I've been thinking a lot about what Marco said.

also, things that are outside the norm do not need to be outright explained for someone to realize something is abnormal. maybe a villain in a tv show is plural and it's framed as Bad and Scary. it might be a strange look someone gives you when you mention it. it doesn't need to hit you over the head. it just needs to worm its way in there.

And something else that I just realized that could make people realize how they think isn't the norm: anime.

Well, specifically any media where someone has an inner monologue, but this seems really popular in anime. If you have two or more voices in your head, and you're consuming media where people are shown only having one, that could tip you off to being different somehow. "Why do all these characters have one voice in their head when I have so many?"

And then when you do run across characters with multiple voices, it's usually for magical reasons, like the Great Sage in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.
