video games being respected and seen as a 100% valid storytelling device in deltarune makes me really happy. “lord of the hammer” got adapted into “dragon blazers” and no one is shrugging it off as the mindless video game cash in, they’re discussing whether or not its a good adaptation, and gerson himself sees it as a perfectly good way to engage with the story.

in fact there doesnt seem to be a societal hangup over video games being dumb or mindless slop for lazy people. noelle plays dragon blazers with her dad in the hospital. berdly is a gamer bro but that’s never shown to be a sign that he’s actually stupid, in fact noelle is just as big of a gamer as him. she just thinks hes annoying about it. hell, dragon blazers and blood crushers being a way for all the lightners to bond, berdly coming around to susie because of it, the suselle hangout in noelle’s house. most of tv time is you chilling with your friends playing video games, and ralsei (the “proper” one of the group) never once comments on it. and the fact that there’s a discussion about a book to video game story being a good adaptation shows that video games are seen as a valid art form.

toby fox loves video games so much that we’re getting a glimpse into a world that actually respects them enough to see them as art and devices to bond with people over rather than lazy slop machines. and i dunno, i’ve never seen anything like it personally. i wish we had that.

ive been thinking my intro post for bruce was pretty half assed, so this post will be dedicated to dive in a little more on his background, personality, etc etc Yay have his fits. Im so geeked on oc stuff rn sorri

bruce comes from a broken home, but he doesn't think about it too much, or just plainly denies it. he lived mostly with his dad in a trashy house in blue skies, safe to say he isn't dirt poor but they're not really accommodated, mostly cause mr jett spends his money on booze and cigs lol

he got sent to bullworth by his dad so as not to include him in the household expenses

talking about mr jett, he treats his son more as a friend than as a father, explaining bruce's bad manners and why he just be doing shit. his mom isn't really in the picture except for the emails and money she sends every few months, she's living in a different state. bruce still loves them both

aside from his family issues, he's pretty chill and chatty if unprovoked and when he's not beating someones face in, or getting his face beat in, he will literally agree to anything if theres guaranteed fun. bruce has the worst introspection in the world and combined with how rowdy he is it's only worse, always acts on impulse and rarely stops to think things through. Basically, he dislikes thinking, says he won't need it for the army anyways. one of his most notable traits is that hes kind of a hopeless romantic despite all his talk about love and feelings being lame, whenever he approaches a pretty girl or viceversa, he will imagine a future with her and then actually consider if its realistic or not. he's openly flirty but not in a weird way, he just says cheesy and shitty pick up lines

he's mostly known in the academy because a year before he used to go out with a girl, she dumped him and her brother gave bruce the beating of his life. this guy was later expelled for breaking bruce's nose and bruce became even more hostile when it comes to being a bully. he still likes this girl very much tho

He was expelled from his previous school because he liked to do pull-ups literally anywhere he could grasp onto to show off his calisthenics skills to girls until one day he ripped out a whole doorway

being a bully the most logical thing would be to beat on nerds, but he rathers mess with preps or anyone who can put up a fight with him. most he does to nerds is steal their money and homework, or stuff them in trashcans to get a cheap laugh out of whatever girl he's trying to pull. there was an incident where he threw a dissected rat at earnest and got suspended for three days

Continuing spn s7 and um i watched that specifc episode and I cried ikyk which one im talking about, note taking really helps make watching this season more fun.

Ep 7 -that is the most realistic siblings argument I've seen, no punches thrown just words.

-sam is the more emotionally stable one he grew and understands his emotions much better than dean, while Dean is still stuck being a mix of emotional constipation and undevelopment making it hard for him to deal with big things one after the other making him fully unprepared.

Especially so in the original Odyssey (which I know it’s different from Epic canon, but I want to yap now that we’re here sorry) Odysseus and Polyphemus’ scene is known by many as a prime example of the violation of xenia not from Odysseus, but Polyphemus. Odysseus and his crew, sure, went into the Cyclops’ home to kill and take some sheep, but they were actually aware that it was someone’s abode. When you show up to someone’s house as a guest, you’re expected to be fed. Maybe they were a bit impatient with taking the sheep? Well they were a hungry bunch🤷 Not to mention the wine Odysseus had and offered Polyphemus? If I recall correctly rn, it was in fact all intentional as a trade. Odysseus and the group willingly stayed in Polyphemus’ cave for him to come back to do the trade instead of just running off with the sheep. They didn’t know Polyphemus was a monster that had no regards for the laws and the doom that would follow.

Even in Epic, Odysseus tried to reconciled what they’ve done with the gift of wine. Polyphemus chose not to take it properly as an exchange and even mocked them with the ‘you’ll be the last to die’. If you really wanted to choose something to fault Odysseus with there, his hubris is right there!!!! Just a man at the end of the day, what can I say. This concept of violating xenia very much comes back with the suitors, their treatment of beggar Odysseus especially, but I’ll spare you the geeking out. Adding on, ik the concept of time is vague in Epic and it definitely was a lot shorter judging Mutiny, but in the og, the crew were literally stranded on the island for a month iirc. They were constantly starving. Hunger can be a strong motivator. I also wouldn’t be surprised if the crew were also lowkey so low on hopes they would ever get home that it was very easy for them to break, but I digress ajsjakaja

Im (very much still) obssesed with sumeru rn (idk why but yes.) and i feel obligated to have so many thoughs abt their hcs like:

Nilou would 100% feel so bad yet so fulfilled if reader ever gets matching tattoos with her. (She has one on her back) she would ask for months and feel horrible with herself but she cant help it.

Tighnari would literally give you the wrong medicine on purpose if reader is ever sick just so that he can spend more time with them in his care

Whenever Cyno is bored he would literally just search around for reader and watch them go about their day while also getting rid of anything that crosses path with them.

Kaveh spends all, and i mean ALL his free time designing the house for when reader and him get married and eventually live toghether (hes just delulu like that).

Wanderer will literally steal their things. Whether its a pencil or a hairpin, maybe even a notebook if hes lucky. He just wants to have things that remind him of them(not that they ever get out of his head). And also smt he convinces himself that bounds reader to him.

Alhaitham does smt similar exept with books. If you ever get obssesed with a book series hes going to read all of them. Hes also the one stealing books that they read. At this point they cant even go to that library anymore because all the books that they like are gone :(

cyno loves to present himself as a harmless guy in your eyes, always joking around and rambling about tcg. makes you let your guard down around him, making it easy for him to win your trust. and he's caring ! always bringing a trinket when he comes to visit your workplace, announcing his presence in his deadpan voice. he's such a nice guy, so cyno intends to ensure that this facade he wears infront of you never crumbles. always cleans himself up after executing criminals, making sure not a speck of blood remains, and that his weapon is spotless. can't have you fearing him, after all.

alhaitham stealing all the books you were planning to read,,, genius. it allows him to study what you like and what your mind consists of, while also allowing him the opportunity to interact with you once you inevitably find out that he's the one who borrowed it from the library. he keeps his face neutral when you come knocking at his door and requesting the books, but deep inside, he's geeking out. keeps his cool, though, by teasing you; if you're shorter than him, he'll hold the book high up out of your reach. if you're taller than him, he'll hide it behind him. still, he gives it to you after much persuasion, and tells you to give it back to him once you're done reading because he needs to re-examine the book that now contains your touch.

tim and kon get trapped in a black mercy-esque shared dream world. for some reason, kon's mental paradise involves dating a guy who's like, almost exactly just tim, but a little to the left. what's up with that? is kon... into tim? but that can't be right because if he was, surely his dream would just involve dating tim. right? it can't just be that this is the hallucination world's solution to kon's desperate fear of ruining things and losing tim because he's convinced he's broken and not made for lasting relationships because he hasn't processed his trauma around being groomed. ...right? (and then tim proceeds to do mental gymnastics that would do the flying graysons proud.)

a rewrite of sotm that includes much more of the steels, an actual talk about the time mae told kon he wasn't worthy of the s-shield and physically ripped the patches off his costume, some real kon & kara, and more discussion of kon's suicidality.

the timkon love square au... ouhhhh it would be so fun. it'd have a backdrop of the superfam being just much more isolated than they are in canon and how that would play into their themes of loneliness in the heart of the world. and it would include tim being a nosy little fuck and being so lois lane-coded.

kon & cassie duet character study or something about their nearly simultaneous realizations of "oh fuck i'm gay" and "wait shit i'm a lesbian" and then the ensuing "oh no was i never actually into you? did i lead you on for that entire time? was i stringing you along and playing cruel games with your heart without meaning to?" guilt. and the catharsis of it all when they come out to each other and realize that this was actually why they felt drawn to each other, and why it felt so safe with each other. would delve into cassie's struggles with how people ripped into her for not being donna and for not being pretty enough, with her grief and her loneliness with the lack of her secret identity, and with her own internalized homophobia, and with kon's struggle to grapple with his previous unacknowledged relationship trauma and how therefore a relationship where his girlfriend wasn't actually into him made him feel so safe. because like. they are so so so important to each other even if it's not romantic and that is important to meeee

the "kon unionizes the labor guild" new krypton au that lives rent free in my mind but that i have not properly plotted out yet but that i still desperately need. it'd be heavy on immigrant feelings and also the kon & kal & kara trio.

ok first of all because of jason being like, raised by wolves, he has a hard time navigating the massive variety of cultures he's introduced to when he first leaves camp jupiter, so all of his friends give him random crash courses about stuff like punk culture (percy particularly loves to rant about music to him and jason is more than willing to listen) as well as just the little nuances of the way they were raised (everyone has to put in a collective effort to teach jason to start taking his shoes off when he comes inside, and then he stops wearing shoes entirely because he hates them anyway (it's his wolf swag))

piper and percy always end up arguing over the aux cord when they're driving together because while they both share some music artists that they enjoy they always end up in blowout fights over which song is better, who's better in the genre, etc, etc. it's all in good fun though and they actually have a shared spotify playlist that they both sporadically add to. it's the principal of the thing!!! and it always stimulates interesting discussion

I JUST WANT MORE TEXAN LEO STUFF!!! especially since he's both from houston and latino, it has sooo much potential. stuff like him and hazel discussing food and him having slightly different manners of speech that end up rubbing off on all his friends!!! pleaseeeeee

percy and her punk diy habits are a massive source of bonding, everyone always brings their damaged clothes to her and she teaches them a bit about mending, and at this point because of all of her info dumps all of their friend have at least half a foot in punk culture, whcih they are so incredibly proud of

they would all DEFINITELY start picking up stuff from different languages after hanging around each other for long enough. piper starts swearing in italian because she's been hanging out with nico too much, and percy begins to let random bits of 1940s slang slip into her speech because of hazel, and jason (who i like to imagine is like a language prodigy along with leo) begins learning conversational chinese and mexican spanish and none of the friend groups conversations are ever only english

hazel and leo are always both very vehement about what figure of speech is better, stuff like random little idioms, and they talk about phrases they remember from their childhood for AGES when they first met, and it's just become a Thing for them. they ask people about the originals of their culture references, and have a little book they've compiled about the variety of speech at chb and camp jupiter

the aphrodite cabin is like THE place to talk about fashion, obviously, but that includes way more than people think it does. they have so many goth outfits, and scene jewellery, and drew loves to discuss different aesthetics and subcultures with people and always ends up gifting everyone random specialised fashion items for birthdays. i just think drew would love to geek out about subcultures in general, i just know she is the QUEEN of this kind of stuff (ok wait id love to explore the idea of this being her special interest more....)

hazel loves borrowing clothes from percy (they are siblings your honour!!) even though they often clash with her own outfits, but she really doesn't care because if it looks cute than it's cute!!! so what if people don't think it's goth or works well with what she's wearing

piper hosts a weekly movie night at camp (she is 100% super into like all types of films, my cinephile queen) which she lets people put little suggestions in, and after a couple of weeks they're basically always non english or super campy or stuff that her friends were obsessed with growing up and it kind of become a representation of her friend group as a whole, i just love it when peoples lives and personalities are reflected in the media they consume

that's all the random little things i have in my head rn, but this is a concept i wanna explore wayyyy more, because people just genuinely don't consider this kind of stuff in the pjo fandom enough imo!!!! OUAGHHH ANYWAY THANK YOU FOR ASKING this took me ages because i was geeking out SO HARD
