Fics Master List
Figured I might as well put these together all in one post, I didn't realise I'd written so much till I looked back on it But here goes!
Go leave the lovely @adevilyoudo some love for the wonderful dividers (I'm old that may not be the term) they created for the community!
Tumblr media
Completed & One Shots
Loose The Arrow - Complete - 50 Chapters - EXPLICIT
Astarion / OC Tav
Astarion has everything they could possibly want, power, prestige and nobody to answer to, but he doesn't have her, the one taken from him by a deadly deal.
An alternate look at a relationship with Ascended Astarion and the Druid Verlaine. Focus' mainly on the relationship after the Elder Brain with flashbacks into moments during their journey.
(Artwork by @raavila)
Tumblr media
Mid Winter In Moonrise - One Shot - EXPLICIT
Astarion / Halsin / OC Tav
An off shoot from Loose The Arrow. Astarion is comfortable enough with his and Verlaine's relationship that he broaches the subject of allowing a play partner.
Bitter Suns - One Shot - EXPLICIT
Durge / Gortash
Helika looks upon the new Archduke and wonders why the mangled meat of her mind reaches for memories she cannot grasp. In all the confusion and hidden truths about who she is, why is this man compelling, who is he to her, and why do her knees desire to bend in his presence?
A one shot that was inspired by a piece of art by @feyspeaker. I won't post it here as it was a commission and I don't have permission to post it, but that's just a great excuse to go check out her work to find it. Trust me, you'll know which one it is!!
Whiskey Red - Complete - 2 Chapters - EXPLICIT
Rugan / OC
Rugan finds himself in somewhat dire straits and only one option. Ask an old friend for help! That is if she is still a friend after the last time they spoke three years ago.
Shameless smut that started the famous 'Its just a one shot' whine from me....yeah that didn't work as planned.....
Lilac & Sandalwood - Complete - 2 chapters - EXPLICIT
Astarion / OC Tav
A sweet story concerning Astarion and the statuesque Cerese!
This doesn't have much in the way of plot but plenty of smut. Part of an art exchange with the lovely @alcidence, Cerese is her baby <3
A Snake In The Garden - One shot - EXPLICIT
Rugan / OC
What is a man to do when he lucks into a pass to see one of the most expensive and exotic ladies in Baldurs Gate? Well he damn well goes to see her of course!
Part of an art Exchange with the ever talented @littleplasticrat I think I wrote this while still in denial about writing a long Rugan fic.
Tumblr media
Long Fics Still In Progress
Unleashed - 46/50 chapters in - EXPLICIT
Astarion / OC
For the past two years, Astarion has found himself mostly alone after the events of the Elderbrain. Still bound by the sun and dealing with feral spawn, he gets a chance to end the suns tyranny over his life. The only problem is, he has to deal with a Druid.
Nothing I write here will accurately explain this high adventure / angst /smut story. It is Part two of The Game series, (part one Loose The Arrow) and I don't want to give it away by over explaining!
The Devil You Don't - 29/? chapters in - EXPLICIT!
Raphael / Astarion / OC's
After avoiding the devils many attractive traps during her fight against the Absolute, Ren finally succumbs to falling into his clutches in the name of helping a friend. Now she is caught in a maelstrom of toxic relationships, power struggles and finding out just who in the hells she actually is.
A long running fic full of plot as well as some of my more adventurous porn, and somehow I managed to make people fall in love with one of my OC's!
Artworks by @alcidence (left) and @littleplasticrat
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Red Right Hand - 12 / ? Chapters in - EXPLICIT
Rugan / OC
A simple grab gone wrong and a simple life ruined in a single day, leaves Rugan feeling guilty enough to take on a new recruit. Yvie isn't the usual fare to be found in the Zhentarim, but she's got more than enough fire for the older Zhent to want to risk getting burnt!
This is what happens when you keep telling yourself you ARENT going to do a Rugan long fic. Fucking old man is going to kill me!
Tumblr media
Please do go check out the artists listed here, their work is impressive and being inspired or seeing other people bring my work to life is just the BEST experience, so go shower them with love and mutuals <3

Since devil theory is into anime, what types of genres do they usually watch????
Oh boy, this is gonna be a fun one to talk about :D
Well, for the most part. Also a bit long!
But first, something that’s probably not needed, but just in case: A disclaimer that some of the series mentioned here might not have aged well in terms of like… depictions of minorities or handling certain serious topics in questionable ways. I know a lot of the stuff I loved as a kid had problems like that.
*gestures towards Cardcaptor Sakura which has at least 3 different child/student x adult/teacher relationships, including the protagonist’s own parents for fuck’s sake!!*
Long story short, some of the mentioned series here are ones I have watched myself at some point in my life! I still love some of these for the good parts, but I’m not gonna make excuses for the bad parts (if what I just said about Cardcaptor Sakura doesn’t already make that clear). Again, this kind of thing is probably obvious for most people? But it’s also probably a good idea to state the obvious anyways.
So yeah, now that the disclaimer is established, onto anime talk!! Also a bit of manga talk here and there, since there’s overlap with different series. :u
Reiterating from my big Devil Theory post, all four of them had a little anime-manga club going during their school days (Nunchaku was an honorary member since she still lived in the US during this time). Adding more to this headcanon/idea, they kinda-sorta still have the club going, but it’s really just the four of them hanging out and watching/reading/talking about anime-manga stuff together like friends anyways. Also debates on stuff like power levels, which characters would win in a crossover battle (a la Death Battle), arguments over why a certain manga series does or did not deserve to have an anime adaptation, etc. :P
Also each of them have been bullied for this particular interest to some extent and at some point in their lives. Even with anime and manga being more “acceptable” these days, their first instinct is to still keep quiet about it, and hide any merch they have from anyone who notices. It takes each of them a while to actually open up about the topic to their own partners, let alone any friends outside of their own little circle. They get there eventually!
Moving on to the specific topic of favorite genres, in general they’ll at least check out the popular stuff together. Astro Boy, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, YuYu Hakusho, One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, Hunter x Hunter, Full Metal Alchemist, Mob Psycho 100, My Hero Academia, Delicious in Dungeon, Odd Taxi, also various anime movies like the Studio Ghibli films, so on and so forth. You probably get the point! Dragon Ball and its sequels is probably the big one they all remember starting off with. Each of them also have preferences for other stuff they’ll watch/read on their own!
Just as a reminder of who’s who, I’ll put in parentheses which OC corresponds to which DT palette, and a little blurb about them.
For specific favorites for Sai (spring palette, guy with anger problems who gets it sorted out eventually), his favorites are pretty straightforward: as long as it has awesome fights, he’ll watch it! He’ll suffer through a show with a crappy plot if it at least has excellent animation for the fight scenes. Like basically “we saved the budget for the fight scenes and cheaped out on everything else” levels of blegh. Same with manga, it better at minimum have cool art and fight scenes or it ain’t worth it in his opinion. Also he was absolutely inspired to get into art because of those fight scenes, and thus he now works as a freelance artist!
For Nunchaku (summer palette, butch lesbian with high gremlin energy), she really likes sports manga. Admittedly I don’t know a whole lot about this genre of anime/manga myself, but from snippets I’ve seen, I know it can get wild sometimes! Because of the period of her life where her parents forced her to do as many sports as possible, she knows a decent amount about a lot of different sports. She likes to see how the series she reads/watches compare to the real thing, and enjoys when things get really ridiculous.
Also a big fan of the early seasons of Pokemon, Digimon, and Yugioh. Those were her big intros to anime besides Dragon Ball. The later seasons of those three, eh, not so much. She doesn’t hate them but doesn’t love them either, y’know?
In addition to that, she also keeps an eye out for good wlw/yuri series. Nunchaku mostly checks out series made by (or at least written by) actual lesbians, bi women etc. But even then she has a very small pool of stuff she particularly loves, and is also frustrated with how little butch x butch stuff there is.
For Bō (winter palette, blond hair and weightlifting tech guy), he will check out anything involving mecha or cool technology, though he doesn’t always like them (Neon Genesis Evangelion is probably a big one that he regrets watching at all). At the least, if he likes the designs of the mecha/robots featured in the series, he’ll still buy figures or kits of them.
With series he’ll check out on his own that he actually likes, it’s mostly gay manga (i.e. stuff that tends to get labeled as "bara" in Western anime fandoms, even though the term itself is not generally seen as a positive in Japan. At least from what I’ve researched, it probably varies). Of course he enjoys them because Gay, but also because they tend to feature characters with similar body types as him who aren’t meant to be jokes in some way. Which, probably says a lot, doesn’t it? :(
So then besides those two genres and the big popular series he’ll check out with his friends, he’s more into gaming. Like, they all play video games and have their favorites, but Bō is the only one who would call himself a gamer. He has suffered through a lot of horrible video game adaptations of various series, lol…
And finally Daishō (autumn palette, leader of Devil Theory and sometimes basically roleplays as an anime villain while in costume lol), with his love of horror movies, he is also of course a big fan of horror anime and manga! Though whether he genuinely loves what he reads or not kinda depends, due to… sorta complicated feelings.
Okay so, the idea is, for a long while (including even into adulthood), he would check out particularly gruesome and gorey series, even if it got to a point of making him feel genuinely ill. Like, I’m talking about stuff with no deep story or themes to them, no cathartic or at least bittersweet endings. They were mostly if not completely just for the shock value of truly horrific things happening to the characters, who never survived in these series.
And a lot of the time, he read them just to laugh at the characters for being stupid, thinking they deserve the suffering. This also applies to non-anime/non-manga series too. He’d check out the stuff even big slasher fans would want to avoid, if that gives a better idea of what he was seeking.
After sorting out some personal issues (a lot of issues actually, including his big guilt about almost getting his friends and himself killed due to the deal with Faux), he comes to realize he only bothered with that particular subset of horror as a form of self-harm. Again, the big guilt about the Faux deal going wrong, though also guilt about feeling like he’s not doing enough for his friends, that his problems aren’t as bad as other people’s, and so on. Made himself suffer through horror content he can’t stand himself as a sort of subconscious punishment.
Once he works through those feelings, he stops reading/watching stuff like that. He even throws out and burns a lot of the books/DVDs/etc that he collected from that horror subset. After that, he still enjoys horror stuff of course! But he actually respects his own limits and doesn’t force himself to watch/read stuff he knows will just make him feel terrible or ill. He’s a big fan of Junji Ito stuff, plus other stuff in the same vein.
And, I think that about covers it! I was expecting to namedrop a few more series than this, but eh. :P

Veronica 💢 🕷️ 👪 and ❤️ :3
💢 ANGER - what are some habits they have that will take some getting used to?
usually she takes some extra time in the begining of the night to put a pretty face X'D washing, makeup, outfit, nails etc... thos some of her images take less time of preparation (like punk for example)
I can remember one specific moment in the game when she didnt have time to make herself all pretty and such because had lots of things to do and later on regreted this bc was mocked in elysium by it's keeper toreador and her goons, and im sure it wasn't the only ocasion in her life, so yeah i think as years go she keeps taking her preening routine more seriously and personal, probably OCD in some sense
another trait of her that some vampires might have troubles to getting used to - she has high level of humanity, so she would be against hurting inosent people, or killing anybody etc
if you have troubles or problems, she is willing to help, but it might turn into her giving her advice that you haven't asked for. so for you it might be pretty irritating, sometimes she's crossing the line
🕷 SPIDER - what is their biggest fear? do they have any irrational / mundane fears?
her beast taking over resulting in her hurting others (happened at least several times in our game), her loosing her humanity completely and her turning into inhumane bloodthirsty monster
loosing everyone she loves, being completely lonely
hurting kids - she even has tabu on drinking blood from children and teenagers
👪 FAMILY - what is their family like? what is your ocs relationship to them? does your oc have any siblings?
her biological family: back in 1920s, before she became vampire, she had father and mother, older sister and younger sister. older sister was married and had husband and little son Tommy (around 6-7 years old. the only character i came up with a name hahaa). her family origianally lived in little town near Chicago. Veronica had big dream of becoming singer or actress in Chicago. Her parents were judjemental of her lifestyle there and were telling her to stop this nonsense and marry already, like her big sister. So Veronica didn't have very good relationship with her parents but it wasn't awful either. Her relationship with her sisters were better
But after her embrace her sire arranged it so that Veronica was noted as dead so... Veronica hasn't had a chance to see her family again, because she had to keep the masquarade... Her family were heartbroken and her parents made a conclusion that nothing good comes from girl chasing her stupid dreams in a big city U_U
Even tho it was dangerous and painful Veronica sometimes would sneak to see how is her family doing
her last relatieve who remembered her - her nephew Tommy - died in nursing home around 80s. Veronica visited him there once, the second time she came he was already gone
sad is the story of immortal creatures
but neitherway, during her vampire years of life, she made friends and connections
there are vampires that I think she would call her family
for example her coterie members - Rene (character of my friend Kate), Jaquilene (character of my friend @tench-art), Charlie (character of my friend @osatokun)
her sire Moore, her friend anarch Jack, her friend Johny
fairy Monica also quikly won a place in Veronica's heart, and she thinks of her as her little sister (Monica called her big sis several times anyway haha)
and Veronica's current boyfriend brujah Jake is going to become her long term relationship (for at least several years for sure. its rare for vampires to have relationship forever) so he's also getting a place in her found family haha
❤️ RED HEART - their love language(s)?
attention, help, gifts, doing something for you, hugs, kisses, flirting idk

what’s kotlc and is it better than the great library? i read the latter and it was fun, perhaps not the height of literature but fun
OKAY! Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger is a long, ongoing middle-grade fantasy series following Sophie Foster, a 12-year-old high school senior who can read thoughts following a bump to the head at age 5--or so she thinks, until she's approached by a cute stranger who reveals she's really an elf who's been hidden away.
She's whisked away to a secret, supposedly perfect world of elves, goblins, ogres, and more. Sophie wants nothing more than to be normal, and tries to fit in--go to school, play with friends, etc.--but all her abnormalities have followed her from the human world. She's still weird, and it turns out it might be the result of bigger forces working behind the scenes. Forces she needs to uncover to learn who and what she truly is--but there's no taking it back, and plunging into the underbelly of her supposedly "perfect" new world opens a seemingly never-ending rabbit hole to try and understand and save it from itself. Full of rebellions, corruption, mysterious notes, stuffed animals, a large cast of characters, and so. many. sparkles. there's a lot going on for Sophie to discover
I think tgl and kotlc are hard to directly compare. tgl has a lot of explicit found family, fast-paced action, and is, like you said, just genuinely fun to read. it's quick, speaks to booklovers, and embraces a variety of different moral stances in a way that distinctly characterizes everyone. but it does falter in terms of consistency, and there are several contradicting details throughout it. kotlc is more structurally sound, but it is meant for a younger audience--which is not to say it's bad, but that it does impact reading. There are some cliches, such as experiment children, excessively powerful ocs, a love triangle, etc. It also has a fairly developed and explored world on several fronts, though there are some gaps. It does, however, want for diversity and representation. There are few non-white characters, few disabled characters, and no acknowledgement of queerness so far--though given recent releases it's possible that last part will change.
While kotlc is a special interest of mine and I'm quite attached to it, I don't necessarily recommend it to people outside the middle-grade age range. It's a solid series despite its flaws, but that doesn't mean you'll be head over heels; if you read it, I think it would be similar to how tgl was fun but not the height of literature. It's enjoyable and there are a wealth of characters to get attached to, compelling plotlines/character pasts, but unless you really click it'll just be a solid, time-filling read.
The series has also had a rough few years recently; the author has a lot going on in her personal life--which is totally fine, it just means there are long waiting periods currently. And not everyone thinks its worth it, because the story is going an unexpected direction and there are some creative choices made not everyone likes (too much focus on the love triangle, deposing the main character, butchering character arcs last minute, etc.).
All this to say kotlc has radically altered the course of my life and is an incredibly dear series to me, and I will be keeping up with it and blogging about it until the end of time with anyone who wants to join, but it's also not my favorite series I've ever read, if that distinction makes sense. If you do want some simple, if long, reading--go for it! We're always excited to have new people around and would love to have you. There's actually a pretty consistent, if small, fandom and a lot of art, fic, and other things to explore. But we'd also all understand without any pushing if it's not for you.
That was longer than I meant it to be, but if you have any further questions please do ask :)--and again, this is my view on it! Just my opinions and assessments

TEKVENTURES! I wanna ramble about Tekventures.
Tumblr media
if you remember them you qualify for a veterans discount
So they were Sgt.Frog ocs that my best friend SARAZA and I made on flipnote for edgy amvs and comics. I wanna say I wassss 13? give or take. But these little guys were my EVERYTHING. We thought of a billion stories about them. Then I got sick of drawing frogs eventually and wanted to make them more of an original thing. Our first sketches were of anthro goats, but over time with my style changes, an the fact that I hate spending more than 2 seconds drawing anything, they no longer resemble any specific animal and turned into fuzzy nondescript species of alien thing. ANYWAY I wanted to make them into a "real comic series" when i was 17. That's when I started the chapters that are still up on tumblr n webtoons! and a few other sites probably that I forgot about.
Tumblr media
I've been harsh on it in the past but honestly I still love it to bits. What's there is a solid little comic and i still think it's adorable!
The only thing is, that's judging it based on what's there. It's a basis for a cute episodic thing with low stakes! Like the early mlp fim episodes or the new care bears cartoon. But that's NOT what it was planned for in the long term. Oh no, I was so ambitious. I had at LEAST 50 episodes planned which would weave together into this massive arc that would introduce other space teams, wayward space travelers with secret pasts connecting to the main cast, sad backstories for everyone, ALL of the family members of the main cast, a villian team with like... 'anti-versions' of the main cast, and a dramatically foreshadowed final confrontation with robot clones that want to destroy their planet. OH AND ROBIN too! Besides all that, they ALSO have multiple side story episodes about crashing to earth and befriending a human girl named Robin who has to keep them secret.
Tumblr media
That might have been um. a lot.
But when you start writing a story with your best friend when you're 13 you most likely have NO CONCEPT of "too much". Who am I kidding I STILL have trouble pacing myself. But when you come up with a story it's hard not to think it's just GOLD! And that you've gotta keep it no matter what! Because that stuff is fun!
I went full force into the comic in my senior year of highschool and eventually I finished the first chapter! It took me a year. And then I looked at my plans for the other 49 episodes and thought "maybe I need to rework some things.."
I rebooted the comic once, tried making smaller stories, all that, but I wasn't quite feeling the same drive anymore. I realized I was comparing my work to high budget tv shows with like. a full team of writers and artists. and studio funding. and greenlit seasons and all that. And it was making me feel TERRIBLE about my art!
So I quit comics! I started hating comics! I hated how long they took and how restricted I felt (with my own expectations) and I lost my confidence in finishing projects because I was so sad about giving up on my big magnum opus. and I just kinda gave up and started only doing fandom art for a couple years. I did a jyushimatsu ask blog and kept it up for ages! And then a new season of Osomatsu came out and I realized when comparing it that I was basically writing an oc at this point. And that I CAN commit to long term projects if i dont get self conscious about it!
I still didnt wanna jump into comics again. But I thought of some new characters that I was becoming attached to. the very very beginnings of what could turn into a new idea.
Tumblr media
I thought "well i still love cartoons about space! even if im not making tekventures anymore maybe i could do another space story. a really tiny one."
so i started making an rpgmaker game! and it started taking forever. so in the meantime i made a really rough doodle comic about how the characters first met. as a little side story thing.
Tumblr media
and THAT was the key. I had to stop thinking about it like i was making a big cool tv show and starting my career and all that. its just a fun thing, off the cuff, not overthinking it, just for fun and personal expression.
so im still going with it! and its GREAT! Rocket chip has 12 planned chapters, and I'll be halfway done by the end of the year.
But BOY did it take me forever to learn that.

I promised I'd show off my beeg Halloween oc family, so that's what this post is about. All the art was done by my buddy @InfernalJade on Twitter and Newgrounds, please go check her out.

Update (8-6-23): Renovated the sypnosis and character descriptions so they're better written! Please take your time rereading :) Update (9-4-23): Made an Introduction video for the blog, please watch that first here before reading about each characters!
Within our world lies many tales, and in those tales lay legends told throughout history. Tales of trolls and true love, cautionary tales for children and the childish, and stories of the supernatural and superstitious. All of these fables were recorded over the years by many different people over many decades.
But that’s only to the people of Earth and the Dead. Beyond both planes lies a third realm, one where the Autumn Equinox rules forever. The days and nights are never too cool or hot, and a place full of humans and creatures of myth. This realm is Samhvilia, and it is the home of a wealthy family known as The Orthos Family.
The Orthos Family has been around for generations, and have been seen as high royalty to many in Samhvilia. It is here that The Orthos Family are keepers of deep knowledge. Books of lost history and much more from Earth are found and polished for Samhvilia to read. Whatever kind of book you wish to find, The Orthos Family will have it somewhere within their library filled walls. Not only that, but they’re the family that holds the Power of the Autumn Haunt (Halloween). Without it, Halloween would’ve been lost to time long ago.
But… even if they hold much knowledge from past decades, there is one story that remains untouched, untold by time. There is more to The Orthos Family than what everyone sees, and when two of the youngest sons in the family find a piece of an unsolved puzzle, they discover there is more to the Family and Samhvilia than anyone would ever thought.  Join the children of The Orthos Family, as they embark on a journey of mystery. To understand a rabbit hole of untold history, and the true powers of the Autumn Haunt and those after it.
Tumblr media
THE CHARACTERS
Founded by the Patriarch Samhe (Saw-way) Orthos, The old turnip has lived through much history and hell that he's grown tired over these last generations. He's often reserved to himself, but his cold and what feels like emotionless attitude can make the hairs of anyone who sees him stand up instantly.
He's not used to the world and how much it's changed, even outside of Samhvilia. His personality is that of a strict father, a tough and cold attitude to show he means business. In his spare time, Samhe likes writing in his room or reading a gothic book to himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Following Samhe is the Matriarch of the clan, Willo Orthos, A rutabaga headed nature spirit. She's somewhat similar to Samhe in terms of a strict parent, but she doesn't come off as cold or emotionless like he does. In fact, she's quite the opposite. Willo takes happiness in ger role as a matriarch and mother, teaching her children lessons for them to use as they grow older, and even offer a helping hand to those in need.
She has a few degrees in spell making, culinary alchemy, and party arrangements. Other than that, Willo is loved by her family and even by some other children. A kind mother despite being uncanny.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Moving from Samhe and Willo now comes the children. The first son of the family, Crane Orthos is the eldest of The Orthos Family children. He was raised by Samhe under a golden child influence, which developed his personality into that of pride an arrogance.
There are days where he's selfish, yet this doesn't mean Crane is completely heartless. He cares deep down for those close to him, whether it'd be his family or close friends (assuming he even has any friends). In his spare time, Crane likes to practice his sword fighting skills alongside writing down stuff in his private journal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next child of the Orthos Family is Hallows Orthos, the second oldest son in the family. Hallows' personality is described as charming and energetic, an optimistic go getter who loves playing tricks and pranks and having fun. He is also close to Crane, despite Crane having slight jealousy towards Hallows for being the Spirit of Halloween.
He doesn't care too much for his family's history archiving tradition, but rather he embraces the Autumn Haunt every single day. He is the Spirit of Halloween afterall, so to keep such a title and power is important. Otherwise Halloween as a holiday would've been nonexistent long ago. When he's not playing tricks or gobbling down bowls full of candy, Hallows loves playing around with his younger brothers and visiting Earth from time to time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next is the adopted daughter of the Orthos Family, Batile orthos is a vampire bat fairy who hailed from a different part of Samhvilia before she became a foster child. In the family, she's the older sister. It's unknown whatever happened to her previous family, but Batile doesn't remember. She's quiet, sassy, and a reserved bookworm who, like an actual bat, spends time hanging from ceilings reading or sleeping.
She's often the medium between Hallows and Crane whenever they argue, the older sister to keep Ignus and Scorch from making bad decisions, and her relationship with Willo by learning magic and feeling like she's a part of the family. In her free time, Batile likes to read magic books to help furbish and even improve her magic skills.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, we have Ignus and Scorch Orthos, the younger twin brothers of the Orthos Family. Ignus is the one in the orange sweater vest, while Scorch is the one in black. Ignus and Scorch's behavior and age are equivalent to that of tweens, ones who love to play tricks and find new adventures wherever they go. They can be a bit dumbfounded, and even comedic, but both twins stick together even when things get dark.
Ignus is described as adventurous and mischievous, while Scorch is smart and cautious. Together, these two like to cause hijinks wherever they are, and they also have a great relationship with Hallows.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Binded by flesh and soul; We, The Orthos Clan, dedicate to the archives of this world.

Get To Know Me Tag Game
Tagged by @blackwood4stucky - Aspen, thank you for the tag, but I am breaking all the rules and changing most of the some questions to really get to know me (and hopefully you)! Pretend I tagged you at the bottom, too, cause it won't let me tag you twice!
1. How did you get your nickname (or url)?
I don't really have a nickname, but my url is the first long term OC I used to RP back in the day. I see a lot of hate for RPing OCs these days, but when the internet still screamed at you before you could logon, almost everyone RPed OCs--in fact it was looked down on to RP an existing character or an OC that was related to an existing character. Gyoku Jynnae was a Star Trek OC, but I also RPed Star Wars, D&D, and a few others in AOL chat rooms, forums/message boards, and email. I keep the name in case I ever run into anyone from that time in my life because some of those people helped keep me alive and I'll never forget it.
2. What's the last thing that made you cry?
Therapy yesterday. I'm trying to be less allergic to feelings. Go me.
3. What's your latest guilty pleasure?
I generally don't feel guilty about the things that bring me pleasure, lol, but I'm a little embarrassed that I realized my Stucky playlist on Spotify has long since exceeded 200 songs (sitting pretty close to 230 rn) so I created, I shit you not, a spreadsheet to help me most effectively split it into more specific lists for various timeframes or feelings and I am really enjoying listening to all the songs and organizing it.
4. What sports do you play/have you played?
I never did organized sports, but I did regularly get dropped in the wilderness with a map and a compass for "fun" when I was in high school--does that count?
5. What are your pet peeves?
I hate the sound of chewing/lip smacking/swallowing. I probably have misophonia because it makes me want to vault the table and punch someone.
6. What is the first thing you notice about people?
Hair and hands, usually. Eye contact is not my forte, so I am way more likely to remember someone by their shoes or something than by their face.
7. What is your eye color?
Hazel. I have a ring of brown around my pupil, then a ring of green outside of that like some kind of ridiculous YA novel.
8. What super specific trope or genre is your kryptonite?
Not sure how super specific this is, but I love psychological horror and body horror. I love the kinds of stories and movies where I walk away thinking I'm moving on with my life and then days later, something happens and my heart is pounding and I'm thinking about it again. I love horror that lives under your skin and in the back of your mind until it grips you out of nowhere.
9. What is your superpower?
I am very observant of details, which might be a superpower, but it usually feels like my villain origin story. It makes me good at reading people, but terrible at finishing projects because all I see are the faults and I get overwhelmed and it never gets finished.
10. Which fictional world would you be happy to call home?
You remember that late-aughts Bruce Willis movie where everyone plugs into an interface that lets them leave their bodies at home and navigate the world in an idealized, customizable body with no pain? Yeah, me, neither. I don't think about being able to have a pain-free body that reflects my personal image of myself everyday. Not at all.
11. What are your hobbies?
Reading, creating art, and video games. Between kids and COVID, my other hobby, tabletop RPG, is on a long term hiatus.
12. Do you have any pets?
We've recently lost a dog and a cat, so we're down to 1 cat and about 27,000 fish (not really, but we do have 8 running fish tanks, 3 of which are each over 50 gallons, so, like, there's a lot of fish).
13. What is your biggest toxic trait?
Oh, man, when I am in a relationship with someone, I want to be the center of their fucking universe. Which is weird because I am not monogamous and I am my wife's number one wing man, but it's not about jealousy. I want to know that I can trust my partner to have my back. That they're thinking about me. That they want me. I want to be wanted desperately. I will and have broken up with partners who weren't bad people or a bad match for me, they just weren't as mad about me as I wanted them to be. I feel like a narcissist typing this out, but it's the truth.
14. Is there anything you're afraid you won't accomplish?
I don't know that this is really an accomplishment, but I always wanted to have lots of kids and I always wanted to foster and adopt some of my kids. I knew kids growing up that needed safe homes and never got them (I probably was one, but I was afraid to get into the system, so I just kept my head down and dealt with it) and I always wanted to be the safe place I never had. But, it's expensive. Not the kids--I know kids are expensive (I already have 2). I don't understand why fostering and adopting is so expensive.
15. What's number one on your bucket list?
I want to go back to school to become a teacher, but I'm really finding it daunting right now.

oooooh noteworthy au for rwrb 👀👀👀
but also orange au? 👀
I already talked about noteworthy au here but here's a bit more that I can give you on character profiles (note that I don't actually have a lot of musical experience, just school chorus up through middle school so be kind if I've gotten anything wrong):
a capella group alex joins, name tbd: 5 members*
alex: goes by gabriel from middle name gabriella?; tenor, musical theatre major
henry: third generation legacy member, face of the group/the hot one; baritone, music major
philip: third generation legacy member, musical director and president; baritone, music major
pez: he and alex get into trouble together, event planner/treasurer; tenor, dance major
liam: also from texas like alex so they bond over that, same year as alex; bass, visual arts major
*originally the a capella group in noteworthy has 8 members but I don't feel like coming up with 3 more male ocs with unique personalities (as hunter and spencer are part of a rival a capella group) so we're leaving it at 5 for now
reading this back, I'm actually now tempted to switch henry and pez in terms of their vocal registers because I think it would be very cool and gender of pez to have a deeper voice while caring fuck all about the gender binary, but I'm also a little attached to alex-pez tenors and all the mischief they get up to
--
as for orange au, this one is based on the manga/anime orange by ichigo takano and is for omniscient reader's viewpoint. I'm not sure how much you (or most of my other followers) know about orv, there are some very light orv spoilers, and orange is a story that deals with some heavy topics, so it's all going below the cut (including the content warnings)
cw: suicide, depression
first, here's a link to a very good overview of orv in terms of what it is, a summary of the plot, why it's special, about the characters/their relationships, and some caveats. it's a little long so feel free to read only as much as you want for context
what you need to know for its relevance to this au idea is that through reading orv you slowly find out that its main character kim dokja is a self-sacrificial piece of shit (affectionate) who is also very much allergic to emotional intimacy due to some childhood trauma. in the world of orv (fantastical, apocalyptic), he often will make his own plans to sacrifice himself in exchange for saving his friends' lives despite their repeated instance that they don't want him to do this and they'd rather figure out alternative plans
so it's very easy to map this tendency to the plot of orange, which is about a high school student who is trying to prevent the death of a friend after receiving letters from her future self in a parallel universe where she (and her larger friend group) lost this friend to suicide. the letters suggest ideas on how to make this friend feel less alone and less suicidal by making different decisions at critical points, as her future self (and the other friends' future selves) is very regretful that she didn't try harder to be there for him because no one realized he was struggling so badly
obviously this story isn't super realistic for a number of reasons, including the fact that the most any of us can take on is trying to be supportive of friends/family/etc who are struggling, not actually be responsible for keeping them alive. that is not a reasonable responsibility to take on and would be far too heavy for the person/people carrying it. also responsible adults and professionals should absolutely be consulted in this type of scenario, which is never brought up in the context of the story. insert many more caveats here that i cannot currently think of
however, at the same time, i also think that the story does a really good job of exploring themes of inevitability, regret, and choice which is why it's stuck with me for 7.5 years now. plus i think it just works really well with the characters of orv which is why I want to make an au of it

i want to know more about warmup and angelflesh!! since u drew them for aro visibility day!
warmup and angelflesh my fucked up beloveds <3 took a bit to answer bc i was doing some extra doodles
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
first up is warmup (no pronouns)! a young (like, 20s) unicorn (yes just a unicorn) and a long-standing mlp oc of mine who i draw, as, well, a warm up :P if i dont have anything else to draw i draw warmup. in terms of personality and story.. well..
Tumblr media
warmup's not a mean pony, but is pretty used to just going from place to place without making many "deep" connections to others. at the same time, anonymous report has been following warmup around as the two travel all over equestria, figuring wherever warmup goes (usually to clubs) theres bound to be a good story. shes not sure warmup has really, well, warmed up to her, but at the very least, warmup always waits for nonnie before leaving for the next adventure. warmup's aroallo, and pawsibly aplatonic as well, preferring relationships that aren't very deep and don't last for very long either.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
angelflesh has less art but more of a story! she's a young (about 19 moons) warrior from houndclan, one who used to be a bit more serious and rule-abiding, trying to live up to the high standards of bites parents. and she was on the track to be your perfect warrior, even having an apprentice already! but, one day, it seemed to just.. have enough. she belongs to a horror rp on discord called canidaera, and by houndclan is the canidplace, a weird building with a very hostile twoleg inside, surrounded by many many traps. one day, angelflesh went in, and everyone thought she would never come out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but div did. and now, speaking of angels and choirs and the song seemingly only she knows the true meaning of. it doesn't seem too worried about the pack (of which i also have a member of) anymore, but she's not too fond of the lake now. whatever happened to decay in there, she swears it finally made divine "perfect". she's a non-sam aro, not particularly interested by romance and preferring to focus on whatever friends can bear to deal with her new considerably Off feeling nature.

hi there!!! sorry i'm sending this late but if you still wanna do the ahit oc meme, 3, 22, 28, 50 for any of them please!!!
Oh- oh hi! I didn’t expect this- of course I’m willing to answer!! I can’t remember all the ones I listed, but for a few OCs I can think of with answers for the questions I’ll add them!
3. Inspiration
The first OC I can think of for what inspired them is Alexandra. I was sitting in art class in high school and Daddy Discord came on my music playlist, and I thought, "huh, this would actually fit if Snatcher had a daughter. Obviously that couldn’t be canon, but it’s a fun concept." …so I made a daughter for him and Vanessa (well, before the whole incident, of course)! Ironically, she ended up being mroe Vanessa’s daughter than Snatcher’s daughter because of her story (which I’d be more than happy to explain if you want, but to keep things somewhat short I’ll exclude it for now), but oh well :) I was honestly really hesitant about sharing her for a long time, but… I like her, soooo-
Another one I had inspiration for was Nekomaru! I was just listening to the main Metro theme, and it just made me think of an innocent cat who went to the metro to explore.
Molly is a similar reason, except with the Windmill theme…I just wanted a little mouse that lives in the windmill :)
So, really, music in general is an inspiration to me!
22. Occupation
Oh boy, I’ve got quite a few for this one-
Azure is the host of the Annual Bird Movie Award, as well as his own personal game show. He’s a con artist, though, and often scams people with his schemes.
Maru, whom I mentioned before, is an artist! She made her own art shop in the Metro where she sells original paintings, art supplies, and gives art classes! She loves it a lot! Her art even caught the attention of the Empress, who made a business deal with her — the two promote each other’s businesses now. Little does Maru know she’s working with the head of the Nyakuza…
Maosato is a kitty assassin that works for Empress! When there’s someone that crosses her the wrong way but she’s unable to get them herself for any reason, she sends him after them — and of course pays him handsomely…
Lester is my Subcon jester! His job WAS to keep the Queen happy… but when he failed to do that, she had him killed, of course. Now he just hopes to make anyone laugh at all…
Julian was a soldier before he died- a soldier of Dorma (my fanmade world which is basically a sister kingdom to Subcon) who tried to protect the king and queen, but was killed in the process and became Windghost, an ice spirit banished from the main village.
[Edit: Forgot to include Annie! I don’t have a ton about her, but she was a friendly maid who worked in the Manor. She barely managed to survive the initial blizzard caused by Vanessa.]
28. Aesthetic
Oof, this is a toughie…I don’t really think of aesthetics too often, and I don’t know how to make moodboards… I know Alex would like warm things… soft, fuzzy blankets; cocoa by the fireplace… Void would definitely like light colors, probably nature-y type things… I might have to come back to this
50. Random facts
Oh boy, gonna list as many as I can think of:
-Vince was part of a pirate crew that got shipwrecked on the coast of Mafia Town. He’s buddies with Mu!
-Stasya has been friends with Hat Kid for years. I originally planned for them to be the same alien species, but I changed my mind and made Stasya’s species a kind of ‘parasitic’ species (in terms of how some birds lay their eggs in other species’ nests) that was left with Hat Kid’s species.
[Edit: Forgot to include Stasya and Hattie became enemies after a dispute over time pieces.]
-Mewsa loved the Prince, but was hated by Vanessa for it. She died of hanahaki and now dwells the forest as a guiding spirit.
-Void is an alternate version of Hat Kid that got lost in a time rift and never found the way out. She accepted her fate and lives in the rifts now.
-Nyagare had her own business, but she lost it when she couldn’t compete with the other businesses in the Metro and went to the Empress as a last resort, but she’s very disloyal.
…and that’s all I can think of right now! Thank you so much for asking!!

Diety4Diety Roleplay [M4M, Discord, LONGTERM, Semi-lit to Advanced-lit, We Will Change the Plot as Need-Be to Better Suit You and Your Character!]
Heyo, I’m looking for someone interested in writing a high-fantasy story! I'm looking for romance and eventually a cute little family dynamic for our characters. As said in the title, I'm searching for a long-term writing partner, so if you want something different, please ignore this post. I want a roleplay that I can make part of both of our character’s original (or canon, if you will) stories. Not just me, either; I’d like for both of us to want similar things like that! It can be hard to find a roleplay partner who you really click with, and I have found that when we chat OOC alright, we look forward to the writing itself more! No, I'm not looking for anything romantic with my RP partners. I didn't know that this was something I had to clarify, but apparently it is. With that said, I don't typically write well with those who are dry texters OOC. I’m not trying to be harsh or rude by any means, but as someone who already has a difficult time reading tone over text, dry messages don't make it any easier. Besides, it’s nice knowing when someone is equally as excited as myself about writing a story! Along with that, please be up for actively planning out the plot with me! There’s nothing worse than the plotting being one-sided. Now, I'm not too nitpicky about this; as long as the effort is there, that’s all that matters. Putting zero effort into developing the story, versus genuinely coming to a blank, are very different! I can be indecisive on certain things as well, and I don't expect you to be perfect. Everybody has their flaws, myself absolutely included. I want to add that sometimes I chat differently! Honestly, it depends on how you text me. Generally, I’ll occasionally use emojis, but I stick with emoticons and tone tags! The tone tags are probably the ones I use the most; I’ve got anxiety and sometimes worry about coming off the wrong way in a text, so I just like to be clear!
For my rules and big “no”s, it’s honestly just pretty basic things that shouldn't need to be said. However, I don't want my post to get taken down, so I’ll just clearly list those things in DMs. It’s insane how I’ve learned that I do, in fact, need to clarify these types of things. I’ve been role-playing for a good while now, and had to figure out all of that the hard way. Another “no” from me is characters who are built solely for sexual roles. I don't want to write with a character who’s whole personality is about being a bottom, or even a top. There’s a big difference between an angsty character, and a whiny character. So yeah, no whiny, helpless, infantilized characters, and no characters who are “alpha-males.” One more thing is people who are overly strict about their OCs being hurt. I understand it’s common courtesy not to give somebody else’s character major injuries without warning; I always ask before I do something like that. But please keep in mind that you can expect fighting and death scenes in this story! When I write, I go over the discord text limit and usually send two to four messages, depending on how much you give me to work with, and how action-dependent the current scene is. My biggest pet peeve is bad grammar and punctuation in the roleplay. Mistakes are fine, of course, but constant run-on sentences or poor grammar make it hard to enjoy the story. As for character face claims, AI “art,” stolen art, and real people are massive “no”s from me. First of all, I hate AI and anybody who supports it; as an artist, it’s annoying seeing people call themselves “artists” for putting a prompt into a generator that steals from actual artists. Stolen art is another obvious “no,” and it should go without saying. Real people as face claims weirds me out, and it also feels lazy; taking a photo of a random person from Pinterest and calling it an original character design is odd and lazy. What I’m fine with for face claims is artwork or commissions. Hell, even picrews as a substitute are fine until you’re able to get real art! As long as the genuine effort is there, I'm good with it. I understand it likely sounds pompous for me to expect artwork for your character, but I promise you I’m not looking for skill, just effort. On the topic of art, if I'm enjoying the roleplay and have good motivation, I’ll probably make doodles (and memes, of course) of our characters as well! Just a side note: yes, I am looking for eventual N/SFW scenes as well! As long as the timing is appropriate, and it’s not an excessive amount or too often, it’s totally fine.
About my character; My guy is an elven fertility god named Ruven. He’s caring and kind at heart, but also emotionally guarded and distant from others. Really, he’s a bit shy and gets flustered easily, as stoic as he is. Ruven is a big ol’ hefty man, standing at about 6’2” and weighing 220 lbs. He’s albino and has curly hair down past his waist, as well as many cultural tattoos from a fantasy face of mine. I will say right now, he’s Desi, about thirty billion years old, has many adult kids (sounds like a lot until you think about how old he is. Don’t worry, he hates all of his past partners now.), as well as two young children, and is a transman. I’ve had people who ended up being hateful because I didn't clarify that sooner, so I'm saying it now. He also has a rough past, which could have possibly triggering themes (SA, DV, abuse, forced marriage, child death, and derealization). Along with that, I have a fantasy homebrew world that we could use as a setting! My guy is native to a country called Sahknu, where beauty standards define one’s status and wealth. Seeing as Ruven is so pale, he’s considered very ugly for people in that kingdom which has led to him struggling a bit for money. Why is a god, the keeper of the universe’s moons, financially ruined? We’ll get to that soon!
Now for the plot! This is just a general idea, and we can make changes to fit your preferences and character. There will be romance, action, drama, and angst! For this, I’m kind of going with the idea that your character is maybe a fellow god in disguise, or possibly doesn't even know that they're a god. Amnesia tropes are always fun here! Whatever describes your character best! Seriously, I’m not going to be upset about you wanting something different! We can make changes to accommodate to your guy. Anyhow—Ruven and your character have known each other for a while now, and even though he’s been dreadfully slow to open up, he’s been a nice man. So far, he’s managed to skillfully avoid any questions wanting him to disclose personal information about himself. The best that YC has gotten is a little ramble about his two young sons, and a comment saying that ‘I’m a lot older than you think.’ The two boys themselves are named Alastair and Lavan. Alastair seems to be about six years old and is clearly adopted, seeing as he shares no resemblance to his father. Lavan, however, is only a baby and shares his dad’s trait of albinism! The older boy is enthusiastic and outgoing, often happily bringing YC many self-made drawings, while the younger is the type to start wailing if Ruven isn't holding him. To cut to the chase, Ruven is only blending in amongst the mortals because he is on the run from his ex-husband, god of the sun and fire. This man, Silas, is a cruel and sadistic person out for blood. He’s arrogant and has zero empathy for the people around him, nor for anyone who may stand in his way on his path to revenge. He will absolutely try to kill YC out of blind rage as soon as he hears about their feelings for his ex, so you can expect a fun fight scene there! See, Ruven divorced him rather harshly, and he wants nothing more than to get back at him. By “harshly,” I mean that he tried to kill him. Silas isn’t exactly the type of person to handle that kind of news well, so he needed to take drastic measures to avoid being put into danger. The sun god is not someone who’s above imprisoning and torturing the ones he “loves,” so Ruven simply didn't want to go through those things again, seeing as he’s done such in the past. He used to be a kind, gold-hearted man until he was overcome by jealousy and greed. Ultimately, that’s what led to his downfall, and Ruven’s ever-growing hatred for him. Silas is quite literally hunting this man down. At some point, he’s going to come storming into whatever place Ruven and YC are in, raising hell, and making a scene. He’ll hurt and kill people, and it’ll lead to some big fight between the three characters. This part is a little more flexible—maybe Ruven is the one who is hurt and needs to be helped to safety, or maybe YC is the one! That comes down to your personal preference because I frankly cannot decide. Either way, they narrowly escape from Silas. Now that he’s angry and hunting down both Ruven and YC, they’ve decided to simply travel together while finding elsewhere to hide. Along the way, both characters can open up to one another and be there for support. Sooner or later, they begin an official relationship, maybe even consider marriage and building more family between the two of them. Just keep in mind that they’re going to be traveling for a good while, and I mean a while. I'm not trying to rush this whole family and marriage trope, just summarizing it in a way that sounds rushed, haha. Just as things are finally getting nice, they run into Silas again, and he’s even more angry than before. He’s jealous of their happiness and is intent on finishing the fight this time. Luckily for our two protagonists, they win! They kill him, one way or another, and then live their happy lives. After that, we can continue adding on things to continue the story! I'm always open for ideas!
Please let me know if you’re interested, and I hope you all have a wonderful day!

If you're still doing the "character solidifying" ask game, I'll ask 33 for Tashia (could end up as something surprising) and 42 for Junia :) I'm late to the party, but my blog troubles are over, so now I'm going nuts with asks hahaha
You're perfectly fine! I'm so glad your blog troubles are over! Please always feel free to send me as many asks as your heart desires haha. 💕
33. Do they drink? Take drugs? What about their health?
Tashia does drink on occasion! She's kind of a food and drink snob due to her culinary and restaurant hospitality training though (lol). She loves a good cocktail when she's out with friends or a perfectly paired wine with a good meal. She's never done any drugs and I couldn't see her venturing, although she did smoke weed once in high school and hated it. She's in really good health physically, mentally, and spiritually! She drinks her recommended daily water, takes her vitamins, meditates, sages her home when she feels negative energy, etc. She could probably work herself a little less though!
42. What does your character want most? What do they need really badly, compulsively? What are they willing to do, to sacrifice, to obtain?
Oh Junia... when the story takes off, I don't think Junia would know how to answer this (and I imagine she'd get irritated if confronted with this question). A combination of revenge and redemption is probably what she thinks she wants most right now. Her perspective is very, very narrow at the moment and her underlying anger is nearly getting the best of her. What she needs is a very different story: she needs acceptance, to ask for help, maybe even just a good cry honestly. She is willing to do almost anything, sacrifice almost anything for revenge... probably anything except for her dad's wellbeing (it comes back to that narrow lens she is seeing the world through right now). I'll just say that she's not involved in the Strangerville conflict to make friends. She's definitely not thinking long term or embracing any of her true desires (she isn't even taking time to do the things she really loves like making art).

( for each !! I'll introduce you to an OC )
So let me tell you about Nate, angry mess and accidental protector.
Nate did not have a very fun childhood! His family had very specific ideas about what a man should be, and Nate only measured up in all the wrong ways. He was explosively angry, which would be fine if he just had a little more control over it; instead, he kept directing it in the wrong direction, usually in defense of people his family did not understand his wanting to defend, and getting in trouble and pissing off family. He liked art. He liked to cook. (He liked to sing, which would have been acceptable on its own if his other hobbies were okay.) He was the runt of the family, and even if he won half the scraps he got in, he still managed to do it wrong, somehow.
Realizing he was bisexual and that his family would probably quite literally try to beat it out of him if he ever came out just seemed like the inevitable cherry on top by the time it happened, really.
So he's already in a shitty place, feeling like he's never good enough and dealing with rage issues, when he finally goes off to college and gets the hell away from home. Things might have eventually, slowly, started to look up for him after that if he had a little longer before he met Katherine.
Nate was 19; Kat was a few years older, and a thief. She genuinely liked Nate, which is probably worse than if she'd been purposefully fucking with him, and he was head over heels for her. It wasn't that long into the relationship that she ended up needing help, and Nate didn't even need to be asked before he volunteered.
Somewhere along the way he ended up... kind of permanently helping her out, and usually by taking care of anything with the potential to get violent. Turns out, not only could he win a whole lot of scraps with his fist, but he was damn good with a gun, too. It's probably the first time anyone ever encouraged him with something he felt like he was good for. This is totally healthy for him in every possible way, it said, lying through its teeth.
Eventually Kat ends it. Nate drinks himself into a stupor at a friend's bar while Billy, whose known Kat a lot longer and been quietly encouraging both of them to end it whenver he can because he can see she is fucking this kid up, tries to see him through it. The bar is... kind of a criminal hot spot, because Billy's mom was in that. 'line of work', for lack of a better term, and sometimes these things just happen.
("Dear, do you know anything about crime at all?" you might say dubiously at this point. "Shhh, it's fiction, and the original version of this involved supernatural shit so it didn't need to be realistic," I reply, which is a long-winded way of saying no.)
Anyway, long story short (too late), guess who eventually makes his living out of killing people for hire while his only friend despairs in the background?
Yeah, Nate's a healthy boy. By the time Kat leaves him, he's somewhere in his early twenties, extremely self-loathing, depressed and definitely not admitting it, and basically a little ball of spiky armor to everyone but the very, very small number who manage to break through it and become His People. The depression and self-loathing just keep getting worse cause he's unwilling to do anything about it and shutting the world out, and he's pretty much passively suicidal, which works for him cause his job has a pretty high likelihood of killing him if he just waits!
Most of Nate's verses start around early-mid twenties, because if something doesn't happen to him, he's not gonna make it to thirty.
In his original world, he broke his leg on a job, rented a room while recouping, and ended up tripping and falling into a D/s thing with his roommate, who had his own host of abuse. That character was my ex's, which is why it's no longer really Nate's main story, but it really illustrates the thing that would be necessary for any other world: he does much, much better when he finds someone he feels needs him. He'll start to take care of himself and try to stay alive in order to make sure someone's there to take care of them. It's really the only thing that makes him do it, after a certain point. (Billy, his bar-owner only friend, can try, and it'll help to a point, but... Billy doesn't need him. They love each other in their own weird way, but it doesn't spark that same reaction.)
And honestly? He's pretty good for people once he decides they're his. He takes care of them. He's also... a little bit possessive, but it tends to come out in the form of "must keep them safe" more than anything else, so it could be worse. He actively tries not to be a walking open wound and lash out at people when he's trying to take care of them. He's more patient than he thinks with them. He's sweet.
He does not think of himself as any of these things, even as he's actively caretaking and protecting people. As far as Nate's concerned, he's an asshole and a pretty terrible person, and he only does this if he feels like encouraging someone to leave will lead to them getting in a worse situation. Otherwise, if he found himself attaching to someone who wasn't in a place where they had nothing, he'd probably try to detach himself because he's going to fuck them up.
He's also smarter than he gives himself credit for in a lot of ways -- he's quick on his feet, he understands things pretty well, he's good at reading people. But he's not, I guess, clever is the best word I can think of to illustrate it, and he gets easily frustrated and flustered when he feels like he's around people who are smarter than him and are lording it over him or rubbing it in. (That second part is key: being smart is fine, whatever, it's the using it to put him down that fucks him up. Part of this comes from family, but part of this is very squarely Kat's fault. She had a very "you're cute, let me do the thinking" attitude towards him that rubbed him the wrong way and he loved her too much to ever say anything, and now anything that comes remotely close to it sends him shutting down.)
There are also a handful of verses where magic/supernatural shit is going on around him! That's a lot of fun, because he's almost always the only mundane person getting dragged into the shenanigans, and it's terrible entertaining. :D
I do not have art because I do not art, but I do PB, because that's just the way I started doing things, blame LJ around the time I started making OCs regularly. XD So Nate is kind of this, but scrawnier. (Bonus link to his PB singing Creep because it cracks me up.)

Pairing: Uchiha Obito x OC
4833 words
Phoenix decides to take her close friend Obito to a wedding of a schoolmate from highschool, but she makes it clear to him that it’s nothing but a platonical date. Maybe.
“Just take Obito”, Rin said, stretching her back out over the length of Phoenix’ couch in her little dormroom. “He spends time with you all the time anyway.” Phoenix paced the room, a tiny card turning around in her flat hand. It had been almost a year ago that she had been invited to the wedding of a friend from high school, a sort of lucky guy who had met his future partner already in his teenage years. She was excited for him of course, a little envious maybe, but excited. After all Asuma and her had been long term friends and his wife-to-be, Kurenai, was, as far as Phoenix could gather, a very good person. The trouble came with the invitation. People expected guests to bring partners to weddings, going alone as a woman was almost an invitation for creepy people to be all up in your business. Phoenix didnt want to go alone, so she had asked Rin, who, in her words, was “too busy right now with medical school” and “Konan”, her girlfriend.
Phoenix stopped the pacing for just a moment, throwing the envelope with the card to the table in front of her: “I can’t just take Obito”, she whined. “Taking a guy to a wedding has implications and I’m not sure I want him to think about them too much.” Rin let out a sharp breath of disapproval. “Take nobody then, coward.” Phoenix crossed her arms like a disobedient child: “You know I can’t do that.” Months ago when she had to send the Save-the-Date back she had still dated someone and thought she could take him with her, now she was alone again, but her card still had the plus one. Sure, she could have just called Asuma, apologised profusely, and asked for her additional person to be removed. But in her mind they probably had already set up everything that needed to be set up for a wedding of that size and in no way could she mess that up now. It was against her nature.
Rin leaned over the little coffee table with their tea cups on it and pulled Phoenix painfully by the ear: “Lady”, she said menacingly, “You have to make a choice. Either you go without someone and risk being embarrassed -” Phoenix chimed in: “Which I don’t want.” Rin continued “- or you just ask Obito. Just tell him that it is nothing more than a last minute date.” Phoenix squirmed a little, pulling at the seams of the jeans that she bought a little too tight with the implicit goal to lose some weight until these summer days. “Fine”, she said, reaching a conclusion finally, “I will ask him.” Rin leaned back again, not without rolling her eyes: “I can’t believe you guys aren’t dating already anyway. You hang out so often.” Phoenix bit her lip and said nothing. It was all a little more complicated than that.
Obito Uchiha was a good person, a loyal and proud person, a little goofy, a little embarrassed and easily angered, but overall he was a good guy. Phoenix had met him at her first class in university, right away, when she had heard him make a joke behind her and couldn’t help laughing at it. She knew nobody back then, all alone in the big city and basically immediately was added to him and his friend group. He was a tall guy, black hair and a circular scar shape on the right side of his face from an accident when he was a teenager. When Phoenix had finally mustered the courage to ask him about it he had just raised a brow and winked. “It was my hero moment”, he said, sounding so overly proud of himself, but not elaborating further. From what Phoenix gathered from Rin, he had saved another boy from certain death and been injured himself. Talking about a hero moment.
So they’d become fast friends, meeting regularly not only for studying but leisure time, playing video games, talking nerd stuff, the usual. Phoenix had valued their time together a lot always and noticed very quickly how much of an effort he was making to be a good friend to her, maybe too much sometimes. Obito smiled a lot around her, eyes shining each time they crossed hers - it could be intimidating. He told her he loved her red hair, he told her he loved the green eyes, and it was all a bit much sometimes. So yes, Obito would jump at the chance to go to the wedding with her, but would he understand that she meant it in a buddy-buddy, non romantic sort of way? Phoenix could not know that in advance. When she called him to ask she had therefore tried to make it very clear. “You come as my friend yeah? Just platonic besties having a nice day out.” Obito had laughed at the other end of the line: “Well, what else would it be?”
It had been relatively short notice and Phoenix had obviously been lucky that Obito still had time that specific June weekend. She got ready early enough, binding her hair up in a braid and then into a bun at the back of her head. It was supposed to get hot that day and she wanted to relieve herself of some of the heat on her neck. It was already bad enough to have red hair and light skin, which just led to red colour and sunburn, but she didn’t also need to sweat herself to death. She wore a light summer dress in mint green, which complimented her a lot and shoes with small heels. Not too much, as the wedding was going to be outside. Nobody liked falling over their feet on a green field of grass. She had decided to meet with Obito there, as the place was half way between her apartment and his and picking up the other seemed like an awful waste of gasoline, but when it was time to head out her apartment door rang anyway.
Phoenix staggered on her heels to the door, still pushing lipstick and a tiny hairbrush into her little side bag. She had no time for chit chat now, especially if it was that downstairs neighbour that always liked to tell her stories about his beautiful granddaughter. She ripped the door open without looking through it first and dropped her jaw a bit in surprise. “Hey-a '', Obito said, waving a little with his hand. She looked him up and down. He was wearing a suit made of light fabric in black and a white short-sleeved undershirt. He had the jacket thrown over his shoulder to give himself relief from the heat. His hair looked a little more clean than usual, as if he had tried to comb it for the first time. “I thought I’d come pick you up”, he smiled and winked a little. “I thought you’d get lost if you tried making your own way over there, besides, I'm coming with you as a guest anyway.” Obito didn’t know the bride or the groom. Phoenix ripped her eyes away from his torso, the outline of his abs visible ever so slightly through his shirt and nodded, a little beside herself: “Sure, alright, yeah, makes sense.“
“I’m sorry that I sprung myself on you”, Obito said, both hands on the steering wheel and eying her from the side. “I just know how you are with directions and so I felt it would probably be easier if I just drive us.” Phoenix tried very hard not to look at him, unsure why his more cleaned up look got to her all of a sudden. He looked good and yes, he had always been an outwardly good looking man, someone who other women swooned over, even though he had the scars, but in suit he just looked so specifically handsome. She blinked the thoughts out of her head. Platonic date, she told herself. It had been her own rule after all. “I could have just used Google maps or whatever”, Phoenix complained back, finally finding her own voice again. “Just because I got lost that one time…” He laughed: “I feel like I’ve seen you get lost many times.” She yawned as if she was uninterested in his fake knowledge: “Well at least I come on time if needed.” Obito was perpetually late for everything. “Hey, unfair, I came in time today.” That one time, she thought, but said nothing.
When they arrived at the ceremony site the usher greeted them with: “Wonderful day for an outdoor wedding, isn’t it?” and Obito, already sweating in the jacket he had just put on five minutes ago leaned over to Phoenix and whispered: “Maybe too good of a weather.” She could smell the cologne he had used and it was a pleasant smell. She pulled her head away from him so suddenly that he blinked in surprise. They found seats at the very end of the rows, Phoenix was not close enough to Asuma to consider sitting at the front. Instead they watched the ceremony from the end, which gave Obito ample possibilities to squirm around on his seat and complain about how warm he was. Silently and only to her of course. Phoenix hit him in the side at some point, whispering under her breath: “I’m trying to concentrate here.”
It was a hard feat however. The sun was scorching down over them, burning without mercy on their heads. Even Phoenix felt warm, despite her much lighter clothing and Obito, as well as other men, looked like he was going to pass out any second. The ceremony proceeded as normal, Asuma and Kurenai never letting their hands go off each other. It was cute, the way they were looking at each other with such devotion after what had essentially been a 10 year long relationship at this point. That one could love someone else so intensely for so long was something that Phoenix admired, always a little bit of a romantic at heart. Still, it was hot, sweat dripping down her back from her neck even though her hair was tied up, she looked at Obito again, he was clearly uncomfortable but also smiling, following along whatever was happening at the front.
One and half hours later the rings had been exchanged and first kisses were done, finally the guests could get up from their tiny plastic chairs and roam around a little, going to different places prepared with finger food and drinks. Obito grabbed Phoenix's hand immediately, pulling her up to him: “I need some air conditioning, what do you say?” Not waiting for an answer he pulled her into the little garden centre attached to the ceremony place, a tiny green house with a small bar attached behind and the bathrooms. This part of the house did have an air conditioner and so the both of them hid there, half standing on the steps to the cellar under it. “Ahh”, Obito sang, holding his head into the cool air. “I can feel like myself again.” He had left the jacket hanging, the sweat now making his shirt even more see through. Phoenix caught herself asking how she’d never noticed that he was this well trained. Without realising she moved her hand forward, touching the fabric. Obito looked down to her hand: “Huh?” and she pulled away immediately.
“Uh-uhm, I didn’t know you had two different kinds of skin textures,” she lied quickly, thinking of something Rin had told her years ago. After the accident they had patched Obito up with donated skin as opposed to his own, which was why his upper arm on the right and his upper chest looked a little differently. She could vaguely see it through the dress shirt, so she felt justified in bringing it up. “Oh, yeah?” Obito asked with an eyebrow raised. Somehow Phoenix felt that he was seeing through her weak excuse. “Yes, otherwise there wouldn’t have been enough of me.” He let his hands fly to his top button and opened it, then the second one. Her breath hitched in her throat as he took her fingers gently and placed it to his chest. “See?” he asked, moving her finger along the lines of skin meeting skin. “Those don’t only look different, they also feel different.”
Phoenix nodded quickly, pulling her fingers out of his hand. She suddenly felt very hot. This was a platonic date, she thought to herself. Those had been her terms. What the hell? Obito put his head to the side, buttoning the shirt back up: “You seem to have a red head. And I mean redder than usual. I hope you used sun block, because otherwise your face will be permanently this colour.” She took a breath to shake the intrusive thoughts out and then she looked back up at him defiantly: “What do you know, huh?” She picked him into his chest, but pulled her hand away instantly after. “I have seen you get sunburn about 50 times by now, Phoe, I’m just saying.” She pouted. How dare he use his knowledge against her. “Well at least I do tan. You just look like a pale stick all summer long.” Obito flicked his fingers against her head and grinned a little: “Keep telling yourself that.” She felt the spot on her head that he had touched like a burn.
They left the house about half an hour later, both now thoroughly cooled down. Most of the guests had moved to the part of the garden that threw more shadow, a nice, round place surrounded by flowers where tables had been set up. It was really very beautiful here and now that they weren’t directly under the sun again it also was much more bearable. Phoenix now led the way, Obito following on her toe, to find the bride and groom to officially congratulate them. Asuma was almost not recognizable without his usual cigarette in his mouth, but he was smiling from ear to ear when Phoenix hugged him. “I’m glad you came”, he said and added, nodding at Obito: “Is that your boyfriend?” She froze up for a second, whipping her head back to look at his reaction. Obito however just shrugged his shoulders and offered his hand over to Asuma: “Platonic date. She’s made that very clear.” Phoenix looked at her shoes. He didn’t have to say it so cooly. “Ahaha, yes, that sounds like Phoe”, Asuma laughed. “She is not really the commitment type.” Unfair and untrue, she thought, but the bridal couple was already whisked away somewhere else.
There was so much food to try out scattered around little plates. “My god, it was so worth it to come here with you”, Obito swooned with one look at the offer in front of him. They loaded their own plates with all kinds of goods and went back to the place where their seat cards had been placed. Someone had put out two glasses of wine for them, perfectly cooled for the warm day. Phoenix began eating and drinking, already feeling much better. There was only one other person from her highschool invited, sitting to her right. “You came without a partner, Genma?” Phoenix asked carefully. They hadn’t seen each other in years and so she didn’t want to step on his toes potentially. “I do these things alone”, he grinned, a toothpick stuck between his teeth. “Easier to meet people.” He winked at Obito. “People drink too much at weddings”, Obito nodded to agree with him. Phoenix looked from one to the other and then realised what they were suggesting. She frowned. “Well as long as you have fun.”
Obito left several times to get refills, each time he brought more wine over. Phoenix knew her tolerance level and it was soon reached, but she continued drinking anyway. “People drink too much at weddings”, Obito’s voice echoed in her mind and maybe he had a point, but she had too much fun to care. Her hands were more often than not touching his, softly, stroking over them with every joke he told or every story she ranted about. Obito never put his hand away, let her arm fall over his shoulder without any word against it. She wasn’t sure if he let it happen because it was her, because he wanted it to happen or because he saw it all as part of the friendship thing. After all, good friends were physically close all the time. Even cuddling just platonically. The way he looked at her though, when their eyes caught each other, seemed like there was something else on his mind. He watched her with complete interest and amusement and a little expectation. Like he wanted to see where it was going. Phoenix tried not to look at him too often.
“Do you wanna dance?” he asked in a half laugh, when the sun was finally setting and all the bellies had been filled with food and desert. Genma had disappeared with some other girl or whomever and they were alone next to each other. Obito had just let his eyes fall over the crowd of people and finally rested them on the few couples dancing. “I do not know how to dance”, Phoenix giggled, the wine glass moving dangerously in her hand. “Neither can I, or these people for that matter”, he pointed forward to a person shaking head and limps like they were trying to defend themselves from an attack by a swarm of bees. “Dancing is fun nonetheless”, he argued, looking back at her. She shook her shoulders a little and finished the rest of the wine. “Alright, sir, lead the way.” Obito grinned and theatrically offered her a hand, which she took. They walked to the dancefloor together.
It felt weirdly right to Phoenix to put her hands around his neck and have his hands on her hips. The music had changed to a slower song, by no means a ballad, but slow enough that dancing close together wasn’t odd if you’d watch it from the outside. She was thankful to have an excuse to flush herself against him, let her nose pull in the scent of him and his fragrance. So they swayed along, barely exchanging words. “You know I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to come with me or not”, she said finally, trying to keep her legs moving even with the alcohol clogging her brain. “I just didn’t know if you’d take it the right way, you know?” Obito looked down from under his black hair, one eyebrow raised just slightly. “Well I feel like you made it very clear to me on the phone when you called me about it, considering you went on and on for twenty minutes about how it's definitely not a date.” Phoenix blushed slightly, embarrassed at the memory. “I- I guess so”, she said.
“I’m just abiding by your rules”, he continued, stretching his neck out a little defensively. The question if he’d like to throw out the rules she’d set up burned on her tongue, but instead she said nothing. “She is not the commitment type” Asuma had said about her and maybe that was true to some extent. Admitting to feelings could be difficult for Phoenix at times. She was clumsy about them, afraid to be hurt, afraid to lose a good friend. What would happen if they actually started dating and it would not work out? Obito was way too important to be “wasted” like this. She put her head against his chest just for a second, because he was pulling away, a large smile on his face. “A photobox!” he yelled, pointing with a finger. “Ah what?” she asked, still hung up on her thought spiral. “Let’s just go. Follow me.” Obito took her hand and pulled her after him, something he’d done before many times, but which somehow felt so intimate now.
Phoenix saw quickly enough what had gotten him so very excited. A photobox had been put up while they’d been eating. A little wooden structure with an automatic camera. There were all kinds of utensils around to wear for a picture and they’d come out immediately. Phoenix had never been to a wedding before, but she’d seen pictures of friends doing something similar at one party or another. “I love those things,” Obito grinned. “I love wearing disguises.” Phoenix heard herself giggle again: “You surely do like a good mask or two.” Obito was the known king of halloween, dressing up in the most creative costumes, all masked. He was good at absolutely melting into the character he was portraying and it was a mystery that he was not a theatre kid. Obito quickly picked the batman mask on the rack as if it had called to him. Phoenix put on white cat ears and when she turned to Obito he said: “Very cute” and touched the soft ears. “Very handsome”, she replied and poked his chest. She meant it.
They went into the photobox, there wasn’t that much space in it so they had to sit side by side. “Alright, there are four photos per strip, so make it count, Uchiha”, Phoenix said, waving a finger to the button of the machine. Obito laughed back, pulling a little at the ears on her head: “You don’t have to tell me twice, miss.” Phoenix hit the button and they got in pose. Peace sign, dab, Phoenix pulled Obito’s cheek and then for the last picture, he let his arm fall around her shoulder and pulled her close. She was so surprised by this that a little squeal left her mouth. “I think we got it”, he said happily after the light flashed for the last time and he bent forward to see the result being printed. Phoenix could hear her heart in her ears, a warm blush on her face.
“Obito”, she said slowly, trying to regain her breath. The other still was bent to the side to pick the pictures. “Hm?” he replied. “I-If the rules were not in place. Like, if we’d pretend there are no rules at all - lets say this box in itself is a lawless land. What would you do next?” Phoenix let out a sharp breath and she couldn’t quite believe she’d said it out loud. He moved his head back into the box, letting his dark eyes run over her thoroughly. “You mean the rules?” he asked carefully, not letting his eyes off her face. She looked away, not able to hold his gaze for very long now, embarrassed to have even said anything. “I-I -yeah- I mean, you know what, ignore it.” She fumbled with her fingers and talked quickly until he cut her off. “You say this box is a lawless land and the rules do not apply?” She looked up at him again. “That, yea, that is what I’m saying.” Obito stretched again and then grinned at her. “Let’s take some more pictures.”
He hit the button this time and immediately slung his arm around her. “Come closer,” he said, pulling her legs over his lap to wrap her up even tighter. “W-Why-” Phoenix began but he just nodded to the camera. The first flash went off. “Next”, he said, pulling her head down so it was against his shoulder. He put his chin on top of it. Flash. Phoenix could feel her insides run hot with nerves and excitement about what he would do next. “Now, now”, Obito mumbled and grabbed her chin to move it up so he could bury his head in Phoenix’ neck. “Ah, wait, Obi-” The flash went off again. Only one picture left, she thought and forgot how to breathe. The hand on Phoenix's chin trembled a little, but then he pulled her in and did exactly what she expected, maybe hoped, he’d do in this rule free box. The kiss was tender, nothing more than soft lips touching each other. Phoenix could taste the beer he had been drinking on his and undoubtedly he could feel the wine on hers. The flash went off, but they didn’t let go of each other, pulling away for a breath and going in again. The sweetness flooded her brain, engulfing her completely.
It was Obito that moved backwards first, the smile on his face wide. “Time to check the pictures, don’t you think?” Phoenix felt like she’d just been ripped out of a deep sleep, not yet ready to give up the close proximity to him, but he had already detangled himself from her and stepped out of the little structure. “Oh, wonderful”, he laughed and Phoenix finally followed him too. “God, no”, she threw a look at the pictures. She looked embarrassed and flustered on all of them, always side eyeing Obito. There was only the last one, the kiss, when she seemed fully relaxed, eyes closed, melted into him. She had to avert her eyes, it seemed too intimate to see herself doing it. “Can I keep those?” he asked in a friendly manner. “As a memory to hold on to?” She turned and looked at him. “Memory?” He put the pictures in his pants pocket: “Well we will leave lawless land behind us now, so I will need the memory. Oh- cupcakes!”
Phoenix watched him walk away and for a moment remained frozen in place. It was easy to deny her own feelings, keep a distance from someone in case of hurt or hurting, but it was much harder to deny them once they’d been captured on permanent pictures like that. If she’d let Obito drive her home now and they would go back to being the casual study-buddy, video game friends, then her true feelings would always be there for the world to see on this four picture strip in his pants pocket. There was no use in running from it really, no use lying to herself. She panicked a little about the revelation. How to approach the situation that she had messed up in the first place? After all, she had been responsible in talking endlessly about how they were and always would be platonic friends only.
She caught up with Obito at the buffet, he had just stuffed his face with a chocolate cupcake that in any other situation would have looked delicious to Phoenix, but she was too nervous to eat now. “Obito, can I chat with you for a second somewhere quieter?” He turned his head, cheeks still stuffed with cake. “Hmmsure”, he mumbled under his breath and she lead the way back into the greenhouse, back to the stairs to the cellar, the place they had hid in earlier in the day. The bar was now outside and so nobody was around except for the occasional footsteps of guests trying to visit the bathroom. Obito followed dutifully, finishing what he was eating. Phoenix did not dare look over her shoulder at him, didn’t dare wonder if he suspected something.
“So”, she said finally, facing him with her back against the wall. He was leaning against the wall on the opposite side, one step below her so that their height was matching up. “The rules, my stupid rules…” He cut her off with a sigh: “It’s not like I would do it again, you know, if you’re not interested.” He didn’t say what “it” was, but she had a pretty good idea. “No, ah, I fucked this up royally, didn’t I”, Phoenix ranted, more to herself. Obito widened his eyes in interest, but he did not say anything. “I was too guarded, okay? I admit to it. I like hanging out with you, Obito, I like what we have and I was scared I'd destroy that.” He nodded as if he’d known all of that. “So yes, I was scared. Not good with commitment as Asuma said.” She took a deep breath. “But now I would love to just, just, get rid of all of that. Ignore my own rules and - let’s just say we are here on a date date, not platonically. I-If you want of course.”
Obito laughed, not mean spirited, but rather relieved, maybe happy. Then he sighed. “Finally. I’ve been waiting all day. Not even all day, months. So many months.” The red in her face clashed with the red in her hair. “First of all”, he took her hand and entangled his fingers in hers. “Second of all, I agree with everything you just said, including your proposition.” Phoenix felt a little light in her head. “Lastly”, he said and stopped for a moment. “Lastly?” she asked, waiting for him to continue. Instead of speaking he took his free hand and pulled at her dress so that they moved closer to each other.
They kissed again and it was even better than the first time.
