It was hot.
The ceiling fan was humming on max speed, chain clinking against the glass. Blankets were kicked off and hanging off the bed but it was still hot.
Probably because of the lanky monkey curled around you.
Wukong had been in a cuddly mood last night and it stuck with him in his sleep. His breath against the top of your head was steady and even, you hummed as your free hand rubbed his side, the fingers of the other trapped under his neck curling in his fur.
Wukong shifted and pressed his head against yours, still asleep. His own hands pulling you closer. You huffed softly as you began to sweat, finally joining Wukong.
You were uncomfortable.
It was hot.
…five more minutes.

Having Wukong as a roommate was a nice change. Strange, but nice. He was very open, playful, and loved to learn about the various appliances and devices in your home.
The TV was his favorite. The pictures moved! And made sounds! More often than not you had to drag the surprisingly heavy monkey away from right in front of the TV and onto the couch. (Not surprisingly heavy, you just keep forgetting he’s made of stone.)
He never fought it. He’d just grin and laugh at your struggle. Then pester you to exercise with him, if moving him was such a workout for you.
That was another bonus, living with Wukong made your life healthier. He’d trick you into exercising by playing games (making you chase him around the house, surprise wrestling matches), your diet became healthier because it was easier to buy and cook for one diet.
The best part was that he was such a happy person. Yeah, there were times he was sad for being away from his home for so long, but you helped him through it each time. Living with him helped you learn to communicate better.
Wukong living with you changed both of your lives, and he was your best friend.
(You wanted him to be able to go back home to his monkeys, even if the thought hurt so, so terribly.)

Jason, Roy and Kory going at the undercover mission in some five stars hotel to find some rich fucker, who is responsible for trafficking rings, and the closer they get to the reception to reserve a room, the more Jason turns in a stuck-up rich boy, who for a some reason has a British accent and a perfect rich laugh. Roy and Kory are flabbergasted. Who it is and where their boyfailure just went?
Jason, standing in the circle of the men: Oh, yeah, this is just me there, and my two companions. Roy and Kory: (wave awkwardly) One of the men: Companions? Jason, waving him off with a little girlish cocktail in his hands with a small paper parasol in it: You know, my father used to call people like this... Playthings. You know, gentlemen, a week of skiing and in hot springs... Ha-Ha-Ha. The group of men: Ha-Ha-Ha. Roy and Kory, silently exchanging glances: ...
Roy: I don't know if we should be concerned about your ability to play along with this cover or not. Jason, groaning, completely embarrassed: How it is my fault? I spent a lot of time staring at Bruce and his friends as a kid. Kory: Explains a lot. Honestly. Roy: ...That's terrifying. I can imagine you hanging out with Ollie just fine. Jason: Dude. Kory: Don't get him anywhere near Oliver. One drink, and he will confuse him with Bruce and will try to make out with him. Jason: GIRL. Roy: A one would call it muscular memory... Jason, fleeing the room: I HATE YOU BOTH.
(A beat of silence) Roy: You think he went to get himself more of these fancy cocktails and giggle with random dudes near the swimming pool? Kory: You too think that he secretly likes these drinks, but pretends to be more into beer? Roy: ...Yeah. Roy and Kory: (snickering)

Before Jason makes his debut as Red Hood, he goes apartment hunting.
And the thing about Gotham is, all of the apartments that would make for good safe houses, are safe houses. The Bat’s safe houses. If Jason wants to set up shop, he’s got to get creative. This means being willing to look the other way about some things. Namely, living with other people.
Jason gets a roommate.
Sure, he’d found a couple of spots that fit some of the criteria he used for making safe houses, but not all apartments were equal. And having a semi-functioning civilian cover was useful. Sometimes.
All this to say that Jason responded to a craigslist post of some guy looking for a roommate. The post was written well enough, decent grammar and a fair enough price. Unlike some of the places he’d “toured.”
He has to trudge up a few flights of stairs to get to the place, because roof access is always high on the priority list, and knocks on the door. He waits a few minutes, hears someone check the peephole, and then the sound of at least five separate locks being undone.
With the door finally open, he gets a good look at the guy’s face. Too good of a look, actually.
Because the man who opens it is Dick Grayson.
#jason todd#dick grayson#red hood#nightwing#batman#does dick recognize him? either way hijinks ensue#jason and dick as roommates both trying to live cheap af vigilante lifestyles without taking bruce’s money#dick’s undercover on a long op with bruce and needs a trackable identity to convince whoever to recruit him#jason doesn’t know this. what he does know is that dick lives off cereal and dirty socks and he refuses to live like this#dick thinks it’s either a coincidence his roommate looks/acts like his dead brother or that he’s been made and someone is trying to prove#he’s a wayne to blow his cover. lex is high on his list for his ability to make clones. jason honestly can’t tell if dick thinks it’s him#and tries to hide that he’s back. both of them are in subtly trying to get the other to admit something#all it takes is one old nickname slip up and the cats outta the bag#also angst because dick convinces jason he was missed and he tried to avenge him when he realizes he’s not a clone#i think these two would be hilarious roommates. does the pit make an appearance at all?#maybe someone genuinely tries to break into their shitty apartment and jason breaks the guys arm because he sees someone enter dick’s room#that isn’t his brother. they keep odd hours and jason is trying to build his criminal empire.#at least one of them comes back beaten up and needs stitches. where they’re in the kitchen fixing the other up while they both ignore#they’ve figured the other out. it comes to a head when they’re both out and nightwing needs to be brought back to the cave#so hood goes on their comms and summons the batclan to come get him.#also ft. jason’s ptsd ridden ass and nightwing’s stellar comedy#batsiblings#batbros#batfamily
