A quick-ish guide to the culture of The Sims 2 modding community.
Are you new to The Sims 2 community? Are you coming from more modern games, either in The Sims franchise itself or other contemporary games? Are you excited to start your #brand and become a #simfluencer and post your #earlyaccesscontent to support your #sidehustle?
Have a seat, then! Let's chat.
Hello, friend! My name's Pooklet. I've been playing since 2004 and creating since 2007. I'm by no means an expert in most forms of content creation itself, but I've been around since the heyday of The Sims 2, I've watched how community opinions have shifted (or not) since practically the beginning, and I'm hoping to give you a basic outline of the community culture that you can expect to encounter as a newcomer.
A very brief history of Sims 2 content monetization:
People have been trying to monetize content since there has been content to monetize, all the way back in the days of The Sims 1. We tend to call them "pay creators" and their websites "paysites." Some big names in this arena include The Sims Resource (their free-with-ads model is a relatively recent development, which is why you will find people to this day calling them T$R), PeggySims, Newsea, and many others that you can find on this handy website:
Paysites Must Be Destroyed
Now, if you have a glance at that website, you might be saying to yourself:
"But, that's illegal! I own the copyright to my custom content!"
Alas, no! Due to the wording of the End User License Agreement for The Sims 2, no custom content creator owns their creations for this game (or The Sims 1, or 3, or 4, for that matter, but we're talking about 2 right now). It all belongs to EA at the end of the day, and by installing and playing the game, you have agreed to these terms. Which means you have no individual, protected copyright, and it is perfectly legal for someone to download your paywalled content and then reupload it for free for others to enjoy. And they will!
Furthermore,
You are not making anything alone.
Everything from modding resources, to tutorials, to the mods required to fix disastrous glitches in the game code and make it playable at all, to the third party programs used to make any and all custom content, such as SimPE—all of these have been provided to you for free by other creators, many of whom have a usage policy that asks that people not use their freely-provided tools to make a profit. Although no one can be forced to follow a creator's policy, it is generally considered good manners to not try to make a profit off of someone else's free work. And if you are using these tools to make paywalled content, that's exactly what you're doing.
Pay creators have been ignoring these policies since the beginning of time, and so free creators likewise ignore their policies against sharing their paywalled content. Pay creators have also tried lots of different ways to keep their content exclusive, everything from trying to track leaks with slightly altered files to actively filling their content with malicious code. It has never worked.
Free creators have always found a way around these barriers. In fact, it's taken as something of a challenge to undermine monetization efforts. As you can see from Paysites Must Be Destroyed, there are entire teams of players devoted to reuploading paywalled content for free.
A culture of sharing.
The Sims 2 is something of a time capsule. At 20 years old, it predates a lot of the hyper-capitalist hustle culture that has infested every creative hobby. It is from a time when monetization was an outlier rather than the norm, and a much maligned outlier at that. This attitude has persisted for 20 years. Believe me when I say, you won't be the combo breaker. Especially now, given that The Sims 2 is not the most contemporary in the series and the community has shrunk considerably, down to the people who have either been here for a very long time, or newcomers that understand the community culture.
Also, it's just kind of not a great idea in general to try to make money off of a 20-year-old game with a pretty small community?
Like, I get that The Sims 4 is really saturated with pay creators and it's hard to get a foot in the door. I get that you might look at The Sims 2 and think that the small pond will give you room to be a big fish. It won't. You might get a handful of people willing to pay for your content, but at least one of those people will be resharing it for free.
Paywalls vs. optional donations.
Okay, so hopefully you now understand why people don't like it when you put content behind a paywall. But what about those Ko-fi and Paypal donation links you sometimes see at the bottom of people's downloads? Why is that okay, but a locked Patreon tier isn't? Well, because they're voluntary. No one is obligated to pay for that content to be able to download and use it. It's just a way for someone who does have a little extra cash to basically "tip" a creator whose content they like. You have no way of knowing whether the person who posts those links is actually receiving any donations. And that's kind of the point. Whether or not they receive any donations, they are still sharing their content, because they enjoy the hobby of making and sharing content.
"I can't make a living off of that!"
No, you can't. Because that's not what we do here. That is not part of our community culture for all the above reasons. If you want to make a reliable income off of your hobby, you're going to need to get a different hobby. Try Second Life! That is a community that actively encourages monetization. The Sims 4 allows for "early access" monetization. There's options out there for you, if what you want is to make a profit off of your creations for a game.
"Fine, what about monetized link forwarding services?"
Link forwarding services historically have malicious trackers or viruses embedded. People will also strip those and provide direct links to each other. Or they just won't download your content.
"What if I want to make YouTube videos of someone else's written tutorials and I enable ad revenue on them?"
Personally, I still think that's a dick move. I love video tutorials, I'm a very visual learner myself, and although you might feel entitled to compensation for reciting the steps of someone else's tutorial into a microphone and then editing and uploading the video, you're still monetizing someone else's freely-provided content. I would consider this an 'ask permission' scenario, one in which you tell the person, explicitly, that you will be making ad revenue off their work. If they're fine with that, then you're good! (For the record, I'm not fine with that.)
edit: more of of my thoughts on monetized youtube videos over here.
"What if—"
Look, no one can stop you from trying to monetize your content, or worse, someone else's content. But you will have the exact same arc as every pay creator who came before you: your efforts will be undermined at every turn, your reception in the greater community will be chilly at best, and it will become a battle between you and the folks resharing free reuploads of your content until any fun you initially had making content is gone.
"The steady erosion of every known social safety net beneath the crippling weight of end-stage, line-goes-up capitalism and the yawning abyss of poverty over which I am dangling has imbued me with such anxiety that I cannot engage with a hobby that precludes monetization. I am exhausted. I know no other way."
I get it, friend! I have lived in poverty all my life. I do not begrudge the impulse to find a way to make passive income off of your every waking moment. Increasingly, it seems like that is the only way to survive! Unfortunately, you will not be able to do that with this specific community. We know that we have something special here, having resisted monetization's encroach for so long, which makes us fight all the more viciously to maintain it. You are entitled to try to find ways to supplement your income, just not here. Personally, I consider that a feature, not a bug.
Bonus Round: Remember, That's Not Just Yours!
I said it earlier, but I want to reiterate: you are not making any TS2 CC alone. You are making it with tools, resources, knowledge and code that people have provided on the condition that they not be used for pay content.
To use myself as an example, "my" hair textures are a blend of resources provided by other creators. Namely, Nouk's original hair texture was edited by Vintage D, which I then further edited over the years, using parts by the creators Ephemera and Helga. It would be extremely shit of me to say "well, I think that the time that I put into my edit is worth money, so I'm charging for it" when the edits that I made would not exist without the work of those people. And it continues on down the line with edits that other people have made of my texture blends and color actions, and the content they make with them.
(If you see someone charging for these, btw, lemme know. I'd love to have a talk with them.)
In closing,
The knowledge base, the resources, the coding required to make any and all working content for The Sims 2 has been compiled for 20 years. Please understand, I'm not trying to denigrate anyone's creativity when I say: you cannot bring anything wholly "new" to TS2 CC-making, something that uses no one else's resources or programs, something you can point to and say "no one helped me with that. I did it all on my own. It is my property." Nor should you aspire to! The fun of The Sims 2 community is to share and share alike, to credit each other for our contributions, to hype each other up and iterate on shared works and resources. We've been doing it for 20 years, and hopefully we'll be doing it for many more! Wanting to be a #simfluencer is utterly antithetical to the community culture. No one is influencing anyone else. You need to leave that shit at the door if you want to be invited in.
TL;DR:
Don't show up to the commie circle-jerk trying to charge for handjobs. We're already giving them to each other for free, and nothing about your wrist technique is special enough to justify the cost.

SimPe tutorial: How to fix the height setting of CC chandeliers (The Sims 2)
Tumblr media
A few years ago, @hugelunatic released a fix for the chandelier added to the game with M&G. Originally, the light cast by the chandelier illuminated the floor level above the lamps, not below them. That mod, however, does not affect custom 2-story lights, which need to be adjusted individually. This is a quick, easy tutorial to do just that.
Tumblr media
1. Open the mesh .package file in SimPe;
2. Select "Resource Node (CRES)" in the Resource Tree menu and open the item shown under Resource List;
3. Make sure "Plugin View" is enabled (bottom menu of SimPe);
Tumblr media
4. In the "Content" tab, open the "Blocklist" drop-down menu and select the line "cLightRefNode";
5. Select the tab "cTransformNode";
6. In the panel displayed, on the first column (named "Translation"), change the value of "Z" to a number that matches the height of the lamp mesh you're editing.
NOTE: For 2-story lights that sit on the same height as Maxis' chandelier, the value that I used was 1,521330 (taken from HugeLunatic's mod). For CC lights of a different height, you might want to try different values, according to your personal preference.
7. Click "Commit" and save.
_______________________________
For my own game, I edited two custom lights using the same height value ("Z") that HugeLunatic did for the M&G chandelier (1,521330) . I'm not sharing them here because both creators are still active, but I'm tagging them in case they wish to update their files. They are:
@lordcrumps' "Slightly Off Track Lighting", from his 4t2 Industrial Loft Kit; and
@limonaire's conversion of Industrisim's 2-story industrial chandelier.
Not needed, but RECOMMENDED: HugeLunatic's fix of Maxis' chandelier.

I fricking love this account aaaaaaa. Can you do Idia with a streamer reader? Like we know he wouldn’t want to be on camera but I would love to read about him being supportive to them behind the scenes. Always making sure they have the best streaming set up, buying their merch, banning creeps from their chat.
This prompt has been sitting in my brain since 2020 prime Haikyuu (iykyk)
Even getting kicked across the multiverse isn’t enough to stop the twitch grind, and you figure money’s money no matter what it’s called. All you need for this venture’s a sweet gaming setup and a dedicated mod- Lucky you know where to get both of those >:)
Mod!Idia that gets mega trigger happy when he goes on a banning spree,, Any other mods you hire down the line use his name like a curse when they go through the hundreds of unban requests. He’s that bad. “Gloomerai” wouldn’t take it any other way though, after all the chat is extra behaved when he’s online. The OG’s say he can taste fear..
Mod!Idia only wants to support your career :( He’s the QOL update! The meta support! It’s not like you need the sweats he’s banning (or doxxing), Idia “reinvests” by being one of your few merch collectors, and even out of those simps he’ll always be your #1 spender fan!!
Mod!Idia that’s obsessed with streamer!Reader,, After he becomes your first “henchhuman” (your lingo is all Grim themed, isn’t his streamer bias genius??) all he can care about is you. After a long day of anxiously checking your engagement, he waves your concerns by being the “stats guy”- It’s not like he’s making fanart yes he is don’t listen, so are you really gonna rip away his only hobby? All of his lock screens and pfps slowly become references to your content, and he’s a very active member of community blogs- but no one can know he’s your favourite mod, or else they’d come to him with their creepystalkerquestions!! (The only reason he doesn’t ask them is that it’s common knowledge to him. Yknow, the regular stuff like your favourite game or hip circumference in cm <3)
Please don’t fire him, there’s so much more for Idia to do!! What will the fandom say? He’s the famous “the hand” now! They’ll miss his cameos when he gets you water or holds your shoulder during scary games :( You could never in a gazillion years convince him to make his own channel, but he’s plenty willing to piggyback off your “extrovert buff”. Besides, he needs this job to monitor his social experiment. “The science of streamers on top of geeks” <3

Sissysims' sins against the scenegraph
This is a small follow-up to my initial post covering the code theft commited by @sissysims. In that post, I presented my proof in the form of a YT video. While that video started off private, I decided to make it public for various reasons, which I will not outline in this post.
I first want to express my gratitude to all those who left comments, reblogged and liked my post. Your support means the world to us. I'm so happy that you as a community are so supportive in this. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Thank you to all of you. ♥️
Now, this post is going to focus on just one thing: her incompetence at object creation, because honestly, it's bad. It's really bad. It would feel immoral not to discuss it.
This is just a glimpse and for all you object creators out there: I'm warning you, it's graphic.
How to create an object for dummies.
So, this is the simplest explanation I can give on making a new object. This is the basic process you follow for basically most things you will make: open up SimPE, open up the Object workshop and press open. Select your file and choose "clone". Leave the settings alone, defaults are fine. Give your new object a nice name and description. Be sure to give it a unique object name. Now do all your visual modifications by modifying the existing scenegraph resources (GMDC, TXTR, etc) and give your object a new GUID (making sure to update MMAT's). Now fix integrity, save your file and done. You can test and preferably you'd also compressorize.
So what did sissysims do wrong?
Simply said: everything. I have reasons to believe she has never followed a basic object creation tutorial. The mistakes she makes are mistakes that can be avoided by actually learning how to clone an object. Here is a small summary:
Not cloning anything, instead copying the file she wants to modify and opening that in SimPE
Not changing the object name. I have never seen her touch the fix integrity button
Using other people's meshes and textures. How? By way of opening up their files, noting down the 3D Object Name, extracting the scenegraph resources (GMDC, GMND, CRES, SHPE, TXTR, TXMT, MMAT) and putting them inside the package she's modifying (and modifying the 3D Object Name in the original package). I have not seen her open up a GMDC file or import or export a mesh or texture. She does not modify any of these scenegraph files afterwards.
Not updating the MMAT's with new GUID
Not cleaning out unused resources (see: the scenegraph fuckery above)
Never fixing integrity.
Sadly, this is not just the case with my vendor. It is all her projects. This is how she creates objects: she has never learned the proper way to create objects and thus she steals other people's hard work instead.
Tumblr media
Pictured: the instructions provided for messing up my vendor. Note how she specifically instructs to extract resources from your mesh source. Not export. No: extract.
Tumblr media
Pictured: the results of said messed up procedure on another creation of hers. Note how the gmdc of her object is literally identical to the gmcd of Michelle's original mesh (only credited in a readme, not in the post itself)
Why is this an issue?
This is not just an issue of someone being bad at creating objects. This is someone teaching others this messed up method that comes down to stealing other people's work. I believe that this is actively damaging to our community and newcomers' skill development. Her video teaches people bad modding habits. Her video ENCOURAGES people to use this method to make fundamentally flawed, fundamentally dysfunctional objects.
She claims to be wanting to make modding more accessible, but this video of hers is not helping with that in any shape or form. You need to know what you're doing in order to teach someone and her object creation skills are below the level of someone who followed a tutorial ONCE.
Ya know, I could make a video teaching people Serbian. I don't know anything about that language. It's Slavic I guess. I don't even know how it's pronounced, but I sure as hell could tell people that whatever sequence of sounds is coming out of my mouth is Serbian. And that using my tutorial you can have nice conversations with Serbians! Doesn't mean I should though. It would be misrepresentative, offensive and actually damaging to anyone who is serious about wanting to learn Serbian. The same principle applies to sissysims teaching modding.
I want to learn how to make objects and mods tho!
Good news, there are a lot of great tutorials out there by people who do know what they're doing (unlike sissysims). For basic object creation I would highly recommend this tutorial by Azaya/ @skulldilocks at Garden of Shadows. It's the tutorial that got me started with objects and it has plenty of pictures. If you follow this tutorial, you will be ten times better at object creation than sissysims is
For BHAV modding there is no better place to start than Echo's tutorial. I can also highly recommend @midgethetree's resources page as well as all the useful information @picknmixsims has on his site.
What now?
I will keep working on even better vendor code, which I hope to get to a testable state very soon. It's clear that there's interest in this sort of object, and the new vendor base will allow for a lot of flexibility in gameplay. Once I get it to a good working state, I will make a tutorial on how to make your own: a tutorial that'll actually tell you the why. If you can clone objects (the proper way), you will be able to make a vendor.
Also, please don't engage with sissysims in her youtube comments, not even to "defend our honour" or to say something about the theft. She knows what she did and has presumably received a tumblr notification that I mentioned her (again).
I am sissysims and I don't like this
Well, you have a lot of nerve "teaching" people to mod when you clearly don't know what you're doing. I encourage you to stop stealing other people's work and educate yourself (see resources above).

Making Sims 2 University Fun: my personal guide
I've noticed that while it's probably one of the most utilized of the expansions, TS2's university is generally seen as a slog. Which makes sense. It has a completely different gameplay loop than the rest of the game. But it's very handy to send your sims to college, especially if you use any of the various mods that limit careers based on education. So here's my big guide to making university an actual fun experience to play through (to me, at least).
The university expansion is, uh, very tailored to the 2000s college party time animal-house tropes. the pack becomes more fun when you treat it that way and let your sims be stupid young adults who streak and fool around on campus and throw parties. which, by default, is tricky because of the gameplay that requires so much skill building and assignments. which the rest of this guide will also deal with.
Note: I make some pretty big changes to normal university gameplay, to the point that it does require a bit of modding and at least one instance of fooling with simpe. there's probably also easier ways to do it, and of course everything is optional. maybe you do like keeping sims in dorms for the entire time and just three-speeding trough it all.
*mods: there are a few absolute must-have mods to me.:
TwoJeff's College Adjuster. It's basically an all-in-one controller to adjust semester timing, change semesters, plus a bunch of other features. The semester timing is the most important to me.
Active Classes is still in testing, but it almost completely changes how I play college sims. Once again, I'll detail gameplay later, but actually sending your sims to class makes for a much more fun campus experience.
No College Time Progression On Community Lots: this goes hand-in-hand with the previous mod.
Community Time: IIRC you have to do a little editing in SimPE to make it work right with University - this post explains what to edit. I don't know if I'm allowed to share the exact edit I made as a download. This might seem redundant after the last mod, but there's a reason for the madness: while one group of sims are in their active classes, the other students can do things on the home lot.
Instant Pledge for Greek Houses: This one is important for greek house gameplay, which is later.
SimBlender: There's like, 500 different edits of the SimBlender, and I think all of them have the main function needed for my college gameplay, which is teleportation. You can use a comparable teleporter if you fancy.
Simlogical's University Break is another important one for me, but it's not really necessary if you don't want it. I usually give the sims one break day per season - more on that later.
Autonomous Casual Romance is not required, but it sure adds a lot of fun to your college experience. You can also do any number of professor-limiting, custom degrees, etc mods and fixes you want.
*mods i do not use: there are mods to change the number of/length of semesters, but I seem to run into issues with them so I use the college adjuster to do the same things. I also don't really use any major overhauls, or mods that make term papers faster. I did have the tuition mod for a bit but grew tired of using it.
*general timing changes: I do seven-day seasons with longer lifespans for all sims and play rotations each day. These are the things I do specifically for university:
Four semesters: I only do semesters 2, 4, 6, and 8. Every time a new semester starts, I just use the College Adjuster to set the correct semester for each sim. I use the default length of 72 hours.
Synchronized finals: I use the College adjuster to reset the timer so the finals are all around 6-8am, and synchronized for each sim on a lot. This makes it easier to keep track of timing and skills. Also, all sims in university run on the same 3-day semester. Finals are the same day for the entire college each round. Once again, that just makes it easier for me to keep track of college-wide events for gameplay reasons.
Because this means there's 3 days per school year, and two school years per season week, it syncs better if they get a day off every Sunday using the University break mod.
Teens are sent to college on the same schedule. I send teens to school when they have 14 days or so left, with maybe an extra day or two if the college is currently in the middle of the semester.
*Gameplay: living situations: Here's where the meat begins. Now all your sims are on the same college schedule, they're all being sent to school, and now they need to actually move into college. I follow a real rule a number of colleges use: Every student spends a year in the dorms. Just their freshman year, then they have to move somewhere else. I find that this gives them a chance to meet dormies, adapt to being on college, and sorta figure out what kind of young adults they are. Plus, this gives them time for joining greek houses, which will be talked about later.
I do this because I like seeing sims as their own little characters with arcs and whatever and it forces me to think about what exactly they would be doing in college. Some sims get so frustrated with the constant mess of a dorm, some sims thrive by making friends with every dormie. Sometimes they start new drama with the others they came from high school with. Nothing quite like losing your high school sweetheart to some stinky dormie, after all.
After freshmen year, the students are kicked out of the dorms. They can get an apartment, they can rent a house, they can move into a greek house if they join one. Either way, they need to live somewhere. You can let them stay in the dorms, but I prefer somewhat smaller college households and divide them accordingly. Which gets into that whole greek house situation:
*Gameplay: greek houses. I gamify the Greek houses. I play SSU in my megahood, which comes with a fraternity and sorority, and you can do whatever setup you like there if you dislike gendered houses. Or abandon them all together and ignore this section. There are a few important elements:
Freshmen cannot live in Greek houses. They can, however, pledge while living in the dorms and move in right after their finals end. This includes dormies. There are benefits to the dorm, such as free housing, more social opportunities, usually more money per household since I cheat to make the greek houses actually nice to live in with things like pools and comfortable furniture, etc.
The Greeks have to be recruiting consistently. To keep the house going, they need to constantly be bringing in new members, either playable OR dormies.
Any recruited dormies are required to move in. You can townify them after graduation if you don't really get attached to them, but every member of the house is moved in. I use the instant pledge mod to get rid of that annoying requirement where they have to hang out on the lot so long before moving in. That, and they also move in after finals. You can teleport or invite them on and just ask them to move in. Whatever you want. Then, you must set them to be sophomores. Beyond that you can do whatever. They're playable now. Have fun.
You gotta let the Greeks party. Throw toga parties all the time and use a teleporter to maximize guests. Generally, ALL members of ALL greek houses are teleported to a party by default. Add more dormies, any friends, anybody in the dorms - the kids need to recruit and the easiest way is by forcing everyone on one lot. If you have autonomy mods or realistic alcohol, sit back and watch the madness unfold.
I don't really play wants-based, so playables that join greek houses is more based on vibes or friendship with existing greek members than wants.
*Gameplay: what do you mean we have to study??? Yeah. I made it this far before even bringing up the whole point of college. This is also where it gets a little more complicated and changed up, so bear with me.
I don't do wants-based, again, so I generally just try to make sure sims are at least passing by default. Whether they go beyond a C is up to whatever. I usually try to get knowledge sims to their 4.0s or sims that just seem like they'd take it seriously to max GPA.
ACTIVE CLASSES ARE SUCH A LIFESAVER. You can use the pre-made lecture hall or make your own. Put some skill-building objects in there, and if you like flavor theme the lecture halls around majors. I have a business/gen ed building, a science lot, and an arts lot, each with two classrooms (plus the library contains a classroom). I do believe I made an edit to the mod to make the class performance go higher with active classes, as well, so attending class every day is the bare minimum to get a passing grade.
The active class lots also contain career reward skill-building objects. These are nice because your sims can request to be taught by other sims on the lot. If you have a mod that allows non-students to visit uni lots, this helps even more with faster skill-building.
Every day, I send groups of sims with similar majors to their class. If there's a mixed-major group, each sim group gets one day in active class per semester. (So if there's an economics major, a bio major, and an art major, each one attends class on a separate rotation and the others do the normal autonomous go-to-class where they leave the lot and disappear). They attend one or both of the lectures and otherwise exist on the college lot to skill-build, socialize, eat, etc.
Outside of class, sims will usually research if they're not doing great. I honestly barely bother with assignments or term papers unless the sim actually wants to do them or are aiming for a high GPA. Maybe they go hang out at the lounge or downtown to fool around. Maybe they just fester at home. Whatever they want.
*other gameplay/storytelling things: I usually will take advantage of the aspiration change after their sophomore year if I realize that their aspiration just doesn't really jive with how they act. It's realistic to me. They had many years since being like, 13 when they first had their aspiration selected. I'd like to implement more in the way of holidays/events, personally, but that's not really relevant either. I usually give them an outfit change as well, and I like to go hard with the idea that they're going through a bunch of weird fashion phases. You know you want to give them a mohawk, just for a few days, don't you? Dye their hair red? Shave it all off? Have fun with it.
All of these things combine for me, at least, to make the college years a lot more engaging/interesting and less of a slow "move to a dorm -> study -> read books -> meet needs -> graduate" loop. There's a lot more storyline development that comes from sims being able to enjoy their time as young adults, too, such as the regular polycule jealousy explosions and party fights. It serves to break up anything they had going on as teens and give them a little direction to enter adulthood with. This concludes my little mini-guide, feel free to steal all my gameplay style or just take inspiration if you please. Or ignore it all and shake your head and call me an idiot. do whatever you want forever.

Guys I just found out about some new mods lmao
This one adds Prom which is a rabbithole teens will go to after school on a specific day it sends a notification that prom is tomorrow and the next day it gives you a list of crush sims to pick to take to prom along with a cute “first prom” memory🥹
This one (same creator) adds holidays! It adds Spooky day, New Year’s Day, New Year’s Eve, Winterfest, some other holidays as well but it gives you the holiday notification on their respective seasons plus a day off of work and school for some of them. You could also use SimPe to change the names and the day if you wanted.
I had no idea about these mods but it has a lot of downloads so I had to share them because I was just looking up ways to make a holiday in the sims 2 and this came up lol

Jacky93Sims' 4t2 Functional VR Headset - Bugfixes and New Features
So I have been playing with the 4t2 Functional VR Headset by @jacky93sims for a while now. While it is an amazing thing to have it at all, I immediately noticed some weird things going on in my game whenever I tried to use it. Initially I just wanted to get rid of these weird things, but this sparked a big makeover of the entire mod's functions, as I felt this object could do so much more with a bit of BHAV magic.
Most importantly, Sims can now use the VR headset autonomously, gain Science enthusiasm (because waaaay too few objects benefit that hobby) and Fitness through it, you are no longer prompted to take a screenshot whenever a Sim puts the headset on or off, and the headset will no longer kill Sims if you leave them unattended.
Note that the download link only includes the main object containing all the code! Please go to the original download page to grab the headset accessory and the child, teen and adult meshes, too.
DOWNLOAD
The complete changelog is under the cut, if you are interested in the other ways I have changed this object up.
NEW FEATURE: All interactions are now autonomous! All Sims can play or work out if they seek Fun, but Playful Sims are more likely to play with it, and Active Sims are more likely to work out on it.
NEW FEATURE: Sims now gain Science hobby enthusiasm when playing or working out, at a default of 120% the normal speed. (Requires FreeTime, but you can use this updated version without FT, too.)
NEW FEATURE: Sims now gain Fitness when working out. By default the rate is about 50% faster than working out on stereos, to justify the hefty price tag.
CHANGE: Slightly more Fun gain while playing (40/hour -> 50/hour). In turn, higher Energy (-5/hour -> -20/hour) and Comfort loss (none -> -20/hour).
CHANGE: Slightly more Energy (-10/hour -> -20/hour), Comfort (-10/hour -> -25/hour) and Hygiene (none -> -25/hour) loss. Removed the weird fixed -2 Comfort loss when putting the headset on. Active Sims now only gain 50% more Body skill when working out with the VR headset; other Sims still retain the base 150% skill rate gain. I feel like VR would close the skill gap a bit, so...
CHANGE: Made all the gain and loss tunable for those that know their way around SimPE and can change BCON resource 0x1000 (for playing) and 0x1002 (for working out).
CHANGE: Looped the "jumping jack" and "jog" workout animations three times, and slowed them down. Looped the "knee-bend", "stretch side" and "stretch toes" animations twice. It all looked quite odd being at normal speed.
CHANGE: Added a dialogue when a Body Skill point is gained.
CHANGE: Clarified that the object requires University through the catalogue, because it uses a SimVac animation. I also adjusted the catalogue values for Fun (N/A -> 10) and Environment (6 -> 8).
CHANGE: Added a German translation.
CHANGE: Removed some unnecessary resources.
CRITICAL BUGFIX: Sims will now stop using the headset if their fun is maxed or their motives are failing (same thresholds as with any other "Fun" object), so they don't play or work out until they drop dead. This is a similar issue to an unmodded Exercise Bike from FT.
BUGFIX: You are no longer prompted to take a picture when a Sim puts on or takes off the headset. Maybe @jacky93sims did this to create a bit of immersion, but I did not like it.
BUGFIX: Motive changes are now cleared after taking the headset off. Previously, Sims would keep gaining Fun and losing Energy and/or Comfort even after stopping to use the headset.
BUGFIX: If a Sim doesn't have enough room to play or work out after already having strapped the headset on, the "in use" flag and overlays will now properly reset.

Tumblr media
what can you expect?
🛶 fan club: join us in celebrating everything wind breaker! from episode discussions and watch parties to simping over your fave boyfies! wind breaker is still a growing fandom and it would be so fun to have everyone connect here in one place!
🥾 roleplay: the admins and mods have a special affinity for role playing so it’s only natural that this community will have a special feature that allows everyone in the community to interact with their favorite characters and have the opportunity to participate in fun storylines in a group setting and one on one! you totally do not have to be experienced in role play at all to be able to join!
🗺️ network: connect with other writers and artists for more traction and support! make new friends! summer camp has more of a laid back vibe ever since umemiya became the head counselor! so there’s no need to go through strenuous activities and extra work to still be apart of the community.
is there anything that can disqualify someone from joining the server?
💬 short answer: yes.
but! there’s only two dealbreakers: minors are prohibited in this space. admins will be undergoing age verification.
and this space will interact with and support dark content so if that’s something you’re against then this isn’t the space for you! you will have the ability to sign up for the dark content role, this is completely optional though. so you do have the choice to be omitted from the channel but, we cannot guarantee members won’t see a conversation slip in passing in another channel. slip ups happen!
Tumblr media

Quick SimPE Trick - Disable Reputation Wants
I finally got sick of the "Have a Good/Bad Reputation" wants and was curious if I could disable them. Turns out I can! All credit to @midgethetree for this handy guide and this stackoverflow tip of searching through all the wanttrees at once (don't right click open them all like I did. Just go to "Search > Find in Files" and type "Reputation" - this will work for any phrase or word you want to search for).
Open SimPE and WantTrees.package. The want you are looking for is 0x1561C3A4.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are three paired instances of the Good/Bad Reputation wants you'll want to disable. This is a huge want tree and they are about 30%, 60%, and 90% down the tree (good follows bad each time). If you want to disable the wants fully, rename any value that is "True" to "False" and hit Commit/Save. Again, much smarter people than myself figured this out first (like @lamare-sims' guide here). I'm just repeating what they've shared.
Tumblr media
There are some Reputation mods floating around but nothing that disabled them, and I wanted to do this for three reasons: 1. the Good Reputation want is way overvalued at 5,000 Aspiration points, 2. it keeps rolling even after you've fulfilled it, and 3. reputation is not something I actively pursue in my gameplay (if it happens, it happens).
Hope this helps! Let me know if I broke anything!

Hello, Simmers
Sorry I haven't been active with modding, I'm not doing so well mentally.
Probably why I'm building worlds ... my personal escapes.
Tumblr media
I fixed up the roads in my recreation of Twinbrook from the Sims 3.
I guess you have to be really careful with selection of different road types in the new SimPe.
I built the City Hall and the plaza, and there is also a recreation of Sims 3 "Little Corsican Bistro" made by wonderful Sims 3 recreators up at the top. It needs to go in the green lot, but it can't because it's the wrong lot size! Any ideas? I don't think there's a way to fix this. Ima have to build Little Corsican Bistro again or as a last resort, stretch out the roads to the right and give the Bistro more space.
Mootilda’s LotAdjuster fixed it!!
Anyways, I have almost all of the pre-made households finished. They can't be seen from the above picture because I had to move them all out of the way of the road renovations!
The only household I did not create yet was the Iconic Curious household.
Tumblr media
And what is the Sims 3 bio implying? Notzo's father apparently was going to discover something BIG at his science research job.
This could be the lore behind Twinbrook because when you resurrect dead Sims in Sims 3 Twinbrook, they all have pale green skin, they're basically swamp creatures.
But also, this could be a nod to eventual alien interactions. I am not quite sure.
Yes, in Twinbrook Sims 3, Notzo Curious is a toddler.
But if you remember from Sims 2 Strangetown, Pascal and Vidcund Curious have Notzo as an ancestor but he's supposedly dead and he died as an elder, which apparently does not line up with Sims 3 timeline .... he's allegedly their grandfather
So, that wouldn't work.
Unless ....
Twinbrook happened BEFORE Sunset Valley and Riverview etc etc.
Which lines up perfectly with my current narrative.
So far, I have played Sunset Valley to get a feel for 3t2 traits....
But Sunset Valley has to remain in the future. Bella Goth as a child does not exist yet....
My main two hoods are Roaring Heights and Twinbrook.
Twinbrook is underway...
My next project?
What should it be? What town comes next in Sims 2, Sims 3, and Sims 1 lore? What town was being built around the same time as Twinbrook? Strangetown lore people, help a brother out!!! There's sooo much lore and so little time ...
Here's what I have:
--Starlight Shores is like a monk's religious haven around this time ... not really ideal for building a recreation of yet.
--Twinbrook is rising in inventing ... Roaring Heights has architecture and film and poetry and class ... and technophobia ....
--Obviously, some of the supernatural hoods come to mind, but if I do Midnight Hollow, that means Olive Specter is a young adult and Nervous Subject is a toddler.
If Midnight Hollow happened way back then to fit for Notzo, then it becomes strange that Olive would only be an elder in Strangetown.
Thus, Midnight Hollow has to be built later.
I also need to work out Brandi Broke's timeline - Bob and Betty getting married, having her, her marriage to Skip Broke and how that fits with Bob and Betty Newbie being married and Childless in Sims 1!!!
But since there are no Sims 2 references in Appaloosa Plains, I think my sights are set on that ... Sun and Moon livestock, here I come!
Fascinating stuff.
Being a God is so hard.
I'll get back to research ....

based on @glassknee's post and @notevenalittle1294's addition, i present to you: the sims endbringer mod, pho style (but not really, this is a fictional sims forum)
♦ Topic: [Self-promo] Endbringer Mod In: Boards ► Modding FKNSHJ (Original Poster) Posted On Apr 20th 2012: Hi all. 🙂 I’m excited to share this mod I’ve been working on. It involves randomized Endbringer attacks. By default they’re fairly more common than they are in real life, happening maybe once every ten in-game years, but if you look at read_me.txt in the downloads I’ve enclosed information on how to alter the probability and how to trigger specific Endbringers as well as how to make them easier or harder to defeat. Besides that I also included CC and a few Easter eggs that won't affect your gameplay.
(Showing page 1 of 2)
►termina2 (2011 Sim Comp Finalist) Replied On Apr 20th 2012: whoa, so cool :D i dont play with my sims much so ill try activating some endbringer attacks and see how it goes. im pretty bad at coding tho... ^_^
►tritebuilds (2011 Build Comp Semi-Finalist) Replied On Apr 20th 2012: Hey what the fuck? Endbringers aren't a joke. You've clearly never seen the aftermath of an attack, this is making a mockery out of the trauma of Endbringer victims such as myself. Who even comes up with this stuff???
►hshater Replied On Apr 20th 2012: im getting my popcorn lmfao
►termina2 (2011 Sim Comp Finalist) Replied On Apr 20th 2012: trite let's keep this civil, please, don't swear...
►oldlostsea Replied On Apr 20th 2012: Wait, isn't this the guy who posted those *suggestive* images of Leviathan?
►hshater Replied On Apr 20th 2012: +oldlostland what?? on here?? where?? not in a weird way like i don't want to see them but proof?
►oldlostsea Replied On Apr 20th 2012: +hshater Ok weirdo. It was on some PHO dupe (it has better information but worse moderation) and I only remember because it was weird + the random letter username stuck with me. I'll DM you the link once I find it.
►hshater Replied On Apr 20th 2012: +oldlostsea yeah yeah take your time. FJSKJ you've got anything to say for yourself?
►oldlostsea Replied On Apr 20th 2012: +hshater I found his account on the site and I downloaded the mod. Definitely the same person. The art style resemblance is uncanny. Sending you the link RN.

►spaceg1rl (Suspended) Replied On Apr 20th 2012: why does the mod's art look like that? yeah he definitely wants to fuck them screenshot(64).png
►hole (Moderator) (2011 Simp Comp Winner) Replied On Apr 20th 2012: @spaceg1rl This is your fifth infraction this year. Suspended for two months.
►hshater Replied On Apr 20th 2012: +oldlostsea sorry i was walking my dog. and yeah that looks exactly the same as what spacegirl (rip) posted +hole i mean this as kindly as possible pleasedontgivemeawarning but with that username what grounds do you have to stand on
►hole (Moderator) (2011 Simp Comp Winner) Replied On Apr 20th 2012: @hshater It's a reference to Hole, the band, of which I made many Sims. You can see them in my Round 2 submission to last year's Sim Comp
►hshater Replied On Apr 20th 2012: yeah i'm sorry to break it to you but your tag says simp comp. congrats though!
►termina2 (2011 Sim Comp Finalist) Replied On Apr 20th 2012: i really love the atmosphere and the art and the cc... really surprised this was made by one person! good job!
►tritebuilds (2011 Build Comp Semi-Finalist) Replied On Apr 20th 2012: +termina2 You are literally contributing to the normalization of Endbringer attacks.
►termina2 (2011 Sim Comp Finalist) Replied On Apr 20th 2012: ?? im going to log off for a bit to work on a school project. really dont like how toxic you all are getting :( it's just a mod
►tritebuilds (2011 Build Comp Semi-Finalist) Replied On Apr 20th 2012: @cookiecrumbles @tenovertwosmallstones PLEASE remove this. It's extremely offensive and potentially f*tish content.
►cookiecrumbles (Moderator) Replied On Apr 20th 2012: I'm disabling replies while we discuss this. Please avoid harassing each other anywhere else in the meantime.

I don't want to put this on anyone else's post because they are right: you can get sims 1 and 2 for free and get them to work.
Some people do not want to climb up the ass of their computers to get a game to work.
My husband sees when I have to make changes to the game, and he says it seems like a lot of work. And it can be! SimPE, Hoodchecker, WhatCausedThis, Graphics Rules Checker, spreadsheets and randomizers and all that! Just to make sure a game I love works the way I want it to.
And we are lucky! We have an active community for a game that is literally 20 years old. We get new toys to play with and new fixes all the time. Not a lot of games have that.
But. I need you to listen.
Going through all the hoops to get a game to work should not be the cost of entry.
We are not better people than others because we have put in that work. We should not be sticking our noses up in the air when EA makes our favorite game available for modern OSes, to a new generation of people who may love our game.
Sure, it'll have a cost associated. EA is a company. "But they gave UC away for years!" But didn't support it or provide any modernization fixes. The community did that.
And now both 1 and 2 will be available and updated to work on Windows 10/11. With all expansions. And assumptively, without having to edit files and use third-party tools to get them to work.
People who have only played 3 or 4 will be able to experience the original and the first sequel, maybe even for the first time! We may have new people coming into the community with their own ideas and cc and mods. This is a good thing!
And this is behavior we want to encourage from EA! For so long they barely acknowledged that the first two games existed, let alone let anyone play them. They were even claiming that they were vastly inferior to say, 4 but that's just like your opinion, man. Now they are making them available! This should be something we're happy about!
I don't get why the elitism is so prevalent. You don't have to get their updated version if yours works. That product is clearly not for you. But it can be for lots of people who have not had the chance.
Personally, I'm going to wait and see. I have hopes. I'll likely pick up 1 no matter what, but I'm crossing my fingers for an increased resolution. As for 2, I am begging and dying for 64-bit. If it is, you bet your ass I'm going to get it. If not, ah well.
TL;DR: Quit being so stuck-up about the older games being back on sale in a few days.
