This was WYE.ULD!!!! I laughed, I cried, I thought it was heavy handed, I thought it was nuanced, I thought it was perfectly complex. All the love for Myra Lucretia Taylor!! Her and Raymond Anthony Thomas's storyline was beautiful and made my heart smile. So so so much about masculinity to be unpacked from this movie! Also alcoholism. I get why Sterling K Brown was nominated, wowee. Also like, I have been saying how freaking good Jeffrey Wright is!!! I also really liked Erika Alexander, who I'm not as familiar with. I was not expecting the family drama, but I did predict a couple of the twists. Overall a really deep watch with a beautiful soundtrack and great cast. Some really important exploration going on here!

ISN'T IT ROMANTIC (2019) Grade: C
The concept is a great idea. But they don't reach the potential the plot had. Still had some funny sequences. Give it a shot on a slow night. Liam Hemsworth and comedy just don't go together. That hurt the movie, no charm.

Jeffrey Dahmer: The Milwaukee Cannibal
Victims:  17-19. Steven Hicks, Steven Toumi, James Doxtator, Richard Guerrero, an unnamed 13 year old boy , Anthony Sears, Raymond Smith, Edward Smith, Ernest Miller, David Thomas, Curtis Straughter, Errol Lindsey, Tony Hughes, Konerak Sinthasomphone, Matt Turner, Jeremiah Wienberger, Oliver Lacy, Joseph Bradehoft, and Tracy Edwards.
Tumblr media
Jeffrey Dahmer, notorious serial killer/ cannibal, grew up in Bath, Ohio. Dahmer was a very active kid up until he turned four years old, that's when he became shy, and closed off out of the blue. As a child, Jeffrey's mom had suffered from depression and had attempted suicide. Then his father was preoccupied with his work and was mostly absent. Jeffery thought of his brother, David Dahmer as a competitor for his parents’ limited  attention.  Jeffrey would go find dead animals and take animals from his science class. He would take the animals and experiment on said animals. He would steal some of the dead animals from his science class Once he had found a dead dog and impaled its head upon a stick.  He would keep the animals in jars and tubs of acid. He would get the acid from his dad's work. In high school Dahmer had a group of friends that created ‘The Dahmer Fan Club’ the reason for the club is that Dahmer would joke about seizing of spazing . Later on Lionel and Joyce got divorced, due to the fact that they both charged the other with ‘extreme cruelty and gross neglect of duty.’ After the divorce Jeffrey was left alone. For the months/weeks he was living off of fast food. His compulsions around necrophilia and murder started when he was 14, some people will say that his parents divorce caused those thoughts to become actions. Jeffrey Dahmer had passed a hitchhiker by the name Steven Hicks. Steven Hicks was brought to Dahmer's house  unaware he would never be seen again. When Hicks asked to leave, Dahmer hit him with a bar-bell. Dahmer tried to dump the body in a nearby dump. Running into a cop because of his reckless driving. Dahmer came up with the excuse that he couldn't sleep and so he decided to do some chores to tire himself out. The cop believed it and told him to go home. Dahmer went back to his house and hid the body in the crawl space. Weeks or months later Dahmer crushed up the bones with a hammer and spread the pieces of bones out in his backyard .Later on, Dahmer had gone to college at The Ohio State University and dropped out after one quarter term because his alcohol addiction had gotten worse.  Dahmer's father insisted that he join the army, to which he did later in 1978. In the army he was no longer known as a prankster or a clown but as a drunk, a highly violent drunk. Dahmer had gotten arrested multiple times for public intoxication. Soon after getting arrested he was discharged from the armed forces, and moved to a hotel in Miami near the beach. After a while the cost of his alcohol  had exceeded the hotel room bill, so he stayed on the beach rather than a hotel. Dahmer called his father  saying that he needed money, to which his father insisted he move back with his grandmother. Jeffery kept a mannequin in his grandmother's house. He hid it in his closet. It didn’t take him too long to get arrested again after he moved back,  but this time it was for public indecency in front of children.  Kept a box of dismembered bodies in his room at his grandmother's house. Once his father found the box and asked what was in it, jeffery moved to his own place, apartment 213.  This apartment was the spot all of the killings happened at. Dahmer’s main hunting ground was the bath house and gay bars. Dahmer would pick up men from said bath house and would drug the men with sleeping pills. Once the owners found out what he was doing his membership was revoked, and he was never allowed to come back to said bath house. After he had been kicked out of the bath house Dahmer had moved to the gay bars, which is where most of his victims came from. His other victims believed that Dahmer just wanted more people for a photo shoot. How Jeffery Dahmer did it was that he would either  ask the victim if they wanted to be in a photo shoot or if they wanted to come back to his house, then if they agreed he would spike their drink with sleeping pills. Dahmer would then dismember them.  After that he would cook and eat them, and yes he did use seasoning. He had two victims escape, one was how he was caught.
In 1991 while on a liquor run the victim got out and ran to a nearby police car and told the officer everything, how he was kidnapped and what Dahmer told him he was going to do. The police later broke into dahmer's house and found all of the bodies in the fridge, in a barrel, and on the floor. The police had taken everything out of his house.(his fridge is actually now in a murder museum)  When dahmer was caught he was in the middle of building an altar out of the skulls of his victims. After Dahmer was arrested they made everyone move and demolished the apartment complex because of how disgusting the crime scene was and how horrible the smell of the apartment was.
Jeffery Dahmer's trial started january 30th, 1992. Dahmer requested not to wear his glasses so he didn’t have to see his victims' families.  He was trialed for 15 counts of first degree murder before judge laurence gram in Milwakee. When he was confessing it sounded like he was bragging about having killed all of those people, like he was proud of doing what he did. The trial was around one hour, thirty three minutes and forty three seconds.
The two following weeks of trial the court declared him sane and guilty on fifteen counts of murder, he was sentanced to 15 life terms with a total of 957 years in prison. He was arrested on july 22, 1991.  November 28, 1994 (approximately 3 years and 5 months) he was killed by one of his inmates, Christopher Scarver. He was hit with a bar-bell and his throat was slit with a toothbrush with a razor tied to the end and beaten to death. Dahmer’s ashes where soon split among  his parents.

i went to a used book sale today... procured:
railroad color history: new york central railroad (brian solomon & mike schafer) — i'm not actually that into trains but it appealed to me.
the complete guide to the soviet union (jennifer louis & victor louis) — travel guide from 1980
an anthology including the big sleep (raymond chandler), "the undignified melodrama of the bone of contention" (dorothy l. sayers), "the arrow of god" (leslie charteris), "i can find my way out" (ngaio marsh), instead of evidence (rex stout), "rift in the loot" (stuart palmer & craig rice), "the man who explained miracles" (john dickson carr), & rebecca (daphne du maurier) (i already have this one..) — it's volume 2 of something (a treasury of great mysteries) which annoys me but whatever
an anthology including "godmother tea" (selena anderson), "the apartment" (t. c. boyle), "a faithful but melancholy account of several barbarities lately committed" (jason brown), "sibling rivalry" (michael byers), "the nanny" (emma cline), "halloween" (mariah crotty), "something street" (carolyn ferrell), "this is pleasure" (mary gaitskill), "in the event" (meng jin), "the children" (andrea lee), "rubberdust" (sarah thankam mathews), "it's not you" (elizabeth mccracken), "liberté" (scott nandelson), "howl palace" (leigh newman), "the nine-tailed fox explains" (jane pek), "the hands of dirty children" (alejandro puyana), "octopus vii" (anna reeser), "enlightenment" (william pei shih), "kennedy" (kevin wilson), & "the special world" (tiphanie yanique) — i guess they're all short stories published in 2020 by usamerican/canadian authors
an anthology including the death of ivan ilyich (leo tolstoy) (i have already read this one..), the beast in the jungle (henry james), heart of darkness (joseph conrad), seven who were hanged (leonid andreyev), abel sánchez (miguel de unamuno), the pastoral symphony (andré gide), mario and the magician (thomas mann), the old man (william faulkner), the stranger (albert camus), & agostino (alberto moravia)
the ambassadors (henry james)
the world book desk reference set: book of nations — it's from 1983 so this is kind of a history book...
yet another fiction anthology......... including the general's ring (selma lagerlöf), "mowgli's brothers" (rudyard kipling), "the gift of the magi" (o. henry) (i have already read this one..), "lord mountdrago" (w. somerset maugham), "music on the muscatatuck" (jessamyn west), "the pacing goose" (jessamyn west), "the birds" (daphne du maurier), "the man who lived four thousand years" (alexandre dumas), "the pope's mule" (alphonse daudet), "the story of the late mr. elvesham" (h. g. wells), "the blue cross" (g. k. chesterton), portrait of jennie (robert nathan), "la grande bretèche" (honoré de balzac), "love's conundrum" (anthony hope), "the great stone face" (nathaniel hawthorne), "germelshausen" (friedrich gerstäcker), "i am born" (charles dickens), "the legend of sleepy hollow" (washington irving), "the age of miracles" (melville davisson post), "the long rifle" (stewart edward white), "the fall of the house of usher" (edgar allan poe) (i have already read this one..), the voice of bugle ann (mackinlay kantor), the bridge of san luis rey (thornton wilder), "basquerie" (eleanor mercein kelly), "judith" (a. e. coppard), "a mother in mannville" (marjorie kinnan rawlings), "kerfol" (edith wharton), "the last leaf" (o. henry), "the bloodhound" (arthur train), "what the old man does is always right" (hans christian anderson), the sea of grass (conrad richter), "the sire de malétroit's door" (robert louis stevenson), "the necklace" (guy de maupassant) (i have already read this one..), "by the waters of babylon" (stephen vincent benét), a. v. laider (max beerbohm), "the pillar of fire" (percival wilde), "the strange will" (edmond about), "the hand at the window" (emily brontë) (i have already read this one..), & "national velvet" (enid bagnold) — why are seven of these chapters of novels....? anyway fun fact one of the compilers here also worked on the aforementioned mystery anthology. also anyway Why did i bother to write all that ☹️
fundamental problems of marxism (georgi plekhanov) — book about dialectical/historical materialism which is published here as the first volume of something (marxist library) which is kind of odd to me tbh
one last (thankfully tiny) anthology including le père goriot (honoré de balzac) & eugénie grandet (honoré de balzac)
