Cassandra Pentaghast (Dragon Age: Inquisition)

Cassandra is the Right Hand of the Divine, essentially the sword arm of the fantasy pope. She's also a member of the Seekers of Truth, whose job is to root out corruption within the church... Currently with less than excellent results and methods. When she finds out about the corruption within her own order, she purges the whole thing because she still believes in its ideals of truth, honor, and justice. She also kicks off the events of the game by leading an investigation into the Divine's death and can possibly become the Divine at the end! By and by she's an incredible warrior with a good heart who lives by her creed to the best of her ability, even when (especially when) it hurts to do it. She's not perfect, but she's willing to learn from her mistakes. Also, she's really into trashy romance and is really embarrassed when anyone finds out. I love her so much.

Alain:

Pokémon the Series: XY gives us Alain. He is a good looking loner with has a pessimistic personality but is extremely passionate about what he does, thus many people show him admiration. However, he has numerous flaws that makes him easy to be manipulated while also driving away the people who really care for him.

Mike Jenkins:

A modern example in John Ringo's Paladin of Shadows series: Petty Officer Mike "Ghost" Harmon, AKA Mike Jenkins, a former US Navy SEAL medically retired due to multiple injuries who, through a series of coincidences and perfectly-rational decisions in response to them, thwarts three major terrorist attacks in the course of a few months and becomes the millionaire lord of a clan of modern-day Vikings in the mountains of Georgia (the country, not the state). Mike (who constantly reminds those around him that he's not a good man) unabashedly considers himself a rapist at heart but holds himself to a strict Warrior Code while channeling his baser urges into heavy BDSM. Any time he comes across a man who doesn't restrain his darker nature, things get nasty. At the same time, he often shows a surprisingly compassionate side, especially to girls that he and his Keldara warriors have rescued from sex traffickers.

NAH cuz lemme talk abt Caviar's Martial Arts Tournament

I don't think a lotta people realize just how big of a deal the martial arts tourney' was. It was Captain Caviar vs the Republic's Paladins- Mind you, these paladins were raised in luxurious, abundant homes and trained in a prestigious knight academy. And they were ALL humbled by a single man raised from the slums.

Reminder that this was a martial arts tournament, meaning there would have been no use of weapons whatsoever, so the excuse that "Caviar had a gun" falls flat. This mfer singlehandedly embarrassed the Republic's knight force with just his bare hands. And the elders were unsurprisingly upset, even going as far as to wanting him LITERALLY DEAD for it.

What makes this whole thing even better is the fact that I'm pretty sure Caviar knew what the fuck he was doing. It's made clear to us that the Paladins never did their jobs in protecting ALL of the Republic, meaning they never cared once about the Lower City/Choco Mud Town. We know this because of what he says in Odyssey after being told that guards had taken a cookie with a white mask away in the Lower City.

Knowing this further shows us how much he genuinely cares for his people, as he was willing to establish and found his own Navy to protect what the Paladins wouldn't. This mfer climbed from ground up to gain enough status all for the sake of the protection of his own people. I don't think you could get any more selfless than that.

Hubristic Assholes Tourney Round 1 Part 3a

Erin Ruunaser (Aurora) vs Manfred von Karma (Ace Attorney)

Erin

So in Aurora, there was this ancient, magical storm that been going on for centuries. The further one went in, the more likely they were to die either due to the hostile environment or the massive amounts of ambient magic would begin to basically destroy their body from the inside. Erin looked at this and basically went “yes, but I’m built different” and went inside with zero backup. Now, technically speaking, he is in a way built different as he is one of the only people in the world who can control all of the six (known) magical elements that make up the Storm, so he was able to bypass all of the obstacles and make it to the center. When he got there, he unknowingly activated a trap that destroyed the Storm and caused him to become possessed by an eldritch star-eating dragon, whose physical body is still stuck in the core of the planet and wants to use his new vessel to free himself. Whoopsie! Now, Erin is searching for a way to sever his link with the dragon without his buddies from the Academy finding out. Also he’s being hunted by Paladins now. Fun times; At one point, he tries to learn more about the Void Dragon by accessing a Paladin library. The receptionist doesn’t let him in because he isn’t a Paladin, and he basically goes full Karen on her (he literally asks to speak with her supervisor/manager). Then he learns that one of his friends will be held prisoner for as long as they plan to stay in the city (long story). Erin still plans to stay for as long as he needs to get information on the evil Void Dragon. Said dragon literally appears in his dream that night to tell him he’s being kind of an asshole. Also despite all of this, Erin still isn’t entirely sure if the Light Dragon worshiped by the Paladins is even real. He knows the Void Dragon is real, but the opposite still seems like a stretch I guess. Also the receptionist from earlier is one of the Paladins currently hunting him. He needs to be shoved in a locker. I need to shove him in a locker.

Travels through a famously dangerous magic storm just because he can, fixes some kind of broken magic rune circle that is causing the storm, getting possessed by the evil Void Dragon in the process; He once tried to talk his way into a restricted library and got shot down hilariously

He tries to explore to the center of this volatile magic storm that no one's ever gotten to the center of, and immediately gets possessed by the primordial void dragon that had been waiting for someone exactly like him to try to get to the center of the storm. At the time of writing this he's about to try to cross an ocean on an experimental never-before-seen type of boat, which i suspect will only go well and will have no problems :)

Ventures into a giant magical storm, declaring that the only reason no one has ever reached the center is because he hasn't tried to yet. Reaches the center and promptly decides to switch off the magical pedestal creating the storm, because he can, and gets possessed by a star-eating eldritch dragon god for his trouble.

Literally the first thing he does in the comic is go explore a highly dangerous magical storm just because he's currently the one person in the world who can manipulate all six traditional magic elements and is therefore the only person who can explore the storm safely. At its center, Erin discovers a cracked pedestal with the elemental runes on it and deduces it to be the cause of the storm, then just stops the storm without a second thought, which is notable for two reasons: 1. By the time the audience gets this info, we've already seen a town whose infrastructure depends on the strong winds the storm produces, which is obviously no longer viable 2. The storm itself turned out to have been a trap set by an ancient evil star-eating dragon trapped in the center of the planet which has now possessed Erin. He's actually incredibly booksmart and puts that knowledge to very impressive use sometimes, but he is also known to be impulsive, overcome with confusion when presented with a thing he doesn't know about already, and of course, hubristic. (he does demonstrate a pretty well-aligned moral compass when it counts, though) In summary, I really like him because his combination of character traits makes him flip-flop wildly between "exactly as awesome as he thinks he is" and "hopelessly cringefail" depending on the situation and it never stops making sense. He's so smart but he's so stupid.

(Spoilers) This dude walked into a massive magical storm that literally nobody lived long enough to see the center of, all while gloating about how smart he is, then touched a highly suspicious symbol and got himself possessed by basically Satan. He then proceeds to lecture Not-Satan on how he’s the smart one on this team and that he better sit down and shut up unless he wants to be killed by his MANY enemies. And the strange part is that it worked; The fandom gave him the nicknames “Icarus” “Sicktats McHubris” and “Pompous Nitwit” and I think that says a lot about him

Manfred

During a trial against Miles Edgworth’s dad Gregory Edgeworth Manfred von karma gets a penalty he does not lose the trial however he considers this penalty an egregious enough crime that he must kill Gregory Edgeworth. And he does however due to Miles throwing a gun he gets shot in the shoulder causing him to take his one and only vacation to recover. However he doesn’t get the bullet removed to avoid questioning as to why he has a bullet in his shoulder. For 15 years he gets away with it (miles doesn’t know it was him it’s a whole thing) but then just a few days before the statute of limitations is up on the murder of Gregory Edgeworth he decides to with the help of the Yani Yogi the man originally accused of murdering Gregory Edgeworth frame Miles for the murder of the defense attorney that got Yani off with an insanity plea (which is why Yani hates the man) then after it’s proven Yani is the murder Miles confesses to killing his dad and in Manfred’s attempt to convict Miles for that it’s proven that he killed Gregory. How? Phoenix uses a metal detector to detect the bullet in his shoulder; The thing that kills me about Manfred “I killed a man because he gave me a penalty in court” Von Karma is that he absolutely could’ve gotten away with it if he didn’t try to get revenge on Miles. He was so confident that he would get Miles convicted if not for the murder of Robert Hammond than for the murder of his own father. He was so confident because there’s no way this attorney with only 3 cases under his belt will beat him not when he tased him and that weird girl tagging along with him in the evidence room preventing him from getting any evidence on the DL-6 case except he didn’t prevent them he didn’t even bother to check because that weird girl ended up holding onto a bullet. the bullet that killed Gregory a bullet they could use to for comparison to see if a bullet was shot from the same gun a bullet like the one in Manfred’s shoulder. The bullet he didn’t have removed to avoid the question of “where did that bullet in your shoulder come from”

Welcome to the Varemundt lore-dump that everyone has been dying to read I'm sure. Enjoy:

Varemundt Silversong was born to a human mother and an elven father in a village of little note somewhere in Elturgard. He was named after his grandfather, who in turn was named after his grandfather, so he got it into his head pretty early that Varemundt was an old man's name and he prefers to go by Varre instead. 

Shortly after the birth of his child, Varre’s father came to the realization that he would vastly outlive his wife and son and he found himself unable to handle the bleak prospect, which led him to abandon his family. This broke his mother’s heart and she soon grew cold towards the boy who came to look more and more like his father with each passing year. By the time he reached the appropriate age of twelve to undergo training as a Hellrider she had him shipped off to Elturel to do just that. 

After this he spent the most significant part of his life serving as a Hellrider and dutifully defending the people of Elturgard. But his list of heroics is far too plentiful to recount here. (You try coming up with like 80 years of good guy paladin deeds, I dare you.) 

When he wasn’t busy doing all that. Varre was rather fond of competing in various tourneys (and by fond of I mean he got absolutely abnormally competitive about it.) It was during one of these Tourneys that he made the acquaintance of a fellow paladin named Theodoric and fell absolutely and hopelessly in love with him. Though Varre beat Theodoric at housing he was rather impressed by the younger knight’s prowess and he asked him out for a drink after their bout was over, which led to them becoming best friends eventually. Unfortunately for Varre, he was unable to gather the courage to confess his true feelings to his friend and he had to watch him get married and pines after him for the better part of 30 years. 

During this time Varre also began to grow discontent with his life of constant strife and he decided it was time to leave the Hellriders for good. This, however, was not such an easy endeavor since being a Hellrider is supposed to be a job for life.  Those determined to resign anyway were given one final “Impossible” task. In his case this task involved slaying an ancient dragon. Hardly impossible, or so he thought, until he realized the creature he had been tasked with slaying was in fact no evil monstrosity, but a golden dragon who had simply been a thorn in the eye of his superiors for defending s group of nearby settlements that they had long sought to “place under Elturel’s Guard”. 

Though he returned to Elturel victorious, he was forever scarred by his selfish act and the oath of devotion he had sworn many years before had now been forever broken. 

As was the custom, he was then exiled from the city and named a heretic in the eyes of Helm for abandoning his post. 

After this he spent a few short years as a farmer. This blissful pastoral life did not last however as Varre realized there would always be people out in the world who were in need of his protection, leading him to pick up his sword once more and travel the land to help those in need.

Eventually, out of a desire to reunite with some old friends, his path led him back to Elturel just in time for the descent. Unsurprisingly, a lot of bad things happen to him in Avernus, the most significant of which is having to watch Theodoric die in his arms. This makes him swear an oath of vengeance and rampage through the hells, killing every devil in sight until the city is saved.

So in the downtime I also did some space marines too!

For starters, I painted up some terminator characters. The fancy chaplain tarentus and a print of Calisterius from the space hulk board game. I used mostly contrast on these dudes, but they came out pretty good.

Then I got a hold of the new Commander Dante!

To prep for a tourney I sped paint some sanguinary guard and terminators.

And I also for a hold of some recast crimson paladins. Man these guys are grear, but their swords and so wonky.

There are a few other projects that I dont have photos for at this moment that will be in a future post.

I just think it would be fun to pit various specific paladins against paladins voters have played in D&D (or other RPGs). Well, probably specific *paladin*...I don't see this entry getting very far...

Next up for introductions is the Dragon Bois!!! 🐲🥳 

On the left is our company’s Fighter, Zagan, played by our friend Randy. He plays this character like he plays every MMO, only caring about combat, money, and gear. No backstory, not much roleplay, but absolutely slays in 1v1 tourneys and brought home the bank. 💰 

On the right is the Paladin, Luzira, played by my husband (Luis). 💘  Rather than being a regular Paladin, devoted to their deity, he made a pact with the God Tyr to prove himself worthy to become a god himself. So everywhere we go he’s always trying to convince the peasants to join his cult. 😂 

To make their Dragonborn race in Sims 4, I used the Furry Mod from savestatecomic, and also this Scale Skin Detail from minnmon on DeviantArt! Fortunately, these mods were not effected by the werewolf update at all! (and thank goodness ‘cuz the Furry Mod isn’t getting updated anymore)

1 - Are you named after anyone?

Ruby: All of my family's names all have alliteration in them! I'm Ruby Raleigh, and both my moms have pretty alliterative names too!

Cobalt: I don't think so. It's just Cobalt Azure Zaffre. I don't really think I named Turquoise in any particular way; it just seemed like a suitable alias.

Ruby: ...You have a middle name???

Cobalt: ...Yes??

Ruby: ...Dude, NO one has a middle name!

Cobalt: Well I do. "Azure".

Ruby: But that's AZURE and you're BLUE??

Cobalt: Ruby. I have heterochromia. I'm BUILT DIFFERENT.

2 - When was the last time you cried?

Ruby: Pshh, when I was like, 5! I... accidentally crushed a caterpillar. :(

Cobalt: D-Don't ask.

3 - Do you have kids?

Ruby: HELL no. I'm fresh into tourney fighting! I don't have the time to take care of kids. ...Also I'm pretty bitchless.

Cobalt: ...No, but it'd be nice to have one. Someday.

4 - Do you use sarcasm?

Ruby: Only when someone is being a little BITCH. When they DESERVE IT.

Cobalt: It's a little hard to tell. I'm veryyy bad at making it obvious. So I don't really try too often.

5 - What's the first thing you notice about people?

Ruby: I AM the person you notice. NOTICE ME. PAY ATTENTION TO ME. I just like talkin' to people!!

Cobalt: Their eyes. I want to know what a person's intention's are first, before interacting with them. It's very difficult to be comfortable within crowds.

6 - What's your eye color?

Ruby: Azure blue! My soul color is red though, so my eyes glow red with strong emotion! Or Paladin powers. 'Cause that's a thing I have to handle now.

Cobalt: ...It's complicated.

Ruby: ...Why would it be complicated?

Cobalt: My eyes are naturally turquoise, but that's not my soul color. Sometimes they'll glow cyan, sometimes they glow blue. Sometimes they glow both. So in total, I can have four different eye colors.

Ruby: ...Your eyes are strobe lights.

7 - Scary movies or happy endings?

Ruby: I love scary movies! Me and Turqbalt used to watch horror movies together, but he'd get too scared. So I stopped.

8 - Any special talents?

Ruby: I love parkour! I'm already SUPER fast as a hare fighter, so doing parkour is my daily excersize!

Cobalt: I'm like a hueman freezer. My ice powers make my body naturally cold, so lots of my friends will just tell me to hold their drinks for them so they'll still be cold.

9 - Where were you born?

Ruby: Right here in Neocity! Born and raised!

Cobalt: It's one of the border cities between Celestia and the Hyperion Republic. We moved to Neocity when I was about 8.

10 - What are your hobbies?

Ruby: Music-making! I'm pretty good at guitar and ukelele, I have some experience in piano... me, Blaze, Rina, and Turq used to play gigs at the Silver Spade! We get free drinks there too! ...None of us are of age yet, so I typically just get coffee from there.

Cobalt: I collect knives and swords.

11 - Have you any pets?

Ruby: No :( Me and Jay are too lazy to cook, let alone own a pet.

Cobalt: he’s so cute it’s shiro my dog being such a cute baby prince 😍 he’s a samoyed!

12 - What sports do you/have you played?

Ruby: Track! Also, technically tourney fighting is a sport I guess?

Cobalt: Yeah, I'm not one for typical sports. Tourney fighting is a little more dramatic.

13 - How tall are you?

Ruby: 5'9!

Cobalt: 5'11.

Ruby: Jay, Blaze, and Tarum are all 6'0! Rose is 4'11 though.

Cobalt: Tiny hands... my only weakness.

14 - Favorite subject in school?

Ruby: I'm assuming we can't say "field training".

Cobalt: Yeah, no. Field training's basically tournament fighting beta.

Ruby: I'm not much of the school type. Cs get degrees! Hmm... Maybe art? I enjoy designing clothing for all my friends, and my moms are pretty supportive in all my creative endeavors!

Cobalt: ...Lunch I guess.

15 - Dream job?

Ruby: Tourney fighting, obviously!

Cobalt: Well, I thought it was tournament fighting. I think. But then I got my arm cut off, so I had to stop for a while. Lots of people can be mean to champion tournament fighters... I'm not sure if I should be coming back. Can I even come back? I mean, I lost a bit of my lightning powers... God, I wouldn't even know-
