"Mhh…" Ceres moved up a knee, her arm stretched out while holding the half-emptied bottle. "When I was very young, I got a gift from another child, a flower crown. I cannot remember who that child was or what flowers were used—heck, I'm sure there were no flowers even around us. But I immediately ran to my mother to show her what a pretty crown I was wearing…" she sighed, her eyes starting to stare at an empty spot.

For a moment, Astarion saw it—the tadpole shooting the memory of a woman looking over him, her face filled with pure displeasure, and her voice cold. "You are so ugly when you smile."

The vision ended as quickly as it had come. Ceres did not seem to notice he had actually seen it.

"She said my smile was ugly. So… when I finally got the strength, I started to smile, always. It was my act of rebellion. I was a disturbance for her and everyone when I did my best to remind nobody I existed. So now, I exist as loud and obnoxiously as possible."

She finally turned to Astarion, flashing a big grin at him.

Whenever Ceres smiled, she had little dimples, and her eyes smiled with her.
