Importance of Sunscreen Selection

Sun, Skin, Safety: What You Need to Know About UV Protection
Let’s get real for a moment…
No, sunbeds are not safe. They emit the same harmful UV rays as the sun, increasing your risk of long-term skin damage and cancer.
Yes, sunscreen is necessary even on cloudy days. UVA rays can pass through clouds and glass.
Yes, your skin needs daily protection – no matter the weather, no excuses.
Why Is Sun Protection So Critical?
Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with malignant melanoma being the deadliest form. It’s particularly alarming that it’s also one of the most common cancers among young adults (ages 15-34). Roughly 86% of skin cancers are caused by UV radiation damage – a sobering reminder of how vital sun protection is.
Understanding UV Rays
The sun emits three types of ultraviolet rays, each with its own effects:
UVA – The Ageing Ray
Think A for Ageing and Allergies. UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin, accelerating premature aging and contributing to allergic skin conditions. They can even pass through windows and clouds, so daily protection is a must.
UVB – The Burning Ray
B for Burning. UVB rays are stronger in direct sunlight and cause tanning and sunburn. The skin tans as a defense mechanism when it senses UVB-related damage. These rays are most intense between 11 AM and 3 PM.
UVC – Currently Blocked by the Ozone
UVC rays are highly dangerous but fortunately, they’re blocked by the ozone layer — for now.
How to Protect Your Skin
Choose a broad-spectrum SPF that shields you from both UVA and UVB rays. Look for a sunscreen with a visible UVA logo inside a circle, indicating approved UVA protection.
Your best bet? A formula with both physical and chemical protection:
Physical filters like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide reflect UV rays off your skin.
Chemical filters like Tinosorb and Octocrylene absorb UV rays and convert them into harmless energy.
What About Blue Light and Visible Light?
The sun also emits visible light (HEV), including blue light and infrared rays. While these rays aren’t directly linked to skin cancer, they generate free radicals that damage the skin over time, accelerating aging and inflammation.
To combat this, use a powerful antioxidant serum under your sunscreen. Ingredients like Vitamin C help neutralize free radicals and reduce oxidative stress.
Product Tip to Strengthen Protection
Try:
Medical Loft 15% Energizing Booster – A potent Vitamin C serum that helps energize the skin while providing excellent antioxidant protection. Ideal for layering under your sunscreen.
Daily Sun Safety Habits
Apply sunscreen every day, regardless of the weather or whether you’re indoors.
Choose SPF with broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection.
Layer with a good antioxidant serum for visible light defense.
Reapply sunscreen every two hours when exposed to the sun.
Use protective accessories like hats and sunglasses, especially during peak hours (11 AM – 3 PM).
Remove sunscreen thoroughly at the end of the day.
Sun damage affects all skin tones – no one is exempt.
Check the UV index regularly. When it reaches 3 or higher, protection is essential.
Watch Your Skin Closely
Regularly inspect your skin using the ABCDE rule to spot early signs of melanoma:
A – Asymmetry
B – Border irregularity
C – Colour variations
D – Diameter greater than 6mm
E – Evolving shape, size, or color
See a doctor if you notice anything unusual.
Conclusion
Protecting your skin from the sun is not just a beauty ritual — it’s a health essential. With the right products and habits, you can significantly reduce your risk of sun-related skin issues. Consistent use of broad-spectrum SPF, antioxidants, and protective gear goes a long way in keeping your skin healthy and radiant.

protecting your skin with clothing and wearing sunscreen! In case your wondering, why sunscreen?
1. UV rays can still be harmful and damage our skin, the ozone layer is thinner in the winter time and snow can reflect up to 80% of UV rays! isnt that insane!
Skin damage: Wearing sunscreen all year round can help prevent skin damage, premature aging, and skin cancer!
Dry skin: Winter conditions like low moisture and harsh winds can dry out your skin! Making it more prone to cracks, wrinkles, & infections! Sunscreen will help maintain your skins moisture levels!
Heres some tips for wearing sun screen in the winter! -Apply sunscreen to all exposed skin! including your ears & lips.
Reapply sunscreen every two hours or more often if you're sweating! or if you're doing outside activities look for water and sweat- resistant sunscreen! -if you're going to be at a higher altitude, like a ski resort, look for SPF 50 or higher!
Common winter skin issues: Eczema, Psoriasis, Rosecea, Keratoisis (Chicken Skin), & Raynaud's disease Acne

PSA reminder that if you are using spray on suncreen, you still NEED to rub it in to make sure you got full coverage of any exposed areas of your skin!
You also need to reapply sunscreen every few hours, especially if you've been swimming or sweating a lot!
Use SPF 30 at bare minimum, but SPF 50 is a much better bet. It's also a good idea to check into the brand you're buying to make sure it's not one of the ones that have been caught lying about their SPF rating.

Reapplying Sunscreen Without Ruining Your Makeup
Although we all know how essential it is to protect our skin from the sun, let's be honest: trying to reapply sunscreen during the day can really be such a pain, especially when you've just perfected that makeup look. Who needs or wants to upset that flawless look with the greasy, sticky layer from the sunscreen, or worse, mess up your makeup all together?.
Being an influencer and always on the go, I have spent years perfecting my beauty routine and finding my ways to protect my skin without changing my look. And whether I am filming, attending an event, or just heading about my daily routine, I learned a few tricks to keep my skin safe with my makeup held intact.
Here's how you can reapply sunscreen without messing up your makeup, as explained in a step-by-step guide that is as easy as it is effective.
The Struggles of Sunscreen & Makeup
Let's just talk about the challenges we face. Everybody can recall a situation: you're out with your friends, or you're doing some photo shoot, and you can catch a glimpse of how the sun's rays have been constantly hitting your skin for hours. You know you have to reapply sunscreen, but the thought alone of doing so without messing up your makeup is something you do not want to do.
Perhaps, you tried applying sunscreen on top of makeup only to end up with a greasy shiny face that completely ruins the entire look. Or maybe you used a spray sunscreen and became streaky or uneven right?
Well, I have come to show you that it need not be this way at all. With the right products and a few clever techniques, you can reapply sunscreen without sacrificing your makeupand do so without breaking out in a sweat.
Step 1: Start with the Right Sunscreen
The right sunscreen is the key to perfect reapplication, while most traditional lotions and sprays just make a mess of your makeup, so to speak, leaving residue as oily or sticky. So, what's to be done? Powder sunscreen is definitely a game-changer.
One of my top favorite sunscreens is SolBrush Powder Sunscreen SPF 50. It's a great product because it gives me all the sun protection without disturbing my makeup. Its super-lightweight powder formula perfectly mixes with my skin tone; there is no greasy finish or white cast, and it comes with a convenient brush applicator for easy use on the go.
I've used it on countless shoots and outdoor events and even to the grocery store just running errands, and it never fails. It's a great pick-me-up to finish up my skincare routine and make sure I'm protected without ruining my makeup.
Step 2: Preparing Skin for Sunscreen Touch-Ups
Before reapplied sunscreen, it's nice to get your makeup ready for a new layer of SPF. You don't want to mess up your makeup or have it look cakey. Here's how to do it:
Use blotting paper: On the oily types, there's blotting paper that absorbs excess oil. Just gently press this on your T-zone-that is, that area where the eyebrows, nose, and mouth converge-your forehead and nose-and voilà-your skin will look fresh once again without disturbing your makeup.
Dust with a light dusting of translucent powder. If you worry that your makeup will shift when you reapply sunscreen, a light dusting of translucent powder will help everything stay in its place. I actually use a soft, fluffy brush to apply only the smallest amount of powder just enough to ensure my base is ready for sunscreen, but doesn't have a mat finish.
Step 3: Apply Powder Sunscreen
It's now magic time. Take your SolBrush Powder Sunscreen SPF 50 or equivalent brush-on sunscreen and follow these steps:
Twist to Dispense Powder: Shake open the sunscreen, gently tap or twist the applicator to dispense powder, and hold the applicator about an inch or two from your face when applying so that you do not overapply.
Circular Motions for Brushing: Draw across your face in soft strokes in circular motions on most of the sun-exposed parts of your face, like cheek bones, forehead, and nose. Do not forget to blend so that you do not ruin your makeup.
Layer as Needed: Depending on how much sun exposure you've gotten, you can layer on a little more product. The beautiful thing about powder sunscreens is that they are buildable and lightweight, so you can put on as much as you like without it feeling heavy.
Step 4: Touch Up and Set
Now that you've reapplied your sunscreen, take a minute to do a quick touch-up:
Touch up any makeup that would have shifted: If the concealer or foundation has somehow moved a little bit, you may need to reapply it. Using a beauty sponge or your fingertips, tap gently back in place. That is very quick and can keep everything in place.
Use a setting spray to give your face that misty finish: sealing everything in and really locking everything in for that wonderful dewy finish. To me, a go-to is hydrating setting spray; it doesn't just set my makeup but ensures my skin remains bright like I am freshly waking up. That's the best time to take a selfie or attend such a meeting.
Real-Life Stories: Moms, Influencers, and Busy Women Adore This Technique
Being a mum and an influencer, I really get how much it matters to have that kind of sun protection which doesn't mess with the continuity of my day. There was this filming campaign some other week outside where I would be in the sun for a few hours. Reapplication was a must, but I did not want to mess the makeup that had taken me an hour to perfect.
That's when I headed in with my SolBrush Powder Sunscreen SPF 50. I packed it into my purse, reapplied between shots with no second thought, adding a little skip to that beat, never once sweating my sunscreen off or smearing my makeup at any point along the way. Easy and simple as that!
Last but not the least, I have chatted with many influencers and even busy moms, and they all rave about the convenience of brush-on sunscreens. It's just easy to be given the reassurance that one's skin is taken care of without adding more stress onto an already busy day. Whether you're filming, running errands, or having a sunny afternoon with your kids, it works for everyone.
Why You Need Powder Sunscreen in Your Bag
If you haven't tried powder sunscreen yet, you are really missing out. It's simply a no-mess way of reapplying your SPF. Here are the endless benefits: it's portable, quick, and easy to apply and provides reliable sun protection—SPF 50, anyone? It won't leave you feeling oily or sticky.
Be you are a busy mom, beauty enthusiast or an influencer, then brush-on sunscreen is the thing to make in your skincare kit. It is the solution to flawless sun protection which does not interfere with your makeup routine.
Final Thoughts: Protecting Your Skin Doesn't Have to Be Hard
We women do so much every day, and our skincare routine shouldn't add stress to the mix. And that's where the right tools come in: you can protect your skin from the sun without worrying about messing up your makeup. Trust me, once you try powder sunscreen, you're turning back would be impossible.
Here's to looking fabulous and staying safe in the sun—no matter where life takes you. ????
Stay protected, stay glowing!
