Hello, is mariam weirema from Gaza, I have started a campaign to seek help to get rid of the genocide in Gaza, I am reaching out to you with a warm heart so that you can share my post against friends and family to spread the word, and a small donation💰 if you can, Please I am on my knees asking you to help me complete this.
Thanks for your kindness and generosity 🕊🙏🇵🇸
That's likely a scam
They blocked me when I asked if they were verified
It's the same text as known scammer @/zaynabu
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's the exact difference between the asks: different name, a space removed, and a simple change of words
Tumblr media
They also mention a GFM in their tags, but no PayPal (as usual for scammers)
#free gaza#free palestine#gofundme#donations
Also some other minor tells common in the usual scammers
obviously generated url
reblogging a few things directly from the OP about random stuff (Palestinians seem to go directly to the point or reblog other fundraisers?)
They also had AI art, but I've seen at least one fundraiser with one, so...
@kyra45 @anonthescambuster
update: the ai-generated image was stolen off a GFM: (thanks for telling me, anonymous asker!)

Heads Up on an Art Commission Scam!
Tumblr media
I'm getting a bunch of scammers in my IMs trying to pull the fake cheque scam on me by commissioning me. Red flags are:
An account that's new or has no identity 🚩
They talk to you as though they're following a script (eg. I say that I'm closed for commissions, but they continue anyway) 🚩
Asks you to draw something you don't normally draw (eg. their pet dog for their son's birthday) 🚩
Offers to pay you in a cheque for way more than you charge (usually hundreds of dollars more) 🚩
The idea is that you deposit the cheque, and then they ask you to send some of it back to them or to another person. The cheque is fake, and it will bounce days to weeks later. If you send any money back, that money will be gone from your account, plus the full amount from the fake cheque once it bounces. At that point, the scammer has just succeeded in getting real money from you, and will disappear to find a new victim.
As a rule of thumb, I don't take cheques as payment for art commissions.
For more info, here is an FTC page on how to spot fake cheque scams: https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/how-spot-avoid-report-fake-check-scams

Just found out I'm on an "anti-palestine" list because I said you shouldn't trust fundraising vetters who don't explain their vetting process.
The person who put me on the bad list linked to their own post naming a particular vetter and saying "He said WHY he no longer explains his process."
Please note, I did not name anyone in particular. In fact, in the entire post, no one dropped any names. The person wanting us to be awful anti-palestine monsters for saying "Hey, scammers are scamming; be critical about where your money goes so it can actually help people" was the one to decide who we must be talking about.
BTW, the person's reason for no longer explaining their vetting process is that the scammers were getting better at covering their tracks, so it was too hard to explain how they knew it was a scam.
Which, frankly, hits me right in the suspicious squint because it's the kind of excuse you hear when someone is absolutely running a scam and runs into the problem of nearly getting busted. Suddenly, the details are too difficult to go into but they've built trust with a group who will keep handing them money.

Please be alerted and search through their account.
If a Palestinian reaches out to you and they have the donation link to PayPal then it's a scam. PayPal isn't service in Palestine, Gaza or the West Bank. I just learned this from a person who warned me about them and now I'm spreading it around. These scammers are pretending to be a Palestinian and steal sad stories from actual Palestinians.

tumblr users baffle me at how many of yall fall for blatant scams. around $4k raised for an individual who made their account a couple of days ago, is copying and pasting their message to the most popular blogs, and who has provided no proof of their situation. scammers prey upon current events such as the attack on palestine. please be more aware of identifying these scams.

Ferris returns after many years to talk to you about something important! This is a PSA I put together for Twitter regarding a surge of vet bill scam posts I’ve been seeing there, and red flags to look out for! I am NOT saying any post asking for help is a scam. What I’m saying is these scams exist, are becoming more common, and to do your due diligence before sharing or donating. Help is a limited resource, so we want to make sure it gets into the right hands. <3
It seems these scams are appearing on Tumblr now too. Here is a great post about this growing problem: https://www.tumblr.com/panspock/708275904833617920/psa-cat-medical-bill-scam
Additionally, on both Tumblr on Twitter, it seems like these scam accounts reblog/retweet a bunch of stuff to look legitimate, but lack much (if any) original posts due to the high amount of turnover - an easy thing to check!

don't donate to scammers
I had to delete most of my Palestinian fundraiser posts because @twigg27 told me about the scammers. There are scammers pretending to be Palestinian, and that breaks my heart. They are using genocide victims for their own greed.

Hi! The post you reblogged from androgynousavenuevoid is a scam; they are using an outdated photo of their blood sugar measurement and using an untrackable Paypal for their fundraiser. A blood sugar measurement over 500 is fatal, as in like, coma-inducing level, and needing to go to the hospital. The fact that this account has been showing that image for several days shows that their blood sugar is definitely not at that level anymore (they would be hospitalized, in a coma, or dead) and an insulin pen wouldn't do anything to stop that anyway. If you want a more detailed explanation, here's a post from someone with diabetes: https://www.tumblr.com/12percentspider/745354822712229888/info-time-diabetes-and-related-issues-this-is?source=share
Additionally, the photos in their blog header and their linktree are of two different people. They likely stole photos from other people on the internet.
Please delete your post or edit it to warn others of the scam, as well as report their pinned post for phishing. Also, if you are skeptical or have any questions, my DMs are open! (As long as you're respectful)
okay, i acc thought i unblogged that post when another person brought that up, but apparently i didn’t, so ty for that! also this is acc rly useful for others so yh!
