Anne Conway 

Lady Anne Conway was one of the few female philosophers in the seventeenth-century and notable for her legacy in STEM. Her work consisted of the three layer hierarchy, in which she classified them as ‘species', Anne believed that although all creatures are born with a body, the spirit/soul/mind is better and has the possibility to be perfect like ‘God’. She rejects the material world and explains that suffering is a part of spiritual recovery. All creatures have the potential to be ‘perfect’, but nowhere near the perfection of ‘God’, she stated. The context of ‘God’ here can be interpreted in a different lens, it doesn’t necessarily entail religions. The context of so-called creatures are human beings limited by the laws of our Earthly realm. ‘God’ however are the ones who broke free, it is the limitless consciousness, it is the ego. 

Gargi Vachaknavi

Gargi Vachaknavi is a notable Vedic scholar and daughter of sage Vachaknu, she explores the knowledge of metaphysics and what was beyond the body. Gargi explains the journey of ‘koham’ (Who AM I?) and that the inquisitive mind aids us in the revolution of finding ‘soham’ (I AM). She challenged the notions of existence by daring to ask challenging questions like, what was the ‘woven, warp and woof’? Referring to what is beyond human understanding of the world beyond the sky and earth. It is notable that Hinduism seems to be the few religions where divine knowledge can be passed to both men and women equally. Although there is sadly a lack of English source materials, Gargi’s philosophy revolves around the fundamental ontology of the world. 

Plato

Plato is one of the oldest philosophers during the Classical era in Ancient Greece. He is a big believer in Dualism, separating the body and mind into two substances (the mind can live without the body even after death). His most famous theory is allegory of the cave where prisoners trapped in a cave believed that the shadows on the wall were their reality, the prisoners regarded the cave as true and nothing else outside of it exists. Eventually, one of the prisoners steps outside and is faced with true reality or enlightenment. The prisoner returned to the cave and tried to tell his peers, only to meet with hostility because everything they’ve known their entire life was false. The lesson of his allegory was the escape from ignorance, one must question every assumption they have about the reality they call ‘real’. Plato believed that reality is created by the mind. 

Hypatia of Alexandria 

Hypatia was a renowned astronomer, mathematician, hellenist, and philosopher in the Classical era of the Roman Empire. Most of her work did not survive through the test of time, but she was a strong believer in Neoplatonism. Neoplatonism was coined from Plato’s Platonic theory that argues that the world which we experience is only a copy of an ideal reality in which lies beyond our material world. Overall, Neoplatonists believed that happiness and prosperity can exist without an afterlife. Hypatia’s belief in Neoplatonism drove her to seek knowledge in mathematics and astronomy.

Saturday's Late Night Sci-Fi Cinema Special Presentation: Star Trek: Of Gods and Men

Our Theatre of the Universe reopens for the Memorial Day weekend!

It has been 12 years since Captain James T. Kirk dissapeared while he was saving the U.S.S Enterprise B and the survivors of a destroyed starship.

The Captain Nyota Uhura reunites with the Federation's Head of Starfleet Security Officer, Captain Pavel Chekov and the Captain of the Enterprise B, John Harriman at the inagural ceremony of the Enterprise M.

A replica of the 1701, as a homage to the memory of the late Captain Kirk, it will be commanded by his nepew, Peter.

As they receive a distress signal from the planet of the Guardian of Forever, Uhura, Chekov and Harriman had an encounter with Charlie Evans.

Still hating Kirk for the events that happened over 40 years ago, devised a way of vengance by entering the Guardian of Forever to stop Kirk before he was born by killing his mother.

The universe as we knew has been turned upside down. The Federation became an evil empire known as the Galactic Order. It is led by a powerful and mysterious being known as the Curator Prime.

An organization mainly composed of Humans, Klingons, Orions and Romulans among other races.

With very old ships but powerful in terms of weapons. The have now torpedoes capable of destroying an entire planet on a single one known as the Omega Device.

Uhura and her friend, Tuvok along with Chekov -- now known as the rebel leader Kitrick -- with his fellow leader, the shape-shifting Ragnar must find the way to restore the universe to its original order.

Star Trek: Of Gods and Men is a 2006 three part miniseries presented now as a film.

This is non cannonical work of the Star Trek franchise. It means that the events happened here doesn't affect the official timeline.

It was made by actors who participated in many Star Trek related series and movies to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the franchise as a way to thank for the support over the years.

It was supposed to be released in 2006, but for many reasons, it was delayed until 2007-08.

thinking about how after reader was so convinced she's finally found an escape from the mundane in finnick and then she could no longer even have the escape of his parties, and by virtue of that could only turn to Conway, the person she would have to be with. The life she was scared of. And how reader put on her bravest face when Finnick left her only to fully break down with Conway because it really means that she'll never even feel Finnick's presence again, not his kisses, or touch, nothing, and that she'll have to pretend she's moved on when really she'll forecer be mentally stuck in the past. Just Conway, stroking readers hair as she sobs about all that she'll never happen and he listens so patiently as she explains all the things she loves about the other man, the one who broke her heart. and he's glad to have his friend back, even more now that you're done, but it makes him feel bad because he has you back but heart broken. but he'll listen anyways and let you scream it into the sky because he knows that in the end you'll have to realize how much he really loves and would give to you. even if mentally all you can do is compare everything and everyone to Finnick.

Paleoart in the Wild: Prehistoric Council Patches (Boy Scouts of America)

While cleaning my basement, I came across something I ordered online years ago and forgot about: a full set of 2017 National Jamboree patches from EBay! For those who haven’t been in the BSA, the National Jamboree is a nationwide gathering of Scouts in the U.S. that takes place every four years.

In Scouting, it’s a pretty big deal, and it’s an opportunity for Councils (regional scout groups) to show off their latest patch designs. The Utah National Parks Council is no slouch and, looking at their items on EBay, has a tradition of creating paleo-themed patches; the ones I show here is but the tip of the iceberg!

The above patch is absolutely wonderful, a Smilodon with its iconic “pouncing with mouth-open” look is sure to spice up any uniform; this patch, shaped different from the rest, is a lodge flap - so unlike the others it can be worn on a scout’s uniform chest pocket.

The centerpiece is very nice, though the poor Altmuehlopterus seems a bit lost flying over an arid desert rather than a coastline. This pterosaur is actually a piece by Dmitry Bogandov, though I suppose it’s under Creative Commons license.

A Pteranodon, one that almost anyone has seen at least once, originally illustrated by Joe Tucciarone - whose artwork seemed to be everywhere online before the stock imagery of the PAPO T. rex or AI generated monsters.

A diving rhamphorynchoid pterosaur that I vaguely remember seeing in a book somewhere (a possible John Sibbick piece?) and an azdarchid similar to the “Titanopteryx” I remember seeing in a Luis V. Rey book as a kid.

Hard to make out the exact species, but I’m in love with this feathered raptor. The anatomy is pretty on-point, and I enjoy the thought of a pack of these banana-colored oversized canaries tackling large prey.

One of my favorites of the set is this Cearadactylus (seemingly another Tucciarone piece, but recolored). The curvature of the pterosaur’s wings with the Council’s title is satisfying and dark stormy colors are a perfect backdrop (reminiscent of John Conway’s pterosaurs). Very nice stuff. The same can’t be said for…

This. A keuhneosaurid (a type of flying lizard-like reptile), which was the Triassic equivalent of Draco volans. So much to unpack here between the flailing dislocated limbs, the crazy muppet-like maw, and posed as if were falling out of the sky. Understandably, patch embroidery doesn’t allow for exact detail but it isn’t really an excuse for the result of this.

Ahh, <3 hmm. Gosh. These are always so hard when trying to expand my assessment beyond whatever is eating my brain at present...

#1 most certainly goes to The Thing Itself (aka the Great Sipo/Mimban Project), my Andor fic baby. credit forever and always to @nessrealta for suggesting it after I teased hints of some Mimban backstory in a couple other fics. OCs are not my forte and this necessarily required... pretty much a cast of entirely OCs. And imagining Sipo from scratch. And I tugged on every.single.scrap of the show (and the middle name Jeron) I could fathom to map out the story and IT IS MY BELOVED I shamelessly rec it at any available opportunity. /modest

#2 I will cheat and say the whole Conway Cabal series (aka the universe that just won't die), which is a Hamilton modern AU that's... I like to imagine a nuanced exploration of abuse and consent and trauma.

#3 Let's go with Freight Car which was part of a set I did based on Bucky's trigger words while FATWS was airing. This particular one was my prying Steve & Bucky closure from the jaws of Endgame endeavor and I still reread it from time to time even if MCU has utterly lost me.

#4 I'mma say Atmospheric Interference (fics 1-4) for Bad Batch which was my inevitable cloneship project born of my obsession with the tragedy that is Tech dying on the mission to find Crosshair and the reconciliation they were denied. Took a while to form up scattered ideas into a bigger picture but I was quite proud of the bigger picture, in all of its twisty glory, when it did take shape.

So we arrived my actual favorite design!

Tw: Can't have roses without the thorns. (That doesn't mean I don't like roses)

You might think because this is my favorite design that means I would not have as much to complain about, maybe I would leave it be like I did Cleo's after all this is my favorite design surely that means-

You're wrong.

Why is her outfit star themed??? Why? Did they change the theming last second? They barely have any indication her being a storm witch or having stuff with the weather/lighting/thunder or at least rain on her outfit. All the things that are suggesting that, look like they done last minute to fit the theme (I'm not in anyway saying they look bad, no, not at all, just out of place with the star theming)

(Also her pants straps? Like huh? I mean, I'm not the biggest fan of the straps, they're fine, just like, why...? Just a personal opinion.)

Well back to me goshing over the design! Put aside that she has no reason to be star themed (she does, kinda, but I will talk about that later, I'm aware of esmp2 dw I'm just talking about lore later on), she fits the theme very nicely! Like the cape is just chef kiss! I can't do it justice in my art but believe me it looks amazing! The constellation on it was a great idea and another point for the artist nailing patterns! I also love the little star pin in her hair, the star on the end of the hat, the star holding the cape together! Did I mention the shoes??? They look so gooood I love them from the bottom of my heart, simple but perfect, especially with the yellow spots, like I love them sm! And the little skirt-like ruffle on the shorts! Ahhh that's my favorite part! It's just a joy to draw and looks incredible nice! The ruffle like gloves as well!

Ohh my, this design is just such a fun design I can't conway trough the format of text and miss using of the punctuation marks!

Just check it out and admire it or scratch that, get out a piece of paper and draw her now! I dare you! You will love it! And the vibes, the magic, the rain in the background turning into a clear sky above the storm with stars fully visible and the lightning ball in her hand and just my goodness I love this so so much I can't describe.

This would be a great time bring up how much I like the artist's style and the shading on the skin is one of my favorite part (the other would be the amazing cellshading on clothes like how?!), the little redness on the knees and elbows really makes the character come to life in my opinion! All the better how they also could do the opposite with Cleo making her much less lively, perfectly fitting her being dead and all. They're really cool for that.

Overall I love Shubble's design and her design is my favorite to draw!

Todd shared the news in a memo to staff and on his podcast, “The Chuck ToddCast,” saying that Friday would be his last day at NBC News after nearly two decades as a fixture of the network’s political coverage. “I am leaving a bit earlier, frankly, than we had all originally planned, but there’s a reason for it. I’m pretty excited by a few new projects that are on the cusp of going from pie in the sky to near reality,” said Todd, who slammed his employer on-air last year for hiring former Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel. The network axed McDaniel a week later. Todd said he will retain his news podcast, but it will be going on a “little hiatus” while he looks for a new network to host the show. On Friday’s episode, he hinted his next career move will involve a shift away from national media. The first casting announcement of 2024 has finally been announced with the news of Channel 5's The Wives.

About

Written and created by Helen Black, The Wives is a domestic thriller that centres on 3 sister-in-laws, Sylvie, Natasha and Beth who, just as they have done for the last 15 years, embark on their usual family holiday to Malta. However, this year is different.

The official synopsis reads:

Last year, four sisters-in-law and their families escaped to their Maltese holiday apartments, as they’ve done every summer for fifteen years. Sylvie Morgan, was happily married, Natasha, was swimming in wealth, and Beth and Annabelle Morgan, were thick as thieves. But this year, as they come together again, everything is different. Sylvie’s now single and loving life, Natasha’s hiding a desperate financial situation, Beth is barely keeping her life together and Annabelle is, well… dead. When Annabelle’s widower Charlie, arrives with a new woman in tow, Beth tries to be happy for them, but something doesn’t sit right. Charlie’s new girlfriend Jade, looks exactly like Annabelle. Beth’s plans to have a great summer are quickly scuppered by Charlie’s odd behaviour, and her suspicion that there is more to Annabelle’s death is heightened. Air Date
