💫 Why Protection Magic Is Useful (even if you have no enemies)
A lot of witches will tell new witches (baby witches) that they should start by learning and using protection magic. However, I've started to see a lot of witches say that protection magic is not as important as other witches claim it to be. Saying that they don't have anyone coming after them or an enemy in real life to warrant a spell of protection.
I think this may also be due to how I've not personally come across anyone really explaining why a witch may want to use protection magic all the time.
Now, it is true that there's no need to be paranoid all the time and have protection up 24/7. But here's a list where you may use it, find it useful, or haven't thought protection magic could be included.
An actual person -- This one is obvious, you have an enemy in real life or on the internet and you need protection magic to protect you from their curses.
A malevolant spirit -- They can come from your windows, mirrors (including tv screens, computer screens, and other reflective surfaces maybe), they seep through floor cracks, hanging onto your coats from outside, etc. Just like how you'd use garden gloves to avoid dirt up your nails being trapped there. Protection magic is just like putting on those gloves.
An energy -- Say you have a neighbour who's arguing with someone. They're yelling and screaming and it can be heard through the apartment walls. That negative energy is seeping into your home and your energy. So it may be worth protecting your home and energy from that sour neighbour's energy. (ever been scolded by your mother and your mood is sour? it's kind of like the same here.)
Your own spell -- Now a self-love spell is probably not something you should protect yourself from. But let's say you're doing a curse. It would be a smart idea to make sure you're protected before beginning such a spell. Much like how you'd wear an apron to protect your clothes from stains when cooking food. You may not always spill your food when cooking, but damn it is it annoying when you do and the stain won't wash off. It's the same with a spell.
Unintentionally -- Sometimes things can happen that's out of our control and it's a good idea to be a little prepared. A black cat suddenly running across the street? Bad luck. Someone got jealous when you told them something good? Evil Eye. Think of it as going to the store with an extra bag for your groceries. You may not need it, but isn't it handy when you at one point do need it?
Protection magic doesn't have to be elaborate or grand or be convoluted. Protection magic is powerful but also extremely simple. All you need is a horseshoe above the door, a little talisman in your pocket, a sigil for your car, etc.
So don't dismiss the importance of protection magic. It may help to improve your spellwork and your energy.

Protection Magic Basics
Because your energy deserves to be guarded as much as it is nurtured.
Cleansing —
Before protecting, cleanse. Clear out stagnant or unwanted energy so you’re working from a clean slate.
Try:
• Sound (bells, chimes, clapping)
• Smoke (herbs like rosemary, mugwort, or incense)
• Cleansing sprays (moon water, essential oils, Florida water)
• Crystals (selenite, black tourmaline, obsidian)
• Salt (in corners, on thresholds, or in baths)
• Physical cleaning (sweeping with intention, floor washes, simmer pots)
• Visualization (imagine white or golden light filling your space)
Protection Methods —
Once the energy is cleared, protect it. Set boundaries, shield, and seal.
You can use:
• Protection jars (layered with herbs, nails, crystals, etc.)
• Sigils (carved, drawn, or hidden in plain sight)
• Runes (carried or inscribed on tools)
• Wards (invisible energetic boundaries or charms at doors/windows)
• Protective herbs (hang bundles, place in sachets, burn in rituals)
• Mirrors (for deflection, not always reflection)
Your protection practice doesn’t have to be complicated — it just has to be yours.

Protection Candle to cast circles
Picture from pixabay.com
I have been practicing witchcraft off and on for about 16 years, and in those 16 years I've discovered that I do not have the patience to cast a protective circle with elaborate chants and hand movements every time that I do a spell. So I developed this particular method, which works perfectly for me. And it might work for you as well!
What do we need?
A white candle
Pester and Mortar
Neutral oil (I use almond oil, but olive oil is okay too)
Rosemary (for cleansing and purification)
Lavender (for cleansing and purification)
Mugwort (for protection)
Bay leaf (for purification, protection and to set intention)
Thyme (for banishing)
The process
I like to cleanse my space first before doing any spell work. I light my previous candle if I have one, otherwise I cleanse with sound. For this, I use my bell and ring it thrice.
Add the Rosemary, Lavender, Mugwort and Thyme in your mortar. Grind until the herbs are small.
Take your bay leaf and write your intention down on it.
Add it to your mortar and grind until its small.
Anoint your candle with the oil.
Sprinkle your herb mixture on the candle until it's covered to your satisfaction.
Put the candle in a candle holder and light it whenever you want to do a spell. You can walk a circle with it or just let it burn on your altar. That's completely up to you, what you feel is best.
That is my very easy protection candle, which I use to cast circles with. I usually let it burn on my altar for the duration of my spell work and blow it out when I am done. While working on the candle, I also like to play some music. I make playlists with songs that give me the right vibe; Click here for my protection playlist!
I hope this works for you as it works for me, or inspires you to find your own easy way to protect your space! Blessed Be!

Sigil for the protection of pagans

I've noticed that lately paganism has become a little bit more mainstream - but so has hate against us. The messed up algorithm of different social medias has shown me lots content against us, from some mild ones saying we need to convert to harsher ones like saying crus4des should come back.
While people who say this aren't really a majority compared to the 8 billion of people who live in the world, they're enough to make someone like me (I have generalised anxiety disorder) a little bit paranoid. So I created this sigil and I thought I might share with anyone who might need it.
The sigil is designed to both protect us and esase our anxieties. I created it following the patterns in a Jupiter grid and it's also designed to get stronger the more people use it. And even though I'm saying “paganism” for simplicity's sake, it actually should work on any minority/folk religion, so practicers of non European indigenous religions can also use it.
How to draw: You first make the circle, then the line and then the zig zag that ends up in a figure that's a mix of a shield and a bow (to be protected but also being able to defend yourself if needed). I'm not the best at drawing but you get the idea.

Home Protections: Methods and Magick that Guard a Witch's Home
Normally, I make a point not to share the exact protections I've made around my home. However, in the interest of keeping this community open and communicative, I think it's best to show how I keep my home safe from negative people and energies.
This will be focused on what I do for my *apartment*, not my altar or my person, which I may feature in a later post.
Smudging/Smoke cleansing - I feel like this is one of the most basic skills in a witch's arsenal, as it were. For smudge sticks, I recommend plants that grow in your area. For me that's garden sage, lavender, cedar, mugwort, and rose petals. You can make your own smudge sticks by binding stalks of these herbs together with pure cotton string. You can even collect and dry your own herbs for this purpose. As for incense, my favorite overall is jasmine but for smoke cleansing and protection I opt for Wild Berry Sage and Santo or Ispalla Palo Santo & Rue incense sticks. I tend to avoid buying whole palo santo sticks or white sage smudge bundles, though I do inevitably end up with them as gifts.
Protection oils - its ridiculously easy to make your own blends, though it can get expensive. My favorite at the moment is a blend of cedar, juniper, clove, mugwort, and bergamot in a base of olive oil so I can wear it as well as anoint with it. Be careful the surface you use these on - I wouldn't recommend finished hardwoods, for instance, unless you've diluted it in a spray or cleaner. Diluted vinegar is my favorite for non-porous surfaces (like linoleum, tile, or tabletops), with one part each of vinegar and water, and a few drops of oil.
Sound cleansing - whether you prefer singing bowls, a bell, singing, or playing music or chants on a speaker, sound has a powerful impact on the energy in a space. Just think of the difference music makes in the energy of a cafe versus a club. Sanctify and purify your space with sacred sound and music, or simply get your house spirits dancing while you clean! There is so much to choose from with this option.
Charms and amulets - There are. So many different ways to protect your home. A partial list of my favorites include: Witch bells, railroad spikes, hagstones, pentacles, spell bags, spell bottles, most black or white crystals (onyx, black tourmaline, obsidian, selenite, clear quartz), and of course the evil eye. More specific charms include dream catchers to catch and prevent nightmares, and horseshoes turned in the shape of a 'u' to catch the good luck entering your home.
Runes, bindrunes, and rune staves - my personal favorite being the Elder Futhark rune Algiz ᛉ, which you can either use on its own, or combine with other runes to create a bind rune (where the different runes share a single base line and you draw each rune onto it), or what is known as a rune stave, which is a sigil of your own making consisting of multiple runes. There's no exact science to this, many different types of staves have been found that were used for many different purposes, both lingual and magickal, over the centuries. For example, I seal many of my spell bottles with a simple, even cross (like a crossroads) with the end of each line forking three ways like an Algiz. Here is a more complicated stave that protects the entrance to my home, which I drew in white candle wax on the bottom of my door mat.

In the center, I bring the focus to Jera ᛃ, the year, to represent each season and a full cycle, good harvests, restful winters, bountiful springs, etc. To protect and bring prosperity year round.
The middle cross represents the values the rune protects in my home: Algiz ᛉ, is for protection, Pertho ᛈ is for play, joy, and laughter, Othila ᛟ, for home and family, and Kenaz ᚲ, for the torch or hearth.
The outermost circle is the protective ring in envisioning around the house. I invoke Isa I, or the ice, to freeze out and make unwelcome any who would wish to do us harm. Gebo X is a symbol of giving and taking. Reciprocity is important in any relationship, whether with the earth or with friends, and any who pass through our doors and receive our generosity as hosts I want to instill with this giving spirit.
Salt - This one is the simplest. So simple in fact it ought to have been first. Salt has such rich history and folklore from all around the world, I won't even begin to touch on all of it. But its essential role in our bodies and lives is undeniable. Not only is it nutritionally necessary, and a wonderful preservative, but it is also the earth's most powerfully protective mineral. You don't need anything special, in fact it's best to just buy the cheapest you can because if you're getting into spellwork, you're going to be using a lot of it. It can be mixed with ashes from your spells and incense, herb blends, and blessings to make different witches salts. Aunt Lucinda from The Spiderwick Chronicles wasn't as crazy as she seemed for having a line of salt in each doorway and windowsill. Be careful using salt outdoors, as too much kills any plant, and too much around small children and pets simply because they'll eat anything.
Prayers, affirmations, and incantations - these will of course be extremely personal. They can be as simple as saying "I am protected" or "I am guarded" etc., as you walk your house. You can make symbols or sigils with the movement of your hands. You can pray to a deity if you choose. A personal favorite of mine is to incant as I smoke cleanse, rotating my incense or smudge stick counterclockwise (to release, dispel, or banish - clockwise to attract) and say "I release that which does not serve me. I banish that which would do me harm."
For all of these, *intention* is going to be your best friend. Visualize a white, protective light filling your home, pushing the shadows from every crevice, and let your power and the powers you trust to call on shield you from any harmful energy that may come your way. Some of these will have to be redone yearly, or monthly, some I only do when I feel the need for something particularly strong, like when an evil eye breaks or a string of ill fortune strikes, and sickness or an unwanted person has been in the house. Let your intuition guide you.
Hope you enjoyed, let me know what I should share next!

The Sacred Art of Fiber Crafts: Weaving Magic Through Every Stitch
In the gentle rhythm of needles clicking and yarn flowing through fingers, there exists an ancient magic that modern practitioners are rediscovering. Knitting and crocheting, far beyond their practical applications, serve as powerful tools for protection magic and spiritual meditation – a practice that connects us to generations of wise women who came before.
🧿The Meditative Dance of Thread and Needle
Every stitch is a breath, every row a prayer. When we sit down with our yarn and needles, we enter a state of flow that bears remarkable similarity to traditional meditation practices. The repetitive motions quiet the mind, creating a trance-like state where we can access deeper levels of consciousness. Time seems to slow, and the boundary between craftsperson and craft begins to blur.
This meditative state isn't just peaceful – it's powerful. As we work, we naturally align our energy with the universal flow, much like the steady rhythm of waves on a shore or the cyclical turning of the seasons. Each stitch becomes an opportunity to infuse our work with intention, to weave protection and blessing into every fiber.
🪢Protection Magic in Every Row
The art of protection magic through fiber crafts is elegantly simple yet profound. As we create, we're literally constructing a shield of safety, love, and positive energy. Traditional witchcraft has long recognized that items made by hand carry the energy and intention of their maker. When we knit or crochet with protective purpose, we're creating talismans that carry our magic in every thread.
Consider a shawl crafted for a loved one: Each stitch can be worked with a specific intention – protection from harm, blessing for good health, or a shield against negative energy. The very act of choosing the yarn becomes a ritual – selecting colors that correspond with our magical intention, feeling the texture that speaks to our purpose.
🪄The Witch's Tools: More Than Just Needles
Our tools themselves carry deep symbolic meaning:
🪢Knitting needles represent the duality of creation and protection, like the twin pillars of any magical practice
🪝The crochet hook mirrors the wand, directing energy with precision and purpose
🧶Yarn symbolizes the thread of fate, which we actively shape with every project
⭕The finished piece becomes a magical circle, an unbroken loop of protection and power
A Living Tradition
This practice connects us to a long line of fiber workers who understood the power of their craft. From the Norns of Norse mythology who wove the fate of worlds, to the women who knitted codes into their work during wartime, to modern practitioners who craft protest pieces and healing shawls – we're part of an unbroken tradition of magical crafting.
Ⓜ️Practical Applications for Modern Witches
For those seeking to incorporate fiber magic into their practice, begin simply:
Set clear intentions before starting any project
Choose materials mindfully, considering their magical correspondences
Work in a cleansed and sacred space
Use the rhythm of your stitches as a mantra or focus for meditation
Visualize protective energy flowing from your hands into the work
Remember that the most powerful magic often lies in the simplest acts. A basic garter stitch scarf worked with love and protective intention can be as magically potent as the most complex spell.
Closing the Circle
As witches in the modern world, we're constantly discovering new ways to blend ancient practices with contemporary life. Fiber crafts offer us a perfect bridge between worlds – a way to practice our craft that's both practical and deeply magical. Whether creating a protective blanket for a new baby, a healing shawl for a friend in need, or a grounding sweater for ourselves, we're participating in a form of magic that's both ancient and eternally relevant.
In every stitch, we weave our intentions. In every finished piece, we create not just garments or accessories, but magical tools imbued with purpose and power. So the next time you pick up your needles or hook, remember – you're not just crafting; you're casting a spell that will last as long as the fibers hold together.

Witch’s Armor: Protective Amulets & Charms
Not all protection spells come in smoke and salt—some you wear. Some you carry. Some you stitch into your clothes or tuck behind your door. These charms are ancient, quiet guardians, and they work best when made personal.
⸻
What Is an Amulet or Charm?
• Amulet – protective object, often worn or kept close
• Charm – item enchanted for a specific purpose (protection, luck, love, etc.)
Both are activated through intention—and sometimes a spell.
⸻
Common Witchy Protection Charms:
• Black Tourmaline / Obsidian – absorbs negativity
• Evil Eye Jewelry – wards off envy and curses
• Witch Bottles – jars filled with sharp objects, herbs, and intentions; buried or hidden
• Protection Sigils – drawn on paper, jewelry, shoes, or phone cases
• Red Thread or Yarn – wrapped around wrists, door handles, or tools for spiritual shielding
• Iron Keys or Nails – symbol of banishment and boundary-setting
• Herb Sachets – small fabric pouches filled with rosemary, cloves, black salt
⸻
Simple Protection Charm Ritual:
1. Choose your object
2. Cleanse it (smoke, sound, salt, moonlight)
3. Hold it, speak your intention:
“You protect me from all harm, seen and unseen.”
4. Wear, carry, or place it with purpose
⸻
Charm your world.
Let protection be as everyday as getting dressed.

I’m weaving up something magical with super saver yarn, a black candle, and my plant allies. I have started weaving “spell scarfs” (desperately looking for a cooler name so if you can think of one lmk)
These scarfs are designed as spells. This one provides spiritual protection to its wearer.
My intention is for the is scarf to be worn as part of an every day outfit to venture out into public and protect the person from other energies (but it also could be used in private ritual workings too). I got this idea from the practice of veiling. I love that practice and concept but HATE having stuff on my head. The sensory input is a nightmare for almost all hats/veils except for this one particular hat which gets a free pass (it’s the autism). But, wearing scarfs is fine so I decided to start making spell scarfs. I have a few ones only own for protection, grounding, and luck.
I will be selling these “spell scarfs” on my Etsy when they’re finished so keep an eye out for them! I’ll announce it on here as well as instagram

Today has been hectic, I have had a course of the worst everyday luck it's possible to have in a while. Got home and renewed my protections which to be fair it had been a while. I'm not a paranoid person, when bad things happen I generally assume it is not down to fate or spiritual causes. But the amount of things that went wrong today forced me to consider the possibility that there may be some malignant forces surrounding me. That is not to say I think I've been cursed, but something more like lingering ill will. A reminder to keep my affairs in order when it comes to witchcraft, certainly.
To that end, I thought I'd share some super simple tips and tricks for spiritual protection. Save this post, if you'd like, I find it may come in handy when you least expect it.
1. Oil and water spell
This is good for drawing out negative energies. I personally use salt water paired with oils I've infused myself, but you can just as easily use cooking or olive oil, even animal fats after cooking. It doesn't have to be pretty, it just has to work.
The process is simple:
Pour water and salt into a jar and concentrate on it for as long as necessary. Then pour on equal parts oil, or at least enough to cover the surface of the water.
Place the lid firmly on and shake. Shake as much as you need to for as long as you need to. Once you're done, say a few words and as the oil and water separate, so too will you be separated from negative energies.
2. Simple knot protection spell
Simply tie seven knots into a length of red or black thread, yarn or leather string, focusing on building up protection as you go.
3. "Fuck off" with chilli powder
Going with the simple theme, for this one all you need is some salt, chilli powder, and cloves as well if you want. All banishing tools.
Open a window in your home, I do this in each room in my flat, and pour into your hand: Salt, Chilli powder and ground Cloves. Then, blow them away from you and out the window, focusing on pushing negative energies away.
Careful of the wind for this one or it could get messy and get chilli in your eye, and if you're using salt make sure you don't blow it over any plants as this will most likely kill them. You don't have to use much to get the effect, but still be cautious if there are any pets or animals around.
I make a little bottle of this combination of spices to have ready for when I need it, it can also be great as a bed for a black candle to give an extra protection kick.
