Pattern Skills
Better names for precisely talking about several things lumped under "pattern recognition":
Pattern Identification: given something, identifying the patterns in it, if any. The umbrella term.
Pattern Matching: taking a pattern, and checking if something matches that pattern.
Pattern Recognition: recognition memory, specific to patterns.
Pattern Recall: recall memory, specific to patterns.
Pattern Generation: coming up with new possible patterns.
Pattern Creativity: how easily pattern generation comes to you; how many patterns you can generate, how quickly; how varied or novel your pattern generation is.

My Great Aunt's cat! He's a funny fellow. Can't sheathe his claws! ..he's also got a bad habit of being in low quality photos. He's a fine fellow with a curious tabby pattern! Amber-tortoiseshell suggested abundism back in June. I want to hear your opinon! :]
Last photo taken before I petsat him, keep cats indoors!!
this blurry specimen looks like a black classic tabby with low white! my own cat has a similar effect with the very thick stripes making him look darker, which is similar to abundism!
#not sure if abundism counts as simply a pattern variation or something with actual genetic backing#so im only saying similar. lol#ask#identification#tabbies#black tabby#black classic tabby#low white#mod jay

So the lady who gave me her knitting supplies, also decided to gift me her sewing supplies, which is one amazing news after the other. After going trough everything have found a few things I want to share with you, and also to see if anyone could identify some paticular things.
First, the most adorable patterns I've ever seen:

I melted seeing the picturebook one, that is so lovely I might just hang this piece of fabric on the wall to make my space whimsy and magical. I sadly don't have more than these pieces but I love them.
Second, and we're still in the adorable setting, this unfinished gobelin of a puppy with a butterfly!

There is no thread or tools to finish this, so I can't, but I might just put it on the wall as is, I can barely tell it's unfinished since the cuteness and the adorableness are well rounded already.
Ok now this is something I would like identification on. I found this large piece of paper, and it has a pattern of a woman on a lion with a mermaid-like tail:

This is big, like a wall painting, and I assume it's a pattern for some kind of thread art or gobelin. Underneath there's explanation for what symbol is to be used as which color thread. Even though it looks like pixels, it's symbols on every little square. On the left upper corner it says: 'Nachdruck verboten' which means 'reproduction prohibited'. But it's paper, I don't think you could use a needle and a thread on it, so it's just a sketch that's supposed to be copied somewhere?
It doesn't say which year this is from, there's nothing on the back. But it feels like a historical document almost, it looks very old, a part of me is itching to take it to a museum.
Okay and the final unidentifiable thing, and this is haunting me:

What the hell is that. It's made from itchy sparkly fabric, definitely not for wearing, I'd say it's for being hanged somewhere but it has two asymmetrical holes on top, for what? Why does this object exist. What is the point. Is it a part of something else. Please give me information.

Late diagnosed autistic and waking up:
When I first found out I was autistic last year, I saw the funny mentions and tiktoks about 'wow patterns everywhere.'
Patterns! All over!
I laughed. I got it, but thought it was sort of a light hearted joke. Just an autie joke yeah?
Nah.
No. My dudes.
There are patterns everywhere. In everything. And I feel like my entire life purpose is to find the why of the pattern. THERE ARE PATTERNS IN FUCKING EVERYTHING AND MY BRAIN IS WIRED TO SEEK THEM OUT.
The more I lean into myself, the louder they get. I sorta love it.

The moth orchid (Phalaenopsis sp.) is what comes to mind when most people think of an “orchid”. This genus has many different species that have been hybridised to produce a myriad of different colours and patterns. The genus comes from Southeast Asia and Australia, where it naturally grows as an “epiphyte” on the branches of trees.

i was wondering how are are the clans identified? Did they have sigils like in medieval Europe or are they identified by their chitin lines?
Thank you.
No problem! Here's what I've come up with:
Clans are identified a few different ways. Most Clans have unique chitin patterns - whorls and/or straight lines, ridged brows or smooth, heavier expressions of chitin or lighter, and so on, but they also have emblems which date back to the warring periods before the Unification.
The Hrisvalar Clan, for example, uses a stylized Hrisal blade as an emblem, which serves as a display of martial skill. They also have distinctive whorls at their temples and their facial chitin has a unique pattern. Clan Sannev are recognizable even from a distance for their bulkier, heavily muscled builds and heavy chitin expressions, and their emblem is a geometric design representing the Clan's widespread presence across Andoria. Clan Tha'an has both distinctive, scale-like chitin that more closely resembles fish scales than most other Clans' chitin does, and they have an emblem depicting a steel scale weight, representing their mercantile roots.
Nearly every major Clan has an emblem, and many of the minor ones as well, but all Clans have distinctive chitin patterns which are passed down genetically. Interestingly, children born to a Clan by a quad who do not possess the family chitin pattern (such as children from the quad's secondary couple rather than the primary) are not considered less or viewed as separate from the Clan, which might surprise outsiders. This is partly helped by the fact that chitin patterns are not identical from generation to generation, the same way that a family with of individuals with a shared eye colour may not all share the same exact shade but will instead have subtle differences in shade and iris pattern. The overarching traits are what is looked for, rather than exact matches.
Many Andorians will wear clothing - particularly leather pieces but also embroidered cloth - which has been tooled or embellished with patterns that mimic their own chitin patterns, or the patterns of the Clan they belong to. This is both a statement of affiliation and, shall we say, advertising on a more personal level.
Very few Andorians will hide their Clan affiliations, as they are taught from a young age that loyalty to one's Clan comes second only to loyalty to the Emperor and Andoria herself. There are times where a degree of anonymity is desired, certainly, and steps are usually taken to obfuscate the visibility of one's chitin pattern in those cases, but it's very unusual.
Cheers!

adorable beetle bubby. my first thought was some sort of predatory beetle (like tiger beetle adjacent) because of the overall body shape, but now I'm not so sure.
#i'm flumoxed#looked through a site that has a collection of beetles in nfld#nothing matched#if i go for patterning with the shape: the closest are longhorn/tree-eater beetles#but they all have prominent antennae which this bubby doesn't#maybe some sort of stinkbug? clicker beetle? don't know#boogs#buggies#buggie boos#i mean all that said i just realized this might not even be an adult#and could be some instar beforehand#which would make up for appearance discrepencies#bug identification is so wild#might not even be a beetle! fffffff#newfoundland insects#newfoundland beetles#newfoundland arthropods#arthropod photography

I went into the bathroom to refill my brita pitcher at the sink and Lucy was in the cat basket and noticed she had something...
Me: Hi Lucy!
and then, "I didn't put that there, that's not yours!"
At some point she stole a pair of underwear from the laundry pile about a foot away and dragged it into the basket to roll on.
A picture of the criminal:

#cat#cat thief#her name is Lucy#and usually is her brothers trying to steal or move things#she's a himalayan#but i have no idea what specific point/color pattern she falls under#shes very pretty and pink and gray over a mostly whiteish undercoat her ears are pink and gray and brownish and white#her mom was a seal point and her dad was a lynx point#most of her siblings are seal point patterns#her littermates are flame and cream and seal#one of her brothers has green eyes though and none of the identification pages I've looked through has that
