Figure You Out is such a funny song cause it has strong OTP vibes but it really falls apart in an IRL way cause like... at no point is the singer claiming that the guy offering you the penthouse and the Benz doesn't love you, just that the singer will "love you better". Where's the evidence, bud? It just feels like, to quote an anthem from the 90s, a scrub tryna make a case for himself.
Like, cool, glad you can love me with your eyes closed but maybe a rap concert will widen my musical horizons rather than keep me stagnating on The Rolling Stones.

Smash Mouth - All Star 1999
"All Star" is a song by the American rockband Smash Mouth, released as the first single from their second studio album, Astro Lounge (1999). It was one of the last tracks to be written for Astro Lounge, after the band's record label Interscope requested more songs that could be released as singles. In writing it, guitarist Greg Camp drew musical influence from contemporary music by artists like Sugar Ray and Third Eye Blind, and sought out to create an "anthem" for outcasts. In contrast to the more ska punk style of Smash Mouth's debut album Fush Yu Mang (1997), the song features a more radio-friendly style.
It received generally positive reviews from music critics, who praised its musical progression from Fush Yu Mang as well as its catchy tone. It was nominated for the Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals at the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards. Subsequent reviews from critics have regarded "All Star" favourably, with some ranking it as one of the best songs of 1999. The song charted around the world, ranking in the top 10 of the charts in Australia, Canada, and on the US Billboard Hot 100, while topping the Billboard Adult Top 40 and Mainstream Top 40 charts.
The song's accompanying music video features characters from the 1999 superhero film Mystery Men, which itself prominently featured "All Star". The song became ubiquitous in popular culture following multiple appearances in films, most notably in DreamWorks Animation's 2001 film Shrek. It received renewed popularity in the 2010s as an internet meme and has ranked as one of the most-streamed rock songs from 2017 to 2021 in the US. In June 2019, the music video was remastered in high definition and received subtitles in commemoration of its 20th anniversary. By that point, it had received over 219 million views on Youtube. In 2020, The New York Times listed the song as #1 in their top ten climate change songs.
"All Star" received a total of 90,9% yes votes!

What Would Kerry Eurodyne’s Music Sound Like?
So I saw a post on here a few days ago about someone wanting to hear what an album by Kerry would sound like, and I haven't stopped thinking about this.
I replied at the time with some metal/punk band recs such as Turnstile, The Bronx, Comeback Kid, thinking they matched the emotional intensity I associate with Kerry. But in hindsight, I think those bands are way more Johnny Silverhand-coded than Kerry Eurodyne-coded.
Last year I made a playlist for my End Transmission fanfic full of those bands, because they reflected the anger, loss, and raw emotion V was dealing with. I HC that this is my V's taste in music. (Possibly because of Johnny’s influence on his personality.)
But this morning I was listening to INXS, and it hit me: this feels like Kerry.
Slick, sexy, radio-friendly rock that IS STILL REALLY FUCKIN' GOOD. "Need You Tonight" in particular.
It’s smooth, catchy, seductive, and importantly, it's mainstream. And that’s what Kerry’s solo work would aim for: emotionally resonant rock that still gets played on every radio in Night City.
Artists that I think give me the same vibe:
INXS - Smooth, sexy rock
Prince - Charismatic, sensual
David Bowie - Theatrical, stylish
Queen - Powerful and dynamic, pioneers of rock (I have always thought all the members of Queen were a fucking supergroup!! Plus Freddy Mercury is one of my fave singers of all time.)
Anway, if you have any thoughts or opinions, pls share them!

To play safe, a love song is the best choice, isn't it? This style of song is easy to mainstream, catchy, and people get into it. Plus, love can take many forms. We can just make it different.

Black Alternative Music Recs
Not being Black myself, I hesitate to make myself a spokesperson specifically for Black alt artists as I don’t want to be tokenizing or reductive and I’d rather, like, uplift the voices of Black alt people than just make my own lists, BUT, I keep seeing people in the comments of recent posts about Death Grips asking for recs for more Black alternative artists, and I do know a good amount, so as a really basic list I wanted to throw out a few artists I really like—
Light Asylum: Darkwave. Really incredible vocalist, and openly queer. “Dark Allies” is a huge goth club hit but all of her work is great. I’ve seen her live twice and her live concerts are incredible too. One of the bigger Black goth artists.
Ho99o9: Punk/Industrial Hip Hop. Another big one, they’re pretty well known at this point but if you DON’T know them you should. Huuuge variety in sound here, all of it is so fun and solid, absolutely amazing energy.
clipping.: Industrial/Experimental Hip Hop. Really fun and catchy, great lyrics, great mixing, great experimental electronic sound.
Void Palace: Industrial/EBM. Local LA-based act with an amazing industrial dance club sound and vibe. Seen them live and they bring such cool but crazy energy. Really really solid.
O. Children: Darkwave/Post Punk. Really classic gothic sound, amazing vocals, really underrated, theatrical, fun, and moody gothic rock.
Izzy Spears: Industrial/Experimental Hip Hop. Openly gay alternative hip hop artist with a heavy and super danceable beat. I saw him live and he sounded great and had awesome punky energy.
LUSTSICKPUPPY: Punk/Electro-Industrial. Has almost a hyperpop sound sometimes, super high BPM high energy danceable electronic music with a really crazy theatrical style to their performances (kicking myself for missing them last year!). ETA: LSP uses they/them pronouns, corrected now but apologies for missing that irt any older iterations of this post floating around.
Baby Storme: Darkwave/Ethereal Pop. I think she got a bit of popularity on TikTok recently? I don’t use TikTok so idk, but she’s great. Really well mixed, fun, super solid dreamy darkwave with a dancey pop sound intermixed.
Grizz: Darkwave Hip Hop. I JUST discovered this artist, he’s another LA local who just put out a new single that’s getting some attention and he’s really good. Super cool goth fusion sound with really great classic darkwave electronic backing. Check him out!
Cold Gawd: Shoegaze/Post-Hardcore. Iconically sells merch that says “ABOLISH WHITE SHOEGAZE.” Absolute powerhouse of sound; I saw them live and their music sounded torrential, like this intense, powerful storm.
Debby Friday: Dark Electronic/Experimental Hip Hop. Really really haunting and dreamy gothic sound. Collaborates with artists like Boy Harsher. Superbly mixed. Lots of variety in sound but very consistently strong.
Dre Robinson: Industrial/Experimental Electronic. Longtime cEvin Key/Skinny Puppy collaborator. He was on stage with Skuppy during the recent live tour, doing sound and playing the maggot maracas (iykyk). He’s also been involved in a ton of cEvin’s solo work and accompanies him on stage for his live solo shows.
Charles Levi: Industrial/Industrial Rock. Wax Trax!/90s industrial icon, did work for My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult and Pigface. He’s recently had a bunch of serious health problems and has a GoFundMe up of you’d like to donate. He contributed to so much classic industrial rock, it’s crazy.
There’s a billion more. These are just some artists I genuinely really like personally who are Black, and I think all of them deserve a ton of support and recognition as contributors to the alternative scene. There’s so many amazing Black-fronted alternative bands and projects, and I’m just scratching the surface with artists I know and enjoy, Also considered listing some larger names like Yves Tumor and Tricky, but I feel they’re slightly more well known in the mainstream with ~1mil+ listeners on Spotify and I wanted to highlight some slightly more underground voices (to varying degrees—obviously some artists here are more well known than others).
Check them out!! Support Black alternative music!

I’ve seen several posts (and a lot of reposts of those posts) talking about the misogyny in rap music produced by men, and while I think that having a conversation about misogyny in entertainment is incredibly important, I also think it’s important to think about why we’re focused so heavily on demonizing rap music in particular.
A lot of mainstream music produced by men, regardless of it’s genre, has the same messaging of misogyny, rape culture, sexism, etc. If you read a lot of the lyrics of popular club/dance music especially, it’s hiding in plain sight. However, in a world in which white is the norm, we’re used to hearing that type of messaging disguised underneath the soothing, fun loving, catchy melodies sung by familiar voices so we sing along without thinking about the words leaving our mouths. Rap, while it’s still a very popular genre, goes against that familiar, comfortable habit of hiding lyrics and is very straightforward, and therefore our condemnation increases because it forces you to interact with the lyrics instead of shutting off your brain.
I don’t advocate for a lack of critical thinking or criticism for the genre, in fact I’m asking for the opposite. Is Rap truly the worst genre for misogyny? Because I could, and am, arguing that abusive lyrics hidden in songs that play over the speakers at every establishment (and especially around children) with no issue, is just as bad if not worse. Genres such as Country, which is just as full of misogyny, are treated with a kind of “roll your eyes and get over it” attitude. We treat it as a joke, if we acknowledge it at all. Those silly, backwards folk living in a cornfield town don’t know any better, really.
Socially, we also forgive and forget about male violence much quicker when the man is white. I’ve watched people blow up angrily about a white man’s crime and after 6 months it’s forgotten to the point nobody remembers it when I bring it up. However a black man in that same situation will have his disgrace last years longer. This is not me advocating in any way for everyone to get the white man treatment, but for everyone to have an accurate social reaction to the crime itself without the person’s race tainting how we view him (and by extension, those in his racial group).
Rap, while it has some serious bad apples now, has an incredibly important cultural history of pushing for social change that other popular genres in the world today do not, and it’s ironic to me that it is now seen as the most morally corrupt and oppressive genre. Associating the entire genre solely with low intelligence (both in the artist and the audience), general moral failing and filth, and a backwards view on society when there are so many rappers who have pushed for social changes harder than any other musicians, when you do not similarly condemn other musical genres, is unfortunately a case of internalized racism.
I will reiterate once again that I am not in any way saying that anyone or anything should get off scot-free or without deep criticism. Pointing out an unfair balance in how we condemn groups of people is simply that, pointing it out. I think we need more criticism but I think that criticism needs to be nuanced, complete, and informed. I would also urge you to look into smaller or more underground rappers/rap movements because there is a lot to enjoy and many good people to support when you’re able to get past the big names that do well for a reason. The majority of our culture today is misogynistic so misogynistic lyrics appeal to the general masses, and people who refuse to fall under that group don’t end up as famous as those who do.
[Edited to hopefully make my point easier to understand bc I was getting several reposts that seemed to be taking away a message I didn’t mean to put across]

hello !!! i was just wondering if you think there are any other bands peter would like besides nirvana, pink floyd, and rush ?? he gives me classic rock (& just rock in general) vibes tbh !!
anon you just opened up a can of worms !!
i once did extensive research into this. way more than anyone should for a character way past his relevance. and i'm still discovering new tunes i think he'd be into all the time !! i'll try not make this long winded (it will be). but for now...
🎶👾 peter maximoff's (potential) favorite tunes 👾🎶
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
we already know pink floyd, rush, and nirvana are included. they're shown through the shirts he wears !!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
rush is a major one. because unlike the other two, apocalypse era peter has rush all around him !! the rush posters in his basement. the leg cast with "i luv rush." it's safe to say he's kind of a rush fanboy (and he's so real for that because rush is rad as hell).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i have a list of bands/artists i can confirm he canonically likes, as they've been referenced before. whether it be through background clues (posters, background music, etc), or because they were explicitly mentioned by people involved in making the films.
🎶 yardbirds 🎶 the doors 🎶 led zeppelin 🎶 buffalo springfield 🎶 alice cooper 🎶 jim croce 🎶 neil diamond
and while we know he listens to eurythmics (sweet dreams), i don't necessarily include them as a band. just because i personally feel this has less to do with the artist, and more about whatever was mainstream in 1983 (but you can choose to include them if you want !! after all, people mostly listened to whole albums back then).
peter definitely enjoys rock overall. but he doesn't seem averse to mainstream pop either. so we can probably assume he'll listen to anything, as long as it's catchy !!
Tumblr media
here's some bands/artists we can assume he likes based on what we already know:
🎶 jimi hendrix 🎶 cream 🎶 the beatles 🎶 fleetwood mac 🎶 queen 🎶 david bowie 🎶 tom petty 🎶 ac/dc 🎶 bon jovi 🎶 journey 🎶 guns n roses 🎶 the eagles 🎶 joan jett & the blackhearts 🎶 deff leppard 🎶 tears for fears 🎶 michael jackson
and if there's some other classics i missed (from the 60's/70's/80's) you think he might like - please feel free to drop me an ask !! i'd love to add more to the list !!
Tumblr media
lastly, i'm gonna drop some bands/artists i personally like to think he might listen to. mostly because it's fun to imagine so:
🎶 iggy pop 🎶 bee gees 🎶 thin lizzy 🎶 toto 🎶 a flock of seagulls 🎶 elton john 🎶 u2 🎶 redbone 🎶 madonna (i 100% believe it, you can't convince me otherwise) 🎶 pearl jam 🎶 radiohead 🎶 red hot chili peppers 🎶 green day 🎶 my chemical romance 🎶 beastie boys 🎶 smash mouth 🎶 nickelback (fight me, i dare you)
Tumblr media
if you're looking for any specific songs, there's a really awesome playlist i listen to religiously. chai_vibes's "songs peter maximoff would unironically listen to" is so peak !! and i'll go ahead and drop my own peter maximoff playlist too, just because i worked really hard on it !! lol
happy listening !! thanks for hearin' me out !!

Ok look I know i just sent an ask expressing my appreciation on your Dottore fics but reading the Modern AU fan!Pierro x Singer!reader was such a treat and I want to add some of me thoughts.
I dunno why but it feels oddly comical to imagine Pierro, sb who has a dignified and stoic nature, to be such an avid simp for a singer.
His appearance in fan meetings prob take most ppl off guard or surprise. Cus a distinguished looking gentlemen you would expect in a corporate board meeting is here to meet a pop star??
Im surprised reader doesn’t take notice of Pierro when he attends the meet and greet or their concerts, cus he stands out so much from the normal crowd. Pierro would prob be ecstatic (on the inside lol) that his favorite singer recognises and remembers him out of all the other stans.
Ooh ooooh ok what if another harbinger was also an enjoyer of reader's songs?? Say Pantalone or Columbina or both! And they aren't truly aware that Pierro is also a huge fan cus he's a serious co-worker who doesnt talk much abt anything except work. Yes, they might see him attending performances or fanmeets, but think he simply appreciates reader's talent as a singer. (Boy are they in for a shock of a lifetime when they discover how much of a simp Pierro is for reader)
And thus the situation becomes: Once reader downfall from stardom happens, Pantalone and/or Columbina write to reader to discuss a potential business opportunity. Reader is dropped by their agency but thanks to Pantalone/Columbina's help, get to perform under a different stage name for perhaps a club/theatre/whatever setting that reader is ok to perform in. Places where those two Harbingers may frequent so they can continue enjoying the performances of their favourite artist.
Hmm it would be kinda interesting to see reader jump from a pop star role to other singing related jobs like opera, lounge singer, etc. Esp cus its a completely different vibe? Since pop stars are more for mainstream audiences so its more casual, catchy, trendy, while those other jobs i mentioned are more low-key? I dunno how to explain it so i hope u get what i mean.
Reader would prob be good enough to transition over to such drastically different roles (ngl your description of their voice at their first interaction with Pierro made me thought they would be singing in a choir, or be a club singer.) And its probably more sustainable to them, cus now they dont have to worry abt scandals and the downsides of fame, tedious activities like marketing, interviews, etc. but rather focus on expressing themselves through music. Sure they don’t make as much money as they used to, but its comfortable enough.
And perhaps at some point, there is an occasion where reader sings for a Fatui get together party? With Pierro in attendance and immediately recognises reader? Now he gets to continue pursuing his obsession and pretty much attends any show they are on whenever he has the time available. Maybe even attempt wooing the reader lol. And reader is probably both amazed at his dedication since the start of their career (and a bit flustered cus damn they have this super loyal fan who has continued supporting them despite what happened??)
Somehow this was a bit more fluffy than I thought it was going to be. A more yandere spin would be that the Pantalone and Columbina are as possessive over reader as Pierro is, so while reader is set career-wise, they have to be careful on mediating three very powerful figures.
OR Pierro uses his authority and seniority to put the other two in place, and monopolises reader. Or strike a deal with them to share reader but because he still outranks them, he gets to hoard most of reader's time and attention. All this while reader doesn’t fully know but is suspicious on how tense these three Harbinger's are when they interact.
Pardon this super long ask lol. Im somehow got the plot bunnies when reading ur stuff hehe
Read Aoede here <3
Waaaaaaa thank you so much for sending this, dear!! I already love long asks, and these ideas you shared?!! I am eating them up (๑ᵔ⤙ᵔ๑)
Tw:: yandere, toxic stan culture
Before I respond to your ideas, I just want to clarify a few things!! At the time of Singer! Darling’s career, Pierro was still an ordinary civilian. He only joined the Fatui after their downfall; so aside from his serious demeanor, he was indistinguishable from their other fans. Imagine a younger Pierro wearing/ holding fan merch xD
With that being said, Singer did recognize Pierro during fan meetings. He was, after all, one of their oldest fans and a listener of their final street concert!! For the sake of professional boundaries, however, they had to be very careful in acknowledging him.
Moving on, I find your AU very interesting!! I’m not into love triangles, but I do like the idea of Columbina and Pantalone’s involvement. Cue the two of them having a wtf moment when they recognize their leader in old photos of Savior’s concerts, followed by laughter and blackmail >:3
Your idea for Singer’s new career is *chef kiss* The Fatui’s lounge club is smaller, quieter than their concert stadiums. Under their new stage name, they are reduced to background music from the perspective of the clients. But honestly, they prefer this environment. Sure, there are times when they miss performing their own songs before a big crowd, but it’s nothing compared to the comfort and privacy provided by their new superiors.
It does nothing to help their relationship with Pierro, however.
In this AU, Pierro lacks the privilege of time and memory. Assuming it has only been a few years between Singer’s downfall and their reunion with Pierro, they’d quickly recognize his young appearance despite his new corporate wardrobe. As such, in Singer’s eyes, Pierro is just an obsessive fan who can easily take advantage of their new power imbalance.
Needless to say, this AU would be a bigger nightmare for Pierro’s darling. And he’ll make sure that they can’t ask the Damselette and the Regrator for another do-over.
