danny talking about how resentful she became when nobody who she self-sacrificed for cared when she died and then leaving kirsch with laura and carmilla bc "if he stays with me i might lose control again and kill him" kinda confirms my thoughts abt both newly-turnedness and anger making vampires more vampiry
but also makes me think that in more usual circumstances, when the dean turned vampires like carmilla and mattie, that shes really nice at the start to temper any of that unruly anger
#we dont have a lot of info on her usual mo i guess but im thinking a lot abt how it mustve gone with carmilla#i dont know if she was a special case or if this is usually generally how it goes#i suppose you dont necessarily need a lot of new ones do you. if youve got one vampire seductress in working condition#mattie had her role on the board#danny was just for end of the world purposes i think. opportunistic turning. to replace will perhaps#but im thinking abt how at first the dean and carmilla were kinda close. and i have no illusions abt what that meant for the dean like#im sure it was just to control carmilla. play into what she needed to ensure centuries of loyalty. and that kinda worked until elle#and looking at mattie i expect most of them will eventually start rebelling so i wouldnt be surprised if she did smth similar with mattieto#just 1000 years earlier. and at our point in the story mattie is doing strained coexistence with her right?#carmilla is well in mattie's view rocking the boat once again for a cute girl#thats so funny oh my god. iconic. take the first lesbian predator archetype character and make it so that she keeps#rebelling against the evil BECAUSE shes so gay#like literally thats her entire motivation 'of course i was just doing it for you' oh my godddd hfkjhgjhghj ICONIC#i love her so much i love her soooo much#what was i talking about. oh yeah so i think the dean in usual circumstances is very nice at first and spoils her new vampires#to foster allegiance#god carmilla must just have been so happy to have someone care about her and be nice to her i think#every thought i have abt 18 yo carmilla is so sad#but i can imagine those early years/decades of her and the dean travelling around. mattie there too maybe not all the time#but enough time. mattie there too specifically also to make carmilla feel wanted and make friendship so she wouldnt rebel#to guide her through her young vampire years probably! damn yeah i bet that was mattie who taught her all the tricks#mother isnt a vampire and i dont see her really caring. i think mattie probably taught carmilla the do's and don'ts of vampiredom#and they had fun! they had fun with it. they had cruel fun being vampires together. i think carmilla was just happy to belong#maybe mattie was happy to have a friend too idk if she had many. not many vampire friends anyway. she seems to have fun being a sister#anyway. just thinking aloud#carmillaposting

i am once again thinking about the hilichurl rogue :(
the first time i fought it was actually yesterday after climbing a mountain in fontaine cause i wanted to see what it was and the drops really reminded me of neanderthal flower burials + how both neanderthals and hilichurls are/have been seen as primitive beings despite tons of evidence to the contrary (ignoring what we know about khaenri'ah since the curse of the wild seems to cause them to be catatonic for a period of time).
theres tons of literature on how neanderthals actually appear to be similar to homo sapiens and have higher mental functioning as evidenced through their tools, their presumed social structures (taking care of injured/disabled neanderthals rather than abandoning them as would be thought of beings focused only on survival), but most notably for this the evidence of "flower burials" at Shanidar.
Basically, two neanderthals were found buried in primarily medicinal flowers (indicating their possible role in their group). I believe there were 11(?) other neanderthals found there who appeared to have been crushed by rockfall whos ages (if my memory is correct) were from around 7 to mid 40s. The reason i bring this up is because of one of the flowers found at Shanidar: Achillea/Yarrows. I find these flowers to be fairly similar in appearance of the petals (excluding size) to the hilichurl rogues drops
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, each drops description:
A Flower Yet to Bloom "a wildflower that a hilichurl rogue treasured. it was plucked before it could bloom. the hilichurl takes nothing with it in its sojourn across the wilderness save this flower."
Treasured Flower "a wild flower that a hilichurl picked bereft of any special qualities. flowers can be used as gifts or offerings to express ones feelings in many cultures"
for this description in specific i would actually like to quote Ralph S Solecki's "The Implications of the Shanidar Cave Neanderthal Flower Burial"
"Under normal circumstances, today, in many cultures, flowers and death go together, as one can see a funeral corteges and burials. The association of flowers as tokens of esteem, respect, or for the joy of looking at [...]. According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica, 'the flower has been a universal symbol of beauty in the civilizations of the world. Confucius included its cultivation among the arts that were essential to a man of culture.' We pride ourselves thinking that we know a lot about Neanderthal man, but the association of flowers with Neanderthals adds a whole new dimension to our knowledge of him, and his humanistic nature."
Wanderer's Blooming Flower "a blooming wild flower that a hilichurl rogue treasured, bereft of any special qualities. the eternal outlander asks not for reward, but only to see their deeds come to fruition"
TLDR (abstract lol); hilichurl rogue drops remind me of the neanderthal flower burials found at shanidar
below the cutoff are some sources if you want to do further reading on neanderthals
(im not an anthropologist or even studying it btw but here are some articles on neanderthals i used for a bibliography on neanderthal spirituality in an anth class last winter in case you want to read up on it, theyre formatted in SAA kinda)

I might make a bigger post with quotes about this eventually, but there really is something about how the Vates, Osgar, the Disir, Finna, they all talk about Camelot's downfall as a part of the prophecy. Not only that, but they all know how close it is, especially Finna (due to the Catha guarding the information that says just that for hundreds of years).
And I can't help but think about how Camelot was never really threatened? Like sure, if they failed at Camlann it could have fallen, but there's something about it as if... Camelot’s ruin was a destiny that could be thwarted and prevented, while Arthur’s death, which was what everyone was trying to stop (even the Disir arguably) was a fate so bound to the earth, so true, that any move to prevent it was a step closer to it happening.
Except, as much as Camelot was saved, it doesn’t survive forever. It becomes a legend, and Merlin lives to the modern day – a modern day that presumedly reflects our own.
Which brings me to an alternative interpretation: As Camelot flowers, the seeds of her destruction are being sown – because one day it will be no more.
I think much of the prophecies in BBC Merlin are simply talking about the wrong time. They think they know, but they have no idea of the larger scope of it all. Sure, uniting Albion, Arthur’s downfall, Mordred’s, Morgana’s, they were set for a certain time. But Camelot’s destruction? Hell, returning magic?
Maybe the prophecies were talking about a different age, and the seers across the centuries just got it wrong. We don’t even know how much it was known that Merlin was immortal, sure it says it in the name Emrys, but nobody talks about it until Balinor does in the Crystal Cave.
It seems as if the interpreters of the prophecy hoped that it would happen in the time when Emrys and the Once and Future King were born, but what if it was just that? Hope? What if it was always meant for the modern day we know now?
What if… even those who thought they knew, like Alator, like Finna, had no idea? What if the Disir were simply playing their part to ensure Arthur’s downfall would be right on time? What if the tragedy that followed was just to arrive at a better time, at a time where Camelot’s destruction came and went, at a time where magic is needed most?
It’s just the continued assertion that Camelot will fall from everyone knowledgeable about the prophecy in Series 5… it makes me think it’s talking about a future they cannot conceive of. And if that’s the case, then what else was never meant to happen in their time?

“what’s that baby.”
you leaned away from the mirror and looked at megumi, him sat patiently and content on the edge of the tub as he watched you do your makeup.
“this?” you held up your mascara wand and he nodded. “mascara gumi! it goes on my lashes and helps them look preeettyyy.”
you looked to the mirror and leaned over the sink again, dipping the mascara wand in the tube, muttering. “or at least i hope it does…”
megumi huffed a breath of amused air through his nose. “it does.”
you grinned, stepping away from the sink and walking over to him as you extended an arm, offering the little wand.
“wanna help mee?”
he pinched his brows momentarily before reaching and taking it from your waiting hand, mumbling. “i don’t know how baby… i don’t wanna poke your eye.”
you laughed a little and perched yourself up on his lap gently, megumi readjusting so you’d be comfortable and placing a cold hand on your thigh.
“you won’t gumi! i’ll show you look—”
you took the wand back from him and raised the bristle to your eye, sliding it up slowly against your lash as megumi focused his gaze on what you were doing, face so serious that it made you giggle.
“here! you try.” you smiled sweetly, passing it back to him as you excitedly waited for him to copy what you did.
he brought the bristle to your other eye, fingers coming up to gently hold your jaw and keep you in place as he brought up the wand, delicately running the mascara over your lashes with precision.
you stared at him, the way his deep blue eyes tracked his own movements so carefully with furrowed eyebrows as you could tell he was trying his hardest to stay away from your actual eyeball, you finding it difficult to stay still and not swoon over his striking features that never failed to hinder your normal brainy functions— his face close to yours.
“gumi.”
“hm?”
“your lashes are so beautiful.”
the side of his lip curled up in amusement.
“they’re.. eyelashes.”
“lucious eyelashes my god…” you murmured as he moved the bristles away from you and lowered his hand. “they’re so long and sexy.”
he snorted and lifted his hand to give you back the wand, you happily taking it as he then mushed your cheeks together with his fingers and kissed your puckered lips.
“you almost ready.”
“yes!” you responded, standing from his lap and walking over to the sink to take a look at his work, giving him a cheeky thumbs up at the results with a cute smile before dipping the bristles back in the shiny gold tube, coating a bit more of the product on your lash for a fuller look.
halloween was one of your most favorite holidays of the year, right next to valentine’s day and megumi’s birthday as the overall feel of horror, carved pumpkins, and cheesy gore just did something to you that made you sickeningly giddy and riled up whenever you and megumi participated in fall activities each year.
and today was just that— you and your boyfriend getting ready (well mostly you) for a halloween party taking place just about an hour from now, going as a couples costume that consisted of you dressed up as a slutty cupid and him one of your victims, his simple white long sleeved button up and black pants all it was since you didn’t have the heart to make him wear an actual costume, knowing he would probably be embarrassed by it and keep the fact from you.
but the event you were attending wasn’t just any halloween party.
it was the fucking halloween party for any professional athlete across the globe, exclusive as hell, and teams from literally everywhere invited as long as they were the best of the best and honed in several winning titles under their belts— megumi and his team being no exception as they got invited every single year with the event manager practically begging megumi and yuji in particular to attend, but megumi always missing out every year due to his general dislike for parties.
but you loved parties. and he knew that.
and seeing how upset you got last year not being able to go because one of your professors decided to be a dick and assign an exam the day of halloween—
megumi silently made sure that this year you both would be able to go, regardless of what he thought about parties so as long as you were there.
“i just need to put on my corset and wings.” you screwed the mascara tube shut. “i’ll be back!—”
“you’re not changing in here?” he asked confusedly.
“…no.”
“why not.”
“because i need privacy gumi.”
he gave you a deadpanned look. “i’ve seen you naked baby.”
a fiery pink blush rose to your cheeks as you started stiffly side stepping closer to the door.
“okay?” you pursed your lips. “water is wet. the sky is blue. i’m horny because of your costume—”
megumi laughed loudly as your voice trailed off down the hall, you skipping into his room and throwing your top off over your head so you could put on your cherry red corset, it already fucking suffocating you and you hadn’t even tied the laces yet as you quickly slipped on your white thigh high socks and little wings, running down the hall again back to the restroom.
“oh my god i can’t breathe—”
“jesus christ.”
“what?!” you froze and looked down at your costume. “what does it look bad? do i look trashy? do i look stupid—”
“no baby no.” megumi spoke gently, embarrassed that he accidentally let his reaction slip. “s’cute. i like it.”
you smiled sweetly, nodding and turning to look at the mirror to lace up your corset— each tug and pull from your hands only pushing your godly tits further up and up and up until megumi had to grip the sides of the tub to keep himself from grabbing you and taking your white mini skirt off, your soft tits now sitting pretty and puffy at the top of your corset with a tied lacey bow.
you breathed in deeply as you set your hands on your hips, barely even having room to properly exhale as you tried to get yourself accustomed to it.
“i’m gonna die.”
megumi chuckled and stood, walking over to you and settling his long arms around your waist, pulling you in.
“loosen it a little baby.” he leaned to the side to look at your skirt, one hand coming down to tug at it. “is this how short it is?”
“yup!” you cheekily grinned, pecking his rosy cheek. “i’m going as a little slut.”
he playfully rolled his eyes and smoothed his hands over the material of your corset, eyes wanting to lock themselves straight with your tits again but refraining himself from doing so.
“and halloween is like my religion gumi.” you propped your chin up on his chest. “it’d be a disgrace if i loosened up my corset like a freaking loser.”
megumi laughed, his pearly smile making your heart flutter as you stood up on your tippy toes and kissed him.
“kay, you ready?”
he looked at you confusedly. “for what?”
“for the lipstick kisses!” you stepped away from his arms and dug into your makeup bag on the counter. “it’s part of your costume baby it’s like i made you fall in love but with me ‘cause i’m cupid and i shot you with an arrow and now you love me and stuff…”
megumi watched you pull out your red lipstick and unscrew the top, sliding the end of it over your lips carefully before pressing them into a thin line and spreading the product around, leaning back from the mirror.
you turned to him. “ready ready?”
he nodded and let you tug him down by his collar, you undoing a few buttons from the top so his chest would show as you moved and pressed a gentle but solid kiss to his collarbone.
and megumi took note of then that you never really had to do anything for him to get riled up, because you being you and with each little kiss that trailed up his neck and left behind scattered red lipstick marks, had him blushing furiously and looking to the side, a particular peck to the edge of his adam’s apple causing him to harshly suck in a breath through his nose.
megumi loved halloween.
you finished with a kiss to his jaw, pulling back and eyes lighting up at the sight of him covered in your red smooches, you gently nudging him to look in the mirror.
“you look so cuuutee guumiii!” you gushed, a silly smile on your face as you admired your work and pointed at him funnily through the mirror, but faltering and head snapping in his direction once you saw his blank blinking eyes.
“what?” you asked softly, brows furrowed in concern. “are you okay? do you not like it? i could— i could take it off—”
you went to reach for the makeup wipes in your bag until megumi caught your wrist and yanked you forward, dropping his face into your breasts and biting down on a puffy tit as you gasped.
“gumi!” you laughed, hands pushing at his chest as he dragged a long wet stripe up from your boob to the side of your neck. “not right now!”
“why not.” he mumbled, pulling your waist in again and biting down on the side of your neck, his mouth traveling back to your tits. “i’ll be fast.”
your cheeks grew hot as he gnawed and bit over your boobs, your body melting with each lick and little by little giving in to him as you felt yourself dazedly lean forward into his chest.
but the party.
“w— won’t we be late?” you asked softly, thighs clamping together at the way he slipped his hand up your skirt to grope your ass.
“just a little pretty baby…” he murmured against your skin, fingers slowly creeping under your panties. “wanna feel you around my—”
a blaring chime rang through the bathroom, your phone vibrating against the counter as you tried to pull away from megumi and retrieve it.
“my— baby my phone—”
“leave it.”
“but it’s my best friend—”
you extended a strained arm, outstretched fingers clawing to grab at your phone as he continued to assault your neck and tits, almost knocking it off the counter instead as you alternately decided to put your phone on speaker, tapping your finger on the screen to answer the call with your frame still utterly caged in megumi’s arms.
“hel—”
“y/n oh my god please help me!”
your eyebrows furrowed in concern while you literally wrestled with your boyfriend at this point to let you go, him snickering and biting down harder on your skin as you giggled.
“what— what happened?”
“i can’t lace up my costumeee!” she whined. “are you at megumi’s place still?! yuji doesn’t know how to do it he almost snapped the ribbon twice and i can’t see because it’s on my back and we’re gonna be fucking late—”
you gasped. “oh no— yes! yes i am hurry so i can help you—”
“perfect i’m already at the door—”
megumi huffed, rolling his eyes as he straightened up and softly let you go, you looking up at him with apologetic eyes and reaching up to caress his cheek.
“i’m sorry gumi… we can have sex when we get back!”
“you can— what?!” your girl friend shrieked over the phone, both of megumi’s hands slapping over your mouth with blushing cheeks. “you freaks open the damn door!”
“m’sorry m’sorry m’sorry!—”
megumi laughed and kissed your forehead, dropping his hands and turning to leave the bathroom to get the door as your girl friend still yelled over the other line— a combination of what you had said and about her corset until you actually heard her in person down the hallway through the living room.
“y/n help me please dear god— move megumi—”
fast clicking heels echoed down the hall until they reached you, your best friend heaving as she slumped against the door frame with a trail of dark blue ribbon behind her, the corset of her slutty police officer costume loose around her body as she clutched it against herself.
“i’m so scared the ribbon is gonna snap.” she breathed out. “yuji pulled it so fucking hard i heard a rip—”
“is it okay?!”
yuji ran into the bathroom as soon as you ushered her in and gently turned her around, inspecting the ribbon.
“babe i’m sorry i’m so sorry please forgive me—”
“why did you keep tightening it when i told you to stop?” your girl friend stressed, holding onto the edge of the counter as you proceeded to lace up her corset.
“i don’t know i’m stupid i’m sorry—”
“it’s fine—”
“no i need the death penalty right now—”
megumi appeared behind yuji then with a cold look on his face, arms crossed as he leaned against the hallway wall and listened to the commotion happening in his own fucking apartment that annoyingly hindered the moment he was having with you minutes prior.
“you guys the ribbon is okay.” you began, quickly fastening it through various loops and crosses. “there was a little tear in it but not that bad! it shouldn’t give out.”
they both breathed out a dramatic sigh of relief and you giggled at that, finishing up the lacing with a cute bow at the bottom that matched yours and stepping back, your girl friend happily looking at the ribbon through the mirror then before throwing her arms around your neck and giving you a big kiss on the cheek.
“i love you thank you!”
“mhm!” you sweetly responded, looking over and readjusting the rest of her costume as she started pinning down her little police officer hat, yuji guiltily sulking in the back and megumi disappearing off somewhere.
“babe i told you it’s okay!” your best friend laughed, turning around to ruffle up his pink hair. “it didn’t rip that much and you didn’t mean to at all either.”
he nodded and kissed her cheek, running a hand up and down her side.
“i know i just feel bad… i would’ve fucked up your costume.”
she shrugged, running her hands over his white ribbed tank top. “and we would’ve figured something else out! i was already thinking of using my shoe laces instead.”
you laughed a bit, the sight of yuji wearing bright orange prison pants with his top a funny one as your best friend reached into the back pocket of her shorts to pull out her phone, you fixing over the straps of your little cupid wings in the mirror.
“i’m gonna down every single fucking fruity drink i see.” you spoke excitedly. “oh! you guys do they still do the bottle sparkler drinks you told me about? the ones they bring out and light on fire and—”
“yeaahhh!” yuji exclaimed. “they do holy fuck i’m getting in line for that i don’t care if i black out drunk you only live once—”
your girl friends sudden gasp made you both jump and look at her.
“oh my god—” she frantically scrolled through her phone. “oh my god we have to go we have to go—”
“what?!” you peered over her shoulder to try and look at her screen. “why?! what happened what— are we too late—”
she spun around and grabbed your shoulders. “the— the nfl cheerleaders! they showed up y/n the fucking cheerleaders—”
“oh my god!” you quickly shoved your scattered about makeup into your bag and flung your curler and straightener under the sink. “we have to go we have to go we need to butter our way in this is our chance to be one of them—”
“oh my god oh my god—” she hurriedly pinned her toy badge to her chest before snatching yuji’s hand and running out of the bathroom, yelling from down the hall. “we’ll meet you guys there y/n! call me as soon as you park!”
“okay!” you called back, megumi soon after silently appearing with your cherry red mary jane pumps— dangling loosely from his fingers.
“oh my goodness thank you gumi i couldn’t find those!” you tumbled out quickly, following his lead when he guided you to sit down on the edge of the tub, him getting down on a knee and lifting your ankle up to slip and strap your heels on for you.
“did you hear?” you grinned, bouncing in your spot. “the nfl cheerleaders showed up.”
he chuckled lowly. “i did baby. i heard all the way from my room.”
you bit down on your bottom lip to suppress a squeal, megumi gently setting down one ankle and lifting the other.
“would you still love me if i was a cheerleader for the nfl.”
he snorted. “yes. why wouldn’t i?”
“because i’m betraying the mlb.” you pouted, him finished now and looking up at you with a tiny smile. “but it’s not my fault you guys don’t have cheerleaders! i would’ve tried out a long time ago if you did…”
he looked at you amusedly before kissing your lips and standing, helping you up on your heels with a hand and leading you out of the bathroom over to the living room.
“would you still love me if i was in football instead of baseball?” he asked, grabbing his keys from the counter and leaning down to tie his shoes.
you gave him a bewildered look.
“gumi i’d still love you even if you killed people for a living.” you mumbled. “or if you had a criminal record. or if you committed arson for fun. or even if you straight up didn’t love me back i’d probably stalk you—”
megumi laughed loudly and stood back up, shaking his head and pinching your little cheek at your last comment before opening the front door and stepping out with you.
“i wouldn’t mind that.”
you giggled. “you wouldn’t?”
he shook his head, a sly smile spreading across his face.
“i’d do worse.”
the only thing you all really knew about the whereabouts of the party, was that it was annually hosted at a penthouse in the city by an event manager who was obsessed with professional sports teams, but the details of exactly who’s penthouse was unknown… only that it was the biggest social event of the year with open bars and smoke machines and cocktail waitresses at every corner— any player who was someone in their respective sport always in attendance.
you had heard about it many times before through yuji and your best friend before you had officially met megumi, you every year wanting to go so bad but far too intimidated by the type of crowd that it was to actually show up, doomed to watch their stories on social media and the cheerleaders you followed having the time of their lives doing shots from a cut in half bamboo pole with various others in a line— moping around in your room with nothing better to do.
but now you were eternally grateful that you finally got to go with none other than the person you loved most in your life, not wanting it any other way as megumi contently listened to you excitedly ramble and look through social media stories of the players already there in his passenger seat, interlaced fingers on the center console as he occasionally raised and kissed the back of your hand.
and upon arriving at the penthouse and leaving your vehicles at the parking garage, all of you were amazed to see that there was a line wrapped around the fucking building and down the street as you walked up, you nervous now for some reason while skipping through the entire line and going towards the security guard inside the lobby.
and you’ve always admired and taken pride in the fact that megumi was the best at his sport and was recognized immensely for it despite his indifferent stoic image… but even more so now as the security guard didn’t even have to listen to yuji say who they were as he stepped to the side and pointed down the hall.
“last elevator to your left, button goes straight up. have a great night.”
you all thanked him and walked over to the elevator, piling in and pressing the golden lit button to the top floor before the doors gradually slid closed.
“if the bamboo shots already happened i’m gonna be pissed.” you mumbled, yuji and your best friend groaning in agreement as they chatted and watched the number in the elevator screen rise to thirty five and still going.
“if the bar runs out of those tiki cocktail mugs before we get there i’m actually gonna start fighting with the bartenders this time—”
“no you’re not.” your best friend cut yuji off as she laughed, lightly slapping his shoulder and wrapping her arms around his torso after.
you felt megumi nudge you and you looked, his head coming down and placing his lips to the side of your ear.
“try not to lose me baby.” he murmured. “call me if you do please. or look for yuji’s stupid bright pants.”
“hey!” he whined. “i heard that…”
you giggled hard and nodded, standing on your tippy toes to give him a cute kiss on the cheek.
“kay gumi!”
and the doors slid open just then, music blasting through and startling you and megumi as he grabbed your hand to interlock your fingers, your eyes shining like constellations at the massive scene before you as you all stepped inside— the entire penthouse lit in a dark purple neon hue with hanging skeletons and bats on the walls, fake spiderwebs hung at every corner and yellow caution tape strewn about, absolutely everyone dressed up and not a single one in regular attire as you navigated through the crowd, foggy air over the floor that sweeped and swayed with every movement.
and the walls were tall and humongous, a particular side playing a montage of various teams and specific players’ best moments of their season on a projector screen, your eyes immediately focusing to see if you could spot megumi in any of the flashing videos.
a cocktail waitress passed by with a tray of shots then, multiple hands coming from the crowd to take as your group did as well and downed them back, megumi scrunching up his face in distaste as he coughed into his elbow and put the shot glass back on the tray, you rubbing a comforting hand over his back.
“loooser!” your best friend teased and pointed at him, megumi scowling and slapping her hand away from his face before swinging an arm around your hip.
“no that shit was actually nasty..” you gagged, the rest of you following suit and placing the shot glasses back on the tray before the cocktail waitress disappeared somewhere in the crowd, yuji nodding in agreement.
“that’s why i hog the tiki bar every year— oh shit!—” he quickly whipped his head around with wide eyes. “babe babe my tiki mug where the fuck is the tiki bar?!”
“the fire! the fire!” your girl friend pointed up ahead, all of you turning your heads to see a crowded bar adorned with hibiscus flowers and actual lit torches, multiple bartenders behind the counter booked and busy as they mixed alcohols and shook their barrel shakers to serve drinks.
“oh there’s actually fire...” megumi mumbled. “indoors.”
you gasped. “oh my god gumi let’s go let’s go!” you grabbed his wrist with two hands and gently tugged him forward, a beaming smile on your face. “i want a tiki mug too!”
he laughed a little, nodding as you all started walking over to the bar, yuji literally shoving his way through to the front until the upper half of his body was toppled over the counter with flat palms on the surface.
“tiki mug!” he breathed out to the bartenders. “tiki mug is there still tiki mugs?!”
“itadori!” one of them greeted with a smile, his eyes flickering over to megumi. “and fushiguro?! i’ve never seen you at one of these! ever!”
megumi’s expression read nothing as he only nodded curtly, yuji impatiently waiting for the bartender to answer his question as he looked like he was about to rip his hair out, your best friend laughing.
“congrats on winning the world series last year!” he spoke again before reaching under the bar. “and for the mlb, of course i have tiki mugs!”
“oh thank god thank you i love you mister bartender!” yuji slumped against the counter with a hand over his heart.
“so what drink with it?” he lined up four tiki mugs on the bar. “i could do a piñacolada, blue hawaii, tropical bay breeze—”
“oh! could i do a blue hawaii please?” you asked politely, the bartender nodding and taking the rest of your orders before quickly getting to work and mixing alcohols together.
“megumi i’ll take your mug if you don’t want it!” yuji mentioned hopefully, tail basically wagging like a little dog.
“i’m giving it to y/n.”
“fuck!”
you giggled and patted his shoulder. “it’s okay! you can have it. just let me drink his drink first though heh.”
“oh thank you!” yuji threw his arms around your neck and you stumbled back, megumi quickly placing his hands on your waist to stabilize you. “you don’t understand every year i come to this damn party and there’s never tiki mugs i’ve been saved—”
“babe you’re not letting her breathe get off!” your girl friend laughed, tugging at his ribbed tank before he released you and spun around, engulfing her instead.
“sorry! arrest me!”
“yu!”
“cuff me but the fuzzy pink ones i like those—”
“you’re disgusting.” megumi mumbled.
your girl friend shot him a glare.
“says the one who fucks my best friend every night and makes her say the most outrageous things—”
you screamed and covered your reddening horrified face, megumi shutting up instantly with wide eyes and pink cheeks as yuji and your girl friend reeled over and cackled.
“blue hawaii! tropical bay breeze! rum punch! bahama mama!”
each tiki mug was stacked onto the bar with a thud after every call— full and foamy with colorful liquid and little umbrella picks adorning them as they were pushed towards you, yuji profusely thanking the nice bartender and almost jumping over the counter too as he grabbed his mug.
you took a sip of your drink and lit up, immediately slurping the rest of your blue hawaii and downing it like it’s fucking water and not straight up alcohol as megumi watched you with shocked amused eyes.
“you like it baby?” he softly asked, taking tiny sips of his rum punch and surprisingly liking it, offering it out to you. “you wanna try mine?”
you swallowed a big gulp and quickly nodded. “yes! please gumi.”
you both switched drinks, trying each others and you loving his even more as megumi gently turned you around and wrapped his unoccupied arm over your tummy, tugging your back to rest against his front as you chatted with your friends and tried to hear each other over the loud music (and megumi trying to ignore the stares you got from random weird men..), your eyes occasionally drifting over the crowd and spotting several different star players.
most consisted of the nfl, but there were a good amount from the nba and other teams from the mlb— even volleyball and hockey as you recognized some of their faces from reruns that played on your tv or the highlights you saw through your social media platforms, you a bit star struck when you saw particular ones your were a fan of casually walk by the tiki bar next to you.
you reached a hand out and tapped your girl friend.
“have you seen the cheerleaders yet?!” you yelled over the music, shoulders slumping when she sadly shook her head no.
“i’m gonna actually start crying in front of all of these people if i don’t see at least one.” she stressed. “we need to start looking in the crowd—”
a sudden jolt stumbled you and megumi forward, the both of you craning your heads around.
“i’m so sorry!” a girl gasped. “i didn’t see where—”
she oddly stopped, megumi barely even sparing her a glance as he just nodded at her apology and turned back around to face the other way, but you still watching the way she stared at megumi with big shocked eyes and slightly parted mouth.
similar to the way you did when you first saw him.
but she continued to look at him, her eyes flickering to yours then and… hardening before she reluctantly spun the other way and moved through the crowd until you couldn’t see her blonde hair anymore.
and you figured she could’ve just been a fan of megumi’s and was simply too starstruck to say anything… but the weird feeling in your gut had you gnawing at the bottom of your lip as you turned to face the other way again.
“strange..” your best friend mumbled, your eyes snapping to hers.
“you noticed that too?”
“uh huh.” her gaze scanned the main dance floor. “don’t think i’ve ever seen her before either.”
you craned your neck to look up at your boyfriend.
“have you gumi?”
he looked down, brows furrowing.
“have i what.”
“seen her?” you nudged your head to the crowd. “the girl that bumped into us?”
“who?”
you laughed. “the girl— nevermind. it’s okay!”
he smiled softly, leaning down to peck your lips before continuing to sip on his little blue hawaii as he caressed his hand over your side, his arm still snug around your torso.
“is everybody having a good night or what?!”
your gazes shifted to the dj booth up ahead, the mc of the night holding up a wireless mic with his phone in hand as the crowd erupted in cheers and hollers.
“i want to thank everybody for coming out tonight! it’s a pleasure to do this every year and see all of your talented wonderful faces—”
“oh no.” megumi mumbled, you looking up at him with a confused raised brow.
“what?”
“i think they’re gonna call me up.”
your jaw dropped, stepping out of his arm and facing him.
“they’re gonna what?”
“yuji told me about this last year…” his face was practically pale as he looked to the dj booth, your best friend and yuji already cutting through the crowd to get up there. “they call up certain players from different teams for recognition.”
“oh—” you looked on ahead, an excited smile spreading across your face. “oh that’s so nice baby! you deserve to be recognized like thaaatt!”
he slowly shook his head, absolutely fucking stiff as a rock and annoyance brewing in his chest over the party and event manager doing something fucking ridiculous like this.
“baby let’s go to the bathroom.”
“the bathroom?” you tilted your head. “why?”
“to hide.”
“gumi!” you sent him a comforting grin and ran your fingers through his soft black spikes of hair. “it’ll be okay! they just want to show appreciation for your gift baby that’s all.”
“i don’t want it.” he mumbled, forehead dropping down to rest on your shoulder miserably as you giggled.
“but i wanted to see you up thereee!” you whined, wrapping your arms around his hunched shoulders. “wanna see my cool baseball man in the spotlight for a little like he should be.”
megumi’s cheeks grew pink.
“but let’s go to the bathroom or upstairs we can—”
“if you want me to go up there i will.” he cut you off.
“huh?” your eyebrows furrowed as he picked his head back up. “what—”
“m’going up.”
you gasped. “no gumi it’s okay! i don’t want you to do something that makes you uncomfortab—”
“honda! ito! fushiguro!—”
he cupped your cheek and kissed the other.
“i’ll be back.” he murmured, patting your head while simultaneously swallowing back his displeasure for the situation— but doing it solely for you. “stay here.”
“ledger! itadori! okkotsu!—”
“o—okay!”
“please come up to the booth talented players—”
megumi walked away from the bar and through the crowd, his height making it easy for you to spot him through the masses until he got up there with yuji and the rest of the players, you going on your tippy toes and peering to and fro to try and see where he was at but pursing your lips when you couldn’t fucking see him anymore, ultimately deciding to move through the crowd yourself to find a spot where you could.
“ladies and gentlemen could i please get a round of applause for your top players of the year?!”
an eruption of whistles and clapping pierced through your ears as you tried to shimmy your way in, finally landing a leeway in between several heads and seeing your boyfriend up there— grumpy and bothered with his arms crossed as you covered your mouth to try and suppress a laugh, phone in hand already recording.
“woa— megumi fushiguro?! first year i’ve seen you here man!”
the crowd burst into surprised exclamations and gasps, the mc throwing a heavy arm around megumi as he stumbled forward, an unamused done expression plastered over his face as you held your phone up high with the biggest smile, probably looking utterly insane as you erratically flipped and rotated and zoomed in on his figure in every possible angle imaginable, the bright white lights illuminating him so insanely that he straight up looked like a god.
and you wondered then how in the fuck one of the mlb’s greatest players ever became interested in someone like you, for you felt like megumi was completely out of your league from the start with all of his glorious batting and pitching.
but every time you iterated exactly that to him amongst your endless daily ramblings, he would scoff and shake his head and gnaw at any part of your skin to get you to take back that ludicrous fucking statement, always thinking you were way too humble about yourself and polite and sweet to realize that he had to go through the trenches of telling different guy’s to fuck off if he saw they were even remotely interested in you without you knowing.
megumi did this even before you officially noticed him on the field.
and today was no exception as he scanned the main area of the penthouse to the tiki bar in search for you, the mc blabbering on about things he didn’t care about as he realized you weren’t where he told you to stay, quickly then scanning the crowd and his shoulders relaxing once he spotted you in the midst of the crowd, but eyes narrowing as he saw some stupid moron obnoxiously ogling your tits next to you while you were happily watching him with your phone propped up.
the fuck?
“—good luck to you and itadori in the league championships! any words you wanna say for us here?!” the mc vocalized through the mic, holding it up to megumi’s mouth after.
“wrap it up.”
a mix of ooo’s and laughs bounced off the walls, the mc awkwardly chuckling before unhooking his arm and patting a hand on his back.
“that’s megumi fushiguro for you! now any nba players up here?!—”
megumi immediately stepped off the platform and moved through the crowd, your eyes cutely twinkling once you noticed he was making his way over to you as you stopped your recording and stuffed away your phone.
“that was so funny— oh!”
he swiftly stepped in between you and the guy to block his view, the stupid moron slightly going off balance from how close he actually was to you and the fact only further pissing megumi off, an arm coming to wrap around your waist as he led you out of the center and off to the side by the big wall with the projection screen on it.
“what—” you looked to where you previously were and back to him. “what happened? why—”
he shrugged. “wanna talk over here baby.”
“oh, okay!” you nodded, sweet and oblivious as you enthusiastically yapped about how great it was seeing him up there.
but the guy who was ogling your tits was only the first wave.
“oh my god gumi!” you frantically tapped his shoulder and pointed to the projection wall. “it’s you! it’s you! oh my god i’ve been waiting all night i want a picture right fucking now quick hurry hurry—”
you hopped on over with your mary jane pumps and stood next to the huge projected singular shot of megumi swinging his bat, one foot crossing over the other as you wrung your hands behind your back and tilted your head with a cheeky smile, megumi reaching in his pocket for his phone.
that pose alone might as well have been you violently shooting another cupids arrow through his chest— his tingling pinky cheeks prominent under the purple neon hue of the penthouse as he took several photos, a fond smile growing on his face.
pretty.
megumi watched as you uncrossed your feet and seperated your hands, turning around and straight up pressing yourself against the wall with your tongue erotically out and spread palms over his projected snapshot, him snickering as he covered his mouth with the hand that was holding his phone, trying to ignore the way his dick twitched in his pants at the sight.
he took more pictures and gave you a silent thumbs up, you dropping your pose and skipping back over to him as he put his phone away and extended a waiting arm out to the side, you stepping in and his hand instantly snaking around your waist where it should be.
your gaze stayed locked to the wall, totally transfixed with glimmering heart filled eyes as it continued to play megumi’s greatest moments of his season— most if not all from this year alone, but a good amount consisting of last years world series game where he absolutely dismantled the opposing team with every move he made on the field with no mercy, immense pride bubbling in your little heart.
“you’re the coolest gumi…” you spoke softly and he looked down at you, eyes softening at your dazed state.
“yeah?”
“mhm.” you responded, letting him tug you into his chest as he leaned and placed a gentle kiss to your cheek. “i think i’m gonna start crying and hyperventilating on the floor.”
he chuckled, delicately moving some of your hair over your shoulder to run his hand along the smooth skin there, lips coming down next to your ear.
“i love you.”
you grinned, your heart actually skipping beats and running around every corner of your inner body as you wrapped your arms around his neck, pulling him in.
“i love you too gumi!” you gave him a cute peck on the side of his head. “and i think i’m gonna start stalking you anyways like i said because i really need something to do on my down time when i’m not studying or at your events—”
megumi laughed, an infatuated squeaky one as he nodded against the crook of your neck and held you a little tighter.
“do it.”
“okay i’ll start monday! or maybe now and i’m gonna do it by—”
“oh my gosh megumi fushiguro!”
you felt him falter in your arms and turn his head, the both of you slowly separating from each other to see who it was and your brows slightly pinching once you did.
it was the girl from earlier. the one that bumped into you.
“hi! oh my— i’m such a big fan of yours!”
your guard lowered a little upon hearing that, a small smile on your face as you looked at her.
“oh, hi.” he mumbled.
“i’ve been a fan since you got signed actually!” she exclaimed, her short bobbed blonde hair and angel costume cute to you. “how funny i run into you here right? must be fate.”
fate?
“well it’s—” he shifted uncomfortably. “it’s a sports party… thing…”
she giggled obnoxiously like she’d just heard the funniest thing ever, fingers lightly smacking his shoulder as you stood there.
“i know silly!” she smiled, nudging his upper arm with her hand. “just wanted to say that i admire you so much and think you’re the greatest! the way you play is amazing and i love it.“
you were absolutely happy with the fact that a fan was being so nice to megumi and telling him such kind words, as he deserved all of the praise and support and you loved whenever people expressed just that to him— a total treat for you if you were there to witness it as well.
but the weird feeling in your gut was back… and why was she touching him so much…
“thanks.” he spoke simply, giving barely a smile before he made his way to turn back around.
“w—wait!” she shot her hands out. “i’m hana!”
he paused midway and nodded curtly. “hi hana.”
her face gleamed and she blushed, looking like she’d just won the fucking lottery as she smiled big and cupped over her mouth with both hands, obsessed over the way her name sounded from him.
“do i hear wedding bells?!” she squealed. “when’s the ceremony?!”
you choked on your fucking spit, your boyfriend completely taken aback as he looked at her bewildered and awkwardly, megumi sort of initially appreciating the support, but now he just didn’t wanna partake in the conversation anymore as his mind was more interested in the ways you’d stalk him that you were about to tell earlier.
“so are you having fun tonight?” hana continued. “i’ve never seen you around and i come to this event every year!”
“um yeah i’m here with—”
“your friend?” she pointed at you. “how cute! im here with a friend too.”
the way she barely acknowledged your presence, even when it was pertaining to you as she spoke about you rather than to you, and the way she literally insinuated marriage like it was nothing with your man, left a sour fucking taste in your mouth.
and friend?
“girlfriend.” he corrected.
her face tightened.
“right!” hana’s gaze landed on yours. “sorry! i couldn’t tell.”
huh?
megumi’s arm was around your waist and she couldn’t tell?
you hugged his upper arm to your chest and gently tugged him away. “sorry but we have to go it was nice meeting you—”
a spark of annoyance flashed through her eyes. “oh but i was talking to him though—”
“—i’m sorry bye.”
you pulled megumi harder and you both dove into the crowd, disappearing from hana’s view as you went in search for your best friend and yuji— agitated and feeling guilty that you were in case hana really was just a fan and was simply overly affectionate.
but she didn’t have to disregard you like that either…
megumi could sense you were a bit bothered by the grip you had on his arm and the way you barely looked at him as you shimmied through people, his brows furrowing in concern.
“baby.” he leaned down next to your ear. “what’s wrong.”
you shook your head. “nothing. just trying to find yuji’s stupid bright pants.”
he smiled a bit.
“i think you’re lying.”
“i’m not.”
“baby— i can tell something’s bothering you.” he continued to pry and you pursed your lips, looking up at him finally.
“that girl was kind of weird…”
“girl?” he cocked his head to the side. “which girl?”
you paused. “the— the one that came up to you and told you her name and complimented you—”
“oh.” his dark blue eyes blinked and trailed off like he was searching his brain for answers, him ultimately left clueless. “sorry i actually forgot everything she said.”
you snorted, leaning forward and covering your mouth as you giggled and shook your head, somehow your boyfriend forgetting the interaction as a whole making you feel better.
“you’re so cute gumi.” you stood up on your tippy toes and gave him a big fat kiss on the cheek. “now let’s find my best friend— bright pants! i see yuji’s bright pants!
you grabbed his wrist and quickly weaved through the crowd, your girl friend’s police officer costume coming into view as you let go of megumi and flung your arms around her neck, her immediately recognizing that it was you and gasping.
“oh my god i lost you y/n! i’m sorry!” she hugged you back and you frantically shook your head.
“no it’s okay!” you pointed to megumi. “he got called up to the dj booth i was distracted—”
“they kept asking you a bunch of questions and none for me man!” yuji pouted at megumi, your best friend laughing.
“they probably got tired of you giving shout outs to the tiki bar every year when you’re up there babe.” she smoothed a hand over his bicep. “and also because megumi came out of his bat cave for the first time in decades…”
you leaned and placed your lips to her ear.
“i have to tell you something.”
“what?! what?!” she whipped her head around and looked at yuji. “yu! go to the tiki bar please with megumi i think we all left our mugs there—”
“oh my fucking god we did!” he shoved his hands in his pink hair, completely horrified. “fushiguro let’s go we have to go—”
“why the fuck do i have to go—”
“no questions come on!”
yuji yanked megumi by his white button up and they tumbled through the crowd, you laughing hard as megumi looked at you over his shoulder— a pleading disgruntled look on his face.
“okay i got rid of them now tell me.”
“girl get ready.” you slowly shook your head, eyes wide. “because i think i’m about to crash out.”
“it’s that bad?!” she placed her hands on your shoulders. “what happened?!”
“a fan of megumi’s came up to him earlier.” you began. “but the things she was saying were putting me a little off.”
her brows furrowed. “what did she say?”
“first she said that them meeting was fate.” you gnawed at your bottom lip. “and then she started saying how much she admired him and loved him on the field which is fine but—”
“not fine but go on.”
you giggled and continued.
“she barely acknowledged me… like at all. she thought i was megumi’s friend even though his arm was around my waist—”
“huh?!” her eyes narrowed. “is she fucking stupid? what’s her name?”
“hana and— i don’t know!” you whined. “but then she literally said ‘do i hear wedding bells’ and ‘when’s the ceremony’ when he said her name—”
“what the fuck?!” she yelled. “y/n this girl was straight up flirting with him in front of you! oh my god if someone was doing that to me with yuji i’d be going to prison!”
“i was thinking—” you hesitated. “that maybe she was just really affectionate but i just feel like somethings not right.”
“hell no it’s not.” she shook her head. “y/n you need to stop being so nice all of the time and bite. next time some shit like this happens you need to say something. please don’t let yourself be disrespected like that.”
she patted your shoulders and released you, crossing her arms. “and what did megumi say?”
“oh he forgot it all!” you beamed. “i think he was barely listening to what she was saying.”
“HAH! okay that’s fine i won’t beat him.”
you playfully rolled your eyes and smiled. “i just wanna take shots from the bamboo pole and forget about it.”
“oh! it’s coming around!” your girl friend frantically looked around. “i saw it pass by and a group do it! it should come back—”
she stopped.
“what does hana look like?”
you quirked a brow.
“uhh short blonde hair? she’s dressed up as an angel.”
“oh my fucking god.” she muttered. “turn around.”
you did, heart dropping once you saw that she was talking to megumi again at the tiki bar, animatedly and close to him that you nearly took your cupid wings off and chucked them at her.
“what the hell is she doing?” you mumbled. “gumi!”
megumi’s head snapped up from his hunched over position on the bar, head swiftly looking around until he spotted you and without another thought pushed himself from the counter and walked, leaving hana there with her mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water, cutting off whatever she was saying to him prior.
you tugged him in once he got to you and snaked your arms around his shoulders, pulling him in and placing your face into his neck.
“you okay?” he asked over the music, rubbing slow circles on your hips with his thumbs.
“mhm!” you nodded. “was just wondering if you wanted to do bamboo pole shots with me.”
he huffed out an amused breath and squeezed you. “sure baby. don’t take too many though i don’t want you to get sick.”
“no promises!” you grinned.
hana knew from the moment she bumped into you who you were.
how could she not? the only woman that managed to somehow sliver her way in megumi’s life and beat her to the game was like a broken record in hana’s mind— over and over you played and taunted her with every appearance she saw you with him, with every game and event and social media posting from him you were always there— sweet and beautiful with the angelic reputation of changing megumi for the better and treating others so fairly, physically stinging her eyes every time she saw it on the tabloids or on tv.
megumi was supposed to be hers, and when she lost the game she didn’t know.
but her number one goal the minute she learned that megumi was in attendance at the party, was that she was gonna try with her life to make him see that he was destined for her. not for you.
though it wasn’t working like she thought it would.
through the times she’s pulled him and talked to him and flashed him sweet smiles and compliments, trying to copy the entity that you were so he would at least so spare her a fucking glance and listen to what she had to say— wasn’t working as he always disregarded her and straight up treated her like she wasn’t even there.
because of you.
and she was getting desperate.
increasingly so as she watched you and megumi and your little friends line up to take shots from the bamboo pole, all of you having fun and surrounded by people that loved you— for you were the absolute life of the party as you pulled various others from the crowd to do shots with you and rejoice, hana staring from afar with rage as she couldn’t help but just hate you with every kiss and laugh that megumi gave you.
and once hana saw an opening with megumi, him stepped off to the side as he watched you continue to down shots with your friends like nothing with amused eyes, she pushed her way through towards the bamboo line with a new immoral objective of getting him to just be interested in her and forget about you so that you’d crack, evidently showing him and everyone else that you weren’t so angelic and poised after all.
“megumi!”
he felt a tap on his shoulder and turned around, indefinitely confused as to why the same girl kept pulling him for chats once he noticed who it was.
“hi?”
“sorry just saw you by the bamboo line.” she smiled. “have you taken any?”
“uh like two.”
megumi looked over his shoulder, attempting to keep an eye on you while at the same time talking to her and already thinking of ways he could cut it short, wanting to just go back to you and make sure you weren’t feeling sick or that a random dude wasn’t preying on you like a dog.
“i don’t know how you can do that!” she shook her head and giggled. “i don’t really drink like that.”
“i usually don’t either.”
pathetic hope washed through her body like an avalanche, her face lighting up over the similarity and the fact that he was actually continuing the conversation with her instead of brushing her off.
“really?!” she gushed. “what a coincidence! it’s like you’re my other half hehe.”
megumi froze.
why was she always telling him the most obscure things?
“um—”
“are you nervous for your league championship game coming up?”
several hoots and hollers made megumi turn around and see that you had taken a cocktail waitress’ tray and was literally doing her job for her— handing out shots to whoever and excitedly bouncing on your toes in response to those who accepted.
“megumi.”
he snapped his head back around.
“huh?”
“i said—” her eyes flickered to you before returning to him. “i said are you nervous for your league game?”
“somewhat.”
“you shouldn’t be!” she reached up and smoothed a hand over his shoulder, her heart pumping that she was touching him. “you’re the best on the team! you’re practically the reason why you guys win all of the time i’ve—”
you saw what she did.
and maybe it was the alcohol in your system making you bratty and the fact that you were a bit overly tipsy, but you also saw the way he let himself be caressed on the shoulder like that without any consideration for you, wondering why he wasn’t stopping the conversation as a whole and coming back to you and instead entertaining her, even after all of the weird shit she had told him before in front of you.
why didn’t he care?
you smiled at the cocktail waitress and gave her back her tray, though it didn’t quite reach your eyes as you tried to look around for your best friend, itching to get confirmation on whether or not you were being batshit crazy or if your feelings were valid as you searched— but halting once you heard megumi’s familiar squeaky laugh that he only let out with you.
megumi was laughing. wholeheartedly. and so was she.
what the fuck was so funny?
“hey—” your girl friend waved her hand in front of your face. “babe are you okay? why are you crying?”
what?
you reached a hand up and touched your cheek, your fingers sure enough shimmering and wet under the purple lights once you pulled them away.
“i don’t—” your lip wobbled. “i don’t know i— i think it’s just because i’m tipsy—”
“where is megumi?” her concerned gaze scanned the crowd until they landed on him, eyes narrowing instantly as she scoffed and shook her head.
“what is this?” she threw her hands up. “ditch my girlfriend for some other bitch day? megumi!”
he jumped and spun around, an initial annoyed look on his face over the way your best friend screamed at him, but eyes widening once he saw your shaking shoulders and covered face.
oh god.
megumi took long stride full steps away from hana to get to you, her sickeningly content with the fact that her presence alone with him upset you so much and threw you off your poised demeanor, thinking it was only a matter of time now before you took out your frustrations on him and drove him away— bonus points if you made a scene.
“what happened?” he hurriedly asked, gripping your shoulders and turning you around in his direction. “baby what happened why are you—”
you pushed him away and hiccuped.
“i don’t wanna talk to you right now.”
“what? why not?” his eyebrows furrowed. “hey—”
he reached to pull you in by the waist and you dodged his hand, turning around in the process and pushing your way through the crowd to get away from him, his heart sinking as he wasted no time in following after you.
“baby please—”
“no.” you stubbornly responded, damning the alcohol for making you act so irrationally. “why don’t you keep talking to other girls all willy nilly without giving a single fuck about me—”
“what?” he spoke sharply, completely thrown off. “okay no hold on—”
megumi picked up speed and engulfed his arms around your torso, lifting you up and taking you down a secluded hallway away from the main area while you thrashed and whined in his hold.
“let me go!”
“no.”
you sniffled.
“gumi let me go.”
“are you gonna tell me what’s wrong?”
he turned into a darkened corner and slowed.
“no.”
he bit down on your arm and you yelped.
“okay yes i will!”
he loosened his arms and gently set you back down on your feet, nudging you around as he bent his knees to look at you at eye level.
“what’s wrong.” he pushed. “are you hurt?”
you shook your head and hiccuped, fingers coming up to carefully wipe your tears away without ruining too much of your makeup.
“why do you keep talking to her?” you mumbled.
“to who?”
“to hana.”
“hana?” his eyebrows furrowed. “who’s hana?”
“the one that keeps coming up to you!” you expressed. “what did she tell you back there? while i was handing out shots?”
“oh she— she was asking me about the league game.”
“did she say anything weird again?” you crossed your arms.
fuck.
“she did baby…” he spoke softly.
your teary eyes snapped open.
“actually? what did she say?”
megumi really didn’t want to upset you any further, but he wasn’t about to shamefully lie to you either.
“she called me her other half.”
“are you serious?” you hiccuped. “and you just let her?”
“i didn’t let her—”
“this whole time you’ve been letting her i’ve seen you!” you sobbed. “she touches you way too much and has been pulling you for chats all fucking night saying things that are completely disrespectful to me and you say nothing!”
“i—”
“and then you’re laughing with her after she called you her other half? and laughing like you do with me?” you put your hands up defensively. “i’m sorry didn’t know you guys were the best of friends now—”
“baby— i wasn’t laughing at anything she said some drunk idiot tripped and fell on his face behind her.“ he placed his hands on each side of your head and you stopped. “and i swear to god that i didn’t realize any of those things because i don’t give a shit about anyone else but you and i’m sorry.”
“but she literally said do i hear wedding bells and when’s the ceremony!” you cried, the alcohol triggering a new wave of waterworks as you covered your face. “how could you not realize that—”
“no i know baby i know that’s on me.” he gently moved your hair away from your face. “everything she was saying was so foul and i was just letting it happen and i’m so fucking sorry that i didn’t put my foot down from the start. my entire focus is always on you and i was too stupid to realize you were hurting.”
“you’re not stupid gumi—”
“yes i am.” he delicately pried your hands away from your face. “yes i am and you don’t ever have to worry about things like this okay? the only thing that matters to me is you. and i can’t tell you how sorry i am for putting you in this position and making you cry.”
“no it’s me i—” you hiccuped, cheeks buzzing with embarrassment. “i’m sorry gumi i just got jealous and i overreacted and i’m tipsy so it made everything worse. i didn’t mean to yell at you…”
he shook his head, murmuring as he pulled you into his chest. “no you have nothing to be sorry for… i would go nuts if some dude told you the same shit she told me.”
you giggled a little, and megumi was so glad that you had stepped up and said something, especially over something as drastic as this, for you were always too sweet and chose to swallow back things that bothered you around him.
“i would never do that to you pretty baby.” he mumbled. “i would never let anyone else in… just you.”
you pulled away from his chest and quickly shook your head. “n—no gumi i know you wouldn’t. please don’t think that i’m accusing you or anything—”
“no absolutely not.” he spoke gently, thumbs reaching up to carefully wipe away the tears from your pretty face. “i just needed to tell you that… okay?”
you nodded. “okay.”
you stood on your tippy toes and wrapped your arms around his neck, his right away coming around your waist and pulling you in tight— nuzzling his nose into the soft skin of your shoulder as relief washed over his body that you weren’t upset with him anymore.
“are you tipsy like me?” you whispered cutely after a few seconds of comfortable silence, and he chuckled.
“yes.” he admitted. “i think i lost my phone.”
“gumi i feel it in your pocket.”
“i think that’s my dick.”
“gumi!” you nudged him away and giggled hard, a silly small grin spreading across his handsome face as you simmered down and looked at him, lips coming up for a kiss and him gladly leaning down to give you one— the moment sweet and tender as you wetly lip locked and megumi drank you in, him completely fucking deprived of you.
“can we go home.” he spoke in between kisses. “i wanna fuck.”
you laughed and pulled away, face hot as you bit back a smile. “we can go in a little bit baby. i still wanna see if my best friend and i can talk to the nfl cheerleaders heh.”
he chuckled and nodded, pecking your forehead before releasing you and beginning the walk back to the main area, your head in a better place now that you got the reassurance you needed— and so grateful you and megumi were able to bounce back after a situation like that with no repercussions, amazed time and time again at how understanding and patient your boyfriend was with you.
you moved your way through the crowd then in search for your best friend, not having to look for long seeing as she was right in the middle where you had left her— her yelling up and down if anyone had seen either you or megumi and harassing whoever that said they might’ve caught a glance.
“y/n!” yuji pointed, and your girl friend whirled around with frantic wide eyes, running and tackling you into a big hug as she cried.
“where were you?!” she sobbed. “oh my god i was looking everywhere for you you were so upset i thought the she devil took you away or broke you and megumi up or killed you—”
you gasped. “no oh my goodness please don’t cry!” your lip started to wobble again as you listened to her sniffles, hugging her back. “hell no i would never let her do any of that!”
“me neither!” she cried. “please let me get violent with her please—”
you laughed loudly and stepped back, carefully wiping her cheeks before treating yours as both of your men stared dumbfounded.
“fuck hana forget her we have to find the cheerleaders!” you exclaimed, placing your hands on her shoulders and shaking her. “are they still here?! have you checked their socials?!”
“yes! they’re still here!” she frantically nodded. “i saw one while i was looking for you she was—”
“is that one?”
megumi pointed to a girl who was straight up wearing her nfl cheerleader uniform with her pompoms, both you and your girl friend choking on air and gasping as you sputtered a bunch of nonsense and dragged your men with you over to her and her group.
“this is our chance this is our chance—”
why hadn’t it worked?
had hana not upset you enough? tore you down enough to an insecure little bubble to make you bark and bite and be everything that she thought megumi despised? what had happened when she lost the sights of both of you once you left the bamboo line?
because what she was looking at now was making her sick with rage.
you, surrounded by people again and cheerleaders— still stunning and breathtaking and not looking at all like you had just cried buckets like she thought you did, megumi’s arms around you from behind and actually closer now than before while you and your little girl friend conversed and laughed with the cheerleaders about god knows what, hana on the verge of screaming in agony over everything that was going wrong when she had expected a break up right about now.
she just didn’t get it… what was so great about you?
and it didn’t get any better when she started asking other people about you too throughout the night, the purpose being to dish out any nasty information she could of you to use it to her advantage, but getting straight fucking nothing from it as no one had a single bad thing to say about you— referring to you as ‘fushiguro’s girl’ and how sweet and welcoming you were even if you had just met them, how funny you were and pretty and thoughtful and hana was just sick.
had she actually lost to you? had she lost megumi? after being in love with him since the start of his contract?
she thought she had gotten your entity down. hana thought she had managed to morph herself into someone like you since she found out megumi and you were together from the tabloids— watching you and your social media postings since then to see what you had done to turn his head, megumi someone she thought would never find love until she got to him eventually.
and at this point without hana wanting to admit it, she was more obsessed with you than she was with him.
because she cared. she cared so much about everything that you did— the perfumes you wore, the ribbons in your hair, her stomach in complete utter knots watching the way megumi was with you all unfold in front of her in real time, cursing her jealous rotten eyes for how hard they fell for you and how much she worshipped all that you did.
how much megumi worshipped you.
because every time you took pictures with your friends he only looked at you, every move you made he followed after you, every time she tried to talk to him he dismissed her for you, and even every person that knew who you were at this fucking party absolutely loved and adored you.
it just wasn’t fair. why couldn’t megumi love her?
so what could she do? what else could she do?
leaning against the counter of the tiki bar, gaze fixed on megumi’s blushing cheeks and little smile with his face and button up covered in red lipstick kisses she didn’t doubt were from you, him looking at angelic you like you were the sun itself… she conquered that there wasn’t much she could do anymore.
“blue lagoon please.”
hana watched from the corner of her eye the man that just came up to the bar, bored and uninterested and on the verge of deciding to just go home, until she noticed who it was.
ino takuma.
she slightly turned her body in his direction, his eyes drifting to hers momentarily before flashing her a polite smile and looking away again.
“you’re ino takuma… with megumi fushiguro’s team right? for the mlb?”
he turned his head. “oh yes! i am. nice to meet you!”
hana gave him a quick smile.
“do you know his girlfriend by any chance? y/n?”
“yeah of course!” he grinned, a bit drunk. “she’s great. really sweet.”
god, well aren’t you just the greatest thing to ever exist?
she held back her agitation, ino receiving his drink from the bartender and slurping it down immediately.
“i actually was interested in her for a while.” he admitted with the straw in his mouth, loopy and inebriated. “but megumi got to her first… lucky guy.”
her ears perked up.
“do you still like her?”
ino thought for a moment.
“well… a little.” he pursed his lips, a very slight pink hue to his cheeks. “never got to explore it but every time we talk she’s kinda like the one that got away heh… that’s if megumi isn’t pulling her away when i try though.”
a devilish idea sparked in hana’s mind, because at this point— the woman was out for carnage.
and whether megumi ended up with her or not she didn’t care. right now? she just needed to break you both up.
“that’s kind of wrong, don’t you think?” she sighed heavily. “why don’t you try talking to her now? just you two! there’s a hallway by the other side of the penthouse that’s secluded… you’ll get a proper chance to have a conversation!”
ino looked at her like she was insane.
“megumi would actually bite my head off.”
“that’s why you do it away from him and away from everybody else!” she shook her head disappointedly. “what, she can’t be friends with you? you have every right to talk to her ino! so go for it.”
ino looked over to where you were, apprehensive as he gnawed at the inside of his cheek and actually really wanting to talk to you without megumi breathing down his neck for once… but the alcohol in his system making it hard for him to juggle whether it was the right choice or not to begin with.
“have you guys ever tried for cheer teams before?!”
you and your best friend frantically shook your heads no, excited expressions as you hung out with half of the cheerleaders from one of the top nfl teams by the dj booth.
“you should try out for ours!” one of them suggested over the music, a huge smile on her face. “seriously! you guys would do so well and you already know most of us!”
“oh my god i would but i don’t even know if i can do a split!” you whined. “if i show up i’m gonna look like a fucking idiot.”
“i’m weak i’m un-athletic.” your best friend added miserably and they laughed— a different pretty one shaking her head.
“don’t even worry about that!” she waved her hand dismissively. “i’ll literally personally talk to the coach!”
you looked at her wide eyed. “really?! wait no it’s okay! you don’t have to do that i feel bad—”
a different one stepped up. “no she’s the captain she’ll do it!”
“oh fuck!” you slapped your hands over your mouth.
“honestly?! actually?!” your girl friend exclaimed.
“our team prioritizes character over ability!” the captain spoke again. “ability can be taught, not character, and you two are the prettiest and funniest bitches i have ever met.”
you all screamed and laughed as you and your best friend shook each other by the shoulders, unbelieving that you were being scouted right fucking now by the best nfl cheerleaders out there.
“here— give me your numbers and put your emails down too—”
the captain pulled her phone out and swiped through a few apps before turning it over to you, you typing out your information on her notes app and passing it to your best friend after for her to do the same.
“i’ll contact you guys tomorrow morning!” you both nodded and thanked her profusely, her smile bright as she took her phone back and gave you both a thumbs up. “please keep in touch with me or i’ll die.”
you and your best friend vowed that you would with more frantic nods and hugs, you spinning around to face megumi as the team conversed amongst themselves for a moment.
“did you hear?!” you asked, eyes glowing and shiny with hope. “gumi did you hear?! they said— the captain— she got my number— tomorrow morning—”
megumi laughed at your hyper yet spacey behavior, nodding and smiling warmly at you as he pulled you in by the waist, not even phased in the slightest that you and your girl friend got along so well with the cheerleaders— but still a bit shocked nonetheless that you’d basically been offered a spot on the team and you only needed to finalize a few things with them.
“i did.” he gently spoke nudging your chin up, ruffling your hair then as he looked at you sincerely. “that’s really really good baby. good job getting on their radar.”
your face broke out into a gigantic smile and you quickly pecked his cheek. “thank you thank you oh my god i need a drink right now i need to calm down—”
megumi playfully rolled his eyes and released your waist. “i can go get you one.”
“are— are you sure gumi?” you gnawed at your bottom lip. “no it’s okay i can get it—”
he silently shook his head and kissed your forehead. “no baby you have fun… just stay here.”
you smiled sweetly at him and reluctantly nodded, watching him turn and walk through the crowd towards the tiki bar as you shifted your attention back to your girl friend and the cheerleaders.
“no you’re lying.”
“i’m not babe!” your best friend laughed. “they got our contact information and i swear to god they really want us to come try out.”
“holy shit.” yuji shoved his hands in his hair. “holy shit i’m gonna have an nfl cheerleader girlfriend.”
“right?!—”
“holy fuck you’re gonna look so good in those uniforms—”
“i know right?!—”
yuji and your best friend jumped up and down and cheered loudly as you giggled alongside them, your mind completely preoccupied with the thought of how lucky you just were to gain leverage and connections like that with a professional dance team at an event like this.
“we’re gonna head home in a little bit after this!” you mentioned to your girl friend after her and yuji settled, her shoulders slumping in response. “i’m just gonna get one more drink before we go.”
“lame!” she pouted. “is megumi okay to drive?”
“yes he sobered up!” you smiled. “not me man jesus christ.”
your best friend laughed and reached over to give you a hug. “okay just text me when you get to his place—”
“y/n.”
you both stopped and turned, ino takuma behind you with a sheepish smile.
“oh hi ino!” you greeted him kindly. “i didn’t realize you were here! you okay?”
“no yeah! yeah i’m alright. been hogging the bar or upstairs with some of the hockey players.” he smiled warmly. “thanks for asking.”
“mhm!” you nodded. “that tiki bar is crazy every single drink they have is so good.”
he nodded vigorously. “it’s why i’m practically shitfaced right now god.”
you laughed at his phrasing, ino realizing then that he dangerously still kind of liked you with the way he swooned a bit over your smile.
“do you wanna—” he hesitated. “do you wanna talk? over there? for a little..”
“over—” you peered over his shoulder, him pointing to the other side of the purple lit penthouse at a darkened hallway. “over there?”
“y—yeah… if that’s okay!” ino scratched the back of his neck. “it’s just kinda loud here… and i haven’t had the chance to properly talk to you in a while.”
“oh!” you nodded, thinking his intentions were purely innocent and justifiable, feeling bad yourself that you hadn’t spoken to him in some time after megumi’s practices. “yes of course! i’m so sorry ino i’ve been so busy i—”
“no it’s okay don’t!” he grinned. “it’s not your fault whatsoever i just—”
you and ino began your walk to the other side of the penthouse, your best friend and yuji shooting each other weird looks that went unnoticed by you, ino leading you away from the crowd and to the other side of the main area.
you’ve always respected and had a really great impression of ino, him never failing to be kind to you since the moment he introduced himself at the banquet way back when— helpful and genuine and not a bad bone in his body as he was a hard worker for the team and catered to all, you touched that he always took the time to greet you at least once every time you were there for megumi at his baseball events.
“how are you and megumi doing?” he asked, crossing his arms as he casually leaned against the wall of the hallway, you wringing your fingers behind your back and doing the same.
“we’re great!” you beamed. “our two year anniversary is coming up soon!
“oh wow!” he tightly smiled. “it’s been two years already? shit.”
you giggled and nodded. “i know! time flies hehe.”
ino dismissed the slight growing pit in his stomach, the alcohol in his system obnoxiously amplifying his crush for you as he tried to simmer it down and just conversate with you while he still had you on your own.
but he didn’t think it’d be this hard— his drunk mind blurring the definitions of morality and respect as his judgement was sloppy and you were just so fucking pretty, ashamed of the way he was thinking how a bubbly sweet girl like you ended up with someone as stoic and stern like megumi, someone who was the complete opposite of who you were.
“…are you okay ino?” you spoke softly, eyebrows pinched in concern at the distant look in his eye.
“huh? oh yeah! s—sorry i just—” his cheeks heated up. “i’m tipsy don’t pay that much attention to me.”
“oh no don’t even i am too!” you laughed. “i had two drinks from the tiki bar and like four shots from the bamboo pole.”
he looked at you incredulously. “how are you standing?”
“i don’t know!” you covered your mouth and leaned forward, coming back up against the wall once you calmed down and took a deep breath. “i’m good though i’m great.”
he smiled softly. “you are… and you look really good by the way.”
you faltered a bit but quickly fixed your demeanor, knowing ino only meant that in a friendly way and completely missing the way his drunken gaze flickered to your boobs momentarily before returning to your eyes, his cheeks flaring up at what he did.
and the angel on his right shoulder was absolutely beating the devil on his left for planting two guilty images in his head then.
one imagine that was lewd and sinful and one he wanted to get rid of immediately.
and another image of what it would be like to kiss you…
just once.
“fushiguro! what can i get you?”
megumi was hunched over the tiki bar with his elbows on the counter, his eyes scanning the drink menu as he tried to decipher which drink to get you that you’d like, knowing the fruitier ones were particularly your favorite.
“um… do you have anything that isn’t strong on alcohol.”
the bartender pointed to the menu, megumi’s gaze landing on ‘jungle bird’.
“this one’s your best bet.” he took his barrel shaker out to prepare for megumi’s order. “i can also cut back the alcohol some more if you want me to.”
he nodded. “is it like— fruity.”
“yeah!” he grabbed a glass from the back. “i’ll cut back the alcohol and add more pineapple juice to it so it’s better.”
“thank you.” megumi sent him a thin smile, the bartender giving him a thumbs up before turning his back to him and getting to work, him not even realizing that hana was standing next to him at the bar.
“you getting another drink?”
megumi’s eyes flung to the source of the voice, annoyance pumping through his veins as he saw it was the same girl that had upset you, and the same one who wouldn’t leave him the fuck alone.
“yeah for my girlfriend.” he responded flatly.
hana hummed. “nice! where is she?”
“back over—”
he looked over his shoulder and stopped, instantly straightening up when he didn’t see you in the crowd anymore and worry spiking through… as he knew you were a little tipsy and naive at the moment.
“hmm… weird! actually you know what? i did see her walk away earlier!”
his gaze snapped to hers, hana thrilled since this was the first time he actually looked at her in the face.
“where.”
“with ino takuma!”
his eyes narrowed. “what?”
“yeah! i saw them talking in that little secluded area on the other side… they looked kind of cozy in there i don’t know.”
cozy?
“what do you mean.”
“mmm—” she looked up in thought. “from what i saw she pulled him to talk… and it kind of looked like she was all over him… sorry megumi. i’m just trying to look out for you—”
all over him?
oh fuck no.
megumi stepped to the side and drowned her out, squinting his eyes to try and see if he could spot you on the other side where you supposedly were until he did— you and takuma in a little corner talking and laughing, him obviously drooling over your tits and alarmingly too close to you as megumi’s jaw hardened.
it looked like he was about to fucking kiss you.
“—i would never do that to you what your girlfriend is doing is disrespectful—”
megumi moved without a single word and bumped shoulders with hana on the way, her staggering back a little and scoffing as she watched him disappear to the darker side of the penthouse.
and megumi was furious.
because how many fucking times did he have to make it obvious to takuma that you were off limits, that you had been off limits that you were never on limits? and why were you both so far away from everybody else? from him? why had you pulled him to talk? what for?
megumi understood from the get go exactly why you were so upset about hana saying absurd things to him throughout the night, but with the sight of you now pressed up against the wall as takuma was basically cornering you in, the both of you all alone and secluded and him knowing you were too helpless and nice to call out when a person was being weird— really put the situation into perspective now that the roles were reversed.
and he hated it. hated it so much.
so so much as his mind raced and spun with jealousy over another man wanting to sweet talk his girl, immense venom in his chest thinking ino was actually fucking insane for even attempting such a thing as he shoved and pushed through the stubborn crowd until he—
“what the fuck are you doing.”
megumi grabbed your wrist and tugged you behind him while he looked straight at ino, his pull a little rougher than he intended as he created distance between the two of you.
“oh— hi gumi!” you greeted happily. “look it’s—”
“did you hear what i said?”
“yeah— yup yup—” ino cleared his throat and shot back, face paling over what he almost did. “i was just um— talking to y/n.”
“talking.” he repeated. “and you were about to kiss her too right?”
“no i—” ino looked over at you. “i’m sorry y/n i don’t know what—”
“huh?” your eyes snapped back and forth between them. “gumi what do you mean—”
megumi jerked his head down in your direction. “did you pull him for a chat or did he pull you?”
you shrunk back a little, your boyfriend’s usual gentle eyes now sharp and crazed and one you had never seen from him besides through particular tough games on the field.
“he— he pulled me but why does it matter—”
“why does it matter?”
his head shot back to ino, gaze narrowing.
“what the hell did you think you were gonna get out of this?” he spoke harshly. “taking her over here away from everybody else? away from me?”
“fushiguro—”
“so i wouldn’t see right?” he stepped forward and you quickly grabbed his button up from the back. “so i wouldn’t see you try and sweet talk her and change her mind? to take advantage of her? knowing she’s too nice to say no?”
“no man i would never.” he shook his head. “never i—”
“you’re full of shit.” he spat. “you think i’m an idiot? you think i don’t know what you were just about to do with her?”
“gumi stop it—”
you tried to come around his frame but he only pulled you back behind him.
“megumi— i’m sorry man i really am i’m drunk right now and—”
“so you think that makes it okay for you to try to make a move on her?” he shook his head in disbelief. “she’s in a relationship with me ino. we play on the same sports team what the fuck are you doing?”
“i— i don’t know—”
“you still like her then?”
what.
“no i don’t—”
“don’t bullshit.”
ino ran an exasperated hand down his face. “okay fuck a little!”
“well that’s too damn bad!” megumi shot back. “get your own.”
ino felt horrible.
fushiguro was right. everything he was saying was absolutely right and he had never felt so much shame as he looked at stunning you through the cracks of megumi’s arms, for he not only fucked up his friendship with his teammate, someone he works with, but with you. a person like you an utter loss if driven away— him more than sure that that’s exactly what he did just now.
and what compelled him to do this in the first place? he couldn’t remember anymore.
“fushiguro punch me.”
megumi looked at him bewildered while you gasped, frozen in place.
“huh?”
“sock the shit out of me right now.”
“m’not gonna do that idiot even though you deserve it—”
“no do it right now i’m serious and we’ll call it even.”
megumi rolled his eyes. “go home takuma—”
“do it or i’ll kiss y/n—”
megumi instantly reeled his fist back and knocked the fuck out ino’s jaw, blood boiling and chest heaving over what he said as you slapped a hand over your mouth in shock, ino hunched over with a hand on his face.
“thanks.” he choked out.
“we’re not even dingus.” megumi mumbled. “but go home.”
ino nodded, sending you one last apologetic look before stepping away from the two of you and down the hall until he was out of view.
“what the fuck was that—”
“did he try anything else?” he cut you off.
you looked up at him, trying to peer around his shoulder at his face. “n—no he didn’t he didn’t try anything—”
“he didn’t try anything?” he turned around, brows furrowed. “baby— he was staring at your tits and he tried to kiss you.”
“how?!” you exclaimed, genuinely confused. “we were just talking and—”
“why did you go with him when he pulled you to talk.”
you blinked. “because it’s ino. he’s a friend i didn’t think anything bad of it…”
“you didn’t think anything bad of him taking you to some dark fucking place without anyone else around?”
“i—i’m sorry gumi.” you gnawed at your bottom lip, it registering in your dumbass brain now how shady ino’s request was to talk to you in the middle of an empty hallway. “i didn’t…”
“you didn’t?”
he stepped forward and your eyes widened as he backed you further and further up against the wall, lips coming down next to your ear as he placed his palms flat next to either sides of your head.
the logical and empathetic part of megumi’s brain was yelling at him not to utter his next few words, that he ran the risk of deeply upsetting you and ripping open the bandaid of what you two had previously just cured… but the rest of his brain and entire fucking body and soul was livid.
livid at takuma for taking advantage of your kindness, livid at him for thinking he could successfully pull the shit that he pulled while you were naive and sweet, and livid at every single god damn man in this building for preying after you like a piece of meat and like he wasn’t just standing right there next to you with a hand on your hip.
and megumi was gonna flip it back on you… his anger completely misdirected as he was delirious and fucked off after the events of today and wanted to rile little you up— afraid to admit that he was shaken at the fact that he could’ve potentially lost you to someone as respectable as takuma, for as stupid and shitty and drunk as he was earlier… ino wasn’t a bad person in the slightest.
you matched better with someone like him.
and he didn’t like that at all.
“what if hana had pulled me here hm? to a place where nobody else was around..?”
your brows furrowed.
“w—what—”
“what if she was the one to pull me in this dark empty hallway to try and kiss me?”
you swallowed, jealousy and venom swirling in your chest as you breathed out shakily through your nose, a picture perfect image of the stupid scene megumi was describing sending a sting of agitation through your insides as you narrowed your eyes at him, his hidden underneath the front pieces of his black spiky bangs.
“why are you telling me this.”
he didn’t respond, his splayed out hands balling up into fists.
“do you get off to this? is that what’s going on?”
the tremor behind your voice and your shaking shoulders broke him out of his dark clouded fog and he straightened up, regret hitting him like a brick once he noticed your teary eyes and angry furrowed brows.
“shit i’m sorry i’m sorry—”
you snatched his wrist and yanked him with you out of the hallway, him stumbling behind you as he sputtered out apologies and pleas for you to turn around, for you to look at him as you pushed your way through the crowd back at the main penthouse area.
“pretty baby please i’m so fucking sorry—”
you said nothing, and anxiety welled up in his chest, wondering where you were going and if you were crying as he tried to nudge back and stop you, you only pulling on him harder as you reached the stairs of the main area.
a drunk random guy made himself known from the crowd and leaned over suddenly, his eyes wide and comically bewitched by you as he placed a hand on your shoulder.
“oh my god— you are so beautiful!”
you looked at him rattled as you tried to get away from his strong grip, megumi’s mind over the fucking edge at this point as he grabbed his wrist and jerked it off your shoulder with such a force that it sent him tripping over his feet.
“the fuck do you think you’re doing moron?!”
“oh is she your girl?” he put his hands up defensively. “my bad she’s hot—”
megumi lunged and you quickly wrapped your arms around his torso to pull him back, wrestling with him as you dragged him up the grand stairs of the penthouse.
“baby let me go.” he spoke firmly and out of breath. “let me go right now—”
you ignored him as you tugged at his wrist again and continued up the stairs, him clamping his mouth shut and shitting himself, ashamed of his temper and the behavior he’d been exhibiting left and right as he was sure you were about to break up with him once you found the appropriate setting to do it in, his eyes cast down to the ground and filled with remorse.
you speed walked down the wide hall, pumps clacking against the shiny tile flooring as you opened several doors before you found a vacant bedroom, dragging him in and slamming the door closed behind you with the click of a lock, the music from downstairs now a distant vibration through the walls.
and megumi kept rushing out apologies, trying to explain himself as you turned and closed in on him at the edge of the bed, shoving him down and climbing over him in a straddle as his words got caught in his throat, looking up at you with round eyes.
“baby..?”
he watched you lean back and slowly, tenderly, undo each and every cross and knot from the front of your corset, your little cupid wings long gone now as your gaze stayed glued to his, your bottom lip pulled between your teeth in a little smile.
megumi cautiously propped up on his elbows, observing the way your soft tits spilled out of your corset as you gracefully undid it entirely, throwing it next to you and tilting your upper body down to his level sensually while his heart pattered against his chest— his lips reaching and connecting with the side of your neck as he placed slow open wet mouthed kisses alongside it, licking after each one before starting anew.
he breathed in sharply through his nose then and pulled away. “wait— baby first i’m sorry okay? i’m so sorry—”
“be quiet gumi.” you murmured against his jaw, trailing little sucks and nips at the skin as his eyes fluttered closed, him nearly missing how you tugged your mini skirt off and left yourself with just your lacy panties on top of him— rubbing your pussy teasingly over his clothed cock.
“fuck.” he breathed out, his trembling hands undoing his button up as he hastily sat up and shook it off his shoulders, tossing the white cotton material somewhere in the room and enveloping you in his arms, desperately sucking and biting over the flesh of your tits and nipples as you moaned so sweetly in his ear.
you pressed your pussy down hard on his crotch, megumi moaning with a mouthful of tit as he sat back on his elbows again and rode his hips up to meet yours, obsessed with the way you looked on top of him now with your thigh high socks on and pretty little face— unsure of how the events from earlier led up to this moment but choosing not to question it whatsoever, eyelids blissfully closed as you ran your hands up and down his chest tenderly, rutting on him.
“i wanna fuck you gumi.” you pouted, and megumi swore he saw stars. “take your pants off—”
his hands dived for the waistband of his jeans, fumbling with the buckle of his belt and chest moving rapidly as he hurriedly unclasped it, slipping it off and tossing it to the other side of the room— you swinging a leg off of him so he could kick the rest of his clothes off, megumi grabbing you and settling you back over his lap once he was bare.
you tugged your panties off and sat your puffy lower wet lips on his aching cock, sliding over it deliciously and slowly before lifting and lining his dick up with your hole, sinking down on him as megumi’s eyes rolled back at the feeling.
“you like it baby?” you huffed as you bounced on his dick. “does it feel good?”
megumi lustfully nodded as he reached to place his hands on your waist, you slapping them away and his eyes flying open in response— eyebrows pinching.
“wait—” he bit back a moan as you started going faster. “let me—”
“touch me and i stop.”
“what?” he shook his head. “no don’t do that—”
he reached for you again and you slapped his hands away.
“i said no gumi.”
what the fuck?
megumi reached again and you straightened up on your knees, his dick slipping out of you and landing with a heavy thud on his lower tummy as his breath hitched.
you got off his lap and his eyes widened, disbelieving that you were actually being serious as he confusedly watched you pull the red lace from your corset, tossing the rest of it somewhere and moving further on the bed with your knees.
“sit up on the headboard.”
megumi dumbly blinked.
“do it or i’m putting my clothes back on and going downstairs—”
he shot up and propped his shoulders and head up on the metal frame, you coming around and swinging a leg back over him as his mind went into a fucking frenzy over the way you were acting, too in his thoughts to notice that you had tied his wrists to the metal bars with your lace, eliminating his privilege of putting his hands on you.
you scooched back down and mushed his cheeks up with your fingers, pecking his puckered up lips and smiling innocently.
“be good.”
“baby— fuck!—”
you shoved his cock back inside you and he choked, you picking up your previous brutal pace as he heaved and tugged at the lace in a horny sweat, never in his life seeing you like this as his skin physically itched and burned to touch you with every bounce of your pussy on his length, your cunt so warm as it strangled the life out of his dick and milked it, your tits bouncing in his face and the view of your ricocheting ass a straight up torment to him as he continued to pull frustratedly on the lace.
“let me touch you baby please— hah!—”
“nope.”
“please pretty i’m so sorry i’m sorry for everything that i did!”
his body trembled as you pistoned down on his cock, hiccups coming from his throat as his hips pathetically lifted from the mattress to compensate for not being able to feel you up, overstimulated tears at the corners of his eyes.
you whimpered and licked your lips delightfully at how good he felt and how he was whining for you, making him pay back for everything he did and said tonight as you leaned down and licked a long stripe up his chest to the side of his neck.
“holy shit—” heave “holy shit—”
you sat up on your knees and let his dick fall out again, megumi’s eyes bulging open and jaw dropping at the sudden stop.
“put it back in.” he panted. “i beg you please put it back in—”
“hmmm… i don’t know…” you rubbed your pussy over his cock, noises sticky and squelchy as you pondered. “i think i wanna stay just like this!”
you leaned down and gave him a wet kiss on his cheek.
“baby listen to me.” he looked at you desperately as you pulled away. “i love you i love you please untie me—”
“you love me?” you grinned.
“more than anything—”
“didn’t seem like it all those times you hung out with hana!” you shook your head disappointedly. “why don’t you keep hanging out with her and talking about her and throwing it in my face yeah? maybe ask her to get you off.”
“n—no baby i’m sorry i don’t know why i did that—”
“and since you like hanging out with her so much, i’ll go and hang out with ino.”
he stilled.
“huh?”
megumi’s chest picked up speed as he roughly tugged at the lace, your words already riling him up with the mere mention of you with somebody else.
“mhm! maybe i should slide my pussy over his dick just like this—”
“the fuck you just say to me?”
“—and let ino fuck me and bite me and suck my tits—
megumi yanked and the lace snapped in two, tackling you and throwing you face down on the bed as he hauled your ass up and smacked it hard, receiving a yelp from you.
“is that what you want?” he plunged his dick inside of you and you cried out, going off balance from trying to lift yourself with your hands and dropping back down by the force. “you wanna be a slut and replace me?”
he grabbed a piece of the torn up lace and joined your wrists behind your back— hastily tying them together and securing it roughly, hooking his hands on the underside of your elbows and wrenching you up.
“gumi!—”
“you gonna do that to me baby?” he hammered his pelvis against the fat of your ass while holding you up at an arch, the bend giving megumi the leverage to absolutely demolish your insides while he fucked you. “you gonna break my heart like that?”
“no!” you sputtered, high pitched whimpers from you filling his ears. “i would never!—”
“uhuh, sure.” he panted, letting go and throwing you down on the sheets below to grip your hips— slamming them back to meet his in such a brutal pace that tears of ecstasy were streaming down your face, your cute pitchy moans mixed with your hiccups and sobs thrilling him sickeningly at the moment, for megumi was too far gone and in a state of animalistic and scary need for you, wanting you to remember that you’d always be his.
“you’d never yet i find you all alone with another man?”
“gumi i’m sorry!” you hiccuped. “i’m so s—sorry—”
megumi reached over and meanly pinched your wet cheek.
“i don’t wanna fucking hear it.”
he looped his fingers through the lace and pulled you up again, wrapping one arm over your shoulders under your chin and the other over your tummy as he enveloped you, dick splitting you open so fucking good that drool seeped from the corner of your mouth— megumi’s tongue coming out to lick it up alongside your tears and you squirming and pouting as he did.
“i bet ino wants to play with your pretty little pussy like this huh?” he spoke softly in your face, eyes crazed and wild as you jerked up and down. “i bet every single fucking guy at this stupid party wants to play with what’s mine right? and you’d let ‘em? you’d do that to me baby?”
you sniffled and whined. “no gumi!— hic!— i love you i wouldn’t—”
“i’d kill for you baby…” he whispered in your ear, nose nuzzled in your hair as your breath hitched.
“so be careful who you talk to yeah?”
megumi threw you back down and broke the lace again with two hands, your arms springing apart freely as he flipped you on your back and spread your pretty thighs, cock lining up, thrusting in and drilling as he hovered over you and kissed you so sloppily— majority of it the sloshing of tongues as you moaned into each other’s mouths and made a wet drooly mess.
“gumi— can i— pant— can i cum please please—”
he shivered at your begging as he trailed his lips to your cheek and gave you a kiss, hips rapid and curt as he felt his cock on the brink of spilling.
“you wanna cum on my dick?”
you licked your lips. “mhm! please.”
so sweet.
“yeah?”
“uh huh—”
“cum— hah— all over my dick baby s’okay—”
“guummiiii!—”
your orgasms flooded through both of your bodies like a white flash, you as a pair completely fucked out and sweaty and abused as megumi’s cum drained into your pussy, hot and droopy as his hips continued to absentmindedly rut his cum back inside of you while you were both borderline checked out with pink cheeks and dewy skin.
megumi was the first to come down from his high, his fogged half lidded gaze looking at your pretty face and pressing multiple small kisses along one side of your cheek, coaxing your little mind to come back from la la land as you stirred and whimpered.
“you okay?” he whispered, and you weakly nodded, sending him a cute tired smile.
“i think—” he sat up and moved a few strands of your hair away from your eyes, mumbling. “i think i was too rough baby i’m sorry…”
“what you just said was a sin.” you spoke flatly and he chuckled, you shifting to curl into his side and wrapping your arms around him, face hiding in his chest.
“…are you mad at me.”
his eyebrows pinched, a soothing hand running up and down your back. “no, never.”
megumi sighed deeply and stared up at the ceiling. “that should be my question to you…”
you lifted your face from his chest and looked at him. “why would i be mad at you gumi?”
“for everything.” he mumbled. “everything i did.”
you giggled, his heart instantly flooding with warmth at the sound as he clutched you tighter.
“but you didn’t do anything baby.” you kissed his collarbone. “everything you did i would’ve done exactly the same and maybe even worse.”
you played with the hems of your knee high socks. “but i shouldn’t have gone with ino gumi i’m really sorry... i genuinely just thought he wanted to catch up as friends… not that he— you know. i didn’t even know that until today.”
and megumi already knew it was exactly just that— your precious kind self trusting ino with everything you had, trusting a friend, that you weren’t considering any of the logistics that could consider a request like his shady.
but he was still so bothered in that moment. and he regrettably couldn’t help it, usually being able to swallow jealous tendencies whenever they appeared, but completely losing it seeing as you were so close to being disrespected like that.
and one issue after another and another made him shamefully insane for a little.
“no baby i know you don’t have to explain.” he answered gently. “i acted like a fucking psychopath today man.. i can’t tell you how sorry i am.”
“oh absolutely not.” you scoffed. “your reactions were so justifiable gumi…”
you looked at him. “you were frustrated and so was i. it was only natural for us to start having a fucking meltdown… but we had it together! right?”
megumi laughed a little and nodded, pulling back to look at you as you grinned.
“we just matched each others freak is all.”
how you managed to make every sour situation better and funny no matter the circumstance, was one of the millions amongst other things megumi loved most about you.
“i’m also trying to say that you don’t have to worry so much about me gumi…” you mentioned. “i can defend myself if i need to okay? i love to hit a man that deserves it.”
he playfully rolled his eyes and smiled softly at you, nodding and accepting your words but them having absolutely no effect, as he was going to continue to worry over you until his very death bed and beyond— that being a promise.
because from the second that you blessedly agreed to be his two years ago, megumi’s job was to worry about you and take care of you, to love you as he silently promised to you over and over again that he would try his hardest to keep you happy— happy with the life that he has given you as your man, and happy with him so that you’d keep wanting forever with him like he so badly wanted with you.
hana was nowhere to be found after you and megumi went back downstairs— not that either of you cared in the slightest as you gathered up your tiki mugs, bid your best friend and yuji goodbye and left the party as fast as you could, eager to get to his apartment and snuggle up under the covers with the warmth of each other’s bodies gently lulling you both to sleep, something megumi had been looking forward to all night and content once he finally got his wish.
and even after the roller coaster of events that happened at the halloween party, the both of you were happy and healthy and laughing about what had happened a couple of days later— you over at his apartment in bed with him during a rainy lazy november day, pajamas and fuzzy socks still on even though it was well past morning already, and with the smell of cookies baking in the oven from the recipe you had made together just for fun to partake in fall activities for the month, the two little pumpkins you had carved silly faces in earlier today with megumi sitting side by side cutely on his dining room table and ‘in love’.
“i say we run down the street right now in our pj’s.”
“baby it’s pouring outside.”
“so?” you pouted, crossing your arms as you sat there straddling his lap. “and then we can kiss in the rain!”
he smiled softly. “you’ll get sick though.”
“and so will you so then we can be sick together in your bed and have sick sex how about that—”
megumi threw his head back and laughed, the crinkle in his eye one you adored so much as you giggled alongside him and traced absentminded figures on his chest, his hands squeezing and caressing over your thighs lovingly.
“your audition is next week right.” he murmured. “for the cheer team.”
“mhm!” you nodded sweetly. “i’m sick to my stomach.”
he snorted, eyes flickering to yours amusedly. “you really shouldn’t be baby. it seems like they really want you and your best friend in.”
“yeah but—” you paused. “what if when i get there and they see me look like a fucking idiot they change their minds? or i talk their ears off and i get banned? or what if i ruin—”
“you’re not gonna get banned.” he chuckled. “just do your best okay… and i already know you will. trust me.”
you grinned, leaning down and peppering little kisses all over his rosy flushed face.
“you’re so niiiceeee gumi my goodness!”
he playfully rolled his eyes, the little smile on his face unwavering as he looked at you.
at his future.
“close your eyes.”
you stopped. “huh?”
“close your eyes.” he squeezed your thighs reassuringly. “i have a present.”
you gasped. “really?! holy fuck wait okay—” you covered your eyes with your hands. “okay okay i’m ready.”
you heard the opening and closing of a drawer, giddy and excited on his lap as he shuffled through a few things that you weren’t sure of.
“can i open nooww?”
he laughed a little. “hold on baby.”
“maaann—”
“okay now you can—”
you ripped your hands away from your face and you froze.
megumi had the prettiest black ring you had ever seen in your life in between his thumb and index, shiny and dainty as it had a cute black little heart in the middle to complete the piece, holding it out for you with flustered cheeks as he looked to the side.
“gumi…”
“it’s a promise ring.” he peered up at you. “do you like it.”
“a—” your eyes snapped to his. “a promise ring?”
he took your left hand that was on his chest and raised it, gently sliding the ring over your ring finger as you sat there in utter shock, him letting go and you slowly retracting your arm with your gaze locked on the stunning jewelry piece.
megumi had the ring hidden for months and dumbed around looking for the right time to give it to you… a time that was perfect and meaningful and intimate as he took it everywhere he went for that time— hidden in the crevices of his duffel bag during practice, stuffed in the pockets of his jackets or sweaters, and even the day of the party, his fingers playing and running along the smooth little heart while you had gone to change into your costume in his room, embarrassingly afraid and nervous over what you’d say even though he knew he didn’t need to be.
“i—” he struggled, you looking at him so sweetly and patiently as he tried to get his thoughts together.
“remember… when we went on that trip to the mountains with my dad… the car ride coming back?”
you quickly nodded. “i do.”
“and when you said that… you thought about us married.”
you blushed furiously and you nodded again, a silly shy smile growing.
“i was serious when i said i did too.” he stared up at you sincerely.
your eyes softened, your fingers lightly grazing over the ring, feeling it.
“i want a life with you..” he mumbled. “i want you to know and remember that… that i love you and i promise you soon it’ll happen. and on days where you’re not happy with me that i’d do anything for you so we can fix it.”
megumi never messed around when it came to you, and you were the one thing he never wanted to lose or let go.
he could live without and lose his car, his apartment, his things his fucking career and he still wouldn’t give a shit as long as your pretty face and smile was still by his side through it all— for you were the thing he absolutely couldn’t live without and would rather swim in boiling scalding water than experience it happen first hand.
megumi softly pinched your cheek. “i want you in my life forever pretty baby.”
your lip wobbled. “you do?”
he nodded, reaching into the collar of his hoodie and tugging out a silver chain with a black ring looped through, his heart beating through the roof as he held it up for you to see.
“i got a chain for it so i’d still be able to wear it under my uniform on the field.”
oh how you fucking melted at that, thinking over how megumi was so dedicated, so committed to the things that mattered most to him, and you couldn’t believe still sometimes even after being with him for two years and him always making sure you knew— that you were one of those things.
and you loved him.. so fucking much as you sniffled and covered your face, leaning forward to lay on his chest as megumi’s eyes softened and arms came to wrap around your body.
“i’m so happy i met you gumi.” you whispered in between your sobs, those words alone sending a spark of emotion through his body, feeling his eyes oddly and ever so slightly prickle.
“i’m so happy i met you baby..” he murmured, hand lifting to pat and smooth over the back of your head. “don’t cry..”
you sniffled and wiped your eyes, feeling so warm and safe under megumi’s arms as he kissed your wet cheeks and carded your hair away from your face, silently so loving as you settled down.
“i’m always happy with you gumi okay…” you spoke. “i’m never not happy. ever. and i’m so fucking thankful every single day that you love me as much as i love you and that i get to keep you.”
he breathed out a little laugh through his nose as you sat up, his glimmering lovesick eyes on you, you smiling.
“i want you in my life forever too baby.” you murmured, playing with the chain on his neck and fiddling with his ring. “i always have.”
megumi smiled, the feeling of joy and love so potent in his chest that he didn’t think a feeling so strong like that even existed or was supposed to happen to him.
but you made it happen. you never failed to make it happen.
his happiness.
“i wanna have your babies.”
megumi choked at your sudden comment, arm flying up to cover his coughs with the crook of his elbow as you giggled uncontrollably at his reaction.
“what?! it’s easy we just do what we already do now except i skip a month on my pill and you cum twice in me instead of once—”
“baby!—”
“i’m kidding!” you snickered over the furious blush on his cheeks, tapping his pinky nose. “i’m kidding i need to be a cheerleader first and then you can impregnate me because i know you want that so bad—”
“oh my god—”
“—and maybe you should cum inside three times actually because third times the charm and i feel like—”
megumi suddenly flipped your positions and tackled you down, lifting your top to reveal your tummy before digging his fingers into your sides and tickling you all over, you thrashing and gasping for air as you laughed loudly and tried to get away from him, him stuffing his face in your neck and nibbling obnoxiously.
“i’m sorry! please stop! gumi— eeekkk!”
“no.”
“i’ll do— i’ll do anything!—”
“no.”
you giggled and gasped. “gummmiiii!—”
days like this with you were megumi’s greatest days.
he didn’t need anything else. just you and your giggles and your smiles, your sweetness and your talkativeness as you brightened up his life in every single aspect, coated all of its tribulations with sunshine and warmth as you proved to him everyday still how beautiful life could be if he just let it.
and as ludicrous as the party was with bamboo shots and cheerleaders, tiki bars and shitfaced players and certain individuals literally trying to pull you both apart… you still loved it. an experience you were glad that you shared with together and barely had to make the effort to talk about and fix because there was nothing to fix.
you and megumi always understood each other, two souls on the same wavelength that ebbed and flowed in the same direction and in the same form always— a privilege that you never once clashed against each other so much so that it destroyed the natural flow of your currents.
because this sea was much different than the dark and torturous one he was in by himself all those years— the one he was in before he met you.
this one was sparkling and crystal blue, luke warm to the touch and fun as he didn’t mind the saltiness of it getting into his eyes, because somehow it never burned when it did, resolving itself quickly and gently and the waves themselves never making him feel like he couldn’t breathe but alive instead, and all while swimming and nurturing it kindly with you as he made sure that you never got tired or unhappy with it— never got tired or unhappy with him.
and all of that was a definite promise— resembled in the ring that sat pretty on your finger.
to look after you. to support you. to love you.
to make you happy.
always.

Don't Hide~
Pt. 2
🍓Baby, you fucking know you can. My little MC is exactly like this, so thank you soooo much for allowing me to write her vicariously through this ask. I have sooo much fun with brat taming, you have no idea, I should write it wayyyyy more. Anyway, I really tried not to let my favoritism for Caleb show here, but he still has more than the other two. Sue me, I love my man.
TW: Intense eye contact in Caleb's; Brat taming; cat ears mentioned but not relevant in Sylus' part; Sylus is crazy big; teasing; softcore otherwise; editing/grammar errors (i am one college student)
Info: Sylus, Zayne, Caleb x Reader (Separate); NSFW
Word Count(s): Zayne (1.2k); Sylus (1.2k); Caleb (1.5k)

ZAYNE
You loved to just push, didn't you? It was an annoyingly charming part of you, one that Zayne just adored in most situations. Playful poking and prodding was part of your daily routine, something he expected and honestly needed from you. If you weren't causing some kind of problem for him, you weren't doing well. He would rather you annoy him than see you sad and quiet.
Still, you really could get under his skin when you tried. Bonuses of knowing each other so well, he guessed. Even framing it like a positive was hard when you were trying your very best to get him to react.
Having your arms wrapped around him was a more than welcome experience in most cases. He loved it when you were so openly affectionate in public; it made him feel better about how badly he wanted to hold you, too. What he was not a fan of was the way your sneaky little hands seemed to be creeping lower and lower down his back. It was cute, at first. Easily mistaken as a comforting gesture when your fingers drew themselves back up after dipping just a little lower.
Yet, they didn't stop dipping a little lower. Each stroke got longer, went further down his back, until your fingers were dancing along the hem of his pants. If that weren't bad enough, you were doing it in front of a colleague of yours. Tara, you'd excitedly introduced. Chirping along happily together like two birds of a feather, like you weren't pushing your luck with each passing second. You knew that, though, didn't you?
He shoots you the subtlest look when your hand hovers over his behind, a warning. One, you do not heed, clamping your hand down and pinching his cheek with a Cheshire grin. And he squeaks, despite expecting it, the feeling still takes him off guard. Your grin only widens, especially when Tara blinks in surprise.
"Are you okay, Mr. Li?" She asks, befuddled at how such a stoic man could make such a noise.
He clears his throat, glancing at you, less subtly, "Fine. We should be going, though."
"Aww," you and Tara pout at the same time, though yours is far less genuine than hers.
"Well, it was nice to see you. Have fun with the rest of your day!" She waves, skipping away, oblivious to the tension between you.
Zayne lets out a deep and heavy breath, annoyance leaving him all at once. His eyes zero in on your smirking face, expression even despite the intent clouding his green eyes. He tugs your hand away, wrapping it around his waist in a firm grip so you don't do the same thing again.
"You can't behave for a second, can you?" He sighs.
Another self-satisfied smirk, "It's not my fault you have such a cute butt! It's just begging me to grab it."
He hums, pulling you along with him without another word. He can feel the excitement rolling off you in waves, practically leaping and bounding at his side to get home. How obnoxiously adorable. Your ability to manipulate him into giving you what you want was admirable; he'll give you that. Besides, it's not as though he'd be the one feeling embarrassed by the end of the night, so he'd let you have your little victories.
--
He'd had you on your knees before the front door could even fully close. Shaky hands struggling with his belt, fumbling futilely a few times before finally wriggling it out enough to unzip his pants and slide his member out. It bobs uselessly in front of your mouth, begging for some semblance of friction. Naturally, as if magnetically attracted, you lean forward to take him into your mouth.
A firm hand stops you before you can, making your face scrunch up in confusion, fluttering up to his. The intensity in his eyes is enough to burn you up from the inside, heated and full of intent. You look away quickly, trying to ignore the heat searing beneath your skin. He doesn't allow you to run, gripping your chin and bringing your eyes back to him.
"Use your hands," He commands, "and look at me. Understood."
You nod, letting out a shaky breath. Not good enough.
"Words."
You swallow, "Yes, Zayne."
The grip on your chin softens, stroking the skin there as if apologizing for the roughness, "Good."
Your shaky hands come up, spitting on them for lubricant, then carefully wrap around his cock. Gentle, easy, practiced. You know what he likes, slow and easy. You watch the way your hands glide along his shaft, smiling when the sticky pre-cum coats your fingers. So pretty.
He clears his throat, and you correct your mistake like you've been Pavloved. Looking up at his flushed face, chest heaving, and body, eyes watching your every move. Nervousness tends to build up in your chest when he looks at you like that. No walls or hidden meaning, just sheer desire. You want to hide away from it, but you know he won't let you. All you can do is swallow the ever-growing lump in your throat and let your face burn hotter and hotter.
You watch his Adam's apple bob in his throat, rubbing your thighs together to alleviate some of the need between your legs. It's useless, as expected, and only serves to make you feel more pathetic. You don't stop, though, obediently tugging his member at an even pace. His breath grows more shaky with each stroke, mouth slightly ajar and puffing the hot air out unevenly. Much prettier.
His fingers trace along your chin, down the sensitive column of your neck, and back up again. Mirroring your movements from earlier, giving you a taste of your own medicine. It makes you shy away a little, flinching back when they dip between your collarbones. He spreads them out as he comes back up, pausing in the center of your throat and giving the smallest press, prompting you to swallow against them. He shudders when you do, having to use the door to keep himself upright.
He was close, so close. It made you want to speed up, but you don't. Not unless he tells you to.
"Are you sorry?" He suddenly asks, low and gravely, like it was hard to get out in the first place.
You bite your lip, shrinking into yourself as you mumble, "'m sorry..."
"Clearly," he commands, "or else I'll make you stop right now."
You jolt, shaking your head adamantly, "I-I'm sorry. I am! I promise, please?"
He scoffs a laugh, "Brat... open your mouth, now."
You comply, sticking your tongue out, and within a few moments, he's spurting out onto it. You lap up his release obediently, never breaking eye contact, no matter how much it drives you insane. The hand on your chin comes up to pet your hair, a silent praise for your good work.
"Did you learn your lesson?" He asks lowly, scratching your scalp gently.
You nod, proud to please. It's cute. Really cute. But he's not quite satisfied. With a low hum, he helps you off your knees, nudging you through the house on a straight path to the bedroom.
"Why don't we test that theory, then?" He whispers, a promise that you were in for a long night of behavioral correction.
SYLUS
Sylus was a tease at heart, always pushing your buttons and getting on your nerves with little to no effort at all. He'd admitted to you on more than one occasion that he found your feisty reactions positively adorable. You were his little kitten, after all, what kind of man would he be if he didn't get you swatting your claws at him?
However, teasing him was a difficult endeavor. One that you'd become an expert in. See, you couldn't just whisper sweet nothings into his ear or draw your hands along him sensually. He didn't react to that; he found it more funny than alluring. Calling you needy, which you weren't. No, if you wanted to get something out of him you had to be smarter than just sheer sex appeal.
You had to be cute.
Not so cute that you came off as childish and stupid, he would catch on to things too fast and ruin your fun. Just cute enough that it would get his heart racing, make him pause, and take a second to admire you. When he did that, you knew you got what you wanted.
Which is why you were walking hand in hand with him now, swinging your arm just slightly between your bodies. You were in some expensive shopping district, looking around for something to wear for a mission you were assigned to. He'd insisted on buying you a dress when you'd mentioned it offhand. Who were you to deny him the privilege of seeing you spin around in glittering dresses like a teenager picking out a prom dress?
You'd gotten a bit... off track, though. Purposefully, of course, not that he needed to know that. Excitedly bounding from shop window to shop window, gazing in at the silly souvenirs and cute little stuffed animals like a kid on Christmas. Sylus allowed you to tug him around, a soft smile on his face as you rambled about how cute that little teddy bear is, then in the same breath refused to let him buy it for you.
You stopped short when you came across a little standee outside of a costume shop, laughing at its contents. Cat ears of various types hung on the little turnstile, the perfect killer. You bounded up to it, scanning across the different types before plucking two off the rack. You turn back to Sylus then, a giddy smile as you show him your little treasure, lifting it up with pride.
He leans down without another word, letting you set the white pair on his head. His eyes softening when you clap your hands. You know you've got him right where you want him. You just needed the finishing blow. You set the second pair on your head, pointing your chin to the sky like a proud lion.
He smirks at the sight, petting your head like he would a regular cat, "Aren't you cute?"
You bite your lip, going in for the throat, "Now I really am your kitten, huh?"
He pauses, visibly processing your words and realizing just what you were up to. A scoff tumbles out of his mouth, eyes rolling from the sheer idiocy. He'd fallen for your cutesy little antics, again, just like he always did. Steady fingers grip your chin, forcing you to keep your eyes settled on him.
"I wasn't aware she was so prone to misbehavior. Tell me, are you looking for punishment, kitten?" He purrs lowly.
Mission successful, "I'dunno what you mean, Sy..."
--
Riding Sylus always felt impossible thanks to his incredible size. You always managed to fit it, but it was more than just a little fight. This is what you asked for, though. Your little cry for attention earlier rewarded with a brand new pair of cat ears, and Sylus’ lazy smirk as you struggled to adjust to him.
Your hands weakly kneaded at his chest, trying to ground yourself from the intensity of the stretch. He merely watched you, red eyes drawing across your figure slow and steady, pleased to have you on display for him. His calloused hands rested at your waist, thumbing over the skin there in approval as you settled down.
It was impossible to hide from him like this, making the burning sensation across your body all the more apparent. You just couldn’t help but be embarrassed at the way he seemed to drink you in, savoring you with every sense at his disposal. You were sure he had a secret sixth one made just to relish in your humiliation. Yet, he does not say a word to shame you or make you feel less than. Just watches and appreciates you as you are.
Somehow, that was worse than degradation, melting your mind to a mushy pile of nervousness.
Still, you’d practically begged for this, and as always Sylus had given it to you as you wished. You wouldn’t want to disappoint both of you, so you took a deep breath and began rolling your hips. Slow little circles at first. Unsure, but gradually building as you grew more comfortable in your place on top of him.
Each movement set your nerves alight, sending shocks of pleasure across each inch of your skin. The heat building in your core, spanning across every nook and cranny of your body, wrapping you in a blanket of warm pleasure. Sylus seems to track it with his eyes, drawing up from the sensual roll of your hips, to the way your muscles tense, across your bouncing tits, and landing on your scrunched up little face.
You could practically hear him purring — no, he was purring. A low grumble shaking his chest, traveling through your trembling fingertips and sending the signals directly to the heat between your legs. To be admired so much was just too much for you to handle right now.
You lean over him, tucking your face into his shoulder. It’s a weak attempt to hide at best, not that you’d be able to hide no matter what you did, but you make it all too easy for him to pull you up with a gentleness that seemed too loving for the moment. All too Sylus as he eased your pouting visage back into his line of sight.
“Running away already?” He coos, fingers massaging your neck as if placating you.
You’re far too embarrassed to argue with him, so you just nod, “It’s too much.”
He hums, mocking thought as he takes in your weak excuses. You’re far too cute for him to know what to do with, but he would figure it out, “Do you need my help, kitten?”
In the second of clarity you have, you debate telling him no. Yet, he twitches inside of you when you open your eyes to take in his all consuming stare, and the thought evaporates from your mind. You do need his help, very badly. You’ll probably burn alive between the scorching pleasure and his fiery gaze without him there to placate the flames.
You give him a weak little teary eyed nod, and he eases your face back into his shoulder. He was always so accommodating with you, so gentle and loving that it made your stomach tie into knots. Only forgetting the feeling when he helped to work you along his length, humming sweet words of praise into your ears, letting you hide away from him all you wanted. That’s what you wanted after all, right?
CALEB
Teasing Caleb was an art form that only you had mastered. You would think that after knowing someone for so long, it would be easy to rile them up. Yet, Caleb was the most controlled man you had ever met when it came to handling your light-hearted jabs. Part of it was thanks to how well he knew you, but the other part was simply because he was good at ignoring his own feelings. He could push and push and push them down to the depths of his mind until they were practically non-existent, and your teasing was no different.
The most you'd get for your efforts was a smirk, maybe a ruffle of your hair as he scolds you, and if you were really annoying, he would chase you around the house and tickle you for your crimes. Rarely was it anything more intense than that.
Rarely. Not never.
There was one way to get Caleb hot and bothered enough to do something, and that was your favorite game of all time: Look, don't touch. It was fun to see just how far you could get, doing all his favorite things with an air of innocence, just to see how long it would take to get him to crack.
Your personal favorite method of torture was to find a shirt of his - dirty, preferably - slide it on and walk around the house with nothing but it and a lacy pair of red panties. (His favorite, judging from how often they go missing from the laundry.) It's a long game you have to play, because winning against Caleb's disciplined ability to pretend was always a long game. Luckily, you were just about the one weakness in his mental fortitude.
You start in the morning before he leaves for work, or else it won't work. If he's at home all day, he'll just take care of it without thought. You walk out of the room, and his eyes catch on your legs. They rake over the exposed skin like trying to burn it into his memory, as if he hadn't done that a million times before. Then, like clockwork, he realizes what he's doing and tries to look anywhere but you as you waltz around. Knowing he has a responsibility that he can't skimp on, even for you, keeps him stiff and robotic as you kiss him goodbye.
Then, step two kicks in: text him frequently. Keeping yourself at the forefront of his mind (which you always are, mind you) and letting him know you're thinking of him makes him squirm in a way that's unbefitting of a soldier. He can't stop himself from thinking about your legs, the way his shirt rested against your body, and what was beneath it. Waiting, begging him to get a peek as you stretched your arms over your head. His eye twitches when you send him yet another suspiciously worded text - never incriminating, but always implicative.
Then, when his shift is nearly over, when you spent your whole day playing coy, you reach the final phase of your plan. You send pictures. Nothing explicit. That would ruin the fun of it all. Just cute, mundane tasks. A downward angle of you cooking dinner, reading a book on his bed, or maybe just a picture of a movie you're watching with your bare legs in view. All visual reminders of what he left at home, all reminders of why he needs to get back now.
--
Normally, Caleb prefers you to tell him what you like in bed. He's soft, attentive, a little sloppy, but entirely obsessed with your pleasure. It's not as though he's neglecting that part of himself, quite the opposite, actually. You were the one who had made it abundantly clear that you wanted- needed him to put you in your place. He knows your little games, he knows you like no other person on the planet - in the galaxy, hell, the entire universe.
So, of course, he knew you wanted him to fold you in half and show you what happens to misbehaving, teasing little pipsqueaks like yourself for all your efforts. Who was he to deny you of what you'd been begging for all day? Wouldn't that make him a bad Caleb? It almost means that the way he makes you look at him, knowing full well that the eye contact sends you into a flurry of embarrassment. He's just so... intense, in every sense of the word, especially when he's having sex with you.
One leg bent up to your head, the other wrapped around his waist, and two strong arms boxing your head had you surrounded. Chest to chest, buried to the hilt, there was no escaping the little prison of pleasure Caleb had built for you. Your reward equaled your punishment, and you wished you could complain, but you knew your voice would catch in your throat and Caleb would tease you for it. You had no choice but to sit there and look up at him, hoping he'd be a little nicer than you were to him today.
His eyes are hot as they trace along the planes of your face, eating up the sight like his last meal on earth. The subtle shift in his expression as you squeeze around him, feeling the intensity of his gaze far more deeply than you'd ever admit out loud. His eyebrows twitch up in surprise, before a lazy smirk crawls over his face, leaning down to kiss along the apple of your cheek to the shell of your ear.
"Y'know," He starts in a low drawl, sending your head spinning, "If you want me to take care of you, you can just ask."
You shake your head, though there isn't a real purpose for it. You're just a little too flustered to think right when he's got you like this. His dominance really is something all-consuming, and it reminds you why you don't tease him like this often. You would be a dead man if you had to put up with his relentlessness every time you had sex.
"No?" He asks, as if he's confused, but the condescension in his voice gives him away.
He adjusts himself slightly, rubbing against your walls just enough to get you to tremble a little. Then, all at once, he pulls himself out to the tip and pushes his way back inside in a fluid motion, "You don't want me to do that? Then tell me what you need, won't you?"
You whimper, tossing your arms on your face like that might help you here. Nearly forgetting how easily he overpowers you in your hazy headspace until he seamlessly pulls your hands over your head, interlacing your fingers as if they belonged together.
"No, no, no. None of that, you gotta look at me, 'kay?" He hums so sickeningly sweet it makes you want to swing at him.
A whine tears through your throat, tossing your head to the side to bury into his arm. Defiant and bratty to the end, as always. He huffs out a laugh that's all too affectionate for how annoying he was being, then chases your face with his own. You feel the warm press of his sweat-slicked forehead against yours, heated breath fanning over your face. You don't budge, not even when he nudges your nose with his own as encouragement.
He's reaching the end of his limited patience; you can feel it in the way his fingers tremble around your wrists. He could hold back all day when you weren't physically near him, but he was inside you for god's sake. Any man - well trained soldier or not - would collapse under the extreme pressure of a nice warm pussy. Your nice warm pussy was simply one of the greatest weaknesses he had, second only to your oh so pretty eyes he was being deprived of right now.
"Pips," He whines, voice uncharacteristically squeaky, "Lemme see your pretty eyes, yeah?"
You curl your hands into tight fists, trying and failing to fight him off one last time. A little voice in your mind reminds you of how mean you were to him today. Listen to his voice, he needs you just as bad as you need him. It's okay to give in, Caleb will take care of everything, it whispers so sweetly. You can't refuse its logic, not when it seems so totally right as he twitches inside you again.
You slowly peel your eyes open, nearly jumping at the way he's staring so intently at you. Brows worried, lip caught between his teeth, and pretty purple eyes darting across your face. You expect some kind of comment from him, some words of praise or thanks, but all you get is his hips pulling back and slamming back into you. It gets your toes curling instantaneously, a moan ripping from your vocal cords in surprise.
You shouldn't be, though. This is what you wanted. Caleb was just giving it to you. He would always give it to you.

❤️💙
Smoke stood there yelling trying to calm down the group of hysterical night goers who now found themselves in an impossible situation. A situation that shouldn’t be a reality but let the old tales tell it, it was just as true.
And now your small group of survivors is finding that out.
The lively party under the moon light quickly taking a turn after unwanted guests arrived odd and full of smiles.
It started with that Mary woman who had flirted her way in. She was out of place here and maybe that’s why Stack seemed so intrigued. He never could turn down a mystery, your wild boy.
Now there was no way out that any of you could see just yet but you knew Smoke would think of something, he always did.
Pearl wailed in front of everybody, her body shaking uncontrollably as the other women rushed surrounding her, trying to give some comfort.
You seen Delta take that moment to approach Smoke who was deep in thought, closer to the front door than anyone else. That far away look on his face when he was racking his brain for a solution.
The realization that Stack had become a night creature, a vampire from the folklore of time immortal, from tales stretching across the world in different cultures, different languages was unfathomable. He had become whatever they were and it was settling into the group with dread.
But none more devastated than Smoke and you.
Now while Smoke was thinking of this with the rationality of surviving you just couldn’t accept this.
“Smoke what we gon’ do without Stack?” Delta tried to whisper. He was unsuccessful because you could still hear him even with the group of women between y’all.
You feel the room spinning again and you just need a moment. Hearing him speaking of Stack in that way had the air rushing from your lungs. No not Stack. You thought. Not like this.
You know Smoke said for everyone to stay together and away from the walls, the doors, the windows any part of the foundation but you just need a moment because you feel like you can’t fucking breathe.
Everyone is occupied when you slip away silent in your kitten heels you had choose for the night, your careful to not make noise with your form fitting dress that’s decorated with beadwork at the hem. All night the dress had swayed and shinned in the low lit speakeasy. You had danced all night your dress adding its own sound to the lively music with the heavy beadwork while switching between the strong arms of your boys during every song when the other wasn’t busy.
Stack danced with you and Smoke would just hold you and kinda sway as you danced on him. Ever the serious one.
You find yourself in the smaller back room that’s used for storage with a back entrance. Even though you needed a moment the small space was quickly becoming suffocating causing your grief and disbelief to swell within you. It choked you. Now you felt like you were standing out in the fields on a hottest summer Mississippi day. You felt like you were dying.
You quickly realized you were hyperventilating. You needed air.
Over your deep breathing you hear softly yet unmistakably beyond the door “It’s ok baby”. Your blood goes cold and your body freezes.
“Stack?” You question softly as your eyes start to water while staring straight ahead of you.
“Yea, it’s me baby” He says in his familiar thick accent.
“Ho-how?” You stutter in disbelief. How’d he know you were back here? Out of everyone it could have been how’d he know it was you? Was he alone? So many questions ran through your head without ever making it to your lips.
“Baby I knew it was you. Don’t cry babygirl just open the door fo’ me” He coo’s softly.
“I-I can’t” you replied sounding even unconvinced to your own ears. It feels wrong to deny him.
“Why? Baby I don’t wanna be out here no more all alone. let me in so I can get away from these crazy crackers” He mutters a little bit impatiently. That bit wasn’t your Stack. Stack out of the both of them always was patient with you, it was almost sickening how he caved for you.
His patience’s with you gave people the false hood of a saint when his reality was he could flip in a moment. Just like Smokes quietness and how gentle he was with you gave people a false impression of calm man. They were both ticking time bombs on any given day, at any moment.
“And it’s really you Stack?” You ask again begging your mind to believe what your heart does. That he’s still in there somewhere.
It’s quiet for a moment before he's able to muster an almost forced reply. “Of course-“
“The hell you doing?” You hear barked behind you in that deep Mississippi drawl.
It’s not even seconds later when you feel his presence behind you and his large hand gripping your arm yanking you slightly back.
“It’s Stack! We have to help him! Let him in! Please Smoke!” You beg facing the other half of your heart, staring up into Smokes eyes. You seen the anger and the hurt swirling in the deep brown.
“It ain’t him!” He yells down at you as he towers above you. His handsome face menacing as always.
You’re not sure if everyone had come back with Smoke or if they’re just getting there but you feel everyone’s eyes on you. You know they must think you crazy. You seen what everyone else outside the speakeasy did to eachother yet here you are begging for Smoke to find a way to save Stack, bring him back to you.
“Oh come on now no fighting with our babygirl, just open up fo’ me twin” Stack taunts from the other side of the door.
The sound of his voice has you staring at the door with your conviction growing before Smoke is pulling your attention back to him.
“Aye. Hey baby look at me that’s not Stack. Not no more” He tries again with concern flickering in his eyes. He’s not sure what will happen if he can’t get you to accept it. His stomach turns with the thoughts of all the possibilities. He can’t loose you too. Not now not never.
“Please! Please I can’t-I can’t leave him out there!! He’s not safe” You begged staring up at him. Your eyes pleading with him to understand.
But that flicker of concern is quickly extinguished by the anger that replaces it in his brown eyes. He’s shaking you as he turns you to face him. He needs you to understand.
He yells your name full of anger. “You’re not safe if you let him in! He’ll kill you and everyone else in this fucking place!” He roars at you.
It’s starting to dawn on Smoke he may have to take more precautions if you don’t show him you’ve accepted what has happened to Stack.
You’re not sure why he allows it or if you’ve just caught him off guard but you yank your arm away and move near the door.
You can feel the tension in the room at your sudden proximity to the door. There’s a small opening in the door just about your eye level in your short heels. It’s about the length of your middle finger and horizontal.
“Stack pl-please baby please tell me it’s really you. You’re still my Stack, right?” You beg softly as you stare at Stack’s throat that you can see through the opening. Your fingers inching up to right below the hole.  He’s some how closer and your pointer finger ventures outside just barely to run along his full bottom lip. You shudder at the feel of his skin and how it’s something between hot and cool but not warm. It was odd and unsettling.
There’s a long pause and you can feel Smoke slowly move closer to you.
The silence is deafening to you as your heart starts to pick back up.
You see him shift a bit and when you crane you neck your able to see his eyes. You couldn’t see Stacks eyes before, not this close anyway since he changed.
They’re grey almost sliver and mostly lifeless, the brown warmth from them missing. But the guilt that flickers across them fans the embers of your hope.
What is said next is so soft you almost don’t hear it if it wasn’t for the view you also had of his lips with the way he’s tilted his eyes to look down at you.
But the rasp of his voice is unmistakable when he whispers “I love you”
Your heart can’t take it and even if his eyes are different your Stack is still in there somewhere. Your hand rushes the door handle.
It’s not Smokes booming voice behind you yelling “NO!” that startles you, it’s the earth shaking bang on the door in-front of you when you can do longer see Stack’s eyes that freezes your movements. Your hand inches from the handle.
The bang comes again as Stack yells “Let me in!”. Your body feels like you were just dumped into the Mississippi during winter. The cold realization settles over you. No he’s not your Stack, not fully at least.
Had he not banged on the door startling you, you would have surly opened it and thrown yourself into his arms. This was his way of showing you, your Stack that was still in there was trying to get through to you over the force that was consuming his body. He was trying to scare you.
The next bang is just as loud and aggressive and it causes you to stumble, falling back, your hands breaking the fall and scraping against the wooden floor as your bottom takes most of the impact.
Your heart is racing faster than you thought possible as you stare up wide eyed at the door Stack continues to bang against
“LET ME IN!”
You feel Smokes rough hands wrap around your waist pulling you up. His arms wrap around you as you snob in your hands. His full soft lips at your neck shhing and comforting you.
“It’s ok baby, gonna be ok, you safe with me” Smoke whispers softly against you.
They always had their different ways of dealing with you and it just worked having both of them. It wasn’t unusual for Smoke to be so soft with you but it didn’t happen as often as it did with Stack. Smoke was definitely your grumpy one, hardly if ever smiling if it wasn’t for you.
They both came in your life at the same time sweeping you off your feet without even trying, They both pulled you in in their own way true to their own personalities. When you realize that you couldn’t choose you decided you would walk away, and they refused to let you go. They decided it was only right to share you with boundaries in place over loosing you. It was by far nothing any of you had experienced before or would have been willing with anyone else. But here the three of you were years later. You never looked back.
“You and your man could be together and even better if you come out or let us in little lady” It’s another voice the room full of people hear, his voice, the white man who brought this hell to their little speakeasy paradise.
“Such a pretty pretty thing, we’d make you a queen” he continues with a groan almost like he was thinking of how your blood would taste or maybe even more sexual thoughts. Either way it caused you to shudder in Smokes arms pressing more into him.
You know you aren’t mistaken when you hear a familiar growl. It’s not him it’s Stack. The sound causes your stomach to turn a bit knowing that’s the part of him that’s still Stack. He was always so jealous it was a wonder he was able to handle the relationship of 3. Even turning didn’t seem to change that in him. It was a sound you heard many many times before. A man any man would be beat within an inch of his life for disrespecting Stack or Smoke by gazing upon you for a moment too long.
You’re not sure if you should be happy or devastated by the realization. Apart of you wants to be with him, be whatever he is now. Stay by his side like he had always been by hers.
But then you feel the warm squeeze of Smoke’s arms behind you and his hands turning you into his chest as the tears you didn’t notice start again keep falling.
Smoke’s large hands grab your face softly and his thumbs wipes the tears away. You couldn’t give up, not when you still had your Smoke. You had to fight for him even if that meant letting go of Stack or whatever Stack had become.
His face is close to yours making you hold eye contact.
“Shh baby m’ here, you safe. Just stay here with me” He says watching you, you nod finally giving him some relief you’re starting to accept this night and the twisted turn of fate. “If that was still Stack he’d want you safe baby. We both know that. He’d want you safe and with me.”
You shake your head in understanding but it doesn’t stop the tears. He leans in to softly kiss them away.
“We gon’ be good. Ight baby? I got you.” He promises holding your eyes in place with the conviction in his.
And you believe him. Not matter how impossible the situation seemed you believed him to always come through for you.
“Did y’all hear that? Where’s that coming from” Delta panics leaving the room to search for the source.
You steal a glance back and notice that Stack is still staring through the opening as Smoke pulls you away.
“I love you” you whisper back with a finale look before turing into Smoke’s embrace as he leads you safely away from the temptation of his twin.
Smoke knows that Stack is still in there somewhere but his bloodlust seems to be his main controller and  he can’t let you hold out on hope and get yourself killed or worse turned trying to prove your love. Trying to prove Stack is still in there.
So he keeps you close as possible as they enter the main room following the rest of the group.
“I love you Smoke” you say softly as you stop and look up at him.
Smoke knows you do just as much as you love Stack, you’ve never shown favorites. He loves you more than he’ll ever be able to say, you both know that. After tonight though he might have to work on being able to tell you just how much he does.
Smoke doesn’t care what happens tonight as long as he gets you safely away from this. Not only for himself but for Stack too.

i love that 🥺🥺🤕 cw; bau fem!reader, established relationship (hehe they're soooo in love), injury/blood descriptions, aaron being stubborn🙄, playful banter, fluff <333
The first SUV arrived back at the police department after apprehending the unsub. Morgan, JJ and Prentiss walked inside, pulling their vests off in sync.
You might have been mistaken, but their gazes immediately locked onto you as they removed their protective gear. Their stares were almost unsettling, as if they knew something you didn’t, and were waiting to see the rest unfold. Unease filled you from head to toe.
"Hey," you stacked a few files together, placing them down. "How'd it go? Did you get him?"
"Yeah, 'course we did." Morgan sauntered over, dropping his vest onto the table with a thud.
"Well," Emily added, a slight grimace on her face. "Not without putting up a relentless fight. It wasn't pretty, I'll tell you that."
A bad feeling formed in your gut. Even Spencer's attention was gained, his head lifting from his book.
"What do you me-"
Your words were interrupted by Aaron and JJ walking in. JJ, perfectly fine. Aaron on the other hand, was moving at a much slower speed than normal, definitely banged up with a fair amount of blood present on his face.
Your eyes widened in alarm, meeting him halfway.
"Oh my god, Aaron. Are you okay?" You immediately unstrapped his vest for him, tucking it under your arm. The lessening pressure seemed to help some, light tension lifting from his body.
Your hand raised to cup his jaw, moving it gently to observe the damage. There was definitely a developing bruise underneath his right eye, his forehead and cheek were both littered with scrapes of all shapes and sizes. Aaron winced when his head reached a particular angle, and it wasn't a subtle wince either. It was a startling jolt, agonizing pain obvious.
But it was at your touch, and your presence, that his eyes softened. The stagnant sharpness dissolving as he looked at you with a tenderness that was almost too raw to hide. You pulled back to get a better look at him as whole, ensuring he was fully intact.
"He's 'fine', in case you were wondering. Only told us 'bout a million times." Morgan added air quotes, sitting down and kicking his feet onto the table. "Refused medical attention, even."
"Manners." You swatted his foot, causing him to lower them before turning back to Aaron. You tutted at him softly, "You did? After that lil stunt you just pulled?"
"Well... I guess it is starting to hurt more now."
"I wonder why," JJ commented humorously under her breath, hiding her smile with her palm. Additionally, Emily and Derek gave him a look.
You quickly reached into your bag, riffling through it until you found your handy tube of Neosporin. "C'mon, let's get you cleaned up."
Aaron didn't argue, didn't utter a single word as he followed you to the bathroom like a lost puppy. Once inside the small space you maneuvered him back against the sink, washing your hands next.
"That was stupid of you." You wet a paper towel, dabbing his cuts and ridding of any dry blood, once again causing him to flinch at the touch. You pulled the towel away, pausing a moment, before resuming gently. "Even if you think you're not in need of getting checked out, please do, for my sake at least. I'd like my husband to stay in one piece if possible."
"I know, I'm sorry."
"What happened?"
"We were clearing the grounds and he managed to catch me by surprise," Aaron huffed out, evidently annoyed at himself. "I should have seen it coming. Seen him in the shadows, reacted faster."
"Baby, you may think you have the invincibility of Superman, but you don't. You're human, it's okay to miss things every once and a while." You reassured him softly, tossing the towel aside and moving onto the Neosporin. After dabbing some onto your index finger, you began blotting it thoroughly onto the cuts. "Which I'm fine with, by the way, you're much better looking."
"Yeah?" A laugh escaped Aaron, but his chuckle was interrupted by the twinge in his ribcage, the entirety of it shooting up in pain.
"I'm sorry," you gasped gently, guilt sweeping through you.
"It's fine, 'm fine." He breathed out through his teeth, his jaw clenching momentarily, until the pain subsided. "I'm okay sweetheart. Now c'mon, your face is far too pretty to look that worried."
Your eyebrows were furrowed, eyes frantically searching his face.
"Really. So I'm a little bruised up, I've been through far worse."
You sighed, not entirely convinced. "Fine. But when we get home tomorrow," your eyes narrowed slightly, pointing the Neosporin at him as a 'threat'. "You're resting. Come hell or high water."
"Deal."
"I'm happy you're okay." Suddenly emotional, tears dared to spill from your eyes. They stalled at your waterline, completely blurring your vision. You hated to see him in pain, and the reminder of past events didn't help. "Don't scare me like that."
"C'mere," Aaron raised his arms, gesturing for you to come close.
"I don't want to hurt you-"
"Come here."
You took a step forward, not raising your arms to potentially inflict pain, but rest your body against his. Your face found home in the crook of his neck, while his arms did wrap around you. Not as tight as usual, but enough to hold you and not hurt.
"I'm fine," he kissed the side of your head. "And I have my girl to thank for that. Although, you did miss a spot."
"I did? Where?" You pulled back, beginning to unscrew the tube's cap but Aaron's hand stopped you.
"Right here." He pointed to his lips, playing up the 'anguish' in his eyes. "Hurts real bad."
Your lips tugged into a smile, leaning in and offering him a short, sweet kiss.
"That's all I get?"
You playfully rolled your eyes before giving his lips another quick kiss. He chased your lips, but you pulled back, keeping just out of reach.
"Want a longer one? Get medical attention next time."

Taste | Max Verstappen x Singer! Reader
Summary: She’ll just have to taste you when he’s kissing her. When Max and Kelly break up, the pair of you start something sweet. But, it only lasts a short while when your conflicting schedules drive him back into her arms.
Warnings: Kelly Piquet slander.
Requested: No, I’m just obsessed with making up fantasies whilst I drive home from work with my music on
Faceclaim: Sabrina Carpenter (yes, I know she’s used a lot but I stole her song and her occupation so why not steal her face)
F1 Masterlist
next.

hiii i LOVE your work!!!! i was wondering if you could write something for percy, like maybe he gets his wisdom teeth taken out and wants to see us but he’s all loopy? not sure if your taking requests rn so if not it’s okay!!! <3
◟𖥻 wisdom teeth : percy jackson
▰▰ pairing: percy jackson x fem!reader
Percy gets his wisdom teeth removed. His filter? Gone. His love for his girlfriend? Louder than ever.
Warnings: use of y/n, no cabin mentioned for reader, prob medical inaccuracies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Percy has been out cold for a while, mouth open, cheeks puffy, drool on full display. And she has been sitting beside him the whole time, hand resting over his. But eventually, she does need a bathroom break.
"Go, I'll keep an eye on him." Sally gives her a soft smile. "Besides, he's sleeping. He won't even notice."
But, as fate would have it, he does notice. Once she shuts the door behind her, Percy immediately stirs in his sleep, and then Sally hears a groggy whine.
"y/n?" he mumbles in a pitiful whisper.
Sally smiles gently at her son. "Hey, honey. You're awake."
That doesn’t seem to soothe him as he blinks around the room in panic, like he's some kind of lost puppy. "Where's y/n?"
"She went to the bathroom, sweetie, she'll be right back soon."
"She left me?" He gasps. "she can't leave me, she's my emotional support human."
By the time she finally comes back, Sally already has her phone out and is recording, giggling behind the camera as Percy looks over at the door and his eyes get comically wide.
"baby!" He beams, trying to stretch his arms towards her. "What took you soooo long? I almost died in here."
She looks at Sally first, holding back her laughter as she walks towards Percy, standing just beside his bed. "I was gone for two minutes, Perce."
He's immediately reaching for her hand. "Too long." He whines, pulling her hand to his chest dramatically. "Don't ever leave me again."
With her free hand, she brushes some curls off his forehead, giving him a soft smile. "I won't leave, Perce, I promise."
"You're so pretty." Percy mumbles, looking totally in awe. "Do you have a boyfriend?"
"Yes, I do have a boyfriend."
Both her and Sally have to hold back a chuckle when he pouts at her.
"Aw man." He replies, shaking his head, then he looks around as if he's making sure there’s no one close to hear him and whispers "I can be a much better boyfriend, I swear."
"Percy, you already are my boyfriend."
"Yes! See? I knew that other guy couldn't stand a chance." He nods to himself, completely sure, then turns his head to Sally with his mouth open and an attempted grin. "Mom, can you believe how lucky I am?"
Sally nods behind her camera. "Yes, sweetie, very lucky."
Percy goes back to looking at his girlfriend, giving her a loopy smile as his head falls back on the pillow.
"I'm gonna marry you someday." He suddenly tells her. "You wanna marry me?"
Her eyes soften, but her heart feels like it's going to jump out of her chest at any moment. "Yes, Perce, someday."
His smile widens as if he won some kind of trophy, mouth full of gauze. "I'll ask you properly later, don't ya worry." He promises.
There’s a pause, she thinks maybe he already got tired of trying to talk. But he doesn’t drop her hand, or stops looking at her.
Then— "We're gonna live by the sea." He nods to himself. "In a pretty blue house, with our children, and you can wear those sundresses you have. God, I love those. You always look so pretty."
She smiles, leaning to press a kiss on his forehead. That's exactly when the nurse comes in, clipboard in hand and a cheerful smile. "Alright, Percy, we're just gonna do a quick check to see if you're good to go home."
Percy looks absolutely horrified when y/n starts to pull back, and he immediately shakes his head, refusing to let go of her hand. "No! don't go."
"I'll be right here, baby, they just need to check on you before—"
"I don't trust her" Percy interrupts, narrowing his eyes in the nurse's way. "She's trying to steal you away from me."
The poor nurse can only laugh. "I promise i'm not."
"She's evil." He whispers dramatically to his girlfriend, loud enough for everybody else to hear. "I don't trust her. Don't like her vibe."
"Percy, she's just doing her job." Sally says through a laugh.
"Then she can do it while y/n holds my hand." He insists, wrapping both arms around her arm, refusing to let go.
After he threatens to bite the nurse, she has no other choice but to work that way. And thankfully, she makes quick work out of checking everything's alright, all while Percy refuses to stop glaring at her.
Once she's done, He sighs dramatically, the gauze in his mouth freshly replaced by the nurse. "I swear, that nurse's a homewrecker."
And the ride home? he gets even worse there, in the car he refuses to sit alone and pulls her with him at the backseat. Then, for a few minutes he's just mumbling nonsense and pointing things he sees passing by the window.
It isn't until maybe ten minutes later in traffic that he finally drops his head on her lap and starts to fall asleep again, her fingers gently brushing through his hair.
"I love you." he mumbles, eyes closed. "thanks for leaving your boyfriend for me. I swear I'll make you as many blue pancakes as you want when we get married."
She lets out a soft laugh, Sally looks at them through the rearview mirror with a smile of her own. "You're are my boyfriend, Percy." she whispers.
He hums sleepily. "Good. The other one didn’t deserve you."
She giggles, leaning down to press a kiss to the top of his head. He melts under her touch, scooting even closer.
"Your hair smells like dreams." he adds with a little dreamy tone.
"Dreams?" She asks, but he doesn’t reply, so she assumes he's already asleep.
They get to the apartment not long after, and Percy is insistent that he can walk by himself. He can't. So Sally and her have to walk with him clinging to them like a koala.
By the time they get inside, he immediately beelines to the couch and flops down. "Percy, your room is right there." She tells him, but he just grumbles in response before he pulls her down with him, wrapping his arms around her waist.
"This is your life now. You live on the couch. With me." He decides.
She doesn’t try to fight it, because she knows it's helpless. After a few minutes his breathing slows and he stops mumbling nonsense, so she figures he's finally asleep.
Until he mutters, "Mrs. Jackson sounds really good, doesn’t it?"
"It does, Perce, It does."
He doesn’t add anything, so she just smiles and kisses his temple, holding him a little tighter. Eventually, his breathing slows and he falls asleep. No more mumbling about marriage or evil nurses.
And she stays there, holding him close, until Sally insists she should have something to eat. So she manages to get out of Percy's hold, and he doesn't wake up this time, he keeps sleeping, curling on the couch.
It's about two hours later when he finally wakes up again, blinking at the ceiling like it personally betrayed him. "Why does my mouth taste like cardboard?"
She's sitting on the floor beside the couch. "You had gauze in it." She replies, giving him a glass of water. "Here, drink."
He sits up slowly, taking the glass from her. "Did that stop me from talking?" He asks, already dreading her answer.
There’s a moment where he can see her trying to hold back a giggle. "Oh no, you actually talked a lot."
He puts the glass down, running his hand through his hair with a sleepy groan. "What did I say?"
"Where do you want me to start?" She starts, clearly amused. "Maybe when you threatened to bite the nurse if she took me from you? Or when you flirted with me like I was a stranger and told me to leave my boyfriend?"
"Just show him the video." Sally calls out from the kitchen.
"There’s a video?" Percy looks horrified, but then his curiosity gets the best of him. "Okay, it probably isn't that bad."
She pulls out her phone and plays the video. And it definitely is that bad. He watches with an increasingly mortified expression as past Percy almost cries when he wakes up without her, then when she comes back he tells her that she deserves a better boyfriend and then—
'I'm gonna marry you someday. You wanna marry me?'
There’s a pause. And Percy stares at the screen, completely horrified, for a moment. Until he simply shrugs.
"Damn right i'm gonna marry you." He says, voice still scratchy but smug. He lets his head fall back against the couch cushion and adds, "Don't need anesthesia to know that."
Her cheeks burn, but Percy grins, reaching for her hand. He's fully awake now, but still very much in love.
"You still down for that little blue house by the sea?" He asks playfully, though he can't help but feel hopeful.
She squeezes his hand. "Only if the blue pancakes offer is still available."
He grins. "For you? Always."

can you speak on your severance s2 opinions? i promise this isnt in bad faith or anything, im just anon bc im shy lol, im genuinely curious
Tumblr media
i'm gonna put this under a read more because it's gonna be long but...yeah [scratches head] if YOU the person reading this looooved this season and see nothing you didn't like about it, thats awesome and i'm happy for you. i also liked things in this season, and also its normal to be able to critique things you like, love and light <3 its literally just television
generally, yeah, i found myself disappointed with it. i think the writing this season, both the dialogue and then the actual character/world writing, fell flat and/or seemed like it was completely incongruous with the characters and world that we had seen in season 1. i think something i really appreciated about season 1 is that yes, mark was our main character and the lens we got introduced to both the inside and outside world, but both felt so much BIGGER than just him.
season 2, the entire plot and world and characters bend and contort to make mark like, the center of the universe lol. it's kind of ridiculous, the extent to which the world revolves around him now. it makes the world feel SOOO small. parts of my favorite worldbuilding aspects are seeing how the outside world feels about severance--i think the part where we see how working as a severed employee makes it almost impossible to work anywhere else is great! and in concept i like seeing other towns that have been devastated by lumon's industrialization, though i don't love the execution that we got. so like...everything lumon does is about mark? ALL of it? i know we don't know exactly how long lumon has been operating but like...they've been working on this stuff for longer than two years, lol. like, how many files have dylan completed? irving? petey? that girlie who wrote the lexington letter? is all of their work literally meaningless? like i get that there were people before gemma who failed the tests and they died, sure, but what about when mark started working there? what about the files that irving started and didn't finish, why don't they care about those? ohhhh right, because that's not the one that mark's working on. i get that it'd be a big deal if they got it to work fully once, but surely they'd want to make it work AGAIN, right??? like a science experiment?? i just wish we got like, A nod to other people on the testing floor, because i think the implication is that all of them are working on files connected to…different people, but maybe they're all just different versions of gemma?
honestly all of the innie stuff this season just felt so…idk, aimless? it feels like parts of the building only exist when the writers want them to, and just generally are not interested in exploring anything outside of the romantic aspects for all of these characters. like sure, after the season 1 finale, their asses are not gonna wanna work (EXCEPT FOR WHEN THEY DO? TO MOVE THE PLOT ALONG?), but where's the camaraderie? what about all those other people in O&D, they literally export things to the testing floor, maybe they know about gemma? fundamentally i think the thing that's the most frustrating about innie mark is that they keep telling us that he doesn't care about gemma. which, sure, outie gemma, he doesn't have that same connection with as helly, whatever. but also, he DOES care about her, he literally knows that that's ms casey and that lumon was just going to do what they always do when they fire people????? like s1 mark cared soooo much about his coworkers, ALL OF THEM, even the ones that weren't there anymore—seeing petey and then ms casey get removed was like, a HUGE deal and vital to his growth as a character!!!! and the way that they constructed this whole season basically to remove everyone that isn't mark and helly by the end. lol. i'm honestly shocked that they didn't make a new version of the desk that was just two chairs, like dylan was just excluded from the finale except for when they needed him to come in and hold the door against mr. milchick. again. lol
i don't inherently have a problem with exploring the romantic stuff, i think that could have been done well, but i just don't think it was. and that's primarily because, i think the writing this season for helly was ass! they took away her agency and subjugated her to be just the love interest for mark! especially with the finale, i just feel like the helly i know would've been like mark, what are you doing??? go?!? like she wants to take down lumon, THAT's what will take down lumon! like whatever, mark made the choice that he did, but helly playing along with it makes no fucking senseee. like they want us to think that it's the same ol helly we know and love, they give us crumbs of her anger, like when she's rallying the marching band people or whatever, but again, only when it's plot convenient. WHY WOULD SHE NOT ATTACK JAME? he's like 90???? and helly doesn't like this man???? she has nothing to lose???? fucking THROW something at him helly!!!! the helly that tried to chop her fingers off and hang herself and gave that speech in the s1 finale is not in the room with us. and i don't mean this in a way where i think it's helena again, it's not. they've just completely fumbled her character because they want mark and helly to be together at all costs. and honestly, i think it's so reductive to make this show just about ships, but textually it feels like that's what they want us to do, and i think that's sad. again, it makes the show feel so SMALL, when the world within it used to feel so BIG and like we would want to learn more about it. i care about mark and helly--before they kissed!! i think it was rewarding to see the ways they challenged each other and grew as people!! them as a romantic thing could work but they haven't put in the work to MAKE it work. and, it feels like of redundant even to say, but i do think it's fucking ridiculous to write a story where we get kissing and fucking for allllll the straight characters and then the one gay couple doesn't even get a kiss before separating them completely and writing irving out of the show, basically. like what are we in, hayes code era television?
but yeah, the information they chose to reveal vs what they didn't was also frustrating. i honestly wish they revealed less! there's so much TELLING this season. it feels like they think we're stupid (which, i can't speak for the entire population watching the show, maybe some people literally do need mark to look at the camera and explain everything, idk). like there's sooo much clever storytelling in the first season that just, completely gets snuffed out from overexplaining. i understand in the finale that oMark needs to tell iMark about why he did all of this but like, WE as the audience already know??? we don't need to see this?? and cobel confirming stuff i feel like we already knew about how the numbers work and like, i just don't knowwww. like you can just show me it, i was picking up on it. like we know about the four tempers, you show it to us all the time, cobel having to look dead in the camera and explain it just made me feel like there was a better way we could've done this. i do think some stuff benefits from a "hard" confirmation. like i'm glad they confirmed the helena thing, BECAUSE it backs up and supports all of the lovely and subtle things they had already shown to prove that it WAS helena! like i've known since the first episode LOL, so they do KNOW how to do subtle storytelling. and i think the gemma episode was great, i loved seeing her as a character and thought it gave her so much depth. but again, i think allll of the explaining they do this season not only snuffs out the fun of speculating on the viewing end, but from a writing perspective it just kind of writes them into a corner. i think they're focused too much on making these elaborate set pieces and events take place without thinking of how they fit together, not only on like a writing/episodic level but just the world of lumon at large.
i think a great way they showed story in the first season is through the paintings, and through irving and burt bonding over the paintings! like it not only establishes the lore of kier and then we get to learn more about them as characters through their reactions to the paintings. the paintings this season, honestly, were weak, they were so heavy handed. love and light to whoever painted them, but they were nottt doing the job for me.
(this is a small thing, but like…the intake questionnaire asks them to "name a US state or territory," so they KNOW that delaware is a state. so why would they think the equator is a building? again its just like. a cutesy moment for mark and helly to banter but they could've done it in a way that isn't contradictory to like, our understanding of what information crosses over the sever and what does not).
i keep thinking about the ORTBO, and it just seems fucking CRAZY to me that they aren't freaking out about SEEING THE SKY? BREATHING FRESH AIR? FEELING FIRE? SLEEPING?? WASN'T THE WHOLE THING THAT THEY COULDN'T FALL ASLEEP???? i guess my impression of how the chip works is that the technology doesn't know how to handle when they enter a subconscious/asleeep state, so the innie and outie memories begin to bleed together, hence why dozing would be a bad thing on the job. but again, they clearly had this idea of how they wanted irving to reveal that it's helena in the waterfall, and yes, i did enjoy the spectacle of the episode, but its another example of how they'll build these moments and only focus on what they want to see. like there's so much interesting stuff that they could explore and just choose not to, because (usually) it doesn't involve mark, or mark and helly.
also, i'm just gonna say it, i feel like the writing for the women this season all was kinda bad! it's, again, a byproduct of the world revolving around mark now. reghabi is brought into the story when mark needs her, and cast aside when he doesn't want her anymore. devon has been completely reduced to mark's lackey, like i guess ricken and the baby are fucking fine or whatever??? because she only exists when mark is around, and her only job is caring about mark (which obviously yes, they're siblings, of course they care—but s1 devon had a life outside of mark as well). cobel is only brought back into the story to explain to mark how cold harbor works. i said this before but honestly i like the concept of her little solo episode, though the execution wasn't great, because at least she was doing something on her own (except for when she needs that guy to help her. heaven forbid a woman does something of her own accord without a man to help). and again, helly is completely flanderized to be mark's love interest. i think there's a way to have mark and helly be together and them be their own people, but for the length of the season they did not have the proper time to unpack all the shit from the ORTBO episode so everyone just…conveniently gets over it very quickly, like in the span of a day. like i do think it's a jump to go from "i don't trust you, are you even you?" to missionary under plastic tarps that quickly, i'm sorry. and i think even gemma suffers from this fate as well. i think with hers it makes more sense, like she fucking loves her husband, but i wish she was given opportunities to like…want things for herself, too. like she hasn't been outside in two years! i bet she misses her job, her students, her family, devon, ricken, like anyone outside of mark? but she has to be the tragic love interest that can't be with mark but can't run away from mark, either. she's reduced to set dressing for mark and helly by the end.
they constructed this season i think, with the hopes and knowledge that they'll likely get a season 3. which yes, we know now that it's been confirmed and approved or whatever, but they didn't know that when making season 2, and it feels like no one got a full character arc. it's all start and no follow through. we've had the same "mr. milchick experiences racism in the workplace" moment like what, five, six times, and yet we haven't even started to see him DO something about it yet? like sure he told mr. drummond to eat shit, but then to play along with the minstrel show cold harbor shit, they just didn't care about giving that plot line any action so it'll just get brushed along to season 3. (and while there's intentional commentary about race in the show, it also feels like there's unintentional consequences to their writing choices that upholds the whiteness. like, natalie is just forgotten about, reghabi is dropped as soon as mark doesn't want to play with her anymore, ms. huang barely gets to do anything before being written off and sent away, and yes, i do think having gemma suffer as mark and helly skip away is part of it. it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, sorry!). i think dylan is maybe the closest we get to an interesting arc, and i enjoy the inclusion of his wife, but even he's reduced to JUST this story, only getting to talk to mark or helly when the writers need him to, i guess. and the stuff with burt and fields is so nothing, like it feels like it should be going somewhere but they're just leaving it open for season 3 (i guess??? even though it seems like irving isn't going to be in it at all, so why would we be following burt and fields??? and also don't even get me started on how the outie irving stuff is just NOT EXPLORED AT ALL. like whatever sure who the hell cares, sorry for wanting to see that go somewhere or whatever).
it's too early for full reintegration to happen so, we'll just finish that in season 3. (then why introduce it so early in season 2? ohhh right, we need cliffhangers to end every episode on). it almost feels like they don't have faith that people will keep watching without introducing these dramatic moments, but it's all just gasps of breath, there's no actual momentum. like, i've already watched the first season, you don't need to bait me with the prospect of seeing meaningful progression and then take it away from me when the next episode starts. the structure of how episodes speak to each other is that they…don't? like obviously i don't need every episode to pick up on the exact moment the last left off, but the timeline of this season is just soooo strange. the first two episodes are in the same span of time, and then there's gemma and cobel's episodes back to back…it genuinely just feels like they didn't consider the season as a whole which, considering how much money and time it took to make it happen, makes no sense.
and to continue on the timeline aspect, it feels so confusing as to how much time has really passed. it feels like the wanted the structure of the first season, but the pacing mechanic of the first season (working up to the end of the quarter to get to the waffle party) makes the pacing of the second feel even worse. like a.) mark's completed like 3 files a quarter (if we assume he's worked there for 8 quarters, i.e. two years), so making THIS file the super special final one truncates the possible time by at least a third.but then also, b.) he's been at like 95% complete since like, episode 5..? again, i just think it should've been considered more during the planning stages. and it kind of boggles my mind that the creative team views the marching band in this finale to be analogous to the waffle party in s1 when, it's way closer to the music dance experience? (they said this in the like behind the scenes for the finale ep). and in that regard, it really does kind of feel like a retread that doesn't work as well because, again, it's all about mark! especially after the shit with the kier statue, why would mr. milchick play along with the song and dance, like it just feels like they wanted to use tramell tillman's dance experience again, and they wanted to use the colored lights again. he could've just stood by the door to make sure mark and helly stayed there, which was obviously the goal of having all those people there. and yeah, i get the work is mysterious and important or whatever, but the implication that they have ALL OF THESE PEOPLE whos sole job is to be a marching band makes no fucking sense, i'm sorry. i find it hard to play along with the worldbuilding, again it makes lumon seem like its run by like dr. doofenshmirtz or something, it's so cartoony. like are they a global and successful company, or are they incompetent and leave gaping holes for their employees to undo everything? this is THE MOST IMPORTANT DAY IN LUMON HISTORY and they couldn't…shut the door to MDR like they had before? the goat sacrifice room is directly outside the exports hall door? the music dance experience works so well as a catharsis moment because everyone has their own shit going on, and we get to see the guy who hasn't really disobeyed yet (dylan) finally snap, and we see the others come and support him as a TEAM. it's just spectacle for us, the viewer. and especially the thing where they make the panels with mark's face on it—HE CAN'T SEE IT???? i don't need fan service winking moments like that, i dunno, that just annoyed me lol.
anyway, i feel like i have more to say probably but i gotta go do things so, i'm gonna leave it here. in conclusion, i'm missing my friends from s1 MDR sooo so bad, i feel like i haven't seen them this season at all. i did like parts of this season, but overall it was not what i was hoping it would be. (i don't even really KNOW what i wanted it to be, and of course it doesn't matter what i "want," but i feel like what i "want" lined up with what they wanted to do explore with season 1 so…maybe that's where the dissonance is coming from). and whereas at the end of s1, where i left it being like "where are they going to go from here?? (as in, theres so many possibilities", this season finale has left me asking "…where are we gonna go from here?" because i'm left like, inherently incurious about the people we have left and the choices they've made. and, i feel like THEY (as in the executive team making it) must feel this way too, because apparently they've completely scrapped the writers room from this season and added on two new showrunners. good luck to whoever that executive story editor is LOL

One of the things you had always loved about hospitals was the stillness, the quiet that seemed to wrap the entire building in a soft cocoon of serenity. The absence of loud, unnecessary noise, the only sounds being the faint, comforting whispers of nurses moving about their duties, and the occasional soft murmur of visitors exchanging words.
But now, that same silence was suffocating. What once brought you comfort now felt oppressive, a cruel reminder of the pain you were enduring. The quiet made every breath you took feel louder, every sensation sharper. It was as if the stillness in the room amplified your suffering, making each contraction feel more intense, more unbearable. The world outside seemed so far away, and inside, all you could focus on was the agony that seemed to pulse through your body, relentlessly, without end.
The only sound that broke the silence was the rhythm of your own breathing, steady but shallow, as you tried desperately to stay in control. You focused on each inhale and exhale, trying to calm the storm inside you, but with each contraction, the pain grew. Your mind raced with each passing second, but you kept your eyes closed, holding on to the one constant in the room: Lando.
He was there, as always, your unwavering support. He hadn’t left your side for hours, holding your hand firmly, his presence a steady anchor in the sea of pain. His voice, soft and soothing, whispered words of reassurance in your ear, grounding you in the chaos. His touch was like a lifeline, pulling you back from the edge, reminding you that you were not alone.
“Lando…” you gasped between breaths, the pain surging again, a new wave of contractions hitting. Your eyes fluttered open, the world around you still spinning. “Is Sophie okay? Is she with Cisca?”
Lando’s face softened, his gaze steady and comforting as he brushed a loose strand of hair from your forehead. “She’s fine, baby,” he replied in a calm, quiet voice, squeezing your hand. “She’s with my mum, playing with her toys. She’s so excited to meet her little brother. You don’t have to worry about her.”
You took in a shaky breath, nodding slightly, but the worry didn’t leave your heart. “I just… I don’t want her to be scared, Lando. She’s still so young…”
“She’s not scared, honey,” he reassured you. “She’s fine. You focus on yourself now, okay? You’ve got this.”
Your eyes searched his face, desperate for something to hold onto, and though the pain felt like it was going to swallow you whole, the certainty in his voice gave you something to latch onto. His words, like a balm, calmed your racing heart just enough for you to focus.
But as the intensity of the moment deepened, Lando gently released your hand and stepped away, just for a moment, to speak with the nurses. You barely noticed as he moved, consumed by the fire burning within you, but the slight absence of his presence felt like a gap in the world. He’d been with you every step of the way, and now, with him gone even for a few seconds, it felt like the room grew colder.
And then, the door creaked open, the sound breaking the stillness as the doctor entered. Everything shifted in that instant. The air felt heavier, more charged. The time had come. The moment you had been waiting for, dreading, and anticipating in equal measure was finally here. The baby was almost here. The contractions that had seemed endless now had a purpose, the pain now a sign that the end of this chapter was near. And in that moment, you realized you were about to cross into something completely new.
Lando returned to your side in a heartbeat, his hand back in yours, steady and sure. His thumb gently rubbed over your knuckles, his eyes never leaving yours.
“You’re doing amazing,” he murmured, his voice full of love and encouragement. “This is it, baby. We’re almost there.”
You nodded, focusing on his voice, on his hand in yours, as the world outside melted away. He was right. You were almost there. The baby was almost here.
In the hospital’s waiting room, Sophie sat quietly beside Lando’s mom, her tiny fingers fidgeting with the edges of her dress. She had been waiting for what felt like hours, her excitement growing with every passing minute. At first, she had been bouncing around, full of nervous energy, asking every few minutes if the baby had arrived yet. But now, with time dragging on, she was growing restless. The energy she had once radiated was fading into quiet fidgets and soft sighs, her eyes flicking toward the hallway every few seconds as if hoping for some sort of sign that something was happening.
Cisca, ever the doting grandmother, tried her best to keep Sophie distracted. She handed her a coloring book, hoping the bright pictures would capture her attention. "Here, sweetie, why don't you color this one? It’s a picture of a bunny with a little baby in her arms. Maybe that’ll make you feel better."
Sophie glanced at the book briefly but then set it aside, her eyes once again darting to the hallway. "Nana," she said softly, a small crease forming between her brows, "when's the baby coming? Is he here yet?"
Cisca smiled gently, though she could see the concern in Sophie’s eyes. "Soon, sweetheart. Your mommy and daddy are taking care of everything right now. It’s almost time."
"But why is it taking so long?" Sophie asked, her voice tinged with frustration and a bit of anxiety. "I thought babies just come out. Why is it so… so slow?"
Lando’s mom chuckled, her heart swelling with affection for the little girl. "Well, sweetie, babies don’t always come when we expect them to. Sometimes, they take their time and do things at their own pace. But don’t worry, your mommy is strong. She’s doing a great job."
Sophie gave a small nod but didn’t seem entirely convinced. She could hear the reassurance in her grandmother’s voice, but it didn’t quiet the flutter of unease in her stomach. Something was different now. As much as she had been looking forward to this day, she couldn’t help but feel a bit scared. What if everything changed once the baby was here? What if her parents didn’t have as much time for her anymore?
She pulled her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around them, staring at the door as if willing it to open. "Nana… what if things are different now? What if Mommy and Daddy don’t have time for me anymore? What if they love the baby more than me?"
Cisca’s smile softened, and she gently placed a hand on Sophie’s shoulder. "Oh, honey, I know you’re feeling nervous. But your mommy and daddy love you so, so much. That will never change, not even when your little brother gets here. You’re their big girl, and they need you just as much as ever. You’ll be a big sister, and that’s a very important job."
"But I don’t want to share them," Sophie whispered, her voice barely audible. "I like being the only one."
Her grandmother squeezed her shoulder comfortingly. "I know, sweetie. It’s okay to feel that way. It’s a big change, and it’s okay to be a little scared. But you’ll see — you’re going to be the best big sister. And you’re going to have so much fun teaching your little brother all the things you know. You’ll always have special moments with your mommy and daddy, just like before."
Sophie chewed on her bottom lip, still uncertain. "I guess so," she murmured, though the anxiety still lingered in her chest. Her mind drifted to memories of playing with her mom and dad, all the little moments when it had just been the three of them. It felt like a world that might slip away.
Before Lando’s mom could offer more comforting words, Sophie’s eyes widened, and she straightened in her seat, her heart skipping a beat. She stared at the hallway door, as if she could sense something was about to happen. "Nana, I think I heard something! Do you think it’s time?"
Lando’s mom chuckled softly and nodded. "Maybe it is. Let’s wait and see, sweetheart."
Sophie shifted in her seat, her legs shaking with a mix of excitement and nerves. "I just want to meet him," she said quietly, her voice filled with wonder and a hint of fear. "I hope he’s really cute. What if he cries all the time? What if I don’t know what to do?"
Her grandmother’s gentle laugh filled the room. "You’ll know what to do. You’re a smart, kind girl, and you’ll know just how to help. And as for crying — well, that’s just part of being a baby. But you’ll get used to it, I promise."
Sophie’s brow furrowed for a moment before she nodded slowly, trying to convince herself that it would be okay. She was excited, really. Deep down, she knew she would love her little brother. But the unknown was always the hardest part. As much as she had wanted this day to come, it was suddenly here, and with it came the realization that things would be different from now on. The whole world was about to shift, and she wasn’t sure what that would mean for her.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the door to the waiting room swung open. Lando stood in the doorway, his face glowing with a mixture of excitement and relief. His usual calm demeanor was replaced with an undeniable energy, and his eyes immediately found Sophie. A smile tugged at his lips, softening the tension that had been building in his chest for hours.
"Sophie," he said, his voice warm but with an edge of nervous energy, "It’s time, Soph." He paused, his gaze filled with emotion as he stepped into the room, his footsteps quiet but purposeful. "Are you ready to meet your baby brother?"
Sophie’s heart leaped in her chest, and she jumped to her feet, her wide eyes never leaving her father. All the restlessness, the worry, and the nervousness she'd been holding onto for hours seemed to melt away in that moment. Her legs felt shaky, but her excitement made her move with purpose. “Is he here? Is it really time to see him?”
Lando nodded, his face breaking into a proud, loving grin. “Yeah, he’s finally here.” He took a step closer, his voice lowering slightly, though there was still a hint of excitement behind it. "Come with me, sweetie. You get to meet him first."
Sophie’s breath caught in her throat. She couldn’t believe it. She had been waiting for this moment for so long, her anticipation building with each passing second, and now, it was finally here. She had spent hours imagining what this day would be like, and now it was unfolding in front of her. The baby, her little brother, was real. He was finally here.
“Is he okay?” Sophie asked, her voice small but filled with concern. She had to know. There had been so many questions bouncing around in her head during the long hours in the waiting room, and now that the moment had come, it seemed like there was one more important thing she needed to ask. “Mommy’s okay, too, right?”
Lando’s smile softened as he knelt down to her level, taking her hands in his. “Mommy’s doing great, honey,” he assured her, his voice soothing. “She’s a real trooper. And your baby brother, he’s healthy and perfect. You’re going to love him, Soph.”
Sophie clutched Lando’s hand tightly as he guided her toward the room, her heart thumping wildly in her chest. Every step felt like a small eternity, and with each passing second, her nerves grew. What if her brother didn’t like her? What if he didn’t want her to hold him? What if everything changed, and she wasn’t ready for it?
Lando, sensing her tension, glanced down at her with a warm smile, squeezing her hand gently. “I know it’s a big moment, but I’m so proud of you, Soph,” he said, his voice calm but filled with pride. “You’re going to be such a great big sister. I know it.”
Sophie gave a small nod, trying her best to hide her nerves, but her eyes betrayed her. Her excitement was there, but so was the fear of the unknown. She didn’t know what it would feel like to be the big sister. But she was about to find out, and it felt like a lot to take in all at once.
Lando reached out and gently opened the door to your room. The room felt calm and serene, but it was also filled with an undeniable sense of change. And there you were, sitting on the bed, your face a mixture of exhaustion and joy, holding a tiny baby in your arms. Your eyes were fixed on your son, filled with love, a love so deep it was almost palpable. his little hands grasped at the soft blanket, his tiny features so delicate and perfect, like a new world all on his own.
Sophie froze in the doorway, her small body stiffening as her eyes locked onto the tiny bundle in your arms. her little brother's eyes were closed, his body curled up in peaceful slumber, but to Sophie, it was all so overwhelming. She had imagined this moment for so long, built it up in her mind, but now that it was here, now that he was real and in your arms, it felt like the world had shifted in ways she didn’t know how to handle. She couldn’t look away from the tiny form, but it was almost too much to take in.
You smiled softly at Sophie, your heart overflowing with love, and opened your arms to her. "Come here, baby girl," you said gently, your voice soothing and full of warmth. "I want you to meet your little brother, River."
Sophie hesitated, her eyes still fixed on River in your arms. Every part of her wanted to move forward, but the unknown was a heavy weight in her chest. She was afraid of how her world would change, afraid of River, afraid of not knowing what to do. But then, Lando crouched down beside her, his hand resting gently on her shoulder, his voice quiet and steady. "He’s pretty amazing, huh?"
Sophie nodded slowly, her eyes wide in awe, her heart full of emotion she couldn’t quite put into words. She didn’t say anything at first; she just stared down at River, watching him sleep peacefully. She reached out tentatively, a small finger brushing the baby’s tiny hand, feeling the warmth and softness of his skin. A wave of wonder and love washed over her, the weight of the moment settling in.
"He’s so little," Sophie whispered, her voice barely above a breath, filled with awe. She held her other hand over her chest, as if trying to contain the rush of emotions that surged through her — wonder, excitement, and something else too, something she couldn’t quite name.
Lando smiled gently, watching his daughter with a quiet tenderness. "He is. And now… you’re his big sister." His voice was full of pride, his eyes filled with love as he looked at Sophie.
Sophie’s eyes remained on River, a soft smile creeping onto her face as she slowly sank to her knees beside you. She was still unsure of what it all meant, still trying to process the whirlwind of emotions inside her, but as she gently touched her baby brother’s hand again, a feeling of protectiveness began to blossom in her chest.
“Hi, little brother,” she whispered softly, her voice full of wonder, as if speaking to him for the first time. “I’m Sophie. I’m your big sister.”
Lando stood beside her, his arm resting around her shoulders, as he looked down at his children — one so small, so new, and one growing up right before his eyes. This was the moment they had been waiting for. The moment everything changed.
Sophie’s smile grew a little wider, and she turned to look up at her dad. "I think I’m going to like being a big sister."
Lando’s heart swelled with pride and love as he bent down to kiss the top of her head. "I know you will, sweetheart. You’re going to be amazing."
The day you were finally discharged from the hospital felt like a whirlwind. You packed up the baby’s things, bundled River carefully in his tiny car seat, and, with a little help from Lando, you all made your way to the car. Sophie was bouncing with excitement, eager to finally be home and start this new chapter of their lives together. She had been waiting for this moment, but as the reality of it all sank in, she couldn’t shake the nervous flutter in her stomach. What would life be like once they were home? What if everything felt different?
As you all settled into the car, Sophie sat quietly beside River, gazing at him in his car seat, her fingers gently brushing the edge of the blanket covering him. “He’s so small,” Sophie said softly, her voice filled with a mix of wonder and concern. “What if I mess something up?”
Lando reached over, squeezing her hand reassuringly. “You’re doing great, Soph. We’re all in this together. He’s going to need both of us. You’re going to be a great big sister.”
Sophie smiled, but the doubt lingered in her eyes. She was still processing everything, still figuring out how to share the love and attention she had always gotten, and now River needed it all too.
When you arrived home, the house felt different, but in a good way. There were new baby things everywhere, and the familiar routine that had once seemed so normal now felt strange. You laid River down in his bassinet for the first time, the soft sound of his little breaths filling the air. Sophie stood by, watching as you gently rocked him to sleep, her arms crossed over her chest, her face a mix of curiosity and uncertainty.
Later that night, after a long day of adjusting, River began to cry. The sound echoed through the house, loud and persistent. You rushed to his side, trying to soothe him with gentle words and soft touches. But the crying didn’t stop. Sophie, who had been sitting quietly in her room, flinched at the sound, her hands clutched tightly around the edge of her blanket. The noise was unsettling to her — she wasn’t used to hearing River cry, and the way he cried felt like a new presence in the house. She had imagined it would be a joyful sound, but it was overwhelming.
Lando came in, sensing her discomfort. “Hey, Soph, you okay?” he asked softly, sitting beside her on the bed. “I know the crying is tough, but we just have to be patient. He’s still getting used to everything too.”
Sophie nodded, her lip trembling slightly. “I don’t like it,” she admitted in a small voice. “It’s so loud. It makes it feel like he needs all the attention.”
Lando hugged her tightly, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. “I know, honey. But remember, this is new for all of us. River’s going to cry sometimes, but it doesn’t mean he loves you any less. We all have to learn how to share the attention, but that doesn’t change how important you are.”
Still, that didn't change how Sophie felt.
When you fed River, or when he cried and you rushed to pick him up, Sophie’s lips would tremble, and she would retreat to her corner of the room, watching from a distance. She wasn’t sure what she was feeling — part of her wanted to be the center of attention again, to be the one you focused on, the one you cared for. But another part of her, deep down, felt a sense of protectiveness over the baby, just like you did. She didn’t understand how she could balance both feelings. She wanted to be the big sister, but she wasn’t sure how to fit into this new dynamic, especially when it seemed like River needed so much of your time.
Later, when Lando found her sitting on the couch in the living room, clutching her stuffed bunny tightly against her chest, he could immediately tell something was off. Her eyes were distant, sad. Her little hands gripped the bunny as though it was the only thing grounding her, and Lando's heart ached when he saw the sadness in her eyes.
He sat down beside her, careful not to startle her, and gently placed his hand on her shoulder. “Hey, Soph,” he said softly, his voice filled with concern. “What’s going on, sweetheart? You’ve been quiet for a few days now.”
Sophie sniffled, her face full of uncertainty, her big, vulnerable eyes searching her father’s face for reassurance. "I’m still your little girl, right?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper, trembling with raw emotion. Her words hung in the air, heavy with the fear that she might be losing something irreplaceable. "I don’t want him to take you away from me."
Lando’s heart shattered as he saw the pain in her eyes, the way her little voice quivered, the tremor of her insecurity. Without thinking, he scooped her up onto his lap, pulling her into the safest place he knew — his arms. His chest rose and fell with each steady breath, a silent promise to always protect her. He pressed a gentle kiss to the top of her head, his voice thick with love. “Oh, sweetheart,” he whispered his words a soft balm to her wounded heart. “You’ll always be my little girl. Nothing, nothing will ever change that.”
Sophie buried her face into his chest, her small hands fidgeting with the edge of his shirt, as if trying to hold on to the familiar comfort of him. She could feel his warmth surrounding her, the steady beat of his heart beneath her ear, but her worries were still there, gnawing at her. “But you’re always with him now,” she murmured, the words coming out in a rush, full of quiet hurt. “You’re always with River… and I’m not the only one anymore.”
Lando’s heart ached with a tenderness he couldn’t quite put into words. His hand gently cupped her cheek, lifting her face so she could meet his gaze. His eyes were filled with a depth of love only a father could know, the kind that transcended everything else. “You know, Sophie,” he said softly, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face, “when I’m with him, I’m always thinking of you too. You’re my first little girl. You made me a dad. You taught me how to love in a way I never knew was possible. Just because I’m taking care of him, it doesn’t mean I love you any less. It doesn’t mean anything has changed. You will always, always be special to me. You are my heart, Soph.”
Sophie’s small body relaxed against him, and she closed her eyes, as if she could finally allow herself to believe his words. She nodded slowly, but deep down, there was a flicker of uncertainty still lingering. This new chapter of their lives was still so fresh, so overwhelming. Her heart wanted to believe him, but it was hard to share the love she had always had all to herself with River. She didn’t know how to navigate this new balance, how to accept that the love she had for her parents wasn’t being spread thinner, but instead multiplied in ways she was still learning to understand.
Lando could feel her tension, the subtle shift in her breathing, and he tightened his hold on her. “I’m not going anywhere, Sophie,” he whispered, his voice full of conviction, steady like a rock. “You’ll always be my girl. I’m here for you, and I always will be.”
Sophie buried her face deeper into his chest, seeking the comfort of his embrace, the steady rhythm of his heartbeat as a reminder that, no matter what, she was loved. She felt the warmth of his words, the reassurance in his arms, and for the first time in days, a sense of peace began to wash over her. “I love you, Daddy,” she whispered, her voice muffled by his shirt but full of the pure, unconditional love only a child could give.
“I love you too, baby,” he replied, his voice thick with emotion, holding her just a little tighter. “And that will never, ever change.”
As they sat together in the quiet of the night, the weight of Sophie’s worries slowly beginning to fade, she knew deep down that she was still their girl. She always would be. There was no space between them, no shift in the love they had for her. River would never take her place. She was the first, the one who made Lando a father, the one who had opened his heart in ways he didn’t know were possible. Nothing — not time, not change, not new additions to their family — could take away her special place in their hearts.
Sophie looked up at her dad, her eyes still filled with a little bit of doubt, but there was a glimmer of hope now. “You promise?” she asked softly, her voice small but filled with the trust only a child could have.
Lando pressed a kiss to her forehead, his arms around her so tight that she could feel the warmth of his love seep into her very soul. “I promise, sweetheart. I promise, no matter what comes, you’ll always be my girl. And I’ll always be here for you.”
And as Sophie leaned into her father’s chest, the gentle rise and fall of his heartbeat lulling her into comfort, she believed him. Deep in her heart, she knew that even though things were changing, their bond was unbreakable. It was stronger than anything else — a love that would always hold her, no matter what.
In the days that followed, Sophie began to find her place as the big sister, slowly but surely. She still had moments of uncertainty, moments where she felt unsure about how much space River would take up in the family. But with each passing day, her love for him grew. She began to bond with him in small ways that were becoming so meaningful. Every time she sang him a lullaby, her soft voice would fill the room, and she would giggle whenever River cooed in response, a spark of joy lighting up her face. There was something magical about those moments for Sophie, something that made her feel proud of her role as his sister, even when it wasn’t always easy.
One afternoon, you were sitting in the living room with River in your arms. He was peacefully nestled against your chest, his tiny hands twitching every so often, and you were soaking in the quiet bliss of motherhood, when Sophie came running into the room, her feet light with excitement. Her face was bright, her eyes gleaming with anticipation. She clutched a piece of paper in her small hands, almost as if it were the most precious thing in the world. She stopped in front of you and held it up proudly, her smile wide and full of purpose.
“Look, Mommy! I made this for him!” Sophie said, her voice soft but filled with quiet pride, the effort she’d put into the drawing evident in her flushed cheeks.
You reached out, taking the paper from her hands as she held it up, your heart swelling. The drawing was simple — a picture of your family, each of you surrounded by hearts, but there was something so pure and sincere about it. Sophie had drawn you, Lando, herself, and the baby. When she got to River, however, she had added a much larger heart around him, almost as if she was already claiming him, already protecting him in her own way.
“This is so beautiful, sweetheart,” you said, your voice thick with emotion as you gazed at the drawing. “He’s going to love it when he’s big enough to see it.”
Sophie’s eyes shone with pride, her small fingers tugging at the hem of her shirt, but there was a nervousness beneath it all, a vulnerability she hadn’t yet learned to hide. “I wanted him to know he’s special,” she explained softly, as if there was no doubt in her mind that her brother would be able to feel the love she had for him, even if he couldn’t understand it just yet.
Lando, who had been sitting beside you, looked over at you with a soft, affectionate smile. His heart seemed to swell with pride as he watched Sophie, the love he felt for both her and River so evident in his eyes. The uncertainty that had once clouded Sophie’s face had been replaced with something much more familiar — a deep sense of belonging. “You’re doing an amazing job, baby girl,” he said softly, his hand brushing a strand of hair from Sophie’s face. “River’s lucky to have you as his big sister.”
Sophie beamed, her face glowing with the pride of someone who was beginning to truly understand the weight and beauty of her new role. But there was still a small thread of self-doubt that lingered, something you could see behind her sparkling eyes. “I know he is,” she said, a little shy but with a fierce determination in her voice. “I’m gonna protect him. I’ll always keep him safe.”
The tenderness in Sophie’s words made your heart ache with love, and you shared a glance with Lando, a quiet understanding passing between the two of you. The uncertainty that had once filled Sophie’s days — the doubt that had come with becoming a big sister — was starting to fade, replaced by a bond that was growing stronger with each day. She wasn’t just protecting River; she was embracing him with all her heart.
You gently hugged Sophie to you, holding her close as you glanced down at River in your arms. He was blissfully unaware of the drawing, of Sophie’s promises, but you knew that someday, he would understand. He would see how much his big sister already loved him. “I’m so proud of you, Soph,” you said, your voice thick with emotion. “You’re doing such a good job, sweetheart. You’re making this so easy for all of us.”
Sophie’s eyes sparkled as she looked at her baby brother, who was just beginning to stir in your arms. Her voice was soft, but there was a quiet resolve in it. “I’ll always be there for him,” she said, her small hand reaching out to gently touch River’s tiny fingers, as if to reinforce her promise to him. “Even when he’s older, I’ll be there.”
You kissed the top of her head, overwhelmed by the depth of her love, the way she was already stepping into this new role with grace and affection. The bond between Sophie and River was growing every day, even if it wasn’t always easy to see. It was a slow process, but it was happening, one small gesture at a time. And no matter what challenges lay ahead, Sophie was proving that she was ready. She was the big sister, and her love for River was unconditional.
As the days turned into weeks, Sophie continued to help with River’s care — handing you diapers, fetching clean clothes, and sometimes even trying to soothe him when he cried. One morning, you were in the kitchen, and River began to fuss. Before you could get to him, Sophie was already there, sitting beside his bassinet, softly cooing at him as she tried to calm him down. It wasn’t always perfect, but she was trying, and the tenderness with which she held him made your heart swell.
She looked up at you with a smile, a little unsure of herself. “He’s okay, right? I’m doing it right?”
You couldn’t help but laugh softly, walking over to her and resting a hand on her shoulder. “You’re doing more than right, sweetheart. You’re doing amazing.”
Sophie’s smile widened, her cheeks flushed with happiness, as she looked down at River, who had finally quieted, his small hands resting gently against his blanket. “I’m his big sister now,” she whispered, as if the weight of the words was just beginning to sink in.
Lando, who had been standing in the doorway, leaned in and kissed the top of her head. “And you’ll always be his protector. You’re doing great, Soph.”
Sophie looked back at her little brother, her heart full of love and pride. It wasn’t always easy. There were still moments when she would feel a little lost or a little jealous, moments when River’s cries felt like a reminder of how things had changed. But in this moment, as she sat beside him, the bond they shared — that invisible thread of love between siblings — was stronger than ever. And Sophie, no matter what, would always be your girl — the one who had made you a mom, the one who had given you hope in the midst of chaos, and the one who would always, always love her baby brother.

You weren't there... again.
Your absence from your usual seat to the left of Eddie leaves him in a deep state of confusion his eyebrows furrowing in thought. This was the fifth day without your presence at his side, almost an entire week without your voice giddily telling him about the book you were reading or a new recipe you've tried, almost an entire week of being deprived of that perfect little gleam in your eyes when you looked at him rambling about something you enjoyed, and his heart ached in deprivation.
And because of this, he could with full confidence say you were avoiding him- but as to why he had no idea.
Eddie's silent at the lunch table staring at nothing in particular, and though the guys -especially the freshman- had finally learned to normalize Eddie's peculiar-ness and oddities this new silence and bleak aura had them surprised. He was stuck in his head racking through everything that's happened in the last week that could have possibly scared you away from him.
He thinks about the time he asked you for help with his math homework, but that couldn't be it considering that definitely was not the first time he'd asked and definitely was not the first time you'd happily agreed to do so. He reminisces about when he'd come to visit you during your shift at the local library in boredom playfully bothering you as you re-placed books onto the shelf.
He thinks and thinks and thinks but nothing comes to mind for your sudden evasion.
"Dude, you think any harder and steam will come out of your ears," Gareth rolls his eyes at Eddie, "What the hell's wrong with you anyway?"
Eddie leans back in his chair and dramatically throws his head back to look at the ceiling, his hair flows behind him and moves as people walk by, "She's avoiding me."
Dustin's head snaps up, still chewing his food he inserts himself into the conversation, "Who? Y/N? I just talked to her last period, she seemed fine," He shrugged.
At that Eddies head pops back up, eyes locking with Dustin's in a way that leaves the younger boy cringing, and the crease between his brows intensifies, "So she's still talking to you guys but not me?" He starts to pout a little by the end of his question.
Everyone sends looks to each other before slowly nodding and Eddie's forehead loudly makes contact with the cafeteria table, the guys wince in response.
"Well... have you tried- I don't know, asking her about it?"
The glare sent in Mikes direction after his question almost makes him apologize. Eddie heatedly scratches his head and groans in irritation; he'd tried more than a handful of times to get ahold of you, tried more than enough times to just hear your voice again but nothing worked. When he waited by your locker you would walk the other way, when he called you, you hung up as soon as you heard his voice, and worst of all you would throw out the little notes he sent you in class as you walked out and away from him once again.
"Duh! Of course I have," Eddies reply is laced with annoyance and frustration, "But I can't ask her anything if she keeps running away- I mean come on! She won't even look at me, man." His voice is soft and emotional when speaking his last sentence, He runs his hand over his face weakly and suddenly he feels like he's being pitied. He doesn't want that.
He hastily moves to pick up his things, thrusting the items into his little lunch box with more force than necessary with a pout on his tired face before standing from his seat and angrily walking away across the cafeteria, from the table and the others. They all sigh when he makes it past the cafeteria doors and after a silent moment Jeff is the first who speaks up, "So- When do you guys think they'll get over themselves and finally get together?"
《----------♡
When the last bell rings after what feels like years to Eddie he's swiftly making his way out of class and out of the building, but now what time would usually be spent merrily walking to his car and making plans to see you during the weekend was spent instead making his way into the woods strolling past trees and going to the little picnic table placed in that clearing he visits every once in awhile.
He stares at the ground and his feet as he treads, kicking rocks, stones, and branches on the way.
Eddies just about there just a few trees away from the clearing before he hears footsteps other than his own a little ways ahead of him he pauses head finally lifting to look in front of him and waits to see who appears.
To his surprise you pop into his vision and his round, brown eyes widen. He goes to take a step forward his body automatically and urgently trying to get to you, desperately needing to be near the drug that is you, but he stops himself to observe.
You sit at the table and pull a book out from the satchel bag at your side and a humorous huff leaves through his nose, his face relaxing and lips curling up at the sight of you doing something you often enthusiastically spoke to him about before realizing that its a book he does not recognize, that you had started a new one, and you hadn't told him like you usually would have. The thought wipes the smile from his face in an instant and his brows furrow for the nth time that day.
He steps forward and does not stop himself this time, sauntering toward you almost as angrily has he had left the cafeteria without your knowledge as you are already too engrossed in whatever new story you were traveling into. When he sits across from you at the table you feel it shift with the added weight and at last realize that you are no longer alone.
When you eventually look up, placing your thumb in-between the pages you were reading to keep your place, your heart drops at the sight of the frustrated man in front of you. You try to move away but he quickly grabs your wrist urging you to sit back down, you look at him again and the anguish written on his face makes you find your seat.
Your gaze moves to your lap and Eddie doesn't let you go too afraid you run away again.
Eddie is the one to break the stifling silence, "Talk to me... please?" The sound of his voice makes your heart ache so guiltily it hurts, "Just- Just tell what I did wrong- tell me so I can fix it."
Though your mouth opens to respond nothing comes out and your eyes gloss over with salty tears. Eddie's hold on your wrist moves to your hand gently cupping it in his calloused palm while his thumb moves to continuously swipe over your warm skin.
Your cheeks warm at the intimate contact and it only makes your eyes well with my tears reminding you of why you were ignoring him in the first place.
"When you-," You struggle to get the words out of your closing throat but Eddie still listens patiently, "Last time... you- you did something. It wasn't a big deal to you- but um... to me it- it meant a lot and that's kind of the problem."
The brunette across from you leans in closer and tilts his head in confusion, "What did I do?"
You glance to the side in embarrassment but Eddie's thumb taps you twice to bring your attention back to the conversation, "Talk to me Princess; Tell me what I did so we can go back to normal, I miss my best friend."
You didn't want to go back to normal.
For the first time in days your eyes connect with Eddie's and you take in a shaky breath at the sight of his enchanting eyes. "You uh- you kissed me..."
Now he's confused. He had kissed you? When? He's sure he would remember finally getting to kiss you.
Your free hand travels to your cheek and it all clicks for him, the pieces falling into place. He can't help but let out a chuckle of amusement; you were right- he had kissed you, kissed you on your cheek, that is, a sweet little peck against your skin. His laughter dies out when you rip your hand from his, the tears in your eyes spilling over.
Eddie stands and rounds the table to you, "Hey hey I- I'm I shouldn't have laughed. Don't cry, sweetheart." His hands place themselves on your elbows as your hands move to cover your face. He starts to feel like that little kiss really did more than he had thought.
"Did it make you uncomfortable? I won't do it again I promise," You shake your head at his words, "Talk to me, baby."
"Don't do that! Don't call me those names if you don't mean it," Eddies eyes go wide at your outburst and his mouth opens to speak but you beat him to it, "you- you kiss me and call me those names and I- It's just too much... I like you too much."
All too quickly Eddie is forcefully removing your hands from your face and cupping your cheeks thumbing the tears from your skin, "I like you too much too."
"Don't be mean Eddie."
He connects his forehand to yours, both of your eyes closing at the closeness, "M'not, would never joke about that." His soft pink lips brush gently against yours as he speaks and your breath hitches. Your lips part slightly and your cold breath fans Eddie's face. "How can I show you I mean it hm? How 'bout... a real kiss?" He mutters. You nod all too briskly for someone who was just crying and it makes Eddie smile.
In the fullness of time Eddie presses his lips to yours and when he finally gets the taste of your lips on his he realizes he's waited entirely too long to do this despite being willing to wait an eternity for you. He's been starving for the absolute goddess that is you, now getting to satisfy that hunger digging in with no resistance and sliding his tongue past your lips flushed against him. The ache he had felt without you there fading once and for all as you kissed him back. Your hands atop his squeeze as a noise escapes the back of your throat and Eddie kisses you deeper at your audible reaction. He wants to consume you, wants to keep you so close you never leave his side, he needs it- needs you and makes sure it shows in the way he kisses you.
When he pulls away your both panting for air, Eddie's grin is smug on the top of your head and your arms are wrapped around him.
"I can't believe you made me feel like shit for an entire week just cause I gave you a lil' kiss on the cheek," Eddie mocked trying to get a quick quip in.
"Shut up! It totally freaked me out."
His loud cackle echoed in your ears and you smiled, pulling him closer and pressing your nose into his skin. Eddie's arms moved to wrap around you as well and his large hands snake around you also trying to squeeze you impossibly closer. He presses a fast peck on your cheek, then your temple, and then the top of your head. Eddie takes a deep breath inhaling the scent of you- memorizing it.
"Promise you won't do that to me again. Don't leave me alone like that again."
"I won't Eds, I promise."
"Besides! What are you going to do without me here being oh so entertaining huh?"
You laugh, "I have no idea."

You couldn’t breathe.
It wasn’t just the bodysuit—though it clung too tightly to your ribs—but the panic.
The cold, creeping panic of being back. The fear you thought you'd buried, the ghosts you thought you'd left behind—they were all clawing their way back to the surface.
How unlucky were you, really? To be given a second round of memories. A cruel encore.
"Breathe. Breathe. Breathe." The words barely made it past your lips, more breath than voice, a desperate mantra as you stepped into the Chariot Staging Area.
You just needed to find Haymitch.
If you could hear his voice, meet his eyes, feel his presence—maybe then the terror would loosen its grip. Maybe then you could breathe.
“You look stunning!” your stylist chirped, smoothing your hair and flicking back a few stubborn flyaways. Her hands were quick, practiced, and utterly unaware of the storm brewing inside you.
You were dressed in a sleek black bodysuit, tailored like a second skin. Woven into the fabric were delicate fiber-optic threads that pulsed in slow, elegant waves, mimicking lightning bolts across your body. A walking storm.
“This beautiful number responds to movement,” she said proudly. “The lights will shift and pulse with every gesture. I’ll be operating the pattern controls—you just need to wave and look pretty.”
You nodded absently, your attention already drifting, eyes scanning the room like sonar.
You needed to find him.
“Little bird looking for me?” You turned, and there he was—Gloss, standing with that signature smirk, arms crossed like he owned the room.
“You look breathtaking,” he said, eyeing the suit with an appreciative nod. “I swear, you’ve got enough power in you to light up all of Panem.”
A genuine laugh escaped you, small but real, and you stepped forward to pull him into a hug. “Flattery will get you nowhere,” you said, voice lighter. “But it’s good to see you, Glossy. Where’s Cash?”
“Here I am!” a familiar voice called.
You turned to see Cash striding over, flanked by Enobaria and Brutus. A wave of warmth surged through your chest. You moved quickly, gathering them all into a hug.
These weren’t just allies. These were your people. Friends who understood the weight behind your eyes. The ache in your chest. The blood on your hands. Because they were the exact same way. As broken as you were.
Once, when you were young, it seemed impossible to be asked to kill strangers. And now? Now you were being asked to kill your friends.
“How are you all?” you asked, voice soft. “I’m sorry I missed the last hangout. I had food poisoning. And I’m even sorrier that this is how we’re seeing each other again.”
You gave them a sad smile. The kind that meant more than words ever could.
“This was definitely a turn of events,” Enobaria muttered, rolling her eyes.
“Never thought I’d have to set foot back here as a tribute,” Cash added, shaking her head.
Everyone nodded grimly. You all had the same unspoken thought: peace was promised. And then peace was stolen.
Brutus looked across the room, tipping his chin toward the group. “So? Should we expect you and Mason to join us?” You raised an eyebrow. He went on.“I doubt we’ll offer that to District 4. I love Mags, but this isn’t about friendship. It’s about survival. Or are you planning to side with the newbies for your husband’s sake?”
You met his gaze, firm and unflinching. “You already know the answer to that, Brutus. Those kids? They’re basically his. Which means… they’re mine, too.”
Enobaria let out a slow sigh, stepping closer. “Just don’t put their lives above your own. And don’t forget about Mason. You have to think about him. Plust those kids…” Her next words hit harder than you were ready for. “--they’re the reason we’re here. If just one of them had died... we wouldn’t be back in this arena and we all know it. And look at us we’re stuck here once again and now we have to kill each other.”
The silence was immediate and suffocating.
No one spoke.
Because she wasn’t wrong.
It was the truth everyone avoided speaking out loud—but now that it hung in the air, you all had to face it.
Bitterness curled in your stomach, uninvited but undeniable. You hated feeling it. Hated that it made sense.
“Hey,” Cash cut in sharply, eyes narrowing at Enobaria. “Stop. Whatever happens, happens. We keep it fast. We keep it painless. Right?”
Everyone nodded. Even Enobaria.
Then Cash turned to you, her voice lowering.
“I would really love for District 5 to join us,” she said. “We love you. And we love Mason. But I get it. You’re looking out for your husband. That’s not cowardice—that’s loyalty. It’s love. Just… if anything changes, you’re always welcome here.”
She gave you a tight hug and stepped away. Gloss winked and followed. Enobaria gave you a rare side hug. Brutus patted your shoulder, rough and sincere, before the group slipped into the crowd.
And then you were alone again. Not alone in the room—but alone in the way that mattered.
Your eyes scanned once more, heart pounding harder now.
For him.
And then you saw her—Katniss. Standing with Peeta. Not speaking. Not blinking. Just... watching.
You hadn’t spoken yet. You and Haymitch had always kept your relationship quiet, tucked away where the Capitol couldn't twist it. Mentors by day. Lovers by night. The other victors knew. Your families knew. But to the Capitol?
It had to stay hidden.
Some things were too sacred to put on display.
Last night had nearly shattered that wall. You’d broken down behind a closed door, only to feel their eyes on you through the crack—Katniss, Peeta, and even Effie.
But Haymitch had pulled you away, shielding you from their stares. From their pity.
And now, Katniss was watching again.
You met her gaze, steady and calm, and offered a soft smile. A small nod.
She mattered. They both did.
You needed her to trust you.
Because Haymitch did. And you saw it—how he cared for them. The soft way he spoke to them. The cracks in his armor, carefully hidden but real. He was letting himself feel again.
He was learning to love. Openly. Fiercely. Just like you had always wished he would. And because of that, you would do whatever it took to protect them. By your life… or by your death.
Katniss gave you the smallest of nods. Then turned away.
You exhaled—slowly, shakily.
A small victory.
Maybe the only kind left.
A warm hand caught your arm. Mason.
“You ready for this?” he asked, helping you up into the carriage.
You nodded. “Smile and wave,” you said softly.
The chariots began to roll and the sound hit like thunder. A roar of applause, cheers, screams. Your lungs tightened. The noise pressed in from every side. Your hands trembled. Sweat gathered along your brow. You felt like you were drowning in the sound.
Mason’s grip on your hand tightened. He could feel your fear. But he wasn’t the one you needed.
You needed Haymitch.
His voice. His eyes. His strength.
You scanned the audience, heart hammering wildly. Too many faces. Too much light. Too much noise.
And then—there.
You found him.
He stood behind the others, half-hidden, quiet as always. But his eyes were on you.
Only you.
You felt your shoulders drop. Your breath returned. You smiled softly
And he winked.
Just like that, the panic loosened. The thunder of the Capitol became background noise. The trembling in your fingers eased.
You could do this.
You could finish the parade.
Because he saw you. Because he was there.
And that was enough.
*******
You hated looking at yourself in the mirror. You always had. Especially after the Games.
Back then, at sixteen, you’d stare at your reflection and search for something—someone—you recognized. But all you ever saw were the eyes of the people you killed, their final moments etched behind your own.
You didn’t see a girl. You didn’t see a victor. You saw a murderer.
And now, nearly a decade later, here you were—twenty-five years old, staring into the same damn mirror, in the same damn room, waiting to face the same horrors.
Except this time, you weren’t naïve enough to believe you’d make it out.
You knew the moment you volunteered.
This was your end.
A knock at the door snapped you out of your thoughts. “Darling, we need to go,” Mason’s voice called gently from the hall. “We need all the training we can get.”
You looked at yourself one last time.
A murderer. A lunatic. A dead man walking.
You blinked away the tears, jaw tightening. Then you tied your ponytail higher—tighter—like it might hold you together a little longer.
You stepped out to meet Mason.
“You okay?” he asked, his voice laced with that familiar worry. He always worried. Especially about you. You were the little sister he never had—and now the two of you were walking into hell all over again.
“Well enough,” you replied, offering him a small smile that didn’t reach your eyes. “But it’s fine.”
He didn’t believe you. But he nodded.
You were grateful, at least, that you’d never really stopped training after your Games. You were constantly on edge, and staying active had become your only way to keep the nightmares at bay. The gym had always felt more familiar than your own home.
The Training Center was exactly how you remembered it: the scent of metal, sweat, and Capitol sterilization. Clean and gleaming, like death dressed up in a ballgown. Everything here looked expensive. Perfect. Soulless.
You and Mason stood shoulder to shoulder on the rising platform. The doors opened, revealing the training floor—wide, cold, and humming with tension.
Tributes filled the space, moving like restless ghosts. Silent, watchful, already assessing one another like it was the arena.
You tensed immediately. The smell. The sound. The weight in the air. It all pulled you backward, to the first time. The fear. The blood. The moment everything changed.
You scanned the floor, searching for him. For Haymitch.
But he wasn’t here.
Mason nudged you gently. “He’s probably hungover. He’ll be down in a minute.”
You nodded, but your mind was still spinning. You didn’t want to be here. Not really. You didn’t want to spar or strategize or throw knives at holograms. You wanted to find Haymitch. You wanted to hold his hand and talk about nothing. You wanted to remember what it felt like to be alive before the arena took everything again.
But the odds were never in your favor.
“I say we stick with the Careers,” Mason murmured, arms crossed over his chest as he nodded toward the familiar pack from Districts 1, 2, and 4. “They’ve got numbers. They’re predictable. We know how they move, how they think. We get in, stay close, bail when it gets ugly. And hey—if we do die, at least it'll be quick and painless.”
You didn’t respond immediately.
Your eyes drifted across the floor, landing on Katniss and Peeta as they entered the room. Their posture was stiff. Guarded. Haymitch still nowhere in sight.
You sighed. “We can’t.”
Mason’s brow furrowed. “We can’t what?”
“We can’t team up with the Careers.”
You turned to him fully, voice steady, even as your heart pounded. “We need to stick with District 12. With them.”
He stared at you like you’d lost your mind. “Are you serious? Y/N, come on. They’re kids. They won out of dumb luck.”
You met his stare. “We all won out of luck.”
“You know what I mean.” He stepped closer, frustration simmering just beneath the surface. “Everyone here won. They’re strong. Dangerous. But you want to team up with the wide-eyed girl and her boy toy? Compared to the Careers? Darling, please.”
“I’m not asking you,” you said quietly. The edge in your voice cut sharper than you meant it to. “I’m telling you. I’m staying with them. You can make your own call.”
There was a pause. Not anger—just tension. Thick with history. With grief.
Mason’s jaw clenched. “This isn’t like last time, Y/N. This isn’t your Games. This isn’t about heart or honor or—whatever the hell you and Haymitch have going on now. This is survival.”
You looked him straight in the eye. “Exactly. And it’s their survival I’m fighting for.”
His voice dropped. “And what about you?”
You hesitated, but he caught it. Your silence was louder than any answer.
“Look,” you began, softer now, “I’m not asking you to follow me—”
But he cut you off, stepping closer.
“You don’t have to! We’re partners. I’m sticking by you. I always have.” His voice cracked, just slightly. “I just want you to think. Really think, before you throw yourself into a losing bet. There’s a smarter play here. You know that.”
“I do,” you said. “But sometimes the smart play isn’t the right one.”
He exhaled harshly and scrubbed a hand over his face. “You want to help Haymitch. I get that. I do. But we both know it was luck that those two made it out. Pure, stupid luck. But you. You can win. You can make it back to your family. I’ll help you get there.”
You were about to say something to Mason—something half-formed and already losing shape in your mouth—when you heard his voice.
“Y/N! Mason!”
Your head turned faster than your heart could catch up. And there he was.
Your husband.
That familiar flutter of your heart. Like it always did. You hadn’t seen him in a day? But even now, with him just a few feet away, it felt like a lifetime had passed. You missed him deeply.
Trailing behind him were Katniss and Peeta.
“I want to formally introduce you to my victors,” Haymitch said, stopping in front of you. “Katniss and Peeta. Guys, this is Y/N and Mason. District 5.”
“Hey,” Mason said, flashing that strained, too-polished smile he always wore around new people. He gave your shoulder a quick pat. “I’m gonna go see what Gloss and Brutus are up to. Grab me when you’re done.”
Then he leaned in, low enough for only you to hear. “Please… think about what I said.”
You nodded, not trusting your voice. He gave you a look—worried, conflicted—and walked off.
You turned back to the trio.“Sorry about him,” you said with a soft exhale. “He’s… under pressure…but aren’t we all?”
Your gaze lingered on Haymitch for half a second longer than it should’ve. You didn’t need to explain more. He already knew.
Then you looked at Katniss and Peeta, offered a small smile, and reached out your hand. “I’m Y/N. I’ve heard a lot about you both. What you did—how you handled everything—it was impressive.”
Peeta was the first to move. His handshake was firm, warm. His eyes kind. “It’s good to meet you. We, uh… we watched your Games last night.” He hesitated, then smiled a little. “You were incredible. And also… slightly terrifying.”
You actually laughed. “Don’t worry,” you said. “If things go well, you won’t have to be scared of me.”
Haymitch cleared his throat, arms crossed, already watching the storm gather in Katniss’s face. “I was telling them you and Mason would be good allies. They seemed open to it.”
Katniss turned sharply toward him. “No, we didn’t.”
You blinked, trying to keep your expression neutral, but her words stung.
She folded her arms, looking you up and down like she was trying to see beneath your skin. “How are we supposed to trust you if you’re still with him? He clearly wants nothing to do with us.”
Your voice was quiet but steady. “I can handle Mason. He’ll follow my lead. He won’t be a threat.”
“Yeah, well,” she said, turning away, “I don’t trust you either.” And just like that, she was gone. Peeta followed, his face apologetic but silent.
You stood there for a beat too long, your hand still halfway raised before you let it fall.
Haymitch ran a hand down his face. “She’s scared,” he muttered. “She’s trying to protect him. She’s paranoid—on edge.”
You shook your head, arms wrapping around your chest like armor. “I get it. I really do. But if she won’t trust me, Mason’s going to dig in even harder. He’s already eyeing the Careers, and they really want us. They’re not taking District 4.”
Haymitch glanced toward where Mason was sparring with Brutus, the clang of metal echoing through the air like thunder. He winced.
“You thinking of going with them?”
You turned back to him slowly, locking eyes. “You really asking me that?”
Silence.
“I’m here,” you said. “With Twelve. With you. That’s not changing.”
He nodded, but you could see it—the guilt. The weight of what he was asking from you. Of what he couldn’t promise in return.
“I’ll talk to her,” he said finally. “I’ll get her to see reason. But you’ve gotta keep Mason from jumping ship. We don’t win this if he flips.”
You followed his gaze. Mason was grinning now, laughing at something Brutus said. “He can go if he wants,” you said quietly. “I told him. But my alliance is here. I made that choice.”
For you. You didn’t say it out loud. But Haymitch knew.
The noise of training continued around you—grunts, shouts, weapons clashing—but for a second, it all felt muffled. The pressure building behind your ribs was harder to ignore by the minute.
You looked at Haymitch again and tried not to let the fear show. But he saw it. He always saw it.
And that was part of what made this so unbearable.
“How are you feeling?”  He asks the question softly, like it’s the only one that matters. You know his eyes are tracing the lines of your face, trying to read the answer that you’re not saying out loud. The panic attack you’d had with him still lingers in his mind — a tightness in his chest he can’t shake. He’s scared, just like you are. The separation, even this small distance between you, feels like a raw wound. Every second without you feels like it’s eating at him from the inside out.
You shrug, doing your best to sound nonchalant. “I’m fine enough. Haven’t had another panic attack... yet. But it gets close sometimes.” You try to offer a half-smile, but it’s hollow. You can feel it — the weight of everything about to happen. And it’s suffocating.
His fingers twitch, almost as if he’s reaching for you before realizing he can’t. The frustration is written all over him. He needs to touch you. Needs to hold you, but everything feels like it’s out of his reach.
“You’ve only got a few days left until—” He doesn’t finish. He doesn’t need to. You both know what’s coming. The suffocating fear. The arena. The uncertainty. But for a second, you don’t want to hear it. Not from him.
“I walk into my death?” You let out a shaky laugh, trying to break the tension with humor that doesn’t quite land. “I promise to make it as epic as possible.”
You turn to look at him, but his eyes are hard, like he’s trying to hold it all together, and he doesn’t like what you’re saying.
“What?” you ask, but you already know.
“Don’t say that.” His voice is low, urgent. His brow furrows as he steps closer, his gaze sharp. “Never say that.”
Your heart stutters in your chest, a dull pain spreading through you. “I’m sorry.” The words fall out before you can stop them, but it feels too late to take them back.
“I need you out of that arena.” His voice is raw, like it’s the one thing he can cling to. “I don’t know what I’d do if you don’t.”
You know that’s the truth. You can see it in his eyes, that quiet desperation. He’s already lost so much. He can’t lose you too. But you’re not sure how to make him understand that you’ve already made peace with the reality.
You turn your body toward him, not daring to reach out because of the eyes on you both. But this — this moment — this conversation, it’s just between the two of you. You need him to see you, to know you’re still there, even when it feels like everything is about to come crashing down.
“Haymitch,” your voice is softer now, the lump in your throat growing. “We’re going to be fine. No matter what happens, okay? In sickness and in health. In better or for worse. Death won’t do us part.” Your breath hitches, and you try to hold back the tears, but they spill anyway. “I love you more than you’ll ever know.”
There’s a tremor in his eyes, like he’s holding something back. But it’s his voice that cracks this time, just a little. “And I love you,” he says, his words lingering between you both. “Which is why I don’t like that you sound so defeated.” His voice is a whisper now, almost lost in the space between you.
It’s true. He’s only seen you three times. And all those times, you’ve looked at him like you’ve already accepted your fate. And that’s the part he can’t handle. The part that tears at him in a way he’ll never be able to explain.
“It’s not defeat.” Your voice is stronger now, though it still trembles. “I’ve accepted it. I won’t be as lucky as I was the first time around. And honestly, I don’t think I want to be. Not with them.” You gesture to the others around you — the tributes who would be in the arena with you. “And definitely not if it’s against your kids.”
He bristles at the mention of them, his expression hardening in that way you’ve come to know well. “They’re not my kids.” His tone is sharp, defensive.
You roll your eyes, though the sadness creeps back in. “You’re letting them into your heart, and that’s all I’ve ever wanted for you.” You smile, but it’s bittersweet. “It’s such an honor seeing the light shine back into your eyes.”
His gaze softens, but his voice drops, rough and honest. “I’ve had light from the moment we kissed. You are my light. And that’s why I need you to stop talking like you’ve already lost.” He steps closer, his hand hovering like he wants to touch you but is afraid to. His breath is ragged. “The Abernathy’s don’t give up.” He’s trying, trying so hard to convince you both. But the truth is, you’ve already decided.
“They don’t.” You nod, a small smile tugging at your lips. “And that’s why, whatever happens, I’m going to need you to remember that.”
How could you still try to take care of him when you were the one who needed the comfort? You were supposed to be the one being held, not the other way around. But he was still trying to do it — trying to take care of you in whatever broken way he could.
“I’ll figure something out,” he says, his eyes burning with determination. “Trust me, okay? I’ll figure something out. And both you and the kids... you’ll be okay. I’ll make sure of it.” He reaches for your hand quickly, squeezing it tight. You can feel the heat of his palm, the raw, frantic pulse beneath his skin. His eyes meet yours for just a second, and he gives you a wink, a shaky attempt at something like normal. “Now, I have to go find where that girl ran off to. I swear, she’s becoming more of a pain in my ass this time around. And Peeta’s following her like a lost puppy.”
You chuckle softly, the sound breaking the tension between you both. “But you love them.” You smile up at him.
He shakes his head, his smile small but real. “But I love you more.”
And in that moment, you know he means it. Even if you’re both standing on the edge of an abyss. Even if you don’t know how you’ll survive the next few days, or if you’ll survive at all. Haymitch’s love is the only thing in this world that feels like it might be enough to hold you together.
But you can’t say that. You can’t say anything. Because the truth is, you’re terrified.
And you’re not sure you can be brave enough for both of you.

“You’re staring… again.”
Nancy says under her breath, which has your eyes immediately darting away and back down toward your lunch out of sheer embarrassment.
“I was not staring….” you hiss, picking at the pile of peas on your tray.
“Oh, you soooo were,” she laughs, knocking her shoulder into yours. “Why don’t you just go and talk to him?”
You let out an exasperated breath before glancing over at your best friend. She’s giving you that soft yet encouraging gaze that’s entirely Nancy.
“Why would someone like him be interested in someone like me?”
Your voice is softer, but that underlying fear bleeds through nonetheless.
“I’m just so….” you trail off, chewing on your lower lip. “Boring.”
Your eyes have drifted back over to the hellfire table, where they seem to find themselves almost every lunch period now. Totally entranced by the male sitting at the end of the table.
Eddie Munson, dungeon master and local metalhead. Also the guy you’ve been harboring the biggest crush on since your junior year.
He looks even prettier with the afternoon sun shining through the windows of the cafeteria, highlighting the warm chestnut hue of his fluffy curls. His lips are poised in an annoyed pout, fingers drumming on the table in rapid succession while he listens to Dustin’s nervous ramblings.
“He’s just so— outgoing and doesn’t give two shits what these dipshits around here think of him.”
Your lips can’t help but quirk up into a small smile when you witness him tossing a pretzel at Mike’s head.
“You are not boring,” Nancy sighs, her curls bouncing when she shakes her head. “But you’re not gonna know if something could work out between you if you don’t at least try.”
Your snort has her rolling her eyes, but yours are still transfixed on the boy in question. So much so that you haven’t noticed the way your glasses continue to slip down the bridge of your nose.
“I doubt he even knows my name, Nance.”
When your eyes suddenly catch his chocolatey brown ones, you feel mortified. You’ve been very careful about your…admiring during lunch or in between classes. But Nancy had momentarily distracted you, and now you’d been caught red handed.
Unbeknownst to you, this isn’t the first time he’s noticed your wandering gaze. Soft eyes that are filled with the utmost longing and kindness. Someone with a reputation such as Eddie Munson doesn’t have looks like that thrown his way very often.
So it’s no surprise he’s caught on.
But you don’t seem to notice the way he always glances back once you look away, dark eyes seeking out your figure in the halls. The longing of his own for you to finally meet his gaze. But your nose is either stuck in a book or those pretty eyes are trained on your feet.
It was maddening.
You quickly break his curious stare and jump to your feet, missing the way he shoots up from his own chair. You sling your backpack over your shoulder and leave your tray abandoned.
“I gotta go…I’ll see you later, Nance,” you say before she even has time to protest, keeping your head down as you make your way toward the exit.
Mentally still kicking yourself for being caught gawking at him like some bumbling idiot. But your heart leaps into your throat when you hear the slapping of sneakers on the linoleum behind you.
Before you can even process what’s happening you all but collide into a denim clad chest, gasping softly when his arms slip around your waist to catch you before you almost stumble backwards onto your ass.
“Whoa, easy there,” he chuckles, those same pouty lips quirking up into a lopsided grin. “Didn’t mean to scare ya…”
When he releases you, your whole body deflates— already missing the warmth of his palms. Even if it was only for a fleeting moment.
“Uh…sorry, did you need something?” you ask, unable to hide the confusion in your tone.
He purses his lips, twisting his rings on his fingers in almost a nervous manner.
Why would he be nervous?
“I just had a question is all…” he mumbles, “and honestly, I’ve been meaning to ask you this for a while now.”
And your heart nearly stops when he carefully pushes your glasses back up the bridge of your nose.
“You free tonight?”

Kitty and Marie || Worst!Logan x Single Mom!Reader
summary: Logan finds a little girl who's lost in the store and apparently she's chosen him to help her
warnings: fem!reader, she/her pronouns are used and the reader is referred as mom
a/n: Single mom reader x logan is here rahhhhhhh. The idea was too cute not to expand on soooo here's the fic!! I want to do more I have some ideas in mind lol. Obvi its worst Logan bc I love him and I think Logan would be so funny with kids. Like bro is not a kid person but they always seem to be obsessed with him.
Tumblr media
This...really isn't what Logan pictured what his life would be like if you had asked him a month ago. You know, pushing a shopping cart around a grocery store trying to find the specific flavor of poptarts Wade wrote in fucking crayon on his grocery list.
Yeah, a far cry from hopping from bar to bar and getting into scrap fights. Logan picks up a box and stares at it.
"Hot Fudge Sundae?" Logan scrunches his nose in disgust. He can already smell the artificial through the box. He tosses it into the cart shakes his head.
Suddenly he feels a harsh tug on his pants.
"The hell?" He looks down and to his surprise sees a little girl holding onto his pants for dear life. Tears streaming down her face. Logan looks around for a parent, anyone who might be missing their kid.
"Um. Can I help you?" He asks awkwardly, unsure of what to do right now.
"I can't find my mommy." She cries, the tears coming faster as she clings onto Logan's leg.
"Woah there," He tries to gently push her off of him but she won't budge.
"Okay don't cry, uhh..." He looks around for a worker but there's no one in sight.
"Shit." He says before quickly covering his mouth, he looks down at the little girl who was staring at him with big teary eyes.
"You didn't hear anything okay kid? Now let's go find your mom." She reaches up with her arms making grabby hands at Logan.
"I don't think that's a good idea." He tells her, trying to walk towards the front of the store to customer service.
She won't budge. Logan doesn't want to hurt the girl knowing his own strength so he just sighs and gives in to her demands. He picks her up with ease. Her tears stopping the moment she's in his arms. He carries her in one hand and drags his cart with the other.
"You're real bossy you know that?" He says with the shake of his head. She rests her head against his chest, her tears soaking through his shirt but Logan doesn't mind.
"What does your mom look like kid?" Logan asks but she doesn't answer, her fist curling into his shirt.
"A name?" Still silence.
"Come on, you gotta give me something." He begs but she won't budge. As they reach the front of the store Logan pushes another guy aside, ignoring his cry of protest.
"I got a lost kid asshole, beat it." He growls before turning to the worker.
"She can't find her mom." The worker nods and tells him to wait. Logan sees the little girl staring at the candy on the shelves under the desk.
"Attention please, we have a lost girl at the front of the store. Please come get your child thank you." The worker announces over the intercom.
"It's okay sweetie your mom will be here soon." The worker, Helen as Logan reads on her name tag, says. She smiles at the little girl and walks around the desk to try and take her from Logan.
"Thank you sir, I can watch her until her mom comes."
"Thanks." Logan grabs the girl and tries to hand her off to Helen. To his shock she bursts into tears again, screaming the moment Logan lets go of her.
"It's okay sweetie, don't cry." Helen tries to soothe her but she's inconsolable. People start to stare as she sobs loudly.
"Dammit." Logan just sighs and takes her back from Helen. Like magic her sobs turn to a quiet cry.
"I'll watch her." He tells the worker.
"Bossy." He grumbles. She cries despite being in his arms once again.
He tries to ignore it, knowing that she won't be his problem in only a few minutes but he can sense everything. From the shaky breathes, the sniffles, the quivering lip. It's killing him. He looks around for something to try and make her smile.
What the hell do kids even like these days? He would just play with sticks as a kid. He sees a few stuffed animals sitting on the shelf and he grabs one of them. He shoves it into her arms and prays it works.
"Kitty." She sniffs, wiping her eyes she holds onto the plushie which happened to be a cat one.
"Thank god." Logan mumbles. He looks back to Helen and sighs.
"Can you put the stupid cat toy on my bill?" She just smiles and nods.
"Marie!" Logan perks up at the sound of a frantic voice.
He turns around to see you looking around, panic written all over your face. The first thought in his head is how damn gorgeous you are. Then he scolds himself for even thinking that. Not the time or place Logan.
"Mommy!" The little girl, Marie apparently, squeals. Squirming in Logan's arms as she sees you.
"There you go kid, see I told you we'd find her." He sets her down and she runs to you.
You've never felt more relieved in your life than to see her. It was one second. You swear just one second. You let go of her hand to reach something on the top shelf and when you turn back she's gone. You ran through the store but you just couldn't find her. It was too damn big.
"Oh baby, never scare me like that again." You hug her tightly. Not wanting to let go ever again.
"I'm sorry mommy." She cries, holding onto you tightly.
"It's okay baby, you're not in trouble. Just make sure you don't run off again okay?" You pick her up in your arms and it feels like you can finally breathe.
"Thank you so much." You gush to the man in front of you. He looks vaguely familiar, though you would think if you saw someone like him you'd remember it more. Suddenly it clicks.
"Oh, you live with Wade." Logan tilts his head, trying to figure out how you know that.
"I live in the same building. I'm a floor below. I can hear...things." You don't know how to explain exactly the sounds that come from Wade's apartment but its never loud enough to be annoying. You had seen this man in passing. The elevator or leaving the building. That's really it. Marie must have seen him too.
"Logan." He shoves his hands in his pockets, realizing that you must be the family down below.
He could always hear a kid in the apartment below him. Especially during her tantrums. Now that he thinks about it your voice does sound slightly familiar.
"Kitty!" She says happily.
"I know baby, that's a kitty cat." You say, thinking she's talking about the plush in her hands. But she shakes her head pointing at Logan.
"Kitty!" She giggles.
"Sweetie he's not...That's Logan." You look back at Logan with an embarrassed look on your face.
"We just watched Monsters Inc the other day. I think you remind her of Sully. Plus..." You trail off, eyes drifting to his hair. They're short but the little tuffs of hair do strike a resemblance to cat ears.
"Kitty huh? That's a new one." He smiles. Reaching up and petting the plush cat making Marie laugh.
"Thank you again Logan. I owe you."
"It was nothing, she's a cute kid. Even cuter mom." He flirts boldly making your eyes widen. You try to hide your smile, it's been a while since someone's made you so flustered so easily. Especially someone who looks like Logan.
"Please, let me at least invite you to dinner." He glances down at your hand noticing the lack of a ring.
Once again, not the time Logan he scolds himself. The last thing you need in your life is a man like Logan. But dinner sounds nice. It's just dinner, nothing more.
"Pleaseeeeeee." Marie adds, her little lips forming the perfect pout. Now that Logan can't say no to.
"Alright, I'll come for dinner as long as you quit making that face." Marie scrunches up her nose and sticks her tongue out at Logan. It makes you smile seeing her so happy. She's usually shy around strangers but she must have recognized Logan from the apartment building.
"Alright miss, we have to get home. Say goodbye to Logan."
"Bye Kitty!" She waves.
"Bye Logan, see for dinner. Stop by any time." You give him a small wave, turning before he can see the stupidly happy look on your face. You remind yourself it's just dinner.
But maybe, just maybe it could be something more.
