#Doodles#SCII#The Captain#ZEX#DAX#It's very important! They gotta look like proper maritime pirates/naval officers! I need the cute little ribbons!#I'm chalking this one up to Muppet Treasure Island as well - Beaker's cute little ponytail got me bad you're welcome lol#Originally the Captain's was just on his own but then the others filed in politely lol#I never can decide on a human!ZEX look - especially since I want him to have long hair as a pirate!#Something something masculinity expressed through hair lengths - short military crop cut as well as long but tied up#Or not tied up 👀 It's all such a good look on him! But there must be an overall winner in there somewhere!#Also doesn't help that I can't decide on or pin down his facial structure or body type lol#I mean yes curvy obviously <3 But do I give him a strong jawline? It goes so well with his short-cropped hair but does it with long hair??#I also think that any hairstyle can suit any face it's just jdkfslafd hard to draw in a way I can recreate and am happy with!#I'll get him yet! He won't escape me! He's too pretty to let go of! (Lol)#He's also harder to decorate with human ears haha ♪ He needs more hair accessories! More than just a ribbon!#I usually imagine him with finer hair so maybe one of those like ponytail accessories? What are they called uhhh#A ponytail wrap! That thing! Yes! :D He'd look great with a ponytail wrap! And it'd keep his hair out of the way! Lovely <3#DAX also had to make an appearance obviously ♪ Love him too much to leave him out of the festivities I'm sure he's very happy lol#He did predominately get the eyepatch tho good for him - all sorts of accessories and useful human inventions!#Gets it gifted from ZEX like ''Oh ♥'' and then ZEX is like ''Isn't it great my Captain gave it to me but I like having both eyes free :D''#Poor DAX haha ♪#I'll give him a handsomer bow another time I'm sure he'd look great in something darker and more loose and flowy <3

== Love Notes ==
Alright lovelies. We've run out of Rhys videos for a few days so you're back to me being irritatingly loving at you! I saw this today on The Latest Kate's instagram and it reminded me of a few things I wanted to say. My brain is a bit covid-fogged so apologies if it's a bit wibbly wobbly.
We all struggle with so many little and big things in our lives. Whether it's mental health, self esteem, a physical ailment, love, lonliness, self-identity, family, friends, world conflicts, or anything, I could go on and on.
I know sometimes it feels like you are pushing so hard and you start making so much progress-- and then something, big or little stalls everything and you feel like you're having to start from scratch again.
I just want to send you a gentle reminder that progress isn't always linear. Just because you have lost momentum doesn't mean you've lost your progress. Every single situation is a learning opportunity and every time you run into a new hurdle, you learn from the last one.
You are wonderfully intelligent, kind, precious, complex people and no matter what you're dealing with, no matter how small or how big, you are moving forward and making headway bits at a time. Remember to be kind to yourself and don't beat yourself up for bad days.
We are so proud of you lovelies, remember that.

Love and Fuff
BitterSweet Trio
(they’re all dating your honor)
The seasons were changing which means Alphonse changes out all of the plushy‘s on the bed in exchange for the seasonal ones. And this time he recruited his Boo!
So there they sat on the Bed they shared, sifting through varieties of different soft plush toys, while binging episodes of the Mandalorian. Lost in thought that is until Al sees a very familiar plush that caught his attention.
“Holy shit haven’t seen this lil guy in a long fucking time” Sugarboo plops on the bed “Haven’t seen what?-OOoOoO cute bear!” Alphonse held the bear up to get the full view of it “HEY SETH! BABE GET IN HERE AND COME SEE THIS!”
It wasn’t too long before he heard Seth walking down the hallway to the bedroom “Alphonse I swear if your tryin’ to get me to kill another spider I ain’t doing it” he walks into the bedroom and sees the what Alphonse is holding “holy shit”
Sitting inAlphonse’s hands was a very familiar plush bear. The bottom of the belly as well as its legs and paws we’re light pink with a small shine, the top half looks like it was dipped in chocolate and covered in sprinkles, with two cotton candy blue buttons for the eyes. “remember this little guy?”
Seth smiled and sat next to Al on the Bed “of course I do” Sugarboo cocked their head. Seth took the bear in his hands and smiled
“When Al first came to the city with me he couldn’t sleep straight. It took nearly a week for him to tell me why” “guess I was too embarrassed to admit it was cause-” “You missed your plushies at home” Alphonse smiled and rubbed the back of his neck “so Seth snuck away to the cities mall when he had some free time and picked up this sweet thing and gave it to me as a little present” alphonse leaned up and kissed Seth on the cheek, causing the southern boys face to flush pink.
Sugarboo looked at the tag that was on the Bears foot “goody Bears! I used to collect these when I was little. there part of the reason why I love baking so much” Seth looks around the room at the piles and bins of plushy‘s “what were you guys doing that required all of these?” alphonse sets the bear on his lap before grabbing a handful of beanie babies and throwing them at Seth “seasonal plushy rotation!” Seth almost successfully catches them “why do you have so many of these?” Alphonse face saddens before turning into a soft smile “well…you know…my Ma used to collect um’…she always had a dozen for each season and she’d put them on the mantle along with the other decorations” seth looks down at the small pile of beanie babies in his lap and looks back up at Alphonse “well then. hand me the bag I’ll start going through um’ you just tell me which ones to put aside”
They rearranged their seating positions, Seth on the left, Alphonse on the right, Sugarboo in the middle.
“Do you wanna put on a movie? I don’t think Seth has seen the Mandalorian yet and I don’t wanna spoil it for him” “Yea. Seth you can pick. Me and Boo are good with pretty much anything” they both look at Seth expectantly. He stares for a moment before scrambling for an answer. “um..well shit let me think here…. now don’t pick on me for this but..Ya got any of the Muppet movies on these fancy ass streaming services you’ve got?” the corners of Sugarboo‘s mouth start to curl and Alphonse snags the remote off the nightstand “Hell Yeah we’re watching Muppets! Got a specific one ya want Babe?” “yeah um.. they got Muppet treasure Island?” With just a few presses of a button Seth’s movie wishes were granted.
As the movie played on, the three got more comfortable, nearly abandoning the job that they started.
Seth’s head laid on Al’s shoulder his eyes growing heavy, Alphonse’s arm was around him gently brushing his fingers through his hair which wasn’t helping him stay awake, the other arm had the little sugarcoated bear from earlier tucked close to his side, Sugarboo was cozied up on top of them nestled under the blanket with a small mountain of plushy‘s weighing on their feet.
As the movie played, and his two partners struggled to stay awake, Alphonse was basking in it
He looks down at Seth‘s face. The face he has seen bloodied and bruised angry and sorrowful now completely peaceful. Then he looks at his Boo. a face he has seen nearly every day for five years a face he could never imagine going a day without.
And they are both here.
Two of his favorite people in this world, cuddled up in bed watching a movie they’ve all seen 1 million times.
And it’s happy, and it’s warm and it’s peaceful, and God dammit a deadly asteroid could be hurling towards earth at top speed right now, and he wouldn’t give a fuck. because this is where he wants to be
Slowly, drifting off to sleep in a pile of love and fluff.
————————————————————————
Why does it feel like it’s been forever since I’ve written something for YV.
It got really cheesy at the end and I do apologize for that. this draft has been sitting here for a while so I figured I’d polish it up
Hope you enjoyed

Pirate Month III: Raw Toonage Hosted by Don Karnage (Comission by WeirdKev27)
Tumblr media
Ahoy me harties and welcome aboard to pirate month! For those new to the tradition each year kev has me look at a bunch of piratey media, yarrgh barrrghh. IN the past we've looked at mainstays like our flag means death, muppet treasure island and pirates in an adventure with scientests both in book form and it's stellar film.
This year's a bit more ecletic as in addition to more pirates we have some garfield, a real life treasure hunt involving muppets, the wiggles and some donald duck for ya'll. And to start we've got the strangest one of all
Tumblr media
Nah we'll do that next year. No this year we've got an episode of Raw Toonage.
Tumblr media
Raw Toonage is an obscure Disney show cobbled together out of spare parts. That's not an exageration either: See early in it's production Bonkers was running long. For those like me who aren't exactly familiar wtih the show beyond "I'ts about animated actors and a cat and he got beaten up by all darkwing ducks mortal enemies that one time", Bonkers was set in toontown ala roger rabbit, taking the same basic premise of toons as actors, and doing it's own thing. The title character's show got canceled shortly before the show and he became a cop to start the show. With Bonkers taking a while due to rewrites and what not, they decided to make some of the actual bonkers shorts. Around the same time Micheal Eisner got the rights to belgan comic Marsupilami, a weird creature with a tail who started in the comic Spirou and Fantasio before his creator, owning the rights, spun the character off on his own. Disney would later loose the rights hence why this series and Marsuplini's spinoff aren't on disney+.. though you'd be forgiven for thinking the reason was because it's friday I guess given House of Mouse and the Weekenders remain not on the service.
Tumblr media
Hence raw toonage, which aired the two shows along with Totally Tasteless Video, random weird pop culture segments designed to pad out the run time.
To make this frankenstiens monster weirder, and the reason we're here, each episode was hosted by a diffrent disney character. Scrooge got an episode, Webby got to be in the opening credits for reasons, Ludvig Von Drake got one, Sebastian from the little mermaid got one for some reason, and naturally the fiercest pirate to ever fly the skies till he popped out a kid to take up the mantle, Don Karnage lead one.
So come with me as Don Karnage teaches us to pirate, Bonkers tears my soul out, we learn what the spud channel is, and Marspulni plays some hockey while I try to squeeze in a shorsey or letterkenny refrence. Possibly both.
Let's begin. Don Karnage opens the episode advising the audience and being told via mail he's going to to host the segment. He prostests gets another letter on with the show. More on him later
For our first Segement Bonkers plays sherluck bonkers and I pray for death but death won't come. This segment.. is horrible> It took me a few sittings over several days to finish it. It's that bad. It's a never ending horrific loop of "GET IT HE'S A DETECTIVE WHO CAN'T DETECT NO GOOD" for 11 minutes. I.. can't overstate my hatred of this forgotten segment of a forgotten disney show that I wish I forget. It is NOTHING but Jim Cummings doing a doofy mildly annoying voice and schitck that was old when Mickey was just a cow traumatizing glimmer in a young walt disney's eye.
I can't even riff on it: it's just the same thing for 11 minutes. At least when Kevin scarred me for life wtih An American Carol last month I could baffle at how out of touch it was. This is just.. nothing. It's not worse mind you, but at least Fraiser Crane mowing down the aclu who are zombies for some reason is a level of baffling horror you just don't get every day. This is nothing. Just 11 minutes of my life I could've spent playing more persona 5, or reading more golden age batman as he works to kidnap the joker from the hopstial to change his brain
Tumblr media
Or deals with a man who is ugly thanks to fraternity hazing
Tumblr media
Or batman's never ending war with slot machines
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm saying I had better uses of my time but I also needed the money.
Don Karnage's next segment kinda happens. Fun Fact: he's only in about three or four minutes of this episode and they really don't use him to his best. This is a waste of your jim Cummings. granted so was the last 11 minutes so maybe I was still just a wee bit numb.
Thankfully the Tottally Tasteless Video segments better. A couple does some channel surfing with weird channels like watching candle wax before settling on the potato channel and we get two or three glorious minutes of various pottato programming, mostly potato starskey and hutch. Which is something I didn't know I needed. I'm sad this wasn't brought back in the 2000's, I needed potato degrassi. "When in doubt you kiss potato craig?" did you erase potato clair from your memory? Does Jenna still tell potato KC to play basketball? I gotta know. But it's genuinely charming fun nonsense.
Our final full segment is Marsupilami. His segment is just some fun Looney Tunes style nonsense. It's not on warners level, but it's still some fun as some obnoxious guy played by jim cummings freezes over the lake. I expected our weird friend to do a bugs bunny but instead he's more oblivous, not getting this guy needs to give his balls a tug. It's just some fun slapstick as maras oblivously gets dunked on only to oblivously turns the table. Ther'es just a nice zen charm to the guy, reminds me of goofy. A simple segment but it works.
The final one has Don Karnage finally find some treasure...
Tumblr media
Yes folks as advertised up top Captain Hook himself cameos out of fucking nowhere to rescue this wraparound. Seriously though, most of this wrapround is eh. Karnage CAN be better but Jim Cummings has nothing to work with. Finding out disney's two best pirates, go jerk off in a lake jack, not only know each other but have a weird rivalry and history we know nothing about... it's amazing. Truly spellnbinding. The way Hook taunts him about being a sky pirate, the way Karnage claps back about sky pirates making him obsolute, the suddne esclation to a goddman swordfight that's all too short and hook ending up winning as he should and heading off with smee and the treasure.. it's all so good. It's two minutes too little. It's the greatest weird disney crossover since this
Tumblr media
I still need context.. like who tops. Same with Karnage and Hook. Why are they like this? Will they fight again? What do baloo and peter think of each other? have they teamed up. I woudl've preferred just a full on tailspin peter pan crossover with peter pan and hook also as furrys over this, but i'll take what I get
So yeah this episode ends great, has some potato fun.. but that's.. all you really need to watch> Marsu is fine, but i've seen better and Bonkers is like living in a living nightmare. It's a neat curosity .. but it really dosen't use Don Karnage well. Like Bonkers it's just the one joke of "GE TIT HE'S BAD AT FINDING TREASURE" We deserved him and hook fighting the whole time, and maybe having some hardcore sex to top it off and releive the tension. Does anyone actually WANT that... I dunno. I'm just curious how Hoook is in the sack. Smee won't return my calls. I'm betting he's really weird and his penis is also wooden and he knows how to use it. I"m not even attracted to him I just want to know how that works. And on that horrifyin thought thanks for reading.

I haven't slept (shocker I know, the insomniac hasn't slept? madness) so yall are getting a ramble of my sort of queer sort of trans awakening (or the closest to it that little me had before understanding those terms) and surprise, it's not Mulan.
So. Little me. They were a weird kiddo. Parent's never discouraged or encouraged their outfit choices or names or pronouns (until I came out officially) but their school did. (hee hoo culty private school run by a religious group) Poor kid always got told "why can't you be more polite for a girl your age?" "why can't you be more girly?" "that's not appropriate for a girl" etc... by their peers and teachers and such. And while parents didn't discourage or encourage certain outfits, the occasional "you have all these cute dresses, don't you want to wear one?" didn't exactly help. Little me never really got along well with the girls their age, had maybe one or two close friends who were girls, the rest were boys. Little me thought at the time it was because "girls were boring" and (insert other horrendously misogynistic ways of thinking about girls) when really, little me just related better to the guys for some reason. (Huh, wonder why.) Anywho, little me's trans realization, or at least the closest they could get to one at the time, was NOT Mulan. I've heard others say it was theirs and while yeah I can see it, little me just went "ah, yeah that makes sense, girls can do that too, she's cool" and didn't really process it beyound that other than "I'm doing that too." Nah Little Me's trans realization was Treasure Island. All iterations of it. Particularly Treasure Planet. Little Me read the book, watched the early live action films, adored the Muppets version of the story. Little Me saw Jim Hawkins and immediately latched onto that character, whenever playing pretend or some iteration of "pirates", I was ALWAYS the cabin boy. Running around, doing chores around the ship, helping the cook, transporting gunpowder, listening in on plots of mutiny deciding when or if I should report it to the captain, engaging in sword fights against my pirate mentor and being torn between who to trust. The works. But Treasure Planet. Ya boi saw that iteration of Jim Hawkins and something clicked. That feeling of being different and not understanding why the world didn't like you, wanting some aspect of freedom but not fully knowing why or even what that freedom was you were reaching for, feeling abandoned by the adults in your life who on one hand loved and cared for you but on the other just did not understand you, all while not even understanding yourself, wanting to escape from it all in some grand attempt at proving you were...something...someone...not fully able to grasp what that was but wanting it all the same, finding that sudden rush of joy at being able to express yourself and feel free to make your own path in life, ya know, Jim.
So yeah, Disney's Mulan did not "push some woke, trans agenda" onto my young little brain. But Treasure Planet and all iterations of Treasure Island sure did lol.
Anywho, I'm gonna go listen to Still Here again.

Whimsical, chancy, female, lunar: yaoi and yuri in the Aubrey/Maturin series
the inherent yuri of the sea and the inherent yaoi of the sailor is the most ancient queer solidarity
- twitter user caranthirs. I would link to the tweet, but their account appears to be suspended (RIP)
This essay was born from a discussion prompt asking about the relationship between yaoi and reality. In answering I was reminded of the above tweet. Tongue in cheek as it no doubt is, it’s always really resonated with me and my own personal experience with yaoi, yuri, and queerness, such as it is.
First of all, it’s a truth universally acknowledged that there’s something kind of fruity about the ocean. A great deal of boat media, which is a term that I’m using to encompass everything from Moby Dick to One Piece, from Muppet Treasure Island to the Titan submersible implosion incident of 2023, is intimately concerned with this. One thing I’ve always been intrigued by with boat media is the inherent constraint, the inherent loss of control; even in our modern day, the ocean is an unpredictable element, and to this day it has depths that are literally unfathomable to science. There’s a certain powerlessness one has to give oneself over to to board a boat, and of course there’s timeless romance, endless stories and art and music associated with the sea.
I’ve been to the ocean maybe four times in my whole life, and I’ve always lived in an area of the United States that’s about as inland as it’s possible to be on the planet Earth, but I’ve long been fascinated with boat media, though I was not always conscious why I was drawn to it. When I was growing up I had a persistent autoimmune disorder that destroyed the vision in my right eye and from a very young age I was forced to sit still for various eye exams, procedures, surgeries. Because I was so young when all this started, I never exactly rebelled against it; if I was a fish, then this near-constant constraint placed on me was the water that I swam in. I was a kid who lived in my head a lot, and my head was filled with fantasies of escape. I used to make up stories and tell them to myself before bed, a kind of self-soothing ritual that saw me off to sleep. In more difficult times in my life, especially as an adolescent, this quite literally got me through the day; I would look forward to my little bedtime story, and sometimes not.
The stories differ greatly, but the one thing they’ve all had in common is they’re always about at least two characters who are trapped together, undergoing some kind of external trauma or abuse or privation, and together are trying to escape, but they never succeed. The reason for that is that the stories have no ending, by design; the “end” comes when I fall asleep. Sometimes there are self-inserts, but usually they’re about other characters, usually male characters. For a long time I didn’t exactly understand or think much about why I identified so strongly with these stories, which were sometimes original and sometimes elaborate works of fanfiction, sometimes erotic and sometimes not.
I was something of a late in life yaoi adopter; I was immersed in Western media fandom spaces and I viewed a lot of slash fandom initially with contempt, but based on what I’ve described above it’s maybe not greatly surprising that I became a big yaoi fan when I was around 19 or 20. I found it both enticing and alienating at once; I was a cis girl but I felt like I was a failure as a woman, and reading about or trying to identify with women didn’t always do it for me. There was something about viewing male as the default that was attractive; I remember as a kid, pre-internet, I would consciously look for books about male protagonists, though as an avowed feminist I felt obscurely ashamed of this.
Shame was an essential component of all of this, by the way. Both eroticized shame and the more down to earth, un-fun kind. There was always the question in the back of my mind: did I wish I was the man, or did I desire the man? There were similar questions about my attraction to women, which were even more disquieting in what they did or did not say about me: did I desire a beautiful woman, or did I want to be a beautiful woman? Shame was inextricable, and constant; shame about my nascent queerness, shame over how poorly I performed my own gender, and shame about being into all this yaoi shit in the first place. I had internet friends by this time, but I didn’t tell any of my real life friends about my online activities. I had an absolute horror of being seen as the type of straight girl (or bi girl, as I identified at the time) who fetishizes real life queer men.
Currently, I’m in the middle of reading Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey/Maturin series. I fucking love it, and something about it has helped me square some of the circles involved here; discussing these books, with other fans online and with unwilling victims loving friends and family members has led me to reflect on some of the above in ways I never have before. It feels freeing in a way I never even knew I was constrained. To bring it back to the quote from the beginning, and also add a passage from the eighth novel in O’Brian’s series:
“‘With the wind as it lies, I believe we may look for them the day after tomorrow,’ said Jack. ‘But tell me, Professor, is not this a most prodigious wearisome ride you are undertaking?[...]’
'No doubt,’ said Graham, ‘but the sea is an uncertain chancy whimsical female lunar element: you advance one mile upon its surface and at the same time the whole body of water has retired a league. I prefer the honest earth, where my advance is absolute, however arduous…” - The Ionian Mission, ch.11, paragraph 50
This character, a haughty diplomat our protagonists are forced to deal with while battling it out with the French in a Grecian port, is not very important in and of himself. Unlike the two principals of the Aubrey/Maturin series, he is no seaman and has no affinity for shipboard life, and his uneasiness while onboard the ship is tinged with a misogynist mistrust of the Mediterranean itself. I prefer to take a horse, like a man, he seems to say, but you and Maturin, feel free to stay here in your gay little boat.
(Sidenote/fun fact about Jack Aubrey: he has pretensions of being a horseman whenever he’s on land for any length of time, but he is in fact really bad with them and while riding is frequently unseated nearly but not quite as often as Stephen falls out of the fucking boat.)
That is one and this is another of the many, many ways Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin get kinda fruity with it; our two main characters are differentiated from landsmen (lubbers!) in this way throughout the series. The sea is dangerous, of course; Jack and Stephen, who face naval battles, sickness and disease, shipwrecks, storms, and volcanic eruptions on their voyages throughout the series, know this better than anyone.  As different as Jack and Stephen are, as different as two men can possibly be, what unites them is a niggling, persistent discomfort with life on land and this, coupled with their very great affection for each other, is why they choose to sail with each other over and over again. Though they came to it by different means, each of them finds that their true homes are on the sea, and with each other.
The essential yaoi of the seaman, the essential chancy, lunar, yuri element of the sea…. There’s something about it that makes me smile. Yeah…the ocean. She’s a little gay with it. Who isn’t?

im a cyborg but thats ok. and or the muppets (2011)
Tumblr media
I'm A Cyborg But That's Okay
I haven't heard of this one before (I'm woefully bad at keeping up with international releases) but the premise of a young woman institutionalized because she believes she's a cyborg and the only man willing to believe her seems interesting. Content warning for self harm if you decide to sniff this one out but it seems to be worth a sniff indeed!
Tumblr media
The Muppets (2011)
if i had to rank it i would give it an 8/10 for a kids film, a 7/10 for a muppets film (extra points for not being as racist as treasure island), and a 12/10 for when i'm really sad or i have a bad cold.
it's just genuinely really funny in a lot of places. multiple songs from this movie ended up on my spotify wrapped playlist because theyre catchy and well performed and because i have a sickness. tex richman is like a conceptually hilarious villain to me, and i loved that uncle deadly got more screentime than usual. the celebrity cameos are rather grating and miss piggy's outfits in particular are a little 2010s-dated (she is always on the cutting edge of style after all). i really hated the transmisogynistic joke about miss piggy's stunt double. walter was a welcome and charming addition to the classic cast, and it's great that he had jim parsons of the big bang theory portraying his gender dysphoria. overall i think the script could have been tighter and MUCH less meta, but there's joke that make me laugh out loud and i'm glad the muppets are still around. side note we should rip the meat off of bob iger's body for what the disney corporation has done to the muppets. there's an atrocious amount of disrespect towards the craft and the heart and artistry of the muppets as a cast, the workshop, and jim henson's legacy that manifests as wasted potential. make a puppet yourself and start having fun. 🏴‍☠️ watch the old variety show; it's good!
this joke about 80s robot makes me smile every time, and i think this clip gives you a good idea of amy adam's chipper cartoon energy (the performance comes off weird because nobody else is matching her, not even the muppets). also keep in mind that every time you see a puppet in a car (there's three here) there is a puppeteer hiding under the seat doing the acting.

The Plague got me. How do I know I'm not feeling great? I can't summon the energy to sing along to Muppet Treasure Island as I always do.
But I'm singing along in my heart.

A Word on Muppet Media and Music
[this post is about the Muppet Show and Muppet Movie Media, not all Muppets, so it excludes Fraggle Rock, Sesame Street, Emmett Otter and pre-Sesame Muppets]
The Muppet films [excluding the 2011 one plus its sequel, I'll explain why below] have no fricking business having songs that are this good.
The original Muppet Movie's "Rainbow Connection" is obviously iconic but it's also a really beautiful song if you take it out if the Muppet context. Same with it's reprise "The Magic Store" - I mean, c'mon!
Life's like a movie
Write your own ending
Keep believing, keep pretending -
We've done just what we've set out to do.
Thanks to the lovers, the dreamers and you.
Then, in the same movie, we get "I'm going to go back there some day", Gonzo's song, and oh my goodness, it's got unironically one of the most beautiful lyrics I've ever heard.
There's not a word yet
For old friends who've just met.
Part heaven, part space
Or have I found my place?
You can just visit, but I plan to stay -
I'm going to go back there some day.
And it's not just the Muppet Movies either - think about "Muppets Treasure Island" and "Muppets Christmas Carol" - yes the songs are sung by Muppets mostly, but you wouldn't know so if you took the lyrics out of context. Treasure Islands "Shiver my Timbers" is a great pirate-y pseudo shanty, "Something more" is a perfect I-want-song; Christmas Carol's songs overall set the mood for each scene - "Scrooge" has a looming undertone, "One more Sleep" is longing, "It feels like Christmas" perfectly encompasses Present's personality, "Bless us all" has happy words but a sad undertone (also the fact that Present is the only spirit to sing, and the fact that all the musical numbers cut pff after Yet to Come shows up, amd then the next song happening only after Scrooge returned to Christmas Day... aaargh so good).
Which brings me to the 2011 Muppet Movie by Disney. Where other Muppet songs did have a muppet-y tone, the actual lyrics were pretty deep, with interesting and clever plays on words, and you could easily take the lyrics out of context and the wouldn't read as particularily muppet-y or at least like they aren't in their own way little lyrical works of art. None of them seem childish or shy away from big words.
Disney's Muppet Movie's songs meanwhile gave us
Am I a man or am I a muppet -
if I'm a muppet I'm a very manly muppet.
Am I a muppet or am I a man?
If I'm a man then I am a muppet of a man!
and
Everything is great, everything is grand -
I have the whole world right here in my hand.
The lyrics seem so empty in comparison. They aren't clever, they aren't deep and meaningful, they just exist to be funny and to maybe give minimal storytelling on the very surface. The melodies also aren't very inventive and all the songs kinda just... sound the same? Meanwhile the original Muppet films had lyrics with layers that fleshed out the characters, songs of different genres and styles and meanings.
I swear I am just time and time again disappointed by the Disney-ification of The Muppets. You can tell that whoever wrote 2011's songs did not try to make good songs that happened to be in a Muppet Movie, they tried to Just Make A Few Very Muppet-y Songs and ooooh my did that backfire...

7 Comfort Movies
Thanks for the tag, @dreamingofmickeywaffles @reyestrandd and @lemonlyman-dotcom 🥰🥰🥰
1. Clue- there isn’t a second of this movie that is wasted, every single part of it is wonderful- the costumes, the dialogue, the over the top spectacle of it all- every single person in this (it also has the perfect amount of characters, I don’t know why this is a thing for me but it is) but all of them bite into the scenery and do not let go for 97 minutes and it is SENSATIONAL. I wish I could go back to 1985 and tell the people who said it sucked what they’re missing (and tell them about the multiple endings I can imagine how confusing that was in a pre social media world).
2. The Producers (the 2005 version) it’s impossible for me to watch this movie and be in a bad mood. Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane play off each other so well and I relate to Leo Bloom on a spiritual level (the line “you’ve mistaken me for someone with a spine” - MOOD). I haven’t seen the original so it may be rehashing but this just makes me happy.
3. Emperors New Groove- Aka the most underrated Disney movie in existence- Lordy do I love this movie. Every single of line is this is so goddamn funny even from the characters that aren’t necessarily supposed to be (I love Pacha’s wife- “UGH! I gotta go wash something”). And the fact that they wanted to do a villain as a young person backstory and picked Cruella over Yzma- a TRAVESTY. GIVE ME MY YZMA CENTERED PREQUEL DISNEY- I MEAN IT! (Sorry for all the shouting. Probably shouldn’t have filled this out after back to back shifts lol).
4. Sleepless in Seattle- this movie is just like a warm hug to me. Not even that it’s romantic- like it is but it’s so much more than that- it has just the right amount of characters and it does a good job of being a movie where they tell you don’t base your life around a movie but still being one of those movies and Rosie O’Donnell’s character is friend goals and Tom Hanks- he really is that charming- it’s one of those movies where I just think about it for weeks after I watch it (particularly the part at the end where he finally gets to Jonah and tearfully tells him “you’re my family. You’re all I’ve got”. Also the father-son stuff is top notch.
5. The Goonies- I’m still not over that Ke Huy Quan mentioned Jeff Cohen in his Oscar speech- but they are just the cutest group of kids and Brand is the cutest older brother in the you are so annoying but also you’re not gonna get hurt on my watch way and Chunk is adorable and I love all these goobers so much
6. Mary Poppins- this movie is just so wonderful. It’s beautifully shot and the songs and in between dialogue is amazing and I’m always embarrassed to tell people how much I love this movie cause I’m much too old and might cry about how much it means to me.
7. Muppet Treasure Island- MARGARITAS AT THE MIDNIGHT BUFFET!! This movie is really funny and also really sweet at the same time? Like I think about the there’s got to be something better song once a week but then there’s Gonzo whispering “I believe they prefer visually challenged fiend” and Jennifer Saunders as the innkeeper who can always hear them- “I’ll be fine boys- run for it!” “How does she do that?!” And Tim Curry- Tim Curry is having so much fun in this movie (“Satan is heating his pokers for you, you… blasphemous heathens!”) If I had two hours left to live I would put this movie on.
No pressure tags - @elevatehearts @hydesjackiespuddinpop @manicpixiedreamb0y @poppy-in-the-woods @baubeautyandthegeek @ellena-asg @draculakells @paperstorm

TAG NINE PEOPLE YOU’D LIKE TO KNOW BETTER!
Tumblr media
favourite colour(s): Pink, red, purple, green, pink.
favourite genre(s): I'm a big fan of anything really, from slice of life to angst - murder, mayhem, or even soft. Give it to me. I have been craving more found family content, so there is that.
favourite music: I love music, if I'm not listening to music I'm pretty sick, to be honest. From Rock to metal, to pop. But not really Country and Western (with the exception of Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash.) I'm pretty partial to Deftones, Chino has the hottest voice.
favourite movie: Movies are hard because I just generally don't watch them, I have been rewatching a lot of Muppet Treasure Island. If that is any consolation.
favourite series: Anime-wise, Gatchaman Crowds or Katanagatari have to be absolute favs, I tend to rewatch them on a regular basis - especially when I'm forcing other people to appreciate them. I certainly don't get tired of either of them. Books-wise, I was a fan of the King Killer Chronicles but I sorta lost touch with it.
last song: Currently listening to an array of songs from Arknights, literally playing ManiFesto at the moment.
last series: I've been into this series on youtube called Coffeehouse Crimes, true crimes with weird twists to them. Yes, it is my guilty pleasure.
last movie: Oh, Isekai Quartet Movie- Another World. It was fun, and nice to watch with the boys! There were a few yick moments, especially with Megumin, but overall it was good. It's made me excited for the next season of Tanya the Evil.
currently reading: Been enjoying Johnny got his Gun, it's one of my favorite books - very thought-provoking, with my line of work in mind. It's a man who had been in war and lost his arms, legs, sight, hearing, and voice - all he can do is sit there and think. He manages to communicate with morse code, using his head.
currently watching: In the midst of watching some things with my friend Steve, including the Cold Steel Anime. We're also in the process of watching the English Dub of Akame Ga Kill. We all know how I feel about Rean Schwarzer, and I do love Akame Ga Kill.
currently working on: My drafts, funnily enough, had a chill day today so it might take a little bit - but I've been working on them.
Tagged by: @dcviated thanks, Bear! This was fun to do. Tagging: @aceparagon, @xanican-exile, @boomermania, @goreburdened, @isaaccecilbryant, @sentofight, @kauma-kardia, @twinxmasters, @deathboundinautumn. And anyone else interested!

Howdy! Dropping by late for the fan fic ask game: L + P + S
Tumblr media
D my love!
OK let's see ...
L: How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?
Tumblr media
I try to have one dedicated edit session after I've finished writing and then if after that I have nothing to change, I'll put it down for like an hour, read through and if I can read through smoothly I'll send it out.
Otherwise I end up fiddling with word choice and sentence structure (really myopic stuff) for forever.
P: Are you what George R. R. Martin would call an "architect" or a "gardener"? (How much do you plan in advance, versus letting the storu unfold as you go?)
Kinda both and neither. There's usually a single scene or exchange of dialog that inspired me, so I'll write that down first and I'll jot down bullets of where to start, motivations and a rough ending.
But in between is all feel as I go, weeding and pruning and planting and sometimes the garden path takes me somewhere else or the ending I planned isn't quite satisfying for where I ended up so I'll need to change it.
Basically, think the Muppets from Treasure Island - I've got a map, but it was drawn in crayon by a toddler and not to scale.
S: Any fandom tropes you can't resist?
I love how everyone just agrees that all the clones are some level of unhinged/agents of chaos and shenanigans and if not for the war we'd be seeing so much of that silliness. I eat that shit up in fics because it's so heartwarming and gives a glimpse into their interactions we don't get to see in canon.

My parents' birthdays are coming up, so I got my mom an old Kermit the Frog plush she used to have.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The box is in pretty good condition except for the tear on the front, and wouldn't you know it, tape doesn't like to stick to 30 year old cardboard. Aw beans!
My mom's an avid Kermit collector, and I remember her having this one when I was a kid, but I haven't seen it in years. Do you guys wanna guess what turned up yesterday aporpos of nothing?
Tumblr media
AW DOUBLE BEANS!
She still has it! It's covered in dust and stains from god knows how long in poor storage conditions, but now my gift is pointless. She'll still like it, she'll appreciate the thought, she may even keep this new one on display because it's still in the box, but she'll always love the original one more. I think she got it new when Muppet Treasure Island came out, so it's even older than I am.
Oh well.
I got my dad Captain Picard's Ressikan flute from the TNG episode Inner Light.
Tumblr media
That's his favorite episode, so I've spent the last year scouring the internet for a replica worth buying. For months, the only ones I could find were made of resin and cheap paint that was visibly flaking off in the pictures, and none of them actually played, so I had to keep looking. The other day I finally found a reasonably priced etsy shop that makes tin whistles that actually play (in the right key no less!) and look like the one from the show. Jackpot! It's gonna be a few weeks before it gets here (assuming it's not a ripoff that was too good to be true), so he might not get it until after his birthday, but I think he'll like it.
Well, as much as my dad is capable of liking anything...
He'll open it, say it's "really neat," then put it on a shelf and never look at it again. It's not that he won't like it, he's just that he's incapable of showing any emotions besides festering rage and nihilistic apathy. He could love it, he could think it's the most thoughtful present he's ever received, but he'll react the same as if my baby nephew handed him a funny rock he found on the street. "Oh. Thanks. What do you want me to do with this?" Buying gifts for him is thankless.

Character ask: Statler and Waldorf (The Muppets)
What a coincidence! I was just thinking of these two and how I hadn't answered an ask for them yet!
Favorite thing about them: All their funny remarks.
Least favorite thing about them: Well, their heckling can be a little bit mean sometimes.
Three things I have in common with them:
*I like theatre, film, and music (they must like them, or they wouldn't keep watching, even if they do complain all the time).
*I sometimes complain too much.
*I sometimes make corny jokes.
Three things I don't have in common with them:
*I'm not elderly.
*I'm female.
*I don't heckle stage performers.
Favorite line:
Hard to chose, but here are some classics:
Statler: I wouldn't mind this show if they just got rid of one thing.
Waldorf: What's that?
Statler: Me.
--
Statler: Do you think this show constitutes cruelty to animals?
Waldorf: Not unless they're watching it!
--
Statler: So that was Alice Cooper!
Waldorf: You should see his sister, James Fenimore!
--
(In response to the song "Boogie in the Barnyard")
Statler: Boo, boo!
Waldorf: ..say the men in the theatre box!
Both: Don't boogie in the barnyard!
--
From Muppet Treasure Island, after they catch Kermit and Piggy when they fall off a cliff:
Statler: Waldorf, you old fool! We're heroes! We saved the pig and the frog!
Waldorf: Well, it was too late to save the movie!
brOTP: Each other, of course, and Fozzie's mother Emily Bear, whom A Muppet Family Christmas reveals is their friend.
OTP: For Waldorf, his wife Astoria (who looks just like Statler in drag). For Statler, none – I don't know if he's currently married or not.
nOTP: Miss Piggy or Janice.
Random headcanon: Their health suffered for a few years in the '90s after Jim Henson and Richard Hunt died. Grief can have a physical effect, after all, especially for two elderly men who, judging by the various pacemaker jokes they've made, already had heart conditions. By 1996 they were both particularly frail, which is why they only played the ship's wooden figureheads in Muppet Treasure Island (the figureheads themselves were animatronics – Statler and Waldorf just provided the voices), and why they had to live in a nursing home for a while, as shown in the first season of Muppets Tonight. But by the end of the '90s they fully recovered, and came to live with the other Muppets in their boarding house (as shown in Muppets From Space) after they left the nursing home.
Unpopular opinion: Hmm... Do I have one? I know some old school Muppet fans complain that they've been Flanderized in recent years; that they criticize everything now, when on The Muppet Show they actually enjoyed some things, like old-fashioned ragtime. But if this is true, then I don't mind it. I've always felt as if they really do enjoy the things they complain about, at least more than they pretend to. They just love heckling!
Song I associate with them:
"The Varsity Drag"
youtube
"Take Ten Terrific Girls"
youtube
"It Was a Very Good Year"
youtube
"Marley and Marley" from The Muppet Christmas Carol
youtube
Favorite picture of them:
