So the moment y'all have been waiting for.

I got massive vampire vibes when I saw his teaser on IG, and while I am mildly disappointed that isn't the case, supernatural Yakuza isn't exactly bad either. Huge and has a bite meaner than his bark for sure, which I respect; would shoot someone point blank without letting them finish a dramatic ahh dialogue. Also has this weird duality of "I'm going to fuck you up" and "I dropped my monster condom that I use for my magnum dong." You know what? I can deal, he seems like a whole hoot and a half.

Also you know that French man who lost points in pole vaulting because his dick hit the bar? ... That's Sylus, I'm just gonna say that rn. (Seriously, this man's dick means he qualifies as a monster, thus Sylus fuckers are monsterfuckers. I don't make the rules.)

But. Let's see what I can dig out for ya~

So, first and foremost, this is by and large a Soulmate AU as well as a Mermaid AU.

When a Merclone reaches the age of Majority their learn their soul song, a song that is unique to themselves. No two mer have the same song, though identical twins can have very similar songs. The song is incomplete, though. It's only completed when their soul mate hears them and is able to complete the binding.

The Binding is a year long, or longer depending on the mer, ritual that allows their human mate to become a mer. The song and the Resonance is only the very first part.

A mate is almost always colored to match their partner, female soulmates tend to have darker scales (you know, like how in birds the females are darker?)

Falling in love with their soulmate is immediate for the merclone. That's their person and they love their person.

The Deep Magic is basically the Force. It exists solely to protect the merpeople, and first appeared after an event that nearly decimated the entirety of the mer population. The Merjedi are the masters of the Deep Magic, and they live in a separate area of the ocean than the Mermandalorians.

Boba Fett is the current MerMand'alor, because none of his brothers wanted the position.

There are four "types" (for lack of a better word) of soulmates for the Merpeople.

Normal Mates - This is the most common type of soulmate. They're calmer, and tend to be the most confused about the whole situation and get flustered easily. These are the people who most often stopped believing in mermaids and magic when they were children, and need to adjust their way of thinking.

Eager Mates - These people are the ones who never let go of their belief in magic and whimsy. They're both excited and eager to become a mermaid, and don't need nearly as much instruction or explanation as the first group.

Unhinged Mates (Safe) - Dogma's Soulmate. She's the only one who falls into this category. Dogma loves her and she makes him happy, but no one else wants to deal with her brand of crazy. That said, she's only a danger to herself, and not the people around her.

Unhinged Mates (Dangerous) - These people view having a merman as a mate as a status symbol, and aren't above harming another person who might have been chosen by a merman. These people are the ones who might turn to forbidden magic to try and break a bond between a mer and their mate. They're rarely successful.

I'm sure there's more, but I don't know what all you might want to know, lol.

Her favorite holidays are probably winter holidays because there's less work! As for favorite mythological creatures (can...there be mythological creatures in DB?..) are jackalopes. She considers the people of Conton to be the most important to her, but mostly her dad.

DAKKORI

Dakkori doesn't really care for the holidays themselves but enjoys any holiday involving food. She finds dragons - specifically the ones on Gaspa - to be the most interesting. Dakkori's cares most about the function of the universe (the people are mostly set dressing. She enjoys certain ones, but if they, yknow, got erased for one reason for another...thats just how it is.)

SPENCER

Similar to Dakkori, if it involves food he's happy! He doesn't really care about mythological creatures, but he once pretended to be a merman! What he considers most important is his relationships. He never admits it, but he knows he's unlucky and sometimes avoids interacting because "what's the point?" He gets it - he breaks things, he messes things up, some people think he's creepy because of his abilities. But when he is included it makes him genuinely happy.

KALI

She LOVES Valentines Day since she always does something to provoke Saami. Her favorite creature are witches and sages. The most important thing to her is her family

AMPA

Her favorite holiday is Halloween since, while she's on Earth, she doesn't need to be disguised when going to visit her friends. Her favorite creatures are fairies. The most important thing to her is her family and friends

Oh no I’ve inspired a knew story from you. How tragic 😔. Mermaid Boba!

Water, dark and frigid, crashes over his head, dragging him under. It stuns Din, for a moment, limbs locking up as he’s pulled away from the small hunk of wrecked ship that Grogu is clinging to. Their boat is gone, shattered and sinking as the storm rages around them, and that one piece of debris is the only thing protecting his ad from the depth of the sea.

The Razor Crest had served him well, over the years, and even destroyed it still does so, keeping his son afloat and away from the invading iciness of the ocean.

There’s movement, there and gone, deep below him, a faint shimmer of red light - which is an odd colour, but pretty, Din notes almost hypnotically, like rubies in the sunlight - and Din wonders if it’s just an illusion made by his oxygen-depraved mind. The movement, and realization of the burning in his lungs stirs him to start fighting again, to kick against the hold the ocean has on him.

Grogu. He has to get back to Grogu.

Din kicks, he struggles, lungs aching in his chest as he tries desperately to move towards the surface he can’t see, but the sea doesn’t want to let him go. The dark water around him tugs and twists, it holds fast, pulling at his limbs and clothes. It clings to him, dragging him down, and Din’s lungs burn, his mind growing foggy.

He needs to breathe, he needs air, but he knows that the moment his mouth opens, water will rush into his chest and he’ll drown.

Something flashes beneath him, and Din startles, jerks, when something big darts past him, barely visible in the inky, impenetrable darkness surrounding him. He can feel it shifting the water, cutting through the tides, the force of it buffering against him. He wonders what kind of creature could be swimming in this storm, wonders if he’s actually seeing something or if it’s just his mind playing tricks on him in the void of nothingness around him.

He’s sinking - or is he being pulled under? It feels like there’s hands gripping him, pulling him to and fro in the unending darkness of the ocean.

He has to get back to his son; but the world had never cared about his desires.

The sea doesn’t care about what it’s victims are, who it is that its dragging under. There’s no enemy to fight, no way to shoot his way out of this; this isn’t a human foe, and all of Din’s skills are useless. He’s going to die. His body is just going to be another claimed by the ocean. Lost forever. Just another faceless victim people will wonder about if he washes up on shore.

Din will be forgotten, his stories never told - will anyone even notice when he’s gone? Will Grogu manage to stay above the waves?

There’s a glow in the water, and for a moment, Din’s foggy mind thinks it’s seeing another person staring back at him, scarred face lit with crimson light, with eyes as deep and bottomless as the ocean itself. He imagines hands cradling his face, sharp nails digging into his skin, and Din wonders why his dying mind is showing him this vision.

He’d rather see his parents, or Grogu.

As everything around him goes gray, as his lips part against his will in a dying, desperate gasp for oxygen that will never come, the former pirate feels the phantom sensation of a weight pressing against his mouth. It feels like a kiss, tastes of salt and fish, and Din’s last thought before fading away is that he has no idea what the fuck is going on.

He fades away, mind washed away with the tide, and air is forced into his lungs.

Completed Lgbtq+ Webtoons to Binge (Originals edition)

Most of these are already pretty popular, and some of them are primarily available irl, but honestly you could just take this as an opportunity to reread some of your favorites.

Muted - A fantasy story with a really distinct art style that handles themes of parental abuse, generational trauma, and found family extremely well. The main character finds out that she is descended from two powerful witch clans and summons a wholesome plant demon, while dealing with her own mental health problems and rapidly expanding family. Primarily wlw rep, with a canon polyamorous ending! The author is also currently creating another comic, LoveBot, with their partner.

Always Human - A slice-of-life wlw romance in a gorgeous sci-fi setting. The hook is that most characters in this world can mod their appearance and health, but one of our main girls is allergic to them. This one is just really cute, and extremely diverse, with agender, aroace, gay and poly side characters. There's a physical copy shorter than the full webtoon that I highly recommend if you want to introduce any of these groups to kids in an age-appropriate way!

Cape of Spirits - A fantasy webtoon, based on a fictional video game from another of the author's comics. Extremely engaging and satisfying story, and has a lot of cool action scenes! There's also a surprising amount og rep - a nb robot (which I know can be a :/ trope, but indvidual robots are unique and there is another robot who uses she/her), a wlw couple, and a catradora-esque mlm main couple.

Castle Swimmer (s. 1) - This comic is ongoing (and incredibly popular), but the first season can also stand on its own. It's a love story between a merman who's supposed to fulfill prophecies for different kingdoms and the prince who's supposed to kill him. Thankfully it doesn't fall into the tropes of having the main couple constantly bicker or threaten each other, they talk a lot about finding a balance between living your life for yourself and others. Love this one so much, and it's very diverse and kid-friendly (some blood and heavy ideas, maybe like 4th-5th grade level)! There is a transfem main character in the first season, aroace and bi main characters in the second season, overall just has gorgeous art and creative concepts and wholesome relationships.

Hooky - adorable fantasy webtoon about a family of witches and their friends (~at first~). The main characters are a pair of twins, one of whom is fated to become 'king of the witches' and overturn the humans oppressing them, but in between the tense moments there is a lot of heart and loveable characters. The mlm characters don't really join the cast until roughly halfway through, but it's still well worth reading. It's also being released as physical books & mostly child appropriate.

Kind of Love (1 & 2) - Collections of short stories by different authors. Not all of them are lgbtq+, but the ones that are hit - there's a lesbian mourning the loss of her wife and adopting a cat, a transbian who's working to come out to her family and yt audience, a mlm story about a ghostbuster, and a boba shop worker who falls for an agender ghost. All of the stories in this collection are really good and worth checking out :DD

The Fever King - This is actually an adaptation of a published novel, which is pretty cool. It's mostly set in a military academy run by a corrupt government, and the main character is one of the only survivors of a plague that decimated his family. It has aspects of both fantasy and sci-fi, and is pretty graphic for a webtoon - major tws for sexual and emotional abuse. The main character and his love interest are mlm, but *spoilers* they don't have a happy ending, so I would recommend reading it only if you're into the plot and/or have access to the sequels.

Phantom Paradise - Gorgeous art, fantasy webtoon about a boy who serves as a concubine to the empress of hell to save his boyfriend. This one is a bit heavier than The Fever King, it has heavy depictions of abuse and the main character is a WW2 veteran. I actually learned a bit about Chinese history and culture from this, albiet highly fictionalized. The ending isn't the happiest, but if you like a lot of fantasy fights and dramatic flashbacks you'll probably like this.

Unfortunately, a lot of these are just wlw or mlm romance, because a lot of the webtoons with trans rep I'm reading are ongoing (and there generally aren't enough tqia+ webtoons). If you have any favorites that I missed, please recommend them!
