a passage i think about all the time. the ray of sunlight in the wound is also mentioned in dante's inferno in canto XXXII, where mordred is in the 9th circle of hell. he's submerged in a frozen lake in caina, for treachery towards kin.

I do think that people's opinions on the ethics of the gods as mortals plan vs. the gods behind the Divine Gate depends a lot on whether the focus on the gods' actions are prevention or punishment.

(I'm saying this while realizing that leaving the gods behind the divine gate and letting them sort it out amongst each other was impossible after BH let Predathos out)

What happened in Aeor specifically and the Calamity in general was horrible. And if you think the gods should pay for what they did, taking away their power or driving them out makes sense - it's punishment. But it does nothing to prevent future Calamities from happening, and in truth, letting Asmodeus out as a level 20 'mortal' who can come out of mortality at any time once Predathos is gone seems like it's going to cause more humanoid death. Not to mention power vacuums, Vecna, the gods getting Typhros, and other possible issues...

If you're thinking about it from a punishment perspective, it seems unjust that the prime deities got to choose their own consequences by going behind the Divine Gate. But the thing is - it was extremely effective from a prevention perspective! People still did things in the gods' names, but people are going to be horrible anyway. The gods didn't step on any ants for 800 years. Keeping Predathos sealed worked for literal ages longer (I've been envisioning it as 50-100k years but we don't know how long the earlier ages lasted)

So, is the focus more on keeping future people from being harmed, or is it on making sure that the gods pay for what they did?

The Bad Kids throw a Halloween party and everyone is confused as to why Adaine is not only dressed as a princess, but has a big freaking chain dangling from one of her wrists. She just says "it's from a game" and offers zero explanation.

Then Oisin shows up and he's wearing a jumpsuit entirely made out of black feathers, holding a knife, and with an expression on his face that suggests that this was entirely Adaine's idea

it’ll entail mortal Kayne adjusting to life with musician Arthur and a six year old Faroe

issues: I can’t draw well? And I only draw traditionally. Technology is the bane of my existence, and I contain the most basic editing/animation knowledge. Also time- it will take a long time especially with work and school and my other projects

Let me break down every table:

➥Table number 1:

-The intelligent, popular, rich kids table

-They would allow me to sit with them but they would silently give off vibes they don't want me to sit there.

-They would compare Outworld's and Earthrealm's current economy and I would be out there like "Did you know the Egyptians believed the most significant thing you could do in your life was die?" and they would just look at me once and ignore me completely. And then I would just sit there all embarrassed and uncomfortable.

➥Table number 2:

-Basic, normal, kinda boring table

-We would talk about ourselves just so it wouldn't be awkward.

-Gives off "We got paired to do a group project during our class and now we need to interact with each other."

-At some point we would run out of things to say so Jax would tell us Jacqui's embarrassing childhood stories and she would get angry and embarrassed.

➥Table number 3:

-Extroverted, confident, loud vibes

-Johnny would definitely not be able to sit still and talk about different random things while Sonya would get annoyed but also interact with everyone a lot. Johnny and Cassie would talk non stop to me and Frost would just interrupt the topics and talk about how she disagrees.

➥Table number 4:

-Very chill, friendly vibes

-Liu Kang and Geras are extremely disciplined while Raiden and Kung Lao are just very laid back so the convos would just flow nicely.

-Everyone is warm, friendly and open to conversation, I would fit right in into that group.

-Liu would offer everyone some tea while Raiden and Kung Lao would mumble about weird stuff to me.

➥Table number 5:

-Pride, savage, tense vibes

-They all would give each other a death stare in silence until someone decides to speak about what they hate/ their accomplishments. And they all would just join in and hate on each others opinions/ boast about themselves.

-I would be there like "Okay, I will just stay quiet to avoid any kind of confrontation with these guys."

➥Table number 6:

-Everyone has completely different vibes but we would somehow maintain the conversation pretty nicely.

-We all would talk mostly about Outworld and its royal family/ Earthrealm/ Netherrealm. Smoke would get excited while listening to different stories and ask random questions about them out of genuine curiosity.

➥Table number 7:

-Scary, emo weirdos table

-I wish I could sit at one table /w Shang Tsung but I wouldn't be comfortable sitting next to Quan Chi and general Shao. I feel that I am completely out of everyone's league and I would be kinda scared.

-Shang, Shao and Quan Chi would conspire and scheme about different things and Sindel would laugh at their "pathetic" ideas.

➥Table number 8:

-We would have a deep, serious conversations about dating, toxic people, and spirituality. -Everyone would be very engaged in presenting their opinions and listen very intensely to what each person has to say. It reminds me of those YouTube podcasts.

my canon end for emm//rich is mortality.

i do wish the game would've explore the choices more and the possible downsides to lichdom because, as it stands, they don't present any negatives.

1) though they touch upon this if you choose lichdom, they should've presented this issue beforehand: outliving you. worse: outliving everyone. emm//rich clearly has a deep capacity to love and to care. has he considered an eternity of losing everyone? will he force himself to never get close again in order to avoid mourning? 2) self-identity. you gain immorality, but you lose your body and your face. will you still see yourself as "you"? 3) will he still retain his humanity a hundred years down the line? two hundred? a thousand? how do you hold on to that humanity when you yourself gave it away, are largely secluded from the human population, and possibly bar yourself from further human relationships?

i dislike how the game presents it as "you can't have lichdom by reviving man//fred, because it implies you won't be able to handle the loss of others", and while that does make sense, it falls apart because choosing lichdom means being afraid of his own mortality. is being afraid of others dying unacceptable, but being afraid of dying yourself, and running away, okay?

i'm of the opinion that foregoing lichdom is a sign of growth for emm//rich. he never loses his fear, but he's grown enough to live with it, and choosing lichdom to me feels too easy in that you're encouraging him to run away. choosing lichdom can be interesting in that he obtained what he thought he always wanted only to learn that it isn't what he wants, especially when he sees everyone else aging or dying around him, but i like to think of that more as speculation and an interesting think piece than my canon ending.

i cannot fucking overstate how much i love fcg’s reasoning for helping the gods btw. they don’t want to save them because they believe in them, though they do—they want to save them because, deep down, the purpose they’ve always had, always wanted to have, is to help. he wants to save the gods because they’ve asked for his help, and in turn, he believes that they’ll be able to help more people across exandria. he believes that if he helps, the gods will pay that favor back and help others too. and i just. dear god i love that. fcg recklessly and relentlessly chooses kindness and seems to have come back even more determined to do so after their detour in wildemount and i absolutely cannot wait to see it
