May 4, 2025 Students for Palestine in The Hague and Leiden (the Netherlands) insta uploads this helpful guide for student protestors:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’d like to zoom in on one chant in particular:
Tumblr media
Here we see that “min almaya limaya falasteen arabiye” (lit. “from the water to the water, Palestine [is/will be] Arab”) is translated to “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”
This post has been viewed (and liked) by the major student protest orgs in the Netherlands:
Tumblr media
The key take away here is that these groups are fully aware that “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” is an antisemitic dog whistle (they are literally being informed that when they say “free” in English, that’s equivalent to saying “Arab” in Arabic).
Dog whistles function because they give the bigoted people using them plausible deniability for their bigotry, but here’s the whole student pro-Palestine movement in the Netherlands admitting the truth.

rb this again because thank you so much for articulating what I was too tired at the time to word eloquently. more punks in academia pls bc its not going to get any less elitist or conservative if we don't go. student revolutionaries are often the backbone of grassroots movements and college is a shortcut to grow numbers
I am well aware that this is a stupid question, but can you go to college and also be punk? Idk I just feel like my desire to get a higher education is at odds with the fact that colleges for so long have discriminated against basically every minority you can think of in some way, and also most are so expensive that people spend years paying off their loans, which I think is very predatory. There's also the fact that I get free tuition because my mom works at the college I'm currently attending. I'm grateful, but I also feel as if I'm playing into nepotism for reaping the rewards that I did not earn. I might be oversharing but I have a lot on my mind and would love it if you/other punks who read this can help me out.
I'm sure there will be some people out there that disagree, but I have never heard "getting a degree is inherently anti punk". Yes, the institutions themselves can be discriminatory, but we also need as many well educated people as possible on our side and working with us. Having a degree puts you in a position of privilege yes, but it doesn't directly oppress other people just by you having it. Yes the system is fucked, but you not going to college doesn't overturn the system. If anything, its much better you go and do what good you can while you're there to improve that system from the inside, and then do more good with the degree. Yes, it is more privilege to get free tuition, but you also aren't stealing that from someone else. Knowledge is power, and education is a core pillar of activism.
If anyone else has any more to say (like I likely will later) please do share

Members of a private WhatsApp group, including billionaires like the CEO of Dell and the former CEO of Starbucks, allegedly used the chat to discuss ways to pressure New York City Mayor Eric Adams to use police to crack down on Gaza solidarity protests at the city’s universities, according to The Washington Post. AJ+ has not seen the chat messages referenced in The Washington Post’s report directly. ⁣
NYPD officers raided encampments at schools like Columbia University and the City College of New York, arresting close to 200 protesters in just one day. The police raid at Columbia in late April was the first on-campus mass arrest in 50 years, with police using riot gear and military-grade weapons against mostly peaceful protesters. ⁣
While Gaza solidarity encampments have been frequently targeted with violence by police and pro-Israel agitators – and over 2,200 people have been arrested – a study found that out of over 550 Gaza protests at U.S. universities, 97% have been peaceful. ⁣
