Reveal Your Bollywood Glow: Unveiling Celebrity-Inspired Skincare Secrets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This blog is going to be all about Indian & bollywood inspired products and skincare tips. If you also want a blog separately about Indian natural and authentic skincare or hair care I'll surely make it. 🫶
Know Your Skin Type : Identify your skin type - whether it's oily, dry, combination, or sensitive - to tailor your skincare routine effectively.
Cleanse Like a Star : Use a gentle cleanser like Cetaphil or Neutrogena to remove dirt and makeup and a oil cleaner is a must if you wear makeup daily. Opt for micellar water for a quick and effective cleanse on busy days. (But I don't really recommend it).
Exfoliate for Radiance : Incorporate a mild exfoliator like St. Ives Apricot Scrub or The Body Shop's Vitamin C Glow-Revealing Liquid Peel to slough off dead skin cells and reveal glowing skin. And my personal favorite coffee scrub from The Bombay shaving company. Don't exfoliate more than twice a week.
Hydration Is Key : Use a hydrating toner such as Clinique Moisture Surge Face Spray for an instant boost of hydration or toner + mist from pilgrim works like magic (my fav 😭).
Targeted Treatments : Include a serum with ingredients like hyaluronic acid (for hydration) or vitamin C (for hyperpigmentation) if you are under 17 or 18 like me don't use vitamin c or if you want to use in very less %, I use 2% kojic acid for my uneven skin tone from pilgrim, it's very begniner friendly. (Always consult a dermatologist for your skincare don't go around seeing videos on insta and YouTube believing them). I recommend Minimalist if you want chemical bases serums.
If you are above 23 or 25 Incorporate a retinol-based cream like RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream for anti-aging benefits. (Got this tip from mumma for y'all 😭✨️)
Sun Protection Essentials : Always apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher, such as La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra Light Fluid, to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. More affordable and effective sunscreens from brands — dot and key, aqualogica, Dr. Seth and wish care.
Overnight Nourishment: Use a hydrating overnight mask like Laneige Water Sleeping Mask to replenish moisture while you sleep. Incorporate a facial oil like The Ordinary's Rose Hip Seed Oil for added nourishment and radiance.
DIY Treatments Inspired by Bollywood:
- Try a turmeric, gram flour and yogurt face mask inspired by Priyanka Chopra for glowing skin.
- Use aloe vera gel like Deepika Padukone for its soothing and hydrating properties. (MY fav bolly actress btw 😭❤️)
Lifestyle Tips for Healthy Skin : Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day people are not stupid that they are going around telling you to drink water, IT'S A MUST!. Incorporate antioxidant-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, and green tea into your diet for overall skin health.
Some of my fav brands (mostly available in india) : dot and key, Foxtale, pilgrim, minimalist, st. Botanica, organic harvest and aqualogica!
Fav brand released by a bollywood actress: Hyphen by Kriti Sanon, their lip balm can even beat Rhode's lip balm istg- and their sunscreen 🔛🔝.
Channel your inner Bollywood diva and achieve a radiant, flawless skin with these skincare tips and product recommendations. Let your skin glow like a star!

Hello!!! I was reading this post of yours (for my research) and i'm truly wondering how did Byzantine princesses wanted to take a bath?? Do you have a post for that?
I don't but I managed to find a few pieces of information about the general habits of Byzantine bathing and grooming, and particularly that of the empresses and the princesses.
"The wealthy and noble women of the empire were concerned with their looks and Christianity cast no pall on the baths nor the sale of cosmetics and perfumes. (...) Byzantine gardens, therefore, had areas set aside for aromatic flowers from which could be distilled some of the more fragrant oils. (...) Mirrors, tweezers and similar hygiene equipment would have been commonplace in a Byzantine home. (...) Michael Psellos wrote that (Empress) Zoe turned her chambers into cosmetics laboratory in which she created cosmetics and ointments to preserve her beauty well into old age. (...) Byzantine women did not use as heavy cosmetics as their earlier Roman counterparts. (...) For eye liner and darkening eye brows and lashes, kohl was very popular."
Source: http://gretchenbrownauthor.com/2018/04/08/cleanliness-and-hygiene-among-the-byzantines/
"Women washed their hair in special fragranced solutions that naturally lightened it, including saffron, turmeric, fern roots and citrin-colored sandalwood and rhubarb.  The cloths they wrapped their hair in were usually brushed with perfume. People made their own scents at home.  Lotions and creams were made fresh from natural sources and had to be used in a few days. (...) There were many public baths;  the Byzantines - even monks and nuns - bathed frequently. One was expected to bathe twice a week. (...) The Byzantines had a wide variety of cleaning products for bodies and clothes."
Source: https://www.pallasweb.com/deesis/daily-life-in-constantinople.html
"Byzantines in the capital city of Constantinople developed public baths similar to those found in Rome, and public bathing was a daily ritual for many. (...)  Unlike the Romans, who used a lot of makeup and cosmetics, the Byzantines avoided heavy preparations for their skin. Instead, they developed rich perfumes using ingredients obtained in trade from China, India, and Persia, modern-day Iran. Perfume making was developed as an esteemed trade."

Baltoyianni, Chryssanthi. "Byzantine Jewelry." Hellenic Ministry of Culture. http://www.culture.gr/2/22/225/22501/225013/e013intro.html (accessed on July 29, 2003).
Cosgrave, Bronwyn. The Complete History of Costume and Fashion: From Ancient Egypt to the Present Day. New York: Checkmark Books, 2000.
"Let us now place ourselves in the second half of the 11th century, when a Byzantine princess arrives in Italy again; not in Rome but in Venice, although with the same nuptial purpose. This time she is Theodora Doukaina, daughter of Emperor Constantine X Doukas and Eudokia Makrembolitissa (the niece of Patriarch Michael I Cerularius) who is to marry Doge Domenico Selvo. (...) The Byzantine stravaganza of Theodora was reflected not only in the colossal retinue she led or the impressive tiara she wore at the ceremony (the one worn by her brother Michael VII, who had just inherited the imperial throne) but also in her own daily behaviour, which included such whims as bathing in the dew that his servants collected or – and here is what interests us – the refusal to touch food with her hands, so that she made use of a golden fork to prick the bites that her eunuchs had previously cut off."
Source: https://www.labrujulaverde.com/en/2020/06/how-two-byzantine-princesses-scandalized-europe-by-using-a-fork/
"While the Germans like Theophano, many of them thought her odd. The Byzantine empire was known for its luxurious, decadent ways, and Theophano was a product of that 'decadence'. She talked too much, she bathed every day, and, strangest of all, she used a two pronged utensil to bring food to her mouth (aka a fork), instead of eating with her hands like everyone else."
Source: http://www.thathistorynerd.com/2017/07/damn-girl-holy-roman-empress-theophano.html
Check here for a great link with detailed description of Byzantine public baths, how they worked and how they were taken
Peter Damian, the Cardinal Bishop of Ostia, wrote a chapter entitled "De Veneti ducis uxore quae prius nimium delicata, demum toto corpore computruit" ("Of the Venetian Doge's wife, whose body, after her excessive delicacy, entirely rotted away.") about an unnamed Byzantine princess whose manners he considered scandalously lavish and which brought to her a horrible death as a divine punishment. This woman has been mistakenly (since Damian died 1072) identified with Domenico Selvo's wife by later Venetian chroniclers (incl. Andrea Dandolo and Marino Sanuto the Younger) followed afterwards by various modern authors; however since the work in which Damianus' chapter is contained is dated ca 1059 it refers probably to Maria Argyropoulaina who had died a half century before.
From Wikipedia. Irrelevant but Maria Argyropoulaina might be the most modern Greek name I have seen in a medieval woman ever.
When, three days after the wedding, the new empress left her rooms to take her bath in the Palace of Magnaura, the court and the commonwealth gathered in queues behind her in the gardens. And when the empress passed with the servants who showed off the robes, the boxes with the perfumes, walking first, accompanied by three ladies of waiting who held apples decorated with pearls, as a symbol of erotic love, the commonwealth would cheer, the jesters of the court would make inappropriate jokes and the most important officers of the empire would escort the empress all the way to the entrance of the bath, where they waited for her to finish, and escorted her back to her bridal chambers.
Source: From The History of the Byzantine Empire by Charles Diehl, translated by me here.
They don't go into great detail as you see but I guess they are enough to give you an idea. Reminder to check the link I added above about the detailed description of the public baths - it is very interesting!

What are your favorite makeup products?

Lakmé Absolute Kohl Ultimate (Ash Brown): a brown kohl is a must for my routine. I tightline my top lid and the outer half of my lower lid to widen my eyes and give myself a Bambi look. The kohl by Lakmé is just as good as my more expensive liners from Sisley, and I always pick it up when I’m in India.
Kimchi Candy Girl Fake Freckle: this is a bit of a strange one, but although I have natural freckles, I also add freckles to my routine because they break up my face a little and distract from the features I’m not wholly happy with. I use henna to do my freckles and then use this pen from Kimchi to bring out any that were covered up by foundation; it’s the most natural-looking freckle pen by far, in my opinion, but there’s still a bit of a knack to using it.
Lancôme Cils Booster XL: this is the only mascara primer that works, and it really does work. I buy it by the bucketload and use it very liberally on my lashes; it not only stops my mascara from smudging, but it thickens and lengthens my lashes, too.
Chanel Lumière de l'Océan: this is apparently an illuminating powder, but I use it as a highlighter. I picked it up when I was last in Bordeaux and had time to kill in the airport, and it’s one of the prettiest highlighters I’ve ever used. It gives a bit more than the ‘soft glow’ that seems to be trendy right now, but it’s not chunky or overly blinding. I use it on my cupid’s bow and the inner corners of my eyes for everyday looks, and as a usual highlighter for fun nights out.
Guerlain Météorites (01 Blanc de Perle): my favourite finishing powder by far, although my favourite shade is Asia-exclusive and I have to wait until I travel out before I can pick up a new tin. Thankfully, it lasts an incredibly long time.
YSL Rouge Volupté Candy Glaze (13 Flashing Rose): I mourned the loss of the original, but actually, Candy Glaze is quickly becoming a favourite. Although there aren’t as many shades, and the formula is quite different, I love a glossy lip and a bullet lipstick, so this was perfect for me. I’ve been wearing this shade all summer—it’s the perfect raspberry lemonade shade on my lips.
AliExpress individual lashes: I’m really picky about my falsies, right down to the curl type, and AliExpress is one place that can guarantee me what I want. I spend hours mapping out my lash looks and finding the exact lashes I need on Ali, and I definitely couldn’t go back to using strip lashes.

this met gala was a very special one for me… my first stepping out on my own. i had many thoughts after reading the short story that the theme was based on… but what i took away from it was a desire to represent both the power of nature and the delicacy of it. in nature, death is both an ending *and* a beginning. when you prune away that which is dead, new buds are free to grow. fitting, then, that the dress #DanielLee designed for me, full of english flowers, was deliberately bridal. white, representing a rebirth. a clean start. a recommitment to the most important relationship i will ever have, the relationship from which all others grow: my relationship with myself. it is through loving and honouring myself that i am able to love and honour my daughter, and teach her to do the same.
i am ever changing, ever growing, always beginning… and FREE, to love better, stronger, more fiercely and fearlessly than i ever have 💞

I spent some time with @TannerAdell for @EliteDaily 🐇 We discussed ‘Cowboy Carter,’ her upbringing, musical inspirations, and uncovered a few things along the way.
“The Kentucky-born artist grew up in Los Angeles County and spent summers in Star Valley, Wyoming. She is biracial and sings country songs, some of which blend genres. All the while, she has maintained her authenticity by showing up as she pleases and not getting pigeonholed into anyone else’s idea of who she should be.”

The Myth of Primtivism by Susan Hiller
The Myth of Primitivism is an anthology of essays collected by Susan Hiller that scrutinises the West’s concepts of primitive art. One of the essays that I enjoyed and can see a connection to my work is Primitive Art and the Necessity of Primitivism to Art by Daniel Miller. This essay argues that primitivism is a necessity in art and discusses how primitive art has been constructed by the West.
The essay begins by explaining how paradoxical art becomes when trying to liberate or raise awareness for a cause. For example, in the nineteenth century when artists were “opposed to agents of differentiation and fragmentation” (Miller,1991). They were against monetary values so they created “handmade and non-utilitarian products” rather than using easily reproduced methods of image making. As a result, they used expensive materials and the cost of their work was exclusive to the bourgeoisie. I have observed that some of the artists that I have looked at in this project also create paradoxes as a result of their work. For example, Qamar’s pop art was intended to be subversive and empowering however by mimicking a pop art style that was moulded by the male gaze, she has created images of Indian women who have generally European facial features but are adorned in Indian jewels and makeup. So even though she is creating subversive narratives with her ethnic minority characters, she is reinforcing the “white gaze”(Fanon,1952) and male gaze” (Mulvey,1973).
In this chapter, Miller also discusses the oriental design and how it was fabricated as a connection between the UK and India. By introducing the reader to Said (1978)’s investigation into how Orientalism came to be. Said found that when Indian fabric was imported to the West the textile industry was amazed by the “greater sophistication in dyeing techniques” compared to the practices used in the West. After introducing the new fabric to the West, they found that the style of design that appeals to the Indian public does not match the ones in the UK. As a result, the UK started to produce textiles that were labeled as “Asian” to seem exotic. The designs created were projections of “what the Indians should have been making for themselves” Consequently the oriental style was birthed, and became a form of “expression of the relationship between two societies”
I found this particularly surprising as I always associated the oriental style with China rather than a cycle of negotiations between the UK and India. I think that due to the historical transnational nature of the textiles industry, it is hard to pinpoint where some inspirations came from. When I was picking a pattern for my first lino, I struggled to pick designs that were “British” other than a stripe pattern or Burberry check. Even though I was advised to use patterns like Laura Ashley’s, I hesitated because I did not have that strong association with these patterns and the UK, most likely due to the influence of other cultures on her designs. I think moving forward I will be more open-minded about the patterns that are relevant to my project because I did not previously realise how fluid the influences are across the whole world as a result of trade, globalisation, and colonisation.

Let the Great Debate Begin: Is Kajal Better Than Eyeliner?
Who wouldn't desire more attractive, gorgeous eyes? After all, our eyes mirror our deepest lives. In antiquity, the kajal was considered as a beauty symbol. It is also excellent for the eyes. However, many eye cosmetics are now available on the market, including kajal, kohl kajal, eye pencils, kohl kajal pencils, and many others.
However, why is black the only color associated with beauty? There are several colors, like bronze, blue, eyeliner, brown, red, and many others. Do you know what the difference between eyeliner and kajal is? In this article, we'll compare the two and debate whether kajal or eyeliner which is better.
Benefits of Kajal-
Because of the darker formula, you get a more dramatic effect.
It is simple to use on the eye.
The best remedy for smokey eyes.
Avoid causing harm to your eyes.
The creamy texture contributes to the smooth action.
It is inexpensive and simple to remove.
The disadvantages of kajal-
A specialist is required to utilize it appropriately.
Finding genuine and authentic brands may be difficult.
Benefits of Eyeliner-
It doesn't bleed through or smear and provides you with a dark, long-lasting, and better appearance after a long time.
Natural black and golden eyeliner are among the many colors available.
Cons of Eyeliner-
Doesn't work well with smoky eyes.
It is difficult to remove, so if you make a mistake, you must delete it.
With so many cosmetic items available to enhance your overall appearance, makeup artists swear by the quick beauty that eyeliner offers.
Every woman's cosmetic arsenal includes eyeliner, which can change plain-looking eyes like magic.
This is placed along the rim of the eye to make your eyes appear more open and your lashes appear thicker. This is also available in a variety of forms, including liquid and gel.
Most women have already decided which sort of eyeliner formulation best meets their needs, whether gel or liquid.
However, if you are new to the eyeliner game and are still unable to figure out which eyeliner is YOUR eyeliner, we are here to help. We have all the knowledge that you require to help you decide between liquid and gel eyeliner so you don't buy the wrong one. Continue reading to learn more!
Both liquid and gel eyeliner has various benefits and effects. That is why it is vital to educate yourself on both before purchasing one!
Trust us on this; we don't want you to regret your purchase!
Before we get into the specifics of gel eyeliner vs liquid eyeliner, here's a basic rundown of the similarities and differences between the two:
Liquid Eyeliner:
superior at drawing fine, crisp lines
It is simple to apply because it includes an applicator.
It might have a gleaming finish.
sets quickly and leaves little opportunity for mistakes.
Given that it may sting your eyes if used for tightlining, it is best used on the upper lash line.
Gel Liner:
Ideal for thicker, more pronounced streaks.
Can achieve both a smeared and defined look
The texture is blendable, customizable, and forgiving of errors.
Depending on the style you want to achieve, you may need to use a second applicator brush.
This is a common option for tightening the waterline.
Similarities
Both allow for accurate application.
Both may be used to achieve "cat-eye" and "winged" eyeliner styles.
Both require trial and error for newcomers since they are difficult to apply. Reapplication is simple due to their mobility.
Both come in a variety of colors and are waterproof.
Both are rather inexpensive.
Both last around 2–3 months.
As mentioned previously, kajal, eyeliner; gel, or liquid eyeliner each have particular applications and perform an important role. Kajal may be used to conceal the upper and lower eyelid waterlines. Eyeliner, on the other hand, is exclusively used on the upper eyelid and is preferred by most women. In India, the combined product of these two essential components of beauty is now popular. Women want to enhance their appearance by using eyeliner, kajal, or both. As you can see, we can't determine whether kajal, eyeliner; gel, or liquid eyeliner is preferable.
