See, this is what happens when people don't count important details in storytelling just because it's not being said outright, but rather shown through character expressions without dialogue. There were hints from the beginning that Stella was always meant to be a bad person and an obstacle to Stolas' feelings for Blitzø.

Don't believe me? Watch Loo Loo Land again with more open ears and eyes. Stella is shown throwing stuff at Stolas, including his sentient plants which he values highly and she was likely aware of that. That imp butler she threw at him means she not only abuses Stolas, but her own servants too, especially those of a particular lower class race.

Octavia's expressions here imply that this isn't an isolated incident either. That's the look of a girl who's heard this same type of arguing from her parents everyday. With how annoyed she looks, Stolas and Stella might as well have been fighting like this for years. It'd be more surprising if they didn't.

Octavia's lack of a reaction to her mom throwing a plant that almost hit her implies that this is far from the first time Stella has thrown things around the house. That is a concerning thing to get used to. Stella is also heard yelling about Stolas sleeping with an IMP, in THEIR bed. Notice the emphasis on "imp" and "our" bed. Even Stolas' only response to that is "I didn't have time to go to a motel!" It's pretty clear here that Stella is more concerned about about Stolas cheating on her with an imp specifically and ruining her reputation than the fact that he cheated at all.

If she was truly upset about the cheating itself, she would've said something more along the lines of "I can't believe you slept with someone else!" or something like that. Throwing their imp butler and him saying "You wanna fuck this one too?" and calling Stolas "pathetic, imp-sucking face" is all you need to know that Stella is making it more about WHO Stolas cheated on her with than the fact that he cheated. Keep in mind that this argument was going on right in front of Via, who didn't even say anything or try to stop it.

Octavia here says "You two done screaming for the day?" with little emotion, and Stolas' reply basically amounts to "Yup" without hesitation. More and more proof that his marriage with Stella was NEVER happy and never something that he wanted.

Later in the episode, Via does say that her parents used to love each other, even though we as the audience know it's not true. Stolas even tries to explain to her that he and Stella were never in love to begin with, but he didn't have the words. Because how exactly can you explain to your daughter that you and your wife were in an arranged marriage since you guys were kids for the sole purpose of producing a child, without offending her and making her think she was only born for one purpose? Or better yet, what reason is there to assume that she'd actually believe you?

People have looked at this picture on the wall and somehow came to the conclusion that Stolas and Stella used to be in a happy, loving relationship based on this picture alone, just because Stella is smiling in it. But if you look cloesly, you'll see that smile on Stella is barely there. She's very obviously faking it to keep up an image. She's forcing it so people won't get suspicious. This is the vision of Stella that Octavia remembers from her youth, which is exactly why she was naive enough to believe that her parents genuinely loved each other before Blitzø came along for a one night stand in hopes of getting the grimoire. Sure, she had seen them arguing and fighting with each other before that, but that's mainly because most if not all parents have gotten into nasty arguments at some point that their children were more likely than not to witness.

Stella is barely looking at Stolas there, clearly rolling her eyes and just wanting the picture to be overwith already. Stolas is genuinely happy there, but that's because his "little owlette" is there with him. He's not looking at Stella at all. Another picture in their house with just Stolas and Stella together has both of them frowning and looking at the camera, not each other. Octavia is the only thing to come out of Stolas' marriage that ever gave him any real happiness. She was the only reason he stayed at that house.

That scene where Stella ignores Octavia's cry for help when she's having a nightmare and tells Stolas to go check on her instead is more evidence that Stella had never been a nice person or a good mother. You could argue that she was just too tired to do anything about it, but look again. Stolas was just as tired as she was, yet he still went out of way to comfort his "little Starfire" when she was having a bad dream. Octavia may have called for both of her parents, but she said she had a bad dream about her father disappearing. Not her parents, just her father.

Also notice the drawings in Octavia's bedroom when she's a child. Look at how many of them are of her and Stolas together, but Stella is nowhere to be found in those drawings. That shows how close Via is to her father, especially when she was a little girl, but was never really close to her mother at all. Sure, those drawings are no longer in Via's room when she's a teen in the present, but remember that her and Stolas gradually got less close to each other as the years went by and their relationship got more flawed, to the point that Via questions if her dad even loves her anymore and literally listens to music about hating dads. But the fact remains that there were never any drawings of Stella in her daughter's room and there still isn't now is pretty telling that Stella was never a good mom, still isn't now and likely never will be.

Now look at The Harvest Moon Festival. If Loo Loo Land didn't convince you that Stella was a bitch, then this episode sure will. Stella's only scene in the episode is her screaming into a phone while she's talking to Striker about wanting Stolas dead. Right in front of him and Octavia. While Via is listening to music that's too loud for her to have even heard the screaming, Stolas heard it pretty clearly. But he had no reaction to his own wife screeching about hiring an assassin to kill him. Him being completely unphased by something like that is surely a sign that Stella had always hated his guts and he knew about it. He likely heard her shouting at the top of her lungs about wanting to murder him with her own bare hands. If he's not reacting to Stella talking to Striker on the phone about planning his death in front of him, he might as well have been hearing shit like that from her for years.

Not counting the pilot, those are the only two scenes with Stella in season 1. Both scenes depicted her in the same light. A loud, violent bitch in a loveless marriage. Therefore, her reveal in The Circus about always hating Stolas from the get go is not a retcon. Not that there was even much known about her character for there to be retconned in the first place, but her few scenes before that episode showed her doing and saying nothing BUT horrible things.

As for Stolitz, Blitzø is more than once implied to return Stolas' feelings for him. He just never said it out loud and is in denial about his own feelings. He's not even aware that Stolas' love for him is genuine because between their reuniting at the Not Divorce Party and their fumbled fake date at Ozzie's, Stolas has only ever talked to Blitzø with sexual innuendos. So Blitzø had no reason to assume that Stolas was legitimately in love him and didn't just want him for sexy times, because Stolas hadn't really been helping his case. Blitzø ranted to Fizzarolli about Stolas "acting" like he cared about him outside of sex.

Everytime Blitzø talks about Stolas treating him like his own personal fuck toy, he looks and sounds pretty upset about it. I doubt he'd care all that much about his relationship with Stolas being transactional fucking if he didn't like him back. Right after the fake date gone wrong at Ozzie's, Blitzø is looking at several pictures saved in his phone, one of them being a photo of him Stolas laying together in bed. Blitzø looks genuinely happy in that photo, he's even smiling. He DOES enjoy being around Stolas. After Loona comforts him, he can be heard whispering the names of all the people he cares about and is close to. Those people being Loona, Moxxie, Millie and.... Stolas.

In Seeing Stars, Blitzø blushes when seeing Stolas in his human form and you can see his pupils dialating for a few seconds before he changes for a few seconds. I don't know about you, but I don't blush at anyone i'm not in love with when they get a new look. Pupils dialating are also a commom indication that you're looking at something you love. Later in that episode, Blitzo nervously sweats when Stolas whispers into his ear with a seductive voice, smiles at Stolas specifically when he causes the whole audience to laugh, and holds his hand while they run out of the burning building. Blitzø did not need to hold Stolas' hand. He could've just said "Hey, let's get the fuck outta here," and Stolas wouldn't have hesitated. On top of that, they are still shown holding hands long after they escaped and only let go once they see their daughters.

Now, onto the most complicated scene involving the Stolitz relationship, during Blitzø's ball tripping hallucination where he sees Stolas on top of a staircase and is being pulled towards him with chains. Already not a good sign. But Blitzø was already climbing the staircase before the chains appeared. Even when he saw Stolas above him, he didn't run away. He briefly walked towards him before being dragged towards him. He's seen blushing once he reaches the top and Stolas caresses his face. Also notice how the art style in Blitzø's ball trip sequence was completely different from how the show normally looks, but the moment he saw Stolas the art style changed back to normal. Meaning that Blitzø feels the most like himself when he's around Stolas.

He just wants to be in a legit, healthy relationship with Stolas out of love, not the transactional fuck buddy situation he's in right now. He wishes that Stolas would stop calling him degrading nicknames like "impish little plaything" and is bothered by the power imbalance between the two of them.

"Show, don't tell" is an important writing tool that isn't respected these days. If a story isn't being anvilicious and spoonfeeding you information with heavy-handed exposition and infodumps left and right, then foreshadowing details get dismissed and ignored, with some people straight up saying they don't count because it's not being spelled out to them every 5 seconds. This is why some people still insist that Stella's villainy was retconned and that Blitzø has no interest in Stolas despite evidence to the contrary. They were paying more attention to their headcanons than what the show actually presented, and got mad when their headcanons were contradicted by canon.

Finally finished with the redone Undersiders as the Mall Cluster. Still cannibalized a lot of the secondaries from my previous attempt, but I'm happy with it. Entire thing is under the line cause I don't wanna clog people's pages.

Cluster Mechanic

Every night the group wakes up in the dream room. A rotating member of the cluster is given two tokens to hand out. Whoever is holding a token at the end of the dream gets an additional aspect of their primary unlocked.

Taylor

Trigger: Danny and Taylor made it out of Earth Bet as the world ended, but Annette didn't. Emma, after being attacked by a gang (potentially the Fallen) and saved by Sophia, turned on her. Bullied and abused, Taylor slowly began to fall out of society. Feeling less and less connected to others, feeling less and less like a person. Things came to a head when she's found by the Trio at the mall and locked inside a garbage room. As the flames grow closer and no one hears her cries for help, Taylor feels at her most trapped and alone, both metaphorically and literally. Trigger.

Primary: A master power with very rough control of bugs and a blink mover power that allows her to move between clumps of bugs roughly as big as she is.

Token Boost: When she teleports but before she reforms, she's spread throughout her swarm and gains a master power equivalent to Skitter. Feels at that moment however like she's trapped in darkness.

Sarah Secondary: A thinker power that allows her to understand potential angles of attack and a sixth sense of when they are coming as a slow building anxiety.

Alec Secondary: A master power that allows her to shout commands. Those who hear it feel their bodies moving without their control. Effects fade after a few seconds.

Brian secondary: Forms a cloud of inky blackness around herself. Affords weak brute powers, but mainly stranger capabilities, dampening noise and hiding her.

Rachel Secondary: Wet tinker power focused on modifying bats to increase sonic abilities, boost intelligence to follow simple commands.

Sarah

Trigger: After the end of the world, Sarah's family lost everything. While coping they found religion; the Fallen found them soon after. When her parents joined, her brother seemed to be the only one who managed to land on his feet. He made friends, formed connections, and kept their families standing while the rest of them felt like they were floundering. When he killed himself, it was a massive blow and the Fallen looked down on them for it. Pressure. Pressure from all angles to keep performing, to make up for it, and to do better. Sarah suffered the worst of it, including pressure from her parents that she should have done more, should have seen this coming. She picked up the slack and took his place at the mall attack. As she sees the fire rising and hears the screams of people inside, she realizes this is what her brother was trying to avoid so badly, he was willing to die to stop it. As the molotov slips from her fingers, she wonders what her brother would think of her now. Trigger.

Primary: A pre-cognitive zone thinker power, able to feel visceral sights/sounds of things to come in an area. However, this power is vaguer the further away from the event she is. Glimpses at a day, better understanding an hour away, perfect vision bare seconds before the event is happening.

Token Boost: Enhanced reactions and understanding during events, allowing for combat thinker capabilities.

Taylor Secondary: Blink mover ability dependent on damage. Transferring attacks on herself into a teleport that blasts out with force those she teleports near.

Alec Secondary: Master power to erode the will of someone, eliciting feelings of dread and despair after long enough. Power works through focused line of sight.

Brian secondary: Able to leak a smokescreen, thick and inky, from her pores. Loosely prehensile, can turn from a gas to liquid appendage that stings and numbs what it hits.

Rachel Secondary: Wet tinker power to modify sheep/goats with combat abilities, will act like guardians.

Alec

Trigger: Gold Morning upended many things, but Jean-Paul used it as his chance to finally escape the thumb of his father. Somewhere along the way, he met Olivia. They were inseparable ever since, moving place to place, though he always was looking over his shoulder for dear old dad. Not quite dating, never the right word, but together. In many ways, it felt like the first connection he ever had. Someone who drew things out of him that he thought were gone. Then the mall. They were separated in the rush and he spent his time looking for her. As he searches, half blinded and deafened by smoke and screams, he finally finds her body, trampled when the attack began. Trigger.

Primary: A single minion master. Forms a minion that resembles Olivia out of himself. She leaves with his emotions, putting him in a burnscar-esque emotional state. She's very swift and mobile, but weak to damage and Alec gets backlash from her breaking apart.

Token Boost: She radiates his emotions to others around her, intensly.

Taylor Secondary: Enters a mover state where he becomes faster and more agile while leaving behind a trail of harrying vermin.

Sarah Secondary: Thinker power to understand what others are thinking/feeling in an area. Surface level understanding without deeper insight.

Brian: Stranger power that gives him a sense when others are looking at him. Is able to blur the senses of one person of his choice, including powered sense.

Rachel: Wet tinker ability to modify birds with increased surveillance abilities, able to relay information.

Brian

Trigger: When GM happened, the Laborne siblings lost their parents. Reeling from the loss, but neither able to articulate it, they are forced to forge on. Brian takes the brunt of it, working construction jobs to try and make money. He doesn't have enough time to be with Aisha, to keep her in check, but as long as they're both safe, he's fine with that. They head to the mall on one of his free days to get her stuff for a new school year when the attack happens. Caught outside, they're ganged up by Fallen members and Brian is taken down by a blow to the back. He lies on the ground disoriented and unable to work up the strength or motivation to stand as he watches Aisha take her first few hits. Trigger.

Primary: Brian leaks a smoky mist he's able to form into a sword. The sword is weightless allowing for fast and continuous attacks, and hits with a force harder than it should.

Token Boost: The swords hits have the added effect of momentarily deafening and blinding who they hit.

Taylor Secondary: blink power to teleport around a set zone centered on his first teleport. Needs to move manually from first spot to change zone radius.

Sarah: A precog power focused on one person or thing to warn of incoming attacks. Allows for combat thinker-esque reactions to those warnings.

Alec: a single shot blaster power with good accuracy. Hits others with a sense of pacification. Emotion hits are cumulative, clouding judgement.

Rachel: Wet tinker abilities to modify offensive and defensive aspects of a single wolf.

Rachel

Trigger: A poor girl on the streets after the world ended, Rachel had to fight to keep what she had. Without a real connection to keep her safe though, she was one of thousands that slipped through the cracks. Like so many other people, she was found by the Fallen and press-ganged. Things were harder on her now because she didn't fit in. She was violent and could hold her own, sure, but she still couldn't connect to others, still couldn't quite understand them, and so she was pushed to the fringes of the group. She found herself caring for animals under Bamet, something she had proven good at. Things didn't get better and because of this position, she couldn't escape the stigma or try to improve with others. It comes to a head at the mall, when she see her dog Rollo get shot and go down. She rushes to save him and is pulled back by the hands of her compatriots. She in anger fights to break free, but can't shake so many and her pleas fall on deaf ears. Again, she can't even articulate or have them understand what she's trying to do. Trigger.

Primary: Wet tinker ability to modify dogs, granting some increased combat capability, but mainly making them more intelligent.

Token Boost: Able to make medication to grant temporary boosts beyond what her modifications can normally do.

Taylor Secondary: Master power to control a small group of rats. Power puts her in a dissociative state.

Sarah Secondary: Combat thinker power focusing on understanding her own body and movement with enhanced reflexes. Give vague feelings of intentions of others.

Alec secondary: Shaker power centered on herself. Those caught in the radius are forced into an emotion of Rachel's choosing.

Brian secondary: Striker power to imbue her strikes with mild smoke. Imparts an increased force (like a shove) and a cumulative disorientation/blindness.

-Megatron's first initial thought upon learning this is "God damn these organics stupid, I am literally aiming to take over their planet" but then it morphs into "Hmm, maybe I can use this to my benefit?".

His new plan is to turn the human public against the autobots, to portray the decepticons in a sympathetic light and sow discord in the populace. Not everyone is going to side with the decepticons but it will be enough people that it will be disruptive. As the leader of the decepticons, not to mention a former gladiator, Megatron is highly charismatic and can easily turn some starstruck humans into willing servants.

-Starscream enjoys the attention and will manipulate his fans into pitying him. While yes, he would rather be revered, worshipped, he knows from experience that it's easier to gain sympathy from pity than being actually liked. Bemoans his tragic life, how everyone turns against him, really plays up how fragile his armor is in comparison to some of the other cons like Megatron or Breakdown.

Uses this pity to get his human fans to give him things. Energon and spare parts, mainly. He acts all grateful to their faces but the moment he's alone he snickers about how easily deceived these stupid humans are.

-Just like Megatron, Soundwave immediately starts manipulating the media feed to show the decepticon's in a sympathetic, more positive light. While Megatron is the poster boy, Soundwave works behind the scenes, creating thousands of fake accounts to spread the support for decepticons.

While he takes this task as serious as he would any other, Soundwave secretly finds this relaxing since it's a bit more laid back and has less lethal consequences if he just so happens to fail. Assigns a squad of vehicons to become full time photographers.

-Now you just know that Knockout LOVES the attention. He reads every comment and likes every post that mentions how good looking he is. Somehow becomes even more obsessed with his appearance now that the knows that he's got billions of eyes on him. He can't afford to disappoint his fans after all.

Honestly just seeking validation. He's not used to feeling wanted or appreciated so he will take any scrap of positive attention that he can get, even from humans.

-Breakdown finds it embarrassing at first, unsure how to handle all of this sudden attention. Eventually though he realizes that people like him and that they think he's super cool and wow, that just does wonders for his ego. He walks a little prouder, puffs his chest a little higher.

Still finds it awkward to read comments though. These people don't really know him and they mainly go off his general vibes and appearance and that feels a little too shallow for his tastes.

-Out of everyone, Shockwave is the least interested in all of this. Really, he does not care about the opinion of some humans. There's not a lot I can write about his reaction because he simply thinks nothing off it. It might as well not have happened.

Almost every writer experiences demanding readers and their comments, if not every. I don’t mean to sound as if I’m complaining all the time because that’s far from the truth, I often try to see it from a more positive perspective and I’ll be forever thankful that people are invested and excited about my stories. Trust me, 90% of the time I just ignore those kind of comments because I know it’s something every writer is going through. And it’s obvious the more readers the story has, the more comments like this it will get. I mainly speak about it when I’ve had enough and why I spoke recently is exactly this reason.

I told myself to be a little bit more open, even though I didn’t have to be. It wouldn’t take a genius to figure out that the whole deleting story issue was already enough. I also spoke about my online and offline struggles. Then many people started copying, reposting and translating MH which I never allowed and never will. I had to deal with that every day, a couple of times actually. Why I decided to speak up again is because like I said before, I’ve had enough and I thought those people are selfish in a way, even though they’re obviously excited. But being a little more empathetic in a time like this, or ever actually, isn’t some kind of impossible task.

I got so much more selfish asks and comments from readers, but I decided to not share them because it won’t do any good. But sometimes I get annoyed too and I feel like it’s important to show this side too, set boundaries and all that. I know not everyone will understand that, based on some of the reactions readers had. But that’s okay. At least I said something and if they still decide to be assholes, that’s on them.

guys, i actually love seeing your mike and max parallels, but don't go to such an extent to say that they have the same amount and type of trauma pls <3 (saying that they are 'same person, different font' lightheartedly is totally okay ofc !!!)

for ONCE theres a nuanced character with a realistic arc on how abuse affects ones perception of self and worth/how guilt comes into the picture and then you try to make it abt some other character, who DOES have trauma, but on a whole different plane? dont link max and mike like that smh, if u wanna talk abt the parallels, DO, but not that pls.

max has suffered so much due to her abuse related to b1lly where he made it seem like her loved ones hurting was her fault (a closely related thing to this is hopper's trauma where he feels like he has a curse which is then spread to people whom he gets close too) and she's dealing with him dying in such a violent way because she had a visceral reaction to it, not because she loves him. she feels guilt for wanting him to die, so that when he actually did, and died quite brutally, it made it seem like she was the one who wished for it and made it happen in her mind. its not the most rational thought process, but she's a 14 y/o teenager whose been through a lot and her perception of relationships is pretty fucked up, so yes, her trauma is still absolutely valid.

mike on the other hand is dealing w a completely different form of trauma rooted in a different reason, im not gonna talk abt him here because this post is supposed to about max, but just know that relating their trauma (not them) is not a viable option in any way.

ALSO !!! pls stop mentioning lumax in a "oooh look byler is paralleling lumax" post or vice versa. the lumax tag has less followers than the byler tag (which it shouldn't but...) and its activity will be disrupted by having posts mainly related to byler/appealing to a byler audience in it. also you can't call yourself a lumax stan when you only ever mention lumax in context w byler.

tldr; max and lumax should be talked abt in contexts apart from mike and byler respectively.

Why don’t we start with the piece de resistance? 

This was literally shown at the BTS exhibition.  The lighting.  The pose.  The angle of the camera. The sultry eyes, swollen lips, JK looks like he might not be wearing a top, JM’s upper body seems to be blacked out (there are photos circulating with JM bare chest but they seem to be an edited version of the actual photo that was shown at the exhibition, said photo with JM’s chest blacked out).

Nothing sus what so ever.  

Ok then...

And this one...Bon Voyage Hawaii.  The night they slept in their own room together, after JK ‘lost’ the game they were playing not on purpose at all (wink wink).  No, seriously guys, he’s absolute shit at that game, he didn’t lose on purpose, and that definitely wasn’t a happy dance he was dancing there after not losing the game on purpose...

This is the only documentation of them in that room.  No cameras entered that room (other than their own).  And if they did, we definitley did not get to see any of the footage (unlike our footage from their ITS night escapades).

Everything that followed in that moment was definitely not boyfriendie either.  Not JM’s reaction, nor JK’s scolding.  Nope.

And if hands is what we’re talking about, what is it you are doing with your hand Mr. Park?  Not to mention that insistent JK claiming what’s his, no matter the cost (in this case a hit to the privates).

Ok, so here they were definitely caught off guard.  JM’s reaction was smooth like butter.  It’s JK, same JK that was caught just leaning into JM staring up at him.  Same JK that 'walked away’ from the whole thing stress written all over his face while hyperventilating.  

Yes, it looks like a pretty intimate moment.  JK looking up at JM, not the camera.  But his reaction, that panic you can see on his face...

Now to the special relationship between JK and JM’s butt.

Not the first or last time we talk about this, but you see, there are those very special moments where you look and go: “well, that’s REALLY too much”.  Even for the butt loving JK, who will hit any butt (well of the people he knows, loves and that won’t have him charged for sexual harassment, that is).  JM does have a very special affiliation with JM’s back side, and I have spoken many a times about it, with MULTIPLE examples, lol.

But, pun intended, these few examples are JK kind of crossing a line between what can be perceived as a friendly butt tap and a whatever you wanna call what he was doing, lol.  

Oh, and do I have to talk about JM’s reactions too?

And side note: I’m not gonna describe each and every one of these, mainly because they are beyond description, lol.

The difference between the members reactions is priceless.  Hobi smiling and laughing, cause it’s real funny.  Is it though?  Cause Jin doesn’t seem to think it is, lol.

I also kind of wonder how these moments made it to the content.  I guess there is just so much you can cut...

As I was about to wrap it up this moment just revealed itself, and although I have already posted it in my Coway clip post, I couldn’t pass the opportunity, not with this JK supposedly being ‘subtle’ post, right?

This man, a one Mr. Jeon Jungkook, has mastered the art of finding his way to JM’s side.  Near or far, no obstacle will stand in his way, not even a leader or a very scary Suga.  In this case, at the sight of a walking away Mr. Park Jimin.  He notices and speeds into action.  Road Runner is no match for a one Mr. Jeon Jungkook.  Not with a Park Jimin in sight.

I just love how complex the Todoroki family is. Enji stopped training Touya because he cared about him and didn’t want to see him hurt, but he completely failed to show him that he actually cared and instead just made him feel like a broken toy that’s been replaced. Touya specifically says Enji lit the fire under him to wanna become a hero, which he is now trying to stop, but at the same time he learns nothing from this and does the same with Shoto.

Touya seems to react especially harshly to women because he thinks they cannot relate to his feelings about wanting to be a hero. Indeed Rei and Fuyumi both don’t have such ambitions, but neither does Natsuo which suprises Touya but his reaction is more shock than anger. I wonder if this is just him projecting from seeing his parents, believing that men are ambitious and women are not, or if it is more of a cultural bias/sexism, though I am leaning towards the first because he doesn’t seem to socialize much with people outside his family.

It is also interesting how despite having similar upbringings, Shoto and Touya seem to develop in opposite directions. Touya is very angry towards his mother but does hold admiration for his dad and wants his approval, and wants to train to become a hero. He interacts with his siblings but doesn’t seem to care much for it. Shoto doesn’t show much interest in training amd would rather play with his siblings, develops a much more protective feeling about his mother (which continues even after she burns him) and wants to reject his dad entirely.

I would guess this comes from the way in which they were first trained. When Touya was born Enji was not that desperate yet and actually seemed to train him with praise and affection, showing him love to an extent, which lead to Touya associating very positive feelings with training and being a hero, only turning cruel once he feared that it would be taken away. With Shoto on the other hand Enji was getting desperate, he kept him separated from the others (partially to protect shoto, but I think here it was more to protect his perfect hero than out of actual care) and forced him to train. He was seemingly always angry and expectations were high so nothing Shoto did was ever good enough, leading him to associate very negative feelings with both training and his father. When he then saw his mother suffer under him too he felt the need to protect her.

I wanna write something about Rei too but I find it difficult to place her right now - the two strongest symbolisms for her in the episode are definitely the eyes and the flowers - the flowers could mean that at some point there was something like actual love between her and Enji, but tbh I find that unlikely from what we‘ve seen. I tink it‘s more that she tried to find it in herself to love their family and make it work (like she said try to keep smiling despite circumstances). also it seems the eyes she saw on shoto reminded her not just of endeavor but of touya too, so was she - in her delirious state when she burned him - somehow trying to stop shoto from turning out like touya too? in general how did her mental state develop? it’s my interpretation that when we saw Enji hit her in the episode it was the first time he got physically violent this way, and while I don’t think it happened very often, I also don’t think it was the last time - and I assume it was a breaking point for both of them (his “angry face“ or as Rei calls it “his eyes“ keep getting worse and worse as the episode goes along and I think in this scene it’s at its worst so it would make sense that we are seeing the first time this face ever appeared, the first time it has gotten this bad, so that’s why I think it’s the first physical abuse)

(also random side note but I found it weird how quirk marriages were presented as something very bad but arranged marriages were apparently fine, and I‘m very sure this is a cultural thing but still - the irony when it’s basically the same thing)

Fuyumi and Natsuo get the least attention in this episode so there is little to comment on them. I am curious how Natsuo turned to be so resentful of his father while Fuyumi didn’t. We both see them in roughly the same positions, watching as Touya attacks Shoto, hiding from Enji as he beats Rei, playing with Touya. The only difference is how Touya interacts with them individually but I doubt this will be the deciding factor in their personalities so I will leave this up to ”we‘ll hopefully find out later“. Perhaps it is due to Fuyumi being born earlier, so she still remembers a time when Enji was not so cruel to them and thinks they can go “back“ to being a happy family, while I think Natsuo said at some point that Enji was like a stranger to him so it makes sense he wouldn’t care to get something back that he never had.

As Rei calls out, Enji has a tendency to run from his parental duties. He says about raising Touya that he could only show him the world of a hero, so when he decides Touya cannot be one, he basically stops trying to raise him and pushes it onto Rei (The same may be true for his other children but it’s unclear). I would guess here that he has started to realize the impact he has had on Touya turning out the way he had so far, but he doesn’t trust himself to do better and basically feels unfit to be an actual parent, so he thinks the best way is to remove himself enitrely. He confirms this again in the hospital in the present, saying the reason he didn’t go to see Touya show him his new move is because he wouldn’t have known what to say, so he did nothing. This leads me to think, in a situation where Enji is truly challenged (or at least emotionally) his fear reaction is neither fight nor flight, it is actually freeze (ironic tbh). We see this trend continue in recent episodes, when Natsuo is in danger he freezes, when Dabi reveals himself he freezes, both times other people need to step in to do his job, and luckily they could. In the past when he expected Rei to step in and do his job, she couldn’t (and partially because Touya had already been molded to resent her). Enji felt trapped by his own feelings of inadequacy and Rei‘s powerlessness so he let his anger out on her.

Short version: In parenting, Enji knows how to light the fire of ambition under his children but he can’t put it out and expects Rei to step in and do it, but she can’t. Just wanted to point this out again to put it in relation to their quirks, because I fully think it was intended that the fire quirk person is the one who lights the fire and the ice quirk person is expected to put it out - and how this doesn’t work is also reflected in the name of the episode ”the wrong way to put out a fire“

Anyway this post was not meant to follow any real structure (and it didn’t) but now it developed to where I wanna put some sort of conclusion. Drawing again from the title of the episode, it is implied that there was a right way to put out the fire, but that the wrong one was chosen. The wrong way was Enji running from his mistakes and pushing them onto Rei when it was already out of her control, the right way would be him finally breaking out of his frozen fear state and accepting the responsibility of being an actual father. So as nice of a gesture it is that everyone gathered around his bed to tell him they‘ll help, ultimately the job has to be his. That being said I have no idea how this story will end. I‘m not one to call anybody irredeemable, but I do not see how Touya could have anything close to a realistic redemption arc with the state of mind he is in, however it doesn’t seem right to just kill or lock him up forever either. It’s in your hands Hori.

Maknae Line + ARMY = Power Dynamics (Pt 2)

We love them and they love us right back. It's what makes the ARMY/BTS relationship what it is, and it is genuine.

It is also a power imbalance.

Less of one, these days, but it is still there. And WE HOLD THE POWER. We LOVE THEM. We are the driving force behind BTS' success. We hold their actual paychecks in our hands.

That's... a lot. A lot of love. A lot of paychecks. And a lot of power.

And it lends itself, unfortunately for both us and them, to a lot of abnormal behavior. OH WAIT LET'S READ THAT DISCLAIMER AGAIN

In my last post I said that BTS is a safe place for ARMY to explore sexuality.

THE REVERSE IS NOT TRUE.

Never has been, never will be, because ARMY was never designed for that. We are not their safe space. Not if they're straight, even more not if they're gay or bi or pan or heaven forbid gender non-conforming.

They accept us as we are because they love us, but we are under NO OBLIGATION TO DO THE SAME FOR THEM. And... as a general rule, ARMY - OT7 ARMY, anyway - doesn't. But also we do. And don't. Very confusing, ARMY reactions.

Hell, when have they ever had TIME to grow into healthy, normal adult sexual relationships? They lived together until some of them were nearly 25, FFS. Well beyond college age for Seokjin and Yoongi and well into it for the rest of them. That they seem to be reasonably well-adjusted is a credit to them and their partners, should they have any. Again, the hyungs have excelled, here. Mainly because they've never really HAD "dating scandals", which: ARE THE STUPIDEST IDEA OF A SCANDAL.

Literally how stupid is it to be upset that a famous person who is an adult human might also be (gasp, clutch pearls, die) having sex? Out in the world adulting like a whole adult WITH PEOPLE? And yet, ARMY gets like that sometimes.

So, today I turn 26. Forgive me, I'm going to be a little nostalgic and sappy below the cut about age and you all and fanfiction.

I turn 26 today, and I'm feeling very nostalgic and odd about it. I've never had a good relationship with my birthday. Mainly because every year, I think, really? Again?

In all honesty, I never thought I would make it this far. I never planned to get this old (and I am aware that I'm not old). But a large part of who I am and my continued existence, is because of this blog.

Even when the world was loud and things were bad, I could always come here.

Some of you have been here for nearly the whole time I've been writing. While I've never been particularly open about what's going on in my life, you've all gotten me through a lot. The characters I write for sure, but more than that you all and the interactions I get to have with you.

So, I just wanna say thanks. Especially to those of you that have stayed through the rollercoaster of new interests in the last year, and allowing me to explore them.

I know some loved this blog because it was only Bucky all the time. In that was my safe space for a long time, because it was familiar. I couldn't even branch out into new media because it was too uncertain. Starting a new show or movie literally gave me debilitating anxiety.

While I've still have a lot of issues and things I'm working though, and found out some horrible things from my mother about my childhood, I'm much better at working through that than I ever have been.

A lot of that has to do with you all, and the attitudes around mental health. I've learned a lot from all of you. I've learned how to be kinder and gentler, I've learned how to stand up for myself and others and that silence is never okay.

I started writing when I was 19 and a freshman in college. I was anxious and depressed. I was scared. I was in therapy because the suicidal ideation had reached a peak. I was miserable as an undergrad, I hated the jobs I had, and nothing seemed worth it.

And then, I started writing. First, letters to people that I would never send. Then, fiction, at the behest of my therapist. It wasn't good. It was dark and mean. I realized I wasn't just hurt, I was angry.

But I've never known how to be angry, not really. I was never allowed.

And then I started writing fanfiction. And in those little worlds, no matter what else was happening, there was always someone who was kind and understanding, someone who got it.

And when I started posting (and I realize how stupid this sounds) I realized based on reactions that I was not the only person who needed that, who sought it out, and who understood me even if they didn't realize they did.

It gave me a reason to keep going. Writing and knowing that someone would read it and identify with it, kept me going.

Now, I'm 26. I've moved abroad, made friends with people I would have never met otherwise. I'm getting my masters degree in something that's really important to me. I've gotten to travel to places I was convinced I'd never see because I couldn't see past the next month, let alone the next couple of years.

And although I still have lows and highs, and plenty of undiagnosed issues, I feel like I can handle it. The weight isn't as heavy as it used to be.

Not to get too preachy about it, but don't do it like I did, if you're struggling. Talk to people, let others help you shoulder it. Only inadvertently did I do that through this blog and I can never be thankful enough.

I love all of you, truly from the very bottom of my heart I do.

I wanted to be upset about turning 26, but I just can't manage it. I never thought I'd get this far.

Drizzle Season 2023 is out for Splatoon 3. You know what that means?

(Long post warning)

It means me having the totally normal immediate reaction of, "what new ingame content can I use as inspiration for Humanity's Endling and it's side stories?"

This post is gonna sorta double as both a very surface level analysis of new stuff in Splatoon 3 (mainly the new maps) and a brief look into my creative process for how I go about taking what's shown in the game and applying it to the canon of the world Kaleb finds himself in. One of my goals is to keep what happens in HE as close to the canon as presented in the game as possible, while still making very healthy use of the blank space that is things the games nor extended lore don't necessarily address, and quite obviously bending the rules a bit here and there to make the story... well, happen? 'Cause if I were 100% dedicated to preserving canon, the series would look something like this.

Jokes aside, basically what all that means is I enjoy filling in the blanks to make the game world feel more full. Like, if possible, I wanna have the series written in a way where you could easily headcanon it as something that's happening in the background of Splatoon 3 as you are playing it.

...At least until we get to the later acts. HE ain't just a slice of life. But let's not get too ahead of ourselves here :)

But as that statement ominously implies, I have a general idea of the overarching plot for all five acts, and the process of writing is basically me ironing out the details and stringing it together into a cohesive narrative. Luckily for me, details are sometimes filled in for me by Nintendo. Speaking of which, let's look at Crableg Capital!

You can kind of already see it just barely peeking from behind the crane on the right, but Hagglefish Market is visible from up here, and they actually added this stage into the background of Hagglefish as well, so you can actually see it from down there, too.

From up here, you can more or less make out the exact route Kaleb came from in Act I, Ch7

I know for certain Crableg wasn't there before; I spent a frankly weird amount of hours doing recon on Hagglefish for Act I. Can't wait for this to become some New Mandela Effect meme or something. Anyways, you can see from up here that there's a lot of green grass in this city that's meant to be in the middle of a desert, so I kinda have this feeling that an ungodly amount of the city's water supply is fed right into keeping that greenery. I can see Kaleb drawing a comparison to Dubai, or maybe even Las Vegas to a lesser extent. Speaking of Vegas, you know what it has? Tons of ads. You know what this stage also has? Tons of ads!

Okay, well, obviously it's nowhere near as bad as Vegas. But I needed a segue, dammit. Now to be fair, I can't read any of these signs, so they might not actually be ads. Like, clearly at least a couple of them are company logos on the bigger skyscrapers. But the concrete building at the end of the clip? I don't know what those signs would be otherwise.

Like, who are they advertising to? The people in the neighboring buildings? The ads face outward, so it couldn't be that. Maybe it's extremely cheap ad space because basically nobody would see it, but then whatever in-universe powers that be decide these stages decided, "yes. of course. the actively under construction highrise. the perfect spot." I'd imagine that ad space probably skyrocketed in value, because there's no way these ink sports aren't televised to at least some capacity in canon.

Speaking of absurd spots for stages...

Shipshape Cargo Co. At first, it looks like you're on some platform underneath an oil rig or something to that nature. Then you realize that you're somehow moving. Then you notice the bow of the ship on the far end of the stage, then it's like, "Oh shit I'm on one of those half-submersible cargo ships!"

So not only did the folks running these ink sports decide that an active construction zone was a good spot for a stage, but they also decided to set up a stage on the back of a presumably en-route freight ship. And it's far enough north for there to be goddamn icebergs floating around. If anything, this season's maps have convinced me that an organization equivalent to OSHA does not fucking exist in the Splatoon universe. I'm aware that culturally, turf wars were at first backstreet sports and very unofficial/disorganized, and also there were stages in Splatoon 1 and 2 that would raise the same concerns (i.e. old Hammerhead Bridge, Saltspray Rig, Piranha Pit, etc.), so I really shouldn't be surprised by all this, but... I dunno, it's almost 4 am at the time of writing.

I don't have much more to say about Shipshape, though. Like, it's a very cool concept for a map, and if for whatever reason I need Kaleb to freeze to death, I'll have it in mind. Crableg is... very helpful, though.

Y'know, isn't it interesting that a lot of stories end with the hero scaling a huge tower?

I don't have much else to say right now, though. I might do a follow-up for Big Run if Um'ami Ruins has a cool enough atmosphere to warrant it; otherwise Undertow Spillway having that alarm blaring during the last Big Run was the coolest shit ever and I can't believe I accidentally predicted it as a stage w/ it being half flooded in Act I.

By the way, I am going to be grinding the shit out of this upcoming Big Run for that gold helicopter figure, so if you wanna play with me, I'm still in the 'Endling' pool. Again, if you spot Lola herself, that's me! Idk just think it’s weird that Q hasn’t spoken out 🤷🏾‍♀️. People getting doxxed and mess (from what I’ve seen/ heard mainly Q’s “fandom” (sorry don’t know the right word to use)) for simply just for being excited for the USMP. Like he can’t just tweet “I don’t condone this” or whatever?

Even about the messaging thing. Haven’t MULTIPLE people tried and contact him with no response (besides Karl)? It is weird that a lot of people tried reaching out and not one response back just saying “I’m ok, just don’t wanna talk” or something.

But me personally (who hasn’t had the time to really look into this) I didn’t see it as “drama” I saw it as “hey this is what has been going on, and I’ve seen what has happened to the people in both communities”

Ok so I'm taking this at face value so if I'm interpreting anything you've said wrongly do feel free to correct me. And I'm sorry if my response seems all over the place I just wanted to reply as soon as possible.

I think in general it is unfair to expect quackity to reply. Is it the most emotionally mature thing to do? No absolutely not. And I'm sure he's aware of it as well. Do I think the whole situation is ridiculous? Yeah. Do I think it was the best move on Q's part? Probably not. Do I get why he did that? Also yes.

Anyway, I think that in a situation like this, where dream has said some pretty passive aggressive things about quackity, both on Twitter and on stream even when they were supposedly still friends, looked down on the things quackity has achieved, like with the streamer awards etc, Q actually does not owe dream a response. Replying to the other people who reached out would mean having to actually acknowledge what is going on and it would end with having to talk with dream as now others will have become deeply involved in this mess. And I genuinely do not think that dream is the kind of person that would actually listen to Q if they actually did sit down and talk but that's another conversation.

Dream also is known for ghosting people (like the way ccs on the dsmp couldn't do lore streams bc dream never replied to them etc) so the way he's reacting to this is just hypocritical to me and the way he has handled it is also very childish. He's basically forcing quackity to reply to him through peer pressure and by relying on his fans bothering Q about it it enough that he'll give up on keeping distance. Which also is not an emotionally mature reaction imo.

You're right the whole situation is a mess, I have even seen some people who claimed to be doxxed being proven false, and while I do feel very bad in case there are people that did actually get doxxed and hope they'll be able to move on from it soon, saying that the majority of the doxxers are Quackity stans is untrue as far as I know. Bc I've also seen lots of dream stans spreading misinfo, claiming everyone is suddenly from lktwt, claiming every person critisizing dream is racist.

Arguments about the usmp/qsmp are mainly rooted in the fact that some people get really vile about it and yes I'll admit some people who dislike dream do go a bit far. But at this point the majority of mcyt twt dislikes dream so it isn't just quackity stans.

I have seen people being straight up racist towards quackity bc of it. And perhaps you could argue I'm biased as someone who deeply dislikes dream but I think there's a lot more hostility coming from the usmp side of the argument.

Either way doxxing obviously isn't ok and I don't condone it and I hope everyone that got doxxers is safe and ok.

However I'd also like to add that the only reason this whole usmp Vs qsmp debate has been going on is bc dream couldn't stop mentioning quackity and the qsmp all the time so I'd say dream also has blame in this and I feel he should tweet something denouncing his stans harassing others instead of putting all the blame on someone else since he's so keen on putting pressure on Q.

Also would like to add that no matter what quackity does at this point, things will not change for the better as the situation has been escalated by dream like a lot.

random BUT i project onto yanqing and one of my hcs is ✨️neurodivergent✨️. unintentionally masks neurodivergent behavior because of his fixation on looking 'mature', he isn't even aware of the hypothetical autism/adhd. he mistakes it as he's being childish and suppresses a lot of typical mannerisms and patterns under that impression

this part is mainly important because one of my whump hcs is that he's hypersensitive to all sensations and being touched when he has a fever. and i've been writing a follow up to the fic i wrote and there's a part where he sorta snaps when jing yuan covers him up because he's overstimulated and miserable and still recovering from the psychological trauma he endured in recent quests, just like— every little thing.

and ofc jing yuan is surprised because this never happens since the little spitfire is usually healthy, and usually doesn't outright yell around him. and he just doesn't leave his weaknesses exposed even to his mentor. i imagine yanqing just doesn't yell that often, he speaks more through his actions since he is a prodigy swordsman. seeing him so agitated and pressed and having such a visceral reaction to something seemingly insignificant really would just catch jing yuan off guard.

i'm sure he is fully aware of a few oddities about yanqing and how he interacts with things, but even so i imagine he is very careful not to overreact in public or around colleagues and around the general. like a self-imposed image of 'normal' and 'mature' in a way?

cue overthinking and feeling like he's failing him as a parental figure because yanqing has no known family, like it is not even really touched on if he's a long-lived species. we can assume he is, but mentioning his lineage is UNKNOWN in bold letters really strikes me as some implication that they can't tell themselves/it is deliberately hidden.

idk but it's jing yuan 'guilty about not knowing much about yanqing' hours. emotional whump for the father figure so he isn't left out 🫠

This may just be me, and it's likely not to happen, but if the hell arc is expanded upon, I kinda wanna see orihime's parents in hell. I have a pretty lose grasp on bleach lore unless it involves ori, but if Irc, human souls can go to hell (like that one hollow in Chad's first arc) if they've done really bad things. Being literal child abusers, I'm assuming they may have ended up there if they had died already. Apart of me wants to see them there so that I know they got what was coming to them, and another part of me just wants orihimes reaction knowing they're in hell. I knows it's not the most important thing in her story, and she may not even Remember her own parents that well either. I'm just genuinely curious and intrigued by how it would play out.

i don't think it's completely impossible given the little we know about hell, but as you said, the chances of it happening on paper are unlikely. orihime's parents mainly seem like convenient plot devices to make sora her most important and primary family member, which i think is consistent with kubo's general tendency to gravitate towards sibling relationships.

i think about the bleach pilot a lot, because a) it gives us major hints about what kubo thought was absolutely essential – essential enough that it survived two drafts, and b) it showed us what he wanted to change, and one of those changes was how orihime's father ended up becoming orihime's brother in the main story. this idea of a brother protecting her from the looming, ambiguous horror of her parents (people she doesn't even remember) forms a major part of their relationship, but i'm not sure how orihime would react to them being in hell. the one-shot implies that it's some sort of horrible fate for the captains (AKA, there is something truly sinister and awful about that place), so i'm not sure orihime would be happy about anyone being there, considering how much she sympathized with the arrancars in hueco mundo. either way, it's unlikely she would even recognize them, but i'm sure she wouldn't harbor any major resentment because she had her brother, and she's since gone on to meet people that truly love her, so i'd say she's mostly moved on from all that.

thematically, i think orihime's parents are used best when they represent the emptiness of her life, the lack of a loving family. i also think, given orihime's experiences with bullying, she might have even internalized their abuse in some implicit way, believing that there is something fundamentally wrong and weak about her (<- which is why she's targeted so often by violent people). a lot of abuse victims blame themselves, and we know orihime used to be extremely self-critical, so i'm more interested in their presence when they're used as lingering "ghosts" within orihime's own deepest and darkest insecurities rather than her ever seeing them again physically
