. However, when it comes to the demon pig, he did not show any emotions on the outside, but inside he was tormented by extreme emotions. Even though he was often rude and made fun of the monkey, he didn't want him to die. Seeing how the most powerful monkey in the world couldn't get up broke him. He realized that he would like his relationship with Wukong to improve. Needless to say, Tripitaka was the worst affected by the whole thing. He didn't think that the spells that activated the crown were doing such harm to the monkey. Sam didn't want anyone to get hurt, not to be killed, and he probably killed Wukong himself, and he was immortal. The monk could not bear this truth. His mentality of right and wrong has been broken. All the morality he believed in turned out to be nothing. He has to do something about it. He decided that from now on he would forget about the spell and be better for the monkey not for Wukong is his name. If he comes back, he doesn't have to come back. It'll be okay. So the monk told himself, but the guilt grew stronger every moment. His hope slowly faded and his fear grew. Fear that a great monk who had sworn not to kill any being led to the death of one of his disciples, friends. Thanks to this trip, he gained them. Too bad he only realized it now. Suddenly, a shadow portal appeared in front of the pilgrims, from which came a dark-haired monkey and Wukong. The sight of their friend who could walk and that meant he was fine gladdened their hearts. Ao Li ran up with joy in his eyes, but quickly fell over and got up as if nothing had happened and continued walking towards the monkeys. The dark-furred monkey barked a warning. Ao Li stood in front of them a little confused, but understood the fears of the dark-haired monkey who was apparently helping to keep Wkong's balance. He noticed this after Wukong holds the other monkey's arm tightly and holds his staff. Ao Lee smiled. "It's okay Liuer," Wukong said quietly. He let go of the dark-haired monkey's arm and walked over to Ao Li arguing with the staff. Then he hugged the dragon, which he gladly reciprocated. Then he looked at the other monkey and said, "Hello, I'm Ao Li, and I'm sorry I attacked you earlier." The dark haired monkey rolled his eyes and replied, "I'm Macaque, Six-Eared Macaque by the way." Ao li replied “Nice to meet you” and smiled warmly. "We were all worried about you Wukong" said the dragon and Macaque snorted. "Let's join the rest though," said Ao li. "Wukong I don't think…" said the warrior. To which the king replied, "Everything will be fine. You'll know the rest, they're not that bad at all." He flashed a beaming smile to his moon. "Alright then, be with you." And they went. The warrior put his arm around the king, who looked radiant. It's been a long time since he'd seen his sun so happy as it is now. Maybe they're not bad, but be careful with Wukong, Macaque thought. The water and pig demon hugged Wukong tightly. "Yes, I missed you too." Said the king. "And this is my mate Macaque six-eared."

(Hope I’m doing this right but here goes nothing!)
Here’s kind of a scenario for the Prince Red AU(or whichever AU you prefer). About how in the aftermath of the Spider Queens attack, or just a dangerous fight in general, Prince Red is seriously injured.
So much so; that while MK, and everyone else is trying to help him, he ends up shaking and making this… honk??? It sounds like a dying squeaker crossed with a buzzer, and a moo. Prince Red is making the sound with every exhale(breath in, honk and repeat). The team is, understandably, freaking out(except for Wukong, who is more focused on scanning the horizon with gold vision than the injured prince) until the ground starts to shake and the wind picks up speed.
Next thing anyone knows , an army of Monkey King clones has bulldozed the team away from the injured fire demon. The source of the tremors revealing itself in the form of a very angry DBK & PIF, glowing purple eyes and all. Monkey King and his clones being the only thing standing between the two sides duking it out.
Monkey King is surprisingly calm as he talked to the two; saying that they didn’t hurt Prince Red, they were only trying to help, ect.
The couple turns their attention back to their son, DBK picking up the injured demon with one hand. Which makes MK see red as five more clones were added to his pile to keep him pinned. Only stopping in his struggles when he hears the cries Prince Red had been making start to slowly die out. DBK nuzzling the prince while his wife was humming audibly enough for the heroes to hear.
Whatever the two were doing, it was working, and MK didn’t know how to feel about that. Scratch that he does. Concern. Concerned about what exactly they were doing this for(there’s no way they don’t have some hidden motives, right?), and why his mentor was letting it happen in the first place was gonna be a whole other conversation later. When he asks now, all his teacher says is “never get in the way of bull demons and a distressing calf, learned that one the hard way.”
______
Kinda bare and bones, but I couldn’t get the thought of Prince Red making distressed calf noises and his parents just charging in from who knows where out of my head. And this being one of the few times Monkey King knows better than to intervene and tries to be responsible.
Tumblr media
Aaaaaaaaaa Anon, you are definitely doing it right and I love this so much!! Red making cow noises and having cow traits is always fun, but adding it together into a scene where he's hurt and making it a lil angsty is just too good!
Of course, by the time the Spider Queen attacked, Prince Red is on MK's side, so he wouldn't ever consciously call on his parents for help, since he thinks they hate him and think of him as a traitor.. but if he's injured enough, calling out like that might just be an instinctive reaction that he can't help, which, honestly, is even more fun. And it would be such a nice moment for his parents to actually show that they DO still care about their son. Whether or not he his aware enough of what's happening to remember the scene or he has to have it described to him later by an incredulous MK is a different matter lol

You know WHAT!? No, I will not let tumblr win! I’m sending this ask whether we like it or not, round three let’s screech like a banshee!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAA
a lil baby ask tho, I ain’t got the confidence for the long one no the citations die with me
So, the claiming marks from Hawk and your core au (and snapped but yknow, tis just a lil baby au right now) I’m not entirely sure how they work and I’ve been trying my darnedest
At first thought it was more of a passive thing, back when it was only on the cores themselves. More a magic transfer like ya said here, but a Macaque exclusive? Like only he could do it, or have it done to him since he had that rare core corporeal ability. But THEN they started popping up on the physical bodies
such as when Wukong is what I’m assuming is reclaiming over LBD’s ice marks with his own magic after her defeat? At least that’s what I’m catching from the more golden swirl off to the side, so then it’s not just something Mac adjacent and more “if you’ve got magic and intent it works?” And clearly it’s not something to be done lightly with how much pain Macaque is in while it’s happening soooo
That kinda leads me to my question which is what’s the purpose? More than cosmetic since it’s on the souls BUT also some of those designs look particularly artsy so did they get drawn on (matchy matchy) (Mac <I am LOOKING at those frosty white stars hmmmm> lookin so cool in his new colors) (boop) but also they can fade (from Hawk’s sick Wukong renewed broken marks design) and clearly a sign of, not quite ownership but a “they’re with me better know what you’ll get if you mess with em”? I guess!? (oop)
[this is absolutely core au propaganda]
And now SNAPPED!! HAVSISHDJS WHAT!? Clearly a mark of control Wukong put on MK, or at the very least something that screams he’s under Wukong’s thumb and hurting so like Implications!!
Basically what this is all getting at is Claming Marks ✨ if those links don’t work I’m going to cry
holy cow you went and cited your sources and everything goddamn!!!
points deducted because its not in MLA format.
ANYWAYS yes.
Claims. (this got long so READ MORE GO BRRRR)
They're relatively new, Hawk and I only came up with them....uhh....a quick search in our dms & server and the earliest mention i can find is only about 2 weeks ago. They're...they're sorta what they sound like? A way to mark a "claim" over someone else, over their very soul.
It's only something immortals can do - any immortal. Mac has other special core powers but a claim & claim marks are for anyone with an immortal core.
They can have plenty of different purposes, some more neutral, some good, others...pretty dark. Generally and historically (and the way we use them MOST in the AU) is as a sign of trust, a super close bond and a way to cement it (not inherently romantic). A king and a trusted warrior, for example. :) They're largely for the message it sends and not usually for any practical reason. More of just an honor. Wedding rings, sorta? But not inherently romantic, like I said. They're mostly just a personal mark, because cores aren't visible other than to a select few people. Just a way between two people to cement a connection. Mac & Wukong's are particularly strong after being redone, so they can sorta feel each other? They can feel a general direction/location of the other, and can sorta vibe check each other through it. Get a vague sense of how the other is feeling/doing. Particularly any strong negative ones stand out most. (The bond can also be closed off/hidden from the other half but that's almost more suspicious and will just make the other half Concerned.)
Other claims have....darker...applications. LBD uses a version on Wukong in the show (Headcanon/retroactively making canon fit core) and also Mac later when we mess him up real bad. These being control claims, which...do what they sound like. Hers are especially ouch because she overwrote the former marks instead of making a new one (more on that later).
And yes, there is stuff in Snapped too. Wukong uses a stronger claim mark on MK to keep him close, it hurts if he moves too far out of the king's sphere of influence.
The carving of a claim (and that is the best word for it) isn't necessarily painful (though it can be) but it's not a comfortable experience. It is taking one's power and essentially forcing it into a place etched into another soul, which is going to be uncomfortable no matter how willing it is. A willing claim is just uncomfortable and sorta hurts, but it can get far worse. Mac and Wukong's first one was this. From when they were young and stupid and close, a regular willing claim they both wanted and carved into the other.
They can also be forced upon someone else, and this is inherently painful as the soul fights back instead of being open and accepting of the power (these are also usually ones with darker purposes, Wukong was on the wrong end of a couple attempts).
Claims can be removed (but never fully. The etchings will still be there, even if the power is removed) and can also be overriden. To take a claim and rip the power that used to be there out, and replace it with one's own. LBD does this, and it's a real good way to break someone. While all immortals can lay a claim, not every immortal can override a claim (particularly if the original claim is made by a powerful soul). It takes a whole lot more power and is inherently painful and much harder on a soul than a regular claim.
(The picture you linked with wukong reclaiming is exactly what you think it is. And even though this was a willing override, Mac's core is inherently very fragile after being twice shattered, and Wukong's core and power are so strong this takes a HUGE toll on him. There was a non-zero chance that Wukong overriding an already overridden claim would have killed Mac. (And they both knew that.))
SO NOW THAT ALL THAT IS OUT OF THE WAY -
Claim marks :)
All claims leave at least one physical mark, from where it was made the first time. From their first original ones when they were young, Wukong's is on his back like Hawk drew, Mac's is on his chest (under a bunch of scars :') ).
All claims have the one mark, but others can be made as well, drawn on like you guessed! The claims may serve a practical purpose but claim marks are just aesthetic. Be it a visible declaration of the claim (core mac & wukong) or a mark of ownership (snapped MK and the white snowflakes on mac). They can only be made by someone with a claim on the soul of the person they're marking, and can be added and removed whenever (but only by the person with the claim, hence why LBD's marks linger on mac. She never removed them). They're mostly drawn on, but there is also an element of souls having certain patterns. The gold swirls on mac Wukong drew, but the dots formed naturally. Similarly, mac drew the purple swirls on Wukong, but the wisps formed on their own.
Wukong's original claim mark faded and broke when LBD did her whole Thing (and also other stuff but mostly LBD). Mac's faded when he died and was resurrected, but never broke completely until LDB messes him up real bad in core.
Oh and last thing, people can claim and be claimed by multiple people. Multiple claims multiple claim marks.

*Rin Muhou Havoc.
A lot has changed since these three have gained the power of a physical form. My dear Mow has gone missing so I’ll have to write the logs manually…
As I said before, Rin Muhou is an adoptive child of Chikao Muhou, the Red Buttocked Horse Monkey. (It’s a Baboon…why is this his full name? It’s literally just a Baboon) They were the first to have problems regarding gaining her physical form, thus Mow decided to give her shapeshifting. This was actually a problem for me, I didn’t express it much in my last log, but Mow turned them into physical beings….without my permission…
Anyway…she was rewarded for their spectacular feat in changing the mind of The Jade Emperor, which is a spectacular achievement considering The Azure Lion, a long-time Celestial was turned away for his ‘oversight and vision’ of this world…honestly why did the boy even try? At least The Havocs ensured that they wouldn’t cause Chaos anymore when they had children…though I wonder if the Bermuda Triangle counts…She also defended Wukong against the 10 Kings who most notably did the most stupidest thing I’ve seen in a while, because how the fuck did you forget the Monkey King has a lock on his door? Then again they were up against a child…imagine getting dropped kicked by a child in court, that’s hilarious. Especially if you’re like a millennia old god like the 10 Kings and The Jade Emperor.
Rin has gone through so much in these past…gee I don’t even know how many arcs there were…the chaos seems to spread within her children as they plummet into the depths that his the chaotic adventures of old.
I remember she lost an arm? How did that happen again?
Antonio Muhou Havoc (Or Shifu)
Most of my data of him is the same…Got adopted, joined the mafia, disappeared for 13 years. Died, revived, err…did he die again or was that Rin? No wait it was Mathias…nah…I’m getting them mixed up…Jesus…
He got pregnant with twins (Yes that can happen even though he’s a dude) and still continued his work in the mafia, he’s a family-oriented guy, a sweet husband, with the power to summon whatever he wants at will. He has two siblings, (Biological) who still work a clothing shop in Megapolis, they helped with Zazhu’s wedding dress, which looked so nice by the way. Love their sense of taste. I will add that the guy has abandonment issues and self-worth issues to work on. But Rin seems to have the guilty trauma and low self-esteem.
Mathias Muhou Havoc.
Aroace and an emotional guy, who loves potions. And science, give this guy a lab coat, some gloves and goggles and you have yourself Tongbei’s little mad scientist in crime. (Seriously Tongbei CANNOT make a proper potion at times, do NOT trust him to make poison for you, because likely he will kill instead of incapacitate)
Might act all tough but he’s a soft cookie for his family. He was once a villain named ‘Xiu’ the guy that gave him identity issues due to Paramita’s Mask…he keeps blaming himself, but seriously, you can’t blame yourself for wanting attention, that’s just basic human stuff mate.
I’m not even going to add his past life, because I know a large number of people in this community will end up dead-naming him and I will personally break anyone’s neck so should that happen. However, Mathias died due to suffocation, due to his Mask that got glued to him when he died. I now realized the reason why Mow chose disintegrating power, because she thought it’d be ‘funny’ to let the guy who died from suffocation, have the ability to technically suffocate his enemies in ASH. I find her humor quite concerning…
And lastly is Zazhu Shifu (Or Muhou Havoc)
I placed a separate log for him actually because I noticed something concerning about him…
But you didn’t hear that from me…perhaps he’s here because he’s Antonio’s husband.
Zazhu Shifu is the Brother of the Great Monk’s reincarnate, ‘Tang Shifu’ he is the first born of a very shitty family, who cared no less of him and abandoned him in the car to die of heatstroke (Yes they literally wanted to kill him.) fortunately he was miraculously saved when the mafia he joined, accidentally kidnapped him too and brought him to the leader, whom eventually adopted him as his own.
Cue years later, and Zazhu fixed his relationship with Tang (It was strained due to their parents) and eventually the brothers rebelled against their parents, living happily under the comfort of their husbands and children.
Zazhu is a skilled mortal, with no magical capabilities, his main weapon is a gun (obviously) and he has abnormal speed and agility, being able to dodge bullets even on the run. There are rumors that he also has high-pain tolerance, though I’m not sure if that theory is true…
Then there’s his connection as Tang’s brother…I’m just wondering if there are any side effects…
Oh well…can’t place that here, can I?

Followers ignore this post please for the love of the gods
Semi spicy noodles fic but it's poly with friends oc and my OC calling Redson a dumbass
I just wanted a word vomit leav me alone
Word count: 1.5k
My OC: Ashra
Friends OC: Sol
This was not what Redson wanted to occupy most of his mind. He was supposed to be working his latest automobile, silently listening to the music Sol put on even after Redson’s protests that the tunes would make her brain melt through his ears. Sol just rolled its eyes and plugged in a speaker.
But Redson’s mind wandered as they continued to make adjustments to the engine. He kicked himself every time he thought back to brunette wielding Sun Wukong's staff, with the brightest smile on his face.
He didn't have time to reminisce back to the time he found him in the desert and noticed how his brown eyes turned to honey gold when in the sun.
Didn’t need to cringe at the time Redson got crushed by the thief when they first met and noticed how cute his frown can be when he gets confused.
He shouldn’t think about this. He shouldn’t. Why is he?
“Reds?”
The soft voice of his companion brought Redson back to reality. She looked over her shoulder to see Sol coming up behind her, red and white tails swishing behind him. Reds turned fully to face him, seeing his ears tilted downwards slightly. Reds smirked.
“I don’t think I’ve done anything worthy or worrying you sprite” She stated.
Sol raised an eyebrow, and pointed at the table where Redson was currently working on. Reds took a look at what it was pointing at, which caused her hair to start to combust.
“WHY IS THE ENGINE SMOKING??” They shrieked, quickly controlling the heat around them and lowering it to make the engine cool down. Sol stood with his arms crossed, watching Reds with scanning eyes.
Redson shrunk a bit under its gaze. Sol had a knack at telling when Reds was off for one reason or another. And he could definitely tell now. Redson sighed as she finished up, reaching over to her thermos and taking a sip as she walked away to cool off.
“Niu Redson.” Sol said. Redson froze. Even her parents never used her full name when they were in their murderous rampages. Redson didnt even do anything! At least to their knowledge…
“Who is plaguing your thoughts this time?” Sol grinned, trotting over with his mischievous smile spread across his face and tail moving side to side in a slow manner.
Redson stammered, stepping back from the closeness. She could feel her cheeks heat up more and more the longer Sol started at them for an answer.
“Wha-what? I am not thinking of anything dear!” Redson insisted. Sol tilted its head and raised an eyebrow.
“… It’s nothing for you my darling.” Sol sighed, leaning back again and crossing his arms once more.
“Y’know I don’t believe you, panda~.” Sol teased. Redson scoffed, pushing Sols face away from theirs. It has been a century since Ash gave them both those stupid plushies for their ‘meetaversary’, and Sol still hasn’t let the joke die.
“It’s nothing I swear. I can figure things out on my own Sol.” Redson stated, and strode away, effectively ending the conversation between him and his fox.
What Redson didn;t account for however, is the ally Sol had on speedial.
And so the ambush occurred as Redson exited his much needed shower, sitting himself in front of his vanity and reaching for his brush. Running the ornate brush through her hair. He sighed, taking a few moments to finally relax. He loved this ritual, the privacy of his quarters let him actually have his hair down, his guard down. Unsurprisingly, this let the walls around his mind down again.
Redson found herself enjoying the image of instead of herself brushing her hair, she saw the reflection of Wukongs successor brushing her hair in the mirror, smiling as he gently undid the knots and tangles that came with the hair of the heir to the Demon Bull lineage.
Redson could feel the smile stretch across their lips, but let it happen. They chided themself lightly but dropped it. The delusions were necessary at times to make her not lose her mind over the pining.
Ugh, such a demeaning word for it.
‘But isn’t it more demeaning that I]you fell for him?’
Oh shush.
Redson exhaled sharply, tossing the hairbrush back on the vanity. Maybe the thoughts became too self aware.
“You good scamp?”
Redson’s blood ran cold. Only one annoyance of his used the nickname. And it was the last one he needed.
“Ashra, who gave you permission to enter?” Redson sneered, staring into the mirror to meet the eyes on the warrior leaning on the bed. Ashra smirked, showing off her snaggletooth against her blue skin.
“Awwwww, is that a way to greet a guest? And Sol invited me in, thanks for askin,” She responded, walking up behind Redson and taking the brush in her own hands and continuing what Redson started.
“What are you doing?” Redson questioned. Ashra smiled, the tips of her pointed ears going up.
“Brushing you hair~” She replied. Redson eyed her as she hummed a tune, gently pulling at the red strands with the brush.
“Soooo…. A little fox told me someone is keeping their feelings bottled up again.” Ashra sang out. Redson hair started to steam, which made Ashra chuckle.
“Can’t hide shit from me boy.” She snickered. Redson grumbled, but let her continue work through their hair.
“It’s fine.” Redson insisted.
“Last time you said that, it was about Sol. Who is it this time?”
Buddha, why?
“No one”
“You’re steaming more dude.”
Shit
“…Fuck off.” They said, attempting to get up until Ashra pushed them back down.
“Don’t try that bad boy prince of edge persona on me, pretty boy.” Ashra said, putting the brush back down and sectioning Reds hair into threes.
“You don’t have to tell me, but you know you should at least tell Sol. You know how he gets when you hide something from it.” Ashra reminded them. Redson hummed in acknowledgement, agreeing.
“And talk it out. With full transparency might I add.” Redson groaned, but nodded.
“Great! Sol, get your ass over here!” Redson lurched in their chair as Sol scurried out from under the bed, leaping as it transformed into its human form, giggling as it sat on the vanity.
“Well?” Sol pushed, draping its tails over Reds lap. Redson breathed in and out slowly, tangling their fingers in its fur. They needed to do this.
“It’s… ugh, do I have to say it?” Redson pleaded. Both of the demons gave death glares to the prince. They sighed, and ran their fingers through the white to red coat.
“This feels like an interrogation.”
“Would you rather it be a therapy session?” Ashra quipped.
“…it’s noodle boy,” Redson whispered. Sols’ ears perked up at that, as well as a slight blush. Ashra pufferies her cheeks, holding back her laughter.
“…You too?” Sol inquired.
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN ME TOO?!?” Redson blew up, her hair bursting into flames. Ashra let out her cackles, holding her stomach as her snorts filled the room as well as the crackles of the flames.
“Well… he’s cute and he’s very enjoyable company while I work at Pigsy’s, and when we hang out.”
“I forgot you got a peasant job to get away from me,” Redson teased. Sol smacked them with its tail, but the blush persisted.
“Oh this is quality entertainment.” Ashra commented, taking a rubber band from Sol’s outstretched wrist.
“Like you're any better, Miss Pine.” Sol shot back. Ashra rolled her eyes, but the newly red tips of her ears gave away her emotions.
“I’m trying to move on, thank you. I doubt either of those simians would even go for me anyways. And we are focusing on you guys.” She pointed out.
“Alright, then lets.” Sol determined, “Reds, do you want to be in a relationship with MK?”
“I-I, um….yes? No? I don’t know!” Redson groaned, hair starting to smoke. Ashra sighed, and put her hands on the shoulders of the two lovebirds.
“Alright, let’s settle this. Reds, do you want to hold hands with MK?”
“Uhhh, yes. If he’s comfortable with it.”
“Sol?”
“Duh.”
“Ok how about cuddling?”
“Like how me and Sol do? I don’t mind.”
“Sol?”
“Me and MK do anyways, so yes.”
“Final question: Kissing. Reds?”
“I, uh. Ummm… yeah. Yeah that doesn’t sound too bad.”
“Sol?”
“I don’t mind!”
“Great! Then looks like y’all are in agreement! Now ask go MK!”
“WAIT, how do we know he likes us back?” Redson questioned. Ashra just smiled, ruffled his hair, and gave him this piece of advice.
“Ask him you dumbass. Good luck!” With that, she sprinted out the window into the sunset.
“… Does he like us?” Redson turned to his fox companion, who just looked over and shrugged.
“We’ll have to see.”

Act 2 and 3
Tbh, out of all 3 Acts of “From Here the Rain Falls,” the third one is the murkiest. I have it planned out, but it might change a lot from my mind before it gets on the keyboard. I honestly thought the story would only be 2 Acts, but then I got carried away lol. What I know about Act 3 is that it’s definitely going to have at least 3 chapters worth of monkey medical drama and one count of Puti courtroom drama.
Maybe Act 3 spoilers down here?
Act 2 came out the way I wanted for the most part, but some of the most drastic changes are:
Bajie and Wujing were supposed to beat the shit out of Wukong together in ch. 21, but Wujing developed into another direction and I scrapped that because it wouldn’t make sense. Also, Wukong passed out here- Ao Lie was supposed to come and save him, before we jumped to the “there’s so much blood, big brother” moment and then Xiao Bailong’s big sacrifice.
^ That was all changed because at the rate Wukong was going in the climax, he wouldn’t go down that easily. And the biggest change- Lingang/King of Spiritual Touch- wasn’t part of Huang Feng’s group in the initial ideas. So Wukong actually got messed up even more than intended lol
Tudi/Zhenyuanzi/the servants weren’t part of the climax, but it felt right to let them be there. Zhenyuanzi especially wasn’t supposed to become one of the major characters, but he did somehow.
And at the finale, Huang Feng was going to rip Wukong’s heart out and eat it (maybe in front of Xuanzang to fully parallel JTTW 13), but somehow Wukong would survive that lmao. This was removed after I saw Wu Kong and its stone heart idea- I didn’t want the chapter to mimic it. But in my defense, the heart would have done nothing for Huang Feng; it was just my way of proving Wukong’s literally flesh and blood now. Huang Feng would have done it because he’s a dick.
I remember more tweaks, but that’s a post for another time! Maybe after I get around to writing ch. 24 and ending Act 2.
Now, for possible Act 3 spoilers that may or may not change! Written for personal reference and if anyone’s curious:
Xuanzang meets Puti
We spent 2 Acts with Wukong getting jealous over Xuanzang; there might be one instance in Act 3 where it’s Xuanzang getting jealous of [redacted] over Wukong ;)
Nezha cameo
What if I decided to be super cheesy and unnecessarily dramatic, and threw in an amnesia subplot on top of everything else Wukong has to recover from??
Return to Moonfield?

OKAY. I maaay have went overboard.
I got the tiniest scrap of praise for my idea of Monkey King not knowing that mortals don’t die when they get sick that I wrote a whole fic.
Also, I’m not 100% sure what I’m doing but eh when has that ever stopped me?
Word count: 4,672
Magic Fruit
Endurance training sucked.
That was the only thought racing through Mk’s mind as he trekked up the side of flower fruit mountain. On the surface, scaling a mountain didn’t seem too horrible, but it was pouring rain and Mk had weights strapped to his arms and legs.
“You’ll be fine bud! A little hike won’t kill you. Plus, I’ll be around just in case something happens.” Monkey king had assured him just mere hours earlier.
At this point Mk wished the hike would just kill him instead of dragging out this new breed of suffering any longer.
It had all been going so well until it started to rain. Rain made things a hell of a lot harder. It was slippery, it was cold, it was wet, and all around not ideal for someone with weights strapped to their limbs.
In the city, rains were scheduled. On flowerfruit mountain however there was no such thing.
Pushing himself up on the top of yet another ledge Mk groaned and rolled over, letting droplets hit his face as he worked up the energy to continue. He could almost taste the finish line.
Ever since the Macaque incident, Monkey King had started upping the training. Whether it be sparring or learning new techniques of how to outclass his enemies, Mk was absorbing this new knowledge like sunlight into a flower.
This lesson had to be Mk’s least favorite however.
Looking to the left, his gaze fell onto a winding tree growing from a crack in the cliff face. It’s branches extend above where he lay, it’s leaves providing the smallest protection from the downpour.
Mk thought back to what Monkey King had told him
“Once you find the only birch tree on the mountain, you’ll be less than ten minutes from the top! So look out for birch trees and you’ll be fine.”
Relief made Mk’s shoulders sag as he let out a shaky laugh.
After a few more moments of blissful respite, Mk hauled himself upwards. Sparing one last glance back at the birch tree before turning towards the way onward. If he rested too long he was just going to fall asleep and that would be a problem.
Jumping up onto a boulder that lay at the base of the path, Mk took a second to map out what the easiest route would be. The rocks were steep and he didn’t have his staff, so he’d have to be careful.
After a bit of quiet musing, Mk jumped from one rock to another giving all of his remaining energy to scaling the steep slope that stood before him. Not noticing the little sparks of yellow magic dancing on his skin as he bounded upwards.
Finally, FINALLY, Mk’s hand slapped down on the highest ledge of flowerfruit mountain. Gasping with relief, Mk pulled himself upwards. He looked up to see a familiar cloud floating just above the ground. What wasn’t familiar though, was Monkey King soaking wet, his fur almost covering his eyes completely.
Oh he HAD to get a picture. Mei would love this.
“Monkey king?”
The great sage looked startled and shook himself vigorously, not unlike a dog that had fallen off a pier.
“Hey bud! You did it.”
“Can I please take these off now?” Mk gestured at the straps on both his arms and legs.
“I don’t know, can you—“
Wukong’s dad joke was cut off by his successor throwing one of the weighted bands at him with surprising strength all things considered.
“HEY! That was rude.”
Mk was too busy undoing the rest of them to even reply but Wukong saw a small smirk spread across the kid’s face. It was nice. It reminded the great sage of a simpler time.
“What’s with the hairdo?” Mk finally asked.
“I’m not made for water”
“I can see that”
“You’re just mad that you don’t have hair as luxurious as mine”
“As if”
Mk tried to get up, but his overworked muscles decided otherwise, so Mk fell backwards, butt first into a puddle. After a moment of silence Monkey king started to laugh and Mk’s expression softened from annoyance to exhaustion.
“You know what? This is fine. I accept my fate.” Mk decided, sprawling out in the puddle.
“Bud. You have to get up. You can’t sleep there.” Monkey King snorted.
“Why?”
“It’s not comfortable. Trust me kid, I’ve slept in the rain before, the next morning you get all soggy”
“Maybe that’s just ‘cause you’re covered in fur like a hamster” Mk teased back, it was a random animal but Mk was in a random mood.
But nonetheless he found himself looking up for the reaction Monkey King was inevitably going to have.
The offended gasp from the monkey was worth whatever punishment would follow. Mk started laughing as he was lifted effortlessly into the air by Monkey King’s tail which was now wrapped around his ankle.
“I’m taking you home.” Monkey King decided, swinging his apprentice under his arm.
“Wait what? Nononono it’s okay I can vault back—“ Mk argued trying to squeeze his way out from his grasp, to no avail.
“Too late already decided!” Monkey King exclaimed. The cloud was already moving and Mk could object no longer.
Flying through the rain was a nice change of pace to climbing in it, but nonetheless he was cold.
“I know you’re probably going to be tired tomorrow, but you can pop by any time for some easier training.” Monkey King said out of the blue.
“Really?”
“Really. Anytime.”
“Alright then, I’ll take you up on that promise!” Mk beamed. Maybe Monkey King would show him some cool magic stuff! Or maybe they would work on shapeshifting? Either way, Mk was excited.
A piercing light filtered through the veil of restless sleep Mk was currently hiding behind. There was a flash of annoyance that was followed by a wave of fever. Pulling the blankets over his head the best he could, Mk curled tighter into himself and tried to go back to sleep.
*beep* *beep* *beep* *beep*
*beep* *bee—
The alarm clock was viscerally destroyed as it was thrown against the wall with enough force to leave an indent. It wasn’t even a clock anymore, it was just broken scraps now sat pathetically on the floor.
Mk grumbled to himself and resettled into his cocoon of blankets. Satisfied that the most aggravating sound in the world was dead by his hand.
Wait. That was his alarm clock.
He only has his alarm clock set if he’s about to sleep through his shift!
HIS SHIFT
Scrambling out of bed, Mk falters and grabs his dresser to steady himself. The world was dipping under his feet and his head was light. Sinking to the floor, Mk hid his head in his knees, taking some deep breaths.
“You’ll be fine. I’m fine! I’ll feel better after some breakfast.” He assured himself
But Mk didn’t want breakfast, his stomach churned just as angrily as the floor underneath him. Nevertheless, Mk hauled himself up to get dressed.
After way too long of a time to take to get clothes on, Mk slinkes downstairs, gripping the handrail like his life depended on it.
He could hear Pigsy humming to himself while he cooked, causing Mk to stop. Maybe he won’t notice? It’s just a cold after all, he can power through a cold.
Pigsy notices on sight.
Mk was never one to sleep in, and the kid practically stumbled downstairs looking spacey and feverish.
“Hey Mk, you doing alright?”
“Yeah I’m fine, sorry I slept in. Training with Monkey king ya know?”
“Mhm.”
“So do you have any deliveries yet or…?” Mk felt Pigsy’s stare go right through him with a silent judgment of ‘we both know you're sick’
“Nope. Go back to bed.” Pigsy looked away from him and back to the kitchen.
“But I’m fine! Seriously!” Mk argued leaning over the counter, hopping onto one of the stools.
The bells above the entrance chimed, signaling that a customer had arrived. Mk barely even looked up, there was only one person who could time his morning walk to the exact moment Pigsy’s noodles opened.
“Mk, you look dreadful.” Was the first words out of the scholar's mouth.
“Hello to you too Mr Tang.” Mk grumbled, pushing himself upright.
“Anyways guys, I’m fine! It’s just a cold. I can work through a cold!”
Pigsy and Tang shared a silent look. Pigsy tilted his head towards Mk and gave a subtle nod, to which Tang sighed and rolled up his sleeves.
“Whatever you two just agreed on, don’t do it.” Mk slid himself off of the stool he was sitting on and away from Tang who was being scarily quiet at the moment.
It was a common occurrence for Pigsy and Tang to converse without even opening their mouths, but almost every time that Mk was the subject of said almost telepathic conversation, it ended in him having to take care of himself either by force or the sheer terror of what would happen if he didn’t.
This was one of those times.
Lunging forward with speed Mk didn’t know the scholar could muster, Tang grabbed his arm and started pulling Mk towards the stairs that lead up to his apartment.
“I’ll bring medicine and some easy food after the first rush” Pigsy called after the two.
“THIS IS TREACHERY!” Mk screeched back, still surprised that Mr Tang was successfully dragging him upstairs. Maybe he was sicker than he originally thought, if Tang was overpowering him.
If Mk was going down, he wasn’t going down without a fight.
In one last act of rebellion, Mk let his body go fully limp in Mr Tang’s grasp.
What happened next was a series of thumps, a scream from the scholar and Mk’s cackling as he lay at the bottom step of the stairway.
Mk’s laughter only dimmed when he looked up to see Pigsy looming over him menacingly.
However, the look on Pigsy’s face, the nervous snickering habit he picked up from Monkey King, and the high fever, were all more than enough for Mk to dissolve into uncontrollable giggles.
Pigsy let his expression soften before shaking his head and grabbing Mk by the waist. Carryinging him up the stairs himself. Passing by a mortified Tang who has stayed unmoving since he dropped the kid.
They were over halfway up the stairs when everything went fuzzy and Mk closed his eyes.
Next thing Mk knew, he was waking up in his room. The curtains were drawn and the little sunlight he could see gave away that he had been sleeping for at least a few hours.
Everything felt hazy and his throat was dry. A million things flashed through his mind, each one canceling the others out. He almost felt worse than when he woke up the first time.
The mind fog lifted somewhat when he heard two pairs of footsteps ascending the stairs. One was slow and purposeful while the other pair flat out sprinted towards his room.
“Mk!” A familiar voice called out.
Before he even had time to respond, the door slammed open and there stood a concerned looking Mei.
“Oh my god you look dead”
“Thanks.”
“Hey. What did I tell you about bein’ quiet? He needs his rest.”
“Sorry Pigsy.” Mei whispered, stepping out of the way of the cook entering the room. Balanced in his hands was a tray full of medicine, a bowl of noodles, a thermometer gun, and a can of ginger ale.
“Aww Pigsy you didn’t have to, really. It’s just a cold”
Both Mei and Pigsy deadpanned at him.
“You were deliriously giggling after falling down the stairs, it’s not just a cold anymore.” Pigsy huffed, setting the tray down on the nearby nightstand.
“Tang called me in for reinforcements,” Mei mused, settling herself down on the ground. “The way he described it, he made it sound like you were on death's door. And honestly? It doesn’t look like he was too far off”
“Wow okay. I see how it is—“ Mk cut off his own words with a violent coughing fit. It was as if the universe was proving Mei’s point.
Pigsy shoved the thermometer gun at Mk’s temple whilst he was hacking up his left lung. A quiet beep sounded and the cook grimaced when he read the temperature.
“What is it?” Mei asked, leaning over to better see the result.
“103°”
“…is that bad?”
“Somewhat. He’ll be fine, but we need to bring the fever down. Otherwise—”
“Guys”
A gravelly voice interrupted the train of thought the two were going down.
“I’m fine”
“No you’re not!” Mei argued.
“Yes I am.”
“Not.”
“Yes”
“No”
“Yes I am”
“Mk, you couldn’t get up if you tried.” Mei huffed, crossing her arms before realizing that challenging Mk probably wasn’t a good thing to do right now.
Mk loved proving people wrong with a passion. as soon as the words left her mouth Mk hauled himself out from bed, gripping the side table as he balanced himself.
“See? I’m fine—AGH OKAY” Mk began but never finished his sentence as he crumpled back into his bed, rubbing his temples.
“What’s wrong? Are you okay? What’s happening” Mei asked frantically, shoving her way towards the bed.
“Dizzy” Mk mumbled, squeezing his eyes shut.
“You’re going to be more than dizzy if you try that again.” Pigsy muttered before sighing.
“Tang will be up with some cold water and a washcloth for your head. As long as you take the meds, drink the ginger ale and eat, you’ll be fine in no time.”
“Even the gross syrup?” Mk whined with desperation gleaming in his eyes.
“Even the gross syrup. I’ll be downstairs, and Mei?”
The dragon girl perked up
“Get him to take his medicine by any means necessary.” Pigsy said with a smirk before closing the door behind him.
Mei’s evil smile spread across her face as she turned towards her best friend.
Pigsy just chuckled when he heard sounds of fear and varying amounts of pillow violence from upstairs.
-
It was a typical morning on Flowerfruit mountain. (Well aside from the fact that it was late afternoon.) and Sun Wukong had woken to a soft breeze brushing past him. That and the fact that his phone was buzzing.
Slamming his hand on the side table, he blindly felt around for his phone. He rarely used the thing but Mk had shown him how to work it, and he can’t say he didn’t like texting his successor or browsing social media.
Finally locating the slim hunk of metal, he pulled it towards him.
Mk’s contact had texted him.
“Hey monkey king! This is Mei. Mk is sick and can’t train today. He’s out of it so I’m texting you for him. He wouldn’t rest unless I told you. Sooo bye! :) ”
“Oh also Mk says hi”
Monkey king read the text a few times over not believing what he was seeing.
Now, Sun Wukong may be powerful and have lived for thousands of years, but he never really got the hang with how humans work. He himself had not been sick since he left his staff for a successor to wield all those years ago. He had almost forgotten what it felt like.
When he had been sick, he swore he felt the icy claws of death piercing his skin, ready to finally drag him to the beyond. Even though a certain grumpy monkey had told him he was being dramatic and that it was the “common cold” or something like that.
But Monkey King knew what he felt. After all, the only human he had ever seen sick, passed away shortly after. He was certain, if he hadn’t been immortal, he would’ve died from the “common cold” or whatever it was called.
So the knowledge that his very much mortal successor was sick did not go over well with the Monkey King.
Immediately he scrambled out of bed and basically flew for drawers where he kept trinkets he found over the years. Where he began frantically combing through the various shiny things he collected.
“Where is it? Where is it? Where is it? Where is it? Where is it?”
Monkey King’s searching became increasingly hectic with every drawer looked through.
Finally a small familiar item caught his attention. In the last drawer he checked in, there sat inconspicuously, a wooden box. beautifully carved with tales of the distant past. Monkey King opened the box and grasped the old key. With a sigh of relief, he chucked the box carelessly over his shoulder.
Not pausing a moment more he whirled around, sprinting towards the living room carpet. Folding it over, Monkey King pulled up the three loose floorboards he had placed years before.
There, in a small hole, lay an even more intricately carved box. Except this time it was a chest with jewels and gold paint detailing all too familiar stories.
Monkey king as gently as he possibly could, picked up the chest as if it was alive.
Pressing it close to him, he summoned his cloud.
-
Mk was on the verge of sleep.
After trying and failing to pretend he was okay, he finally admitted that he was sick. Especially after Mei had held his stuffed monkey hostage until he had taken his medicine and eaten some noodles.
Mei was watching vine compilations next to him as a distraction. But with the medicine, yesterday’s training, and plain old illness, he was drifting off.
Until of course a familiar bird slammed full speed into Mk’s window with something held tightly in its claws.
“You know what? I’m going to sleep.” Mk declared as his mentor ever so slowly slid off the window.
There was hesitatence in the air.
“Was that…?” Mei started to ask before the same bird from before unceremoniously scrambled it’s way back up the windowsill.
“Yes.” Mk mumbled into his blankets.
Any other questions Mei had were drowned out by the high pitched frantic chirps coming from the other side of the glass.
“You should probably let him in”
“I was thinking the same thing.” Mei supposed, rolling out from where she sat next to Mk, she stepped towards the window. Unlatching the locks, she heaved open the window. Subsequently standing aside.
The now seemingly recovered Monkey King tumbled into his successor's bedroom, shifting into his natural form, still gripping an object that Mk could now see was a box of sorts with a lock on it.
“Monkey King what’s—”
“Nope, shuddap. Here.” Monkey King darted towards him and shoved one peach flavored snack or other into Mk’s mouth. While he fumbled with a key.
“Uhm okay I'm going to get Pigsy…” Mei trailed off, sensing the storm to come, she quietly stepped outside the bedroom door before sprinting down to the floor below.
Monkey King didn’t even look up. He sat at the end of Mk’s bed and placed the box down in between mentor and student.
“What are you doing here? Is it because I couldn’t go to training? ‘Cause if that’s the case I can make it up I swear—” Mk’s hoarse ramblings were cut off by a shake of Monkey King’s head.
Wukong gingerly unlocked the ornate lock on the small chest and opened it carefully, almost like he was afraid just by touching it would turn it to dust.
MK, who wasn’t sick enough to not be curious, peered over from where he lay under two blankets.
And there, atop a beautifully embroidered pillow, sat a peach. It almost seemed to glow with all the colors of the sunset.
“Is that....?” MK wanted to ask more of a coherent question, but it died in his throat.
Monkey King picked up the peach with such gentle movements his successor almost couldn’t believe his mentor was capable of, confirming Mk’s suspicions of what exactly this was.
Monkey King looked up to meet Mk’s gaze for the first time since he entered Mk’s apartment and paused. Then, he started to shove the peach towards his successor's face.
“woahwoahwoahwoAHWOAH HEY LET'S TALK ABOUT THIS”
“No, you’re sick! Eat it!”
“Monkey King, it's just a cold!”
“Mk.”
“Okay! fine. It’s a little worse than a cold. but I’m not deathly—STOP TRYING TO SHOVE IT IN MY MOUTH”
“But if humans get sick they die!” Monkey King blurted out, looking serious for the first time since Mk had met him, his face veiled in worry.
No??” Mk struggled out, his grip on Monkey King’s arm lessening. “Usually it’s nothing and all we need is rest for a few days.”
“What? But I-”
Monkey King was cut off by the door slamming open. In all the commotion neither student or teacher heard the gruff cook storm up the stairs.
“Uh oh”
“Heyy Pigsy!” Monkey King greeted with a familiar smile.
“If you don’t stop trying to feed the kid a magic fruit we’re going to have a problem.”
“Magic fruit? Uh…”
Wukong, realizing he was caught red handed in what he was rapidly putting together was an obvious blunder, did the only thing he could and hid the peach behind his back.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
There was a moment of silence from Pigsy, the only indicator of his inner dialogue was a twitch of an eyebrow.
“…If you’re the bird that flew face first into the door downstairs and cracked the glass just now I swear to the gods, you’re as good as dead.”
Monkey King’s smile widened, accompanied by a nervous twitch of his tail.
“No?” He tried to deny it but faltered when he saw the chef's expression.
“Go. Fix it. NOW.” Pigsy seethed.
“Mhm, yep, on it.” Monkey King agreed.
“Oh! Wait, give me one second..” And In a blink of the eye, the peach was safely locked away in the chest once again.
The chest was now safely in Monkey King’s arms as he guiltily shuffled past the gruff cook and down the stairs.
Pigsy looked on until he no longer could see the Sage’s feet before turning to Mk.
“Old fool doesn’t know anything about mortals—woah, you alright kid? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
Mk was frozen. Sitting dumbfounded on his bed.
“Kid?”
“He thought I was dying.” Mk whispered.
“Uh, yeah but you aren’t.”
“Remember Mr Tang’s stories? Monkey King stole the immortal peaches centuries ago.”
“Yeah?”
“After saving it for centuries, he would’ve given me his last immortal peach if I was dying.”
Mk murmured in disbelief.
Pigsy paused for a moment. “I guess I didn’t think about it that way.”
Mk was processing the weight that came with this new realization. Not saying a word as he stared where his mentor had sat on his bed, unbelieving of what had just occurred.
His existential crisis was put on pause by a sneeze, shortly thereafter followed by a coughing fit to end all coughing fits.
“HeLP mE” Mk wheezed lightheartedly between the coughs, beginning to laugh when he saw Pigsy’s disgusted expression.
“Ya know what? I’ll send Tang up with tea.” Pigsy huffed as he made for the door.
“Will you send Monkey King up too?” Mk asked. “If he’s still here of course.”
Pigsy nodded and softly closed the door behind him.
Tang was up a few minutes later with honeyed tea for Mk’s throat. The window, which had never been closed, was doing wonders for it as well. Something about cold air was so refreshing to breathe.
“Oh and..Monkey King left.” Tang had informed Mk before taking his leave downstairs.
“Aww I wanted to say bye” Mk grumbled
“I wanted to make fun of him.” Mei giggled from the end of his bed.
“Why?”
“How does someone not know that not all sickness kills humans?”
Mk hesitated for a moment.
“Wait a second, how did he not know? He’s been alive for thousands of years!”
“That’s what I was thinking! He must really not get out much.” She mused.
“Okay I resent that.” A familiar voice sounded from the open window. There on the cramped windowsill sat Monkey King.
“Monkey King!”
“You resent it because it’s true.” Mei teased.
“Hey, I get out!” He argued.
“When was the last time you went to the city that wasn’t to fight a demon?” She retorted.
There was a pause and several nervous sweeps of a tail before the monkey king mustered out a “toché” and settled down on the floor.
“What are you doing here?” Mk asked, wincing at how creaky his voice sounded.
“Hanging out.” Monkey King responded, pulling out a seemingly normal peach and a pocket knife.
“I had to pop by the mountain to bring the—how did Pigsy put it?”
“Magic fruit?”
“—Magic fruit back where it belongs.” His grip shifted on the peach as he continued to skillfully slice it.
“That was an awfully sweet thing to do Mr King” Mei taunted, a smug grin spreading across her face.
“CEASE” mentor and student said in sync.
“Alright alright! Sorry for pointing out that you obviously have a father son dyna—HEY OW”
Monkey King smirked at his student’s good aim with a pillow as Mei pouted.
Satisfied with the wedges he cut into the fruit, Wukong grabbed an unused plate from the array of sick offerings on Mk’s nightstand, setting the peach on it and gently handing it to Mk.
“This isn’t a Magic fruit is it?” Mk croaked.
“Nope! I got it from flowerfruit mountain. I swear.”
Mk hummed and tentatively popped a slice into his mouth. Immediately lightening up, he shoved another in as well.
“Is it good, Mk?” Mei teased from the foot of his bed.
Mk nodded before eating another slice. Monkey King once again sat near the window, tossing the remaining peach pit from one hand to the other.
“I have to ask…how did Mk even get this sick?” Mei questioned. Mk made vague gestures with his hands before returning to the call of the fruit.
“Uh well…” Monkey King began awkwardly, tail swishing on the ground.
“Endurance training…?”
Mei raised an eyebrow.
“He told me to climb a mountain with weights on my arms and legs for endurance training and it started to rain halfway through.” Mk explained, his plate now wiped clean.
Mei’s expression morphed into that of judgment.
“That sucks. Maybe don’t do that in the rain.”
Mk tried to muster up an argument but instead decided to let flop deeper into the pillows.
“You should’ve seen him with wet fur.”
“You’ve peaked my interest”
“Hey hey hey there’s no need to talk about me in the rain. Guys?”
But alas, the great sage equal to heaven’s attempt to derail an embarrassing conversation failed.
“Did you get a photo?”
“Who do you think I am? Of course I got a photo.”
Mk didn’t even have to open his eyes to know that Monkey King was already crafting a plan to grab his phone
“—And before you try it Monkey King, I already emailed myself a backup on two accounts”
There was a groan of frustration and two tail thumps on the ground.
Mei grinned, hopping up from where she sat.
“Send it to me when you wake up okay?”
Mk gave a thumbs up.
“Alrighty, I’ll be back tomorrow to check on you.” Mei picked up her bag and strided to the door.
“Goodbye Mei”
“Bye loser! Oh! And it was nice to talk to you, Mr King!”
Mei called from beyond the door. Swinging closed, the door clicked shut, leaving Monkey King and his drowsy successor alone.
Wukong signed
“Get better soon, bud.”
He was halfway out the window preparing to shift when he heard Mk mumble something.
He found himself leaning back in the room in an effort to hear his student better.
“Come again?”
“Thank you…for both peaches.”
Silence reigned for a moment.
“You’re welcome.”
And when Mk opened his eyes a few seconds later, the monkey king was gone.

@skellebonez Happy Birthday!!! i have written this fic for you, please enjoy.
-
'In hindsight, maybe this hadn't been such a good idea.' Was what Macaque thought, as he sat on MK's windowsill, disguised as a cat-
With Wukong, in bird form, standing directly across from him.
Originally, Macaque had decided to hang out around MK's apartment as a cat, purely for recon purposes. Or, well, at least, that's what he told himself. In reality, he was just really concerned about him. But, of course, Macaque wasn't just going to let MK know about that, so the next logical course of action was obviously to spy on him as a cat. Nothing could go wrong with this plan, nothing at all, there would be no unnecessary panic cause by this.
(He ignored how panicked he'd felt when MK had actually opened up his window and let him come in for the first time. Or when MK had started rambling about his day to him. Or when MK had started calling him 'Shadow'. Or when-)
Now though, staring down Wukong, Macaque had to admit, that maybe he hadn't exactly thought this through.
Wukong hopped a bit closer, ruffling his wings a bit, and Macaque lifted one paw to step back, fur bristling as he hissed, which made Wukong pause, head tilting in something akin to amusement.
And then MK opened the window.
"Shadow, what are you hissing at- oh hey Monkey King!" He said, leaning out the window and picking Macaque up, before leaning back to make space for Wukong to change back to normal and enter through the window. Macaque let himself be lifted into the apartment, but sent an intense glare at Wukong as the monkey shifted back to normal, now very obviously looking amused.
"So this is the cat you've been talking about, bud?" He asked, not fully entering the room, instead choosing to sit on the windowsill. "You've been showing up late to practice because you've been distracted talking to this guy?"
"Yeah, why do you ask?" MK set Macaque down on the ground, the shadow monkey quickly moving to put some distance between himself and the other two. "What, are you jealous of a cat?"
"No." Wukong denied, seemingly struggling for a proper response. Macaque watched as the other monkey's eyes lit up with an idea, and oh, Macaque had a feeling he wasn't going to like this. "Just, well, it's a stray cat right?"
"Yeah? Where are you going with this?" MK asked, narrowing his eyes at his mentor in suspicion.
"Well, why don't you just let it live with you?" Wukong asked, and Macaque went still. "I mean, how do you know that it's been eating okay? You should probably get some food for it and all that."
Macaque was right, he hated this idea.
At least MK wouldn't agree to it, he did live above a restaurant after all, it probably wouldn't be a good idea to keep a cat around.
Or at least, that's what Macaque had thought, before he watched with growing horror as MK actually pondered the idea, before eventually-
"Y'know what, that's not that bad of an idea." MK said, and Macaque felt pure terror in his veins.
-
Within a few hours, Macaque found himself with a rather difficult choice to make.
Option one, admit that he was, in fact, not actually a cat. Change back to his normal self, face whatever consequences would definitely come, and then leave.
His other option, was to suck it up and eat the cat food MK had just placed in front of him.
For a few minutes, Macaque just sat there, switching between staring down at the cat food, and staring up at MK's innocent smile.
(Wukong had long since left, a fact that Macaque was very grateful for. He'd rather not have Wukong witness him being treated like an actual cat while full well knowing that he was not.
That said though, the look Wukong had given him as he left did not promise good things.)
Back to the point, the cat food.
If Macaque was being honest (for once), he absolutely did not want to go with the option of eating the cat food.
But....
If he revealed himself, what then? Would he get attacked? Kicked out?
Well, it's not like he had actually been staying here to begin with, but just kinda hanging around was.....nice, almost.
He wasn't so sure he was ready to lose it. (And wasn't that a thought he would have to unpack later....)
Decision made, he leaned over and nibbled a little bit of the cat food.
And almost immediately spat it back out again. Fuck, that was horrible, how could cats actually eat that stuff-
"What's the matter, is your sense of taste too refined for this?" MK asked, and Macaque looked up, seeing the smile on his face and how he was barely holding back laughter, amusement twinkling in his eyes and- oh.
Oh that little shi-
Glaring, Macaque stood up, shapeshifting back to normal.
"You." He said, threateningly pointing at MK. "You've known all along, haven't you."
That seemed to be MK's last straw, as he broke into laughter, leaning up against the counter to keep himself from collapsing completely as he folded over in mirth. (And oh, now Macaque was really glad Wukong had left, he thinks he'd actually die if the other monkey had witnessed all of this.)
"Yeah yeah, laugh it up." Macaque said, crossing his arms and tapping his foot on the floor, his tail lashing back and forth in irritation. "Y'know, I did not expect you to be the kind of person to play the long con."
"And I didn't expect you to be the kind of person that eats cat food!" MK wheezed.
Macaque, seeing no better response, hissed at him, and MK fell to the ground in hysterics.
-
"So was that time with the laser pointer just you getting super into your role of being a cat or-"
"Kid, if you don't forget that happened right now, I will personally introduce you to the concept of amnesia."

Note
we can know about howler's birth (I love your work).
Alright here you go)
It was a Friday night and Macaque had been rudely awoken by what he thought was just a kick. At least for a moment, it would have been the first time he'd woken up by this cub kicking him to hard.
He took a moment to try and let the brat calm down. The baby wasn't calming down though. Something also wasn't right.
He slowly sat up and rubbed his bump trying to pinpoint what his hazy mind was trying to tell him. This pregnancy hadn't been easy since the second trimester started so he had a mental checklist to go through. Yet he could barely think.
"geeze kid you shook me awake so bad I can't think" Macaque said as he got out of bed and took a breath. Maybe if he went to the bathroom things better? Cub calmed down when he was taking bath or sitting in the shower.
However when he started towards the bathroom the pain got worse. Those weren't kicks, oh Fuck those weren't kicks! He leaned against the wall as he started to panic.
His frazzled brain glanced around, Mac needed his phone. Where was his phone? He wasn't do for another 10 weeks! Why was this happening now!? He was alone and he could barely pay attention!
He tried to keep himself steady as he finally spotted his phone. He grabbed it from the dresser and called Syntax. It was all the monkey could think to do.
"Macaque what are you doing up this late? You're supposed to be resting" Syntax said somewhat annoyed, he assumed the monkey probably had a late night craving that Mac wanted him to grab on the way home," is it a craving?"
"baby"" Macaque said as he took a deep breath in and out to try and get his vision straight," something's wrong"
"what is wrong? Why are you breathing like that?" Syntax asked as he went to grab his jacket," speak to me, what's wrong?"
"I'm in labor" Macaque all but choked out, his throat was locking up as he heard stuff crash behind Syntax on the other side of the phone. His distressed coos helped nothing but he couldn't get words to come out.
"stay off your feet I'll be there soon and we'll head straight to the ER okay? I'm leaving now just lay down and I'll be there in five to ten minutes okay?" Syntax said before hanging up. Macaque didn't even get back in bed he just laid on the floor. He took a moment to get a few deep breaths as he tried to ignore his animal instincts.
They were telling him to hide, to hide somewhere with this early baby because if he didn't they'd die. He had to remind himself this wasn't the jungle. Syntax was on his way and everything was going to be okay.
Cub was moving, no no no. Macaque pushed himself up as he felt wet, they weren't even near a hospital yet. Couldn't they wait just a little longer?
"what are you doing on floor?" Syntax asked as he came in and rushed over to Mac. He swatted down as Mac grabbed him.
"their moving!" Macaque said as he gripped Syntax's forearms.Thank god those extra spider legs. Syntax had Mac hold on to those as he checked see if they had any time what so ever.
They did not. In fact Syntax almost missed the birth of their cub if he hadn't left when he did. Macaque passed out a few seconds later.
----
"Why weren't you with him?!" The monkey king hissed as he pinned Syntax against," you knew how hard this entire pregnancy has been on him!"
"how was I supposed to know he'd go into labor early?!" Syntax said as he tried to pry Wukong's hands off his throat while macaque was coming to. His confused coo caused Wukong to drop the man and rush over. Syntax had to get off the floor but he also rushed over.
"hey how do you feel Buddy" Wukong said as he rubbed the other monkey's cheek.
"where's the cub? Are they okay where are they?" Macaque asked as Syntax shoved Wukong aside.
"they are in stable condition. Their incubator will be moved here in a hour or so. The doctor wanted to make sure you were both stable first." Syntax said as he held Macaque's hand and kissed it softly," you'll love them I assure you. They are a little monkey just like their Baba. Though they have four tails."
"four tails?"Macaque asked softly as he gripped Syntax's hand.
"yes four fully functional tails" Syntax said as Wukong tried to push him aside.
"just because they can move doesn't mean they're functional!" The monkey king protested as him and Syntax we're shoving each other and get no where. It was stupid and funny.
Of course Macaque quickly took to his small precious son as soon as he was allowed to hold the babe.
