And I guess to break everyone's heart further, when we filmed that scene, we actually had not filmed episode 14 and 15 yet. Hey Alex, hope you’re having a good day :)

Just finished listening to MAG Protocol Episode 37 and was absolutely blown away, what a phenomenal episode. No spoilers, just fantastic stuff. Especially with a particular character appearance ;)

Were you always interested in the script writing side of things? What inspired you to have a go at writing for Protocol?

Thanks for the kind words! So fun fact, I am actually a formally trained script-writer with an MA from CSSD and I think there's probably a bit more of me in the Magnus Archives scripts than people might think. I'd develop the story with @jonnywaistcoat before writing then after he wrote first drafts I would redraft the episodes with him before recording. Statements were normally only small changes but dialogue and character work was a bit more full on especially in later seasons. Don't get me wrong though, @jonnywaistcoat is very much the horror guy of the two of us. For Protocol though, @jonnywaistcoat explicitly asked that I generate the metaphysics (fancy word for fear logic etc.) and so I offered to co-write and that means getting to do first drafts. Personally, I think I am probably better at writing than I am directing but I suspect directing is a rarer skillset so I get more work in that vein. Left to my own devices I would probably do a lot more writing, I've wanted to write a YA series for years not to mention a dark fantasy trilogy and some sci fi but there's just not the time for me to sustain something like Rusty Quill and write novels so I guess your stuck with me podcasting for a while yet.

: ̗̀➛ shifting to a reality where you are living a rich lifestyle and you live in a mansion or penthouse + you have a hot handsome Bodyguard protecting you and living with you (+ you Can add any interesting scenarios 😉).

: ̗̀➛ you are a Spy who is secretly spying on this agent to gain information from him and checking all his movement, then he realized someone is definitely watching him and he suddenly found you (+ you Can add enemies to lovers type of relationship).

you know when you like someone and you seem to get coincidentally lucky in having a moment with them—you’re outside by yourself at a party and they happen to also walk out there alone, you bump into them while you’re both running an errand, they need help with something that you’re really good with and you get that little moment with them? just little things like that, ones that you think about for the next week like what are the odds, damn in the best way

i scripted that those happen a lot while i’m interested in my boyfriend ( future, technically ) in my DR, before we’re together. “i seem to constantly get coincidentally lucky in having small, intimate interactions with him.” you know? i didn’t even specify what, but just one (1) of those little moments can light up a whole week for me—so i knowwww i’m gonna be going insane about them when they happen. keeps things interesting xoxo <3

I wrote a spec script for Good Omens.

This past week, I was out to coffee with a friend of mine and we got to talking about writing (as we often do). She has more of a television/movie background while I have more of a theatre background.

In the midst of our discussion, she brought something called a "spec script". When asked what exactly that was, she explained (at least in terms of television), it's an unprompted and uncommissioned script written for an already established show. The purpose is to help demonstrate a writer's ability to match the style, format, and voice of a show they didn't create.

Immediately, I said, "That just sounds like fanfiction!"

(Obviously, it's not, but I enjoyed the parallels nonetheless.)

So, of course, I had to write a spec script. (Season 3, episode 1 of Good Omens.)

Let it be known that I did not do this in the hopes of joining the writing team as I know Neil has that MORE than covered. I just did it for fun, but I'm really proud of it and I hope you head on over to AO3 and take a look at it.

Probably too many swear words. Probably too much AziraCrow too quickly. Probably too blasphemous. Definitely wonky formatting.

But I had fun! And that's what fanfic is all about.

TMA episode sketch: Episode 15, Lost John's Cave

Based on this post, I wrote a letter of regret from Jochi, the famous Veristitalian, who sends "her" regrets as she cannot attend Adolin and Shallan's wedding.

I wrote it in the women's script, and then the same letter again in a vaguely Thaylen-style font I created for this letter specifically.

I know Nosferatu 2024 doesn't focus on it, but why is this the the closest think we've ever gotten of Jonathan in his brain fever arc and being taken care of and protected by his wife during his nightmares and illusions.

Because Robert Eggers read, understood, and enjoyed the book Dracula, including acknowledging the characters and plot points as they actually exist in Bram Stoker's writing.

Most directors and spinoff writers are only aware of the book because they're really making their stuff based off of each others' entirely bullshitted works and wikis that have completely atrophied around the ideas of Dracula = Dark fuckprince, Mina = Reincarnated swoonwife, and Jonathan = Stuffy Broomstick There to Die or Be Divorced for purposes of Dracusex

Jonathan's brain fever bits showing up clearly in Thomas are like all the other book shout-outs in the film: They exist because Eggers cares about the origins and history behind what he makes.

Hiii I love your work! What's the most amount of drafts an episode of magnus has had so far?

Thanks! Hard to tell without diving into our own (real) archives. I know one episode of protocol has gotten up to something like 10 drafts before then going into production (where it gets redrafted some more as part of recording, dialogue editing etc.) I suspect Archives had less drafting in general because there were less people involved. That doesn't mean it changed less, just it went through less iterations because it was only Jonny and I working on scripts back then.
