Good news, Merlin fans! Sign ups for Kinkalot 2024 are officially open, and you know what that means: it’s time to let your kink flag fly! Signing up is as easy as 1, 2, 3… We’re back again for our 6th year filling the hole, greasing the wheels, turning the knobs, and getting ready for a hot, kinky summer of filthy PWP goodness. We hope you’ll join us this August! Just a few things we would like to note this year: We wanted to thank you all for all your support over the past five years of Kinkalotting as a competitive event. We appreciate all the enthusiasm and enjoyment you’ve brought to the fest! Unfortunately, due to other commitments we are unable to run the event in its current incarnation this year. We know that some of you will be disappointed as you were looking forward to participating in the fest again, or perhaps for joining in with the team event for the first time. We apologise for this, but never fear! We didn’t want to leave you all hanging with regards to a summer of kinky fun. So instead we have devised a Kinkalot Bingo challenge just for you! WHAT IS KINKALOT BINGO? - Kinkalot Bingo is an individual challenge where participants can complete as many, or as few squares as they’d like. No pressure! The aim of this event is to challenge yourself to try new things and create new works as we join together to fill our cards and enjoy a summer full of porny Merlin fun! (Participants MUST be 18+ and fills must be Mature- or Explicit-rated for sexual content).

My @kinkalot bingo card above, and the links and summaries to my first two fills. 1. Knightly Delights Pairings: Merlin/Arthur, Merlin/Knights (Gwaine, Leon, Lancelot, Percy, Elyan) Summary

“You know exactly what you are doing,” Arthur growled, his thumb tracing a path down Merlin’s soft jawline. “I’m not that clever, sire,” Merlin replied, husky and suggestive. “I was just trying to—” Arthur silenced him with a kiss. His lips rough and demanding, holding Merlin captive as he claimed his mouth with a fierce passion. Arthur pulled back and whispered against his lips, “If you keep it up, I am going to pull your pants down and spank you until you can’t walk.” “Is that a threat, My Lord?” he whispered back, voice playful. Arthur grinned, his hands leaving Merlin. “No, it’s a promise,” he said, stepping back. “If you continue to distract me and scare off my prey.” Merlin grinned and followed him, giving Lancelot a wink as he caught his eye.

2. Feasts of Desires Pairings: Merlin/Arthur Summary

When a foreign prince visits, their customs throw Merlin for a loop. Expected to show up to the welcome feast in little more than a thong and thin veil, Merlin initially refuses. However, his sense of duty and desire to protect the other servants eventually compels him to comply. Once there, Merlin finds himself caught in the foreign prince's unwanted attention as the feast unfolds. Arthur must navigate the delicate balance of diplomacy and his own feelings to shield Merlin from humiliation, testing the limits of their bond and loyalty to each other.

(What I want to do with this post is to motivate writers who may see negative posts and get discouraged.)

So uhhhh. Not saying any names.

But criticizing the fanfic writers for not writing exactly what you want and being hateful about it is not that great at all. Especially when using very rude words.

If you want a certain trope of Merthur fics to appear more often just write it yourself! Like it was mentioned if "things don't change soon around here". Like an old man looking at a playground of kids laughing a bit too loudly. Writers don't owe us a thing.

Plus. If you really want to criticize the ability of our amazing writers you should probably learn to write yourself. Otherwise, you look like a massive hypocrite.

So. Since I would like this to be against negativity:

I'd like to thank all the amazing writers in this fandom.

Honestly, Merthur fics are the best I've ever read and some deserve to be acclaimed as the masterpieces they are!

And with kinkalot going on... I'd like to give you all a massive round of applause. You rock, babes (gender neutral) 💪💪💪

Your smut can be whatever you want it to be, and if you see a post complaining about it ignore it because no one agrees and we all love you.❤️❤️

On my end:

I'm someone who always has to have a controversial opinion. So you'll often see me saying stuff like:

"Hey, I think this particular trope doesn't really work well..." or "This is something that bothers me, because it's really common and doesn't acknowledge so and so..."

But I always make it clear that the post is not against the people using that particular trope. I always try my best to be respectful. Fic writers do this for free and I only want to spark conversations because, to me, that's the best part of fandom life. And maybe a few people get to see a new side to a certain topic and get inspired to do something with it.

Personally, I think the only time it's okay to openly criticize someone is if:

1) The writer knowingly doesn't tag trigger warnings even when asked.

2) The writer him/herself acted rudely or put other people down.

This is all really funny to me because I would have agreed! It's a trope I'd love to see more of. It's among my favorites! But it's not like I think people are dumb for not thinking the same way I do.

Best part of #kinkalot are the blorbos, the tons of reading materials and the great inspiration for future fiction you get from there.

I'm already writing a new fic, have promised two for @papysanzo and have plotted another.
