resubmitting my design project at the last minute bc I realized that while I cropped this one Very suggestive image in the actual assignment I sure forgot to crop it in the image citation list and knowing my prof he will scroll through the whole thing on the projector in class and not that my classmates aren't all technically adults but like.. should probably crop it

It was 4 years ago today that we lost our studiomate Jesse Hamm. @hammpix. Jesse was an artist, an educator, and an essayist. He was smart, serious, and incredibly funny. We miss him every day. Go read this great post he wrote about Alex Toth, cartooning, and realism. sirspamdalot.livejournal.com/89372.html

i was getting tattooed today and my artist and his studiomate were discussing the fallout show and i was like i have not seen it but i know the hot goop guy and they were like oh yeah him. no nose guy. and i was like yeah. and my artist goes so is voldemort hot too? and the studiomate says he DOES lack a nose and i was like no. no it’s not the nose thing it’s—but i was actively being poked continuously with a needle in my side and couldn’t focus and finally went ok you need to stop that for a minute so i can explain my passions
#galling that for a minute today 2 relative strangers thought i thought voldemort was hot#can you IMAGINE#more information about penguins than i care to have

Hey is there a date or emailing list for the butter bells (if youre still making those?). No idea if itll be in my price range but I would love to gift one to my sister if it is. Good luck on your hobbit camping adventure!
Not yet, but I'll post about them plenty when there is! We're still in very early days on that. I'll probably give several week's notice when they're for sale, and continue to update as they progress.
#the test one isn't even through the kiln yet! i may collaborate with my studiomate who is going to hobbit camp with me#she throws and we could potentially make more of these as a team

Do you work out of a studio at home or do you have a separate building as your studio?? I'm sorry if this is invasive, your art is just gorgeous and I am trying to gauge if I can do the same thing!
No worries! Thank you :3
I personally am in a renting situation, though a very nice one. I share my space with a studiomate who has been for the most part away at grad school! The space is in a big house, we keep it active since the original potter who worked in it for many years has passed away and his widow rents it out to grads from the school I attended. I have an area that is probably 12 x 8 feet to work in, with several tables, a wedging table, large shelves, with a nice sink and a large kiln space in our basement where we have a small test kiln and a medium barrel electric kiln I fire everything else in! We also have a photo booth space for photography in the basement.
I am currently in the process of househunting etc. and fully plan for the next place I live to have an in-home studio though! I like the space I rent but I have limited hours + I hesitate to make more sensitive work when other people are looking at me working haha. I am really looking forward to having my own place.
Please let me know if you have further questions or want specifics, I can totally give you a rundown on what I would consider 'essential' things to have in a sculpture studio space so that it would run efficiently for you :) (I can also take a video or photos of my workspace if yall would like!)

(IvanTill) Sure That You're The Northern Star- 1

She was ethereal.
Till had felt it from the first time he’d seen her. In an overcrowded local show. The tiny stage was lined with lights the band had clearly brought themself, all aimed up and casting the band’s faces with strange shadows which would have been unflattering to anyone else. But each member held this otherworldly presence that transformed a shitty performance venue into a spiritual experience.
There was this…shift, Till’s whole world tilting off kilter. The thrum of the crowd dulled, the smell of alcohol faded, and it was just Till and this band.
Her at the center. Her long pink hair stuck to her sweat soaked face, crossing and creating swirls that echoed the emotion she brought to her performance. Her round rimmed glasses kept slipping down her nose and she kept pushing them back up with her shoulder creating a smudge on one side of the lenses. Her soft smile juxtaposed the dark content of the music but managed to fit it all the same.
Till had never been more thankful that he brought his sketchbook everywhere with him. It had been a suggestion from an overly pretentious professor in his first year of university but it had stuck. Till pulled it out and propped it up on his knee as his foot balanced precariously on the support of the bar stool he was perched atop of.
His pencil scratched across the page furiously. A fire he hadn’t felt since he first started art welled up inside of him, scorching the page with passion. Then she was there, a version of her copied onto a page, a version that would always be his. Her hair whipping around wildly, her eyes alight with affection, her glasses smudged and her hands gripping the microphone like an extension of herself.
Till looked up at the stage again, checking her facial proportions to ensure perfection, and her eyes caught his. She grinned and glanced down at his sketchbook. The venu was small enough, and the lights bright enough that there was no hiding the fact that he had been drawing her. His entire face flushed and he lifted his pencil in mock concentration to look at the band member standing slightly behind her.
The entire band was stunning, even if she shone the brightest, so Till set about filling the empty space to the side of her on his page with another member. A tall man playing keyboard and providing occasional backing vocals.
His hair was raven black and slicked back though by this point of the night several strands had fallen forward, sticking to his skin. His eyes were narrowed, looking out at the crowd through his thick lashes. There was this self assured smirk on his face that perfectly matched the mirth flickering in his eyes.
Those dark eyes met Tills as he made a show of sketching the keyboardist. The other man’s lips parted and his smile grew wider, showing a single sharp tooth sticking out past the others. He winked at Till and the blush that hadn’t calmed from being caught once only deepend.
Mortified, Till kept his head down and finished his preliminary sketch before packing up and half sprinting out of the venue. Later the friends he had been waiting for would call him to ask where he was, but had been too busy in the school's studio to pick up his phone.
When the first of his studiomates arrived in the morning, they would find Till. He was sleeping propped up next to the radiator, paint staining his clothes, face and hands. They would also find four new works forming a crescent around him, paint still drying.
They wouldn’t find the sketchbook, now also stained. It rested next to his hand, face down. It was a sketch that would make its debut on Till’s instagram a month before his final gallery. A gallery which would feature the four paintings the sketch, the band, had inspired.

i crave the immediate satisfaction of sharing my work over social media and getting (hopefully positive) feedback and many eyes on it, but i know that craving is like totally hollow in action. like posting has never felt as good as i hoped. but when i talk about my work with the people in my life, when people read my writing because i sent it to them, when one of my studiomates gives a really genuine compliment on something in my studio. that fulfills that desire to be seen and understood and appreciated so much more than anything else ever has ESPECIALLY posting!
#local youth discovers what oldheads have been saying about the disconnection social media fosters#😱🤯🤯🤯 knowing and loving and caring about things irl be so satisfying!?!?!?! i only spent so much time on the internet as a child bc i was#locked up in the house w no other way to satisfy my curiousity and desire for connection!?!? 😳🤯🤯🤯#murmurs in the august breeze

A great installation of DC artists at the Smithsonian American Art Museum includes [from right] the well-known, like Morris Louis and Sam Gilliam; to the under-appreciated, a haunting nebula-like work by Kenneth Young; to the positively rare-slash-singluar, the only painting by Mary Pinchot Meyer in a public collection. Behind me was a giant Alma Thomas and a sculpture by Meyer's best friend and studiomate Anne Truitt. Meyer was just starting to get attention for her unique approach to color field abstraction at her untimely death in 1964.
