Okay so I'm like super sorry but I don't really read unrequited fics because they will just make me cry, but I have some "not actually unrequited love" fics which I will share instead :/

B-theory of Time by by Dokkaebi King (42k) It was never supposed to happen. He was never supposed to be here.  Despite all the plans he concocted, all the contingencies he committed to memory, Bruce could have never been prepared for this. What had started out as a Christmas party he'd been tricked into attending, and a night where he'd believed the hardest thing he'd have to deal with was Shayera killing Wally over Mario Kart, turned into an abundance of moments where Clark backed him into a verbal corner and made his heart want things it couldn't have. Oh yeah, and then there was the time travel. An attack by renegade, sentient light later, and Batman found himself on Krypton. Then in Jor-El's custody. And that somehow segued into him becoming a baby Kal-El's nanny by day, a man desperately trying to save Krypton by night. This was why Bruce Wayne hated Christmas.

I haven't read this one in a while but I remember it being super good and Bruce thinks his love is unrequited.

Padam Padam by frozenpotions (7k) Batman's heartbeat keeps speeding up whenever Clark is around. For instance: when Clark greets him, half-naked, on a Gotham rooftop. Or when he uses his superstrength to save a busload of schoolchildren. Or sometimes even just when he smiles. Clearly the poor man is terrified of him.

(I also recommend batman’s POV to this story, What a Tangled Web We Weave)

running backwards (is the only way forward) by soetry (8k) Bruce gets hit in battle, forgets everything about being Batman, and adopts the entire personality and characteristics of his idiotic playboy persona. To get his memories back, someone has to get rather intimate with him.  And really, Clark is the only one for the task.

Fengqing Fic Recs!!!

I have been in a writing slump recently and have been doing a lot of reading instead—so here are some fics I've thoroughly enjoyed this past week! <3

Xie Lian sets Mu Qing up on a blind date and things go much better than expected.

This one is so sweet I've just had it open in my tabs for literal days. Super soft fengqing and some implied smut but mainly just some really lovely first-date shenanigans.

Scarier Than the Undertaker, We Are Meeting Our Matchmaker by foxfeast (e, 23.6k words - canon compliant)

While investigating bizarre happenings in his territory, Mu Qing finds himself trapped in a domain that strips him of his spiritual energy and his robes—and there's only one way to get out: sex.

This one has it all: (stealth) trans Mu Qing; requited unrequited love; tender love and sweet devotion; some of the softest fengqing interactions I've ever read; and gentle—passionate—sex. I basically wrote a book review in comment form, that's how much I loved this one.

Summary: When Tony's relationship turns out to be a recipe for disaster, a chance encounter with a Brooklyn baker serves up something sweet.

Reasons why I love it: Everything about this fic just makes me so happy. It's fluffy and soft and everything I need when I'm having a not-so-good day. Tony and Steve are both so lovely, and the way they deal with their long-distance relationship just makes me really happy. They truly deserve each other. If you like romance and schmoop, this fic is definitely a must-read!

The Three-Date Opportunity by Annie D (scaramouche)

Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: T Words: 18,308 Tags: Getting Together, Unrequited to Requited, Avengers Tower

Summary: Tony gets three dates to win over a skeptical Steve. Three, no more and no less.

Reasons why I love it: The whole premise of this fic is already so much fun. It really feels like this could be the plot of a romantic comedy. Tony's masterplan for flirting with Steve is really adorable, and I love the way it all gets flipped on its head towards the end of the fic. It's wonderful, and if you haven't read this one yet, I hope you give it a shot!

Tony’s fearless approach helps Steve break out of his comfort zone, and Steve’s solid grounding helps Tony focus on what matters. This promotional tour is a new experience for Tony, but with Steve’s help, his learning curve isn’t so steep. Steve’s learning curve, on the other hand, is life changing.

Reasons why I love it: Steve's internal struggle with figuring out his feelings for Tony is so good! And oh my god, the puppy interview is the cutest thing ever. In general, the interviews and show excerpts are super fun to see, I love the non-linear storytelling format. And the moment that they finally get together is absolutely perfect. This fic is wonderful, and you should definitely read it!

Ideally with humor and an interesting plot. Good characterization is a must. I love pining, (believable) misunderstandings, requited “unrequited” love, accidental closeness (i.e. “oh no, we got handcuffed together 😳”), and first kisses!

Smut is fine, but I don’t want smut without plot. 9/10 times, I enjoy reading the pining/tension before the smut way more than the smut. 😅

He’s the blurred edges of a photograph. He’s a heartbeat and stinging lungs. He’s the rattling behind Remus’ ribcage. And Sirius grins at him, tongue between teeth —illecebrous and tantalising and all things beautiful and dangerous— and all the air rushes out of Remus’ lungs in one fell swoop. He’s lightheaded and dizzy and burning.

An absolute gem, this one. In which the first wizarding war is on the rise, but the boys are flatmates and they go grocery shopping!! The jealousy and pining is perfect.

Heat the Winter Floods + A Little Sincerity Is a Dangerous Thing, by daphnaea (6k)

It was funny, Sirius thought, the things you could fail to learn about your best mate despite sharing a dormitory for seven years.

A story of pining for you flatmate, in two parts. Set during the first war, it’s slightly angsty but oh so lovely and well-written.

Where Sirius is hopelessly in love with Remus Lupin who is always just a little out of reach. But their friends with benefits situation isn't sustainable, Remus is so close yet so far away and Sirius doesn't know if he can take it anymore.

Once again, they live together and are friends with benefits. Lots of pining, jealousy and idiocy follows, as well as a sort of “break-up”. This is quite angsty, very much a “requited unrequited love” kind of fic (which I LOVE).

That didn’t stop him from glancing over the top of the paper to where he stood at the edge of the hallway. He was frozen in the way you froze just before you kicked off the ground on your broom. Right before a runner pushed off the block. Right before you dove off a cliff into the sea. Frozen with the promise of movement about to burst forth.

Sirius watched him, holding his breath.

“You’re lying.”

Short and sweet, less angst and more fluff!

Remus is nineteen and tired, now. And he knows that if he and Sirius were ever going to become anything—if Sirius loved Remus the way Remus loves, and will probably always love, him—it already would’ve happened.

Another fic that proves that this trope is the absolute best. In which Remus is a stubborn prick (we love him) who refuses to move in with Sirius — but in the end he has no choice. There’s arguing, hurt feelings, and a stupid amount of pining. And, let’s now forget, the writing is out of this world lovely. Ridi’s characterisation of Remus is to die for. A must read!

Don't Make Me Beg For You (Because I'll Beg For You), by CuriousMay (14k)

After an hour of painstaking Googling, he learns that it’s a Texas bluebonnet. He also learns what the fact that he’s coughing up petals means – the beginning stages of Hanahaki Disease. Rare, but not unheard of, according to the NHS website he browses in an incognito tab. Common in royal bloodlines (thank you, inbreeding). "Only curable if the afflicted’s love is requited with a declaration," he reads, and slams his laptop closed with a bitter laugh, wet with tears. "A surgical procedure removing the afflicted’s capacity for love may be performed if the love remains unrequited. Otherwise, the condition is terminal." So, then. He has no chance.

Patient is wearing a red jacket and a black knit cap and states his name is – ” there’s a burst of static over the radio. “Please repeat the patient’s name,” Henry says into the headset mic as Schlosser programs the mountain’s location into the GPS. There’s a bit more static, and then the dispatcher states, “Alexander Claremont-Diaz.” (Or, a movieverse canon divergent AU wherein Henry is in the RAF and Cakegate still takes place, but the PR campaign doesn't happen – and two months after Cakegate, Alex does something dumb on a mountain in Scotland.)
