Part 2 to This Post : Aligning Fears to the MDZS cast the squeakual. I also redid some of them bc I had some very interesting points brought up to me.
Wei Wuxian - The Corruption. That boi is Possessed(tm). Also a little bit of The Vast given a certain fall/falls off of cliffs.
Jiang Yanli - The Desolation. She gives me Very Big Agnes vibes so she belongs w the Desolation. maybe it's the fact that her love for her brothers was so strong she died to protect them.
Nie Mingjue - Also The Corruption. Literally his mind is being corrupted by his saber???
Jiang Cheng - Still the Slaughter but also kinda the lonely. I dare you to tell me that after his whole family died except for his nephew + he never married or had kids that he ISNT lonely.
Wen Chao - I'm torn between the Slaughter and the Flesh, as he wanted Wei Wuxian's hand but also was super into senselessly killing the Jiangs.
Wen Zhuliu - The Flesh. Core Melting Hand that does irreperable damage to a person? Sounds like the flesh to me.
Wang Lingjiao - The Desolation, but also a little bit of The Flesh. Girlie tried BRANDING someone + burned down a sect. Arsonist bitch.
Wen Ruohan - The Corruption. C'monnnnn. Resentful Energy does what Resentful Energy does best which is corrupt people.
Jin Zixuan - The Spiral speaks to me abt him. I Don't Know Why. Again, maybe it's because he reminds me of Michael, being sacrificed to die by a person you trusted for your own personal gain.
Jin Guangshan - The Flesh but also The Corruption. Him being graped to death is very Flesh of him. but he was also corrupted by the thought of the Stygian Tiger Amlulet. Yin Tiger Seal. Whatever it is.
Jiang Fengmian - The Lonely. He is a sad, sad lonely man who lost his best friends/the people he cherished the most & was stuck in a loveless(?) marriage.
Yu Ziyuan - The Slaughter. Literally whipping Weu Wuxian relentlessly & being constantly harsh around people is so Slaughter of her.
I know there's still a few people left but I cannot think of what suits them best so I will leave it to a third part.

Summary: New Year becomes "take your fake boyfriend to your shady businesses" day for Wen Ruohan because his sons made an oopsie, and picking them up from the police station (and discovering their own plans for the celebration) was just the beginning of his heartheadache.
Characters: Meng Yao, Su Minshan, Wen Ruohan, Wen Xu, Wen Chao, Wang Lingjiao
We are continnuing with the holidays chapters bc there's some stuff happening before MY goes to celebrate Chinese New Year with the Jins, and it's all about Family Emotions(tm).
Also teaching MY how to handle mafia-ish ventures, so little warnings for threats of violence, hush money and mentions of fights.

Wen Ruohan shouldn’t drink caffeinated coffee because of his blood pressure. He ignores this advice.
Wen Xu has yet to find somewhere that serves americanos to his exceedingly high standards.
Whatever Wen Chao orders, the barista has ‘made it wrong’. There are several cafes that simply will not serve him anymore.
Wang Lingjao orders things that aren’t on the menu on purpose.

The Untamed Tournament of Death
It's time for another tournament! This time, who was your favorite death? It can be because you were happy to see them go, it ripped your heart out and did a little dancey dance on it, or any other reason their death was your favorite.
I'm gonna say it now - there will be spoilers pertaining to which characters are dead by the end of the show. If you don't want those spoilers, avoid this tournament like the plague. This is the only post where the spoilers will go under a break and I don't want anyone to be upset with me for it. (idk why you'd follow me anyway if you hadn't either seen the show or read the books, but you do you)
Anyway, without further ado, here is the bracket for the first round!
Tumblr media
All of the opponents are randomly generated and I decided to leave Wei Wuxian out of the tournament for fairness since I thought he'd have an advantage. The polls will go live tomorrow so get your voting pants on! (or don't, I'm not in charge of what pants you wear)

Catch Up My Prince. 6-7
Story: 6
Acting: 10
Chemistry: 10
Comparable to: Go and Domain Your Game (cdrama); Unique Lady (cdrama); Love 020 (cdrama)
Probably top tier of storyline being so messed not making a lick of sense, especially in the beginning episodes. It takes a handful of episodes at least to episode eight where the storyline takes a bit of form, but nothing really still connects with lots of plot holes. What draws you in though is the phenomenal chemistry between the main leads, for me especially Liu Yichang is a huge highlight in this. The rest of the cast is amazing as well. I love the whole dynamic of all of them together.

assessing select MDZS ships by how many Jin Ling Uncles they add to the existing set
currently, the recognized set of Jin Ling Uncles seems to be as follows: [jiang cheng, jin guangyao, qin su (aunt), mo xuanyu, wei wuxian, lan wangji, lan xichen, nie mingjue, nie huaisang]
in recognizing an individual as a Jin Ling Uncle, the fandom appears to use the following set of rules:
Rule 1: the biological siblings or half-siblings of jin ling's mother and father are Jin Ling Uncles (or aunts).
Rule 2: an individual recognized by jin ling's mother or father as a sibling, regardless of legal status or biological relation, is a Jin Ling Uncle (or aunt).
Rule 3: the spouse of a recognized Jin Ling Uncle (or aunt) is a Jin Ling Uncle (or aunt).
Rule 4: the sworn siblings of a recognized Jin Ling Uncle (or aunt) are Jin Ling Uncles (or aunts).
Rule 5: the biological siblings or half-siblings of a recognized Jin Ling Uncle (or aunt) are Jin Ling Uncles (or aunts).
these 5 rules explain why all of the above listed individuals can be described as Jin Ling Uncles (and aunts):
Rule 1: jiang cheng jin guangyao, mo xuanyu, unknown number of jin guangshan's other bastards
Rule 2: wei wuxian
Rule 3: qin su, lan wangji
Rule 4: lan xichen, nie mingjue
Rule 5: lan wangji, nie huaisang
with these rules in mind, i shall now assess a select number of popular MDZS ships by how many Jin Ling Uncles (or aunts) said ship being consummated adds to the existing set of Jin Ling Uncles. for the sake of argument, let us consider "consummation" as used in the previous sentence to entail legally recognized marriage, on the same level as what wangxian achieves at the end of canon. affairs are not enough to make an individual a Jin Ling Uncle.
wangxian wang and xian are already Jin Ling Uncles, wei wuxian by virtue of being recognized by jiang yanli as a brother, and lan wangji by virtue of being the brother of the sworn brother of jin guangyao, jin zixuan's half-brother. uncles+0
xicheng xi and cheng are already Jin Ling Uncles, jiang cheng by virtue of being jiang yanli's brother, and lan xichen by virtue of being the sworn brother of jin guangyao. uncles+0
sangcheng sang and cheng are already Jin Ling Uncles, nie huaisang by virtue of being the brother of the sworn brother of jin guangyao. uncles+0
chengyao cheng and yao are already Jin Ling Uncles. however, chengyao officially getting together entails jin guangyao divorcing qin su, meaning that Rule 3 no longer applies to her. uncles+0, aunts-1
xiyao xi and yao are already Jin Ling Uncles. however, xiyao officially getting together entails jin guangyao divorcing qin su. uncles+0, aunts-1
nieyao nie and yao are already Jin Ling Uncles, nie mingjue by virtue of being jin guangyao's sworn brother. however, nieyao officially getting together entails jin guangyao divorcing qin su. uncles+0, aunts-1
3zun the same reasoning given for xiyao and nieyao also applies here. uncles+0, aunts-1
nielan nie and lan are already Jin Ling Uncles. uncles+0
suyao su minshan is currently not a Jin Ling Uncle, but officially getting together with jin guangyao would make him one by Rule 3. however, suyao officially getting together entails jin guangyao divorcing qin su. uncles+1, aunts-1
susu su minshan is currently not a Jin Ling Uncle. if su minshan and qin su get married, that entails qin su divorcing jin guangyao, meaning that Rule 3 no longer applies to her. uncles+0, aunts-1
sangyao sang and yao are already Jin Ling Uncles. however, sangyao officially getting together entails jin guangyao divorcing qin su. uncles+0, aunts-1
ruoyao wen ruohan is currently not a Jin Ling Uncle, but officially getting together with meng yao would make him one by Rule 3. however, ruoyao officially getting together entails that meng yao never married qin su. uncles+1, aunts-1
xueyao xue yang is currently not a Jin Ling Uncle, but officially getting together with jin guangyao would make him one by Rule 3. however, xueyao officially getting together entails jin guangyao divorcing qin su. uncles+1, aunts-1
chengning wen ning is currently not a Jin Ling Uncle, but officially getting together with jiang cheng would make him one by Rule 3. following wen ning's admission as a Jin Ling Uncle, by Rule 5, wen ning's sister wen qing becomes a Jin Ling Aunt as well. uncles+1, aunts+1
chengqing wen qing is currently not a Jin Ling Aunt, but officially getting together with jiang cheng would make her one by Rule 3. following wen qing's admission as a Jin Ling Uncle, by Rule 5, wen qing's brother wen ning becomes a Jin Ling Uncle as well. uncles+1, aunts+1
ningxian wen ning is currently not a Jin Ling Uncle, but officially getting together with wei wuxian would make him one by Rule 3. following wen ning's admission as a Jin Ling Uncle, by Rule 5, wen qing becomes a Jin Ling Aunt. while ningxian getting together entails wei wuxian divorcing lan wangji, lan wangji is still a Jin Ling Uncle by Rule 5. uncles+1, aunts+1
chengxian cheng and xian are already Jin Ling Uncles. while chengxian getting together entails wei wuxian divorcing lan wangji, lan wangji is still a Jin Ling Uncle by Rule 5. uncles+0
zhanchengxian zhan, cheng, and xian are all already Jin Ling Uncles. uncles+0
rencheng lan qiren is currently not a Jin Ling Uncle, but officially getting together with jiang cheng would make him one by Rule 3. following lan qiren's admission as a Jin Ling Uncle, by Rule 5, lan qiren's brother qingheng-jun posthumously becomes a Jin Ling Uncle as well. following qingheng-jun's admission as a Jin Ling Uncle, by Rule 3, qingheng-jun's wife madam lan posthumously becomes a Jin Ling Aunt as well. uncles+2, aunts+1
chengyi lan jingyi is currently not a Jin Ling Uncle, but officially getting together with jiang cheng would make him one by Rule 3. uncles+1
juniors swear brotherhood + subsequent chengyi lan jingyi is currently not a Jin Ling Uncle, but officially getting together with jiang cheng would make him one by Rule 3. if the juniors have all sworn brotherhood already, then all of the juniors become Jin Ling Uncles by Rule 4. uncles+4, jin ling becomes his own uncle.

Wei Wuxian, worst supervillain by antebunny

Wei Wuxian, worst supervillain
by antebunny (@antebunny)
G, 3k, Wangxian
Summary: Lan Wangji has never met a worse supervillain. He finds this rather remarkable considering that he has, during his tenure as Hanguang-jun, fought quite a large number of villains. Certainly some of them, like Wen Ruohan’s two successors, Wen Xu and Wen Chao, lacked style, as did Su She and Jin Zixun. But what they lacked in style, each and every one of them made up for in sheer villany. Even Wang Lingjiao didn’t hesitate to kick a puppy she saw on the street. The Yiling Patriarch, on the other hand. Well. Mojo's comments: Adorable. Excerpt: It’s on a stormy night that Lan Wangji finds the Yiling Patriarch leaning against the side of a building, deep in some alleyway, clutching his side with one hand. His breath comes out in erratic bursts, and his sopping wet hair runs down his face and his back like ink down a brush. His silver eyes are dull when he sees Lan Wangji land lightly on the paved ground, clear umbrella held above his head, moonlight filtering through the plastic. They barely register shock, or fear, or anything else. The Yiling Patriarch slowly pulls his hand away from his ribs, lets both of them hang by his side. Black liquid drips off his hands like ink onto paper. “Have you ever seen blood in the moonlight, Lan Wangji?” The Yiling Patriarch asks. “It appears…” He lifts his hands. Raindrops pelt his palms, rinsing away the dark liquid. “…Quite black.” Lan Wangji looks at him. The Yiling Patriarch tilts his head back, closes his eyes. He lets rain pelt his face as well, as if it could wash him away. “No one at the prison died,” he says. “There’s that, at least,” the Yiling Patriarch murmurs after a pause.
pov lan wangji, modern setting, secret identities, superheroes/superpowers, fluff, attempt at humor, light angst, tooth-rotting fluff, crack treated seriously, superhero lan wangji, supervillain wei wuxian

WujiWatch: CQL Rewatch Episode 23
Long time, no WujiWatch! But I’ve been reading Catching Chen Qing Ling and it’s put me in an analytical mood about The Untamed again. Picking up where we left off...
Episode 23 has at least two iconic Wangxian scenes: Lan Wangji’s visit to a recovering Wei Wuxian’s sickbed to play Clarity, and the “I am not Wen Ruohan” conversation on the same clifftop where they will meet again in the last moments of Wei Wuxian’s (first) life. One thing I didn’t realize until this rewatch is the way those two scenes are tied together; that the second one picks up, thematically, where the first one left off.
The Clarity scene is interrupted by the screams of Wens being rounded up (and perhaps killed on the spot) and the shouts of their pursuers. Wei Wuxian immediately looks disturbed and asks what’s going on; Lan Wangji says, “they’re hunting down the rest of the Wens” and looks not disturbed at all. I am very good at interpreting Wang Yibo’s microexpressions by now, and this dude is 0% bothered. That is especially striking since the very next scene is all about (among other things) Lan Xichen being very disturbed at the prospect of murdering Wen civilians. By this point in the drama, Lan Wangji has made some progress toward moral nuance—but it’s all specifically Wei Wuxian-focused. His view of the rest of the world is still very black and white. The Wens are bad, so it’s appropriate for bad things to happen to them. End of story.
That’s how the Clarity scene ends, and then, as mentioned, we have the scene where 3zun and Jin Guangshan debate the treatment of the surviving Wens. After that, we have the clifftop scene—and what I’d forgotten is that the first line of dialogue in this scene is Wei Wuxian asking Lan Wangji, “What do you think of the people here [in Nightless City]? Who is good and who is bad?” The fate of the defeated Wens is still very much on Wei Wuxian’s mind. And it’s still a matter of no concern for Lan Wangji: he ignores Wei Wuxian’s question. He doesn’t want to talk about the larger events happening in Nightless City – he only wants to talk about, and help, Wei Wuxian. This foreshadows the scene in the rain at Qiongqi Dao – the moment when the hero of the common people looks at a group of starving, abused civilians and says to Wei Wuxian, in effect, Let them die—because otherwise, I’ll lose you.
(One other note from this episode that passed me by in every prior viewing, although maybe everyone else knew it: Lan Wangji knows the Yin Tiger Seal is made out of Yin Iron, very early on. In the clifftop scene, Wei Wuxian admits the sword he found in the Xuanwu Cave was made of Yin Iron and that he refined the Yin Tiger Seal out of it (albeit in one of his bullshit “What if I told you…” phrasings), and Lan Wangji confirms that he knows by asking, “Since you knew it was Yin Iron, why did you use/refine it?” While everyone else in the drama is resorting to innuendo and suspicion—and while Wei Wuxian is denying it to everyone else—Lan Wangji knew the truth all along.)
