Pac: Sweatpants, they're sweatpants, you see? Sweatpants, I tricked you. It's too hot man, there's no way! This white shirt is cool, right? I even put on a little vest that I have and I wore my best tie, it's Burberry. I even put on a little vest that I have, but it doesn't fit anymore. Hold on, let me fix my camera-
Pac: Hello, welcome, my name is Pac, I'll be parking your car today. [Laughs] It doesn't fit man, you see?! It doesn't fit anymore, man! It's no use, you see? I'm vacuum sealed, right? I know, I know, I know– The only thing that fits is the tie!
Pac: I'm really excited for the [Arkanis] Oscars today because we're going to see a lot of– Lots of friends, the old Specialists, right? Everything's tight, all of these are old. There's no way, man! There's no way, no way– I can't even put on my old blazer–! [He struggles, but eventually succeeds in putting it back on] It's too hot, Chat! I can't do it, I might not be able to do it, I might not be able to wear this for long, for real. It wasn't supposed to be seen, these weren't meant to be visible, ok? [The pants] weren't supposed to look like this. Relax, it's because I'm not wearing the right pants, ok? It looks better from afar, alright?
Pac: I'm not that short, I'm 175 cm, guys! You're calling me– no, I'm not.

I was accepted to a paid video editing internship and a lot of the work is very reminiscent of what I used to do here. It makes me so happy to know that my silly little Tumblr blog gave me good practice :3 I hope everyone is doing well <3 Tell me what you're going to be for Halloween!

if you’re a YouTuber with a large audience, and you actually make profit from said audience, you should be legally obliged to hire someone to subtitle your videos or be sentenced to sensory deprivation torture

The subtitles on The Professionals are always bad but this episode has had some real humdingers, including the opening line being subtitled as "Fuck! Come on in," and Bodie and Doyle asking if they should put on their "flax jackets."
They may be very stylish in their flax jackets but I suspect they will not protect them against bullets

infuriating when you've spent countless hours since last week translating movies for a movie festival and then you see yet another post on the internet saying "omg why aren't subtitles exactly 100% what is being said in a movie ://". killing myself

god that one post pisses me off. "if you're captioning something you should always write down what they're actually saying and not [speaks foreign language]". especially now someone added "yeah do all the songs too!!". like ok yes in an ideal world that would be wonderful but it drives me absolutely bananas that most people have no idea where these captions come from. the amount of work it takes to create them. who they're written by. becuase 99% of the time it is someone in the global south, severly underpaid and overworked, who does not know what the characters are saying in the language they don't speak. are you seriously asking these people to just. guess? transliterate as best they can? then people would be pissed off that it's not done properly! they would be (correctly) insulted by that!! and the amount of training and resources required to do it properly is simply not going to happen, because the companies don't give a shit. you are asking for labor, man. be fucking serious for a second.

I am learning so many things, the Funimation merger with CR and the almost doubling (!!!) of cost of subscription is crazy. Yeah no wonder RWBY renewal hangs in the balance, I don't even think RT could possibly get an audience through that, it wouldn't be ideal for either side. I think that must've influenced the turn in strategy internally.

Being bilingual is great bc I can justify watching the same 6 hours of content for the third time in 10 days to see how they translated the dialogue <3

I've just finished episode 5 of Vivant, and I have to say, I really love and appreciate the mix of languages on this show. You just KNOW that if this show were American, all the "Balkan"/Mongolian characters would be speaking English with a foreign accent for the convenience of the audience. So I absolutely love this show's choice to have huge chunks of the show's dialogue delivered in Mongolian, including lines by the Japanese main characters, and to simply subtitle it in Japanese. No handwaving about how the main characters' foreign contacts just happen to speak Japanese with no expectation that the main characters might also speak Mongolian. No, instead, all the main characters speak Mongolian and English (and Arabic maybe, in Nogi's case?) in addition to Japanese, none of the Americans speak Japanese, only the Balkan/Mongolian characters for whom it makes sense that they would speak Japanese speak Japanese, and the language of the scene is chosen based on what language would most likely be used in that situation in real life. Convenience for the audience is simply not a consideration. And I love it!
