Mattias Clymer is Silently Leading a $70M Movement That’s Changing Agent Lives
Tumblr media
The Powerful Hidden Restlessness No One Saw Coming Before anyone knew his name in the real estate world, Mattias Clymer was showing up to work each day in the city school system. On paper, he was helping kids as a behavior specialist, using his psychology degree from Eastern Mennonite University to guide students through their challenges. It was noble work. It was steady work. But deep inside, Mattias was restless. He wasn’t chasing luxury or status. What he wanted was something few people talk about when they’re stuck in jobs that don’t light them up. He wanted ownership. Ownership of his time. Ownership of his income. And ownership of his future. The truth was, no amount of good intentions could fill the growing gap between what he was doing and what he knew he was capable of building. Every day he walked into those schools, a small voice whispered that life could look different. He just didn’t know how to begin. Not yet. One Risky Leap of Faith Changed Everything When Mattias made the decision to leave his job and become a REALTOR, it wasn’t a smooth transition wrapped in confidence. It was a leap fueled by quiet desperation and a vision he couldn’t quite explain. He didn’t have a safety net or a guaranteed path. What he had was a hunger to stop trading time for a paycheck and start building something that would last. In 2014, with zero deals under his belt and no name in the industry, he stepped into the world of real estate. The learning curve was brutal. Rejection came fast. Confidence came slow. But every conversation, every showing, every lost lead was fuel. Mattias didn’t just want to sell homes. He wanted to understand the game, master it, and eventually rewrite it for people who felt just like he once did. Learning the Hard Way, Winning the Smart Way Mattias didn’t hit success overnight. The early years were filled with missteps, empty open houses, and deals that fell through at the last second. But instead of quitting, he got smarter. He started blogging through his platform, the Harrisonburg Homeowner, not to sell himself, but to teach. He understood that if people trusted him with their learning, they’d eventually trust him with their listings. In 2017, he took things further by creating an investment club. He wanted to surround himself with people who were doing the kinds of deals he wanted to do. The club wasn’t about showing off. It was about sharing what worked and what didn’t. He saw too many people making the same mistakes he had made early on, and he wasn’t interested in gatekeeping success. For Mattias, every stumble became a building block. And every lesson made him a better investor, agent, and leader. Breaking $70 Million by Breaking the Rules As Mattias grew more confident, he stopped playing by the traditional rules of real estate. He wasn’t just listing homes and chasing commissions. He was analyzing deals, studying market trends, and flipping properties that most agents never would have touched. He didn’t see houses as transactions. He saw them as tools for freedom. Over time, Mattias built a personal portfolio worth over $3 million, including single-family rentals and mobile homes. He and Erica didn’t outsource the work. They self-managed every property, learning through real problems and real consequences. He flipped multiple properties, each one sharpening his instincts and increasing his control over the outcome. But the numbers weren’t the win. The win was the shift. He was no longer just working for clients. He was building a future for his family, piece by piece. The $70 million in sales didn’t come from following a script. It came from rewriting one. The Partnership That Fueled the Vision Behind every smart deal and strategic decision was something even more powerful—partnership. Erica Clymer wasn’t just Mattias’s wife. She was his anchor, his sounding board, and eventually, his co-creator. With her background in therapy and holistic wellness, she brought a perspective that grounded their business in something deeper than profits.
Together, they managed their investments, raised their three children, and made time for movie nights and travel, even while growing their empire. Erica helped make sure the life they were building didn’t just look good on paper but felt good in real time. Their shared values shaped how they approached everything from managing tenants to planning the future. It wasn’t always easy. There were seasons of stress, of juggling too much, of wondering if the sacrifice was worth it. But they kept showing up—for the business, for their kids, and for each other. That commitment became the foundation of a life most people only imagine. From Agent to Mentor: The Birth of The REI Agent Podcast As the wins piled up, Mattias felt a shift again. Selling houses and closing flips was no longer enough. He had figured out how to turn a career into a calling—but most agents were still stuck in survival mode, burning out while chasing leads and never building anything of their own. He knew that had to change. That’s when The REI Agent Podcast was born. Co-hosted with Erica, the show wasn’t just about real estate. It was about the life real estate could create. Each episode became a space to share hard-earned lessons, feature agents and investors who were doing it differently, and give listeners permission to want more. Mattias wasn’t trying to be a guru. He was trying to be real. He wanted every agent listening to know they didn’t have to stay stuck. They could invest. They could grow. And they could build a business that gave more than it took. You Don’t Need Permission to Build the Life You Want Mattias Clymer didn’t wait for someone to hand him an opportunity. He created one. He walked away from security and stepped into uncertainty with nothing but a vision and a willingness to learn. Through every challenge—every lost deal, every tough tenant, every late night managing spreadsheets—he kept going. Today, his life is proof that financial success and personal peace can exist in the same story. He didn’t have a perfect roadmap. He just kept moving forward, fueled by purpose, guided by values, and supported by a partner who believed in the same vision. For any agent staring at the ceiling wondering if this career will ever lead to freedom, Mattias’s journey is the answer. You don’t need a bigger following, a better market, or someone to choose you. You just need to start. You need to bet on yourself—and keep showing up. That’s how you build a life worth living. The Blueprint Was Never Meant to Be Someone Else’s It always starts the same way. Quiet dissatisfaction. A sense that your time is worth more than what you’re being paid. A knowing deep in your gut that the life you’re living is smaller than the one you’re meant to build. So you look around. You study. You question. You wonder if it’s too late to start. Too risky to leap. Too much to dream. But then, something clicks. You stop waiting for permission. You decide that safety isn’t security if it costs you your soul. And with that choice, the path opens. It’s not smooth. It’s not easy. But it is yours. Every mistake teaches. Every small win compounds. And before you know it, you’re no longer just working in a system. You’re designing your own. Along the way, you discover that wealth isn’t just a number. It’s peace. It’s ownership. It’s the freedom to pick up your kids, take the trip, close your laptop, and know that your life is fully yours. The blueprint was never meant to be someone else’s. It was meant to be written by you. You don’t need more credentials or capital. You need courage, consistency, and the decision to start. That’s the beginning of every true transformation. And it’s waiting for you right now.

Why reblog machine-generated art?
When I was ten years old I took a photography class where we developed black and white photos by projecting light on papers bathed in chemicals. If we wanted to change something in the image, we had to go through a gradual, arduous process called dodging and burning.
When I was fifteen years old I used photoshop for the first time, and I remember clicking on the clone tool or the blur tool and feeling like I was cheating.
When I was twenty eight I got my first smartphone. The phone could edit photos. A few taps with my thumb were enough to apply filters and change contrast and even spot correct. I was holding in my hand something more powerful than the huge light machines I'd first used to edit images.
When I was thirty six, just a few weeks ago, I took a photo class that used Lightroom Classic and again, it felt like cheating. It made me really understand how much the color profiles of popular web images I'd been seeing for years had been pumped and tweaked and layered with local edits to make something that, to my eyes, didn't much resemble photography. To me, photography is light on paper. It's what you capture in the lens. It's not automatic skin smoothing and a local filter to boost the sky. This reminded me a lot more of the photomanipulations my friend used to make on deviantart; layered things with unnatural colors that put wings on buildings or turned an eye into a swimming pool. It didn't remake the images to that extent, obviously, but it tipped into the uncanny valley. More real than real, more saturated more sharp and more present than the actual world my lens saw. And that was before I found the AI assisted filters and the tool that would identify the whole sky for you, picking pieces of it out from between leaves.
You know, it's funny, when people talk about artists who might lose their jobs to AI they don't talk about the people who have already had to move on from their photo editing work because of technology. You used to be able to get paid for basic photo manipulation, you know? If you were quick with a lasso or skilled with masks you could get a pretty decent chunk of change by pulling subjects out of backgrounds for family holiday cards or isolating the pies on the menu for a mom and pop. Not a lot, but enough to help. But, of course, you can just do that on your phone now. There's no need to pay a human for it, even if they might do a better job or be more considerate toward the aesthetic of an image.
And they certainly don't talk about all the development labs that went away, or the way that you could have trained to be a studio photographer if you wanted to take good photos of your family to hang on the walls and that digital photography allowed in a parade of amateurs who can make dozens of iterations of the same bad photo until they hit on a good one by sheer volume and luck; if you want to be a good photographer everyone can do that why didn't you train for it and spend a long time taking photos on film and being okay with bad photography don't you know that digital photography drove thousands of people out of their jobs.
My dad told me that he plays with AI the other day. He hosts a movie podcast and he puts up thumbnails for the downloads. In the past, he'd just take a screengrab from the film. Now he tells the Bing AI to make him little vignettes. A cowboy running away from a rhino, a dragon arm-wrestling a teddy bear. That kind of thing. Usually based on a joke that was made on the show, or about the subject of the film and an interest of the guest.
People talk about "well AI art doesn't allow people to create things, people were already able to create things, if they wanted to create things they should learn to create things." Not everyone wants to make good art that's creative. Even fewer people want to put the effort into making bad art for something that they aren't passionate about. Some people want filler to go on the cover of their youtube video. My dad isn't going to learn to draw, and as the person who he used to ask to photoshop him as Ant-Man because he certainly couldn't pay anyone for that kind of thing, I think this is a great use case for AI art. This senior citizen isn't going to start cartooning and at two recordings a week with a one-day editing turnaround he doesn't even really have the time for something like a Fiverr commission. This is a great use of AI art, actually.
I also know an artist who is going Hog Fucking Wild creating AI art of their blorbos. They're genuinely an incredibly talented artist who happens to want to see their niche interest represented visually without having to draw it all themself. They're posting the funny and good results to a small circle of mutuals on socials with clear information about the source of the images; they aren't trying to sell any of the images, they're basically using them as inserts for custom memes. Who is harmed by this person saying "i would like to see my blorbo lasciviously eating an ice cream cone in the is this a pigeon meme"?
The way I use machine-generated art, as an artist, is to proof things. Can I get an explosion to look like this. What would a wall of dead computer monitors look like. Would a ballerina leaping over the grand canyon look cool? Sometimes I use AI art to generate copyright free objects that I can snip for a collage. A lot of the time I use it to generate ideas. I start naming random things and seeing what it shows me and I start getting inspired. I can ask CrAIon for pose reference, I can ask it to show me the interior of spaces from a specific angle.
I profoundly dislike the antipathy that tumblr has for AI art. I understand if people don't want their art used in training pools. I understand if people don't want AI trained on their art to mimic their style. You should absolutely use those tools that poison datasets if you don't want your art included in AI training. I think that's an incredibly appropriate action to take as an artist who doesn't want AI learning from your work.
However I'm pretty fucking aggressively opposed to copyright and most of the "solid" arguments against AI art come down to "the AIs viewed and learned from people's copyrighted artwork and therefore AI is theft rather than fair use" and that's a losing argument for me. In. Like. A lot of ways. Primarily because it is saying that not only is copying someone's art theft, it is saying that looking at and learning from someone's art can be defined as theft rather than fair use.
Also because it's just patently untrue.
But that doesn't really answer your question. Why reblog machine-generated art? Because I liked that piece of art.
It was made by a machine that had looked at billions of images - some copyrighted, some not, some new, some old, some interesting, many boring - and guided by a human and I liked it. It was pretty. It communicated something to me. I looked at an image a machine made - an artificial picture, a total construct, something with no intrinsic meaning - and I felt a sense of quiet and loss and nostalgia. I looked at a collection of automatically arranged pixels and tasted salt and smelled the humidity in the air.
I liked it.
I don't think that all AI art is ugly. I don't think that AI art is all soulless (i actually think that 'having soul' is a bizarre descriptor for art and that lacking soul is an equally bizarre criticism). I don't think that AI art is bad for artists. I think the problem that people have with AI art is capitalism and I don't think that's a problem that can really be laid at the feet of people curating an aesthetic AI art blog on tumblr.
Machine learning isn't the fucking problem the problem is massive corporations have been trying hard not to pay artists for as long as massive corporations have existed (isn't that a b-plot in the shape of water? the neighbor who draws ads gets pushed out of his job by product photography? did you know that as recently as ten years ago NewEgg had in-house photographers who would take pictures of the products so users wouldn't have to rely on the manufacturer photos? I want you to guess what killed that job and I'll give you a hint: it wasn't AI)
Am I putting a human out of a job because I reblogged an AI-generated "photo" of curtains waving in the pale green waters of an imaginary beach? Who would have taken this photo of a place that doesn't exist? Who would have painted this hypersurrealistic image? What meaning would it have had if they had painted it or would it have just been for the aesthetic? Would someone have paid for it or would it be like so many of the things that artists on this site have spent dozens of hours on only to get no attention or value for their work?
My worst ratio of hours to notes is an 8-page hand-drawn detailed ink comic about getting assaulted at a concert and the complicated feelings that evoked that took me weeks of daily drawing after work with something like 54 notes after 8 years; should I be offended if something generated from a prompt has more notes than me? What does that actually get the blogger? Clout? I believe someone said that popularity on tumblr gets you one thing and that is yelled at.
What do you get out of this? Are you helping artists right now? You're helping me, and I'm an artist. I've wanted to unload this opinion for a while because I'm sick of the argument that all Real Artists think AI is bullshit. I'm a Real Artist. I've been paid for Real Art. I've been commissioned as an artist.
And I find a hell of a lot of AI art a lot more interesting than I find human-generated corporate art or Thomas Kincaid (but then, I repeat myself).
There are plenty of people who don't like AI art and don't want to interact with it. I am not one of those people. I thought the gay sex cats were funny and looked good and that shitposting is the ideal use of a machine image generation: to make uncopyrightable images to laugh at.
I think that tumblr has decided to take a principled stand against something that most people making the argument don't understand. I think tumblr's loathing for AI has, generally speaking, thrown weight behind a bunch of ideas that I think are going to be incredibly harmful *to artists specifically* in the long run.
Anyway. If you hate AI art and you don't want to interact with people who interact with it, block me.

Free or Cheap Spanish Learning Resources So You Can Run at Windmills in Fluent Spanish
I will update this list as I learn of any more useful ones. If you want general language learning resources check out this other post. This list is Spanish specific. Find lists for other specific languages here.
For the purposes of this list "free" means something that is either totally free or has a useful free tier. "Cheap" is a subscription under $10USD a month, a software license or lifetime membership purchase under $100USD, or a book under $30USD. If you want to suggest a resource for this list please suggest ones in that price range that are of decent quality and not AI generated.
WEBSITES
Dreaming Spanish - A website that is also a YouTube Channel. This is a comprehensible input site with videos about a variety of subjects with multiple hosts from multiple countries. It has content for learners from absolute beginner to lower advanced. It lets you sort videos by dialect, subject, length, etc. The free version has a lot of content. The paid version is $9 a month and has many more videos and allows you to track your listening hours. The website is in English but all videos are entirely in Spanish.
Lawless Spanish - A free website with resources to learn Spanish relating to grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary. The website also has worksheets, charts, an AI chatbot, and reviews of different learning resources. The website is in English.

They have a paid tier with access to their podcasts, vocab lessons, and their Spanish learning app which is $10 a month or $120 for a lifetime membership. The website is in English.
Speaking Latino - A website marketed at Spanish teachers but it's in English and has guides to colloquial Spanish and slang in a lot of different countries and a free blog with tips on sounding like a local in different countries. It has a paid tier but that's mostly useful for Spanish teachers. They also sell slang dictionaries for various countries that are usually less than $10.
UT Austin Spanish Proficiency Exercises - A bunch of free grammar, vocab, and pronunciation guides for various tasks you should be able to do in Spanish at various levels from one of my alma maters, the University of Texas at Austin. It's got videos of people from different countries pronouncing things. The podcast links often don't work for some reason but the grammar, vocab, and video links should work fine. The website is in English.
SpanishDict - A free dictionary website and app with a search feature that also has curated vocabulary lists on various topics and articles. They have a paid tier at $13 a month with a writing coach and subscriber only curated lists and articles. Personally I don't think their paid tier is all that special but it's up to you. There's also dialogue books specific to Mexican Spanish and Spanish used on social media. The books usually go from $5-$20 new depending on how old they are and whether or not you bought a digital copy. These are really easy to find at used bookstores for cheap though, especially in the US.
Conatilteg Digital - This is a mobile app that provides digital versions of the free textbooks for children provided by the Mexican Ministry of Education both historic and current. The link I provided is for iOS but the app is also available on android and the app is available in multiple countries and not just Mexico. The app is entirely in Spanish and categorized by grade from preschool to secondary school so it's a resource appropriate for all levels and may be enjoyable for any kids you know that are learning Spanish. You can also view their browser website here. (also entirely in Spanish)
Hola Que Pasa - A free website with news articles for learners from beginner to intermediate difficulty. They also provide audio and have the news articles available in podcast form. Every article has certain phrases highlighted that you can hover over and get and English translation of. The website is in a mix of English and Spanish.
Spanish in Levels - A world news website in Spanish for learners. The articles are separated into three different levels and the website is in a mix of English and Spanish. Each article also has audio.
PODCASTS
Spanish for False Beginners - An unscripted podcast about various topics hosted by a guy from the UK and a guy from Spain. The podcast is aimed at people who find beginner content to be boring but still find intermediate content to be too difficult. English is very rarely used.
Uforia/Univision - Uforia is a free app aimed at native speakers in the US and has Spanish language radio, music, and podcasts. Univision in general is also useful if you like American and international news and programming in Spanish.
Radio National de Espana - Another site for native speakers, this is Spanish National Radio. They have a variety of free podcasts and radio programs.
Spanish Obsessed - This is a series of lessons in podcast form for learners from absolute beginner to advanced.
Storylearning Spanish Podcast - This podcast tells different short stories in Spanish and is aimed at upper beginner to lower intermediate learners.
Radio Ambulante - A Spanish language podcast from NPR that's similar to something like This American Life that tells stories from around Latin America. Although it's aimed at native speakers, the language used is clear and understandable and transcripts are available. They're also aware that a lot of intermediate and advanced learners use them for listening practice and they have developed a free app that helps with comprehension and vocabulary when listening to their podcast.
SELF STUDY TEXTBOOKS
Madrigal's Magic Key to Spanish - A self study textbook written in the late 80s that still mostly holds up for beginner to upper beginner Spanish. A paperback edition of the textbook is about $25 and used copies and ebooks are also usually available wherever you like to buy books. It's also half off on Amazon pretty often.
Complete Spanish step-by-step by Mcgraw Hill - This is a complete version of the McGraw Hill budget option, the spanish step by step series that focuses on the most frequently used words and grammar. It's $25 new but the individual books in the series usually cost less than $10 and used versions and ebooks are available.
Complete Spanish Grammar from Mcgraw Hill - This is a workbook as well as a textbook that usually costs around $20. The complete Spanish all in one version of the book costs about $40. Used versions of these books can be difficult to find because people tend to write all over them but ebook versions are available. You can also find their beginner workbook for around $18.
Practical Spanish Grammar - This book is usually around $25 but because it's not a workbook it's fairly easy to find used copies. An advanced grammar textbook is also available.
SERIES FOR LEARNERS AND KIDS SHOWS
Destinos - This is a series of over 50 episodes of a telenovela made for Spanish learners. The plot revolves around a group of siblings searching around the world for their long lost half sibling they just learned that they had so the series includes a lot of different Spanish dialects.
Extra Spanish - A 13 episode sitcom made to show in Spanish classrooms that revolves around a group of friends in Spain and a student that just moved there.
Dora la Expladora - Yeah if you remember Dora the Explorer from your preschool days it also unsurprisingly exists in Spanish. You can watch clips and some full episodes on YouTube and buy full seasons for around $8 each on Amazon.
PBS Kids in Spanish - A few PBS Kids shows like Cyberchase and Daniel Tiger have been dubbed into Spanish. The link I've given goes to a place to buy them on Amazon Prime but if you go digging on their YouTube channel or the PBS Kids website you also might be able to find them for free. They don't always make it easy to find though.
Plaza Sésamo - The Spanish language localization of Sesame Street for Mexican audiences with its own unique characters. The YouTube channel has a huge amount of content on it and often has episodes streaming live.

Note
If any of y'all had tips for aspiring TTRPG creators, what would they be? I'm hosting a "How to Make your own TTRPG" panel at a con this weekend, and anything to show folks from a fellow indie studio would be great!
Yeah a bunch. Each one of these could basically be its own post, but here are the condensed versions.
Social Media
You need social media. No one will ever hear of your game without a strong social media presence. And as much as it sucks, your best bet is probably tumblr. It’s the only populated social media site that allows your posts to be widely circulated without you having to pay, and also long form enough to actually include information. I dedicate one day a week entirely to social media and that’s just about the only reason we make any money at all.
Also, when using tumblr, the first five tags you put on a post are the most important, those are the tags that make it show up on people’s dashboards. The first twenty tags are the ones that make it show up in search results. Don’t put the name of your game in the first five tags generally, because if no one has heard of it yet, no one is following those tags.
Don’t Paywall Your Game
You deserve to be paid for your work if you indeed did any work at all (we’ll get to that), but that just isn’t the world we live in. Unless you have an advertising budget to essentially trick people into buying a game that might end up being crap, you need something to prove that your game is worth spending money on. Without an advertising budget, that proof has to be your game. Setting your game to pay-what-you-want, or providing “community copies,” lets people try your game before they buy. Plenty of people will buy up-front when given the option, and others who can’t afford it at that moment will download it for free then come back and pay later. Some people will never pay, but what that means for you is that they either never experience your game, or they pirate it. People experiencing your game, showing it to their friends, and talking about it is one of the most valuable pieces of advertisement you can ever have. It will ultimately lead to more people who are willing and able to pay learning about your game.
Start Small but Not Too Small
Do not make a one-page game for your first game. Do not be like us and make a 700-page game for your first game. Try to aim for something between 20 and 200 pages, especially if you’re one person or a small team.
Play and Read a lot of RPGs or Your Game Will Suck
Would you watch a movie by a director who had only ever watched one movie? Would you read a book by an author who had only ever read one book? Hell no, those would suck.
Read many rpg rulebooks, from many different genres and decades, play as many of them as you can (by the rules) to understand how the rules work and why they’re there. This will give you the creative tools you need to make something that isn’t just a weaker version of the last RPG you played. No, listening to "actual plays" does not count.
Most actual plays stray significantly from presenting a regular gameplay experience in favor of an experience that is entertaining for an audience. If you want to learn martial arts, you should be watching martial arts tournaments, not WWE.
If you want an actual play podcast that has my “actually mostly presents a real gameplay experience” approval, try Tiny Table.
If you say you don’t have time to read rulebooks, then you don’t have time to design a good game. Studying is part of the process of creating. If you don't, you won't even know about gleeblor.
This will let you know whether your "innovation" is more like "Cars don't need to run on gasoline!" or "Cars don't need crumple zones and airbags!"
The Rules Matter, So Design with Intent
The rules matter the rules fucking matter holy shit what you actually write down on the page matters I can’t believe this is actually the seemingly most needed piece of advice on this list. The. rules. matter.
Design your game to be played in the way you designed it. The rules affect the tone and genre of your game, they affect the type of people PCs can be and the kind of stories that will result from gameplay. Bonuses encourage PC behaviors, penalties discourage PC behaviors.
Do not fall for the trap of “oh well people will just play it their own way based on vibes anyway so it doesn’t matter what I write the rules to be.” Write that you wrote this game to be played by the rules and that significant changes to the rules mean that players are no-longer playing the game you made. Write like you deserve for your art to be acknowledged by its audience. If you don’t, then there is no point in anyone playing the game you made, because if the person who wrote it doesn’t even care what the rules say, why should anyone? The people whose “playing” of TTRPGs consists of never opening the rulebook and improving based on “vibes” will still do that no matter what, but the people who would have actually tried to engage with your game will find that it sucks if you don’t even care what the rules are yourself.
Playtest
You need to playtest your game if you want it to work as intended. You need multiple sets of eyes on it. If you don’t have the opportunity personally to do so, just release your game anyway with the acknowledgement that it’s unfinished. Call it an alpha or a beta version, and ask for people that do play it to give feedback, then update and fix the game based on that feedback.
Ignore Feedback
Most people do not have any game design credibility, perhaps least of all TTRPG players. You do not, in fact, have to listen to everything people say about your game. Once you ask for feedback, people will come to you with the most deranged, asinine, bad-faith “feedback” you can imagine, and then get really mad at you when you don’t fall to your knees and kiss their feet about it. You do not need to take this feedback at face value, instead you need to learn to read between the lines and find out which parts of the rules text are being misinterpreted by players, and which incorrect assumptions players are making about your game. Then, you update and improve the game by clearing those up. Only like 30% of “feedback” you receive will actually be a directly helpful suggestion in its own right at face value.
You can’t please everyone, and shouldn’t, so appeal to the people who actually like your game for being what it is, not the people who don’t.
Read Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy
Yeah this one sounds self-serving but hear me out. Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy is as much a treatise on TTRPG game design as it is a game itself. When it presents mechanics and rules, it tells you what they are, why they are, how they are, and what you’re intended to do with them. This makes it an excellent example to read for anyone wanting to get serious about game design and learn how TTRPGs tick under the hood, and an excellent example of a TTRPG that expects players to play it the way it was written to be played, and why that is a good thing. Also you can download it for free.

How to Paint with Words
Tumblr media
When an author paints with words, they use word choice and sentence sequences to figuratively paint pictures in a reader’s mind.
In the visual arts, painting pictures, of course, refers to the act of representing people, objects, and scenery for viewers to behold with their own eyes.
In creative writing, painting pictures also refers to producing a picture of people, objects, and scenes—but the artist’s medium is the written word.
A master author uses care and precision in their writing process to craft evocative word pictures that conjure up mental images for their readers. If you want to bring a painterly quality to your own work, here are 5 writing tips to set you in the right direction:
Treat writing as an art form. Like all fine art, every component of the composition must be carefully considered. Some authors agonize over their book’s first sentence and last sentence, which is of course very important. But what about the second sentence? And the third? To paint with words, you must be mindful of detail in all sections of your text.
If you don’t think you have the right words, keep looking. If you type a verb or adjective that doesn’t feel satisfyingly evocative and you suspect there’s a near-synonym out there that would be a better word choice, continue your search. Use a thesaurus to remind you of words that may be slipping your mind at the moment you’re writing.
Emphasize action words. Action words are verbs that indicate proactivity by a subject. Action words help your reader understand what your characters are actually doing. And when you paint with words, the ability to show what characters do is a vital skill set. Use descriptive verbs to add more color to your action.
Strike a balance between description and prompting readers’ own imaginations. Although it may initially seem counterintuitive, sometimes painting with words requires withholding information so that the reader can imagine a scene for themselves. Let’s say that in your novel, you wish to describe a skyline. To paint the image with words, you don’t necessarily need to describe every single building lined up in a row. Instead, imagine what it looks like to stand on a street and behold five skyscrapers next to each other. Most people can’t process the details of every single building; their eye focuses on one or two and the other buildings are processed as more of a blur. If you represent such a “blurred” sensation in your own writing, you may be better able to give the reader the impression of really being there. So focus your written description on one or two buildings and maybe throw in some non-visual sensations, like the honking of taxis in the background.
Seek opportunities to improve your writing skills. The ability to paint with words isn’t mastered in a single session. Like all aspects of writing, it will always be a work in progress for even the best authors. Seek out the insight of writers you admire: Some have written books about their craft (Stephen King’s On Writing for example), while others share details of their craft via blogging or host their own podcasts. If a local writers’ collective offers an education program, look into it. It’s never too late to learn new prose techniques, literary devices, and storytelling methods.

Tumblr media
💌 Syn: Paige is on “the best of both worlds” podcast during her world tour
»»— warnings: none :)
»»— notes: 🗑️😃 but only 1 more fic before i’m done trying to edit these cringy stories 🤗
»»— word count: 1k
»»— pair: paige x daughter!oc || lilah bueckers
Tumblr media
Todays the day of filming Flaujae's podcast "the best of both worlds" hosted in Atlanta currently because of overtime Queen of the Court. Lilah is also with Paige but the time of filming the podcast, is a few minutes after her nap time starts and she can never skip naps or she'll be a very grumpy sassy 1 year old. So she's gonna sleep in the room next door and Paige & Flaujae are gonna leave the filming room door cracked so Paige can hear if she wakes up or anything.
"Alright guys now moving on, today's special guest is.....Paige Bueckers!" Flaujae introduces "hey everyone! Thank you for having me." Paige replies
"So I have some questions for you" flaujae starts, making Paige nod and say go ahead.
"What is your favorite basketball highlight of yours?"
"Ooo wait...oh I'm gonna go with when I was shooting the ball and it bounced off the rim, and then straight down in the bucket. I love that highlight"
"I saw that one! That was so dope!"
"Alright, what's your favorite basketball picture of you?"
"The one where I'm looking at the fans screaming after a basket, and there all screaming back at me. I need to get that framed!"
"Y'all heard her, get that picture framed for her" Flau says making her and Paige laugh a little and joke around for a few. "Alright who has more rizz?" Flaujae jokes "oh cmon, I'm the greatest rizzler of all time" Paige laughs making Flau also start to laugh "Alright I'll give you that. People say I'm a flirty person until I'm talking to someone I like" "your just shy or?" Paige cuts in "no it's more of just like I don't want to push it to much." Flaujae adds "oh I get that, I get that"
"You need to give me some tips." Flaujae jokingly says "alright-" Paige starts "off camera, off camera" Flaujae cuts in making Paige agree "Alright alright, a little more serious questions" Flaujae starts "you have a daughter" she adds making Paige nod "what's your favorite thing about her?"
"Ooo uhh, I honestly don't know. Uhh her love for adventure maybe? She loves going to new places, seeing new people, seeing animals she's never seen before. She loves even going on like "road-trips" to the store or gas station." Paige answered "Shes been with you for your whole "world tour" so far, right?" Flau questions "yeah.“
"What was your favorite thing to do with her on your world tour? And what was her favorite thing to do, if you know?"
"My favorite was umm oh our LA trip, we did a lot there. We went to Disneyland, Universal, a few museums, few beach trips, an aquarium vist, plus some more. Lilah's favorite was probably-" Paige stops talking as she hears Lilah walking through the hallway and calling out for her
"Mama" Lilah says, obviously looking for Paige. P takes a quick glance at Flaujae asking if she can bring Lilah in here, making Flaujae do a quick nod giving Paige her approval. "In here baby" P calls out, hearing Lilah start walking towards the filming room.
When she enters and sees Paige, she starts waddling towards P a little faster "good morning babe, how was your nap?" Paige asks, going on deaf ears as Lilah just walks closer to Paige and puts her hands on P’s thighs, a sign that she wants picked up. So Paige leans down and picks her up putting her on her thigh and Lilah immediately cuddles closer to Paige.
"I 100% have baby fever now. She's so cute omg" Flaujae says making Paige let out a chuckle "thank you" Paige says "well she's in here now so maybe she can answer your question. Lil what was your favorite thing we did so far this summer?"
She just cuddles into Paige more "cmon Lilah, I know you have favorites" P tries to convince her "ball and Disney" Lilah mumbles "she said ball and Disney, which translates to all star and Disneyland"P chuckles while rubbing Lilahs back, either to help her go back to sleep or to wake her up. Paige doesn’t really know the answer yet and she doesn’t think Lilah knows yet either
"I was gonna ask her favorite part of all star but looking at her, I don't think she wants to answer" Flaujae softly says, seeing that Lilah is trying not to fall asleep in Paige's arms right now  "she never really wants to talk after waking up, she just wants cuddles and silence to decide if she's awake for the day or not - but she said she loved meeting all the new people and seeing people she already knew again - especially loved seeing Diana, Sue, Breanna, Megan, Angel and Caitlyn, when I asked her." Flaujae nods and says  "so we can count on her to go to UConn" "I mean maybe? But I'm not gonna force her to follow my footsteps." Paige shrugs making Flau nod again "alright I'll move the subject away from your daughter, I got carried away. That's my bad"
Paige laughs a little, "Your good. I love talking about her any chance I get." Flaujae smiles at that and says "you seem like an amazing mom"
"Thank you. I try my best for her." Flaujae nods and then looks at her cards and says "alright we're gonna play a game. I'm gonna name a few of your teammates past and present, and I want you to give me one word that describes them." Paige nods still rubbing Lilahs back, and Lilahs just playing with Paige's chain now, deciding she wasn’t tired anymore.
"Kk Arnold" "goofy"
"Azzi Fudd" "consistent"
"Nika Mühl" "I have so many words to describe her....menace"
"Aaliyah Edwards" "dog"
"And last but not least, Ice Brady" "she icy"
Lilah stayed on Paige’s lap for the rest of filming, still just playing with P’s chain - and once filming was wrapped Paige took lilah to get some food before going back to the practice facility and go over plays with “team paige”

BREAKING: THE INVITATION – CUT QUESTION
“Okay, next question!”
The host gestures toward the stack of remaining cards, and Charles leans forward, plucking one from the middle. He reads it quickly to himself before blinking in surprise. The question is not only unexpected, he wonders why on earth the podcast would even ask such a thing. But, having faced the consequences of not-asking a question before, he decides it’s a fairly innocent, albeit strange, one.
“Alright,” he begins, trying to keep the wonder out of his tone. “Have you ever had someone copy a signature race move?”
He expects Max ro roll his eyes, scoff and say no. His own smile is half-teasing, half-challenging, already braced for the sarcastic comeback from the Dutchman.
But Max’s expression shifts, hesitating for a long moment.
“Uh…” he rubs the back of his neck nervously, eyes flicking toward the polygraph technician like he’s debating whether to lie or tell the truth. “Actually, yes.”
Charles straightens in surprise. "Wait–really?" Who?”
Max shrugs, eyes fixed on the card in Charles’s hand as though it might bail him out. “You.”
The silence that follows is stunned — and then Charles lets out a startled laugh, eyebrows rising. “Me?!”
Max nods slowly, a small, sheepish smile tugging at his mouth. “Yeah. Years ago. Spa. You mirrored my braking point into La Source and took the outside line just like I did two races before. It was one of my favorite moves at the time.”
“I didn’t—” Charles trails off, a flush rising in his cheeks. “I didn’t even know it was your move. I just thought it looked cool.”
“It was cool,” the blond replies, voice softening. “And you nailed it. Better than most would’ve. Still... you could’ve asked.”
“And you would’ve just... What, drawn me a diagram?”
“I would’ve explained it. Given you tips. Maybe even let you test it out side-by-side in sim or something.”
Charles bites his lip and stays silent for a long time. The pang of guilt is hard to ignore, but Max doesn’t sound angry or upset at all. If anything, he sounds amused. Eventually, he remembers where they are and that the host is waiting for a response, pushes the guilt that’s gnawing inside his chest away and looks up at Max with a curious gleam in his eye. “So all I have to do is ask?”
“Next time,” Max says with a smirk, his voice dropping just a bit, “just ask.”
And again, there’s that beat of silence where the air stretches thin between them, charged and teasing.
Then Charles hums, casual but just shy of flirty. “Got any other tricks up your sleeve?”
“Plenty,” Max replies smoothly, puts his elbows on the table and leans in a bit closer. “I’ll show you, if you want.”
The blush that creeps up Charles’s neck is immediate and telling, and Max watches him with unhidden satisfaction. “Right,” he mutters, clearing his throat and looking at the host expectantly, but not before he catches Max leaning just a little closer, murmuring:
“But only in private.”

We know; exciting, right! An exclusive “cut question” from our beloved fic The Invitation. But unfortunately, not without reason.
This fic, and by extension we, were the target of plagiarism.
This text is not intended to create drama or public exposure. It is simply a brief and necessary statement — out of respect for the people involved and to protect others who share their work with confidence.
Some of our copyrighted content was used without permission by someone with whom we had close contact. This affected not just one person, but several, and it was something that only came to light recently, although it had been happening for months.
The person involved was contacted and there was a conversation. Supposedly, they acknowledged the error, apologized and presented their perspective on the situation. However, since this was a private conversation, we will not go into details here.
Not only we, but also the incredibly talented @chock-and-bates has been a victim of this. Supposedly, it would only be our fics, but it’s hard to say at this point because logically, trust has been broken.
Due to the gravity of what happened and the impact it has had in recent weeks, we felt it was important to make this public statement — without exposing, without attacking, but with responsibility.
Using someone’s work (with permission!) as inspiration is a big compliment. Using someone’s work and pretending it’s your own, isn’t. Please never consider copying work you love; it only hurts writers and readers in the end.
If you want to know more details, we have a document with the details of the case — just contact us or @chock-and-bates privately. But above all, we would like to reduce this situation to what it is now — a problem supposedly resolved.
@adutchlover & @randomwordsonpaper
P.s: Don’t worry… there IS more to come inside The Invitation universe! ;)

Let's talk careers and job vibes based on your North Node sign in the Mony Persona Chart. This is how you are destined to secure the bag, and these are the fields that align with your money karma. This isn't just any job list. This is your soul-aligned path to wealth. This seems to be more accurate in how you will make money in this lifetime. I have studied billionaire charts and their north node in this persona chart has confirmed to me that they are in their prospective careers and of course the rest of the chart verifies it. We are going to break this down to get the full picture. We are going to look at the sign your NN is in, and the house. In Part 3, I'll discuss degrees and rulerships because that is IMPORTANT too!

Note
do you know of any free/public domain books i can find on witchcraft, but more like “how to do” witchcraft and not just history and famous figures and stuff? im closeted and young so i cant buy my own, i have about a years worth of knowledge on it already from online research so im not like a complete beginner anymore but would still like to read some actual books on it.
Unfortunately, due to the nature of public domain laws, pretty much all the books you're going to find about witchcraft that ARE in the public domain are...well, old and outdated. The movement hasn't existed long enough for the authors of the more updated how-to books to have passed away and to have their works enter public domain.
The good news is, there are PODCASTS.
Plenty of witches make podcasts that are available for free and a lot of them either provide transcripts or the audio can be run through a transcription app or service if you need a written version or have audio processing issues.
Obligatory personal plug, I have a show called Hex Positive that deals with a lot of tips for building your craft, plus discussions about the history of witchcraft, issues facing the community today, and guests whose perspectives are interesting. There's also BS-Free Witchcraft, hosted by our favorite curmudgeon @traegorn, which examines modern witchcraft through a Wiccan lens minus the usual bullshit. Both shows are on the major platforms (and live on the Nerd & Tie Podcast Network).
There are also plenty of YouTube channels dedicated to witch tips, instruction, discussion, and so forth. (Personally, I recommend Do The Magical Thing with Lee Ignire, they're marvelous AND you can find lots of recs on their channel.)
There are also groups like @criticalthinkingwitches that can recommend additional resources and provide community and feedback, should you wish it.
Hope this helps!
ADDENDUM:
A very smart person in the comments brought up Your Local Library, which I completely forgot about, and that is an EXCELLENT way to read recent publications of all sorts FOR FREE, plus they have ebooks and audiobooks and will happily purchase or borrow books from other branches if you ask nicely.
(Also these establishments are already under fire and need all the support and foot traffic we can give them as free information centers, gathering spaces, and sources of public education.)
