Why I like Sonic and Tails in Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.

I was recently discussing AoStH, and one of the things I realised is how good the show is at showing Sonic and Tails as being friends. As opposed to the games where for the most part they feel more like co-workers.

The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog frequently sets up its plots and scenarios by showing Sonic and Tails hanging out - eating chili dogs, reading comics, playing games etc.; before finding out what Robotnik's scheme of the day is or discovering a problem that they wish to solve, usually via a guest character. They're shown as always on the move from place to place and it gives Mobius a feeling of deeper backstory and people.

As well as exposition, these scenes also establish Sonic and Tails as adoptive siblings who look after each other, with Sonic as the older brother, even going so far as to show them doing chores. It does a good job of selling these two as friends who like to hang out and travel the world in search of adventure. The little moments also serve as pauses/breathers in the runtime, which is why the idea of this show just being zany antics is somewhat misguided.

The game's idea of Tails meanwhile is an independent character who happens to be Sonic's superfan/friend, it's a good one but like so many SEGA ideas they half-bake it; past Sonic Adventure 2 Tails more or less only shows up with Sonic because the plot needs it, and serving as the exposition dump/tech guy (the latter role being filled by guest characters like Caninestein in AoStH). Like a lot of the things in the games their friendship feels like something that's told rather than shown. In fact it's one of the things I like about Sonic Unleashed where Sonic and Chip do similar "Let's go to this place and have a snack" moments.

In the games defence, there is an expectation that you don't take too much time away from the player, and what time you do allocate to cutscenes you want to fill with epic action or exposition dumps to move the plot forward. Certainly I wouldn't want a Metal Gear Solid length cutscene where Sonic and Tails are discussing this season's football transfers.

However, I don't think it's impossible to show these two doing something like fishing or watching a movie for a brief moment at the start of an adventure or between acts in a game, it would certainly sell them as friends more. As for the independence bit, to be brutally honest Tails fans it's called Sonic the Hedgehog not 'Middle Aged Man is Bothered by Annoying Teenagers', so Sonic is nearly always going to be central to the plot. At least until we get Tails Adventure 2: This Time it's Personal

in honor of 4chan exploding, I want to remind you all that they used to do “raids” on Tumblr.

they tried to flood the popular tags with gore and porn. this was when Homestuck was at its peak, so they were a target too. (side note: tags barely functioned at all at this point so trying to make them useless was like throwing a molotov into an already burning building but try telling that to 4channers)

but the Homestuck fandom was ready and countered by flooding the tag with weirder, more explicit Homestuck porn and gore.

to the point that the trolls themselves got weirded out, fucked off, and never attempted a “raid” again.

everyone moved on but I stayed there because that is one of the funniest fucking things to happen on this website.

Jon and Martin as a couple actually mean the world to me. As an ace person, I hardly ever get to see media that represents asexuality in a way that feels realistic to my experience. Romance is important to me, but it’s always tied in with sex as if they are inseparable. Most ace characters are aroace, and I have literally never come across an ace character in a romantic relationship until Jon and Martin. I think that’s part of the reason they’ve taken over my brain so much in a way no other ship I’ve come across has so intensely. On top of the fact that I love their characters and the TMA universe as a concept like they have lowkey changed my life.

finished designing Jakub's TOWW (ive been calling her Melinoe) and mapped out his scars/gave him more piercings. plus bonus art i did of them while i was mulling over their relationship togetherrrr

im still mulling over some details but essentially Melinoe was locked up in her own purgatory by her siblings for the fact that she was ready to impede any progress they wiling to pursue to ensure they did not lose faith from their followers and stayed relevant in a continuously shifting and changing world. she wanted things to stay the same, selfishly, knowing that she would never have to worry about her place in the world as she was always a constant.

when Jakub finds her she's willing to give his life back purely for the fact she did not anticipate such a fate would befall his kind by the hands of her paranoid siblings. She thought better of them, but clearly could see now that they had been slowly losing their minds. She offered to work with him and gave him her crown to use so long as he agreed to help her as well, willing to work together.

Jakub agreed simply for the gain of such power and when he did she simply asked that he never relay to her any details of what he might have to do to relinquish controls of her chains from her siblings. He would never truly honor this request, as he wanted to see her squirm. wanted to see if he could make a long standing god flinch.

Their relationship remained a tense one, she had no ill will towards Jakub and took pity on him because in the end she knew she'd need to ask more from him to truly be free, and he saw her as foolish and a just another fracturing remnant of the old faith he wanted to see truly wiped out of existence. He had always desired to simply kill off her siblings and then her as well. He had no desire to continue working with her once the crown was truly his to claim.

in the end she told him if she were to be free she'd need more from him and his followers, and he declined. She did not fight him out of anger or the feeling of betrayal, but what she finally saw as self defense, knowing full well that Jakub had no intention of truly helping her. He brought her down to her knees and ended her life, fully satisfied that he was doing what was right in his pursuit of ridding the world of the old faith and pursuing his own godhood in the wake of a new era.

I 100% believe Lois Lane requested the presence of Bruce Wayne in her delivery room.

Nobody, not even the League, understood until it was time to give birth and Clark froze up at her bedside. Bruce was there to coach them both through it, as Clark’s friend and as Lois’ human reinforcements.

(Bruce flew to Metropolis in a helicopter when he got the news. He found Clark ashen and trembling at Lois’ side, eyes clenched shut as she screamed. He slid into place like he’d never been missing, talking Lois AND Clark through it like he delivered babies every day of the week)
