I love how ominous such basic names like "The Organization" or "The Institute" or "The Initiative" or "The Facility" or etc. are when placed in like a shady sci-fi context, like there's no reason for them to sound that suspicious, but without elaboration, it's like here is a place where they are doing things™ and I am like ooohh, because the blank state, the refusal to give you any more detail makes you think they're hiding something on purpose and leaves the darkest corner of the imagination left to fill in the rest.

Just imagining a whumper with an (in)human weapon whumpee. Maybe the Whumpee was born in a time of war, and the whumper was tasked with helping Whumpee harness their powers for ‘good’.

The Whumpee is maladjusted and uneducated (unless you count military propaganda as ‘education’). The Whumpee is provided for… but is deeply unhappy. They need somebody to ‘understand’ and help them learn who they are. To be taught their purpose in this time of need. A vulnerable, fragile individual.

Maybe the Whumper has lost a lot in this war. Maybe they’ve retired from active duty, and brought into this experiment because of their expertise and hands-on experience with the enemy. Maybe they’re kinder to Whumpee as a result. Just a lost little creature, in a world of much bigger fish. Who can’t relate to that? (carewhumper vibes?)

Or maybe the Whumper is a higher up, with a much bigger vision than the Whumpee could ever imagine. Somebody with uncompromising expectations. Who will see what makes this weapon tick, and how to crush the enemy with them. This ball of nerves and untapped potential brought before them, like a lamb to the slaughter, and what an important slaughter it will be.

the situation in palestine has been ongoing for nearly a century, the death toll is astronomical & the level of violence is unprecedented even when compared to the most violent of wars. the number of kids & women killed is unprecedented. but ok… it must be antisemitism i guess

Under the OST, no nation can claim sovereignty over territory in space. However, they can set up a research station where their sovereign law applies, and they could set up that station on the best lunar/Martian real estate, and they could restrict people's access to that station, and they can house military personnel there "for scientific research or for any other peaceful purposes". Surely there's no way this can be exploited.

is Final Fantasy 8 still as maligned in the fandom as it was years ago? god, I hope not. I treated myself to the remastered version on the Switch earlier this week as a birthday gift for me (you are encouraged to read that in Kuzco's voice), and I've been having so much fun delving into it again. the Junction system is really really fun to play with, you can basically pick your own challenge level by deciding how much to level your characters (because enemies scale with you), Triple Triad SLAPS, so does the soundtrack, and the setting is soooooo cool??? I love the more modern and bright and colorful locations melded with magic, it's awesome to have monsters and magic spells while also traveling by train and car and people are using the internet and stuff. the cast is also really underrated, too, IMO. which is a post in itself.

it's just. genuinely really really good, IMO, and I hope it's getting more love nowadays. it's in my top three for sure, along with IX and VI.
