Hello, LGB drop the T folks
Ok listen up
If you think the T should be dropped from the LGBTQ acronym, I’d like you to go and do a quick little bit of digging on the history of Pride, the movement you are gatekeeping. Then come back and tell me that trans people, a large majority of the founders of this community, don’t belong here. Just you fucking try. Stop erasing queer history in order to fit it into your exclusive idea of what Pride and queerness is. You are playing right into the hands of those who would seek to ruin us all.

I don't know who wrote the post about how all of Buck's past relationships have taught Buck the thing he needs to make his endgame relationship work, and like, they are very consistent with this thing where the next relationship somehow fixes something from the one before and while messing up something from the one after, and we all know Buck's endgame is Eddie. Buck has been being handed pieces of the puzzle since Abby. The one missing was his bisexuality. That's not missing anymore. Wherever goes down now, is about Buck getting comfortable in his own skin so he can finally be with someone who loves all of him. It's about Buck finally loving himself, so that he can actually understand what he wants from a relationship. So that he can reach the thing he actually wants, the family he has with Eddie.

i want the puppet history finale to start as normal, with steven lim as ryan’s replacement because “ryan’s feeling a little under the weather today” and carrying on as normal, with muffled yells being heard randomly that the professor has to go “deal with”

I remember thinking it was odd that Silver and Sebek ended up doing most of the work saving the egg in the dream world when, in reality, it would have been Lilia and Baul making the treacherous journey on their own.
But then I also remembered that Lilia injured himself saving Silver's life at the fortress. He never would've done something like that in the real past. Him rendering himself weak to protect Silver directly led to Silver carrying him and the egg to Maleficia's castle.

To take a more serious tone toward the topic, I think history is best when we approach it without trying to make value judgements. The worst takes are the ones that try to sort people into "good" and "bad" categories, as if there's a certain calculus to determine if a person deserves to be remembered as a hero or a villain. The point shouldn't be to judge, but to understand.
All people have a mix of both good and bad within them. We should figure out who they are as people, what the world around them was like, how they were shaped by experiences and society, and why they made the choices that they did. There are some undeniably black-hearted villains, but most people are a mixture of good actions and bad actions, of pure motives and mistakes, of brilliant insight and just plain dumb blindness that comes from not knowing how history would turn out. Trying to categorize gets in the way of understanding, and often dehumanizes them.
These aren't just figures or statues, they're people--living, breathing human beings who had hopes and dreams and flaws and fears. We can honor their accomplishments while recognizing their mistakes. We should imitate their virtues and avoid their flaws. When we study, we want to classify things in neat boxes, but people are too messy for that. You can like a person and hate their views; you can appreciate someone's accomplishments while hating their personality. You can get so much further with understanding the nuances of history if you can just leave behind the tendency to judge and just get to know these people as they actually were.

The latest chapter actually provided a lot of Yuri backstory and context through a mix of Yuri's own words and information provided by Chloe.
This is a bit image-heavy so I've chucked it under a read more. Spoilers for chapter 89 below.
Tumblr media
Firstly, Yuri says that he skipped grades in order to get where he was. To some extent, we could have inferred this already given his relatively young age for being part of the SSS, but it's nice to have official confirmation.
Tumblr media
Chloe is pretty familiar with Yuri, and we find out here that they actually went to college together, where she was his upperclassman. She didn't skip any grades herself and in the SSS she's actually ranked below him, but their history still stands, for all that Yuri would rather hide behind rank. Her knowledge of him back then means she's one of the few people in the position to call him out rather than subjecting him to the praise/concern he seems to get from his superiors and immediate colleagues respectively.
Tumblr media
And, as we find out here, he's always hidden behind that sense of superiority. As someone who skipped grades, he didn't really have any peers and seemed to have pissed off everyone in his surroundings by playing the genius and claiming to only care about his sister.
Tumblr media
Admittedly, his sister *is* his motivation and why he studied so hard in the first place, so he could pay her back for her time protecting him, but the whole description of Yuri "not minding being hated" reads more as him using indifference for a shield. So long as he could say he was doing it all for Yor, it didn't matter if he had no friends. It likely fed into itself and added to the isolation that would have already faced him as someone years younger than everyone in his surroundings.
(I do like the slight mirror to Twilight this raises though. The idea that achievements may not see the light of day, but that's not the point or reason for him to do them. The idea of being in a position where you couldn't do anything so all you could do was make yourself stronger and refuse to be that weak again.)
And we can see even to this day that he's not much of a socialiser. Before Chloe, there hasn't really been anyone who gets close to the description of "friend", only really "concerned colleague" or "pleased superior". Yuri's still lacking true peers.
Tumblr media
And here's the kicker. The key trait linking Yuri, Nightfall, and Twilight together. They all think that if they just get stronger and try harder they can achieve their goals. Their respective obsessions prevent them from taking a step back and approaching from a different angle, because they're so tied up in the idea that if they just push through, it'll fall into place.
Obviously, I don't know Nightfall's backstory to compare here, but it's easy to see how this tunnel vision developed for both Yuri and Twilight. The brute force pushing through working every time is a somewhat childish notion so it makes sense that it has its roots in their childhoods.

You made a post stating that pierced ears weren’t accepted in America from the 20s to 60s, but I was under the impression that many women, esp in the 40s and 50s, often wore classic Pearl or diamond stud earrings. Have I been deceived by Hollywood again?? :c
Clip-ons and screw-backs, my dear Anon!
Tumblr media
(Screw-back earrings, c. 1950s)
Piercing your ears was frowned upon, but wearing earrings remained wildly popular. I don't understand the logic here, since it looks functionally identical to wearing pierced earrings in practice, but apparently that was A-okay.
Earring clamped onto your ear? Fine! That exact same earring going through your ear? DIRTY AND/OR FOREIGN HARLOT.
Make it make sense.
(Pierced earrings DID still exist, since some women- for cultural or personal reasons -bucked the zeitgeist. But they were by far the less common of the two options.)
(Also, clips and screw-backs hurt in my experience. Like. You have your ear pinched in a vise for as long as you're wearing them, basically. My mom, born 1953, remembers Grandma taking her clip earrings off the second she got home from a party, always. And yet I saw clips advertised as "torture-free" earrings in a 1930s ad. Yes, skip the torture of like 30 seconds with a needle for the comfort and ease of clamping something heavy onto your ear with sheer pressure, all day long.)
(The whole "pierced ears bad" fad makes about the least sense to me of any fashion-related historical Hot Take.)

I do have complicated feelings about what's happening to the guy right now, but I do also find it a little bit funny that I started a parasocial nemesis-ship with james so/merton (it's not a good look for me, you should only lend space in your head for youtubers you do actually like) because his video essays had so many factual errors and it always seemed like he had no idea of what he was talking about... and thanks to hbomb's video, it turns out it appeared that way because he really didn't know what he was talking about. They were not his words.

Wow, I have a fic description and a fic title before I've even established a proper fic plot
(this is probably because I'm very excited about this fic and it's potential...)
Edit:
Here are my tags because I started explaining the plot and want it actually in the post rather than just the tags lol:
Tumblr media
#Aziraphale gets removed from the book of life is like...the main plot#and - through various means - it is Crowley remembering him and bringing him back#(with guest star appearances from Adam and the Them on a school trip to yo London; Warlock#running away from his parents for the third time; Muriel who is cheerily *not* realising that they used to be a very powerful angel before#a mind wipe; Maggie and Nina dancing around the fact that Nina might very well be ready for that next step; Beelzebub and Gabriel both#visiting Crowley separately for couple's counselling (although *why* he cannot fathom; and the second coming of Christ#although she is not at all what heaven was planning - in fact#heaven didn't know she existed yet)#but it is also Crowley being miserable and lonely and kind of not knowing why#but being reminded of something until things start to fall into place#and then history is a bit weird until they defeat Metatron (fuck 'im) and put Aziraphale's name back#(this fic *really* makes me wish I could draw because a big part of it is that Eve#- the second coming of Christ - keeps getting visions of the past as it was when Aziraphale still existed#since she's technically God and i think God is probably the only one to whom edits to the book of life don't affect#and Crowley finds it#and I think it would be so cool to have like pages of notebook and sketches in between the fic writing)#GO2#Good Omens Season 2#Good Omens#Ineffable Husbands#because I wrote an essay in the tags of my own post instead of in the main body (like a fool)#Fae Rambles Into The Void#How To Make A Nightingale Sing#<- the current working title

whenever i see people spreading hate in fandoms or starting internet discourse about media i think of this. the internet is quite big. you can go somewhere else. you’ll probably feel better and so will the people you’re starting fights with. i truly say this with so much kindness and love: none of this matters as much as we feel like it does, and stepping away from drama feels amazing, because you’re hurting other people, and you’re hurting yourself, and no one is having a good time. not everything is made for you, and that’s ok. it’s not your fault and it’s not the creator’s fault. there are so many things that are made for you, though, and you will find them if you step away from toxic social media environments and interactions.
