Brazil stats agency releases new map with Global South at the top
In a symbolic shift, IBGE challenges traditional worldviews and celebrates rising leadership

One year after launching a world map with Brazil at the center, Brazil’s official statistics agency (IBGE) has now released a new version with the map turned upside down—placing the Global South at the top.
The revised world map references the concept of the “Global South,” a term used to describe developing countries based on their geographic location. It has increasingly replaced the older designation of “underdeveloped nations.”
The map’s release was celebrated by IBGE president Marcio Pochmann in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “The new version highlights Brazil’s current leadership in major international forums such as BRICS and Mercosur, and its role as host of COP30 in 2025,” he wrote.
The IBGE echoed that message in an official note: “The launch comes in a year when Brazil plays an active role in shaping global debates and perspectives from the Global South, especially as it presides over BRICS and Mercosur, and prepares to host COP30.”

Robert Tait at The Guardian:
Writers in the US are at growing risk amid a worldwide crackdown on free speech that has begun to spread to countries previously renowned for unfettered expression and openness, according to a leading writers’ advocacy group. PEN America said it was concerned about an emerging threat from the Trump administration as it published its annual Freedom to Write index report, which showed that the number of writers jailed worldwide had jumped for the sixth year running to 375 in 2024, compared with 339 the year before. Covering a period ending before Donald Trump took office on 20 January, the 35-page report records China as once again the biggest jailer of writers, with 118 behind bars, up from 107. Iran is the second highest incarcerator, with 43, down from 49 a year earlier, although those released had been freed with conditions that forced them into silence. Israel is in fifth place, with 21 writers behind bars, including eight in administrative detention – statistics at odds with the country’s self-proclaimed status as a democracy that tolerates dissent. Other prominent incarcerators are Russia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Turkey, a Nato ally and ostensibly still a democracy under the leadership of its strongman president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The index has been published for the past six years and has hitherto generally highlighted the dangers faced by writers living under repressive regimes, although Israel also appeared in the previous year’s report. While making no explicit mention of threats to free speech under the US president following a spate of arrests of foreign students who have campaigned for Palestinian rights and accusations of trying to curtail academic freedom, its text clearly hints at the potential for a future clampdown. “As geopolitics continue to shift and authoritarian tendencies spread to countries that were once considered safely anchored in openness, we are seeing that free expression, and therefore writers, are increasingly in the crosshairs of repression in a much wider range of countries,” says the index. “[Governments] recognize the power of words to affirm historical truths, give voice to those whose narratives have been excised from the historical ledger, develop or maintain culture, and hold institutions to account … Democracies have been slow to understand that attacks on writers are both the precursor to and a consequence of broader attacks on human rights, democracy, and free expression.”
PEN America’s Freedom To Write index issues a dire warning for the US under the Trump regime.

Extremely lukewarm take: AI is neither a silver bullet solution to every problem to ever exist, nor is it the literal spawn of the antichrist -- it is a tool, and like all tools, can be used appropriately under the right conditions to great effect, or misused to great harm.
I've done some experiments with ChatGPT, and admittedly I've had a lot of fun. Detailed stories beyond the break.
I started with a statistical probability problem I knew how to describe but didn't know the math to calculate myself -- I'd just watched a number of engineering YouTube videos involving marble runs like Wintergaten, Engineezy, etc, and I wanted to know in a very limited, extremely controlled circumstance, how long could a device go before it "missed" -- before a ball that was supposed to be on a track, wasn't actually there because the reload mechanic is the random element. I gave ChatGPT a very involved prompt and regrettably I don't have it saved, but I was stupendously impressed with how it didn't need clarity from me -- it correctly interpreted the prompt, laid down some additional baseline assumptions, and then just did the math. Which honestly I expected -- computers are really good at counting. I was more pleased the AI had understood the prompt.
Later I asked to play a text-based version of XCOM 2 with the serial numbers filed off and then a Star Trek TNG-style bridge commander game. While the difficulty was too easy and it can lose track of a large cast of characters on occasion, it overall was very fun.
I also fed it a D&D 3.5 monster description and a fairly detailed character concept and it put meat on the bones (the finality of names is the bane of my existence as a worldbuilder); it even helped generate the leadership of a cult that serves the monster-character, and did so in the span of seconds -- it was able to take a concept and drum up roleplay-ready content on demand; content that would have taken me hours to develop by hand.
I recently used ChatGPT to test an item from the 2024 D&D release and immediately realized Chat's true strength for D&D as a balance tester. It is fabulously easy to import stat blocks (or homebrew non-OGL blocks) and just crunch a lot of trials to see the results.
Which led me to revisit an encounter I actually ran myself by hand some years ago -- a Warforged Titan against a Tyrannosaurus Rex. In my "canon" encounter, the tyrannosaurus went blow for blow for about four rounds before landing a critical hit and executing the titan -- a fucking epic brawl with an incredible finish on the fifth round.
I ran the same encounter with ChatGPT 100 times just now and realized just how anomalous my version of the encounter was:
Like, that's cool as fuck to be able to test, analyze, tweak, and retest without sinking a massive amount of time into playtesting, because the computer can play way faster than we fleshlings can -- and I can tune an encounter to give the feel I want it to impart to the players while still leaving room for players to innovate and surprise me as game master.
There are many things about my life I haven't dropped into the AI because it's not a counselor or therapist, it's not a financial advisor, it's not a friend -- it's a rock we put lightning into and taught to count, and it's really good at counting. It's even halfway decent at just helping make an entertaining story.
But it's not The Solution to Life The Universe And Everything.

India’s Jawaharlal Nehru, leader of the Congress Party, arrived in the USSR to celebrate its tenth anniversary. He marvelled at the ability of this ‘peasant society’ to rapidly move from misery to fellowship, from starvation to surfeit. Russia interested Nehru because both India and the USSR were peasant countries with poverty and illiteracy as the barriers to freedom for the people. What he saw in 1927 surprised him, that there was less poverty in the country than he imagined and that the leadership had come from amongst the workers and peasants. Mikhail Kalinin, whom Nehru met, came from a peasant family and was then the head of state of the USSR. Joseph Stalin, the head of government, came from a family of cobblers and housemaids. These were ordinary people, who now ran an extraordinarily large country. Of his visit, Nehru wrote, ‘Russia thus interests us, because it may help us to find some solution for the serious problems which the world faces today. It interests us specially because conditions there have not been, and are not even now, very dissimilar to conditions in India. Both are vast agricultural countries with only the beginning of industrialization, and both have to face poverty and illiteracy. If Russia finds a satisfactory solution for these, our work in India would be made easier.’.
And indeed, Nehru found that the USSR had made great gains against hunger and poverty and towards increasing the power and dignity of the peasantry. From great poverty and deprivation, the USSR quit the Great War, fought off the invasion of the capitalist powers and struggled to build up the industrial and agricultural capacity of the country. Within a decade, the USSR was able to move from extreme backwardness to a situation of economic and social stability. Nehru looked carefully at the statistics on access to medical care, life expectancy, infant mortality and industrial growth. These showed improvement. But these were not conclusive. What interested him, the keen observer, were the signs of a much richer social life for the peasants. ‘They have their newspapers and country fairs and academies and sanatoria; their libraries and reading rooms and women’s clubs. The Society for the Liquidation of Illiteracy and Mutual Aid Societies are to be found everywhere. And so are the youth organizations – the Pioneers and the Komsomols’ – the All-Union Pioneer Organization and the Young Communist League. This richness, this wealth, was the best measure of advance.
Without literacy, Lenin wrote, ‘there can be no politics; without [literacy] there are rumours, gossip, fairy-tales and prejudices’. In 1897 – in the last Tsarist census – less than a third of Russians counted as literate (only 13 per cent of women were literate). In 1917, a third of men were literate and less than a fifth of women. Immense amount of the social surplus in the USSR was turned over to education and health, to the basic needs of the population. By 1926, thanks to the Likbez programmes, half the population could read and write. By 1937, two decades into the Revolution, the literacy levels rose to 86 per cent for men and 65 per cent for women. It was an extraordinary achievement. It needs to be mentioned that the USSR followed the policy of indigenization (korenizatsiya) – promoting regional languages so that people could develop their knowledge and wisdom in their native tongues and not merely in Russian. Such advance took place in a ‘peasant society’. India’s literacy rate at the close of two centuries of British colonial rule stood – in comparison – at 12 per cent.

A.2.10 What will abolishing hierarchy mean and achieve?
The creation of a new society based upon libertarian organisations will have an incalculable effect on everyday life. The empowerment of millions of people will transform society in ways we can only guess at now.
However, many consider these forms of organisation as impractical and doomed to failure. To those who say that such confederal, non-authoritarian organisations would produce confusion and disunity, anarchists maintain that the statist, centralised and hierarchical form of organisation produces indifference instead of involvement, heartlessness instead of solidarity, uniformity instead of unity, and privileged elites instead of equality. More importantly, such organisations destroy individual initiative and crush independent action and critical thinking. (For more on hierarchy, see section B.1 — “Why are anarchists against authority and hierarchy?”).
That libertarian organisation can work and is based upon (and promotes) liberty was demonstrated in the Spanish Anarchist movement. Fenner Brockway, Secretary of the British Independent Labour Party, when visiting Barcelona during the 1936 revolution, noted that “the great solidarity that existed among the Anarchists was due to each individual relying on his [sic] own strength and not depending upon leadership… . The organisations must, to be successful, be combined with free-thinking people; not a mass, but free individuals” [quoted by Rudolf Rocker, Anarcho-syndicalism, p. 67f]
As sufficiently indicated already, hierarchical, centralised structures restrict freedom. As Proudhon noted: “the centralist system is all very well as regards size, simplicity and construction: it lacks but one thing — the individual no longer belongs to himself in such a system, he cannot feel his worth, his life, and no account is taken of him at all.” [quoted by Martin Buber, Paths in Utopia, p. 33]
The effects of hierarchy can be seen all around us. It does not work. Hierarchy and authority exist everywhere, in the workplace, at home, in the street. As Bob Black puts it, ”[i]f you spend most of your waking life taking orders or kissing ass, if you get habituated to hierarchy, you will become passive-aggressive, sado-masochistic, servile and stupefied, and you will carry that load into every aspect of the balance of your life.” [“The Libertarian as Conservative,” The Abolition of Work and other essays, pp. 147–8]
This means that the end of hierarchy will mean a massive transformation in everyday life. It will involve the creation of individual-centred organisations within which all can exercise, and so develop, their abilities to the fullest. By involving themselves and participating in the decisions that affect them, their workplace, their community and society, they can ensure the full development of their individual capacities.
With the free participation of all in social life, we would quickly see the end of inequality and injustice. Rather than people existing to make ends meet and being used to increase the wealth and power of the few as under capitalism, the end of hierarchy would see (to quote Kropotkin) “the well-being of all” and it is “high time for the worker to assert his [or her] right to the common inheritance, and to enter into possession of it.” [The Conquest of Bread, p. 35 and p. 44] For only taking possession of the means of life (workplaces, housing, the land, etc.) can ensure “liberty and justice, for liberty and justice are not decreed but are the result of economic independence. They spring from the fact that the individual is able to live without depending on a master, and to enjoy … the product of his [or her] toil.” [Ricardo Flores Magon, Land and Liberty, p. 62] Therefore liberty requires the abolition of capitalist private property rights in favour of “use rights.” (see section B.3 for more details). Ironically, the “abolition of property will free the people from homelessness and nonpossession.” [Max Baginski, “Without Government,” Anarchy! An Anthology of Emma Goldman’s Mother Earth, p. 11] Thus anarchism promises “both requisites of happiness — liberty and wealth.” In anarchy, “mankind will live in freedom and in comfort.” [Benjamin Tucker, Why I am an Anarchist, p. 135 and p. 136]
Only self-determination and free agreement on every level of society can develop the responsibility, initiative, intellect and solidarity of individuals and society as a whole. Only anarchist organisation allows the vast talent which exists within humanity to be accessed and used, enriching society by the very process of enriching and developing the individual. Only by involving everyone in the process of thinking, planning, co-ordinating and implementing the decisions that affect them can freedom blossom and individuality be fully developed and protected. Anarchy will release the creativity and talent of the mass of people enslaved by hierarchy.
Anarchy will even be of benefit for those who are said to benefit from capitalism and its authority relations. Anarchists “maintain that both rulers and ruled are spoiled by authority; both exploiters and exploited are spoiled by exploitation.” [Peter Kropotkin, Act for Yourselves, p. 83] This is because ”[i]n any hierarchical relationship the dominator as well as the submissive pays his dues. The price paid for the ‘glory of command’ is indeed heavy. Every tyrant resents his duties. He is relegated to drag the dead weight of the dormant creative potential of the submissive all along the road of his hierarchical excursion.” [For Ourselves, The Right to Be Greedy, Thesis 95]

Capital socially binds, represses and harnesses the material available for production including labour power before it engages it. The social category of control as such and the power platforms attendant upon the actual or ideological standing of the working classes precede the formation of prices. Making the Arab working classes more insecure, more vulnerable in the forms of their political organisation, means more profits accruing to central capital--in one facet of this one may envisage that the power-setting influences prices. The pittance spent in money form on control or destabilisation, whether it is the financing of Islamic fundamentalism or the US aid to Egypt, generates value for capital by the degree to which prices of Third World resources fall below value or, more significantly, the degree to which capital exercises control over value-forming processes. By tearing apart old ways of maintaining a living, inflating the ranks of the unemployed and driving people into poverty, capital inexpensively re-engages in production non-money assets (human beings) that had been disengaged by mass unemployment. (Of course, the same measures apply to all other resources-since to the imperialist, Arab working-class people are one more commodity to be devalued). Moreover, the images of dying Arab children, the cause of whose misery is assigned to cultural and identity politics, by 'demonstrating' that Arabs are culturally and nationally inferior, boost racism-laced nationalisms in the centre. Absurd scarcity and lifeboat theories bringing the Third World poor to First World safe havens acquire momentum and ideologically bear the weight of capitalist dynamics. The function of these campaigns is to conceal the fact that wars and their consequences in famines and chronic hunger are necessary to reproduce the ideological tools of capital. Deaths in Third World wars, famines and hunger are advertisements for imperialism (Avramidis 2005).
More often than not, diplomatic means of resolving conflicts are doomed to fail in the AW. None worked in the past unless the peace terms exacted more of a human toll than war. Egypt after the Camp David Accords is a case in point: after thirty years of growth, one out of three of its children is malnourished (IRIN 2010). That the empire will not take yes for an answer is not haphazard; war is necessary to circuitously reproduce the international division of labour attendant on accumulation by militarisation. Thus, despite the embargo on Iraq acting as a slow-motion WMD and the capitulation of its leadership, Iraq had to be invaded to crush even its remaining traces of sovereignty (Gordon 2010). Those on the Left who argue that the differences in wages across the globe are primarily derived from degrees of technological advancement, relative to differences in productivity (relative surplus value), forget that productivity in an integrated world is indivisible and that criminally wasted lives have gone into what is being produced. Accumulation and productivity do not start in the factories of the West; they begin in the Congo and Iraq. The concept of socially necessary labour and the reproduction of labour power presumes that wages are not exclusively determined by biological factors but by historical and sociological ones (Emmanuel 1972). The formation of value is an integrated historical process, in which all social moments participate in the realisation of the commodity, and not a statistical exercise accounting for distorted or power-brokered prices. The politics of imperialist aggression grapple with the growing rift between the US-led capital's bloated share of private appropriation and the redistribution of value to a complex global production structure (the shares of other imperialists). In the age of financialisation, this rift is magnified by the fetish incarnate in the dollar-based price system. The more acute the contradictions, the more developing nations have to be stripped of their security before they are deprived of political will and national resources.
Wars trace the outer limits of encroachment in the accumulation process. They are entwined with expansion by commodity realisation-- that is, the process by which commodities are brought to market and sold to realise their value. Wars also pre-empt revolutionary consciousness because they delink progressive reforms from their intermediation in revolution. In view of labour's abundance, those who perish in war reduce the number of labourers by so little relative to the huge total (an insignificant reduction of the labour-power commodity) such that they reduce the value of those remaining alive. When central-nation working classes are estranged from their own humanity (the alienated majority vote for the war machine) and under the incessant barrage of scaremongering associated with 'terrorism' and alleged resource scarcity, their initial attitude of compassion for and solidarity with Third World dead or skeletally starved people transmutes into its opposite--- deepening nationalisms and other identity forms to the benefit of capital. It is this ideological input of war distorting revolutionary consciousness that lays the ground for new wars. That wars are justified by fabricated information time and again is not a series of gaffes or mistakes; it is, as often said, a systemic calculus of mass crimc. Just as wars contribute to the reproduction of social conditions under capitalism, so also they buttress the ideology of capital, which must be continuously reproduced and is never separate from the expropriation of Arab formations. The epitome of war-making ideology was justifying what is utterly unjustifiable under the Charter of the United Nations--launching a war to protect 'a way of life'. During the ideological and media whip-up for the Second Gulf War, the distortion of humanist consciousness became so profound that some ideologues went so far as to quote Hegel's philosophy out of context in a manner that resembled the language of Mein Kampf.

Georgia’s disputed October 26 parliamentary elections have plunged the country into a democratic crisis, jeopardizing its EU candidacy and Euro-Atlantic trajectory. At the core of the crisis lies evidence of electoral manipulation, Russian interference, and a ruling party apparently determined to consolidate its grip on power.
Left with no other institutional mechanisms to defend democracy, Georgia’s united opposition, led by President Salome Zourabichvili, has launched a nonviolent protest movement. The country now stands at a pivotal crossroads in its modern history, with the outcome of the current confrontation set to have geopolitical consequences that will reverberate far beyond Georgia’s borders.
President Zourabichvili’s denunciation of the October parliamentary elections as illegitimate has shaken the nation. She has claimed that evidence of Russian interference and systematic election manipulation reveal a ruling party embracing increasingly authoritarian tactics.
Zourabichvili and other opposition figures accuse the governing Georgian Dream party of weaponizing anti-Western and anti-Ukrainian narratives in order to gain political advantage during the election campaign. This included claims that the country’s opposition forces are part of a Western-led “Global War Party” that is allegedly seeking to open a “second front” against Russia.
Critics claim the events of October 26 in Georgia were less an election and more a performance designed to entrench the political status quo in the country. Independent exit polls revealed a decisive majority for Western-leaning opposition parties. Nevertheless, Georgian Dream declared victory.
Reports from international observers and Georgian civil society reveal a troubling reality including widespread evidence of glaring irregularities such as altered voter turnout figures and statistical anomalies. The vote itself featured numerous examples of violence and intimidation.
Developments in Georgia are geopolitically significant for the surrounding region. Positioned at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, Georgia serves as a critical energy transit hub and a potential model of democratic resilience in a region where autocracies and empires have long vied for dominance.
Since coming to power in 2012, the Georgian Dream party has increasingly aligned with authoritarian regimes. This has included favoring Chinese firms over American companies for projects like the Anaklia deep sea port, and facilitating Russian sanctions evasion.
Allowing Georgia to slip into authoritarian hands would send a dangerous message that democratic values are negotiable. For the US and EU, this is not just about Georgia. At stake is the West’s credibility in the wider region. Georgia aligns with Western foreign policy priorities such as countering the expansion of Chinese, Russian, and Iranian influence in the Black Sea region.
Georgia’s united democratic opposition and civil society have shown they are ready to lead a peaceful transition of power and position Georgia as a dependable Western ally. Achieving this vision, however, demands coordinated action from Washington, Brussels, and London.
First, new elections under international supervision are necessary. Only transparent elections monitored by independent actors can succeed in restoring democratic integrity and advance Georgia’s EU accession prospects.
Second, the West should impose targeted sanctions on Georgian Dream leaders and their enablers for undermining democracy and advancing Russian interests. These sanctions would send a clear message of support for Georgia’s democratic aspirations.
The US could expand current visa bans to include financial restrictions, with Brussels doing likewise. The prompt adoption of pending legislative bills in the US Congress to support the Georgian people would further demonstrate decisive commitment.
Third, Georgia’s civil society, and independent media need greater protection from repression. With a Russian-inspired “foreign agents” law now in place in Georgia, targeted funding and diplomatic support are crucial to ensuring these democratic pillars remain free and accountable.
Coordinated transatlantic pressure is crucial. Decisive action on Georgia can help strengthen a Western ally and stabilize a critical region, while also bolstering democracy at a pivotal moment. Georgia is far from a lost cause, but it will require bold Western leadership to prevent the country’s capture by the Kremlin.

What personality type is Chirin from Chirin no Suzu / Ringing Bell?

Hello fellow reader. You're probably familiar with the 16 personality types. I've watched Chirin no Suzu / Ringing Bell several months ago and rewatched it recently and wanted to find the personality type the main character Chirin most likely has. I'll be primarily using the book, Sanrio adaptation and to a lesser extent the Kamishibai adaptation as reference points.
Note: Since this is an evaluation on Chirin's personality and the fact he goes through a lot of character development, there will be spoilers. Feel free to click the links on any of the adaptations if you would prefer to know the story before any spoilers.
In order to find Chirin's personality type, I figured it would best to start with the cognitive functions (I'll be providing titles for the different sections of this post considering how long it is to make it easier to skim through specific parts).
What are the cognitive functions?
Simply put, the cognitive functions are a theory that was pioneered by Carl Jung and are all about how your mind processes information and reacts to the world around you. Each personality type has a dominant function, auxiliary (or secondary) function, tertiary function and an inferior function. Every personality type has a sensing function, an intuitive function (both are perceiving functions), a thinking function, and a feeling function (both are judging functions) but whether each function is focused outward or inward varies between each personality type.
Here are a couple good references for the cognitive functions.
Perceiving Functions
Extraverted Sensing (Se) Se users are highly attuned to the present moment and like to use their five senses to take in information. Se users are also amazing at created an exciting atmosphere for the crowd thanks to their use of five senses allowing them to have awareness of what others enjoy. Se can also be shown through both a preference for more sophisticated tastes and high energy thrills. Dominant function of the ESTP and ESFP.
Introverted Sensing (Si) Si users rely on past experiences to determine the actions they take and will use said past experiences as a comparison to the present. Tend to have excellent memories especially with what matters to them the most and can be nostalgic and sometimes hesitant to new ideas. Dominant function of the ISTJ and ISFJ.
Extraverted Intuition (Ne) Ne users are the champions of brainstorming and have helped pioneered some of the most unconventional yet awesome concepts you can think of and can also have a knack for finding connections in areas that can be drastically different at first glance. Dominant function of the ENTP and ENFP.
Introverted Intuition (Ni) Ni users are focused inward and use their instincts as a guide in life. In contrast to the Ne user's love for exploring multiple paths Ni users prefer to stick with what their gut says is the best path. Ni users can also be excellent on following through their goals and picking up on what are the ulterior motives for others. Dominant function of the INTJ and INFJ.
Judging Functions
Extraverted Thinking (Te) Te users focus on logic and reason in a pragmatic sense, preferring what is the most effective way to get the job done, especially within the context of a group. They can be very charismatic and plenty of Te users enjoy going to leadership roles. Dominant function of the ESTJ and ENTJ.
Introverted Thinking (Ti) Ti users rely on their own logic and reasoning and are excellent at gathering information on the inner workings of a system. They rely less on concrete statistics and much more on what logically makes sense to them. Dominant function of the ISTP and INTP.
Extraverted Feeling (Fe) Fe users rely on ethics to form their decisions and are heavily driven towards helping their community and can be very self-sacrificial. They are also very empathetic to how others are feeling and act conscientious in return. Dominant function of the ESFJ and ENFJ.
Introverted Feeling (Fi) Fi users are heavily attuned to their own feelings and highly value authenticity over conforming to the group. They prioritize their own moral compass instead of established ethics and rules. Can be very empathetic towards individuals who have been in similar circumstances they've been in and can also hold sentimental attachments to objects and people. Dominant function of the ISFP and INFP.
As mentioned before, each personality type has a function that's sensing, intuition, thinking and feeling. In addition, two of these functions will be extraverted and two introverted. Your dominant and auxiliary functions also determine your tertiary and inferior functions.
For example, if you're an ISTJ, your dominant function is Si and your auxiliary function is Te. Your tertiary function is the opposite of your auxiliary function and your inferior function is the opposite of your dominant function, which means for an ISTJ they would respectively be Fi and Ne! Notice that for an introverted function its opposite would be extraverted in return.
To put it simply: Se pairs with Ni Si pairs with Ne Te pairs with Fi Fe pairs with Ti
Also note that for dominant and auxiliary functions one will be extraverted and one introverted. Same goes with tertiary and inferior functions.
What types have what cognitive functions?
INTJs, ENTJs, ESFPs, and ISFPs all have Se, Ni, Te, and Fi INFJs, ENFJs, ESTPs, and ISTPs all have Se, Ni, Ti, and Fe INTPs, ENTPs, ESFJs, and ISFJs all have Si, Ne, Ti, and Fe INFPs, ENFPs, ESTJs, and ISTJs all have Si, Ne, Te, and Fi
Now despite each group having the same cognitive functions, they are all stacked in different orders. ISFJs and INTPs have the same cognitive functions but their different stacks (Si, Fe, Ti, Ne for ISFJ and Ti, Ne, Si, and Fe for INTP) leads the two to process and take in the world differently!
What are Chirin's cognitive functions?
Going through all the cognitive functions and going by the story presented in the book, Sanrio film and Kamishibai, I can safely say Chirin does NOT have Ti or Ne. He isn't the type to rely on internal logic or curious about the inner workings of systems nor is he the type that likes to brainstorm or find connections in the most unexpected places. And because cognitive functions are always complemented by their opposite we can also remove Fe and Si. This leaves Chirin to have Se, Ni, Te, and Fi.
Chirin's personality type
Now all that's left is to figure out how the cognitive functions stack up.
If Chirin is an ESFP that would make his dominant function Se and inferior function Ni, however given that Chirin is very determined when he has a goal to reach and demonstrates impressive degrees of willpower makes it unlikely Ni would be his inferior function. At the same time Se doms aren't the type to isolate themselves when in major guilt like Chirin did in the original book making him unlikely to be an ESFP.
If Chirin is an INTJ that make his dominant function Ni and inferior function Se, however given that Chirin is very curious about his surroundings even as a lamb, to the point he wears the titular bell because of his tendency to get lost, and has demonstrated high levels of dexterity and quick reflexes make him unlikely to be an INTJ.
If Chirin is an ENTJ that would make his dominant function Te and his inferior function Fi, however given that Chirin is well aware of his own feelings and heavily affected by losing his mother even as an adult make it unlikely for Fi to be an inferior function. At the same time, he doesn't show interest in taking on a leadership role or repressing his feelings like many high Te users making him unlikely to be an ENTJ.
If Chirin is an ISFP that would make his dominant function Fi and his inferior function Te. Going by the book, Sanrio film and Kamishibai adaptations, Chirin is heavily guided by his own inner emotions. He judges others on a good vs. bad instance (explaining his initial hatred and desire to kill Woe) and follows his emotional gut over thinking things through. He demonstrates heavy sentimentality towards the individuals he cares about, most notably his mother but even realizes too late he has also come to view Woe in a similar way. Having Fi dom also puts him at odds with the other sheep who are very much synonymous with Fe. In the Kamishibai adaptation, a mother sheep warns her lambs to be careful in case Chirin decides to kill them, displaying Chirin's decisions as a very non-conformist path compared to the other sheep. The Sanrio adaptation also shows him trying to save a mother bird's eggs and refusing to kill a mother sheep and her lamb because both are instances that reminded him of the trauma he has gone through, emphasizing with both instances on a personal basis. Chirin having inferior Te can also be seen in him having a subconscious desire to become a stronger creature as a reaction to going through a tragic experience. Despite his attempt to give a cold and aloof demeaner as he gets older, he's deep down a tragic soul struggling to properly grieve over losing his mother and later Woe, the latter being also a double whammy of guilt on his end. As a result, Chirin is very likely to be ISFP.
Whew, that was a long post, but I hope you enjoyed it! It was a lot to type, but I still had fun putting this little essay together!

Why is ESG Intelligence Important to Companies?
Human activities burden Earth’s biosphere, but ESG criteria can ensure that industries optimize their operations to reduce their adverse impact on ecological and socio-economic integrity. Investors have utilized the related business intelligence to screen stocks of ethical enterprises. Consumers want to avoid brands that employ child labor. This post will elaborate on why ESG intelligence has become important to companies.
What is ESG Intelligence?
ESG, or environmental, social, and governance, is an investment guidance and business performance auditing approach. It assesses how a commercial organization treats its stakeholders and consumes natural resources. At its core, you will discover statistical metrics from a sustainability perspective. So, ESG data providers gather and process data for compliance ratings and reports.
Managers, investors, and government officers can understand a company’s impact on its workers, regional community, and biosphere before engaging in stock buying or business mergers. Since attracting investors and complying with regulatory guidelines is vital for modern corporations, ESG intelligence professionals have witnessed a rise in year-on-year demand.
Simultaneously, high-net-worth individuals (HNWI) and financial institutions expect a business to work toward accomplishing the United Nations’ sustainable development goals. Given these dynamics, leaders require data-driven insights to enhance their compliance ratings.
Components of ESG Intelligence
The environmental considerations rate a firm based on waste disposal, plastic reduction, carbon emissions risks, pollution control, and biodiversity preservation. Other metrics include renewable energy adoption, green technology, and water consumption.
Likewise, the social impact assessments check whether a company has an adequate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policy. Preventing workplace toxicity and eradicating child labor practices are often integral to the social reporting head of ESG services.
Corporate governance concerns discouraging bribes and similar corruptive activities. Moreover, an organization must implement solid cybersecurity measures to mitigate corporate espionage and ransomware threats. Accounting transparency matters too.
Why is ESG Intelligence Important to Companies?
Reason 1 – Risk Management
All three pillars of ESG reports, environmental, social, and governance, enable business owners to reduce their company’s exposure to the following risks.
High greenhouse (GHG) emissions will attract regulatory penalties under pollution reduction directives. Besides, a commercial project can take longer if vital resources like water become polluted. Thankfully, the environmental pillar helps companies comply with the laws governing these situations.
A toxic and discriminatory workplace environment often harms employees’ productivity, collaboration, creativity, and leadership skill development. Therefore, inefficiencies like reporting delays or emotional exhaustion can slow a project’s progress. ESG’s social metrics will mitigate the highlighted risks resulting from human behavior and multi-generational presumptions.
Insurance fraud, money laundering, tax evasion, preferential treatment, hiding conflicts of interest, and corporate espionage are the governance risks you must address as soon as possible. These problems introduce accounting inconsistencies and data theft issues. You will also receive penalties according to your regional laws if data leaks or insider trading happens.
Reason 2 – Investor Relations (IR)
Transparent disclosures can make or break the relationship between corporate leaders and investors. With the help of ESG intelligence, it becomes easier to make qualitative and manipulation-free “financial materiality” reports. Therefore, managers can successfully execute the deal negotiations with little to no resistance.
You want to retain the present investors and attract more patrons to raise funds. These resources will help you to augment your company’s expansion and market penetration. However, nourishing mutually beneficial investor relations is easier said than done.
For example, some sustainability investors will prioritize enterprises with an ESG score of above 80. Others will refuse to engage with your brand if one of the suppliers has documented records of employing child labor. Instead of being unaware of these issues, you can identify them and mitigate the associated risks using ESG intelligence and insights.
Reason 3 – Consumer Demand
Consider the following cases.
Customers wanted plastic-free product packaging, and e-commerce platforms listened to their demand. And today’s direct home deliveries contribute to public awareness of how petroleum-derived synthetic coating materials threaten the environment.
The availability of recharging facilities and rising gas prices have made electric vehicles (EVs) more attractive to consumers. Previously, the demand for EVs had existed only in the metropolitan areas. However, the EV industry expects continuous growth as electricity reaches more semi-urban and rural regions.
Businesses and investors care about consumer demand. Remember, they cannot force consumers into buying a product or service. And a healthy competitive industry has at least three players. Therefore, customers can choose which branded items they want to consume.
Consumer demand is one of the driving factors that made ESG intelligence crucial in many industries. If nobody was searching for electric vehicles on the web or everybody had demanded plastic packaging, businesses would never switch their attitudes toward the concerns discussed above.
Conclusion
Data governance has become a popular topic due to the privacy laws in the EU, the US, Brazil, and other nations. Meanwhile, child labor is still prevalent in specific developing and underdeveloped regions. Also, the climate crisis has endangered the future of agricultural occupations.
Deforestation, illiteracy, carbon emissions, identity theft, insider trading, discrimination, on-site accidents, corruption, and gender gap threaten the well-being of future generations. The world requires immediate and coordinated actions to resolve these issues.
Therefore, ESG intelligence is important to companies, consumers, investors, and governments. Properly acquiring and analyzing it is possible if these stakeholders leverage the right tools, relevant benchmarks, and expert data partners.

How companies can proactively achieve gender equality and parity
According to Wikipedia, Gender equality is the state of equal ease of access to resources and opportunities regardless of gender, including economic participation and decision-making; and the state of valuing different behaviours, aspirations, and needs equally, regardless of gender.
When it comes to gender equality, we need to revisit the statistics. If women represent only 25% of senior roles globally, then men hold the power relative to talent and succession. They are the decision makers and this has significant implications for our female leaders.
Discrimination remains one of the biggest barriers to women moving into leadership roles or even enjoying leadership roles.
According to a study by Harris Interactive, 25% of women report discrimination and unfair treatment at work. It is now imperative for organisations to have a more proactive approach to achieving gender equality.
In 2020, the global gender pay gap was estimated to be around 16%, meaning women earned about 84 cents for every dollar earned by men. [Source: World Economic Forum, [Global Gender Gap Report 2020]
In Nigeria, the gender pay gap is significant, with women earning approximately 49.4% less than men. [Source: World Economic Forum, [Global Gender Gap Report 2020]
In 2021, women held only 21.7% of senior management positions in Africa, indicating the gender disparity in leadership roles. [Source: McKinsey & Company, [Women in the Workplace Africa 2021 Report]
Representation of Women on Boards in Africa: In Africa, women occupy only about 14.4% of corporate board seats, indicating a significant gender disparity in board representation. [Source: African Development Bank Group, [African Economic Outlook 2021]
Impact of Gender Equality on GDP in Africa: Achieving gender equality in Africa could lead to a potential increase of about $316 billion to the continent's GDP by 2025. [Source: McKinsey & Company, [The Power of Parity: Advancing Women's Equality in Africa]
The following are strategies I recommend for companies to implement on their journey toward achieving gender equality in the workplace:
1.Conduct a gender pay gap analysis- Conduct an analysis on payment across the company to identify if you have a gender pay gap issue so you can implement pay parity across the board.
2.Create safe spaces - Provide a safe space for women, organisations additionally should train staff generally on certain dos and don'ts of workplace etiquette that border majorly on scenarios that create unsafe spaces for women
3.Audit your company - Conduct a company audit across women and ask women to anonymously list the things that make them uncomfortable being a woman in the workplace, you will get good insights and use those common responses to create a word cloud where you will gain insights on common themes.
4. Training -Training plays a pivotal role in advancing gender equality within organisations. By implementing targeted training programs, companies can proactively address biases, foster inclusivity, and empower women to thrive in leadership roles.
Gender Sensitivity Training: Training sessions focused on gender sensitivity help employees understand the complexities of gender dynamics in the workplace. These sessions can cover topics such as unconscious bias, microaggressions, and inclusive language. By raising awareness of these issues, employees are better equipped to recognize and challenge discriminatory behaviour, creating a more inclusive work environment
5. Proactive creation of opportunities - Provide equal opportunities for growth and development: Organisations can provide equal opportunities for promotions and leadership positions to all employees regardless of gender. They can also offer training and development programs to help women and underrepresented genders advance their careers.
6. Establish a diverse and inclusive culture: Organisations can create a culture that promotes diversity and inclusivity. This can be achieved by encouraging open communication, acknowledging and valuing diversity, and creating a safe and respectful work environment.
7. Develop more female initiatives -The work organisation is skewed towards men and is generally seen as the Boys Club, companies need to actively create more initiatives for women that will further aid the quick succession of women into leadership roles. Female Leadership Initiatives -To reduce the gap and fix the shortage of women in senior management, there is a need for the creation of leadership initiatives targeted at women
A female mentorship programme that allows women in leadership to train young proteges on a defined frequency,
Development of incentive based on the mentor’s ability to create opportunities for females to excel and transition to higher positions.
8. Gender-specific training- Gender-based leadership training that takes into cognisance women’s natural disposition and provides adequate leadership training -This initiative will help bridge the gap and eventually transition to both genders naturally garnering well-deserved sponsorship and a voice at the most senior levels, including board representation.
9. Organisational restructuring- Change in structure to support women, bearing in mind the traditional gender roles that have the woman as the caregiver. Management style should be flexible taking into cognisance both genders’ natural dispositions and not use a one size fits all approach. Also, the structure should ensure there is zero tolerance toward gender discrimination.
10 Development opportunities- Women should be given development opportunities that are necessary to support progression into higher levels of management and ultimately into board positions.
11. Occupational desegregation- Companies with roles that are strongly segregated along gender lines should make a conscious effort that will lead to more female inclusion.
12. Female Networking Events -Formal and informal networks can help men gain influence and access to high-ranking positions. Furthermore, the scarcity of women in senior positions means that any male networks.
13. Government laws and policies- There should be policies that provide the approved ratio of male to female in senior management, these defined ratios that should be relevant and applicable to each industry to further close the gap.
Closing the gap in the gender‐segregated area can have a lasting and profound effect on the development of a company and a nation.
It is important to ensure gender-neutral teams because diversity brings different perspectives and ideas to the table, leading to better decision-making and problem-solving. When teams are diverse and inclusive, employees feel valued and empowered, leading to increased job satisfaction and retention.
Gender-neutral teams also help to break down stereotypes and biases, creating a more equitable and just society. In the end, gender equality is a win-win for all.
